ONCE UPON A TIME, THERE WAS A KNIGHT...

the visual inspiration for this was a combination of Frederic William Burton's Meeting on the Turret Stairs and also Bernardo Cavallino's The vision of St. Dominic receiving the Rosary from the Virgin

this was supposed to be just a one off illustration to get the thoughts out of my system, but then I started thinking about medieval politics and warfare and plagues and a castle and home as both a place of refuge, a prison, and a tomb, so perhaps they will end up as ex voto characters as well.

you may say, hey! that rosary looks like it has too many beads! it's a fifteen decade rosary, probably. dominicans are really into marian devotions. it works out.

also. spiral style stair cases. oh boy. it was that unexpectedly more difficult than I originally thought it would be to draw. the more I think about it, the less I understand them, even though I had a million photos of the stairs in front of me while I was drawing it.

look, i know everyone said that the new interview with the vampire show was incredible but holy shit i was not prepared for how incredible this show is

like, not only is louis interesting now, he is incredibly compelling! his once-bland internal dilemma is now given actual weight because it's not just the same old Thou Shalt Not Kill But I Am Hungry story, it's tempered through his righteous fury at how black people have been treated all these years, how many people have wronged him and laughed and expected him to laugh along, how his ties to the community that once saved him are now turning to nooses around his throat, how his family that he once provided for and relied on have now come to fear him

that, combined with his explicit homosexuality, and with lestat being the only one who seemed to accept him and love him for all that he is, and how that is both comforting and incredibly toxic and combined with sam reid's insane charisma and mania and gravity as lestat that make it completely understandable why louis would still be drawn to him in spite of everything

and how they've used the changes from the original to this one to examine how memory shifts regarding someone who was so intense and formative in your life even if they were ultimately so controlling and abusive but still left such huge gouges in your personality like knives

Accidently cooked up a silly little au the other day that I am very much enjoying gonna. talk about it under the cut because4 the FUCKING WORMS

OKAY so basically. literally everythign is the same except for the fact that. Ed got entirely yoinked instead of Alphonse. I dunno why that happens but. It does because I say so. Anyways. So this basically mean that Ed gets bonded to an armor instead of Al, and because I desperately wanted the secondary set of Armor to see some light I thought it would be funny to bond Ed to that instead. I haven't fleshed everything out, but as I'm working on that I wanna add a few of the different things in here just because. And I still might tweak things if I think it doesn't make sense. - Al lost his arm first, then traded his tongue and his eye to bond Ed to the armor, making him effectively mute. He's learned ASL and Ed has to translate for him a lot. Although in my hcs Al is a foodie so like. major bummer for taste buds. He likes fun textures and stuff though. I gotta figure out what problems this poses though so we'll figure that out. - Al most likely is going to go into being a state alchemist just for the fact of staying somewhat close to the storyline and stuff. and I don't know, insert random reasoning in here. Yeah - just a little design note. uhmmmmm I thought the cross thing on Ed's head/helm was cool and I had the bright idea of like "hey what if I put the emblem like. through the cross yk" and I might not do that. But at the moment it looks cool to me. so yeah. I'M STILL TOYING WITH THINGS. . . I have to figure out what happens and designs and stuff. but yeah. I take some sort of petty glee in studying anatomy textbooks with the intention of drawing comics. I once had an art teacher who was, like, belligerently against comics and animation as serious art forms, and held up realism as the ultimate goal.

She didn't even take the angle of, "You need to learn realistic human anatomy before you break the rules to stylize it," which I'd understand. She was just...aggressively anti-comics and anti-cartoon, and "too cartoony, make it more realistic" was a frequent piece of feedback in her classroom, regardless of the assignment.

Ehehehe, mean-spirited old teacher, I'm using techniques you taught me, and I'm using them to make your beloathed COMICS! And one day I'll make CARTOONS! HA!

Me when I refuse to acknowledge that there's been 50 years of Feminism since the 70's and that the Second Wave is in fact not the end-all-be-all of Feminism.

I wonder what Feminist theories began popping up in the late 70's-early 80's that Radfems really don't want young Feminists to expose themselves to? I wonder if it might have to do with the fact that Black and Decolonialist Feminist theory exist, in part, as direct critiques of Radical Feminism? Womanism is a good place to start learning about early modern Black Feminism, but even Womanism exists as critique of Radical Feminist thought.

If your knowledge of Black Feminism begins and ends with Womanism from the Second Wave, you have failed Feminist studies.

I also wonder what Feminist theories have begun popping up from the 90's to present that Radfems really don't want young Feminists to expose themselves to? I wonder if it might have to do with the fact that Intersectional Feminist theory has been growing and expanding in the decades since? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that most Intersectional Feminist theory exists in direct opposition to the Radical Feminist idea that womanhood is the most oppressed class in society and that Patriarchy is the main force of oppression in the world?

It's always amazing to me when Radfems claim to be anti-White Supremacist and even acknowledge that White Supremacy and Patriarchy work in tandem, while simultaneously enforcing the idea that addressing White Supremacy is only important in the context of womanhood.
