Five was too overzealous, but one wasn't enthusiastic enough. But as I hit the send button, I heard a voice behind me. "Why don't you just do it the old-fashioned way and actually talk to me?" My eyes widened as I turned to face Ardit. He stood there looking like a cross between an exasperated parent and a bored college student. I had been avoiding him, but fate had other plans for me. ❄𝗡𝗨𝗥𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗗𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗠𝗦❄ How far have you come since you first started writing? I wrote my first short story at 8 years old. The class had to write a short story using all the words from our spelling lesson. I wrote about a pregnant dolphin in captivity that simply wanted to be reuinited with her family in the ocean. I believe that simplicity can be a powerful writing tool. My descriptive writing has grown stronger since then but, sometimes it's best to go back to your roots when all you needed was a simple sentence using words from your spelling lesson. It's not always possible to wait for everything to be perfect before pursuing our dreams... some dreams should be nurtured even in the most difficult conditions! Start writing, no matter what. I finally got around to starting a new story that I'd been wanting to write for a while, and I'm really enjoying it so far. It's been nice to have some fresh creative energy and get back into the swing of things. I’m so excited to make more progress on Snow White and the Guardians of the Sword! 🍎⚔️ It’s been so much fun coming up with story ideas and writing out new scenes. ❄️𝗠𝗢𝗢𝗗𝗕𝗢𝗔𝗥𝗗 & 𝗦𝗡𝗜𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗧❄️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲 - 𝗦𝗻𝗼𝘄 & 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗿 Snowflakes fluttered down, coating everything in a thin blanket of white. I watched as they danced through the air. I couldn't help but smile at their gentle beauty despite knowing that I hated the cold. Ardit stood a few feet away from me with his hands shoved deep into his pockets and an anguished look upon his face. He stared up at the sky, wondering what celestial force had decided today would be a snow day. I gathered snow into my gloved hands and formed it into a ball. I gave him a small smile before throwing the snowball at his head. His pensive expression broke into one of confusion and then amusement as he looked back at me. “Hey!” He called out. I stuck my tongue out at him and threw another snowball at him. This time, he sidestepped and dodged it. He laughed, "Oh, that's it!" He made a snowball and threw it in my direction. I squealed and hid behind a tree. He laughed as he peeked behind the tree and saw me. “Found you!” he shouted. I screamed in delight and smashed a snowball in his face. He retaliated by grabbing handfuls of snow and pelting me with them. We collapsed onto the snow-covered ground, laughing. He rolled over to his side and reached out to stroke the side of my face. My heart tightened at his tender gesture. Our eyes locked for a moment, which was broken when Ardit yawned. "Did you have fun?" I asked. Day 13 of #themoonstarsandskychallenge talks about world building. I don't have a set formula for world building. I don't think there really is a formula. I just think about the kind of world I want to write and establish the genre. Are there rules and regulations in this world? What political atmosphere does this world have? What is the terrain and climate? Is there magic or is there no magic? Day 10 of #themoonstarsandskychallenge asks the question "Are you a Plotter, Pantser, or Plantser? A plotter is a writer who, before writing, writes out an outline with key events and tries to stick to the plan. A pantser is like the name suggests, they fly by the seat of their pants and don't bother to outline. And last but not least is plantser. This writer is a hybrid between plotter and pantser. They write a loose outline with enough wiggle room for plot changes. I used to be a pantser because I didn't think there was much point to outlining if it was always going to change. Now, I'm more of a plantser because it was getting to be a pain constantly having to go back and sift through past story details every time I needed to write. What about you? Today is Day 9 of #themoonstarsandskychallenge Day 9 - Am I Writing A Standalone Novel or Series? Remembering Snow White will most likely be a series or trilogy. There is so much story to tell! Lost in Austen could either work as a standalone or a series. I'm currently rewriting it and will see if there is enough story for a series. But, it's looking like there will be enough material for a trilogy. 😄 I prefer series. My entries bookshelf is full of series with a few standalones peppered in. The one thing I dislike about series is when they end and you have to say goodbye to all the wonderful characters. 😭 What do you prefer reading writing series or standalone? I'm doing a little catchup here with #themoonstarsandskychallenge Day 6 - Hard vs. Soft Sci-fi and which do I prefer? First of all, a mini lesson. Hard sci-fi is based on "hard facts." It's realistic with current technology. Like The Martian (a favorite of mine). Soft sci-fi is more flexible in terms of science. It's more fantastical and more fun. Like Star Wars. I like both! But, with hard sci-fi, you run the risk of the story getting boring from over explaining the science. What do you prefer hard or soft sci-fi? Day 7 - My Writing Process To be honest, I don't really have a fancy writing process. Today is Day 4 of #themoonstarsandskychallenge Day 4 - Do You Prefer Writing Dialogue or Setting? I have always found dialogue more fun to write. In high school and college, I earned the name Miss Tolkien from my friends because I used to over describe. And to the girl that proofread my thirty page short story in Mrs. Tumillo's high school creative writing class, my sincere apologies! 🤣🤣🤣 Over the years, I've found that my prose has matured and become less long-winded. Your writing grows with you. Now, I prefer both Dialogue and setting! What do you prefer more?
