Gina: Hey Ash, what are you doing?
Ashlyn: texting Maddie that I'm cold and would like her to come over and nap with me after school.
Gina:
Ash: what? Can't a girl seduce her girlfriend into better sleeping habits in peace?
Gina: does that work?
Ashlyn: yes, and it will continue to work as long as no one tells Maddox that she's technically performing self-care.

spirit baby reading 🍼
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pile three:
🍼~ the sun could be significant here, the summer, outside activities, the pool, water. Someone could be a water sign or you’re meant to have a water sign child and they may really enjoy water activities or the summer months.
🍼~ Angel numbers: 557,665,666,781,888,99,200,11
🍼~ food could be really significant, vegetables, I’m getting eggplant as well. You could be working towards eating healthier or may have found you’re interested in holistic medicine or holistic health. Gut health could be significant as well.
🍼~ you could be pregnant already or manifesting being pregnant and may want to introduce more plant based meals during your pregnancy or eat a healthier more balanced diet. I do see a child who may like a lot of vegetables or may be good with lots of different food groups.
You could be manifesting a financial opportunity or are someone whose really work oriented as well. I’m seeing a job in social media or someone being a social media influencer. I’m hearing a baby here telling you that their arrival or their place in your life may give you more financial opportunities or add to your career. You could be interested in being a TikTok mom or even starting a YouTube channel or something of the sort. When I was channeling the message about food I thought about baby led weaning and how the moms make their babies cute plates of food so they can try different foods and different textures or that TikTok mom who makes meals for her baby and films her eating it and shares recipes and talks about if she liked it and how she responded to the different textures. I forget her name but you know what I’m talking about if you’re on TikTok the baby and her mom are very popular.
You could be worried about the outcome of a certain situation here I see a lot of anxiety regarding something you’re building or how capable or able you will be do to what you want to do moving forward within this upcoming season. You could be worried about money/finances or even just the possibility of having all that it is that you’re manifesting. You could be manifesting riches or prosperity, good long term relationships or breaking generational curses. All of these things that you’re manifesting you haven’t seen around you or you weren’t raised in an environment where these things were the norm but I’m hearing spirit and the baby telling you not to worry and that there will always be solutions.
You could be recovering from heart break or loss or there has been heart break or loss within your life that has really affected the way you see the world and how much you believe you’re able to have or how deserving of the things you want you are. Someone could’ve never seen real love or healthy relationships growing up and this is something that you want for yourself. Someone could have had bad luck with love and relationships in the past and you want a healthy relationship for yourself or are craving romantic love and partnership and you may need to be reminded that just because it’s been one way a long time doesn’t mean it will always be that way. Something that really helped me was putting myself in the mindset or putting myself in the energy of being open to and welcoming things that are very long term and serious. “I won’t be a gf/bf anymore, I’m going to be a wife” “I won’t be settling for short term, unhealthy relationships anymore because I am only going to receive healthy long term life commitments now.” Etc etc.
And, I see all of these things coming in for you if you manifest them right. You’re going to be looking at your life VERY soon and looking at how far you’ve come and how much you’ve gotten that you had been wishing for. All of this abundance, financial success/independence, emotional support from friends and in romantic relationships. I see with the nine of cups upright fulfillment and wish fulfillments being yours here. Right now at this moment you’re learning a lot of lessons and in the process of awakening so that you can apply what you learned to your life and teach others or guide others at some point. Someone could be coming into your life soon or you may meet someone whether this be a friend or a lover or a family member who may also collaborate with you and help you, support you, and build you up in the ways that matter.
There could’ve been some unfairness, or some lack of accountability that came from you or someone else. There could’ve been a situation that caused you to lose something, caused someone to walk out of your life or caused you to walk out of someone else’s and I see this potentially getting better as time progresses. Time heals all wounds and when something is taken from you the universe will bring you something else. When doors close, new doors will open. I see you needing to really turn inwards and become aware of your self limiting beliefs and behaviors so that you can become the person you want to be within your life and achieve the things that you want.
I always say you have to meet the universe half way. When we want something, when we ask the universe for something we have to decide to become of service to the universe ourselves, we have to do the inner work, we have to flourish and become better so that we can give back to the universe and give back to the other people who live on the earth who need our help and our support. I’m not talking about things just like charity or something and physical tangible ways of giving back to people and those in need I’m also talking about giving back wisdom, giving back solace, giving back love and guidance in exchange for the universe loving us unconditionally, guiding us, and bringing us peace and abundance for our hardship.
A new job opportunity or a new financial opportunity could be coming in for you as well as your manifestations. You could need to turn inwards and self isolate as well. You could be feeling called to take a break from social media or stop talking to some people around you or switch up the company that you keep and if that is the case then I advise you to take that step and do just that. There’s really a need to turn inwards and take accountability for our behavior, dig up trauma, dig up insecurities, understand the part we played in other peoples lives and the roles that people play in ours. Personal transformation and change is underway. And this is going to take a lot of purging. People going away, things coming to the service like insecurities and fears. Go do something great with your life. Go find out who you are and what’s really going on within yourself and within your mind so that you may improve and step into the energy of your higher self. He or she is waiting for you. All the things you dream of, there is a version of you who already has all of those things and has had them for a very long time. You wouldn’t dream of any of those things or desire any of those things if there wasn’t a version of you who already had them. Nothing can stop you but you.

Sunday 18/9
I think I’ve realised that I’ve relapsed pretty hard after doing so well at the beginning of this year. I think my celiac and gut issues were a distraction and I lost a little bit of weight after going GF and having gut issues so when I had to be weighed at the Dr I felt I was finally doing something ‘right’. I hadn’t get accepted that my weight will change and that’s ok!
When I got my period back after the pill I remember I literally ate whatever I wanted, granted I still had a lot of gut issues. When my gut issues started to settle I think is when I stated being able to eat more and hence the weight gain, which was literally 3kg and probably because I’ve hadn’t shit yet but it was so incredibly triggering, exactly what happened the last time I was weighed at the doctor and had gained weight. I started tracking, ignoring my dr and naturopath and doing more exercise and pretty everything that would just prevent my period from returning. My appointment with my naturopath on Friday was really good because I needed to just to told not to track. Idk why it seems to have more weight coming from a naturopath/nutritionist than a psychologist?
I’ve realised that what I feared was true, having celiac put a Band-Aid over my fears and the fact of lost a few kgs meant I wasn’t so afraid of losing weight but as soon as I gained it again I felt so out of control. The reality is Is that I’ve more or less maintained my weight +-3kg for at least 4 years and I’ve spent most of that eating whatever I want. The times I’ve tried to control it I ended up eating even more because of the mental restriction. I have to remember this next time I want to track, that all it does is cause more stress and makes me want to eat even more.
I have some fear about the fact I enjoy baking so much but then feel I like I ‘have’ to eat it all. I have fear about eating a baked good everyday even though I use ‘healthier’ recipes. 4 years ago I’d down an almond croissant or banana bread no issues and I didn’t gain crazy amounts of weight. I think I might try and make my baked goods nutrient dense as that reduces my fear a bit, but ultimately I know it’s better to satisfy my sweet cravings by just eating what I actually want! My goal is to one day get to this point! I have the nutrition knowledge now to implement gentle nutrition without overthinking and tracking everything!

OVERNIGHT OATS STORY
These past few days I've been making this overnight oats and boy oh boy it is scrumptious. Since I reached the age of 25 I've been struggling to maintain my ideal weight. The heaviest I've been was 68kg. My height is 5 feet 1 inches and my suppose ideal weight is 54kg. Way back 2015 I was able to reach that target but I don't really look good physically. I look like someone who has been terribly ill so I decided to gain some weight.
Fast forward, my decision to gain a little weight didn't go as plan. I lost track of what I eat and the era of "milk tea" has started. Plus the pandemic happened and the lockdown forced people to stay in their homes causing lack of activity. Another whammy is my gf loves to cook. She has a knack of copying recipes just by tasting the food. So whenever I crave for something like "empanda" or "leche flan", she can make it for me in an instant. That's when I reached my heaviest weight.
November 2021 I decided to do something about it. Although my motivation level kept on fluctuating, I finally commited to it. This time I know I badly needed to lose weight because I don't feel good about myself anymore.
The journey's been tough. My discipline is always tested. But thank god from 68 kg I am now at 59kg. I ran, I lift weights, and I watch my calories. I also see the difference when I lose weight way back 2015. This time I don't look sick.
Now what's the relevance of my overnight oats to my weigh loss journey? Well, it's the thought that you always have a healthier choice with food.

Vegan Mushroom Pasta

Vegan Mushroom Pasta by @lazycatkitchen 🍄  A delicious pasta recipe to try out!
.
💚 Please Follow Our Page to have such a mouth-watering 🍅 Recipes on Daily Basis
.
Recipe:
* 45 ml / 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, divided
* 1-2 garlic cloves, grated finely
* 2 tbsp pine nuts, to garnish
* 300 g / 10.5 oz chestnut mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
* salt and black pepper, to taste
* ½ tsp dry thyme
* 100 g / 3 oz fresh spinach
* 200 g / 7 oz spaghetti (GF if needed)
* 1 heaped tbsp nutritional yeast
* a splash of vegan white wine (optional)
* a good pinch of chilli flakes (I used fine Korean chilli flakes)
* 1 heaped tbsp capers, chopped
.
1. Put 2 tbsp of olive oil and grated garlic in a small bowl. Set aside to infuse.
2. Heat up a large frying pan. Add pine nuts and toast them on a low heat until lightly browned and fragrant. Make sure you stir them frequently as they tend to burn easily. Once done, remove from the pan and set aside.
3. Return the pan to the stove. Add 1 tbsp of olive oil and sliced mushrooms.
4. Allow the mushrooms to cook and caramelise in places, stirring them from time to time. Season with salt and pepper and dried thyme towards the end of the cooking time. Allow any water that the mushrooms release to cook out.
5. Take the mushrooms off the pan and add in fresh spinach and a good splash of water. Allow the spinach to wilt, then lift off the pan and chop roughly. Clean the pan for the next step.
6. Cook the pasta just short of al dente (the pasta I used takes 10 min to cool al dente, I cooked it for 8½ min) following the instructions on the packet saving 2 tbsp of cooking water just before you drain your pasta.
7. When pasta is about to be ready, heat up a heavy bottom frying pan on low heat. Once hot, add in the garlic-infused oil.
8. Gently cook the garlic for about 2 minutes, stirring the whole time, but do not allow it to brown as it will make your pasta taste bitter. If the garlic is sizzling too aggressively, turn the heat off (or take the pan off the heat if not using gas) and allow it to cook in the residual heat.
9. Add nutritional yeast, a good pinch of salt and splash of white wine (or pasta cooking water you saved) and allow them to cook in with the garlic oil for another minute.

I know everyone was joking about Team No GF, but I think that might be a deliberate theme this volume: how one functions with the temporary or permanent loss of a loved one. (The other theme is greek gods and I'm surprised no one has name the infamous archer and guardian of new mothers and childbirth, Artemis, but I digress).
Jaune lost a would be lover and turned into a self-destructive idiot. It took a real shock to his system, a moment of intense compassion, to break him out of it and realize that Pyrrha would never have wanted him to be suicidal over her. He reassessed and grew into a stronger, more considerate person. Now he focuses on his friendships, supporting his team, shielding them from harm. If romantic love is in his future, then it will come in due time.
Yang suffered abandonment, a very sore issue for her, but learned how to take a more objective stance and accept that another person's choices are affected by more than one relationship. Sometimes you just need to accept that you're legitimately a lower priority at the time, or that there may be factors you aren't aware of yet. She learned to cautiously extend trust rather than withdraw. Now, she's fighting her pattern of catastrophizing, this time under the belief that an idealist like Blake can only pair herself with another idealist (which is actually often a recipe for disaster). She fears loss but remains on task, watching out for her friends.
Ren has lived beside, grown with Nora for so much of his life, that she has become an integral part of him. We see that he is left almost unable to function without her, which is, um, bad. Moreover, between his father's last scolding and being exposed to the Atlesian idealization of aggressive attack that dismisses support members, he feels inadequate and defensive. But he is the rook's wall, the one who hides his team from danger (whereas Jaune shields). Trying to be something he's not denies his friends crucial support, but maybe he'll learn that the hard way, away from Nora.
Meanwhile, Nora's self-destructive over-reaching as she tries to fill the role of two people is just as maladaptive and leaves her crippled. They can overcome their codependency, but it will require self-awareness and honest communications as adults.
(Indeed, team JYR is the group's two most powerful supports and the versatile tank, separated from the main body. A dangerous situation).
Ironwood rejects love and it's destroying him from the inside out. My intuitive guess is that love for another person, an intense personal emotion, is what cost him part of his body. He has isolated and withdrawn to such a degree that he cannot tolerate being supported (ironwood is so dense that it sinks in water). Even Cinder's anger is healthier than his delusional disaffection.
Blake seems fine because she has experience with a (would be) lover also being a combat partner, the realities of separation. But, she has no practice with a lover who cares and doesn't realize how intensely Yang needs reassurance.
Ruby's love for her mother has suffered enormous damage, dealt by Salem, but she's uplifted by the love and support of her team. Perhaps no longer subconsciously following her mother might force Ruby to become an even more confident adult leader. Otoh, she has her perpetually interrupted love for Penny, who is being put in mortal danger yet again, and that might divide her focus in a time where it can't be.
Qrow was placed in a star-crossed situation, with someone who, in a different life, might have been a partner. Hope, perhaps some measure of infatuation, and Clover's semblance, all blinded him that the man ultimately represented everything that Qrow holds in contempt about Atlas and Ironwood. It's a horrible way to be reminded, to know something was almost within your reach.
Penny hasn't been permitted to love anyone except her father, because the man who funded her creation views her as untiring property deserving of no personal life. That said, she does care for Winter and they will come in conflict, an ugly state of affairs.
Who did Cinder(ella) love that drove her to hate those in social power to this extent? Who, in one version of the myth, was Artemis manipulated into killing? What might have made cinderella's fairy tale a tragedy? Who did she lose with such bitterness that allowed Salem to use Cinder as a weapon against shared enemies?
A bunch of little parallels to the conflict between Ozma and Salem.

Gluten Free, Vegetarian, Quick Fixes
If you're gluten free and vegetarian like myself, and also struggle with low spoons, its hard to get food that's good with enough protein and vitamins etc. Here are some good things I've learned: Make a trail mix. Mine usually contains: - chex (cinnamon kind) - gf pretzels - nuts, good ones with protein and good fat are almonds and cashews but those are a bit more expensive. Mixed nut containers or simply peanuts will do as well. - dried fruit such as dried pineapple, banana chips, and raisins. You can also add chocolate chips or yogurt covered raisins if you feel like splurging, but I tend to stick to the healthier versions. Rice. I cannot emphasize how great rice is. You don't need a rice cooker to cook it either. Get a big bag of rice, because it won't spoil if you keep it tight (so critters like mice and bugs don't get in). To cook 2 cups worth, which is about 4-6 portions depending on how hungry you are. -get four cups of water boiling in a med. saucepan -throw in two cups of rice (always check the package, but for most long-grain white or brown rice this is the ratio) -turn heat down to simmer (a low setting, but not too low that there's hardly any heat) -cover and wait about 7 or so minutes. You might want to check on it and stir every once in a while. To make it more nutritional, get a few bags of those frozen veggies you can microwave or some canned mixed veggies and pop one (or two, depending on size but usually one is plenty) in the microwave according to their directions Stir the veggies and rice, add salt and seasoning, you can also add (only about one to four tablespoons! be careful its SALTY) of soy sauce if desired these are just two recipes I use, the trail mix takes about 2 spoons and can't serve as a full meal, but rather snacks in between meals and at school or on the job to help keep you going. The rice takes about two spoons as well.

Introduction
Hello everyone! Long-time, no post. It seems appropriate that this blog, (which was originally started for a Food & Culture class I took in high school) would be brought back for a Nutrition Fundamentals course now that I’m in college studying Baking and Pastry Arts. This blog has always been about me trying and learning new things, and then sharing my take on how to make them approachable/replicable for anyone who comes across them.
Approachability is something that I think is incredibly important, especially when talking about nutrition (a topic so often misunderstood and misconstrued). For this reason, one of the topics in nutrition that I’m most interested in is genetics, culture, and environment play into individuals’ nutrition requirements. As North Americans, we tend to generalize our nutrition claims, making boldfaced assertions that assume there are one or two “correct” ways to eat for everyone.
I think, personally, this comes from our cultural “get there quick” mentality; it’s much easier to have a few cutter plans for being healthy (Princing, 2019)(how many of your friends have told you that you just have to try Keto because it worked for them?) than to look at each individuals needs and determine based on genetic predispositions, cultural preferences, and food access based on environment what will make maintaining a healthy lifestyle easiest for them.
Tumblr media
  [Karlsen, 2015]
Did you know that a study conducted by Cornell University in 2005 suggested the lactose intolerance correlates to whether your ancestors originated from a place that was able to “safely and economically raise dairy herds”, such as in most of Europe (Lang)? This is why many people of African and Asian descent have difficulty digesting milk – we weren’t genetically conditioned to consume it!
Tumblr media
 [Radhakrishnan, 2020]
Picking Credible Nutrition Websites
In the vein of needing to have more than just a generic, one-size-fits-all approach to health, it is important to know how to do your research. “Nancy’s Nutrition Nook” written by your Grade 3 Math teacher who just loves green smoothies might not be the best place to find information that details how you can reach your best self nutritionally.
 Finding a site/source that both suits you and is credible starts with the URL! This is often a really easy way to determine if the information is coming from a credible source. URL’s ending in .org, .edu, or .gov are preferred. These are usually owned by non-profits, higher-education institutions, and governments aka, places that will provide sound research to back up their claims (I got this tip from The University of Maryland) (n.d.).
  The next step to finding a credible website comes when you click through to the article/webpage. Who wrote the article? What are their qualifications? Are they an accredited Food Scientist with several published articles that you can find easily with a quick Google search? Or are they someone who just claims to be passionate about the subject? This might not mean their information is right or wrong, for either of the two potential authors listed, but it dictates to you what level of faith you should put in what their saying and how much further research you should do before taking their word as gospel.
Tumblr media
 [Morris, 2018]
And on that note, finding credible websites is all about the RESEARCH! Does the article you’re researching mention studies done by other organizations? Do they link to them or cite them properly? Do they make sweeping claims that they present as fact with no further back-up? How old are their references? Are they purposely choosing to cite a source from 5 years ago that was disproven widely 2 years ago? Are they trying to sell you something/who is their audience? (University of Maryland – Global Campus, n.d.)
  These factors are important to consider when determining who will provide you with the best and most reliable information for you to make choices regarding your health!
 Here is a quick analysis of two sites, both discussing “healthy diets”. One clearly indicates they have no medical knowledge, experience, or expertise, promotes products via Amazon affiliate links, and provides absolutely no referencing or back up to their claims other than it being their personal opinion.
Tumblr media
(Bennett, 2018)
Tumblr media
(Bennett, 2018)
The other, breaks down the statistics of their article in easy key points, is hosted by an organization known to advocate and regulate world health, and provides a detailed list of all their references for their claims.

…Who would you trust with your nutritional questions and concerns?
Role of Nutrition in the Culinary Industry
If you’ve looked at a menu recently (or scrolled through UberEats, which is much more likely given our current pandemic), you’ll most likely have noticed a number of little leaf symbols or “GF” denotations.
Tumblr media
  [Montebrun, n.d.]
  As nutrition becomes a more persistent thought in the minds of consumers, the culinary industry needs to adapt to serve their clientele. The increase in dietary preferences/restrictions is something I only see continuing to grow in the future. As consumers seek to become more informed about what they eat and where their food comes from, the demand for “healthier” or diet-specific foods will be something we as the culinary industry have to supply.

Fanfic assumptions: I think the most important things to you in a romantic relationship are sweetness, romance, and emotional vulnerability and honesty
Hehehe, thanks for sending me an assumption, boo <3
I was going to try picking this apart a bit, but it’s all true. I love me some romance and emotional vulnerability. Truly my cocktail of choice. I think part of what I love about Brio is how much they’re crazy about each other’s authentic selves. That and their negotiation of need for privacy agaisnt how much they want to devour every single piece of information about the other.
When I sit down to write Brio, I feel like this little nerd. I always intend to write angst and corresponding angsty sex... but it so rarely comes out. I usually end up pondering how I can somehow write an in-character restorative justice scene where Beth and Rio can be honest with each other, let go of some of their anger and can learn healthier relationship patterns.
My dream is them snuggling, sexy stuff based in clearer articulations of desire, sharing a meticulously structured household, eating each other's food, and doing bougie-af shit that they buy with their stacks of cash. Sharing themselves which each other. I don’t think it makes for the most interesting fanfiction but, I love it. Like do I want to write a fic where they go to Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit and Rio’s a pretentious little shit about it and Beth’s kind of embarrassed at knowing him? Yup.
Also, I am in an interracial relationship irl - I’m Mexican-American and my gf is white. So, I think endlessly about how Brio would broach sharing their cultures and how their specific positionalities would effect that. Like can see Beth learning to make her boo’s favorite kind of pan dulce? Duh, she’s a three-time muffin baking champion. Of course, she would learn how to make hojarascas if they were Rio’s favorite. Would Rio be mad judgey and then end up knowing Beth’s go-to muffin recipe by heart? Yes, I do believe that to be the case. *sigh* they’re so dumb and I’m so dumb over them.

Blueberry Muffins
Tumblr media
My dad loves to make blueberry muffins that my parents think are healthy (white flour, granulated sugar, vegetable oil, etc.), but I wanted to show them a real healthy take on a classic recipe. So, I googled “blueberry muffin recipe” and took the highest/most rated one but made a few adjustments. The result? Dad approved and even said I could buy him more of the healthier ingredients I swapped in. #win
Recipe
Yield: 6 large muffins, or 10 standard size
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Baking Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 40 minutes

Zucchini Cookies
I adapted this recipe for zucchini cookies so it doesn’t use any traditional sugar since I don’t have any of that on hand and am trying my best to avoid it (I know, I know, sugar is still sugar so whether it’s from a coconut or a sugar cane may not really matter in the grand scheme of things, but let a girl dream that they’re “healthier” will ya?). Elements I changed are in italics.
¼ cup coconut oil melted
¼ cup maple syrup
¼ cup coconut sugar
1 large flax egg (I follow this recipe for that)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup shredded zucchini
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour* (original recipe calls for GF so whatever will probably work)
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup old fashioned rolled oats
½ cup walnuts
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
Using a large mixing bowl, mix together the melted coconut oil, maple syrup, and coconut sugar , and stir until smooth. Add the flax egg, vanilla and zucchini and mix until combined. **I found that if the coconut oil is still hot when you mix in the maple syrup, zucchini, and flax egg, it doesn’t harden and stays mixable. You wouldn’t want to do this with a regular egg, though, as the coconut oil would probably cook it
In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, baking soda and salt. Slowly add the dry ingredients into the wet, and stir until just combined. Mix in the oats and walnuts.
Plop dough balls on your prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake the cookies for about 12 to 14 minutes, or until cookies are golden around the edges and set. Cool on baking sheets for about 5 minutes then transfer to a wire cooling rack.

Vegan Mushroom Pasta 🍄  A delicious pasta recipe to try out!
Tumblr media
Recipe:
* 45 ml / 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, divided
* 1-2 garlic cloves, grated finely
* 2 tbsp pine nuts, to garnish
* 300 g / 10.5 oz chestnut mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
* salt and black pepper, to taste
* ½ tsp dry thyme
* 100 g / 3 oz fresh spinach
* 200 g / 7 oz spaghetti (GF if needed)
If the garlic is sizzling too aggressively, turn the heat off (or take the pan off the heat if not using gas)
