WARNING FOR LONG POST THAT WON'T GO UNDER A BREAK. FLICK IT UP OR SCROLL PAST IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ A MESSY FUCKING RANT ABOUT FANDOM BEHAVIOUR, ABUSE, TRANSPHOBIA, ANTI RADICAL FEMINISM AND MORE SHIT. THIS IS NOT COHERENT.
I have two hangster fanfics started but I don't feel like finishing them especially because I just keep writing and writing and making them longer and longer and like if I ever finish either of them I won't even leave the comments open if i post them and I probably would post but yeah the last piece of shit i wrote was met with nothing but insults and animosity so im like still very angry about that. like the least horrible of the THREE assholes who decided that insulting me was something they had the right to do instead of just saying 'your tags are wrong, fix them' tried to go on about oh you leave comments open so you're open to criticism uwu and girl criticism is basically tearing someone to shreds so if i don't want your damn critiques what makes you think that I want to be insulted? where did i say that i had a degradation kink? so yeah, i have a very bad impression of this fanbase. it seems very clique-y to me and it's funny because it's a minuscule fanbase no matter what this user tried to say I'm not stupid and making a single fanfic a series to crank up the number of fics isn't as sleek as yall think it is. like you can do it i'm not judging but don't tell me 'um akshully this is a super popular shipppp' like yeah within a fandom with maybe 1000 active users maybe lol and I'm just in a I want to fucking speak up about EVERYTHING mood and I'm tired of always being shut down, lectured, insulted, and treated like shit and expected to just be 'the bigger person' motherfucker no. i am 166cm tall that's 5'6'' or some shit I don't know american, that's not very big is my point so i won't be the bigger person and ignore and delete and blah blah. WRITING IS MY HOBBY AND WHEN YOU COME FOR IT, FOR THE THING THAT HAS KEPT ME MILDLY SANE SINCE I WAS FUCKING 7, WE HAVE A PROBLEM. no, i don't care that i write like shit. it's free. i do it for free because i like to do it. it's the only way i can express myself and even there i get shut down and mocked because im mediocre in everything i fucking do, thanks for the reminder, it's not like my abuser didn't remind me of that for well over 20 years lol /sarcasm/ if you don't like someone's shitty writing, you have the option to click the fuck back and not being a massive piece of entitled shit. i don't know what's wrong with this fanbase honestly i have gotten hate before but never this fast and never to this scale on a stupid fucking fanfic that was very fucking clear for anyone who had taken the time to read it before telling an abuse survivor what abuse is and absolutely getting it fucking wrong lol i am proficient in 7 languages, and my preferred writing style is simple because i understand the value of being understood for more than one reason.
why do people think it's acceptable to be cunts to strangers online? if you wouldn't say the shit you say to people online to people in real life, THEN DON'T FUCKING SAY IT. and yes, i would say all of this here in real life and that is why I am typing it down. i'm literally a chronically depressed dysphoric motherfucker with generalised anxiety, cptsd and semi-functional autism, you think i wouldn't lash the fuck out in real life? you're wrong. i'm actually much worse in real life. i'm the sweetest fucking pie if you respect me but if you treat me like shit expect to get the dressing down of your fucking life or punched in the nose because sometimes i become non-verbal when angry and that's bad because i am reactive to abuse. and online that translates to not shutting up, in real life it translates to violence. but the thing is that in real life people are aware of dos and don'ts. online people just become their fucking regina george wet dream of a school bully.
and i've had fucking enough of being treated like shit. i've had enough of people thinking that being a cunt is cool or edgy. i've had fucking enough of the yes queen slay culture that sees women displaying disgusting, abusive behaviour and applauds it as something good. because 'socking it to the men'. i hate radical feminists for this reason and it's funny that their fascist ideology is spreading like a disease and nobody seems to notice, especially because the pipeline from radical feminist to trans exclusionary radical feminist is an archway not a pipeline. before you know it, you'll see trans masculine people and trans men as 'traitors' and 'wanting male privilege' and 'still women deep down' and 'still has a vagina so she's a woman'. and i'm not pulling this out of my ass, i watched this happening in real time more than once. god i'm so fucking angry i'm just vomiting all the shit that's been pissing me off for months. and i'm talking about this because this shit is so prevalent and commonplace that i, who have been sure that I want to go through with fully transitioning, have been reconsidering because of the insidious hateful comments from terfs/radfems and casual sympathisers with the ideology of those people and the dysphoria i've been feeling has been making me want to wear an actual literal mask outside and carry a fucking fake sword in a scabbard so that nobody will approach me. i have isolation tendencies that are very strong and have been with me since i can remember and i can remember as far back as 4 years old. and then i have to see these fuckers try to find 'articles' to support their hatred and bigotry when they are the literal reason why we fucking kill ourselves and just put up with feeling miserable and don't transition. i don't want to be even more ostracised and treated like shit. i don't want to be even more treated like i'm holding an unpinned grenade just because i don't want to put up with people who insult me and make me feel bad and react to that and fight back. i don't have self-esteem, i fucking hate myself, i feel like ripping my body to shreds every damn day and then i have to work from home the shitty jobs i can do that barely pay for my meds and definitely don't pay for therapy because being around people and too much stimuli makes me shutdown like to the point where i can't speak. So you see the issue maybe idfk that I come online to unwind and write shit as a hobby and mind my damn business and take the time to say look I have these issues and people see that list as 'oh look an easy target for my being a cunt wet dreams because this one will react and I'll seem like a saint! UWU'
and why did this have to involve this ship from top gun? well, because i liked the ship, i wanted to write for it, because writing is my hobby, and what i got was abuse lol and then gaslit into thinking it wasn't abuse and that i had to accept being called names lol 'oh there are no victims uwu i will concede that insulting you was not very nice uwu' but i didn't get a single fucking apology i had to apologise because i was triggered since i couldn't actually do anything and im always ALWAYS on my own even if i cry for help, it never comes, no matter what's fucking happening. even friends just say oh well i didn't see that so oopsie daisy sorry you felt bad and nobody defended you as as been the norm your entire life' like i'm just fucking TIRED. i'm tired of never being good enough. im tired of my friends never having my back. i'm tired of only being told oh actually you weren't wrong when it's already over and i'm already feeling like shit mentally and can't cope with the ruminating feelings of being perpetually misunderstood, mediocre, and alone. 'oh having to stand up for yourself makes you stronger uwu' fuck you a million fucking times. no it doesn't. it makes you paranoid, it makes you isolate, it makes it hard for you to maintain friendships, it makes you a loner, it makes you depressed because you're not supposed to be alone because humans are social animals. and i guess that's the bottom line lol i feel utterly and completely fucking alone. the only person i regularly see and talk to is my brother who also has cptsd and is autistic like me lol obviously we grew up in the same shitty environment and these things tend to be hereditary so yeah i have to mask even with him because he's almost 11 years younger than me and is going through that early 20s phase of your life where you're just lost and don't know what you want and feel bad and as the older sibling i feel that it's my duty to try and pretend not to feel as bad as i do but it's getting harder and harder and im not putting this under a read more break. happy fucking mental health awareness day. enjoy your nothingburger posters and yellow pins of performativity.
rant over.

CW: Major personal rant about “The Guest”
I love Kang Gil Young to bits, and the more I read about people being annoyed by what was a clearly well-written, performed and directed female character, I really could not contain my ire. (Even more than a year after…)
We have here an FC who was essential to the plot of the story, pulled her weight throughout the show, had a wonderful arc and gorgeous throughout. Her characterisation was also in sync with what a serious crime detective always on the move, a loner and marginalized within her team (and seriously traumatized) should be? Should she be wearing skirts, always be polite and obedient to her superior? Be more feminized? Believe in Yoon Hwa Pyeong immediately when he told her a demon was possessing people and using them as vessels to murder people without skepticism and doubts? What? Honestly, I would like to know the alternatives to that.
I found all these criticisms ridiculous. Blame the writers, not the FC. And I don’t know about anyone, but as someone who have little belief in demons, I would not have believed what YHP asserted as well. At least without serious evidence for at least the first few times. And in terms of being annoying, I could say the same for YHP and CY as well. There were also one or two comments about how they found YHP too rash for their liking, but at least that was specific and true to his character. It is not often I just read, “Oh, he was so annoying!” without any qualifiers about a MC, if any.
I have no idea whether sexism and misogyny are involved, but throughout my years of watching KDrama (CDrama included), it is all too often a state where the FC will attract the most criticisms - whether justified or not - even when the MC(s) could equally be as bad or worse. And even if it might be a true case of writing (and that not common case of performances), I would still say the same for the MC in some cases, and yet they don’t often invite the same vitriol as the FC. It is getting to be more than a pet peeve. Unless it is a heavily FCs-centred show, this phenomenon will usually rear its head. I truly wonder at that. Or the focus on bromance and the criticisms of romance. As far as I know, unless a show is a mixed genre or romcom, romance is generally not a main theme, and family or the so-called bromance dominated.
Yet, people keep complaining about romances? Where? As a romance lover, it is actually annoying that unless a show is a romcom or romance-focused, romance is generally relegated to one of the least important aspect of any show. And even romcoms nowadays focus a lot on secondary relationships (not a complaint), which is nice as well. I love romance, but don’t need them to be the end all and be all of any show. On the contrary, it can get a bit tedious. Yet, people who love bromance will always comment on how the minor/token romances in any of the shows affected the quality of the shows. Or how happy they were with the lack of romance? Huh? Why the animosity towards romance. There are already so many shows which don’t really feature romance much, or any.
I am getting so annoyed with this that I am developing an unhealthy animus towards bromance. And I never had much love for it in the first place. I have no idea what shows most other people watch, but most of the shows I have watched have always been bromance heavy, and the FC just a token love interest. Frankly, that has always grated, and still do. For me, it is women-erasure, shoring up the existing patriarchy. People complain about how useless some FCs are, and yet, they were there mostly as a token, and yet the people who complain about the romance did not even want that token??? Sorry, I am actually sick of shows which only feature men or MCs-heavy (and yes, I have learned to avoid those, nowadays, unless it is a show worthy to spend time on) and their bromance. Because I will encounter the same issues I already do elsewhere, and manifold.
The Guest is not a show which would have space for any romance, and as an OCN production, not likely to do so as well. The ‘bromance’ in the show was actually generally fair to all the three characters, regardless of the genders, and each character was given enough to work with. How people want to interpret or ship (or not ship at all) is up to preferences, and regardless of my own personal feelings, everyone is free to do/ship as they chooses. The shipping is not the most chafing part, since it is a fact m/m is dominant in men-centered shows, and despite the fact that KGY is an excellently written and performed FC, TG is a male-centered show in many respects. But the shade against KGY as a character will never fail to grate and chafe.
Argh! I really need to learn to be better and stop going to the comment sections for favourite dramas to avoid the thorny comments. Too sensitive by far for those, sigh. All they do is increase my blood pressure. Nothing good ever comes of it. Sigh. A repeat of the same personal rant. Sorry. The hazard of getting on in age, and being fixated on a ‘bromance’-weighted show. It truly sucks.
* Additional note as of Feb 2024: The infuriating thing is this rant is still totally valid now as when I wrote it more than a year ago 😱😡
I just encountered NEW comments about how annoying and rude KGY was in the show! And how much some viewers dislike her! OMFG 🤬 People seem to conveniently forget that Choi Yoon could be as rude! And YHP is a weasel.
But I don’t love any of them any less because their behaviours are very understandable.
Can’t people just keep their negative comments to themselves and people with their interests? And it is always the negative comments about the FC(s) or actress(es). I would shut my trap when I encounter a similar number for the other two MCs. (And they were problematic in their own way).
(P.S. Cerebrally loving a show like Nirvana in Fire is so much better, as men-dominated and bromance-heavy as it is. For one, the female characters there are all excellent despite being a minority, and my favourites are all married with sons and no one to ship them with. There is nearly no character I want to ship anyone with. With all my favourites, I am extremely satisfied with their relatively happy fate. All the MCs most everybody is in love with did not move me one iota, even the characters I would have loved to bits normally. As m/m heavy as it is bound to be, I could happily ignore all of it. I am satisfied with the ending because it was expected and could not have been a fully happy one, having been set up the way it did since Ep 1. Basically, I suppose it is a great thing that I am just not invested at all in the characters. I just felt sad for one of the Princess, and then learning that she did move on and had a real marriage in the novel satisfied me, so even that was resolved nicely. It is wonderful to only be invested in how the story went, and whether justice would prevail. The trauma is always filtered through a film of silk, and as part of an era and regime when violence and death were always just a step away, I suppose the tragic consequences are always expected, and in that sense, part of the journey of watching a period-political intrigue piece. Shrugs).

Thank you so much for your reply about Irene! I suppose I've tried to make sense of the situation within the fiction of the story, but you're right, if you look from the perspective of bad writing it stops being so confusing. Writing morally corrupt and entitled women in some misguided attempt at empowering feminism is something I've definitely noticed and it is infuriating (I'm still seething over Molly slapping Sherlock, and the way everyone else treated him in that episode tbh). 1/3(sorry 😅)
2/3 There is a disturbing trend of people who are supposed to look out for Sherlock making him pay for his rudeness/carelessness with violence or insults. I hate it, because when Sherlock missteps he gets told off (sometimes he deserves it and sometimes he's right but everyone else is being too stupid to notice), especially by John, so as time goes on all the additional jabs at his character stop feeling like banter and more like open animosity.
3/3 Speaking of bad writing, I think it's ludicrous that Sherlock is capable of making the mistakes he does throughout the show but he was able to predict which therapist John would go to, Mrs Hudson kidnapping him, etc down to the hour, probably that John would put him in the hospital too and bring his cane as a nice parting gift. I also think it was ooc for this Sherlock not to realise the killer in ASIP was a cabbie like he does in the pilot. Silly me, I thought what made him human was love. Hey, sorry this is so late in coming! Things have just been super busy lately! Yes, I completely agree with everything you've said here. Just to be super clear, it's not that I think that Moffat or Gatiss are bad writers, per se, but they're lazy af and entitled af. Gatiss once sneered at someone asking a question about unresolved plot threads as us wanting "pablum", when what we the fandom have actually requested is, simply, quality work. Finished work. Work that doesn't leave gaping holes. I firmly believe that they're capable of writing work that meets that description, but they're smarmy and self-satisfied and are too busy scoffing at the very people who gave them the platform that they have to actually listen when we point out that something is half-baked. I could rant for a very long time about their view of what feminism looks like, but I won't do it again today. I fully agree about their inconsistent treatment of Sherlock. Either he's a super-human intellectually, or else he's so stupid that literally everyone else in his universe is said to be smarter than he is. He's the only person who ever needs to face a consequence for his actions - and not only that, but also the actions of OTHER people, like how Vivian Norbury's choice to pull a trigger and Mary Morstan's choice to somehow jump in front of Norbury's bullet were in any way done because Sherlock Holmes controls everyone and everything around him. What an incredibly stupid suggestion. I'll also just point out that attributing the agency and decisions of two women to a man is incredibly misogynistic, even if I loathe one of those women. Mary's actions were her own, and they were all very bad and she never once had to face a consequence or even pretend to be sorry for them. John also has a lot of shit to answer for (THE MORGUE SCENE, ANYONE!!!!), for going back to Mary (WTAF) after she shot Sherlock in the heart, on purpose, with the specific intent of preventing John from making an informed choice about her. Again, I could go on and on and on. Sherlock is the only person who has to face punishment, and man, do they love to punish him. I think I just had a breakthrough realization that Molly slapping Sherlock is their Mary Sue. Wow. Lol.

Feminism in Egypt, Part 2
FGM
FGM has a long, bloody history with African and Arab women. Some people say it originated in Ancient Egypt; others lean more towards it being a Bedouin Arab tradition. I’m not here to discuss the origin story of one of the most horrific human rights infarctions on earth. I’m here to talk about the current feminist struggle against it.
FGM was outlawed in Egypt in June of 2008, and a 2014 survey showed that a whopping 92% of married women and girls between 15 and 49 years old have been subjected to FGM (I will talk more about the inclusion of 15 year olds in official surveys of married women in a post about child brides), and that 72% of these crimes were carried out by doctors. In 2008, a DHS survey of women and girls in the same age range showed that 63% of them were in support of FGM as a practice. Of those 63%, 60% cited husband preference for ‘cleaned’ girls, and 39% cited religious reasons. All of these are easily googleable facts, but these things always sound so clinical when they’re presented like this. Cold, sterile, detached. So, let’s get a little deeper into it, shall we?
Girls in Egypt are mutilated anywhere between birth and marriage, but mostly before the age of 15. These are children. Every single year, we have cases of babies, toddlers, children, young women dying from botched mutilations and infections, especially after the 2016 criminalisation of FGM practitioners. Parents will take their daughters to backwater clinics, or have ‘doula’s who have no medical experience of any kind visit them at home, and cut into the flesh of their young daughters with non-sterile equipment, often without anaesthesia.
I’ve heard and read first-hand accounts of girls who got topical anaesthesia that wore out halfway through. I’ve heard and read first-hand accounts of girls who were dragged, kicking and screaming, and held down by family and neighbours forcefully as their bodies were torn into. Of girls who bled for days, of girls who had to have their legs bound to each other for weeks, of girls who couldn’t stop screaming in pain every time they went to the bathroom, to complete apathy and even disgust and anger from their families, of girls who were snarled at for making noise while their bodies were being torn away on their own beds, of girls who still have constant pain over a decade later, of girls who hate themselves and hate their vulvas, and hate their lives. Of girls who are suicidal, of girls who are terrified of marriage, who have trust issues, who can’t handle the thought of anyone touching them there again, after the first time being so traumatic and painful and horrifying. All of this is done while the family, and even friends and neighbours, celebrate in joy. It’s even tradition in some rural areas to take all the female children of the family to get ‘fixed’ together, dressed in pretty dresses and fancy shoes.
I’ve also heard of women who are asexual due to trauma, whose husbands rape them continuously, who are abused for refusing sex, whose families disown them for being such a disgrace, whose husbands divorce them and leave them for dead, whose husbands marry multiple women besides them, and they are left to fend for themselves, unable to get a divorce and move on, and completely abandoned by the people they trusted the most. They’re told the angels will curse them all night for refusing sex, but what about their trauma? What about their feelings? What about them, as people? Nobody cares.
So, how did we get here? There are 3 main reasons.
The ’’religious’’ folk will cite a (weak) hadith as their proof that FGM is a good, healthy practice. It goes that the prophet saw a woman going to get her daughter cut, and he told her to ‘not cut severely, as that is better for the woman and more preferable to the husband’. Apart from any implications of misogyny in this hadith, it has been disputed multiple times, along with a couple others in support of FGM. You can read more about that here.
Regardless of the truth of FGM having Islamic support, the reality of the matter is that a huge amount of actual, real life Muslim people cite these hadiths as their reasoning to mutilate their daughters, and everyone sees that as completely justified. The truth of the matter is this: Someone put these hadiths into the public conscience knowing full well they will be used to abuse, maim, hurt, kill women for centuries. Whether that someone was prophet Muhammed himself or later scholars, no one can actually ever know.
The second, more indirectly religious and directly misogynistic reason, is to ensure ‘purity’. You see, as I’ve talked about before and as many of you already know, women in Islam and in MENA in general are seen and treated as property. The family’s honour lies between a woman’s thighs. A young girl who speaks to boys her age in the most innocent context possible can be subjected to house arrest, beatings, forced stopping of her education, even death, for daring to put the family’s honour in jeopardy. A girl who has a boyfriend, well...
In a society that places so much value not only on women’s virginity, but also on their complete removal and separation from the male sex at any cost, it’s not very surprising that tips and tricks like using FGM to ‘cull a woman’s sexual desire’ spread like wildfire. Girls are mutilated to make sure they don’t become wh**es. This is said frankly, openly, it’s common knowledge. If you refuse to hurt your child in this way, you will be met with disdain and disgust, and even wails of despair, with shock, with animosity. “Do you want her to become like a prostitute and ruin your family name? Do you want her to walk around uncontrolled? Don’t you know what shame she will bring on you?” These statements are directed at girls as young as... in the womb, if you show your dissent early enough.
And the final reason is the least of them to hide under religious pretences, and the most misogynistic: Because this is how men prefer their wives to be.
You might think when I say preference here, I mean it in the way I mean, “Oh, I personally prefer brunette hair,” but you would be sorely mistaken. By prefer here, I mean demand. I mean a man could force his grown wife, through physical force or through abuse, to mutilate her body for his satisfaction. I mean that men will sneer at un-mutilated women. I mean that men will beat their wives on their wedding night to within an inch of her life for ‘cheating’ them if the wives are not mutilated. I mean men will suspect their wives of adultery and murder them, which carries a reduced sentence of ‘time served during investigation’, just for the simple act of having intact genitals. I mean men will divorce their wives on their wedding night for being unharmed, for being whole. I mean men will act so entitled to women’s bodies that they will always have the assumption that the ‘product’ they are ‘buying’ is cut to taste, and they will become violent and aggressive and murderous if they find out this is not the case.
I personally don’t know whether or not I’ve been mutilated. With such high numbers in Egypt, the likely answer is yes, but I genuinely have no clue. I am not allowed to ask about these things, or I’ll be seen as a loose wh**re. My parents would beat me up and they still wouldn’t allow me the dignity of knowing whether my own body has been altered against my will. I don’t know if I’ll ever find out.
The feminists fighting constantly for tighter regulations, for harsher punishments, for longer sentences; these women are seen as the spawn of the devil. Accusations of loose morals are thrown their way day in and day out. Death threats and rape threats (’that’s what you want anyway isn’t it?’) are hurled at them from every direction. They are silenced. They are ridiculed. But they are prevailing. This year, the Egyptian president has decided to alter the FGM laws to cover loopholes, and possibly to increase enforcement. He has also altered the charge set to doctors who perform FGM which results in death from manslaughter to first or second degree murder.
The problem, however, remains in lack of reporting. Ever since the criminalisation of performing FGM in 2008, and the setting of punishments in 2016 as a minimum of three months’ jail time, to a maximum of 2 years, or a minimum of 1000EGP to a maximum of 5000EGP fines (63.71 to 318.53 USD), and until 2018, and possibly until today, not a single mutilator had been convicted.
Imagine being fined as little as 60 dollars for the permanent mutilation of a little girl’s body. And even that is not happening.
People refuse to report the monsters who do perform this, despite a 2012 gynaecology convention condemning the practice, and calling it an inhumane act, and stating quite forcefully that it is not a medical procedure, and that it is an infringement on the human rights of women and girls, which medicine and medical ethics do not condone. And yet, the public opinion remains the same: this is their business, it is not our place to intervene. It is not our place to get this fine young man thrown in jail, or fined, for performing a ‘cleaning’ procedure, and besides, wouldn’t you rather they had a medical professional perform it, rather than an uneducated woman, or a barber, or a butcher? It is not our place to report this family and tear them apart -  what did they ever do to us that we may hurt them like this?
No one ever asks what little girls have ever done for us to fail them like this.

Teen Wolf triads are something that can be so personal, so here’s a list of my faves
Scott/Stiles/Allison
The OG trio. The gang that dies together might not stay together, but they’re still iconic.
Scott/Stiles/Lydia
Any Scott/Stiles/X dynamic is brilliant, but few more than this one. These three have been there since the beginning and they’ve gone through so much together. There’s no Teen Wolf without them.
Scott/Stiles/Derek
They were the driving force in S1&2 and had some absolutely iconic moments together. Hate that there wasn’t more of them after that.
Scott/Derek/Isaac
Mostly based on S2/3. I was very invested in Isaac’s struggle to pick between these two.
Scott/Stiles/Isaac
This triad’s dynamic completely changes between S2 and 3. In Season 2, Isaac, as part of Derek’s pack is a slightly antagonistic figure and it’s very much Scott&Stiles vs Isaac but in S3, Scott and Isaac grow closer while Isaac and Stiles erm, don’t. It’s very fun to watch.
Scott/Isaac/Allison
My ot3 and the only trio on this list that I 100% ship.
Isaac/Erica/Boyd
Ayy, it’s the OG Hale Pack aka 3 teens bonding over being thrown headfirst into something they weren’t prepared for and Derek’s horrible leadership. Isaac should’ve ran away with Erica and Boyd for solidarity’s sake.
Chris/Allison/Isaac
Chris’s struggle between hating Isaac for dating his daughter and wanting to adopt him is hilarious. One of my favourites.
Scott/Melissa/Isaac
Who didn’t completely melt at Isaac joining the McCall fam? The scene where they’re ‘guarding’ Melissa was so cute. As a bonus, it made Stiles’s animosity towards Isaac that much stronger. Will forever hate that this trio was more or less non-existent in 3b even though I love Chris/Allison/Isaac.
Derek/Cora/Peter
The non-dead Hales. Why oh why did Cora have to leave? Their family dynamic was great.
Allison/Lydia/Cora
I know they only had a couple scenes as a triad, but there was so potential. We love antagonism with underlying sexual tension. And ofc, the only thing better than 1 terrifying badass that can secretly be super sweet is 3 terrifying badasses.
Derek/Isaac/Boyd
At one point, the only non-dead members of the Hale Pack (TW quickly amended that). I always think of the S3a Loft scene where Boyd and Isaac skip school to protect Derek. Despite how awful of an alpha Derek’s been, they still care about him and he cares about them (as actual people and not just betas that he needs for power like he did originally)
Derek/Allison/Lydia.
Yes it’s my 5th s3 based trio in a row, but can you blame me? This is 100% based off the classroom scene in 3x02.
Allison/Lydia/Jackson
Although Lydia and Jackson were both awful in S1, their friendship with Allison and their immediately taking her under their wing was beyond precious. Additionally, it combines both the asshole-who’s-soft-towards-1-person- dynamic (jydia w/ allison) and assholes-who-secretly-care-about-each-other (jydia) And ofc, the underlying tension due to Jydia’s disdain towards Scott and later, Jackson and Allison’s experiences/knowledge of the supernatural.
Malia/Kira/Lydia
Comedy gold. Their scenes speak for themselves and we needed more.
Liam/Mason/Corey
Their S6a dynamic is sooo underrated and should’ve been given more screen time. I loved watching Liam and Corey struggle to get along for Mason’s sake because they want him to be happy. It was all very wholesome and one of the few things that made 6a worth watching.
Stiles/Scott/Liam
Aka the best part of S4.Their dynamic is so fun and well-balanced and infinitely better because they’re a triad. You’ve got Scott and Liam figuring out their mentor/mentee relationship with Stiles co-parenting and preventing the Scott/Liam dynamic from turning unhealthy. (Liam and Scott’s S6 dynamic veered way too close to parent/child for my taste. They need Stiles to balance it out) It’s also hilarious how quickly Liam accepts being aggressively adopted by two idiots who are barely older than him. And Stiles takes so easily to playing older brother/co-parent. It’s adorable. They’re adorable.
Erica/Allison/Lydia
Very similar dynamic to Allison/Lydia/Cora due to Cora and Erica’s similar personalities but also not, which has a lot to do with Allison and Lydia’s reactions to Erica’s weaponized feminity. Also, there’s a lot more history between these girls and I want to know everything about what Erica thinks of Lydia after going to school with her for years.
Sherriff/Melissa/Chris
Of the top of my head, I can only remember that time where they were trapped under the Nemeton and that’s simply unacceptable.
Sheriff/Noshiko/Melissa.
It’s a crime that this triad never got scenes. Especially after the Sheriff tried to arrest Kira. I know Melissa bitch slapped him but I wanted to watch these two badasses gang up on the Sheriff together. ( the Noshiko/Melissa dynamic would be so iconic.)
Victoria/Noshiko/Melissa
Another triad that never shared scenes (obviously because Vic is dead) but their power would’ve been off the charts. I want to make a joke about milfs, but I’ll refrain.
The Yukimura fam
Seemed appropriate since my last two also included. Noshiko.I love family dynamics and the Yukimuras are no exception. The attraction of this triad, for me, is mostly the dynamic between Kira and Noshiko and how Ken navigates between them. They’re also a trio that we didn’t see nearly enough of in S4 and 5. Like seriously, where were they? Noshiko’s on the dead pool, but she’s barely mentioned. (on a mostly unrelated note, how is the 900 yr old Kitsune worth less than a girl that just found about her kitsune powers?)
Derek/Allison/Scott
I don’t need to explain this one. The angst, the drama, Derek projecting Kate onto Allison and Allison trying to murder Derek and their evolution to reluctant allies with a good dash of Scallison and Scott navigating his own difficult relationship with Derek. Aka the complicated, tension fraught trio we all loved/should love. ( ok, I kind of explained it)
Derek/Scott/Liam
And here we have a two for one deal; two mentor/mentee dynamics in 1 triad. People much smarter than me have written about this trio in extensive detail, so all I’m saying is that Derek’s that one uncle who occasionally comes around and gives somewhat helpful advice.
Braeden/Malia/Scott
Braeden and Scott were great in S4. Braeden and Malia were great in S5. Scott and Malia are pretty great when they’re not in a relationship. Combine, and you get what had to be a kick-ass triad that’s sadly never canonly shown together (I think)
Melissa/Chris/Isaac
Not actually featured in the show, but Isaac deserves all the parental figures and I want to witness the surely epic custody battle between Chris and Melissa.
Malia/Scott/Peter
That this trio is on here is actually pretty funny because I hate both Scalia and the forced Peter/Malia bonding in S6. But I loved the scene where Peter warned Malia not to fall in love with Scott because a) he has absolutely 0 right to advise her on anything and b) because of the history between Scott and Peter. In a way, a relationship with Malia is just another thing tying Scott to someone that’s repeatedly caused harm to him and his friends and was the initial cause for all the pain he’s suffered in the last couple years. I just find this dynamic worth exploring.
Malia/Derek/Peter
The Hales 2.0. Derek and Malia deserve to bond over unwillingly being related to Peter, that scumbag.
Malia/Stiles/Peter
Stiles and Peter are so fun together and Stalia is my jam. Throw in an antagonistic Malia and Peter relationship and they’re entertaining as hell. Much more lighthearted than Malia/Scott/Peter.
Stiles/Malia/Lydia
To clarify, this has nothing to do with a love triangle and everything to do with how their personalities play off each other. It’s one of those trios where together, they’re either terrifying or absolute morons.
Stiles/Cora/Derek
Admittedly, my version of this is very Sterek+Cora and the hilarity of Stiles and his attraction to Hales but it’s also 3x snark and you really can’t go wrong.
Scott/Stiles/Melissa
It’s Melissa and her boys 1.0. This woman is by far the best parent on this show, and I love the specific dynamic among these three. Melissa might not always like Stiles, but she cares about him and there’s the mutual understanding that they both adore Scott and would do anything for him. Also, Mel being exasperated by the dumbass duo is always funny.
Kate/Allison/Chris
Lowkey another custody battle because Kate and Chris do fight to be the bigger influence on Allison This is such a tragic trio to me, and the lesson here is basically that sometimes love isn’t enough. Chris and Kate both genuinely love Allison and she loves them too but can’t have both and at some point, she has neither. Kate and Chris care about each other, but that’s not enough either. In the end, they all lose each other. There’s no happy ending for them, at least not with each other.
Derek/Stiles/Peter
Stiles just has chemistry (not necessarily romantic) with all Hales and this trio really shines through in 3x01 and in S3 in general. “Chess is Stiles’s game” asgdhfjgh. I wanted more of that very specific dynamic.
That was a hell lot longer than I thought it would be, but what can you do. Feel free to tell me your own opinions in the tags/comments.

I accidentally hit the 'follow' button and I'm not regretting it. I love Frequency the movie (even though they are Mets fans). I've lost track how many times I've seen it and I still cry at the end when Frank shows up in the present to save John.
Okay fuck it, heading for my laptop cause there is just so much I have to say about this movie. I love it so much okay.
Major spoilers for the whole movie. You haven't seen it? 1) Why the fuck not? 2) Leave right now and watch it!
The underlying theme of the movie, of loss and grief.
The wish to be able to just go back in time, or change the past, to bring back someone that we lost and that we love.
Butterfly Effect did something like this too, just focused way more on the ripple effects.
Frequency on the other hand leaves it all way simpler.
You got John who lost his dad at a young age, discovering that the old CB radio of his father's still works and for some odd reason transmits through space and time.
He can talk to his dead father and even manages to prevend his death, only for them both to realise that meddling with time can have devestating consequences.
You see, John is a cop in present day, and hunting this serial killer (The Nightingale Killer) that was active back when his dad was still alive. We learn that the killer actually would have died, around the same time as Frank himself. John preventing his father's death, also prevented the Nightingale's death. And now his mother is supposed to be another Nightingale victim.
Father and son team up, through space and time, to safe their wife and mother and to figure out the killer's true identity.
There is so much about this movie that I just love.
The mystery around who the killer is, and the cat and mouse game involved in hunting him down.
The significance of, „I'm still here, chief.“
The fact that this movie has an intact nuclear family, that is loving and supportive all around.
This exchange between Frank and Jules is why I love this movie, in a nutshell.
„Julia burns spaghetti sauce: Damn.
Frank: You alright?
Julia: I think I ruined the sauce...again.
Frank: What's the matter, Jules? Trouble workin' an eight hour shift, watching the kid and whipping up a little bolognese?
Julia: You didn't marry Donna Reed. Frank: I'd go with you and Chinese take-out over her any time.“
This exchange is everything. There is no animosity, no faux feminism or wokeness. It's just this loving, all american family.
John becomes a police officer, even though he comes from a long like of fire fighters. His dad was a fire fighter, his grand father, and so on.
Frank drives a 1965 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide.
They are all about the baseball in that movie, watching the 1969 World Series.
Frank loves Rock 'n' Roll music. For fucks sake their dalmatian puppy is named 'Elvis'.
„Frank: Lemme tell you something, in a 1000 years, when school kids study America, they're gonna learn about three things: the Constitution, Rock 'n' Roll, and Baseball.“
Yet another quote that shows just why I love this movie so much.
This movie was made in just simpler times, and showed us such an ideal picture of what we could have that it makes my heart ache.
I have a loving family like that, and I wish in the deepest pits of my heart that I can make something like that too some day. That I can have a loving husband, like Frank, be a loving wife and mother, like Jules, and have kids and a pet and a family.
Then you got this mysterie around the Nightingale Killer that John and Frank have to solve and it's the cherry on top of the cake. And you have it all work out for the protagonists for once.
It's not nihilistic like Butterfly Effect, but actually gives you a happy ending.
They manage to defeat the Nightingale Killer, and Frank safes the day to a victorious, „I'm still here, chief.“
Julia is safed, John hasn't broken up with his girlfriend and actually has a son of his own in this reality.
He could tell his best friend to invest in yahoo and got rid of all his financial troubles.
The northern lights people. The only reason John and Frank can talk through space and time is because of „the mother sun spot“.
The sun spot actually causes aurora borealis to be seen over Queens. The northern lights which, in many cultures of the native americans, were seen as a part of the lifes circle.
Brother bear anybody.
And then John is able to safe his father, and later his mother, due to this mother sun spot? Deceased.
The eding people. 'When you come back to me again' by Garth Brooks starts playing and I'm bawling. This movie is perfection, and I honestly don't get how EVERYBODY seems to sleeping on it. Just gonna spam you with some stills now.

ngl asking for people who self-identify as "antis" is already biasing your results because the term originated from fans being defensive over getting called out (eg the types who sincerely think fandom culture is ""puritan""). fair number of people started to use the term ironically and it might be evening out but overall the post calling for responses on the survey still comes off as something written in bad faith?
I wrote a rather long and involved response and then tumblr ate it. Goshdarn.
Fair warning, this is a hyperfixation and I’m coming off of a migraine so this may not be very cogent. Please read this in the over excited tones of someone infodumping about emulsifiers, with no animosity intended.
So, tl;dr and with a lot fewer links, I’m incredibly interested by your perspective that “anti” originated as a derogatory term.
As far as I am aware, the etymological history of the word “anti” being used pejoratively is coming from some very new debates.
I’m also noting that you had no feedback regarding the content of the questions themselves, which I would be interested in hearing as I am genuinely coming from a place without censure.
The term “anti” actually is a self-descriptor that arose in the Livejournal days, where you’d tag something as “Anti ___” for other like minded people to find. (For example, my cursory google search pulled up 10 Anti Amy Lee communities on LJ).
I’m a self-confessed old. I was back in fandom before Livejournal, aaaall the way back in the Angelfire days. Webrings children! We had webrings! And guest books for you to sign!
I’m going to take a swing for the fences here Anon, so if I’m wrong please let me know, but I’m going to guess you became active as a fan in the past 5-8 years based of your use of the term puritan.
There’s actually a HUGELY new debate in fandom spaces! Previously, it was assumed that:
a) All fandom spaces are created and used by adults only.
b) If you were seeing something, it’s because you dug for it.
These assumptions were predicated upon what spaces fandoms grew in. First you had Star Trek TOS fandom, which grew in 1970s housewives kitchens. They were all friends irl, and everyone was an adult, and you actively had to reach out to other adults to talk about things. (By the way- a woman lost custody of her children in the divorce when her ex husband brought up to the judge she kept a Kirk/Spock zine under her bed. The judge ruled this as obvious signs of moral deficiency. That was in the 80s! Everyone is still alive and the parents are younger than my coworkers!)
Time: 1967-1980s. Is Anti a term? No. Who is the term used by? N/A Is fandom space considered Puritanical? No.
Then, when the internet came about, it was almost exclusively used by adults until The Eternal September. 1993 was the year that changed the internet for good, but even years after that the internet was a majority adult space. Most kids and teens didn’t have unlimited access if their parents even had a home computer in the 90s.
This is the rise of Angelfire, which were fansites all connected to each other in “rings”. You had to hunt for content. If you found something you didn’t like, well, you clicked out and went on with your day because you’d never see it again unless you really dug. This was truly the wild west, tagging did not exist and you could go from fluff to vore in the blink of an eye with nothing warning you before hand. All fannish spaces were marked “here be dragons” and attempts were made to at least adopt the “R/NC-17″ ratings on works to some limited success, depending on webmaster.
Time: 1990-1999. Is Anti a term? No. Who is the term used by? N/A Is fandom space considered Puritanical? No.
In 1999 LiveJournal arose like a leviathan, and here is where the term Anti emerges as a self descriptor. Larger communities began to form, and with them, divisions. Now, you could reach so many fans you could reach a critical mass of them for enough of them to dislike a ship. The phrase “Anti” became a self-used tag, as people tagged their works, communities, and blogs with “anti” (NB: this is at far, far smaller rates than today). Anti was first and foremost a tagging tool used and created by the people who were vehemently against something.
You could find content more easily than in the past, but you still had to put some serious elbow grease into it.
In 2007, Livejournal bans users for art "depicting minors in explicit sexual situations”. The Livejournal community explodes in anger- towards Livejournal staff. The account holders/fans view this as corporate puritanical meddling. The outrage continues as it is revealed these bans were part of a pre-sale operation to SUP Services. SUP Services, upon taking over Livejournal in 2008, proceeds to filter the topics “bisexuality, depression, faeries, girls, boys, and fanfiction”.
The Great LiveJournal Migration begins, as fans leave the site in droves.
Time: 1999-2009. Is Anti a term? Yes. Who is the term used by? People self describing, seeking to create communities based off a dislike of something. Is fandom space considered Puritanical? No.
Where do fans go? Well, in the last decade, they migrated to Tumblr and Twitter (sorry Pillowfort- you gave it a good try!)
What’s different about all of these sites? Individuals are able to create and access content streams. These are hugely impactful in how communities are formed! Because now:
a) finding content is easier
b) finding content you dislike by accident is easier
c) content you dislike requires active curation to avoid
d) truly anonymous outreach is possible and easy (for example, you anon! Isn’t it much easier to go on anon to bring up awkward or sensitive topics? I’m happy you did by the way, and that’s why I keep my anons open. It’s an important contextual tool in the online communications world!)
Now the term Anti gets sprightly. Previously, if you didn’t like content, there was nothing you could really do about it. For example, I, at the tender age of way-too-young, opened up a page of my favorite Star Trek Deep Space 9 fansite and pixel by pixel with all the loading speed of a stoned turtle a very anatomically incorrect orgy appeared.
I backed out.
1. Who could I contact? There was no “message me here” button, no way to summon any mods on Angelfire sites.
2. If I did manage to find a contact button, I would have had to admit I went onto a site that wasn’t designed to keep me safe. I knew this was a site for adults, I knew there wasn’t a way to stop it from showing something. There was no such thing as tags. I knew all of this before going in. So the assumption was, it was on me for looking. (Some may have argued it was on my parents for not supervising me- all I can say is thank GOD no one else was in the living room and my mom was around the corner in the kitchen.)
But now? On Tumblr? On Twitter? In a decade in which tagging is so easy and ubiquitous it’s expected?
Now people who describe themselves as antis start to have actual tools and social conventions to utilize.
Which leads to immediate backlash! Content creators are confused and upset- fandom spaces have been the wild west for decades, and there’s still no sherriff in town. So the immediate go-to argument is that these people who are messaging them are “puritans”.
And that’s actually an interesting argument! A huge factor in shaping the internet’s social mores in the latest decades is cleanliness for stockbrokers. Websites can become toxic to investors and to sales if they contain sexual content. Over time, corporations perfected a mechanism for “cleaning” a site for sale.
Please note there is no personal opinion or judgement in this next list, it is simply a description of corporate strategies you can read during the minute meetings of shareholders for Tumblr, Twitter, Paypal, Venmo, Facebook, Myspace, Yahoo Answers, and Livejournal.
1. Remove sex workers. Ban any sex work of any kind, deplatform, keep any money you may have been holding.
2. Remove pedophilia. This is where the jump begins between content depicting real people vs content depicting fictional characters begins.
3. Remove all sexual image content, including artwork of fictional characters.
4. Remove all sexual content, including written works. If needed, loop back to step 2 as a justification, and claim you do not have the moderators to prevent written works depicting children.
I would like to reiterate these are actual gameplans, so much so that they’ve made their way into business textbooks. (Or at least they did for my Modern Marketing & App Design classes back in the early 2010s. Venmo, of course, wasn’t mentioned, but I did read the shareholder’s speeches when they banned sex workers from the platform so I added them in the list above because it seems they’re following the same pattern.)
So you have two groups who are actively seeking to remove NSFW content from the site.
A) Corporate shareholders
B) People are upset they’re seeing NSFW content they didn’t seek out and squicks them
Now, why does this matter for the debates using the term “puritan” as an insult?
Because the reasons corporate shareholders hate NSFW material is founded in American puritanism. It’s a really interesting conflation of private sector values! And if Wall Street were in another cultural context, it would be a completely different discussion which I find fascinating!
But here’s the rub- that second group? They're not doing this for money. If there are any puritanical drives, it’s personal, not a widespread cohesive ideology driving them. HOWEVER! The section of that group that spent the early 2010s on tumblr did pick up some of the same rhetoric as puritanical talking points (which is an entirely separate discussion involving radfems, 4chan raids, fourth wave feminism, and a huge very nuanced set of influences I would love to talk about at a later time!)
These are largely fans who have “grown up” in the modern sites- no matter how old they actually are, their fandom habits and expectations have been shaped by the algorithms of these modern sites.
Now HERE‘s the fascinating bit that’s new to me! This is the interpretation of the data I’m getting, and so I’m out on a limb but I think this is a valid premise!
The major conflict in fandom at this time is a struggle over personal space online.
Content creators are getting messages telling them to stop, degrading them, following them from platform to platform.
They say “Hey! What gives- we were here first. The cardinal rule of fandom is don’t like, don’t read. Fandom space has always been understood to be adult- it’s been this way for decades! To find our content, you had to come to us! This is our space! This is my space, this is my blog! If you don’t like it, you’re not obligated to look!”
Meanwhile, at the exact same time, antis are saying “Hey! What gives- this content is appearing on my screen! That’s my space!  I didn’t agree to this, I don’t like this! I want it to be as far away from me as possible! I will actively drive it away.”
This is a major cultural shift! This is a huge change and a huge source of friction! And I directly credit it to the concept of “content stream” and algorithms driving similar-content to users despite them not wanting it!
Curating your online space used to be much simpler, because there wasn’t much of it! Now with millions of users spread out over a wide age range, all feeding in to the same 4-5 websites, we are seeing people be cramped in a technically limitless space!
Now people feel that they have to go on the offense to defend themselves against content they don’t like, which is predicated upon not only the algorithms of modern websites but ALSO talking points fed from the top down of what is and what is not acceptable on various platforms.
Time: 2010-2020. Is Anti a term? Yes. Who is the term used by? People self describing, and people using it to describe others. Is fandom space considered Puritanical? Depends!
So I, a fandom ancient, a creaky thing of old HTML codes and broken tags, am watching this transformation and am wildly curious for data.
Also...I uh....I can’t believe this is the short version. My ADHD is how you say “buckwild” tonight.
Tumblr media
Anyways...um...if anyone has read to the bottom, give me data?

charmed reboot list sorry this is long
pros:
i do really love the actresses
the house being just similar enough is perfect
macy’s friend? romantic interest? is a sweetheart and i love him. more of him please
this is admittedly minor but the outfits are great
LESBIAN MEL i always thought paige should have been a lesbian so i will take the new piper as a lesbian enthusiastically
“i don’t even like dressing as a witch on halloween! not even like a slutty one!”
the piper freeze time hand motion reference was 10/10
“can we go back to the part about the apocalypse” “not really i’ve got a rhythm here”
the dialogue when not doing topical social activism awkward “see we’re a woke show” bits is actually fun and good
MELINDA WARREN PAGE IN THE BOOK OF SHADOWS!!!!!!!
mel practicing her powers on her (sort of ex)girlfriend was cute
“no ken i’m not wearing a costume” i actually snorted in laughter
cons:
having the mom death more recent (as opposed to grams being the one who passed) feels like a weird bid for forced drama/high emotions rather than just having it be about sister relationships also it adds a weird layer of animosity to their relationships since its a murder not an accident (in the original show their mom was murdered yes but like decades earlier and the death that brought them together in the pilot was grams and her death was an accident)
this is admittedly minor but what the fuck is up with the attic design having chairs nailed to the walls? it looks less like an attic and more like a funhouse
“kappa is woke” yikes like i get it was supposed to be something off-putting but the way the show is using activism-adjacent terms is very uhhh... awkward
THE WHITELIGHTER TIED THEM TO CHAIRS WHAT THE FUCK
additionally the whitelighter having a role of basically giles from buffy is EXACTLY the kind of shit i was afraid would happen by aging the sisters down. instead of being independent adult women who have to figure this out for themselves they now have a teacher every step of the way. leo wasn’t revealed as a whitelighter until the end of s1 in the original so they had to figure out most of it on their own and had already mostly hit a stride by the time of the whitelighter reveal. the buffy and giles dynamic is immediately not as fun for me. this show talks about feminism and name drops roxane gay but won’t let the main characters find their footing on their own
whitelighters teleport is way worse and dumb looking like i don’t need them to bring back the lights but that was really bad cgi so literally do anything else please
i am really exhausted by all shows demonizing sororities like i get it or whatever but sororities actually do a shitton of good and provide a lot of support for girls who are often striking out away from home for the first time and that kind of bullshit trope of portraying them as vapid monsters while claiming to be a show about feminism feels yucky
the “wheelchair bound misdirect because actually he can stand and is evil” thats uhh not great
having the spells be in latin i’m sure made someone think it would make it seem more mystical or whatever but bleh it is more fun when its rhymes or at least understandable for why it works
that was bad bad cgi
neither pro nor con yet:
changing the power of premonition to touch-activated mindreading is weird and i’m not sure how i feel about it because admittedly premonition was the worst of the powers and had to be shoehorned in a lot but touch-activated mind reading feels just as meh
macy trying to find a scientific explanation to her powers feels like a fun killer but it COULD be fun/interesting but having to explain away fantastical elements with science is so boring and very 2009 so i’m undecided on that element
having the older sister be the sister who didn’t grow up with them makes more sense than younger but also like i feel as if it separates them more? she doesn’t need to look to the others for guidance because she’s not younger but they wouldn’t look to her for that because the other two have each other. i’m hmmm on this change. willing to see how it plays out
overall: i sorta like it. except i really REALLY don’t like the garbage whitelighter as the giles to their buffy complete with a british accent shit and his really jarring and bad cgi teleporting animation. felt like they were trying to cram TOO MUCH into the pilot because they had a lot of plot to push through so i’m definitely going to give it a few more episodes before making a decision but right now it honestly feels like it could go either way
EDIT: if harry is a fake whitelighter i’m more inclined to be ok with his dumb shit

Is Kahlo Inspired Items Any Good? Five Ways You Can Be Certain | kahlo inspired items
Deepika Padukone was photographed at one of her bells accession parties cutting an intensely-floral Sabyasachi lehenga-skirt and top, commutual with milkmaid braids, acute brows, row of roses in her hair, and an all-embracing attending that was an ableist, calmly whitewashed adaptation of Frida Kahlo.
Frida Kahlo Inspired Floral Arrangement | Get The Look | Afloral – kahlo inspired items | kahlo inspired items
Who is Frida Kahlo, and why does her angel matter?
For the uninitiated, Frida Kahlo was an iconic Mexican artisan who was accepted for her aggressive feminism and apostasy adjoin academic gender norms. Abounding do not apperceive that she was additionally disabled. This is because, in contempo years, her angel has undergone a transformation. The paintings and balladry which actual the affliction of disability, the complication of actuality bisexual, the arduous ability bare to be a woman of colour who is anomalous are no best beheld as adumbrative of what went into authoritative her the figure she is.
Frida is an afflatus for the disabled because she congenital her personality and appearance faculty about her disability, afterwards actuality bedfast for a while. With a burst aback and impaled uterus due to an adverse accident, she began to focus on the body, abnormally the changeable body, alike more. Unapologetic about her anatomy beard way aback in the ‘50s, she alike batten about her disability to accept accouchement through her paintings; and would additionally generally actualize art alluding to her bisexuality- aback back it was not a ‘thing’.
Why Frida wore what she wore, and how that continues to access fashion
Frida Kahlo Inspired Mexican Gift Items – Artelexia – kahlo inspired items | kahlo inspired items
Frida was accepted for her scarlet lips, amidst by the caliginosity of beard at the corners of her mouth. In her self-portraits, Frida would acrylic herself cutting lots of crimson on her cheeks. Her unibrows, blubbery atramentous lashes, and atramentous beard were not aloof a affidavit to the accustomed adorableness of Mexican women–but additionally a account about the blameworthy blueprint of hairlessness with sexiness.
Elaborately done-up, generally into braided buns–her beard was mostly brindled with colourful flowers, abnormally roses. Meant to abstract bodies from acquainted her prosthetic leg, her face, hair, and alike her shawl-covered high anatomy was draped with layers of affluent bolt and beaded necklaces. Alike her corset, which was afresh baldheaded and displayed, had the antipathetic attribute of a sickle on it to appearance her adherence to the academy of thought.
While these clothes were an ode to her heritage, they were additionally accurate attempts to beacon the beholder abroad from her breakable limbs and assimilate her personality. So, to use these and abounding added carefully-chosen items of clothing, which represented circuitous things about her life, is rather ignorant.
The commercialisation of Kahlo, essentially, makes about every representation of her today, problematic
Items similar to Red and White Frida Kahlo Inspired Headband on Etsy – kahlo inspired items | kahlo inspired items
Today, her iconoclasm is forgotten. Bodies accumulation braids on top of their heads, ample in their eyebrows, and put a few flowers in their beard to be “cool” and “different” by fetishising what she stood for after compassionate that it is a confiscation and bark of who she was.
When you analyze a hairless, privileged, cishet, and high-society supermodel to Frida Kahlo–you are about accident Kahlo’s claimed struggles. You’re abrogation out the annoying things, the anarchistic beauty, and utilising alone what is acceptable to society, back she spent her accomplished activity angry adjoin that.
From actuality bargain to a Snapchat clarify to actuality beat as a Halloween costume–Frida Kahlo has become what she spent her absolute activity angry against. She was accepted for her upper-lip beard and her unibrow, and fabricated a account with this abolishment of what it agency to attending womanly.
Shouldn’t boilerplate designers like Sabyasachi apperceive bigger than to ape her style?
Apron Frida Kahlo Vintage Inspired Mexican Apron FREE … – kahlo inspired items | kahlo inspired items
It is accurate that Frida dressed in a acceptable address that reflected her aboriginal roots. She did this at a time back it wasn’t accessible for women of colour to abrasion accouterment from their country and represent themselves on a all-around platform, thus. Despite that resonating with the angel a artist like Sabyasachi Mukherjee brand to project, is absolutely adverse to what Sabyasachi’s comfortable assignment tries to fetishise, back it got women like Frida mocked and alone in her antecedent days.
This allegory of Deepika to Frida–or of application Frida as an “inspiration” abaft collections by assertive designers who abduct her artful after compassionate the history abaft it–is awful disrespectful. Further, for Ranveer Singh to say that Deepika Padukone looked like “Frida Kahlo on acid” was a gross trivialisation of Frida’s struggles, of her politics, of her talent, and of the blazon of trendsetter she was.
In animosity of the concoction Kahlo’s angel has undergone, and befitting in apperception the actuality that it is “just fashion,” we charge bethink that sartorial choices can’t be alone from politics. Much the way we can’t abstain criticism for Gigi Hadid or Kendall Jenner channelling their “inner atramentous girl”; we can’t abduct Frida Kahlo’s bequest of affront and abate it to elements of appearance which are acceptable for us to accept at that point, adage that we’re “channelling” her. Unless you’re talking about a disabled, bisexual, androgynous woman of colour–don’t amusement Frida Kahlo’s attending like addition who existed in a vacuum.

So, I don’t know when I’ll actually post this, but under the cut is a little shit meta on Lunafreya’s tarot spread! Below is a careful analysis of the cards The Empress & The World and the link they have to my portrayal of Lunafreya Nox Fleuret.
Now, let’s begin with the major arcana and their meanings.
Tumblr media
On it’s own The Empress represents feminity, beauty, nature, etc. upright. Reversed, it stands for creative block and dependence on others. ( I know most of you saw “dependence” and are now thinking of why this doesn’t fit Lunafreya, but please wait. ) The Empress is a motherly card who is nature around us and within us, the source of life-giving power. She is who provides security and nourishment. Often, she is pictured as blonde haired woman with a peaceful, calm aura surrounding her and a crown made of stars, showing us her connection to the realm of angels and such. Her background consists of trees, water, etc, which is suppose to inform us of her emotional link to nature and life. The pomegranates on her robes are a symbol of fertility and the symbol of Venus can be seen next to her.
The Empress encourages you to connect with your femininity and nature. To create beauty and enjoy what Mother Earth has to offer us.
When reversed, the Empress means you are too concerned with another person’s needs and, in turn, neglecting your own. You may also have issues working with others and cooperating.
The World, upright, means completion, accomplishment and travel. Reversed, it means lack of completion and lack of closure. This card is The Hangman’s opposite. The dancer in the card is suppose to be celebrating a journey that has come to an end and new beginnings that await. The wreath surrounding her means accomplishment, victory and achievement and is tied with the red ribbons of eternity. Within the wreath are stars of light which means attainment to enlightenment or cosmic consciousness. These ribbons are shaped into an infinity symbol and is symbolic for infinite rewards for positive effort in improving ones self as well as those around us. Surrounding the dancer are four fixed zodiacs which elements symbolize seasons, compass points, and the four corners of the universe ( Aquarius, Leo, Taurus & Scorpio ). Similarly, these heads are also on the Wheel of Fortune tarot which The World is associated with. ( A reflection of cyclical progression of time and the human experience).
The card represents us completing a fulfilling journey where the hardships only made us wiser. Our purpose has been achieved and we are in the right place as well as new beginnings that emerge from a journeys or cycles end.
Together, the pair symbolizes someone with a high sense of purpose, constrasting to themselves as both expressive and reserved. Self indulgent, unconcerned with consequences, but also graceful and living how you’re meant to live life.
( helpful sources I’ve painfully tried to reword are x and x as well as my own brother)
Where is the link between these major arcanas and Lunafreya?
I’m never sure where to begin with this question so we will start with talking of her qualities ( and the ones I’ve taken upon myself to develop ).
Lunafreya’s duty as Oracle to the people and her calling to assist Noctis in fulfilling his destiny is one of the major defining features in her character ( both in the game and in kingsglaive ). She holds a steady and strong resolve in order to help save their world and bring the light back, overpowering the darkness that’s threatening to consume them. She has sworn to protect those around her and have proven to be quite selfless.
In Kingsglaive, Luna was insistent that Nyx bring her back to King Regis as well as not placing Noctis in danger with the empire. It was even to the point where she jumped out of the ship in order to reunite with the king in order to get receive the ring. She takes initiative to achieve the goals laid out before her and accepted all consequences as she’s made clear here and here. It’s not an understatement to say she completely disregards herself in order to see the safety and security of others, even willing to play the martyr.
In one scene in Kingsglaive, Lunafreya, though seemingly reluctant, manipulated Luche into putting on the ring knowing full well what would happen.
Lunafreya is not known to follow the guidance and orders of others. She despises the empire for what they’ve done as well as their constant need to control and contain her. It could feel suffocating and restraining; heightening ones paranoid of being watched and building resentment in being seen as weak. Many years she had spent being constantly monitored as well as physically manhandled in any efforts to resist. The physical and emotional torment had not caused her to crumble, though. In the span of twelve years, it’s fueled the flames of her resolve to see an end to choas and war and bring peace to all. To die for ones cause is a symbolic death and Luna is unafraid of the concept of dying.
Niflhiem served as a trial in building backbone and creating conviction. There is a need to sacrifice everything in order to better the lives of her people and loved ones. To stand tall and no longer let the enemy have the upper hand against her. She seeks justice and power over herself. Being confined emotionally and physically exhausted her and the empire desperately attempted to break her down and rebuild her in their image. Yet, her mothers death and the invasion of her kingdom was enough to enforce stubbornness and inner strength. In order to keep what little independence she had left, Lunafreya forced herself to grow up faster and build emotional stability and strength.
Despite this, Luna never saw herself just guiding Noctis as if he was a follower. She saw something greater in him and desired to stand behind him and not in front of him. Though her wisdom was plenty and served to assist him, to be his equal held higher importance. Lunafreya, who never felt she could be outright selfish, wanted to be when it came to her shared duty with Noctis. It goes without saying that their bond was strong, near unbreakable( whether you want to see if as platonic or romantic ).
When it comes to how I portray Lunafreya, I have taken into thought how much I wanted her, as Noctis’ foil, to contrast and compliment him while also reversing room for her to grow into her own person.
Her relationship with the Gods is complicating. She sees no point in bending the knee and is stern, unafraid in their presence. Selfish beings who only look down on mortal and, yet, she prefers to keep her feelings towards them ambiguous. Her only concern is with her duty with destiny and her people. She forms her own thoughts and opinions, but there is a habit deep within her to always take heed of their words. When she prays, it’s often for the sake of others, but sometimes she catches herself doing it in worship for the Six. It has been something instilled in her since she was a child.
Sylva was hesitant to pass Lunafreya the mantle of Oracle. To “gift” her child heavyhearted burdens and the weight of the world seemed cruel. Luna resented her for this. The decision to keep it from her for so long made her feel weak; like in her mothers eyes she was not strong enough to wield such great powers. Upon being informed of the prophecy and what she is to do, her animosity towards her mother grew. She was but a child and had no clue where blame could be placed. The thought of leading her childhood friend to his death was inconceivable. It felt like a punishment. A curse for being fragile in the eyes of her own flesh and blood.
Even after all these years, she found it difficult to admit defeat and confess that her mother was right all along. Lunafreya was desperate to prove herself. Even with the weight piling up on her shoulders until they ached and the isolation she placed herself in, she didn’t want to say out loud how her mother spoke the honest truth in her childhood. Obstinate as always.
In order to distract herself, she shoved her head in the idea of a blue-sky future. Of light and peace and harmony. Of starry skies where the clouds could not dare touch.
In her manipulative aspects, while Lunafreya is fantastic with persuasion, she’s skeptical of using it even if it mean a necessary evil. It felt as if she was mirroring her captors in attitude. This does not sway her, though, and she will push the boundaries in order to complete her goals. If a martyr she must be then she will. A Martyr for herself. For her people. For the fate of the world. She will play this role as she sees fit.
Luna often contradicts herself and her ideals. She’s not made to make sense, but to do what she needs.
This isn’t a complete “essay” on how I wish to write her, but it’ll do for this post.
Bonus!!
Judgement.
upright: judgement, rebirth, inner calling and absolution
downturned: self doubt and refusal to self examine
please, if you have any questions ask me them!
