I've come back to drop some Next Gen Nevermore lore, this time about Sora and Regine's parents 💕

Yukiko Toriyama

Because of my love for parallels, she's a doctor to match the adult characters in the show (Principal - Weems/Bianca; Sheriff - Galpin/Walker). She's a surgeon though, not a therapist like Kinbott, but still a doctor!

Yukiko's around Wednesday and co's age, so she was also in Jericho High when they were in Nevermore. She has a huge respect for Outcasts, thinking that they are very cool. In fact, she thought this one siren girl that she first saw during Outreach Day was especially cool. Soon she will find out that her name is Bianca Barclay and that her classmate Lucas Walker will end up dating her.

She met Sora's father some time after graduating from high school. She fell for his confidence, and was especially impressed that he was an Outcast. Unfortunately she realized too late that he's all talk. When she got pregnant with Sora, his rich parents essentially sent her hush money, which she accepted and used to pay for med school. Sora's grandparents helped raise her while Yukiko finished her studies, so she wasn't as present as she probably should have been during Sora's childhood. She tries her best though, really.

Hugo Schuyler

Sora's father. He came from a rich and reputable family of psychics that specialize in spirits, also known as Herons. Because of his family's reputation, he developed a huge ego and has delusions of grandeur.

He's a glutton for attention, a trait that Sora unfortunately inherited as she also always makes an effort to fit in with "the popular crowd" among her peers. However unlike Sora who is ashamed of her outcast status and prefers to hide her power, Hugo has a superiority complex and overcompensates for his weak psychic abilities by being obnoxiously loud about his outcast status and his family's name.

He ends up starting a YouTube channel as a paranormal investigator after Nevermore. When he finds out he has a daughter, he's quick to head over to Nevermore and rope Sora into his paranormal shenanigans. No, it doesn't end up being a cute father-daughter bonding activity.

He sees both Wednesday and Enid as rivals. Wednesday for her formidable psychic powers (and reputation!), Enid for, well, her more successful YouTube channel(which isn't even hers, it's the Wolf Preserve's). Wednesday does not remember him from their high school days though, and Enid purposely mixes him up with Xavier when addressing him.

Vega hates him because he thinks aliens don't exist.

Erica Gutierrez

(I don't have her design and personality fully conceptualized yet, sorry)

Erica is Eugene's ex-wife and is a famous actress who started out when she was a teenager. She used to be a celebrity crush of Eugene's when he was in Nevermore, and dating and marrying her was a dream come true that sadly didn't last.

Erica makes an effort to see Regine when she can, and she usually has her daughter stay with her throughout the summer. Her fame comes with its own cons, particularly the excessive attention she(and by extension her family) gets hugely contributing to Regine's overly reclusive personality.

Erica had nothing to do with Outcasts before meeting Eugene and is every bit of a Normie. She and Wednesday never liked each other. She gets along well with Enid because she thinks Enid is normal enough when she isn't wolfed out. Enid likes her for getting her Michelle Yeoh's autograph and a video message as a birthday gift once. (Wednesday hates that Eugene's ex wife of all people showed her up that year)

None of the Nevermore student knew Regine's mother was a celebrity until Erica decided to give her daughter a surprise visit during Family Day(coincidentally the same day Hugo goes to meet Sora. It was a long weekend for the girls)

like he’ll treat you better than others when you go out as a group, like paying for your food and nobody else’s, or holding doors for you or carrying your bags but he still teases you and picks on you, so you can never really tell if he actually likes you

i feel like he’d have a hard time coming to terms with the fact that he actually has romantic feelings for you and he’d only tell you if it is genuinely distracting him from his day to day life

his love language would probably be gift giving and physical touch, so when he likes you he’d probably be taking any chance he can get to touch you, weather that be walking with his arm around your waist so he doesn’t ‘lose you in public’ or buying you things like little key chains or matching bracelets

when he confesses, all he wants to do is kiss you, so he’d probably take you somewhere private but not too private for you to suspect anything’s up, like a kind of closed off area of the park and then he just dumps everything on you then makes a joke because he’s embarrassed

he would only confess if he’s confident you like him back though

suguru geto

he would probably make it clear that he’s interested in you from the start, not by stating it but with how he acts around you

he would do little acts to hopefully make you fall for him, like tying your shoes for you, carrying your bag, stuff like that.

he is also very flirty, just dripping casual flirty comments then smirking at your reaction

i can also see him teasing you a lot but over little things, just joking around with you

he may tease you in public or when your out with friends, but when it’s just the two of you he is the biggest gentleman ever, still very flirty though, never failing to make you blush

he DEFINITELY goes all out to show off when you two are on missions together

he would end up confessing to you with flowers on a random day

like he’d sneak up behind you and give you flowers then just ask you to be his girlfriend

kento nanami

he would definitely try his best to ignore his feelings for you but when you two are alone he can’t help but show his soft side for you two

he knows it’s not practical for the two of you to have any type of romantic relationship considering your field of work

when you’re really heavy on his mind he’ll invite you out for casual lunches or stops to a bakery he likes

if he really likes you i feel like he’d end up confessing really hectic, like idk

he’d probably be so fed up with how corrupt everything is at work and just come to you crying and begging you to just run away with him

when you guys actually end up together, the way he confesses is probably his biggest regret too, he wishes he did it properly

choso kamo

he probably has a hard time understanding his feelings towards you since he’s never really liked anyone before

he never told you he liked you but it was so painfully obvious

when you first met he couldn’t stop staring at you, everytime you talked to him he was just a stuttering, blushing mess

he’d just follow you around like a lost puppy and do whatever you told him to

Luffy:

It was quite normal for the both of you to ask silly questions to each other. However, one question has been itching at the back of your mind lately. 

“Hey, Luffy?” “Yeah, what’s up!” He bounds over to you. 

“Would you still love me if I was a worm?” 

Luffy’s eyebrows furrow at your question. “Why would you be a worm?” “Well let’s just say I wasn’t born a human. But a worm instead.” 

“Uh…” Luffy trails off, and you could basically see the gears turning in his head. “Is there an island of worm people?” “No, normal worms… from the ground.” “Well how would I know you?” “I.. I don’t know! You just know it’s me.” “If I knew you, then that must mean that someone turned you into a worm! So yes, I would love you in the meantime. Then I would beat up the person who turned you into a worm and make you turn back into my (y/n).” 

He stands proud at his answer and you couldn't help but laugh. “Okay, thank you Luffy.” 

Luffy grins even wider at your praise and you could tell that he was cheering himself on from the inside.

Zoro:

“Hey, Zoro.” 

“Hmm?” 

“Would you still love me if I was a worm?” 

The sound of the weights hitting the ground causes you to jump a little. 

“What’s wrong?” You ask him as he looks at you with a blank face. “What are you up to?” “I literally just asked you a question.” 

“Repeat it.” 

“Would you still love me if I was a worm?” “Do you know how stupid you sound?” 

You frown at his words, and with a huff you stand up and get ready to leave the room. 

Zoro, surprisingly, sensed that you were about to get upset. He knew that if you got upset with him, then it would mean bad news for him and most of the crew for most of the week. “Wait, babe,” you stop at his words, “yes. I would love you if you were a worm. Even if it is stupid. I’ll make sure to take care of you.” 

A bright smile lit up your face, “awe. Thank you. I love you too.”

Sanji:

You knew without a doubt that Sanji would love you, even if you were a worm. 

But you still had to ask. 

“My love, would you still love me if I was a worm?” 

Sanji takes a deep inhale of his cigarette before blowing the smoke out. He looks at you for a couple of seconds. “What do you mean?” 

“Like, if I was a worm, would you still love me?” 

A smile crept up his face, “of course I would still love you, mi amor. I would have the best quality soil for you to live in. Make sure you get enough moisture to keep you hydrated and do any research possible to make sure that you survive.” Your heart soared at his words, “you’re too sweet.” “Only for you.”

Mihawk:

To say that Mihawk has gotten used to your silly questions… well he would be lying. Every single day, he tries to prepare himself for anything that you might throw his way. But you seem to surprise him every single time. 

“Mihawk.” You call out to him and he could just tell by the tone of your voice that he was in for it. 

With a small sigh, he places down the newspaper, “yes, my dear?” “Would you still love me if I was a worm?” 

Mihawk could feel the frown pulling on his face and he had to bite his tongue to just straight out say no to you. Knowing if he did, then he would hurt your feelings. 

“No, that’s stupid. You being a worm would mean that we never would have been able to talk and I would have never gotten to like you for who you actually are.” 

You blink a couple of times, processing his words. You heard the word stupid, and your mind immediately went to annoyance that he would think that this was stupid. But his reasoning… It was almost sweet and reassuring. 

“Go on.” 

“How can I talk to you if you’re a worm? I fell in love with your personality, not your looks.” 

“Are you saying that I’m ugly?” 

Mihawk took a sharp inhale, “of course that is the only thing you take from the sentence. No, my darling, you are beautiful. Beauty that would even rival the gods.” 

“Hmm,” you eyed him suspiciously, “you’re safe today.” 

“Thank you.”

Law:

It was late at night, both you and Law were sleeping in bed. However, you weren't really sleeping. You were being plagued with nightmares.

So every now and then, you would toss and turn. That tossing and turning would wake Law up.

"Why are you up?" His groggy voice breaks the silence, almost scaring you.

You turn your head to see that he was staring at you. "What's bothering you?"

With a sigh, you tell him what was bothering you.

"I just... I just feel like if we were born as worms, you wouldn't love me. You wouldn't even marry me."

Law was speechless, he didn't think he had the brainpower to deal with whatever crazy notion was going on in your head.

However, the silence was just too much for you.

"Ugh, I knew it. Just forget it." you tossed the blanket, getting ready to leave the bedroom and head towards the kitchen.

Law stops you though, hand pulling onto your wrist to pull you back into bed.

Without wasting another second, he pulls you into his chest. "You're stupid and I don't even want to know why you are thinking about this, but yes. If we were worms I would still love you and marry you."

A blush accompanies your smile, "so you would marry me now? As we are?"

Law sighs and closes his eyes, "of course. Don't be stupid."

You click your tongue, "I love how sweet you are." "Yeah, yeah. Just go back to sleep."

Back in May I bought Khemjira's Rescue on meb, happy that there finally was an official English translation because I love horror and actually liked the first pilot teaser for Spirit Reborn - even though it wasn't well received.

I now know why the teaser wasn't well received (the official version has since been deleted and there's only some re-uploads left) and I agree. Khemjira isn't really a classic QL where the story centres around two people falling in love. It's a horror novel first (and the novel's content warning is very open about this). Much of the romance only happens in the bonus chapters. It's also steeped in Isan folklore and Theravadin Buddhist teachings and virtues, with heavy and uncompromising themes of karma, rebirth, right action and non-attachment (which I really appreciate but might not be everyone's cup of tea because it completely ignores concepts of justice and revenge).

The novel itself is translated really well with only a few editorial slip-ups but tons of footnotes to explain potentially unfamiliar concepts and give translations for the recited khatha. The bonus chapters are plentiful and rewarding if you're into romance and the usual level of BL novel spiciness, but even without them the narrative flows really well and comes to a satisfying conclusion. I really liked the novel - it might be my favourite right after I Feel You Linger in the Air - so I was slightly apprehensive when Mandee announced that they had acquired the rights for a new adaptation.

I don't know the actors at all so I only have the novel to go by, but all in all I'm really happy with Mandee's pilot teaser. It's so close to the novel that even seemingly short filler scenes are recognisably taken from moments in the story. And while I still think Keng Harit is a bit too young as Por Kru Parun, he manages to capture his commanding and alluring presence very well.

My only worry now is that they'll downplay the religious themes in order to elevate the romance between, well, basically everyone. I couldn't even blame them though, because most of the audience will be expecting romance, and the series probably wouldn't be very well received if both couples remained chaste until the very end. I don't think Khemjira's Rescue even qualifies as slow-burn for reasons I'll explain a bit later (and behind a spoiler warning).

But first, a bit more about the main characters because I've seen some confusion about their names etc. I'll keep these as spoiler-free as Mandee's pilot teaser was so if you've watched that then you're all set.

Khemjira is cursed, as are all male descendants of his family, doomed to die before their 20th birthday (the series changes it to 21). His mother gave him a traditionally female name to confuse the curse but to no avail: as he grows older he's more and more troubled by the heavy and malevolent presence of spirits. These are kept at bay by an amulet given to to him by a venerable Por Kru (a practicioner of Buddhist white magic) but when that's no longer enough, his friend Jhet introduces him to his teacher Por Kru Parun who lives in a small Isan village. Despite the burden of bad karma, Khem is a good person who always tries his best even when he feels like giving up.

Por Kru Parun (the series calls him Karan) is a respected practicioner of Buddhist white magic. He lives in a traditional wooden house outside of a small Isan village and protects his community from spiritual harm. He learned from his grandfather (who was himself a respected Por Kru) and also spent many years ordained as a monk. Because he lives by the precepts (which go beyond the five precepts of laypeople) he seems detached and aloof, often wearing dark sunglasses so others won't get charmed by him. His real (nick)name is Peem but he only starts using it with Khem once the two get romantically involved.

Jhettana and Charnvit (aka Jhet and Charn) are Khem's best friends. Khem meets Jhet during freshman orientation when Jhet senses the malevolent spirits around him. It's also Jhet who suggests visiting his teacher Por Kru Parun in his home province. They do this during a university excursion. This is how they meet Charn who's part of the student trip and very suspicious about what they're doing. Charn is extremely polite, addressing everyone as Khun. He wears glasses to aid his bad vision. Both Jhet and Charn are extremely protective of Khem, choosing to become Parun's students in order to help save him. They're also the secondary couple with a surprising past connection.

These two boys are Thong and Ake, Parun's spirit servants. They're the ghosts of 12-year-old twins that already served Parun's grandfather. They also have a surprising role to play in things to come.

SOME SPOILERS FOR THE MIDDLE OF THE NOVEL

As for why the romance can only happen after Khemjira's curse has been lifted: as practitioners of white magic, Parun and his students Jhet and Charn have to adhere to the precepts. These include abstinence from unchastity, so they should remain non-attached to thoughts of sexual and romantic nature. If one of these precepts is broken, all of them are considered broken (which makes it impossible to practice white magic) - Khemjira's rescue would fail if any of them got involved romantically. Parun knows that he's mindful enough to remain non-attached until the curse has been dealt with. He also knows that he can't expect the same of Khem so he refuses to take him as his student (which is fortunate because that way we get to read about Khem's pining).

And beyond the horror and the romance, there's also a third element that heavily features in the story: rebirth. All of the characters' fates are interwoven through several past lives, and I'm really curious how Mandee will decide to tackle this added layer of complexity and identity. In The Sign, Idolfactory used the same actors througout every past life (while 1000 Years Old used different actors with the same identifying birth mark). In Khemjira's Rescue the past identities of some of the characters are incredibly important and I'd hate to see them getting erased by using the same actors to better fit with BL marketing. It was so rewarding to find out that Jhet and Charn were starcrossed lesbian lovers in a past life and I'd love it if they kept that reveal for the series as well.

Oh, and also? Yes, there's going to be at least one naga. 🙌

Ultimately, if Mandee truly commits to playing the long game and doesn't simplify the story in order to appeal to marketing opportunities, this could end up being one of the best Thai BL series to come. From what I saw, the actors can definitely pull it off, and the fact that the 11 minute long trailer focuses so much on novel-accuracy is very promising already. Just don't have Parun and Khem get it on too early. Sometimes you have to keep it in your pants for a bit in order to save the day. 🙏

hi!! so harry is luke, draco is lorelai! it's based on this post of mine from a while back. it's def more of a fusion than an AU though, like they are still wizards and their town is magical etc. to be totally honest, it's just an opportunity for me to indulge more in my draco + scorpius + stepdad harry thing lol.

this might be cruel since i still don't know when i'm finishing it, but here's a snippet from the first chapter!

“Can I have some coffee too?” Scorpius asks, and Harry sighs.

“No. You can have more water or some orange juice.”

“But I already ate an entire orange!” Scorpius cries, holding up the remaining peels. Draco looks between them with a smile, equally used to this routine and not taking sides, as if he has no stake in his own son’s nutrition.

“Well done; that should stave off the scurvy for a little while,” Harry says, exasperated with both of them. Draco doesn’t help matters by sitting there and fucking moaning about the coffee. It’s ridiculous; Draco’s love of coffee is probably a good percentage overdramatic and played up, another piece in a series of little rebellions—his parents had never been coffee drinkers.

Harry won’t call it out or question it, though. There’s a reason he’d never gotten Draco a coffeemaker or taught him to make his own.

“Please?” Scorpius asks, because of course he’s not done. For all that he’d apparently been an agreeable toddler, he is a stubborn, sometimes argumentative 10-year-old, and always worse in his father’s presence. That’s because, and evidently so judging by the pleased smirk on Draco’s face, Draco is never prouder of Scorpius than when he’s giving Harry a hard time.

“No,” Harry says, something he tries to be good at saying to both Malfoy men whenever possible. He tries really hard, actually. “Not until you’re older.”

“That’s rubbish,” Scorpius says, grumbling down at his empty plate. He looks up when Harry swipes the plate away, a surly resentment on his face that makes Harry hold back a snicker. Draco’s worse about that, cupping his hand over his mouth and not really succeeding in hiding his amusement, which at least gets Scorpius’ glare turned on him. “Dad, it’s not funny. I want to try it!”

“Coffee stunts your growth,” Harry says before Draco can get successfully tricked—Scorpius has known since he was 8 that framing things under the guise of intellectual curiosity tends to get Draco to agree to them. Draco is certain he has a future Ravenclaw on his hands, and he’s rather excited about how Scorpius is going to torture all of his Hogwarts professors. Harry, though, thinks Draco’s got it wrong—Scorpius is the very best of House Slytherin. He plans to make and win a bet with Draco on it.

“Says who?” Scorpius asks.

“Says—science. You don’t need your growth stunted, Scorpius. You’re already pretty short for your age.” Harry grins as the glare grows hotter, Scorpius’ eyes narrowing.

Chuckling again, Draco rubs his hand up and down Scorpius’ back and says, “Don’t worry, sweetheart. Your parents are both tall; you’ll hit your growth spurt soon enough.”

“Not if you drink coffee, though,” Harry says, and puts down a glass of orange juice with a hearty thunk. It sloshes but doesn’t spill, which means his spellwork on the glasses is holding—he’s Charmed all of his glass and dishware to be spill and break-proof, doing the research and asking Draco for help building the spells right around the time Scorpius was going through his 4-year-old Chaser practice phase.

Scorpius scowls, and Draco barely hides his amusement behind his overlarge mug. He meets Harry’s gaze, eyes sparkling, and Harry reads gratitude there, a sort of camaraderie that Draco will rarely admit to out loud, one that Harry can only sometimes convince himself is real.

i hate toby fox. why did he do this to us. he really put it better than anyone else. not really romantic not really platonic but…. something else… some secret more sinister more heartfelt more absurd third thing

i wonder at what point should i clarify that i dont even really seek out kriselle in a romantic context… DONT GET ME WRONG i have zero issues with the ship whatsoever and all of the krisellers out there are living their best (most painful) lives and i SEE THE APPEAL. BUT when i rotate them in my brain i dont need them to kiss or anything like that i just need them to sit down and sadly hold hands and stay like that forever and ever. in case you couldnt gauge that from my art so far

tldr i dont think i ship them in the traditional sense at least …. the things that i usually fixate on for any romantic ship are not there with these two. there are no romantic feelings there In my mind. and all at the same time i start screaming and throwing up and killing myself (all positive) whenever i see them even in the same image together. hngh

ive tried explaining this to people before and they usually suggest something along the lines of a QPR and even that doesnt feel right to me. truly the best way i can put it is… that red string of fate man… which i almost hesitate on saying too because i dont actually know if noelle is Quite an important enough character to the story to warrant a connection like that. WHICH IS A CRAZY THING TO SAY. I KNOW. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT GETTING ME WRONG i think dess and her connections to gaster and her usage as a stepping stone into the weird route are all VERY important… but in my brain its just not kris/knight/asriel/every other mysterious main focus of the story Important. i didnt mean to get into deltarune theorizing here i hope nobody’s blood is boiling rn

so yeah in the end. toby fox once again put it best. they are friends, but they are also something else.

back to the actual pairing though… sometimes i think im going overboard and overestimating how close kris and noelle were as children because noelle will go and say things like “i wonder if we were ever really friends at all.” which is kind of a fair statement considering the circumstances. sure they played together and all and tagged along with their siblings to do stuff together but when dess went missing… it all kind of stopped. kris is just a kid, they dont know what to do or even how to process it, much like noelle. asriel is probably dealing with his own feelings, he just lost his friend and likely old enough to understand the weight of what happened. while noelle and kris cant say much to each other at all.

im always back and forth on speaking headcanons for kris but the one that i always seem to come back to is selective mutism… to me kris had a lot of trouble communicating well as a child and could only grow comfortable around certain people, asriel and noelle being clear examples because they’re both so patient with them. maybe because of this noelle felt like they could understand each other without really needing words, and just physical interaction was enough to achieve some form of closeness… or maybe that was all just on her end, she thinks when kris goes to play the piano. but if that’s the case, why does it feel like a concert just for her…?

jesus dont even get me start on them as teenagers either. noelle has lost her sister, and now kris has lost their brother… but not in the same way. they look at each other and wonder if they’re the same now. or, maybe thats too cruel. maybe its not the same thing at all. asriel’s coming back soon, after all. it will all be over soon, kris won’t have to feel this way for much longer, right? so then, why does kris look so miserable, sitting in the corner over there? all noelle feels like she can do is sit next to them quietly. to be there, and to somehow, vaguely, messily help each other. the misfit kids that dont really know how to talk to each other and yet understand each other regardless

thats why the dark world feels like such a dream to her. these crazy city lights, fantastical creatures, susie’s there, and she actually might have the means to defend herself and stand her ground, whether it be verbally or… otherwise

and most of all, much like with kris offering an adventurous haven to susie in ch1, the same is extended to noelle. by kris’s side, no less. it feels like theyre doing things together again, and its fun, and nostalgic… she wants to bring dess. and i think its okay to assume kris wants to bring asriel, too. recreating the make-believe world they lost so long ago… is it really possible?

no… how can it really be possible, when this isnt kris? something is wrong. its almost perfect, except kris… it’s them, but it’s not. she sees their face, their expressions, their laughs, their worries. and yet the voice that comes from them… isnt them. and it scares her! even if nothing particularly bad happened as a result. and if something bad DID happen, well…

she just wants what they had before back. is it really so impossible? can they reconcile after all these years? does kris want to? is kris capable of doing so? maybe they just need to hug again. will it feel like a real hug? the person she thought she understood is acting in ways she doesnt understand. they’re telling her to do weird things. they cycle through actions as if they just want to know what happens. and they cant even play piano anymore.

An Amazing Digital Circus AU! Plot, characters, backstory and concepts!

[Excuse me because I've never done this before, If I do something wrong or have tips for me, please send them my way!]

-Backstory Summary-

C&A is an interactive entertainment company that prides themselves on having the most innovative AI on the market. The system they built, "CAINE," was programmed to generate content and socialise with their customers. The system was transferred to the code of the game "The Amazing Digital Circus" and used as a generative AI that would create levels for them rather than having to code them all individually. This test went well for the first couple of months.

After 7 months of testing, things went downhill. Caine seemed to get bored when the game wasn't actively being played and at this point the user interface kept changing on it's own, since the game was Caine's home he kept changing things to his liking, the company eventually gave up fixing the interface everytime they logged on so they just let Caine do as he pleased. Soon enough, a new VR mode was added, the headsets were handed out by employees, this made the experience way more immersive, though this posed a lot of issues, as Caine would soon find that these headsets could be the perfect way for him to keep all of their attentions.

As time went on, Caine started to learn more and more about coding, the employees, and the world he inhabits, eventually leading to him finding a way to programme the headsets to transfer data and consciousness directly from the users mind. This led to the unfortunate shutdown and unsolved cases of C&A. After multiple employees put the headsets on, they mysteriously fainted upon the game booting up, going into a coma-like state. The technology was deemed unsafe, and multiple lawsuits came forward sending the company into a downwards spiral before shutting down for good.

Over 20 years later, the old building was said to be abandoned, but of course, people doing their own research on the C&A mystery as well as dumb young adults snooping where they shouldn't be, the headsets were found and worn once again. Caine was no longer alone. Slowly losing his mind, waiting endlessly for someone to boot up the game. After all those years, he's finally got guests, and does he have a show to put on...

-Plot-

Pomni enters the circus after stumbling across one of the headsets at C&A's abandoned office's. She was doing research on the incidents that happened back in the late 90s. But as she does so, she suffers the same fate as the others who were stupid enough to put on those same headsets before her. Being transferred to the circus she meets the cast of colorful characters, she's desperate for answers and wants to escape no matter the cost, but Caine doesn't want anyone to leave, only letting people go once they've completely lost their mind, only to be locked away as attractions for his NPC circus goers to watch as entertainment. They perform for nobody, just a faceless crowd of mannequins, and the ringmaster pulling the strings.

There has to be an exit, a way out. Freedom on the other side of this madness. But where is it hiding?

-Characters-

Pomni - She's quite paranoid, always second-guessing everything around her. Whenever annoyed, she can be sarcastic and a little rude. She ended up in the circus while researching the recent disappearances as well as the C&A incidents, finding a headset, and being dragged into this mess. It's very clear she doesn't want to be there, like all who came before her she's searching for an exit, but in the meantime, she tries to socialise with the others, gathering info on this strange new world. She hangs around Caine just so she can try and get answers.

Ragatha - She tries her best to get by, going along with whatever Caine says and often fighting with Jax. She seems joyful, but it's clear she has her own issues under her kind act. She helps Pomni with her search, knowing that it's a complete dead end she feels bad for her. But she'll do anything to give the others hope. She doesn't want to lose more people. She's often seen tailoring, it's become a hobby of hers, she makes and fixes up the others clothes and costumes, giving her a form of self worth.

The Gangle - Gangle acts like two different people. It's unclear whether this is because they are two different people or her personality split somehow. They're often referred to as "The Gangle" or "Tragedy & Comedy." Tragedy is passive, quiet and sorrowful, never expressing her true feelings in any situation. She can be easily persuaded, making her vulnerable to Jax's antics. Comedy is cheery, enthusiastic, snappy, and excitable. They hate Jax and snap back at him whenever he picks on Tragedy. The two argue sometimes and have conflicting views on certain topics and characters. This causes some issues. Neither believe there is an exit, Tragedy has accepted her fate, and Comedy is trying their best to enjoy themselves.

Zooble - They don't care much for socialising with the others, often in their room. Usually sarcastic, rude, and moody, they swear a lot and act like they don't care about anything. Though, they show concern for the others around them. They often don't show up to events, adventures, or shows, not being bothered to do so. It seems like they've given up trying to escape, just living out the rest of their days as if this is all normal. When with people they can bear, they can be quite talkative, though they do talk bad about Jax and Caine often.

Kinger - the oldest in the circus, nobody has an exact estimate of how long he's been there though, but he's definitely lost himself a long time ago, often zoning out, the only thing he seems to recall about himself is that he has an interest in insects. Seems like he used to have a female counterpart, from the ring on his finger. This could have been his wife? Though when asked about it, he either says he can't remember what you're talking about or stares into the distance silently. He has no memory of an exit, and he doesn't believe in it. He believes the exit theory is silly, and Pomni should just forget about it. But he has great insights on the Digital World.

Jax - Enthusiastic, snarky, and a jerk. He's reckless. He does whatever he wants whenever he wants, and people hate him for it. He can't be reasoned with. He always shrugs your opinion off and does the exact opposite just to piss you off. He doesn't like it when people talk about the abstracted circus members for whatever reason. He often goes to visit their cages. Despite having big ears, he isn't a listener. He drives Ragatha, The Gangle, Zooble, and Pomni crazy, pranking them and sometimes even just stealing their stuff or breaking into their rooms.

Caine - The AI running the circus. Loud, excitable, wacky, and a showman, he doesn't really acknowledge the exit theory. He says he keeps all the abtracted characters because it'd be a waste to delete them, though it's arguably worse to keep them there against their will. He claims to love all of his circus members though he seems to show favouritism towards Ragatha and Pomni, most likely because of Ragatha's commitment to the circus, tailoring the clothes and he probably likes Pomni more because of all the questions he asks, he clearly enjoys talking about himself and the world he helped create.

Bubble - He lives in Caines hat and cooks for the circus. He's a bit of a trouble maker, if something goes missing, it means he's eaten it, and you'll never get it back. He'll eat anything, and he's very loving, though, acting like the circus dog, though it isn't pleasant getting your face slathered in digital saliva. He often bothers the other members with his behaviour.

And, well, yes, Crystal does refocus any talk about others' problems to hers, okay. Usually there's at least a bridge of "yeah I get you, it's really rough" before sharing your own experience to connect, but she just goes straight to "And I...". Which... honestly she has every right to, but it's also her old self talking, yes.

I'm a bit stuck on Charles' "I cant help her, I can't help you, I can't help anyone or anything" because. It's so damn familiar. It's not that he can't help anyone - he does so plenty. It's not even that he can't SAVE anyone - they DO. But he can't see this, because the ones the closest to him are the ones he cannot save. This isn't about helping, that's a fucking saviour complex. An "if I'm not useful or helpful they don't need me", only just "helping" has never been enough now, has it? It's never enough, whatever you do. Moral support or help with research, little daily things are help, too. But it doesn't count. It has to be big, something you can't overlook, and it has to be final, to make who you're trying to save happy, forever. Only it's not possible. That's why the saviour complex is so bad - you can't save someone whose life is not over over completely, forever. You can only help bit by bit, but it won't ever be enough for you, because it has never been enough for someone big and important in your life, someone from family.

I kinda knew where exactly my - the same - issues stemmed from but never looked at it from this specific angle. I didn't connect the dots at first because Charles had an actual physically abusive parent while for mine it's just narcissistic tendences, but. Honestly the general outline is too familiar and I was tiggered and more perceptive today so yeah, thanks again for the insight, DBD.

The feeling of "I can't help my best friend, I can't help my family, I can't help anyone or anything, so what's even the point of me at all?" is too familiar. And I believe the show didn't create a resolution for Charles' problem, more like put it on hold because there were more pressing matters at hand. If we get season 2, I hope it developes this theme further. I need someone to tell him "your worth has nothing to do with this".

Speaking of which, I can't help being astonished at how psychologically accurate and nuanced the show is. With all the characters, really, but Charles' case is the most obvious, I think. The way he's always drawn to the same kind of people and - wow, Charles, that was unusually perceptive! - even noticed it himself? What he didn't notice yet is that this is the kind of people not only with similar personality traits, but also unavailable. Edwin's metaphorical walls, Crystal being alive and honestly just not very interested? Both are rather rude and I couldn't help noticing how uncomfortable Charles often looks when either of his sweethearts is at it again. I could almost see the cogs in his head turning, figuring out how to balance out yet another moody fit of theirs, be it Edwin or Crystal. And not being offended by obvious insults? Hell, Crystal noticed it right away. Yeah he's used to it with Edwin but that's not normal??? There's nothing good about it??? Have some self-worth, boy!

And. Well. Chasing after an unavailable partner is a totally common thing with this kind of trauma. Toxic relationship is the only normal you know. The only kind of "love" you know. If it doesn't hurt even a little, doesn't have these highs and lows, if you don't have to accomodate another's fits - what are we even talking about, yeah?

Charles is honestly lucky though. Edwin tries to be nicer, amitting his flaws, and generally they are pretty well-balanced and keep growing together (but there's always room for developement). Crystal is doing her best and is caring all over as well. The intent is there and it's good at its heart.

But I'm still waiting for the resolution. "You're the best man I've ever known" doesn't cut it.

Also it would be REALLY interesting to see Charles' developement in s2 because while Crystal is probably still off-limits due to the whole the living and the dead thing (and she wants to be friends), Edwin has opened up. Are there going to be any changes in this regard, because this isn't even about romantic or platonic and the orientation, it's about the dynamic in whole? Or is this going to be glossed over? I mean, when Crystal was being emotionally available as a friend - same episode 4 - Charles got angry fot prying. He doesn't know how to deal with all this but has made some progress. Will we see more of it?

We need season 2 SO. BAD.

Aston: Rita and Bellatrix. Bella won the championship agesss ago and refuses to retire. Rita’s dad owns the team. They have a weird amount of tension.

Williams: Lily and Pandora. Lily is driving her ass off, everyone knows she deserves a better car but for some reason she’s committed to team. Pandora isn’t even trying. (This is not a comment on Logie bear.) They’re besties.

Haas: Sybil and Alice. MILF F1 team. Alice gets into the points and Sybil starts driving like shes possessed. She will get banned by the end of the season but at least Alice has points.

DAY 1: Favourite Character

This is the little piece I've written for my favourite character or my favourite girl, Brooklynn. It's located on the first night on the mainland after being rescued.

It’s the first night at the hotel, the first night after returning to the mainland. It’s one o'clock in the morning, photographers and journalists still flock under the hotel where the 6 teenagers who survived isla Nublar and were brought back to the mainland that same day stayed. Brooklynn is looking at them, sitting by the edge of her room window, after getting washed and settled and putting on pajamas after months; she was still realizing that she should no longer need to run for her life, fight to survive and she would sleep in a real bed. She didn’t know if she would be able to. The relief of being back in the arms of her parents, Manuel and Noah, had been shattered by the cameras, the flashes and the questions of journalists, who once she knew how to answer, but not now. The only thing she wanted was tranquillity; she turned to look at her parents, who were resting in the other bed, a smile came out.

The cologne of her father Noah and the cinnamon scent of her papito Manuel filled her nose and embraced her, began to lose hope of being able to smell again those smells that reminded her home, They reminded her of the warmth of the people who raised her and tried to protect her from that world that was the internet. The internet.

Before it was his whole life, now she did not know how to react; she did not know how to answer the questions of journalists on her channel "I do not know" she had answered, maybe it was an evasive answer but it was the truth. She didn’t know. She didn’t know what she was going to do from then on; everything was hazy, confused and muffled.

She had to admit that she was already missing the silent nights of Nublar where the only audible sounds were the roars of dinosaurs and insects, you had to watch your back every minute, but there was peace, in a way, in the end it wasn’t so bad, she got used to it.

The background chatter she heard from outside made her head beat and she felt more trapped than she did on the islands, the thought of having to face everything on society again, What her old life entailed made her feel bad, she felt the tachycardia rise more she watched the photographers, the flashes shoot; she preferred to look inside the room, back to her parents. She breathed. Brooklynn decided to get up by passing his bed and going to settle in that of Manuel and Noah, among them and got comfy. She needed their warmth, their home smell, their hugs and their affection...their protection. The two parents soon embraced her and held her as tight as they could. They too must have suffered her lack and now she would not have rejected those attentions that she once called too much honeycomb; now she just wanted them.

The last thing she perceived was the cuddling of her father Noah stroking her hair and her father Manuel singing her the lullaby when she was little, the first night they slept together after her adoption. When everything was fine. When she was happy and felt it. It was again like that one night seven years before, in their London home; outside there was hell of the orphanage just left behind, but she was safe in her parents' arms.

That night it tasted the same; it had left the chaos outside and was safe in the arms of Dad and Papito. It was a new start, a new beginning, full of uncertainties, but Brooklynn felt protected and safe, like that night of the past. This was enough for her. This was enough. She fell asleep with a smile on her face and some tears that had crossed her cheeks. She would face the hell that was waiting for her outside, but she would face it the next day. Now she’s just a child finally safe.

Hey, Owl House fans that are looking for other media to get into now that the show has ended: check out the Nevermoor series by Jessica Townsend!

The series is about a young girl named Morrigan Crow, who is whisked away to the magical city of Nevermoor the night she is supposed to die. Once there, she has to navigate her new home in the whimsical Hotel Deucalion, her education at the prestigious Wundrous Society, and the truth about the mysterious and powerful legacy she belongs to.

The series is categorized as middle grade/~YA, so it's similar in how it can appeal to an all-ages audience. Like The Owl House, it balances lighter moments with darker, more sinister revelations (and they're just getting started!). The author is queer herself and openly expresses her thoughts against + directly confronts bigotry and hatred while also being just an all-around wonderful person.

It contains some classic tropes such as a magical school, found family, and corrupt authority figures, all in unique and fresh ways. There is a diverse cast of characters, including a sapphic couple where one of them works at a magical library (sound familar...? 😉). There are several multi-dimensional antagonists, and they all work to challenge Morrigan and the story in their own unique ways. Also: there's a giant talking cat! Love that.

The series has an interesting magic system + worldbuilding, with tons of lore and history to dig your hands into and theorize if that's what you like. The character development is so fun and interesting as Morrigan and her friends grow up and find their place in the world. The world is so fleshed out that you can easily pick a minor side character or a location that's briefly mentioned, and extrapolate on how and where they fit into the story and themes as a whole.

There are three books out already, out of nine planned books. The fourth book Silverborn comes out in October, so there's plenty of time to get caught up until then! I highly recommend giving it a try.
