Addicted to You (E) by yr_bb Simon missed him, of course he did. He knew nothing had really changed. But this forced separation was a new kind of torture, and he hated it. Hated that he wanted him still, but even in his whole setting boundaries thing, he hadn’t actually wanted to move on. He didn’t, he couldn’t, not if there was still a chance. Being this close was only bringing that all up again.

Willow also for the character ask game

General opinion/how much I care about them: I’ve always really liked Willow, ever since I first watched Buffy.  I think that she is without doubt the second most complex and richest character on the show (after Buffy herself, of course).  I like that Willow gets to be a girl who is good with computers and likes math puns and teaches her friends trigonometry.  I like that she gets to turn Xander down in Prophecy Girl despite spending years waiting for him to notice her.  I like the fact that she has a real arc across the show’s run, one that often involves her not being a very admirable person.  I like that she’s a bit of a hypocrite and that she isn’t afraid to hold a grudge.  I like that all her worst flaws arise naturally out of her greatest virtues.

A ship I love: Boring answer maybe but I think all of Willow’s canon relationships are good in their own way.  (Well, all her canon relationships apart from the one with the evil demon that lives in the internet.  Not really sure about that one.)  Wanting to be loved and to be in a romantic relationship feels like a very substantial part of Willow’s character, actually (see, relatedly, all the different  times Willow tries to make Buffy happier by setting her up with somebody). But sure, Tara/Willow is my favorite.  It’s the best (and arguably most long-lasting) thing to come out of Season 4, too.

A non-romantic relationship that I love: Buffy and Willow’s friendship is one of the most important parts of the show to me, and I think it’s as important to them as any other relationship either of them have.  And I honestly think it is better done and develops more organically than any of Buffy’s romances. Willow’s journey from “why is the new girl being nice to me? what does she want? I’d better memorize and act on every bit of bad advice she gives me so she’ll like me” to “Buffy is my best friend and we’re going to go to grad school together, so she simply isn’t allowed to stay dead” (and Buffy’s corresponding journey from “why is my brand new friend Cordelia being so mean to this poor girl?  wait, is Cordelia a bad person?  am I?” to “okay, since bad things will happen to Willow if I don’t stop the Master I guess I’ll just go and fight the Master and die“) just feels a lot more real than any number of love at first sight plotlines.  I really wish they got to talk more in Season 7.

The NOTP: I think not having Willow and Xander end up together is one of the smartest choices the early seasons of the show ever made.  As childhood friends they work really well, but as a couple … no.

My biggest headcanon about them: I’ve decided that I think Willow and Cordelia were friends when they were very young, and that the whole “We Hate Cordelia” stuff only happened after Cordelia met Harmony and publicly distanced herself from Willow to fit in with her new cooler friends.  I think that explains some of Willow’s animosity to Harmony in particular (who she seems to hate more than Cordelia, even though we barely ever see Willow and Harmony interact), and I don’t think the way Willow and Cordelia talk to each other in late S1 / early S2 really makes sense if they’ve never gotten on before.  (This theory fits the little the show reveals about their personal timelines, too, I think: the show at least implies that Xander has known Cordelia for a couple of years longer than Willow has known Harmony, and we also know that Willow and Xander have been inseparable since kindergarten.)

An idea for a fanfiction I would like to write/read about them: If I ever find the time and energy to write a direct sequel to my Season 3 Buffy AU, I think Willow would be the main character.  (I actually have a vague outline half plotted out for it and everything, though it’s really not very likely I will find the time to work on it any time soon.)   Maybe I’ve just never looked in the right places, but I don’t think there are many plot-heavy Buffy fanfics where Willow plays a truly central role. 

Something that makes me think of them: Uh. So, this is a bit of a non sequitur (and very much a case of me projecting onto my blorbo, I know) but it kind of annoys me that the show suggests that Willow is majoring in sociology (or at least something adjacent to that) in college.  Yes, I get that she has to be in the same classes as Buffy sometimes in Season 4 and 5 for plot reasons, and she has to be doing something Buffy at least expects to be able to follow for the brief and disappointing return to college in Season 6 to work.  And yes, I know that Season 4 deliberately plays up the whole “Willow’s not into computers much these days, if you know what I mean” angle, (although I’d note that she still seems to know her way around a computer fine in later seasons when the plot requires it).  

But in high school Willow was clearly more into STEM than anything else, what with the science fairs and the hacking and being head-hunted by a computer company and … look, I just think she should have been allowed to major in math, okay?  

I mean, abstract algebra has root systems and crystals and spurious use of the word ‘quantum’ and really atrociously bad puns!  You get to learn a secret little language that most people don’t understand and consider yourself part of a semi-mystical tradition stretching back thousands of years and draw elaborate geometric figures and convince yourself you’re learning something fundamental about the nature of reality just by thinking really hard! You’re telling me teenage Wiccan and confirmed nerd Willow Rosenberg – who was covering for her computer science teacher as a high school junior and who, it’s at least implied, did even better at the math component of the SAT than the verbal, and who explicitly chose Sunnydale in part because she’d be able to design her own curriculum  – wouldn’t love all of that?  

… anyway, yes, as I said, it’s possible I may be projecting here just a tiny little bit.

But anyway.  My answer to the actual question is that sometimes I am reading a math textbook and I think: “oh, I bet Willow would love learning about this”.

I kind of regret not doing more with the Ocarina of Time, and time travel in general. Like, towards the end, Link would definitely try to use it, right? I think I'm going to do a major overhaul of the Termina arc soon.

sexuality was going to be a concept i explored in the fic. ultimately i wanted to keep it a T rating so i didn't do this, but. it was definitely a thing! cut things include lotsssss of Sheik baggage, boyish feelings about Kafei, weird fierce deity sex dreams and um. remember Javert?

Javert and Link wereeee... supposed to fuck! I even wrote a before and after scene LOLLL. Javert was going to play a more important role in general, being a semi-reoccurring character. He was planned to be Link's kind of """only friend""" in Castletown. Link was drawn to him because of how much older and experienced he was, and Javert took pity on Link, both in a sort of genuine but also kind of overbearing way. ultimately Link got annoyed by him pretty quickly and once he started to get to know Malon he basically ghosted him. another example of how Link struggles to balance relationships, especially those who really care for him. obviously i. didn't go further with this. but it was planned for about a year before I scrapped it. But i hope you reread their scene together to pick up on some vibes.....

Just popping in to say hi and check in on how you are doing? I’m really enjoying the pieces you have put forth for your febuwhump! There are all so good and leaving me wanting more and imagining what would happen next. I’m also loving how each piece features a different character I.e Dean, Jensen , or Beau. And especially Beau since we got to see so little of him so I’m enjoying all fics that expand on his character.

Couple of questions.

When ideas spark for a new fic with no specific character in mind. You know you want your reader to be this and dealing with that and have X Y Z happen but it doesn’t matter who is the character, my question is how do you pick. As in how do you decided to make it a Dean, AU Dean, Sam, Soilder boy etc? Do you just choose your favorite or brainstorm the world you want it happen in and then think the idea would fit if better if it was in a world with powers or spn-verse? (I hope that made sense)

Also who is your favorite non Jensen character to write for?

Lastly do you ever go back and just read your own fics for fun or simply to dive back in the world or are you the type of person who doesn’t like to read your own stuff? I find myself personally doing it a lot lately and it makes sense cause I wrote it bc I wanted it and was curious if others did the same.

Hi there! Things have been a little hectic lately! Overall things are good but work's been a wee bit nuts to put it mildly. I've been working late most nights this year (and last) but my boss told me to leave early today which was a win!

The febuwhump drabbles have been fun to work on! They're definitely snapshots in time that could easily keep going. There's one in particular that's not out yet that I think could draw a lot of interest for more 👀 I'm glad I'm able to jump around with the characters! It makes things a little harder which is a good thing to me since it makes me think.

For your first question of how I pick characters for stories, I try to let the plot drive the decision. If it's set in the SPN world, in cannon where the boys are hunters, I generally go with Dean because he's my favorite but also because I feel like I can write him better than say Sam. Now say it was a story about a superhero. Well let's say I've got AU Dean, AU Jensen and Soldier Boy as my options. Do I want the hero to be dark? Vulgar? Sensitive? Rich? Poor? How do I want the relationship with the reader to develop? Short answer is I ask myself a lot of questions in a short amount of time and branch down whatever path I think makes most sense. Sometimes where it really could be anyone, if I'm leaning towards someone in particular I'll pick them, or if I haven't written for them lately it'll go to them. It's a complicated answer but it really does change depending on the story!

Favorite non-Jensen character in the fanfic world to write for is Benny and Michael (I'm going to consider him separate even though he's Michael!Dean). Benny's one of my favorite side characters to throw into AU's you might notice. He's easily a good fit for a best friend character but has a certain...roughness to him that compliments Dean if that makes sense. If they do more SPN, I demand more Benny lol. As for Michael, I think he's a truly complicated character that is capable of both good and evil. When I wrote Wicked Game that was a big risk since it's a story focused so much on Michael. A reader is absent for a significant part of it even. But I just find the concept of the villain having a soft side so much fun (and writing that dark side too).

I do read my own stuff! Generally I do this with series more than one shots or imagines but I have my favorites I revisit with those too. I think all writers should re-read their stuff for fun. There's so much that's freeing when you're not being critical of the work but just enjoying it and it really helps you understand why readers might love something you think is awful. One of my favorite things is to see someone like or reblog a fic in my activity feed and then I get reacquainted with a story I completely forgot about! You're definitely not alone in re-reading!

So in terms of general concepts/tropes I enjoy in all media, there def any iteration of (Enemies/Rivals to) Friends to Lovers; then Found Family <3 and hurt/comfort -> especially in combo with one of the other two tropes!

When in comes to which types of fanfics I specifically seek out most of the time:

I know this is super unpopular, but I love well done miscommunication in fanfics! Hate it in most movies tho!!

-> also what I think constitutes “good” miscommunication basically boils down to “ is the miscommunication plot or character motivated?” cause in a lot of media the miscommunication feels forced and only meant to prolong or escalate the story

-> but if the miscommunication happens bc the characters are, for example, insecure about sharing certain info/feelings it is way more captivating and relatable (to me)

-> so this is ofc directly related to (Mutual) Pining <3 (plus also connected to another fave of mine: Memory Loss/Amnesia & also secret identity)

2. Forced proximity!!

-> I’m counting both sharing a bed and stuff like fake relationship under this umbrella

-> I just love when characters are forced to interact with each other in a different and typically more intimate way than they usually do! (and what it reveals about themselves and their relationship to eachother!)

3. Fix-it fanfics

-> I actually love original stories that have tragic endings! But there are many ways a story can end in a disappointing way and make me immeditaly turn to what all the wonderful fanfic authors have come up with in order to clean up the mess!

I have way too many favourite fanfics tbh... SO I'm actually gonna do both general and smosh ones I enjoyed a lot recently!

(also I can still make myself cry instantly via a headcanon I created for them ages ago and that's gotta count for smth 😹)

Finished my re-reading of New Moon and I’m in an ocean of feels and no land in sight. Des notes:

Edward leaving was definitely necessary and impactful. But Meyer’s execution…could have been better. Jasper’s attack being the catalyst is meaningful, but not powerful enough, maybe? It works on the level of foreshadowing and relationship tension. I’m fully convinced Bella could have talked Edward into staying with her had Edward given her the chance. I think Victoria returning should have been the catalyst…except that the Cullens and Bella believe that Victoria was after Edward. That would change everything. Edward would definitely urge his family to relocate and hunt Victoria down, leading her away from Forks and Bella. When Bella resists, that’s when he decides for the clean break. Most of New Moon would remain the same, with the slight change of Bella being horrified at Edward’s possible demise at the hands of Victoria (cue nightmares on that front). And then of course Laurent returns and tells Bella that they got it all wrong: Victoria was really after Bella all along (either she changed her mind or her tracking Edward was a feint). Bella would be relieved because now she knows Edward was safe, Victoria is after just her (typical Bella logic). It would also work re: Romeo and Juliet retelling.

That said, the anti argument of Edward being stupid for leaving Bella when Victoria is out and large is still dumb. For one thing, he didn’t know Victoria would return. No one did. Victoria’s return is a mid-book plot point. For another, he was hunting down Victoria anyway, which he wasn’t good at.

Also, also: Bella believing Edward didn’t love her anymore so easily was way too convenient for me. Psychologically true to her character, yes (the insecurity) but…this is the same Bella who could tell Edward was lying in Book 1 at a few weeks’ acquaintance, right? Who could tell when Alice and the Cullens were keeping stuff from her? I guess homeboy really hit her where it truly hurts. At some level Bella just wanted to believe it.

Bella and Jacob being bros and Jacob reading her better than Edward and Bella lowkey crushing should make me want to ship them…but I still don’t, lol. It’s hard to describe; there’s the bro-ing, for one thing. Their banter is pleasant, but not very deep or significant or even charged with any kind of tension. That, and Jacob does become more jerkish as a werewolf, if only because of Bella’s love for the Cullens. Interestingly enough, Bella also has no problem arguing and getting angry with Jacob; she explicitly dislikes werewolf!Jacob’s rudeness and hostility. Contrast that with her great tolerance of Edward’s temper or her inability to get angry with him for a long length of time. Homegirl really got the ✨fascination✨, didn’t she?

Also…Bella really struggles to accept the werewolves fully, doesn’t she? She is still scared of them even when she finds out they aren’t the ones killing hikers, even in Eclipse. She also gives a lot of credence to the idea that Jacob has been murdering the hikers (!!!). Bella is a vampire girl through and through. I don’t dislike it, though; had Meyer really made Bella ditch Edward and the Cullens and truly be a wolf girl, that would have killed the series for me.

I am still convinced that even had Edward had returned later and Bella and Jacob were in a relationship, Bella would have still returned to him. Ditto if she had met and befriended Jacob before she met Edward. I guess it would have been another Alina-Mal-Darkling debacle, except that knowing Bella she would have beelined for Edward the moment he flashed his crooked grin at her. Possibly hate herself for doing poor Jacob dirty, but oh well. Look at Sam and Emily, they’re the same. I wonder if there a fanfic on that AU? I actually would be interested in reading it.

Speaking of which, the Sam/Emily and Bella/Edward parallels begin here!!! Bella can’t even hang around with Emily with Sam there. With Leah as the Jacob, of course. Only imprinting fate can untie this knot, alas.

“Felix and Demetri were both of slightly olive complexion—it looked odd combined with their chalky pallor.” Unless Meyer means their features are ethnic while their skin is pale, POC vampires are canonical from New Moon on at the very least. So why do I hear from about Meyer’s supposed “vampires can only be pale-white because venom sucks out melanin?” racism? Did she actually say that or is that a fandom myth? Regardless, it’s contra canon, and Breaking Dawn debunks it entirely.

I guess I am ambivalent about Meyer’s decision to play up the Volturi’s coded villainy (yeah, I’m a fan of them, they’re fascinating). In-universe, they are very much a necessary amoral/legal body. But it does fit into the series’ anti-colonialist politics as a whole (evil white European vampire police vs. good American whites vs. morally pure natives).

The most beautifull part of the series still has to be the journey back to Forks. Bella refuses to shut her eyes just so that she doesn’t miss a moment with him and Edward holds her and kisses her every so often…it’s so damn soft

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Bella convinced Edward being with her means she’s dead/dreaming is funnier than most comedies. For a girl that gets a lot of male attention Bella has the most pessimistic view of her charms. Her narration is definitely unreliable in that sense—no doubt that is the core behind the mindless anti hate of “some basic bitch pulling all these hunks, unrealistic!!” shit. Meyer is very good in keeping the objective truth all subtext, but freakin’ Rosalie in Eclipse calling her pretty is revealing enough.

“Before you, Bella, my life was like a moonless night. Very dark, but there were stars—points of light and reason…And then you shot across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly everything was on fire; there was brilliancy, there was beauty. When you were gone, when the meteor had fallen over the horizon, everything went black. I think writing fic is mostly making stuff up, even the most canon compliant fic is technically made up and therefore not canon in the traditional sense. And with that logic all fic is made up, and I release you to go wild in your fanfic writing dreams.

Yeah like I definitely agree, it's all just a case of degrees of separation from canon - unless you're writing for the show you're not writing truly canon fic, and even some of the show writers kinda fail at canon compliance lmao.

But tbf different people have different limits for how far they'll go and in what circumstances, and we all have our different preferences in terms of canon compliance (and our own different interpretations of canon to comply to, for that matter. Like straight Hawkeye is technically more canon compliant in terms of creator intent lol but you won't catch me reading anything where Hawkeye is straight.)

So yeah, everyone should definitely write whatever fic they want regardless of canon! But I do have my own personal limits in terms of what lines I want to cross, what's more flexible vs what I can't change without losing interest, even if it's in service to an otherwise interesting scenario.

Like to put my preferences another way, I would be more inclined to write magical AU dubcon featuring a love potion or smthn as a way to facilitate trainwreck Hawk/BJ/Peg, than I would, say, write Hawkeye agreeing to that triad because he's naive enough to think it's actually a good idea, or he loves BJ so much that he'll accept an unbalanced relationship, or he doesn't think he deserves better, etc. That's not My Hawkeye.

(Actually tbf the one non-AU way I think it could work is leaning into Hawkeye quitting his career post-canon in passive giving-up-on-everything depression, maybe his dad dying to make it even worse, and BJ innocently taking advantage, believing he's taking care of him and helping Hawkeye recover when really he's just emotionally manipulating him into becoming his second wife and giving up on his career forever.)

(Or maybe if Hawkeye lost his license...? Alcoholism, or being outed could do it easily. I feel like that could destroy him enough that he'd just cling to anything anyone offered. At least for a while.)

okay, i hate making posts like this, it makes me feel gross and i hate upsetting people with this stuff, but today i'm truly eight thousand miles beyond my breaking point.

the mess in my inbox, constantly accusing me of copying and stealing from aj @thegayfromrulid, needs to stop. it's borderline harassment at this point. and neither of us are okay with it. every single time i post a fic - or even an edit, or a cosplay!! - i receive anons telling me that i stole the idea from aj. regardless of the idea, regardless of the form, regardless of my own inspirations.

this has been happening for nearly two years now. it started during pride week of 2021, which is why i didn't upload for every prompt that year. it happened to coincide with a time when aj and i weren't talking, though i'm not sure if the anon(s) knew that, and i didn't want to reply and start drama, nor did i want to outstay my welcome in the event.

since then, there have been pauses, but it always starts again. my band au is apparently copying his, more than just a fling and don't want to miss a thing are apparently copies of rosebud (despite having very little in common aside from being gay family fics), perfectly imperfect is apparently copying one of his sugulis oneshots - me writing sugulis in general is apparently copying aj, despite the fact aj literally said his first sugulis fic was inspired by one i'd previously written!!

i actually deleted a oneshot i write about kazuto and suguha, where i poured a lot of my own personal feelings into it - a lot of my bpd sugu content is incredibly personal in this way. i love sugu and kazuto's relationship (not romantic) because it makes me feel so understood and less alone. someone made the connection that this oneshot had been inspired by conversations between myself and aj and our relationship, and the asks i received were so nauseating i won't even bother vaguely describing what they contained. and still, i didn't want to humiliate myself posting it, and i didn't want to start drama, so i deleted the ask and tried to move on - i didn't sleep until three that morning, and was violently ill with ptsd terrors triggered by the ask i'd received. i deleted the oneshot the next day.

today i reached my breaking point, when an anon accused me of stealing an update to both don't want to miss a thing and other shades of blue. both of those updates were incredibly personal to me. i recently suffered a miscarriage that has been harrowing and nearly impossible to cope with, and so i included those fears in don't want to miss a thing. other shades of blue is entirely inspired by a relationship i lived through and (barely) survived, with my ex-fiance. things in that fic are altered and dramatised for the sake of fiction, but the core of the story is my own experience.

aj and i are both writers. we both want to see people write their stories and share their stories. no two people will have the exact same interpretation of a scene, character or series, nor will two people have the exact same words to express those thoughts. it's part of what makes fandom enjoyable and beautiful - seeing the same characters a million different ways under a thousand different lights.

aj is someone i've always held an immense amount of respect for, as a person, as a writer and as a friend. i continue to love and support his fics as i can, but ironically enough, i don't read that much fanfic these days - half of the things i'm being accused of plagiarising are being first introduced to me by those accusations.

this has also extended to saying i'm vague posting about aj, or implying that i'm spiteful towards him in my posts. aj and i disagree on things (these days, it's usually the anime adaption, progressive and mito) but i would never go as low as to make hateful posts about someone i consider a friend, especially over a fucking ANIME. i've received rape and death threats from people saying they hope i'm sexually assaulted by a mito cosplayer or a eugeo cosplayer, or even an ENTIRE FUCKING FANFICTION in my inbox graphically describing the idea of multiple people i consider friends in this fandom assaulting and murdering me. i need you to understand how fucking detached from reality you have to be to write that kind of thing, because you can "justify" it by accusing me of copying fanfiction, or because i dislike a character and you perceive that to be an insult to a blogger you, in all likelihood, do not know nearly as well as you like to think you do.

i am begging, begging you, whoever you are, please stop. you can support him, you can dislike me, i honestly don't care - i do actually, i care entirely too much, but one person or one group disliking me quietly is far preferable to the abuse i receive in my inbox on a weekly basis. please. stop.

  “He sent separate invitations.” Simon said, blankly. They were even on separate stationery; an official-looking albeit pastel blue letter decorated with what Simon assumed was his own fabricated royal heraldry, and some kind of diaphanous artisanal paper pressed with tiny flowers and silver sparkles.

  “He gave me a photo, too.” Fionna added. “But, um, I don’t think it’s the kind of photo you can show people without asking.” She was clearly a little unsettled, but not enough that Simon felt completely secure in the situation. He supposed that a young woman used to reading fantasy romances, without the prior experience of… that situation, would find the Winter King’s offer appealing.

  Yet, Simon felt a disgusting magnetism tugging at his guts, an embedded fish hook he’d forgotten about. He’d been thankful that they left so quickly, really. Not only because he found his double deeply uncanny to interact with and watch, but because also present was a sort of dizzy, nauseated attraction. He wasn’t sure if it was sexual or some kind of psychological glitch, produced by gazing too long into a distorted reflection. “The call of the void” was the only phrase that felt appropriate to describe it. He didn’t know what the equivalent of jumping off a cliff would be in this situation, though.

  “Well, we’re certainly not going to dignify that with a response, are we? That would be… ugh.” He grimaced. “It would be insane. Such a poor decision. Right?” Did it sound like he was trying to convince himself?

  “I don’t know.” Fionna said. She turned the letters over, giving hers a few inquisitive sniffs. “Cake has been bugging me to go on a road trip so she can shapeshift into a catwoman and pretend her name is on the apartment lease for a few days. Also she wants to bang this one werewolf dude, which is probably the main thing.”

  “You want to leave your house so your cat can have sex in private?”

  Fionna shrugged. “She’s my roommate.”

  “Ah! That’s what I was wondering about.” Winter lightly grabbed the roll of fat hanging over Simon’s boxer briefs, and Simon found himself frozen in what he assumed (and hoped) was outrage as his alternate self’s chilly hands roamed exploratorily across his paunch and under his shirt. Finally, Simon came to his senses with a horrified gasp and pushed the curious set of hands away from him.

  “What the fuck?” Simon choked out. Even after living through years in an apocalyptic wasteland, he rarely felt a need to drop F bombs, largely due to being kind of a nerd. But this… Sure, fine, he would accept a sex vacation with this unsettling hybrid of him and Ice King and… what? An anime love interest? But for some reason his boundary was at that mindfuck man touching his stomach. Even his dick would have been better. But you don’t touch a person’s fucking stomach. That’s so messed up. Or maybe he was messed up and that was why he felt these things so strongly. Either way. Not cool.

  “Sorry!” Winter said brightly, with no hint of remorse. “I was just wondering if you still had a little belly like we did during our antiquarian, pre-crown era. I’ve adopted a more ergonomic form these days, but I do miss it sometimes… And I wasn’t able to get a good look at you last time when you were changing into your suit!”

  “You were watching me change?!” Simon was starting to wonder if maybe he wasn’t any better than Ice King after all. In fact, maybe he was worse, since now he had self awareness… Well, a degree of self awareness.

  “Oh, don’t be so offended! Sure, it’s a little creepy, but you need to understand that you’re just so cute, I have to be a little creepy sometimes, or I’ll basically die.” He leaned down to Simon’s eye level, still smiling. “But you know that! Because funny enough, I decided to see what I can remember about that Betty girl… and you know what?”

  Simon didn’t respond. Beyond how awful it was to hear him say her name with so little respect, there were a number of possible memories he could be referring to and none of them reflected well on him. Objectively, though, why would he be ashamed? He hadn’t done anything that crossed actual physical boundaries, not like peeping on someone naked behind a dressing screen that, in retrospect, seemed like it may have been painted with a motif of nude men being fucked by giant swans. (But that was something to investigate and unpack another day. The screen, specifically, not his unrooted sexual shame.) They were just thoughts. Thoughts and a few entirely self-directed physical actions in the privacy of his own home, which he would never attempt again now that he was more fully aware of the fragility of the human body.

  “I remember she touched our hand, and that’s how we met. And I remember that before we even went on our first date, I- we, Simon, thought about how her hand felt, didn’t we? And like, immediately our brain went to her choking us! Wow, we jerked off to that like crazy, huh? Pretty messed up!” 

  He winced. Well, at least that was a relatively tame entry from his mental archives. Fionna told him (with much consternation) that choking was basically considered mainstream these days. But there was the issue of his tone. And body language. Simon couldn’t tell if he- the other he, god this was semantically and psychologically weird, was disgusted with himself or… what? Everything he was saying sounded inappropriately playful. But clearly he was capable of regulating his- oh, fuck. The grim realization dawned on him. This is how he acts when he’s horny.

  Simon knew why he was ashamed, now. Because he was talking to someone with his same brain, as frozen and fucked as that particular copy of it was. The Winter King knew exactly how he felt about himself and those desires, it was just that, maybe he was able to process them better? Or had too little impulse control to feel shame? He couldn’t quite put his finger on what was going on in that vacant, fluffy-haired head yet.

  He still couldn’t bring himself to say anything. He realized how stupid and ineffectual he must have looked, sitting paralyzed and probably red-faced on a quilted velvet vanity stool with his pants unbuttoned. He hated himself for it, and that made it harder for him to move, or even make a disapproving sound. It was like his self-consciousness was so focused it was burning. He couldn’t even tell if he hated what was happening or if, well, something else was going on. Or worse; both scenarios applied.

  “What I’m getting at here is…” Winter simply continued tugging at Simon’s clothes like he were a doll as he spoke, industrious and cheerful. “I’m very well-acquainted with what makes you ‘tick’, so to speak. And if your mind works the way mine used to… you’re not very confident with girls, are you? Talking about bedroom matters. So I thought I would be the perfect Cyrano to express your deepest desires to your sweet lady love! Although, I suppose this would be a production that ends with Roxane viciously sexually dominating both of our heroes.”

  He felt himself becoming hot and sensitive as the Winter King helped him change, still rattling on about their shared sexual fantasies. Yes, he’d come here for the express purpose of having polyamorous sex with the man, but it had just seemed like something he would neutrally experience to broaden his horizons and spend time with Fionna, like when he agreed to take that dubious catfish noodling class held in a culvert runoff that Betty insisted would “provide valuable texture” to their lived experience. But, now that he was examining himself more closely… Was he really telling himself that he was going to be physically intimate with another man- not just another man, another him, just to have a story to tell later? Regardless, his hands were dexterous and gentle, and being paid physical attention to while praised verbally was activating certain chemical processes in his body.

  “There we go! Look, we’re so pretty.” The king dragged Simon bodily to an ornate full-length mirror so he could properly admire himself. If his muscles weren’t responding before, now it felt like they were locking up. He had been coerced into some kind of black fuzzy outfit (he wondered for a moment if it was the skin from one of those megafauna penguins he’d seen on the grounds) involving a cupless corset that tied with a thick ribbon just below his navel, uncomfortably emphasizing the soft swell of fat there, and. Something resembling pants? Legwarmers? They weren’t attached to his underwear in any substantial way, that much was clear. “I notice you looking at the pants! Those are for modesty. See? I just want you to feel comfortable.”

My AUs:

Total Drama Omori (TW: suicide, sh, blood, horror)

This AU, as the title says, is an Omori AU with total drama characters and me and my friend @ragefulbutsweet OCs! It's alot like the original Omori story, but has certain changes in general since everyone still pretty much acts like their original selfs, plus some relationships "changed" and there is a bit more content/ context in this version. There would also come sometimes in which I think more gameplay wise and explain it like it was a real videogame! The specific tags for this AU are 'Total Drama Omori AU' 'TDO' 'TDOAU'.

Ever After High AU (title and tags in progress):

This AU is still in it's concept phase and I dunno when I get to work on it more but I won't give up on it! This AU is basically total drama characters in the Ever after high roles. And I warn anyone already for those who do not like the ship: Yes this is a Noco focused AU with Noah in the main role. The story is more slice of life with the main Focus of Noah, at the beginning Noelle, figuring out he is actually trans. I am still working on the story's but stay tuned for more! The tags for this AU are Ever after high AU and Eahau

Pokemon AU:

This Au actually happened out of the blue ngl, while thinking how a game like this would look like! Anyway This AU takes basically almost, if not all TD Characters and turns them into Pokemon. The Region is named after the camp so it's the Wawanakwa Region (This feels werid to write XD). While still in planning this might become a Y/N Story, with the goal to become the next Pokemon master! This AU has the specific Tag Pokemon AU.

Story's:

A story I am currently writing on (And hopefully finish like I want to) Is called 'Curiosity kills cats' and is based around @eavee-ry 's Island of the slaughtered AU and is about my OC Edith going to the island to figure out if these ghosts are real or not. I won't say more it's a surprise and will be released when The chapters are all done!

Original Characters:

The first (and currently only fleshed out character) of mine is Edith. She was first made out of the IOTS AU and just after getting into TD more did I put her into more Canon TD stuff (which makes it more AU stuff in a way) Anyway Edith has a specific passion for finding and proofing if the ghost storys on the internet she sees, are truly real or not! She has a more closed of personality but is very polite and humble but easily gullible and naiv.

writer questions!

nobody tagged me but I love this crap and am technically a writer so lets do it.

1. what’s your favourite genre to write?

Oooooo romance obviously, but more specifically I like writing fics that focus a lot on character analysis? 

2. do you pull inspiration from real-life, or do you pull things from other books/fanfic?

I write a lot of AUs, but I do get a lot of inspiration from songs. I’ll also work in headcanons I see on tumblr and stuff 

3. do you tend to write one-shots, short stories, or longer things?

I always want to write multi-chapter fics, but struggle to finish them. It’s a goal of mine to write more one shots instead of dedicating myself to 20k+ fics.

4. do you prefer description or dialogue?

DIALOGUE!!! I used to be obsessed with writing texting fics which gave me a lot of experience with dialogue, while leaving my description skills to suffer.

5. favourite fanfic/book of all time?

Bro. Impossible question, but my current favourite book is The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. My favourite series is Six of Crows or  The Raven Cycle.

Not successfully. If I start another fic the first one won’t be touched again til I’ve finished my new fic if ever again.

Since I was 14 so almost 9 years, but that has definitely not been continuous. I’ve gone years without writing anything.

9. do you tend to write more during the morning, afternoon, or evening?

I get an idea and write whenever I can until it’s either done or I’ve gotten distracted rather than having a set time of the day. 

10. do you prefer to post your wip chapter by chapter, or do you prefer to wait until your wip is 100% finished before posting?

I prefer to finish everything first because I’ve found I won’t finish otherwise. Besides I like being able to go back and change stuff.

Considering you are a fanfic writer and having issues with Owl House, did you ever consider possibly making a rewrite fanfic of Owl House?

Okay so A: I have both the Crow House and Little Miss Rich Witch that could be seen as that. However... Both of those works were started and conceptualized as celebrations of what I liked about The Owl House with tweaks that made them able to be more to my style and interests. Despite Crow House being a swap AU, I didn't bring attention to how Boscha's strength is actually a problem for her. Actually hurts people. I just used what is Willow's defining trait in my opinion to amplify Boscha's aggression and make it a tragedy. For Rich Witch, I literally made less than three weeks I got into the fandom because I liked themes I was playing with but canon straight up got in the way or was a little too unclear for certain aspects to be explored fully in Power of Love despite just how large that story was and was going to be. One of those big aspects was Amity's friends so Azu's relationship with her friends, especially Igni who is the stand in for Boscha, is important to the story and so is her becoming a better friend and person in general.

B: Frankly I think a straight rewrite of TOH from me would look a lot like like The Power of Love, especially as it was written before S2 mostly so was playing with the potential of the characters before that potential was damaged irrevocably, but even more bloated so as to include things like the introduction of the world, extending Amity's arc out more, including Eda and King some more, etc. like that. Part of this is because, as I've talked in the past, you can't really change a lot about TOH without losing its core identity. Would you recognize something as TOH without Hexide? Without Eda and King and their plot (which is Rich Witch effectively with a main character swap)? It is way easier than you think it is to just make an entirely new story even with similar elements.

C: I... Just wouldn't want to. I HATE fix it fics and that's what most rewrites come down to. Making a different twist like a Swap AU, especially an extensive one, is different from a fix it fic but at this point I think a rewrite of TOH from me, at least in fanfiction form, would come as too angry. Include too many changes frankly so at best it would just be an original story that isn't written as well because I'm leaning on the elements that make fanfiction easier, or it's just my blogs but turned into a story that would very quickly turn into a giant circlejerk and I don't like doing that. The closest I've truly come to a fix it fic with TOH is that there's a chapter in Power of Love that I wrote right after Escaping Expulsion because I had to wash out the taste of canon Odalia with my Odalia. And even that kind of worked to show an Amischa moment, love between Amity and her mother and the stresses that becoming the new Emperor's Coven Head (something that never happens in the show and is a personal pet peeve of mine pretty severely), even with changes that led to Lilith also being the EC head again alongside Odalia, so it wasn't just bitter and angry even if those emotions fueled it at first.

D: It would never get finished. Not because of my normal mental health stuff but because I cannot write something I hate. A fix it story is always motivated by anger. That works for a one off or a single chapter. Honestly, it feels like some of the motivation for TOH where there's a very real feeling of "Wow, these writers just HATE the fantasy genre, don't they?" For how I write though, where I have to connect to my emotions genuinely, thus triggering my anxiety and depression half the time, anger can't last. Not for as long as a rewrite of TOH, a series that to be rewritten properly would take hundreds of thousands of words, probably over a million (guess how I long I think Rich Witch will be by the end of its run) and that is a long, LONG time to be angry. And it would bleed into the writing. The characters would be angrier. More easily upset. More volatile. It wouldn't be fun for ANYONE.

Hell, as a side note, I've explicitly said that it's not anger that fuels me to make all these blogs about TOH. It's that TOH is genuinely interesting to talk about and good for teaching. Yes, anger is what brought me here theoretically but I do try to be fair to the show because pure vitriol over and over again isn't useful for anyone, just pure praise isn't either.

E: Even if I did a strict rewrite, followed as much of the show as I possibly could... My writing style is just antithetical to the show. I talked about needing to tap genuinely into my emotions after all. That makes my writing INCREDIBLY sincere. I cannot half ass my writing much of the time. My worst chapters usually come from my brain going "Let's wrap this up because the characters actually wouldn't act like this or go the direction we originally planned so we'll need to figure something else out." This also leads to some of my best chapters I think but it's the exact opposite of TOH's meta commentary and shifting characters hard just to make a concept work. I could literally never write Wing it Like Witches because I WOULD NOT ever write that Amity, Luz, Eda and Lilith are ALL capable of being sports stars. That's too homogeneous and is actively against at least half of the character's cores that are involved.

It all effectively means that even if I tried to rewrite TOH, it would just come across as a distinctly different story. And if I'm gonna do that, I'd rather just throw off the shackles of the show entirely and write my own. Almost like I'm an original writer or something alongside my fanfic work.

Funny thing happened to me recently.

Twitter was on fire a few weeks back when a lady who runs a podcast about being a better writer tweeted about how shitty fanfic is and how "bleak" it is that young writers are cutting their eyeteeth on it. She got massively, massively dunked on, which I’m sure ruined her week but was pretty great for the spectators, but this story isn't about her.

I was clicking around in the discussion, and I found a guy who agreed with a lot of her points, and had tweeted like, "Good thing this lady's got everyone talking about fanfic, maybe it will drive traffic to MY new article about how terrible fanfiction is!"

YOU GUYS. THIS ARTICLE.

A jeremiad is a literary form named for the Hebrew prophet Jeremiah. It is a work in which the author bitterly laments the corrupt and immoral practices of their times, and preaches about how this break from humanity's more innocent past will lead to society's immediate downfall.

And this article's subheading is literally, "Fan culture’s endless search for “content” is leading us into artistic poverty."

You can read it here, but the basic gist is: Fandom used to be about creativity and telling new stories, but now it's just about sucking up whatever derivative drivel Disney wants to sell us and never demanding better from corporate mass media. Fans are slaves to capitalism and never resist being monetized or economically exploited!

At which point I was like... not only has this dude failed to prove that there was an Edenic "before" point, especially since he himself points out that Sherlock Holmes fans in the 1890s were clamouring for Arthur Conan Doyle to produce more content the same way Star Wars fans want new eps of The Mandalorian, but also, have you fucking met modern fandom?

And like, I get that in, say, video game fandoms, there are a ton of fans who scream loudly when their newest Call of Duty game release is pushed back two weeks because it's not like the people making the thing need to eat or sleep, and when it’s out they scream at any reviewer who doesn’t give it 10/10. But this guy specifically comments on stuff like Sherlock, Star Wars, and slash fandom:

"[O]fficial shows or books could offer ambiguous homosocial/sexual relationships between characters with a nod and a wink, while counting on fans to generate the more explicit possibilities of Johnlock on Archive of Our Own. The [copyright owners] could therefore capture audiences hungry for homoerotic content without needing to create any themselves [...] these corporations have realized that the existence of fan-made slash fiction means they don’t need to actually include diverse relationships in official works."

So I got Big Mad and I tweeted about it. And the author found and replied to my tweet, defending himself.

I pointed out how bad his takes were, especially since fan communities have been a leading force in the push for more diverse media over the last decade and fan frustration over Sherlock and recent Star Wars movies IN PARTICULAR led to mainstream publishing houses putting out books like Claire O’Dell’s A Study in Honor, where Holmes and Watson are Black lesbians, Zen Cho’s The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water, a Rogue One Malaysia-inspired wuxia Baze/Chirrut love story, and Emily Skrutskie’s Bonds of Brass, the Finn/Poe space royalty AU the movies never gave us. I stayed civil, and I think I made some pretty good points.

Because, uh...

The magazine @ed me to say they’d buy my response article.

My word limit was 1600 because that was all they could afford to pay me for, so I had to cut out the part where my eyes rolled out of my head because this dude called some white guy who published a Sherlock Holmes pastiche in 1949 “the first truly archetypal ‘fan’“, but I’m mostly over that. I worked out some of my rage and cut my initial 3400 word draft down. I tried to focus on the facts.

I found that the characterization and the attention to detail the author put into the story is what made it a truly distinguishable and unique fic that allowed it to rise to the top. It is worth every kudos, comment, bookmark, and more. Highly recommend.

This darker fic follows Akaashi as he deals with his life as a prostitute, and how Bokuto comes in and is able to change it for the better. I feel sometimes that heavy topics such as the trauma from sex work are really misrepresenting in fanfiction, but the author does a great job of portraying it in a real way and not romanticizing it at all. I loved to watch love bloom for Akaashi in the cracks of his tumultuous life, because he deserves everything <333

In Another Life by LittleLuxray⭑

As the highest-rated Haikyuu fanfic on ao3, this work is a monument and will go down in Haikyuu history. That being said, it honestly did such a number on me that I think it deserves the hype. This hospital au revolving around Akaashi and Bokuto’s budding relationship is truly heartbreaking, to say the least. Read it at your own risk, and oh, you can find references to it under almost any Bokuaka related post.

This rollercoaster of a fic, set in a universe where Oikawa and Iwaizumi meet in a bar, is funny, profound, and awe-inspiring all in one. The relationship dynamic between the two is very cute and well-done. I highly recommend this one if you are a sucker for some good, old Iwaoi, and I also love the side pairings. Just, overall, a really nice and satisfying read.

the courtship ritual of the hercules beetle by kittebasu(chanyeol)

This fic is a favorite on tik tok, from what I’ve observed. I haven’t read it yet, but when people discuss it, they always commend the writing and the non-linear narrative. I have personally not read this one yet, but I have seen people rave about this one because of the emotional impact it had on them. It seems to me that the writing and emotions on this one are its claims to fame, so definitely check it out.

Talk about raved about fics, I have seen this one mentioned countless times on various platforms. This Iwaoi fic is set in a Vegas/Japan fusion setting, which immediately caught my eye. The premise of a heist fic also is probably what caught people's attention the most, because what is better than an Iwaoi heist fic (nothing. nothing is better.) I recommend this if you want a bit of a longer fic that had a tumultuous plot and a wild romance.

Oh. My. God. I simply cannot with this fic. It turned me inside out, upside down, and threw me into the void. Please, if you have one singular brain cell, you will read this fic. This narrative about Sakusa’s life and his relationship with his sexuality is a masterpiece. I cannot recommend this one enough. You do not want to miss out on this genuine piece of art. 

Stick With You by lettersinpetals

This fic follows Sakusa and Atsumu as they get stuck in the Philippines over quarantine. Honestly, if you want an enemies to lovers that really goes in depth into the trope, this is the one for you. One of my favorite things about this fic is the inclusion of the Filipino language, and I found myself reading all of the translations at the end. I would recommend this if you want a longer, feel good Sakuatsu fic. Also, lettersinpetals is a Sakuatsu classic author.

the Terminal Curiosity series by favspacetwink and moonlumie

This fic is probably the notorious BDSM fic, which I’m glad because it portrays it in a very consensual and safe way. I’m personally not into that stuff, but I still was able to enjoy it for the plot and the amazing writing. I definitely recommend it if you are looking for something with BDSM components with some focus on their relationship dynamics too. I actually did really enjoy this fic, and I think the way their relationship kind of progressed backward was really, really good. Even if BDSM isn’t your cup of tea, I still recommend checking this one out and reading the tags to see if it is something you’re willing to give a chance too, because, for me, it paid off.  

KUROKEN

the galaxy is endless (i thought we were, too) by cosmogony

I have yet to read this fic. I am genuinely too afraid. Similarly to In Another Life, I constantly see people discussing to the degree in which this fic destroyed them, and honestly after In Another Life, I don’t think I could handle another one. This soulmates au has crushed so many people throughout the fandom that if you want someone to give you more detail on why it’s the saddest thing ever, you probably wouldn’t have to look very far.

Of Monsters and Men by shions_heart

This longer fic follows Kuroo, Kenma, and many others through a demon hunter/buffy the vampire-style universe, with magic, drama, and much more. If you are looking for a fantasy, action-packed, beautifully written fic, this is definitely one you should check out. The romance and action combination will always be chefs kiss, superb.

Fata morgana.*  - teen/6k, pst s9 finale. very bela centric and i love it, she finds cas looking for dean in hell.

Redemption Road -misc/600+k. an incredibly long fic from a collaborative writing group back in the day. canon divergent from the end of s6 on, has a cool take on godstiel and the leviathans, as well as the lovecratian mythos connection. ngl when i reread it i only made it about 28% in but imo the casual reader can actually stop around there, the rest concerns a lovecraftian apocalypse that is still good (i think i don’t remember it very well) but not required to enjoy the first half. if you prefer i have an ebook version i can send you on gdrive.

Someone Who's Feeling For Me* - mature/45k, s12. they run into lisa braeden and dean thinks cas is into her while cas thinks dean still likes her. treats lisa way better than the show ever did and the miscommunication is pretty funny rather than annoying.

a turn of the earth - mature/95k. time travel fic where cas from s10 keeps showing up in deans life from a few years before s1 to right before the hellhounds take his soul.  slow burn, good character study, and at one point cas punches the dad in the face and it rules.

On the Wings of War - teen/85k, canon divergent s5. dean accidentally becomes the Horseman of War. plays fun, fast and loose with biblical lore, michael has some rights.

Named - mature/95k, alternate s5. EXTREMELY blasphemous in a fun sexy way. manages to predict metatron almost to a T. there’s one major character death and its literally jesus christ, everyone is very sad about it and it sets the rest of the story rolling. an alternate interpretation of cas’ mission to raise dean from hell which had me on the floor. ngl its kind of misogynistic at points, but its from 2010 and tracks with late oughts-2010 spn (sorry anna the author did you dirty here:/).

The Girlfriend Experience - explicit/15k. uhhh i don’t normally rec or even read smutty stuff unless someone i know is specifically asking for it but this has stuff like sam trying to be a good ally and dean thinking holding hands with cas is ‘kinda gay :/’ minutes after having gay sex with him.

i crippled your heart a hundred times - explicit/19k, s8. cas confesses his feelings and dean spends a long time getting his head out of his ass about it. truly hits different after the actual confession, despite being written six years early it feels like its actually what could have gone down more or less if the writers weren’t talentless demons who hate us.

My Roots Take Flight** - mature/125k. reverse au where cas is a hunter and dean’s an angel...OR IS IT???? an alternate retelling of s4. tw for briefly being set in a psychiatric hospital/the hospital being mentioned somewhat frequently throughout the fic, plus more references to torture in hell and heaven than usual.

The One Thing You Can't Lose* - teen/4k.you know those posts about how cas is a super-strong super-tough ancient warrior but he just lets dean tug him around because he likes it? thats it thats the fic.

Hands, From Which All Things Are Built - teen/14k, post s8′s ‘goodbye stranger.’ cas is on the run with the angel tablet but keeps in touch with sam and dean by text, he and dean still manage to be terrible at Actual communication.

Autrement, Danger - or, The Account of an Exceedingly Long Day - mature/30k, post s11. a monster that takes the appearance of your soulmate leads to some wild miscommunications and dealing with years of repression, also dean gets to see cas’ true form which is always cool. tw for non-graphic mentions of underage sexual assault/sex work.

Down to Agincourt - mature/explicit/900++++k, endverse continuation. endverse!cas survives his encounter with lucifer and discovers another time-displaced dean from s7. i’ve only read the two of four parts but its really good, veeeeery slow burn, has a lot of fun oc’s and takes a rather surprising but (imo) entertaining and intriguing turn into Hellenic history and mythology. usual tw’s for endverse/endverse!cas but nothing graphic, it’s actually pretty light-hearted (relatively speaking of course).

Nothing Equals the Splendor** - explicit/8k, THEE finale fix it fic you’ve been waiting for! posits that the entire final episode was just a (very bad and lame) djinn’s vision.

like moses and batman and james dean - explicit/31k, post s8. explores dean’s trauma and internalized homophoba from his technically canon experience with sex work and its impact on his relationship with cas. the sex work itself isn’t really shown in any detail but it’s still a relatively heavy fic.

Crazy Diamonds - explicit/25k, s4/alternate s14. fresh-out-of-hell dean and dean from 10 years in the future are displaced from time and sent to each other’s present.

where the weeds take root - explicit/30k. au where the men of letters kick them out of the bunker and they accidentally move out into the country, get over their codependence and semi retire. featuring chicken coop building, sam volunteering at a dog shelter, gardening, and blissfully mundane domesticity.

No Resting Place - teen/6k. djinn dream fic, switches back and forth between cas’ dream of being married to dean and retired from hunting to the aftermath when he wakes up. tw for brief mention of suicide since, y’know, djinn dream.

any port in a storm - mature/52k. post s8 finale. cas and dean have to pose as a couple going through a rough patch for a case and actually deal with their emotional baggage, cas struggles with being human and metatron is up to stuff.

all this and heaven too* - explicit/7k. in the author’s own words ‘...a love letter to every trans person who ever projected onto Dean Winchester.’ absolutely unzipped me emotionally and theologically, its just. so good. tw for very brief mentions of internalized transphobia/dysphoria.

Because it is* - mature/6k, finale fix it. killing chuck does not bring back anyone back and the winchesters spend a very long time dealing with what they’ve lost, cas and dean SOMEHOW still manage to have signifigant communication issues even after the confession. tw for suicidal thoughts/brief attempt.

Vena Amoris and Other Old-Fashioned Bullshit* - teen/4k, s6. when cas fell for dean it automatically soulbonded/angel married them, shenanigans ensue when dean finds out during the angel’s civil war. funny and actually written back when s6 was airing so cas is still (or at least pretending to be) kind of an OP asshole which is fun.

Rinse, Repeat - teen/3k, s8. angsty character study of cas as he’s reprogrammed and trained to kill dean. not really dean/cas since its just cas’ pov of canon events but its beautifully written and ends with him snapping out of it through the power of love (also now a canon event!).

Emergence - explicit/59k, canon divergent after s11. dean meets a hunter he only recognizes as their friend claire novak’s missing father, but soon realizes he might be the answer behind the mysterious void in his memories and feelings (aka everyone’s memories of cas are completely wiped away for three years).
