#there is literally no way they didn't have a name for Evelyn at this point bc they already had a final design for her character.

Hmm... it's interesting how they made Luz wear a witch's cloak in Hunting Palisman - the episode where she introduces Flapjack to Hunter. This is also the episode where Hunter defies Belos by choosing Luz over him. He goes back to his palace empty-handed and he doesn't hand over Flapjack to Belos. Unbeknownst to Hunter, he is following Caleb's footsteps.
But then, in Hollow Mind, they made the choice to have Luz not wear her witches cloak - instead they made Luz wear a jacket with a giant "E" on it. They could have given Luz a completely different outfit like they did in Hunting Palisman. But they don't... they make her wear this specific jacket...
...They also make Hunter wear Caleb's symbol in Hollow Mind... an episode where Luz and Hunter are trapped in Philip's mind... where we can see paintings of the two most important characters in Philip's life - his brother and a witch from another world.
But I'm sure this is all unintentional.
You know, like this is:
Tumblr media
oh, nbd, just a painting being paralleled with the scene happening right before our eyes
here's a more high def image of the painting
Tumblr media
Oh, hmm, okay, this is a painting of Caleb standing next to a witch with short dark brown hair and who just so happens to be a witch from another world. Both of them are startled by Philip...
Hunter, the Grimwalker who looks the most like Caleb, is standing next to someone who ALSO just so happens to be a witch from another world with short dark brown hair... both are startled by Philip's monster form...
Hmm, must be unintentional I guess.
there's also this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mhm, okay, I see... I see, very interesting. Here we have Caleb being lead away from Philip by a witch from another world after the brother's have a fall out. This fall out marks the point of no return for them, as Philip later kills Caleb out of anger.
Hunter and Philip's relationship completely deteriorates because of Luz, which leads to Philip's decision to kill Hunter. She shows Hunter Belos' true nature and she offers Hunter sanctuary at The Owl House right after he finds out Belos has been lying to him his whole life... Luz saves Hunter's life and changes it forever.
Hmmm... very interesting
But I'm sure this is unintentional [I'm being sarcastic]

EVELYN is that you?! For the Straights, and gays who have never had the soul crushing pleasure of reading (and those who have ;) “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo”, Allow me to elaborate ⬇️
Tumblr media
To be clear: Evelyn Hugo Marry’s seven separate men in order to cultivate her Hollywood image, at the expense of her true love interest and sexuality. Aka lavender marriages, aka bearding. She was bi however we barely have one actual male love interest for her..
Tumblr media
let’s meander some of the lovely connections our blonde woman-who-is-attending-an-award-show-with-a-woman-on-her-arm-to-✨dispell✨-the-gay-rumors has with the ever amazing Evelyn Hugo 😍
Green is quotes from the book, anything else is Taylor’s lyrics 💗
"It shouldn't be wrong, to love you. How can it be wrong?"
They say I did something bad / Then why's it feel so good?
I love you ain’t that the worst thing you ever heard?
Is Evelyn Hugo going to tell me just enough to keep me on the edge of my seat but never enough to truly reveal anything?
What a Mastermind wouldn’t you say?
I did it because I want to climb the ladder as high as I possibly can. I did it because I want my name, the name my father gave me, in big, bold letters one day. This is my chance.
He wanted a bride, I was making my own name
People think that intimacy is about sex. But intimacy is about truth.
I want to wear his initial / On a chain 'round my neck, chain 'round my neck / Not because he owns me / But 'cause he really knows me / Which is more than they can say
Celia was starting to get goose bumps, so I suggested we go back into the living room, where it was warmer. The desert winds had swooped in and turned this June night into a chilly one. When I started to get cold, too, I asked her if she knew how to make a fire.
He built a fire just to keep me warm
Wine went all over her white shirt.
The burgundy on my T-shirt when you splashed your wine into me
I was in emerald green again.
Tumblr media
“Evelyn, who was your great love? You can tell me." "Celia St. James.”
I just had to put this in here- no need whatsoever but 😍
Don was off somewhere else, leaving me before I could leave him. Instead, right on my doorstep, was Celia St. James.
Stand there like a ghost / Shaking come the rain, rain / She'll open up the door / And say, are you insane, -ane?
🤭And that's how it works / That's how you get the girl🤷‍♀️
She literally told you-I anyway
You wonder what it must be like to be a man, to be so confident that the final say is yours.
Tumblr media
A little side note: The way in which she naturally uses those two fingers is very audacious to me.. but that’s a topic for another time…
I’d risen from ashes more than once by that point. But I didn't want to have to do it again.
And I know I make the same mistakes every time
I'm getting tired even for a phoenix / Always risin' from the ashes / Mendin' all her gashes / You might just have dealt the final blow
"Everyone's a pawn.”
Checkmate, I couldn't lose
One day I'll watch as you're leaving / 'Cause you got tired of my scheming
The black beaded dress I wore that night. Two slits on either side of the skirt went up to my mid-thigh. I loved that dress. (For the nomination for a film called Cornelia Sunset, might I add…)
Tumblr media
And what I wanted was to move to the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
Where were the original Polaroids for 1989 shot? Oh in manhattan…
Where does Taylor live? In New York… maybe not manhattan… but you get the point..
Welcome to New York, Taylor wrote this song specifically about moving there, and the very diverse people there…
In the pursuit of a great cause, I think people can be of service in a number of different ways. I always felt that my way was to make a lot of money and then channel it to the groups that needed it. It's a bit self-serving, that logic. I know that. But because of who I was, because of the sacrifices I made to hide parts of myself, I was able to give more money than most people ever see in their entire lifetime. I am proud of that.
Tumblr media
"Evelyn, you are not capable of giving it up. And you never will be. And it will be the tragedy of my life that I cannot love you enough to make you mine. That you cannot be loved enough to be anyone's.”
"Do something, babe, say something" (say something) / "Lose something, babe, risk something" (you're losin' me) / "Choose something, babe, I got nothing (got nothing) / To believe / Unless you're choosin' me"
Which is about the cruelest thing you can do to someone you love, give them just enough good to make them stick through a hell of a lot of bad.
You know there's many different ways that you can kill the one you love / The slowest way is never loving them enough
Tumblr media
And let me just say bring a woman who promised to be Taylor’s “invisible bride any day”, to an award show after that homophobic piece of 🔥🗑️ NYT article calling her only straight…
Tumblr media
Not to mention her name starts with a K..
Look how happy tree is, because this Evelyn Hugo won’t be hidden forever 💚🤍

seeing that family tree, i just need to know ALL about Eris' side of the family!
tell us as much as you can about her parents, her step-dad, her half-sister and her grandparents, please! \o/
literally kissing you for letting me talk about them!! I'm so grateful !! finna cry!! Thank you rahh!! I wanted to draw them all again, but I'm too tired with the webtoon (the next episode has 47 panels so that's a lot), so I'll just use the portraits I did of them!
Let's start with the OG!!! Grandpa!!
Tumblr media
For fun I made a grandpa design before, and then got the idea to eventually do a prequel story for him! I don't know if I'll ever do it, so I guess I can talk about it here!
Tumblr media
Grandpa doesn't have a canon name, but he lived in Pelican Town since he was born. He was the son of a doctor, and his childhood friend is Evelyn. After George moved to the valley, they become besties!! The old farmer in town is somewhat secluded, and has no family, but Evelyn happened to sometimes bring him food and take care of him, so one day Grandpa joins her. He decides he doesn't want to take on his fathers' legacy, and instead buy the farm from the old man. So int his story, the farm has only been in Eris family since grandpa, and well then kinda died with him until Eris comes to the valley. He has a younger sister, who may or may not take over the clinic instead (even if their father was against it at first, since they are v old-fashioned,,)
You can find some designs of other younger versions of npc here!!
Tumblr media
Grandpa has one son! I don't think I'll give him any siblings, but yippie Elias! He looks a lot like Eris, and it's on purpose for Eris to strongly take after him instead of her mother.
Tumblr media
He used to be a troubled youth, who, like his own father, didn't want to take on his fathers' legacy. So it's kind of a repeating cycle? He moved to the city v early on, didn't like living out in the valley. Maybe he's a bit like Sebastian in that sense? He mellows out a lot though and is a very gentle man. He and Ingrid/Eris Mom are both very laid back when it comes to raising their kids too. Mostly too busy with work, but it gives both girls an easy lifestyle!
Tumblr media
With Ingrid, I happened to somehow mirror Robins story in a way, even though a lot less dark (at least in my version of Robins story)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ingrid also had her first child very early on in life, somewhere in her early 20's. I'm still not sure if she necessarily got married to Marissa's/her first daughter's father, but they separated pretty quickly and their custody battle went fine? Marissa isn't very close to her father, but they aren't necessarily on bad terms. Ingrid is very independent, and is the main bread winner. She's also 4 years older than Elias and taller than him. (She still wears heels around him, though.)
Tumblr media
Marissa is 8 years older than Eris, but they are semi-close! She's not very good at showing her feelings, but she cares a lot for her sister in her own way. When they were younger, and their parents often weren't home, Marissa took Eris to restaurants, so they could have dinner together. So she also helped raise Eris a lot.
Tumblr media
She also often did Eris hair and picks her clothes! She might be so famous at this point, that she might appear in my webtoon soon, he-he! Marissa is like her mother, very independent and focused on her goals. She also has a very sharp tongue, in the sense that she says what she thinks.
Tumblr media
And that's everyone, I think!! Thank you again for letting me talk about them that means so much to me rahh!!!

despite all the talk about the hints off backstory with Evelyn, Caleb and Belos i wonder if there was ever a set planned to begin with. as we didnt know much of Belos till "Hollow Minds" and that was AFTER the cancellation. As belos had only appear at the end of season 1, wasn't mentioned that much beforehand. and wasn't a threat during 2a as he barely appears.... Actually, ya wonder if there was a long-term plan in terms of story give how characters and plot-points were handled
I think there was a set plan in place because one of the writers talked about how difficult it was to write for Belos because they had to keep his character and motivations in the background before the big reveal in Hollow Mind. Season 2A spent a chunk of its time on teasing who Philip Wittebane was and they didn't want to spoil it too early. Although tbh, I knew Philip and Belos were going to be the same person as soon as I heard Philip's British accent, because 1. there was no way there were going to introduce a new character without some connection to the current characters and 2. Belos is literally the only other character with a British accent, so process of elimination.
Also, they introduced the Wittebane brothers with Jacob Hopkins in the human world and just kept adding to the lore. First we see the portraits in HM, the reveal of what a grimwalker is, pretty much all of Belos' scenes in King's Tide (especially when Gus looks into Belos' memories and we see Caleb clearly for the first time, and oh yeah, Belos screams out his name when he sees Flapjack), we get the Wittebane story in Masha's hayride, and Belos freakin' hallucinates Caleb staring down at him accusingly! All of this is spread out and suggests that the crew had this planned for awhile and it wasn't haphazardly crammed in at the last minute.
I think the problem is that they waited too long to play their hand, the cancellation came, and we got the condensed version of the Wittebane story because the show had other plot lines to wrap up and they also shoved in their shiny new toy (the Collector) because they literally said "screw it" and they needed to resolve his story as well.
It's a damn shame because the Wittebanes form the literal foundation to the story, without them, the plot doesn't happen. So they should have spent more time on them instead of dragging out the "Belos is Philip" reveal and making the Collector a kinda-sorta-antagonist who got the world's fastest "redemption arc."
And we never even got to see Evelyn's face. 😔

Mary Bonnet - ms bonnet you deserve to have it laid down So right. i know you have free real estate guy but i think one of your widows support group ladies or me could do it better
Oluwande Boodhari - every time he comes onscreen i legally have to say "oluuuuuuu" while making heart eyes. 11/10 would be a very attentive lover
Roach - absolutely insane little guy, my best friend. his query of "how does he kiss?" re: the hook-headed man tells me that he's a romantic at heart.
Frenchie - everyone loves a musician who schemes and steals fancy suits during a raid. would entertain me with theories about crystals and demons. <3
Evelyn Higgens - i couldn't handle her but i wish i could
Nana - i'm not sure if it's blasphemous to include a nun on a fuckability list but if any nun fucks, it's this one.

Wee John Feeney - he would be so gentle and i love his star face tattoos. interior design king, excellent hair
Black Pete - we stan a guy whose love language is gifts. im gonna need him to show some loyalty, though
Nathaniel Buttons - i think buttons doesn't know what sex is. you know the elbow sex thing in rocky horror? that's his bag
The Swede - the whole teeth-coming-out thing really disturbed me on a primal level. this is nothing against him personally, our little nordic angel
[the point of unfuckability, all others ranked only for completion's sake]
19. Alfeo de la Vaca - good taste in citrus, bad oral hygiene. 1/10 would not recommend to a friend 20. Doug - per my girlfriend: "he's not so much rancid as he is utterly sexless". i think this is true even tho canonically he treats mary right. 21. Izzy Hands - when i initially conceived of this list, izzy was at the bottom, but somehow there are characters more rancid than he is. izzyfuckers DO NOT INTERACT this racist little rat man can choke but not in a way that he would like 22. Antoinette / Gabriel - i do love kristen schaal but. yuck 23. Badminton twins - would probably find some way of accidentally killing themselves and that just sounds like a lot of hassle. 24. King George - i think it just goes to show how bad jack and geraldo are that i'm putting them below a literal british monarch. but. this man is disgusting. 25. Calico Jack - he's never thought about another person's desires in his life. probably smells like a distillery and never learns your name. fuckable only for someone with intense self-loathing 26. Geraldo - you know how people talk about getting the ick? this man is one huge ick. i thought this even before i found out fred armisten didn't treat natasha lyonne like the queen she is. i would rather fling myself from the cliffs of dover than even consider touching this man

On kid Philip
When I watched Watching and Dreaming and heard Papa Titan deliver “You assume Belos's goal comes from a genuine place. But that man doesn't care about about anything but his need to be the hero in his own delusion. And because of that, he fears what he can't control.” it sat strangely with me because I didn't see Belos’s actions as delusional. Fear-based, yes. Controlling, absolutely, but he knows what he’s doing and acts with learned purpose.
It’s especially interesting now that the finale has spawned cumulative takes about antagonist (ir)redeemability. Belos by the end is literally the Biggest Bad, but unlike the other villains in the show, we get to see when and how he got to his irredeemable state: as a child he is indoctrinated and fails to grow up and out of the value systems given to him. (Not very 1 Corinthians 13:11 of him.) He fails to stop playing pretend.
What did child Belos/Philip* learn?
(*aside, as a trans person I find it fascinating to see Luz et al broadly refuse to call him Philip once they learn he and Belos are one and the same, even though he specifically asks to be called such, except when coerced (e.g. King’s Tide.) In his case, I read it more as Philip being the past human and Belos being the present monster, which is how e.g. the wiki handles it, but that’s also a weird trans reading given e.g. Susan Stryker’s writings on trans as monster, even if they are very 90s and not about the year 2008.)
The first part of Masha’s explanation of Gravesfield Lore as remembered by the Human Realm is a good primer: “The year is 1613. Two orphaned brothers arrive in Gravesfield. Their names? Philip and Caleb. Caleb did his best to take care of his younger brother. They tried to fit in with this town, and its unsavory practices. They became witch-hunters!” (Thanks to Them.)
This aligns with Philip’s experiences as depicted in mindscape paintings in Hollow Mind. (Bless Rebecca Rose for these tweets with clean versions.) Adults in Gravesfield really were out there with torches and pitchforks hunting witches, so Caleb plays a pretend version with Philip. [This is a point where distinguishing pretend versus delusion could be helpful - their pretend is still based in reality, as they are imitating adults.] Caleb’s intent is not clear - is this to comfort Philip against the violence around them? Is this because Caleb wanted to fit in to avoid being further outcast in the town? We don’t get to know. Caleb isn’t an adult at this point and likely acceding to social pressure more than having any genuine belief.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Regardless of intent, the result of this pretend is that Philip is indoctrinated into Gravesfield’s ways and learns that hunting witches is a moral act. He never unlearns this. The danger of not realizing the finite application of pretend is a theme we get with the other child characters in the show, a major theme for King (literally his intro in A Lying Witch and a Warden, elaborated on in Echoes of the Past, then subverted by Edge of the World) that he tries to teach the Collector in For the Future: “K: Think about what you're doing to these people! / C: You are so BO-RING! I'm just playing pretend! / K: Even playing pretend has consequences.” So child Philip is thematically marked to have a bad time if he doesn’t learn to see the world as it is. [Here as well, it’s tough to claim that pretend inherently is delusion when the show subverts itself - King is led to believe he was being deluded but it is in fact true, as with the witch hunting above.]
Later, Caleb and Philip join the Gravesfield populace in real witch hunting, and we can return to Masha’s summary of what happened next: “Local lore suggests that the Brothers Wittebane met a real witch from another world! Her name was Evelyn. And the older brother was spirited away. She dazzled him with magic and visions of a strange yet beautiful place. They used a secret code to travel between worlds. Philip set off to save his brother and bring the witch to justice.” (Thanks to Them.)
While Masha (who shares a VA with Azula) promptly Ember Island Playerses this as “Sounds like big bro got a hot witch girlfriend and little bro got upset” for comedic effect, her diction is kinder towards Philip, and I think rightfully so. Based on his upbringing and experience, Philip genuinely believes that Evelyn should be hunted and that Caleb is in danger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Does Philip know that what he’s doing is violent and affects other people? Maybe, but for thematic purposes I would hesitate to have this be a/the moment that defines his turn towards rot. The Owl House is a show that elsewhere believes there is something precious and protectable about childhood (e.g. everything Luz and Eda do for King, everything Eda does for Luz, and even its treatment of the Collector), so it would be a strange inconsistency for Philip to be considered bad overall from based on just doing what he’s told now (see: Hunter.)
Instead, the breakpoint for any sympathies we might have for Philip lies somewhere between Caleb first meeting Evelyn and Evelyn bringing Caleb back through the portal to the Demon Realm. Between the middle and bottom images above, note that Philip has clearly grown - his version of the hair noodle is longer and pointing up, in addition to the increased presence of wear on the photo. Sometime in this period is when Caleb sheds witch hunting as an ethos, but Philip does not.
Everything else we see of Philip becoming Belos in the mindscape paintings and in “real time” onscreen is fundamentally a 400-year continuation of that first pretend-that-imitated-reality. Despite being flung into a world that operates on entirely different wavelengths, he retains his belief that witches are for hunting, and that he, by virtue of being in a realm full of them, can be the “Witch Hunter General” (King’s Tide). That forms a stable core that could appear delusional as he, say, kills clones of his brother over and over again, torments his (likely) grand-grand-grand...-nieces, and plots genocide, but it is still principled: witches must be hunted.
A natural foil for kid Philip is the Collector, also a child, at least on the timescale that we are working with. [We do see larger and taller Archivists (e.g. Knockin’ on Hooty’s Door, For the Future, Watching and Dreaming) which implies that they aren’t eternal children or childlike in form, but the Collector has been a kid since King’s dad trapped him in the In Between Realm long ago (Watching and Dreaming.)]
The Collector is lied to by the other Archivists, Belos himself, and King - and what is lying but pretend with added deceit - but even he aspires to grow up and change in the end: “He said he had a lot of growing up to do, so he decided to return to the stars” (Luz dialogue in Watching and Dreaming) where the Archivists are (Kikimora dialogue in King’s Tide.) Belos’s near-total isolation from other humans is inflicted by his own hand; even if the early grimwalker copies came from a place of regret, they are not human. Belos understands that what he's doing harms people (Hollow Mind,) while the Collector doesn’t understand injury or mortality (For the Future, Watching and Dreaming.) The Collector is positioned closer to naively amoral given his status as an immortal, and yet he can still out-good Belos.
This show loves first/last parallels, so how’s this: Camila’s line in A Lying Witch and a Warden “your fantasy world is holding you back. Do you have any friends? Real ones, not imagined or drawn or reptilian?” spawned a lot of comparisons between s1 Luz and the Collector, but Belos is at least an equally apt comparison. The ripples of pretend have trapped him in a different dimension, surrounded by what he hates. When Dana tweeted “Nothing lasts forever” with the Watching and Dreaming poster, it was of course about the run of the show, but it was also about Belos, who only ceases to adhere to his childhood value system when he dies.

Hello! I'm here for the serve you event!
So I was wondering if you could do Day 15 or just the prompt of Stargazing with my oc (Amelia Monroe) x Armin Arlert from Attack on Titan!
Amelia is the same age as him and they grew up together in Shiganshina with Eren. Literally grew up as neighbors with him, and was a trio before Mikasa joined and such. So all really close friends! Yet she grew up being closer to Armin. But at a young age when she learned of the outside world from Armin's books, she's always wanted to go out and see the world with him. She loves things like the ocean, but she mainly loves the moon and stars. While Armin is logical, she admires it greatly and does her best to try to see things logically, but she's just someone who thinks and acts with her heart.
What she looks like: She's 5'6 and rather slender, has a look to her that would make others think that the last place she'd be is in the scouts. She has short brunette hair that's slightly wavy at the end. She has blue-gray eyes and has freckles on her face and some over her body as well.
Extra facts about Amelia:
•Her mother (Evelyn) is the youngest sibling of Rod and Uri Reiss, so she is related to the Reiss family. Her mother worked hard ever since she was young and moved to Shiganshina to get away from the Reiss family stuff, so Amelia never met them growing up despite hearing about her uncle's briefly and seeing her mother writing letters to them sometimes when she was younger.
•Her mother was very passionate and worked hard to take care of her family + Armin, Eren, and Mikasa when Wall Maria fell. So they weren't complete orphans.
•Her father (Jonathan) is a high ranking scout that works closely with Erwin.
•She also has two younger siblings. A brother two years younger than her named Xavier and a sister named Elizabeth who was born a couple months before the fall of Wall Maria.
If you have any other questions, DM me! I hope I have enough info for you to make something out of this!

Day 15 - stargazing Armin x OC
Join my September event
Tumblr media
"Continue closing your eyes, don't open it!" Armin yelled excitedly, as Amelia giggled her hands tightly covering her eyes.
"You know, when you said you wanted to go stargazing, I didn't think you'd lead me all the way to the edge of Paradis," she giggles even more as her bare feet touch the sand.
"Ok, open them!"
As Amelia took her hands off her face, she lightly gasps a the sight in front of her. A picnic blanket laid out on the sand, in front of it a weird contraption she had never seen before.
It stood on a stand, on top of it laid a long cylinder-like thing that pointed upwards at the sky, the part that was pointed down towards the sand was smaller as it gradually got bigger, it had some sort of lens on the tip that faced the sky.
Amelia walked closer towards the contraption, looking at it in wonder. It hadn't been long that Paradis made contact with the Azumabito Clan and the Anti Marleyan Forces. When they came, knowledge came along with them. With that knowledge, many contraptions they had never seen before came as well.
She had been in many meetings and discussions with both forces, but most of the time she had either chosen to leave or were not allowed at all. The ones that were allowed being Levi and Hange. It frustrated her to no end, but she knew they had good intentions behind it.
She can get slightly, emotional, whenever these things happened. getting defensive when they accidentally insult the scouts, or even getting the other side slightly annoyed by her questions.
"What is it?" she finally asked.
Armin took her hand in his and lead her towards the picnic blanket. He held the small end of it and adjusted it. Amelia continued to watch in wonder as Armin tinkered with the object.
"Look through this hole right here." he pointed at the small part of the contraption now adjusted to fit her height.
She looked at him for a moment with a teasing suspicion, though his smile made her confident everything was fine. So, she did as he told her. She leaned down slightly and looked through the glass.
"ARMIN!" she exclaimed once she realized what she was seeing.
Through the contraption, she could see the stars much closer. Bright white lights in the beautiful black sky. It was almost a dream. She placed both her hands on the contraption, and following with what Armin had done previously, started adjusting it to look to the side, higher, or lower.
Everything looked so much brighter, it was beautiful.
"What is it?" she asked him once she found it in herself to look away.
Armin smiled and pulled her down to sit on the blanket, he handed her a book. The alphabet is now familiar to her after spending quite a while studying it with Armin.
"Telescope?" she questioned, Armin nodded, "Yeah, they have these lenses at the end of both sides that magnify the sky. Yelena said scientists use them to look and study the stars."
She hummed in understanding, mind now focused on the book in front of her as she flipped through the pages. Armin watched her for a while, she had a bright smile on her face, and he couldn't bear to tear his eyes on the beauty in front of him.
That is until she suddenly stop as if some type of realization happened to her.
"Are you o-" before he could even finish the sentence. Amelia lunged towards him, tacking him in a tight hug.
Both Armin and Amelia fall to the ground from the impact, not that the two cared very much. The lovers were distracted by each other's embrace to notice the sand in their hair.
Finally, Amelia pulled away, looking up towards Armin's blue eyes, as he did to her own blue ones.
"Thank you," 2 simple words.
2 simple words didn't completely encapsulate how much gratitude she felt for the blonde man under her. Though it was a start.
The next step, as she had decided, was showing her love through kisses. Amelia grinned before littering Armin's face with tons and tons of kisses. He laughed loudly at the feeling.
When she was finally done the couple sat back up. They looked to the night sky with a sigh, the ocean's waves thrashing right in front of them. In a time of tense impending war, everything seemed so peaceful. Even if it was just a moment.
"Can you believe my great great great great great Grandpa decided that we weren't allowed to see this?" Armin knew she wasn't gesturing to the sky and instead gestures to the world they were locked away from.
"Well, we broke away from that, now we can see the world," Armin spoke, his hand reaching towards hers.
They stayed in silence for a short while. There were no words that could describe the calm atmosphere. So instead, they chose not to say anything. There wasn't much to be said anyways.
The two understood one another so well they could tell the silence was necessary. If not to think and ponder with what Eren might be plotting, then to relish in the feeling of a short peace. Something they might never be able to have ever again.
"Do you think anyone out there will be able to accept us?" Armin questioned.
Amelia shrugged. Truth be told, she didn't know what to answer him. She didn't know what to feel about people from the outside. Sure there were people who proved to be kind, but would they treat her with the same kindness once they figured out she was Eldian?
"Maybe, but I still don't know if I can forgive Reiner and Annie for what they did," she groaned thinking back about the tragedy.
"It wasn't completely their fault, you know?" Amelia immediately wanted the conversation to be over, "I understand you might be feeling frustrated, but maybe give them a second chance? I mean Annie's with us right now, the moment she wakes up it could be the time she gains our trust again."
Amelia looked over towards Armin. His eyes held so much hope, hope she hadn't seen in a while since they found out about the truth of the world. There wasn't a lot of hope to be felt, hope to win the war, sure, but Armin's hope was different.
Or perhaps she could be biased, his soft voice after all can distract her.
"Maybe," she spoke.
"I love you." Armin tightened his grip on her hand.
"I know," she stated, "I love you more than anything in this world."
Tumblr media
Hi there! Ok so I don't know if I did her character right cause I still feel a bit iffy about it. I haven't really written about Armin a whole lot, so I'm not completely confident in writing him either. But anyways, thank you so much for joining my event and I hope you enjoy this!!!

The Makings and Fate of Quentin Coldwater: What Were the Writers Thinking?
Trigger warnings: Quentin Coldwater, seasons 4 and (briefly) 5, mentions of suicide/suicidal ideation, outdated ideas about the purity of women.
General warnings: Spoilers for the show and the books.
Buckle up, darlings, and my apologies in advance: this is a rough ride, and I don’t recommend reading it if you aren’t in the right headspace for it right now.
I hope that those who do read it might drop some LGBTQIA+ positive book/tv recommendations in the comments as a pick-me-up for others. I will add some myself if I can think of some good ones.
So as it turns out, I ran into something entirely by accident: the inspiration behind the character of Quentin Coldwater.
I knew that Eliot and his "will-they-or-won't-they" dynamic with Quentin in the Magicians books were both borrowed from Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited (Grossman has said so himself)--
Tumblr media
but I didn't realize there was an actual preexisting character Grossman borrowed from for Q:
Tumblr media
Quentin Compson, from The Sound and the Fury.
This explains so much for me. So much.
I ran across information about the character the other day while doing something completely unrelated (looking up some other book if I recall correctly), and when I saw the similarity of the two names and then learned about the first Quentin’s fate, I thought, could this be LG’s inspiration?
Further research revealed that yes, Lev has said as much in articles. And even if he hadn’t, the fact that he has written extensively *about* TSatF online makes it a relatively easy conclusion to draw.
While the two Quentins aren't actually much alike (at least on the surface; I haven't read TSatF yet, just in-depth summaries/analyses of it)--other than the fact that they are both mentally ill over-achiever college students, are preoccupied with the idea of another world (the world as they each wish it was), and constantly associated with symbolic clocks and watches--Quentin Compson's fate explains everything for me in terms of how to understand Quentin Coldwater's series-four fate.
Quentin Compson ultimately kills himself in the famous classic novel; he does so by drowning after jumping off the Anderson Memorial Bridge in Boston, Massachusetts. Today there is a plaque there to commemorate the character:
Tumblr media
In the Faulkner novel, Quentin associates the smell of honeysuckle with his obsessions over his sister’s purity--an ideal he comes to feel let down by after she loses her virginity and then seems to lose herself further in the company of men he feels are unsuitable.
I can’t help but make a parallel with the “drowned garden” of season 4, episode 12.
Tumblr media
Quentin makes the following speech in the drowned garden, and as far as I’m concerned, it’s the closest thing we get to a suicide note:
You know the worst part of getting exactly what you want? When it's not good enough. Then what do you do? If this can't make me happy, then what would? Fillory was supposed to mean something. I was supposed to mean something here. But it's all... it's just... it's random. It's so random that the only way to save my friends is to yell at a fucking plant! Honestly, fuck Fillory for being so disappointing. You know what, maybe I was better off just believing that it was fiction. The idea of Fillory is what saved my life! [laughs.] This promise... that... people like me... [weeping] People like me... Can somehow... Find an escape. There has gotta be some power in that. Shouldn't loving the idea of Fillory be enough?
But the idea of Fillory is not enough, in the end, because the idea of happiness is also not enough. And by the end of his time on the show, that’s all Quentin has: the trappings of happiness (or at least the ones available to him, the ones he thinks might get him there), without the actual emotion.
Maybe he realizes, in the drowned garden, that he is at the end of his rope. Maybe that is where he decides to give up.
That, in my opinion, is why he begins to seem so shut down: it isn’t uncommon for people to distance themselves emotionally as a precursor to suicide (hence Jason being accused of “refusing to act” toward the end of S4).
I think it’s also why he doesn’t stop to wait and see how Eliot is after Margo strikes the Monster with the axes: he has given up on the idea that the things he thinks will make him happy actually will, or that happiness is actually attainable for him in the first place.
Quentin Coldwater drowns not in the fading of honeysuckle; for him it’s peaches and plums. In any case, he is definitely in over his head, and the water that spills out of the mirrors after his death feels like an homage to that literal drowning of his predecessor.
The TM writers found ways, as the show progressed, to tie the books back in to the show; the way they did it, however, was often roundabout to say the least. Their takes on how different plot points should occur, or be interpreted from book to screen, were usually close to abstract. They did do it, in many ways, but theirs was far from a faithful adaptation.
It fits, therefore, that they would tie The Sound and the Fury into S4 the way that it appears they did.
It also tells me something about how blame for their decision can be distributed, because either the showrunners:
a.) really did their research re: Compson and put together that this was the character that inspired Lev
or, as is much more likely, they:
b.) discussed it all with Lev himself--or LG was the one to broach the subject to see what sort of take they could spin.
Whatever the lead-in to the decision, I think three things combined to give them the idea for Q’s fate:
1. Quentin Compson;
2. Alice’s description, in the third book, of watching an old god kill herself to make way for a new world (which was when Umber and Ember emerged);
3. The following lines from The Magician’s Land: “The truly sad thing was that Ember actually wanted to do it. Quentin saw that too: He had come here intending to drown Himself, the way the god before Him had, but He couldn’t quite manage it. He was brave enough to want to, but not brave enough to do it. He was trying to find the courage, longing for the courage to come to Him, but it wouldn’t, and while He waited for it, ashamed and alone and terrified, the whole cosmos was coming crashing down around Him.
Quentin wondered if he would have been brave enough. He would never know. But if Ember couldn’t sacrifice himself, Quentin would have to do it for Him.”
So, it appears, the group of writers (LG included, however actively) apparently decided to take Quentin’s thought from book three and put him in exactly that position: make the choice, or fail to make the choice.
But the need for him to make that choice was never horribly convincing. They were very mistaken if they thought it was. And no matter what, it was ultimately a horrible, damaging idea. It hurt the audience, and it killed the show. The only sacrifice that was made was made in the name of ego and “clever writing” that the writers thought was edgy and risky in some desirable way.
Tumblr media
[Quote from vulture.com]
It's not so deep.
What they did, ultimately, was borrow from more than one outdated work, and use those as excuses to do the wrong things re: mental illness and LGBTQIA+ representation:
Evelyn Waugh’s characters fail, once again, to live their lives and desires freely and openly (What a waste to rehash the long-denied dynamic from Brideshead Revisited only to deny it again);
Quentin Compson’s legacy of suicide and hopelessness lives on (and this is made all the more offensive when you learn that Compson’s suicide was based largely on ideas of spoiled purity which were solely the burden of women to uphold).
They took what could have been made right and beautiful and instead used their story to perpetuate the same sad old traditions of queerbaiting and Burying the Gays.
Tragedy is not more profound than happiness (just ask Quentin Coldwater). I'd argue that to make something really beautiful, you need to mend what's broken.
The world is a broken place. It's easy to break things here.
The worst thing they did to Q, by far, was to use the beautiful concept of minor mending against him like it was the fuse on a stick of dynamite: the thing he’d spent his whole life seeking--his specific field, his special skill in the actual real world of magic--was what he used to kill himself. He killed himself by *fixing something.* We need no further evidence that Q had given up hope.
What a terrible message, and what a slap in the face to viewers who put their trust in this atrocious writing.
And they did nothing to redeem themselves after the fact, either. If anything, they made it even worse, somehow:
Eliot, by the end of the show, has even less than he started with.
Eliot, apparently, is us: left without Q, stripped of the comfort of a world we thought we knew. Utterly let down by the writers who had the power to make things different.
I hate to end this on such a terrible note. So let me just say that if you were let down by the show, and you miss Q, you’re far from alone! I see you, and I hear you, and I share your pain.
TM got it all wrong. But I have faith that others will get it right.
And no matter what, in the last book, Quentin lives, and has nothing but a whole world of possibility open up before him.

Conversation
The following are 're-posts' by Andrist and his professional peers about him revealing his lack of ethics, his hidden agenda of revenge against all doctors, his outright attack of the intellectually disabled and lies.
11/2012: Andrist post, in 3/2012, with the death of his sister Cali, he was 'forced' to look for work (https://bluefoggyday.tumblr.com/post/36164603548/my-2-week-job-at-costco)
Andrist:'During college, I worked 4 years at Fedco Membership Department Store in San Bernardino; 2 years as a cashier and 2 years in the cash/accounting office. I then spent the next 20+ years working in theatrical production. In 2003, I gave it all up to care full-time for my disabled sister. Unfortunately, she passed away in March 2012, and I was forced to look for work for the first time in a decade.'
Contradictions:
1. Andrist's words of being 'forced' portrays a much different picture of how/why he became a patient advocate and notary than he later claims with great vigor portraying himself as Cali's savior. Given his next life move is to sue the doctors and hospital he blamed for Cali's death (d.3/12/2012) while at the same time initiating a fight to remove the MICRA cap, reveals a common thread of a monetary incentive. Tax payers (MDCR/MediCal..noting Andrist claims Cali never worked) likely paid Cali's medical/death debts if not written off by the institutions first, so only Andrist benefited from the award.
2. Andrist claims that in 2003 he gave up 20+ years working in theatrical production to become a full-time caregiver to Cali. A quick online search finds the theatrical production company Andrist co-founded voted Andrist out, accepting his resignation in 1999 in a 5 to 0 vote (https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1999-sep-05-ca-6949-story.html).
3. Andrist's linkedin resume finds him 'unemployed' between 1999 until becoming a caregiver to his sister in 2003. No gainful employment, no volunteer work, nothing suggesting his life partner was perhaps financially supporting him, so Andrist didn't actually 'give up' anything to take care of Cali. Andrist actually personally profited. https://www.linkedin.com/in/eric-andrist-97478821/
On other sites Andrist claims he gave up his "show business career to care full time for 'both' his elderly mother and mentally retarded sister". (Andrist maintains calling Cali 'retarded' is just what she is: "Cali, born mentally retarded. Yes, I come from the generation that didn’t feel the need for politically correct terms like “mentally challenged,” she was always just mentally retarded. She actually didn’t let much of anything “challenge” her, so that term never seemed appropriate. https://calisplea.tumblr.com/) https://www.facebook.com/repmikequigley/posts/hellomy-name-is-eric-andrist-and-i-live-in-valley-village-ca-i-just-read-a-lette/10150969620415689/
4. Andrist claims he 'took in his elderly mother and disabled sister in 2003' (https://www.linkedin.com/in/eric-andrist-97478821/ & https://bluefoggyday.tumblr.com/post/109493866919/dog-god) A review of online records projects a different story. It appears Andrist's mom, Evelyn, sold her home 9/23/2002 and then bought into a home previously solely owned by Andrist's boyfriend/partner, adding both her name and her son Eric's within that same deed transaction on 9/25/2002 two days later. So in truth, Evelyn was a co-owner of the home, to be clear she was not a freeloader or charity case as implied. The timing of Andrist being added to the home title by deed suggests that Eveyln gave Andrist an early inheritance and retained a share (her name on the deed) to ensure the care of Cali in the future, with Cali likely inheriting a percentage of ownership in the home at the time of Evelyn's death. Evelyn died unexpectedly during elective surgery months later. If correct, Andrist was 'forced' to provide care for Cali or else buy Cali out and forfeit any State Financial Aid Cali most likely had been receiving. Instead Andrist opted for a quid pro quo agreement where he likely received State funds to care for Cali. Cali's death put an end to that income 'forcing' Andrist, as he stated, to hunt a job after 9 years of being her caregiver. No doubt Cali was satisfied with the arrangement, but there were strings attached, no charity or anything noble as Andrist suggests. Does Andrist's truth depend upon his audience and motive? That clearly appears to be the case when Andrist refuses to remove the innocent doctors from his many negative blogs related to his 'Bad Doctors' websites despite his receiving documents of proof of dismissal of all allegations/charges and removal of the online articles by the original reporters he had re-posted. It appears Andrist is motivated by power over the innocent doctors.
Seems this is where Andrist next landed, becoming a notary:
2013 Andrist's Peer Review of him as a notary/owner of Eric's Pro Services (his notary service in the Greater Los Angeles area):

Eric, I've been just an innocent bystander in this thread (in which I've learned a lot) but I gotta say at this point in response to your last post, your are such a whiner, crybaby, complainer, idiot, I can barely believe it. You got a boatload of valuable information from notaries across the country, none of whom needed to take the time, esp at EOM, to answer your ill-framed original question. Many either pointed you in the right direction, opened the topic to more discussion and in the case of Marian, cited you chapter and verse. What more do you need to know? A simple thank you for all their input and insight might have been in order. Nowhere else could you have gotten such informative and helpful responses.
But you want "joy." And to be "safe." Go to a spa. In fact, your hostility and foot-stomping tantrum, makes me think you can't possibly be a real notary but a trouble-making plant. Right?

While it's true that some of you posted some good info and were perfectly nice, some were not. I just don't understand a person's need to belittle another person in ANY way. I always assume a person asking a question literally knows nothing and try to give the best answer I can without making them feel like an idiot.
The, "am I the only person here who...." and "But you want "joy." And to be "safe." Go to a spa," is not hospitable or kind in my book.
I'd hate to think how they treat their customers.

Don't worry about it, Eric, because none of my "customers" are remotely like you. You are in a class by yourself.
And why is it when somebody's appalling behavior is called out to them, they always respond how sorry they feel for others? Just an observation.
(The Irony here is that Andrist consistently on his facebook site 'Bad Medicine Database' demeans and berates people that challenge his post, often name calling and censoring their post to promote his agenda of bullying the innocent.)
3/28/13: Andrist is being accused of Agent Misconduct for 'notarizing a document(s) he backdated'. Andrist's defense on the blog was that he was asked to, then goes into a tirade against the accusatory website.
http://www.notaryrotary.com/archive/forum/2013/March/badnotary_com_A_new_website_badmouthing_notaries_.html
2014-2015 Andrist posted about his efforts to obtain a financial award due to his sister, Cali's, unfortunate death he claims was due to medical negligence https://bluefoggyday.tumblr.com/post/109493866919/dog-god:
Andrist: Because my sister was disabled, with no spouse or children, California's MICRA law nearly prevented me from any legal action whatsoever. It took me over 8 months to find a lawyer who would take my case. On 3/9/2015 Andrist posted that 'I recently agreed to a confidential "settlement" against both the hospital and the doctor, even though I would have loved to have heard a jury find them both guilty'
(Being indigent, per Andrist, his sister, Cali's, medical/death expenses would have likely been either written off or paid by tax payers through her MDCR or Medical. The settlement award went directly to Andrist to use at his sole discretion. For what? He'd already been receiving monthly State checks for her care)
By 4/26/2015: Andrist tries his hand at writing children's books. Lending insight is the one book titled 'Lunch Money' which Andrist claims is based upon his early life experience of being bullied in school. (https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/538542)
(The significance of this finding is that Andrist well knows the victimization he imposes upon the innocent doctors and intellectually disabled persons)
11/9/2015 Eric Andrist on God and the deaths of his sister and mom (his public fb):
Ironically Andrist in another online blog of 1/29/2015 (https://bluefoggyday.tumblr.com/post/109493866919/dog-god) Andrist: He claims he 'stopped believing in God' as soon as he got 'old enough to think for himself. He goes on to explain how the church he loved disapproved that he'd skipped church to go to Disney for his birthday..and it was then that he decided church/religion was all hypocrisy. (A much different story than Andrist creates ten months later on 11/9/2015 when ramping up his patient advocacy position. Which is the truth?... the earlier story written pre-receiving Cali's death settlement abt. 3/19/2015 or the later written post-receiving Cali's death settlement when fighting MICRA to remove the survivor benefits cap, self-promoting for attention)
On Andrist's public fb:
Barbara X: Eric they are healed, just not in the way you asked. They are out of pain and walk with God. It's not easy to to forgive God, I have been there. You asked for healing for your Family and he answered you in the the way that was best.
Eric Andrist: No, they're not healed, Barbara, they're dead.
You're overlooking a very important bible verse that's mentioned at least 7 times, "Ask and ye SHALL receive." It doesn't say "Ask and I'll think about it."
I have no need to forgive God, he needs to be held responsible for his absence. He has allowed far too many horrible things to occur on this planet...he doesn't deserve forgiveness. Think about it: the Holocaust, 911, floods, ongoing famine, AIDS, and I could go on and on. That doesn't even touch on people's tragedies in their personal lives. I've had three tragic deaths in my immediate family and God was nowhere in sight.
I asked for healing and no suffering. All three of my family members suffered greatly before they died. He could have just as easily taken them in their sleep, but he didn't. You can justify it in your own head that they are "healed," but that's just a justification for you to continue believing that he exists. The bible clearly states that when people die, they are dead until God comes back at the end of time. They are NOT healed. And there's no guarantee that if he comes back, any of us are going to heaven anyway because he allowed us to all be sinners! He set up a catch-22 plan! Create people, introduce sin, and then punish people for being sinners. Jesus DIED and was raised from the dead...why would people be anything but dead if Jesus died?
Yes, my mother would be proud that I'm angry about this. She didn't work so hard her whole life to have it end in needless tragedy.
It makes me angry that people have fallen for this scam called "God," and refuse to look at the evidence that clearly proves he isn't there for us.
(Another revealing rant by Andrist, that he maintains a position that he will decide if he should forgive God, and that God must be held accountable)
May 10, 2019: The Medical Board of California suggested that Andrist was 'out for revenge' against physicians.(p 3)
https://www.mbc.ca.gov/About_Us/Meetings/Materials/1950/brd-AgendaItem4-20190808.pdf
(This claim is cross-verified by Andrist's bullying of doctors later found innocent being left up forever on his Bad Doctor websites creating perceived guilt by association with those doctors that actually were convicted of crimes. Andrist admits that he does little if any fact checking or follow-up on the doctors he posts. Additionally Andrist admits in an online exchange with BadDoctorDatabase-Errors, a website created to help salvage the careers/reputations of the many falsely accused doctors on Andrists' sites, that he can do whatever he wants on his sites (regardless of who it harms or of legal rulings) and that he does not believe in 'Innocent Until Proven Guilty')
May 20, 2019: Andrist failed to get elected to his neighborhood council...then whined about it online citing the election was not ADA compliant, demanding a new election and threatening to file a complaint with the City.
https://www.citywatchla.com/index.php/2016-01-01-13-17-00/los-angeles/17700-valley-village-nc-election-challenged
(Ironically, Andrist repeatedly over the past 9 years, as recently as 6/7/2019 (https://calisplea.tumblr.com/), openly discounts any need to be politically correct when calling his intellectually disabled sister Cali 'mentally retarded' (note: Rosa’s Law, signed by President Barack Obama in October 2010).
https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2017/07/11/2017-14343/rosas-law
Andrist appears hypocritical in his posturing of alleged sensitivity to accommodating the disabled in an election within which he ran given his own admitted refusal to cease offending, demeaning and dehumanizing the intellectually disabled population in his many derogatory references online to his sister, in one article even comparing her to his dog Bandit.(https://bluefoggyday.tumblr.com/post/109493866919/dog-god)
9/7/2019: Andrist obviously ignores the recent outrage to Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris and her response to a rally goer calling President Donald Trump's actions "mentally retarded" at a campaign event.
https://www.politico.com/story/2019/09/07/kamala-harris-mental-health-slur-trump-1484463
