I don't read a lot of books. I read but mainly online articles about music production or other things that interest me. I felt like I should give it a try again and started with the first book of the Maze Runner series that @derb0erner borrowed me. #Repost @polly__flintandherbooks ・・・ In “War and Turpentine“ the author Stefan Hertmans tells about his grandfather, who dreamed of becoming a painter, but instead had to experience the horrors of the trenches in the First World War. A touching book about a world that doesn`t exist anymore, about the war that changed it, about a lost love and about art. This book made me realize several things: - I know very little about the First World War (the focus at school was on World War II) - I know very little about my grandfather and nothing at all about my great-grandparents - I know very little about Belgium and its role in the First World War After all, this book was a first step to change two of the three points. Death Perception is so far my favorite of Howard's books that I have read (not that they aren't all good but..) at about the 40-50% mark we see how Kennet's "gift" is going to come in to play. You see Kennet can tell how people are going to die (after death) with a somewhat creepy trait, he toasts marshmallows over their cremains and eats them. Odd for sure, but so is Kennet in his own way, although I suspect that is more from his family history than anything else. And while this is a slower paced books, its still an engaging fast read, if that makes sense. We get a lot of Kennet's background and about is life in the earlier part of the book until he decides to use what he learned to try and find out what is going on and if his mother was a victim as well. Despite Kennet's oddity, you get to like him, he really is a good kid just trying to get by on the raw deal he was dealt in life. I thoroughly enjoy this book and thank @blackthorntours and @leeallenhoward1 for the review copy of this book. Rozmawiałam wczoraj z pewną czytelniczką, ot takie luźne pogaduchy, i rozmowa w pewnym momencie zeszła na księcia z bajki. A mnie naszła pewna refleksja 🤔😉 Ponieważ jednak czasem łatwiej pokazać, niż opowiedzieć, więc... pokazuję😁 Bo właściwie na jakiej podstawie zakładamy, że jak książę, to na pewno przystojny i w ogóle wspaniały pod każdym względem? Kto pierwszy wpadł na taki pomysł i kiedy? Zawsze mnie to zastanawiało, że one nigdy nie protestują, kiedy książę którąś wybierze 😅 BTW1, czy wiecie, że ten książę w prawym dolnym rogu to Filip I Piękny? (I żeby było jasne - nie domagam się, by wybranek mojego serca był najprzystojniejszym mężczyzną wszechczasów, są cechy, które pociągają mnie bardziej niż uroda, choć nie będę udawać, że wygląd nie ma żadnego znaczenia. Dziwi mnie tylko to natychmiastowe zakochanie się bohaterki w każdym, kto ma tytuł książęcy przed imieniem 😁😉🤔😯😲 I to w różnych kręgach kulturowych! ) BTW2 Czy zauważyliście, że ostatnio rolę księcia przejmują... mafiozi? With or Without You is an emotional journey into the lives of Stella, Simon and Libby. Stella and Simon have been in a long term relationship for decades. Stella is the responsible one, wanting to “grow up” and have children and an adult life. Simon is a musician who wants to make it big and have fun. The night before what is supposed to be Simon’s big break, Stella ends up in a coma and Simon gives up his opportunity to stay with her but when she wakes up, she is not the Stella everyone knew. This a book, ultimately about life and the choices we make, for better or worse. It has deep and intense character development and whether we like them or not, we feel deeply for them. Everyone is flawed and broken and we see how they change over time. It is a very engaging book, you become invested and want to know what is going to happen. This was my first book by Caroline Leavitt but if the rest are like this one, it won’t be my last.
