I think if every Charlie fan saw him deliver the monologue at the end of this specific scene in such a raw, poignant way they would've bawled over. A gorgeous scene fantastically delivered by Charlie. Still living in my mind rent-free after almost 4 years:
So someone asked me for the recording I have of Betrayal, and since I have it uploaded now I thought I’d share it here in case anyone else wants it, too.
(Be forewarned that, as it was recorded by an audience member, the sound isn't always the clearest but you can still hear most it.)
My interpretation of different versions of Swan Lake:
Royal Ballet: classical core + contemporary touches, tragedy, expressive, power in play in addition to the traditional romance, Odette is fragile but with strong dignity, freedom in death
American Ballet Theatre: Classical core, more dramatic, more fairy tale like, very passionate Odette, freedom or death, all consuming love, love defeats evil even in death. Very heroic, very American.
Mariinski: Classical to the core… least expressive even in Russian standards. Impeccable technique. Almost no storytelling, only choreography. But impeccable technique. Happy ending, of course…
Bolshoi: Impeccable technique, somewhat more expressive than Marrinski. Tragic and depressive ending… Odette condemned in a body of a swan for all eternity.
Paris Opera Ballet: My personal least fav, the technique… ok maybe I’m just not into French ballet. But the PORT DE BRAS is just unbearable to me. Why do the sorcerer and the Prince have more chemistry??!!
i love you shirt in your selfie where did you get it?
Tysm anon! It's my favorite shirt EVER. It's also got the rest of the Defenders on it! I even wore my first one to Betrayal (the Broadway play Charlie was in) and to a special Marvel museum exhibit where I got to see the actual DD suit from the show!
I bought my original one years ago at Hot Topic when it came out in, iirc 2017. Sadly I lost that shirt to fiberglass this year and thought I was out of luck (though the shirt's at least framed). BUT I found Shirt 2.0 after searching Ebay and Mercari! It's a Men's shirt so keep that in mind for sizing, but for me it was an upside - the fabric is sturdy, and it never faded in all the years I had it despite all the washing and tons and tons of wear over the course of 5 years.
Queen Mother: Henry! I bore the weight of state affairs longer than you ever have. I have been your queen and I am your mother. You are answerable for the interests of a great Kingdom, not for your moods. You already gave far too much away to the King of France, at La Ferté Bernard. It is England you must think of, not your hatred - or disappointed love - for that man.
King: [in a fury] Disappointed love - disappointed love? What gives you the right, Madam, to meddle in my loves and hates?
Queen Mother: You have a rancour against the man which is neither healthy or manly. The King your father dealt with his enemies faster and more summarily than that. He had them killed and said no more about it. If Thomas Becket were a faithless woman whom you still hankered after, you would act no differently. Sweet Jesu, tear him out of your heart once and for all!
A royal descendant of the gods, Medea is a tragic, but also vilified figure from Greek legend. The lover of Jason, she was known for multiple murders – though some less popular versions of her legend do ascribe these killings to either Jason or accident. The worst, and most famous, of her crimes were recorded within Euripides’ play ‘Medea’ – the murder of her two children. The play was first performed in 431 BC.
“My life is over, dear friends. I’ve lost all joy. I want to die. The person who was everything to me, my own husband, has turned out to be the worst of men. This I know is true. Of all things with life and understanding, we women are the most unfortunate.”
