Huh, I didn't expect to see so many cool mustelids while I was here. Guess I'm just super lucky.
Just kidding! Of course, these are all taxidermy from the American Museum of Natural History. I'll be posting some more photos soon, but I could only fit so many in one post. Enjoy these for now!

I don't know if you're still taking requests, but if you are, could I request a Sal x reader where the reader has really long curly hair. Like down to her waist long, and they do little stuff like braiding her hair and decorating it with accessories. Just cute little stuff like that as Sal kinda wonders how she manages that much hair (If you dont want to write it, it's okay and have a nice day 💗🫶)
hello lovely gal! I’d love to do that for you. I am still taking requests and you’re welcome to do multiple! As a long curly haired girly meself, this was fun to write. (Unrelated, but I love your username.) Enjoy!
Roots - Sal Fisher x Fem!Reader
words: 0.6k
Sal loved your hair. Loved was perhaps an understatement. He’d play with it when you were cuddling, running his fingers through it mindlessly as you ranted about your day, school or work. He loved helping you wash it when you showered together, scrubbing your hair products from the roots into the very ends. But his absolute favourite was when you let him have fun with it, style it.
After you let him braid it for the first time, he had practically become obsessed. You brought your accessory collection over to his place whenever you were around, and would sit there talking and giggling together for hours while he did your hair up nice and pretty. You would sit in front of the TV, watching your favourite shows on rerun mindlessly and let him play with your hair.
And that’s exactly where you were today; sitting on his bed while petting a very sleepy Gizmo in your lap, belly up and purring softly at you while Sal worked on your hair, humming softly along with the music you had put on in the background. Today he had gone with two long braids, and he was spending his time clipping all your little plastic butterflies and flowers into them.
“You almost done, love?” You asked as you pet Gizmo across his tummy, another low grumbling purr emanating deep from the felines throat. Sal gave a soft hum in response, and you felt him begin to pin up the braids to your head. “Gonna make me look real pretty, hmm?” And he responds with a simple “mhm.” Gizmo gives a protesting mew when you stop petting him for a couple seconds. “Sorry.” You half-whisper with a small giggle, going back to petting him.
“How do you even manage with all this hair?” he asks softly as he starts pining up the second braid to your scalp, and you just shrug, going to scratch Gizmos chin, one hand going back to feel how he had styled your hair, running your hands along the skillfully pinned up braids. “I have this handsome man who comes in and makes it look pretty.” You hum back teasingly, and Gizmo yawns, stretching out before rolling over and landing on the floor, walking out the door to the living room
“Mm, he sounds cool. I’ll have to meet him some day.” He teases back, using your biggest butter cult clip to clip the braids together at the back of your head, leaning back and admiring his work with a smile. “It’s done, my love.” He hums out quietly, turning you over by your shoulders to the mirror. You were in absolutely awe.
He has smoothed out your curls on the top of your head, going in and braiding your hair tightly on both sides pining it up in beautiful swirls that met at the back of your head, all put together with your baby blue butterfly clips. You smiled wide and leaned back, kissing him as a small thank you.
“Thank you love, I look absolutely stunning.” You Mutter quietly, bringing your hand up to carefully run over the beautiful way your hair had been shaped. He wrapped his arms around your waist from the back, nuzzling his head in your shoulder appreciatively, before placing a soft kiss on your cheek.
“Beautiful hair for my beautiful girl.” He hummed softly before sighing contently, carefully kissing the top of your head, before looking back at your hair accessories, before looking back at you with a small smile on his face. “Is it too much to ask you to take it out already? I have more ideas.”

FLASH! We join London’s glitterati at Chanel and Charles Finch’s annual star-studded pre-Baftas bash
Dramatic skies poured outside on the eve of the Baftas, but the intimate corners and warming fireplaces of 5 Hertford Street drew in Britain’s best-loved talents and Hollywood stars for the annual Charles Finch and Chanel party. Emily Blunt and Tom Ford kissed hello, before collecting glasses of champagne and going over to greet Gwendoline Christie and Giles Deacon. As the mariachi band played a lively set, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, George MacKay and Minnie Driver chatted together, while Bel Powley and Douglas Booth unwound after a busy day, having first attended a birthday lunch for Powley’s mother, before the Simone Rocha A/W 24 fashion show, declaring with intent: ‘Now we can relax!’
Bob Geldof and Mariella Frostrup linked arms to lead the charge down to dinner, followed by Isla Fisher, who was admiring the interiors. Once everyone was seated, Charles Finch addressed the room: ‘It has been an incredible year for cinema,’ he said, also paying homage to his co-host Chanel and its historic affinity with film – creating haute-couture outfits for productions such as the New Wave Last Year at Marienbad, and countless memorable red-carpet looks. Over lobster salad and poussin, conversation and wine flowed: the nominees Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig were deep in conversation, and Richard E Grant caught up with his Saltburn director Emerald Fennell. Last year’s winner Emma Mackey was all smiles in anticipation of presenting the Rising Star Award, saying, ‘It’s quite mad, I’ve no idea who will get it, so I hope I don’t mess it up.’ It was almost midnight when guests began to descend on the dancefloor, where the party was only just beginning.

CAITRÍONA BALFE
Who would play you in a film of your life?
‘Saoirse Ronan – she would make me very fabulous.’
Your all-time favourite soundtrack
‘Le Mépris. It’s so evocative and takes you somewhere incredible.’
The movie that changed your life
‘Dead Poets Society. It showed me the power of storytelling and solidified the fact that I wanted to be an actor.’
A silver-screen icon you’d like to meet
‘Gena Rowlands is my absolute idol – I’m holding out hope.’

Remember… the people I find beautiful are the people who inspire me. I love unusual beauty like Peggy Guggenheim, who had incredible style and taste. Gina Rowlands is also someone I think of as beautiful. I like women like that. I like men like that. It's not all necessarily about the Best Body or the Best Hair. I think it's much more important to do incredible things with your life. — Caitríona Balfe, Cara (magazine), August 2016

Sometimes I see you on my dash doing a science and it makes me happy and do you have any shark facts pls? Sharks are so cool. Especially the weird deep sea sharks that always get ignored when ppl talk about great whites and such (no shame to great whites they are very lovable,)
Of course I have quite a lot!
Okay so we can start with the first shark ancestors, the spiny sharks! They lived in the Silurian, more than 400 million years ago. They looked pretty unique as each fin was actually a spine supporting the whole fin, and had already reacquired the cartilaginous skeleton that modern sharks have!
Tumblr media
Nobu Tamura / CC BY-SA 4.0
They often had a bunch of little pairs of "finlets" (not real fins, but spines serving a similar purpose) between their actual fins! So spiky!
Then we come to the true sharks (and rays). Or, nearly. Turns out, there are two main groups of shark-like cartilaginous fish alive today. On the one hand the sharks and rays, and on the other hand the chimeras, majestic creatures often found in the deep sea!
Tumblr media
Havforskingsinstituttet / CC BY-SA 4.0
Turns out however, the ancestors of chimeras were historically way more shark-like! And ranged between adorable and pretty weird, and more often than not both! Here's one of them: the sawblade shark, Helicoprion!
Tumblr media
Entelognathus / CC BY-SA 4.0
And here's the anvil shark!
Tumblr media
DiBgd / CC BY-SA 4.0
And the wtfshark, Squaloraja!
Tumblr media
Nix Illustrations / I don't know the license but he's on Tumblr
And now we can move on to the actual sharks. And rays. And sawsharks. And sawfish. And sawskates. The design so good they had to invent it thrice.
Here's a sawfish (these ones are closer to rays!), heavily judging whoever took the photograph. Surprisingly, they're the largest of the bunch, reaching up to 7 meters - while sawsharks are barely a meter in length at best, and sawskates aren't alive anymore but could reach a respectable 4 meters! (although they were wider relative to their size, which has to count for something?)

Now that we saw the saws, we can move on to actual sharks... wait what's that? An interruption by the coolest species of six-finned ray?
Tumblr media
Robert Fisher, Virginia Sea Grant / CC BY-ND 2.0
Seems like it. Of course I had to mention my favourite cartilaginous fish in the bunch. Cownose rays (and their manta ray cousins) are the only vertebrates to have developed an entire new pair of fins - on their face, to help them grab stuff! Since fish paired fins are homologous to our limbs, it would be like having an extra pair of arms coming from our face!
Tumblr media
Robert Fisher, Virginia Sea Grant / CC BY-ND 2.0
Back to sharks now (finally)! And speaking of stuff it's rare to have six of, what about sixgill sharks?
Tumblr media
No author information / Public domain
The most divergent group of true sharks alive today, the deep-sea creatures that we call frilled sharks are actually very derived, despite their prehistoric appearance! Ironically, their more ordinary-looking sixgill cousins, the cow sharks, are more representative of how sharks started off back in the days!
Tumblr media
NOAA / Public domain
Still six gills because why not. Or even seven, because really, why not.
Next step on our shark list (and back to the regular five-gill pattern), the angelsharks! Or sand devils, because they really couldn't decide on these ones. Angels or devils, they're absolutely adorable pancakes.
Tumblr media
Nick Long / CC BY-SA 2.0
Now, we would still have five more orders of sharks to go, but these are the pretty well-known ones (great white shark, hammerhead shark, etc.) and this post is getting pretty big, so I'm happy to have presented cool unique ones already! Have a nice day, and don't forget - there are always more shark species to learn about!

“Mama!” your little girl came running into your arms as you waited for her outside her classroom, “Hi baby!” you smiled scooping her up into your arms careful not to crumple her new drawing. “How was your day sweetheart?” you brushed the messy locks of brown hair from her face, a beautiful reminder of her mother’s hair. “We made decorations for Halloween!!” she boosts as you gently placed her on feet as she showed her the picture of a pumpkin coloured in a bright orange colour with her name on the top right-hand corner. “I have more in my bag, Miss Fisher said we should hang them up at home” she smiled widely with a hint of puppy eyes to convince you.
“Of course, we can hang these up! Mommy is going to love them” you smiled as you reached for her tiny hand. “Is mommy home yet?” Alaïa jumped with excitement. Your wife, Florence, had been away filming a new movie for Disney. She was so excited for your shared daughter to watch her in a more family friendly movie. Alaïa already loved watching Puss in Boots 2 and quickly made it one her favourite movies to watch on movie night. “Not yet bug” you replied as the two of you walked to the car. “But Halloween is only 3 sleeps away, Mama!” she pouted. “Mommy will be home before Halloween, I promise” you gave her hand a little squeeze. “How about we go shopping tomorrow for your Halloween costume?” you suggested in hopes of cheering her up, she jumped up and down once again with excitement.
“I want to dress up as the mommy in the flower dress with flowers in her hair!” Alaïa hoped into her car seat for you to buckle her in. “Oh, how about we look around first?” you suggested seeing as Midsommar is a dark movie and Alaïa only knew about the look from the photo of Florence in the impressive flower dress that hung up on the wall at home. “Please mama! I want to look like the May Queen!!” she pouted once more. “What about Goldilocks and we could put some flowers in your hair still?” you threw another suggestion at her, but she shook her head and was set on being a mini may queen and you knew better than to start an argument with a young child who’s just had a big day at school. “Let’s talk more about it after dinner” you placed a kiss on her forehead, “I was thinking we could make home-made pizza’s, how does that sound?” you added. Alaïa smiled widely and nodded erratically causing a chuckle from yourself before closing the door.
Dinner was a fun fulfilled evening with Alaïa enjoying every moment of making her own pizza with all the goodness from the homegrown vegetables. Bathroom went smoothly without any more conversation about her Halloween costume to your relief then it was time to facetime Mommy to tell her all about her exciting day.
“I miss you mommy, when are you coming home?” she pouted through the phone.
“You’re in luck baby girl because mommy misses you so, so much that I’ll be coming home tomorrow!” Florence replied with a wide smile when your daughter couldn’t contain her excitement, “YAY!!” she squealed causing both you and Florence to chuckle in awe at how excited she was. “I hope you’re being a good girl for mama” Florence spoke once Alaïa calmed. “She’s been the best, like always! Haven’t you sweetie” you placed a soft kiss on the top of her head. “Mommy can you stay on the phone for bedtime story? Please?” Alaïa asked with her best impression of puppy eyes, better than the ones she gave you earlier in the day. “Of course, I can, have you brushed your teeth and got Mr Snuggles?” Florence asked the young girl who nodded with another sweet smile. “Well then my little pumpkin, what story are we reading?” her next question followed as you followed Alaïa to her bedroom to tuck her in.
Not that it surprised either of you but Alaïa was fast asleep before the story from her storybook of fairy tales ended, cuddled with her stuffed blue whale that she called ‘Mr Snuggles’ you gave her a soft kiss on her cheek as Florence whispered a goodnight before you turned her lamp off and left the room with her nightlight on.
“So, you’re home tomorrow I hear?” you smiled. “I’m actually about to head to the airport in about 10 minutes so I should be home in time for dinner” Florence explained as she continued to pack her suitcase as she had been doing during story time. “I can’t wait to see you, I miss you” you didn’t realise you were giving a soft pout until Florence made a joke, “oh, so that’s where our baby girl gets her pout from” she chuckled. “Just you wait to see what she has planned for Halloween” you joked back with a smile. “I’m excited to see you both, I’ve missed you so much” you heard her zip up her last suitcase and gave you her iconic pout, “now whose pouting?” you chuckled, “I miss you too baby, have a safe flight, I love you” you added after she playfully rolled her eyes, “I love you too darling, I’ll see you tomorrow, kisses!” she blew you a kiss before you both said your goodbyes.
After giving the kitchen a good clean up and the living room a tidy up from her toys you sat down with a sigh as your eyes travelled to the photo of Florence behind the scenes of Midsommar. Your thoughts wondered to what people might think of your 5-year-old dressed up as a character from such a movie, you tried to think of alternatives but somehow still included a flower crown as you knew that was what really drew your daughter to that idea. Then it hit you, that one scene of Florence as Amy March in a flower crown, perfect! You thought before googling to find an image to show Alaïa in the morning.
You were awoken by a very excited young child jumping at the foot of your bed, “mama wake up!!” she spoke in a puff from all the jumping. “Good morning missy!” you smiled before she landed on top of you and attacked you with cuddles. “Mommy is coming home today!” she smiled widely, “that she is! Just before dinner she told me” You replied with a kiss on her cheek, “shall we get some breakfast and get ready to go to the mall?” you asked. Alaïa slide off the bed and nodded with excitement, “I want fruit salad again!” and with that you took her downstairs and made her a small bowl of fruit salad before getting her dressed for the mall.
While you showered, you gave your phone to Alaïa to keep her entertained for 5 minutes so you could freshen up, leaving the phone open to the photo of Flo as Amy for her little eyes to see. A sly smile tugged at your lips when you walked out of the bathroom in your robe to see Alaïa showing you the photo, “Mommy look so pretty! Like a princess!” she spoke, “I think I want to dress up as this photo mama!” she added, your plan worked. Now the stress of judgment left your mind and hoped she wouldn’t noticed how you were able to change her mind. “That’s mommy from her movie, Little Women, do you remember that one?” you asked her, knowing she might not remember the film she watched while Florence was away. Sometimes just seeing Flo on the TV was enough to keep her from missing her mother while she was away filming.
Alaïa shook her head and returned her attention to the photo in front of her, “will the mall have a crown like this one?” she asked. “If they don’t, we’ll make one!” you smiled as you grabbed your outfit form the wardrobe. The little girl smiled once more before you dashed into the bathroom to change.
After shopping you took Alaïa to the park as she was a good girl while shopping. You were able to find a few flower crowns to work with and a nice little blue dressed and a blonde wig to complete the outfit. Alaïa played with some new friends she made within the first 5 minutes of arriving, a tops to Florence for handing down her wonderful social skills. Alaïa never had trouble making new friends and often asked for sleepovers. “Come on honey, we’ve got to get home and washed before dinner” you called out after a few hours of play. Alaïa came running towards you with her water bottle in hand. “Mama, can we keep Halloween a secret from mommy? Lacy is keeping her costume a surprise from her daddy!” she asked with red cheeks, you nodded, “of course we can” you smiled.
Like promised, Florence was home by the time you and Alaïa walked through the front door. “Mommy!!” she ran towards Florence with open arms. “There’s my big girl!” Florence scooped her up and hugged her tightly, “You’ve grown!” she added. “Something smells good” you smiled as you pecked your wife’s lips, the kitchen filled with the warm smell of dinner. “Are you girls hungry?” she asked. “Yes!” Alaïa replied as Flo placed her back on her feet, “go get washed up and dinner will be ready by the time you come back” Flo smiled before Alaïa ran off to the bathroom.
“Come here you” she turned to you and pulled you close, “hi” she smiled softly as she kissed you tenderly. “Hi yourself” you smiled against her lips, “why don’t you go relax in the bath for a bit and I’ll do bedtime” she suggested. You knew she just wanted to take this time to be with your daughter after weeks away, there was no argument from you as you kissed her one last time before taking yourself upstairs to run a bath.
Halloween came with much excitement from your shared daughter who couldn’t wait to show her costume to her mommy.
“Mommy close your eyes!” Alaïa said with a cheer. “They’re closed!” Florence called back from the living room. “You look so pretty baby!” you snapped a few photos before allowing her to rush out to the living room with her wig that you styled to look like a young Amy March and her blue dress sat perfectly just above her ankles to stop from dragging on the ground, her favourite piece, the flower crown that she modelled proudly for you.
“Are you ready Mommy?” Alaïa called out after you put your phone down. “Sure, am honey!” the British accent came up the stairs. “Be careful going down the stairs, I don’t want you to tumble” you said as you followed your daughter out of her bedroom. Of course, she didn’t listen and rushed out the stairs without tumbling. “Open them!” she twirled her dress as Florence opened her eyes.
“Oh, my goodness! Look at you!!” Florence gasps as she took in the sight. “I’m you mommy! From that movie” she caused to think then turned to you for help, “little women” you whispered for her. “From little women” she said in her little voice. “You make a very cute Amy March” Florence smiled, “you’re so adorable!” she added before smothering her with kisses all over her little face. “Stop mommy!” the little girl giggled. “If you’re ready to go trick or treating you best get your pumpkin bowl” Flo grinned. Alaïa ran back to her room to grab the missing item, Florence looked at you with the softest eyes, “You know, at first she wanted to go as Dani” you explained, “but I got worried with what others might have thought about that idea so maybe we revisit that one in a few years” you added. Florence didn’t say a word, she walked up to you and pulled you closer to her by placing her hands on your waist, “you’re the best mother to her, I love you and I love our family” she spoke before her lips were on yours again.

Tumblr media
summer love, beneath the sun
Tumblr media
pairing: jeremiah fisher x fem!reader (can be read as gn) summary: upon your long awaited return to Cousins, your long-distance boyfriend Jeremiah Fisher has a special surprise planned for you... word count: 1.5k warnings: pure fluff! none other than that i think a/n: i had such a strong vision for this fic but idk if i did it proper justice! i kinda hate the ending though uhfvdjskm...
Tumblr media
Jeremiah Fisher is nothing short of a romantic. He takes special care in absolutely spoiling you with his tooth-rotting sweetness, and today is no different. It had been a long and busy first week back in Cousins meaning you barely had any time at all to catch up with your boyfriend. Jeremiah had promised you a special evening today, just the two of you, and when you had asked him what he was planning, he simply winked at you and told you to wait and see.
So now you’re sitting on the curbside in front of your house, both your hands firmly planted on the harsh pavement below you. The sun was already starting to set and the late summer day’s humidity was making the air stick to your skin.
You heard the familiar hum of Jeremiah’s big red jeep before you saw it, you smiled to yourself as you watched the jeep roll up next to the curb just a few feet from where you were sitting. Quickly, you pushed yourself to your feet as Jere got out of his car. His arms immediately enveloped you in a tight hug, and you left no time to hesitate before you hugged him back, resting your cheek on his shoulder as he swayed you side to side.
His hands slip away from your torso to grab you softly by the shoulders. “I have missed you so much,” He states, pressing a chaste kiss to your lips before pulling you away from him to look you in the eyes properly.
He hums, as his features take on a more quizzical look, soft fingers come up to cup your face as he tilts it from side to side, “did you get prettier? I didn’t think that was possible.”
“Stop teasing!” you protest, but your words come out through a fit of laughter, reaching a hand up to tousle his dirty blonde curls, “and actually, I missed you more.”
He nods his head to the side like he’s thinking before saying, “unlikely, and also impossible.”
With a defeated sigh, you give into his antics and let him win this one time. “Okay, fine. But can you please, please, tell me where we’re going? This suspense is killing me!”
Jeremiah laughs heartily, before taking your hand and twirling you around, “it’s a surprise,” he reminds you, “and I hope you’ll love it.” He takes that same hand - and in a show of his usual over-the-top-gentleman-ly behaviour - ushers you to the door which he opened smoothly with his other hand.
You stepped up into his Jeep, relishing in the familiar scent. The leather seats and the smell of the ocean. Jere shut your door before walking around and sliding into the driver's seat. You grabbed the aux cord as he shifted into drive, scrolling through your music library until you found your shared playlist.
The car ride had you feeling like you were on cloud nine, absolutely enamoured in the presence of Jeremiah after being away from him for so, so long. The two of you scream-shouting to your favourite songs and laughing at how horribly out of tune you both sounded. There was no higher form of bliss than what you were feeling now. By the time Jeremiah had stopped the car, you were parked just next to the beach, across the road from you was a small street of local food shops, including your most favourite ice creamery. A sudden thought entered your head and it made you swoon, was this Jeremiah’s special surprise? Was he planning on taking you to a sweet ice cream date?
You reach across the centre console to quickly grab Jeremiah’s forearm before he unlocks the car to get out. “Wait, is your special surprise an ice cream date?”
Suddenly, Jeremiah feels like he’s fucked up. Looking down at your big doe-eyes while he contemplates what he’s about to say next. No, the surprise was not in fact a date to the ice creamery. He had something else in mind and now he wasn’t even sure if you’d like it. And he was more than one-hundred-percent against letting you down, “well, no…” he starts, watching your expression carefully to note any sign of change or disappointment, “but we can do both if you want?”
Jeremiah looks like he’s walking on eggshells to try not to disappoint you, and while you feel guilty you also find it a bit endearing that he’d willingly change the plans he’d made for you to do something that would make you happy. “No! It’s okay,” you quickly counter, “I’m sure whatever you have planned will be just as great.”
He nods, and at first it seems unsure, but then he smirks and says, “oh trust me, it will be.”
You roll your eyes playfully as you shove his shoulder. He sends a wink your way before getting out of the Jeep and helping you out of your side, but before you can get very far on the hard deck that meets the sandy edge of the beach, Jeremiah pulls something out of his pocket. An old red bandana hangs from between his fingertips as a sly smirk forms on his lips. “First, you need to put this on.”
Crossing your arms across your chest, you scoff to yourself, “you’ve put a lot of effort into this.”
“Yes, well you're worth it all, my love,” he says in an awfully cheesy tone, paired with batting his big ocean blue eyes.
“Eugh.”
“Eugh,” he agrees, before gently wrapping the bandana around your face, covering your eyes. “Can you see?” he asks for confirmation to which you shake your head.
“I’m a blind man, Jeremiah,” you tell him. He chuckles in response before placing a hand on each of your shoulders and slowly guiding you away from the pavement of the road, and onto the hardwood deck.
You weren’t joking though, with the blindfold on you really did feel blind, your walk was stiff and unsure, and your hands occasionally shot up to brace for impact whenever your shoes caught in a particularly large gap in the deck. But nonetheless, Jere’s grip on you never loosened, and he was so careful to make sure you were safe.
"Just a little bit further," he whispered into your ear, and all but a few minutes later, he made you turn and led you down a set of stairs until your sneakers hit the sandy floor of the beach. A few more steps later, Jeremiah pulled the blindfold off your head. You squinted as your eyes struggled to adjust to the light, blinking a few times before you registered the sun just starting to set over the horizon, splitting the sky into beautiful shades of blue, purple, and pink, the reflection shimmering across the water.
It took you a few seconds (which were painstakingly long for Jeremiah) to notice the real surprise he had set up for you. On the sandy shore of the beach laid a blue plaid picnic blanket which you recognised as Sussanah’s, accompanied by a picnic basket, as well as a bouquet of beautiful flowers.
The staggering rocks that were a few metres away to your left and the tall green reeds that blended into a thicket of trees on your right made the section of the beach that Jeremiah had taken you to feel somewhat secluded; a private section of the beach just for you two.
Honestly, you couldn't believe your eyes, “all this for me?” you gasped, turning to face Jeremiah who had the audacity to look shy.
He was quick to put on his confident front, pulling you in by the waist and craning his head down until your noses were almost touching.  “Who else would it be for?” he teased, brushing a few stray hands of your hair out of your face.
You felt the blush creep onto your cheeks and you instinctively diverted your gaze back down to the sand. You had no idea how to respond.
A breathy laugh escapes his lips and he pulls away, grabbing your hand and leading you to the picnic blanket. He sits down on the soft fabric before beckoning you to do so as well. Your curiosity gets the better of you, and you lift the flap of the picnic basket to take a peek inside, and you're pleasantly surprised to see that it’s filled with some of your most favourite snacks and foods.
“So.. what do you think?” He asks, as he leans on his side to face you.
“This is so much better than ice cream.”
He laughed again, before pushing himself off the blanket and reaching over the basket to place a hand on your cheek. He caught your lips in a sweet kiss that smeared your glittery cherry lip gloss over your chin. When both of you finally pulled away, Jeremiah tugged your waist down so you were lying next to him, your head resting on his chest.
This summer had only just begun, and yet you felt as if you could stay like this forever.

What’s a fic you’ve read more than once? i havent read that many gallavich fanfics since i watched the show in like april BUT im loving Africa and ill probably read it once it's finished
What’s a gifset you always have to reblog? s7 gifsets are really person to me but also maybe s10 and s11 because they reached the peak of softness
What’s a headcanon you can’t stop thinking about? maybe that ian would tell mickey "i told you so" when they become parents and mickey turns out to be an absolute incredible dad that will play, sing, dance anything with his children.
What’s a fanart you love looking at? maybe @gallavichonly @heymrspatel and i accept recommendations btw id love to see more fanart
What’s an idea you’d love to create if you had the time/inspiration? id probably write like a series of one shots based on taylor swift songs
What’s something you’ve discovered since entering this fandom? A new trope you love? A different analysis of the show? Something else? i think that not judging characters, like always be aware of their circumstances and what made them do or say that and that might not justify them but it explains their thought process, it explains why and gives them some sort of humanity to their mistakes idk if this makes sense but yeah that, don't judge a character too soon, try to understand them.
What’s an underrated trope or concept you’d like to see more of? the secret dating, we know they secretly dated and stuff but i feel like it's actually a really fun concept to play with despite their circumstances in the show, it gives you so many possibilities.
What’s your favourite season? And has this changed after multiple rewatches of the show? the early seasons have special place in my heart, so s4-5 and i think gallavich totally saved s7, i love that part of the season
What’s a plot hole you wish had been answered or resolved? i would've loved to see ian healing from the grooming and realizing it was grooming, it would've been nice for the character to heal old wounds and start fresh a new life with mickey in a new neighborhood ready to create new memories
What scene or moment do you feel isn’t discussed enough? the just wondering if we're a couple or not scene, we definitely should discuss more the fact that mickey answered too quickly, he absolutely had been calling ian boyfriend in his head
What line/dialogue/description from something else (a poem, a book, a tv show, a movie, or something else) do you feel describes Ian and Mickey’s relationship? im gonna quote noel fisher and as he said: "Ian's been that kind of guiding angel for Mickey so he's going to have to turn into a pretty much kind of a protective angel for Ian"
What do you think is next for Ian and Mickey post-finale? i think they're gonna learn to communicate even more, they were in really good path already. i think the writers didn't have much faith in them in that aspect but the conversation they have in s11 about going back or not to the new neighborhood made evident that they can communicate, they listen to each other and understand the reasons, each other's feelings. so yeah, i think they're gonna get even better at that and also they're not gonna wait that much to become parents. i think they eventually will find new jobs, ian will have his tomatoes and mickey will adore looking at him doing his thing every sunday morning. i really really think they finally found their peace, their home and are gonna be very very happy and disgustingly in love forever because they're also hopeless romantic and want that so bad.
im gonna tag a few people and as always feel free to do it or not <3 @lupeloto @mikhailoisbaby @mickeysgaymom @redwiccanrobin @lyricailove @energievie @depressedstressedlemonzest @juliakayyy

top 5 musical theatre performers?... and you can't choose lin
i love this question so much! & i'm so happy you said no lin because it's a great opportunity for me to talk about the others! this will be probably chaotic (surprise, surprise) & i will drop clips to prove my point:
PHILLIPA SOO
i don't think any words could describe how i feel about her... the most incredible voice i've ever heard. i would literally die for her, i'm being serious right now. she is one of the reasons i think the off broadway cast album of the great comet is better than the obc one (unpopular opinion maybe but oh well she is MY natasha). i would never be tired of listening to her, she is so precious to me istg. one of my favourite videos is, of course, phillipa singing no one else from tgc (ha! i know you were expecting hamilton! no way, you are getting this one instead):
youtube
JORDAN FISHER
i know a lot of people wouldn't agree with me, but i actually think he is incredibly talented. he has a great voice & damn, he can act! i kinda lost my mind when i saw his first pictures as orpheus in hadestown, i also recommend to watch all the clips with him (especially wait for me, my personal favourite), but what i really want to show you is this video of jordan singing waving through a window from dear evan hansen (the fact that he is not only singing the song but also acting here, i couldn't love him any more, he also has the most adorable smile but it's not that important or is it?):
youtube
JOSH GROBAN
his voice... for the love of god... i am kinda crazy about him. amazing as sweeney todd, yes, true, but most of you probably know already i am absolutely fucking insane about pierre bezukhov the biggest fucking loser oh god i love him so much (a little disclaimer: i usually listen to the off broadway version of tgc, yes, but i do have playlists with all pierre's song so josh groban is there as well), so it's probably not surprising that i am giving you this today (dust and ashes is, in my opinion, one of the best musical songs ever written):
youtube
EVA NOBLEZADA
ngl, i fell in love with her immediately while listening to hadestown for the first time. she is just aaaaaamazing, that girl can sing & definitely can act. also, she is so incredibly beautiful i can't even (i may have a little crush on her). i am always getting super emotional when i watch her, so i want you all to feel the same, watch this video of her & reeve carney singing all i've ever known:
youtube
AMBER GRAY
dear fucking god what a voice. first of all, she is definitely my favourite persephone, i mean come on. i am also fucking obsessed with the song charming from tgc which is not surprising to anyone probably. i also found an audio of her singing starchild from ghost quartet & my head exploded (i don't know where it is now but believe me, it exists... somewhere). but this is what you get today:

hey, ali! i feel your pain about the tbosas adaptation! i cried so much during the movie but not because i felt emotional, seeing MY book comes alive on screen but because we were robbbbbbbbbbed and shot 😞😞😞😞😞😞 anyways, what's your opinion on the music tho? fav/least fav song? (my is the oldtherebefore and least fav the 0livia r0drigo's one)
hey, lollis!
‘robbed and shot’, exactly. i couldn’t have said it better myself because unfortunately, that’s spot on 🥲
I LOVED THE MUSIC! a dystopian reflection of our reality through intentional use of folk/bluegrass music is something that resonates strongly with me. i mean, they knew how to strike the right chord in the hearts of book readers for sure! *the only other thing i wish was different about the music it's the variety of tempo and rhythm because as much as i LOVED the unified sound of LG's songs, i would prefer each song to have its own individual tune and ~aura)
my absolute favourite adaptation that they did was 'nothing you can take from me' (boot-stompin’ version); i am utterly in awe of the powerful passionate energy that they gave to this song?? also i loveeed the similarity of rhythm and tone between 'nothing you can take from me' and a traditional american folk song 'man of constant sorrow', i kinda feel it was a deliberate parallel which worked just great. (also i’m glad they added maude ivory’s 'keep on the sunny side'!)
my least favourite is perhaps 'the ballad of lucy gray baird'?.. and though i did enjoy rachel’s rendition (she copies a young dolly parton in such a warm-hearted respectful manner!), and the respect for traditional appalachian music, she sang it in a cheerful 'to hell with you!' manner which is less intense and intimate that i remember it from the book to be? to quote tbosas here: 'the haunting melody set the tone, and her words did the rest as she began to sing in a voice husky from smoke and sadness' – the movie version really failed to capture both the haunting tune (their version doesn't really tell the story musically because of a major key) and the lucy gray's vulnerability here for me. in the book she did what carrie fisher told us all to do: 'take your broken heart and turn it into art' while in the movie she isn't even angry at billy taupe?? like his betrayal (and her place in the games) is not a big deal? she's openly rebellious and sassy with out of place 'i need no man' attitude and that simply didn't work for me personally.
it took some time for 'pure as the driven snow' to grow on me (i expected it to be more of a waltz-like, similar to maiah wynne's cover), but i'm coming around to it. yet… i wish it was STAGED differently??? they had to combine certain scenes and songs in the film but it was such a SURREAL idea to meld PATDS with 'sell you for a song' setting? and it took away so much from that moment of love and connection and unconditional acceptance, where lucy gray is finally ready to be emotionally unshielded in front of her lover (maybe for the first time ever)?? it was a PIVOTAL snowbaird moment but they needed to blend two songs together because obviously PATDS can't be love confession in form of a song because it should be taken as an ominous warning instead (duh!). 'bitch you better not turn out to be a bad guy even tho i knew you were a villain all along' :??? and it could've worked in its own angst-y way, if there had been any development in snowbaird love story?? but since movie!they are full on survival the whole time (there's no canonical teetering on the edge of an actual fondness/love and survival instinct), PATDS makes no sense at all. so… i extremely frustrated by the use of PATDS on screen but at the same time i love the sound of the full version on the soundtrack album.
annnd i'm actually IN PAIN because they had the audacity to leave so many songs out?? especially given their ties to the original trilogy?? 'deep in the meadow' aka rue's song???? 'the valley song' aka the one peeta mentioned seeing katniss sing at school when they were children????  the festive 'crawling to you' ('that thing i love with') likely performed at finnick’s wedding?? idk maybe it's a musical nerd who is speaking in me but i wish they could have included more of the book songs at least on the album, if not in the actual movie (even tho i'm still sure, it would've been possible to present the whole complexity of this book AND its poetic side too, if they decided to split the film in two).
[the score album wasn't much to talk about but 'snow lands on top' piece tho… vivid, striking, remarkable]

ult kantrio headcanon masterpost
⬇ here i will be compiling as much as possible of my very specific hcs about my favourite play dolls from pokemon that ive rambled about everywhere else, usually at 3 in the morning. and will be updating this post whenever i will. this is still just a small percentage of everything going on in my head lmao. ⬇
does not include futureverse, give it time in the oven.
RED 💖
mute boy born to a family of jolly, talkative and enthusiastic fishers. they make this their entire personality and reds house is very fishing themed. hes... absolutely not as enthusiastic as a kid and sick of the smell of fish, but enjoys it as an adult.
his pikachus a much bigger beast than most pikas in comparison. Supreme Champion.
during G1 he is very polite and well mannered in contrast to green and leaf. his room is tidy and he goes to bed early. though he defends all dumb rowdy shit leaf pulls anyway. this is reflected in his pkmn being more of the gentle giant sort.
he has learned a lot of cooking + baking skills from his mom and the smell of his outdoor cooking can instantly summon leaf and green (reluctantly) to him during G1. he is a huge sweet tooth as well and prefers tea over coffee.
only looks retired as an adult; often sleepy and napping and walking everywhere in crocs. boring as hell but hey its endearing when red does it. but he is very much in peak physical strength and still quickly sweeping other trainers' teams. despite his usual serene demeanor he can still go for the most rash decision and just go apeshit w his pokemon.
TERMINALLY OFFLINE. no way is he going to understand what "ratioing team rocket epic style big W" is going to mean. types bluntly, like your dad. last tweet from him was six years ago, a 240p quality video about encountering an ursaring in a hut in the middle of the woods.
his usual pokeball throw resembles a baseball pitch.
exactly just as geeky as he is athletic. he enjoys the battle tree, but he still wishes for more. his dormant interest in wildlife biology and conservation that he had as a child is soon reignited and hes gonna get that PhD.
enjoys haunted locations too much. even leaf is confused by this! he decides to buy the shittiest abandoned house. which is also haunted. but reds eyes sparkle as always, man is FLEXING and determined to renovate this thing while green is frantically experiencing literally every emotion at once from jumpscares to "huh red knowing how to renovate is kinda ehehehe" then again pacing around sobbing over what were they thinking buying this house.
GREEN 💚
his and daisy's mother was a musician with a similar personality to him. his father, prof. oak's son, was more like daisy and a humble gardener w grass pkmn by his side. neither were too interested in battling or going on adventures.
he is extremely multifaceted when it comes to styles and music tastes, for example. somehow this man can combine prep, jock, geek, stoner and punk rock to his style all at once. his music taste is ALL.
nowadays his eevee is sporting the same hairstyle as him.
millennial still trying to make his podcast a big thing. his poke-twitter is fairly professional. relatively offline, not hip enough for zoomer trainers.
a francoboo. had his boy crazy era in kalos and thus more experienced than red when it comes to relationships. some of his french ex bfs still chase after him but shit bricks every time red answers the door instead.
at least he got them to take good fancy pictures of him in kalos. and he cooks kalosian recipes quite well, spoiling red with those nicely decorated crepes. but likely he experienced some paris syndome too. when you realize lumiose city kinda often smells like piss...
not very artistic. he draws like a 5 year old.
bad at figuring out what lesbians like. he buys leaf ellen degeneres merchandise :(
hes just kind of. eternally stuck in 90s slang and still having his default insults be so hilariously lame they wouldnt sting anyone. like buttcheek.
this is a more recent thing about my design for him but his left eyelid is perpetually droopier than the other.
LEAF 💙
showed up inexplicably in pallet town one day and simply asserted herself. no further elaboration. her origins remain a mystery. she biked all the way inside oak's lab and kept biking.
diversity win! in this universe leaf is closer to being an "ash counterpart" than red is.
since shes always seeking new thrills, she lives in a van as an adult. it looks pretty amazing and cozy from the inside and plenty of room to cook! on the outside theres like. airbrushed venusaurs and wizards and venusaur wizards of all sort.
a big ball of positive meatheadness to the point where shell def blow up a lot of things thinking everythings gonna be just fine. some people want her dead for this.
absolutely will put anything in her mouth and sometimes this is terrifying. tries to always make her cooking look like something "fun" and colorful that kids would enjoy but usually fucks up the look.
on-off relationships with women, she makes a new rival with lgbt undertones every two months. popular gal like that. dont ask her for relationship advice.
quite online and very charming. types like cher on social media. still, she remains popular and loved amongst the youth.
had a geocities in 2004 where she documented her adventures (bc i want G1 to be as 2004 as possible like that). it was an eyesore to look at.
often forms a trio with may and kris and they go on roadtrips eeeeverywhere. they either love her one day or think of her as a dumpster fire personified the next day.

Hello, hope this is ok. Just to say how much I have enjoyed your writing for Bodies. Your writing is so beautifully detailed, and the internal nuances are delightful to wander amongst. I have read all TRC books, not my favourite, but I really like your fics, but Oh boy, I can see how your writing has developed since then. So, just a big thank you for writing all these pieces. (Do you have any recs for queer media that you have enjoyed?)
Thank you so much for messaging! It's really lovely of you to say!
Also very glad to hear my writing has come on since the TRC days! I was very proud of those fics at the time, and really do still think of them fondly, but I am aware of how much I've grown as a writer since then (hence the slight jumpscare this morning, for which I can only apologise!).
Queer media! Let me dredge my memories for a bit, and I will no doubt mention stuff you've heard of or watched/read already. There are doubtless SEVERAL things I've forgotten, as it is well past my bedtime, but if any glaring omissions occur to me I'll send them on! Shows: Recently I've really enjoyed Our Flag Means Death - you've probably at least heard of it (and as you've been looking at my AO3 you'll have seen I've written for it), and it's completely different from either TRC or Bodies tonally bc it is, in essence, a pirate sitcom, but there is honestly nothing so unashamedly and joyously queer out there at the moment. The fandom is a bit of a terrifying juggernaut, so I suggest treading neatly round the edges and delving into some absolutely top-tier fic (of which there is no shortage) if the whim takes you. On the other side of the pirate scale is Black Sails (DO NOT compare these directly they are very different beasts). Excellent story, very dark and gritty, great pay-off. Deadloch is another great show - Australian detective black comedy, filled to the brim with lesbians! The Haunting of Bly Manor is just a gorgeous ghost/love story with some brilliant characters. Feel Good is one of these unexpectedly heart-breaking sitcoms that I can't recommend enough even though it took me a year to build up the courage for a rewatch A League of Their Own (TV) is just brilliant, and i am GUTTED we're not getting a s2 I'm gonna stick Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries here too, bc even though it isn't actually all that queer (but it DOES have Miriam Margolyes, which definitely qualifies it), it's super camp and has what is possibly the only straight mc romance i've ever been invested in which is saying something Books: KJ Charles is a favourite of mine. She writes really great, quick-to-read queer historical romances that always have a great mystery and body count. The Will Darling Adventures (1920s pulp action-mystery with a romance between an ex-soldier who now runs a second-hand bookshop and a disgraced aristo) are my absolute favourites of hers, but everything she writes is very solid. I've also really enjoyed The Locked Tomb by Tamsyn Muir series so far - very complicated Space Opera, again chock-full of lesbians. Sex: Lessons From History by Fern Riddell is a really interesting non-fiction book about, shockingly, attitudes to sex through history, and takes a delightfully non-heteronormative approach to it that I wasn't expecting going in. As Meat Loves Salt by Maria McCann is an all-time favourite read of mine, but is quite challenging as the main character is Not The Greatest Guy and it does carry some hefty stuff and warnings. Girl Meets Boy and How to Be Both by Ali Smith are both just brilliant stories with some great Gender Stuff going on.
Like i say, I'm sure I've missed stuff! And it's a bit all over the place because, as well as replying to your AO3 comments too early this morning, I am now answering this too late at night. I am sorry, but can do nothing about it :P I hope this is a little bit helpful at least! <3

me for the past few nights: next ep is the one something happens, i can feel it 🤞🏻🤞🏻and tonight i will finally be right 😂 i have a very nice red on the shelf for just such an occasion; and it’s australian, too! (a friend said i might have to wait until the movie so she’s no longer a friend 😌)
ON that bittersweet reaching the end of my journey with them note!
the tennis ep was actually insane. to be fair, me commenting on miss fisher murder mysteries is just me saying they were so insane for this over and over again 😂
no but they were so insane for this episode!
starting right off the bat with jack teasing her with the spider fingers thing was just 🥺 i can see so clearly into the established relationship and it is good. and by the way, what i love most about them is that established relationship phrack is going to be exactly like pre-canon phrack except sometimes they’ll be naked.
and then her finger on his lips; i know you know what you’re doing miss fisher!
Tumblr media
alas for the main event, and what if this scene was my last straw 😭
Tumblr media
i love how we went from jack not wanting phryne anywhere near his crime scenes to him having the paperwork ready and giving her his childhood badge so they can work together. that’s what we call development, kids. and only a couple of episodes after he gave her that brooch. he’ll never ask her that question and he’ll never give her the ring but boy is he asking all the other questions in all the other ways, and if that paper and that badge aren’t symbolism for a certain kind of lasting union - but custom tailored to the two of them - i will eat my hat!
and can we take a moment to ~reflect and properly consider how fast phryne signed those papers. no hesitation, no questions asked before committing herself to whatever jack was offering. for me, that was such a ~moment; the way her trust in him is unquestioning and absolute.
no but this might be my favourite still of her ever actually:
Tumblr media
i can’t stop thinking about it, how she looks at him like he hung the moon and it’s actually incredibly endearing the way she is just so obviously crazy about him 😭 and it’s the way he still seems pretty oblivious to the extent of her feelings is what really gets me. i mean, obviously he ~knows she wants him, she has never been shy about that; and he knows she cares about him, and he probably knows she likes him. but i don’t think he actually realises exactly how head-over-heels in love she is with him (hint: it’s about the same amount he’s in love with her).
and there’s something about the above cap that makes it a sister cap to this one:
Tumblr media
the two scenes just give the same energy. phryne fisher, bare faced and smitten with jack robinson.
the internal device scene was comic gold, i am still loling at it moving, at hugh’s realisation, at jack being amusedly unfazed. i mean season one jack would have absolutely blushed and stammered his way through that but our season three jack has had the benefit of miss phryne fisher completely invade his life and that guy is made of sterner stuff 🏌🏻‍♀️
IT’S SO MUCH BETTER WHEN HE DOES IT WITH HIS TEETH line 😭 good grief, jealous phryne is my favourite phryne, i fear. it’s nothing out of control and it doesn’t linger or colour her actions or define their relationship even for a bit; which is what makes it so delicious when she indulges in that moment of asserting herself as the woman in jack’s life. full marks! (also full marks for jack never giving these women but an inch. i love that.)
no but jack’s brain hasn’t had a steady blood supply for two straight seasons now; he is god’s strongest strongest soldier
Tumblr media
i suppose the blood supply issue explains my hypothetical above about how the hell does he not see she’s crazy about him 😭
them playing tennis like the couple they are, i hate them actually. their canon relationship game will serve, i know it. (parampapshh 🥁)
anyway, it’s really gonna be the last episode huh they’re really like that 😮‍💨 tbh with this sort of absolutely insane off the charts chemistry and incredible build-up, i can’t say i even mind. i’m not someone who needs to see the day-to-day of an established relationship, and while it would have been great to see them work on a case or two as a couple, to see them bickering and teasing and being them together for a season, i’m equally happy to leave that to fic. the build up is so much more important; the way two people find their way to each other, and honestly with this show it feels so earned.

List 10 songs with names in the title that I like, and then tag 10 people
thanks @kiraziwrites for the tag! I actually have an entire Spotify playlist dedicated to songs with names in the title (it is more than 140 tracks and counting) but these are my absolute favourites (I left out musicals, otherwise Hamilton would be most of these):
1. Aïcha by Khaled
Khaled is an Algerian raï singer and his voice in this is spectacular (definitely listen to the French-Arabic version). He’s singing about a beautiful woman who walks past him as if he does not exist, and he offers her jewels, gold, poems, songs, everything - and she’s like “keep your treasures, all I want is to have the same rights as you”
2. Alexandra Leaving by Leonard Cohen
This is based on the C. P. Cavafy poem ‘The God Abandons Antony’ (which is also the inspiration for one of my favourite Miss Fisher fics): “Say goodbye to Alexandra leaving/ Then say goodbye to Alexandra lost”.
3. Isis by Bob Dylan
A classic Dylan story song! The Rolling Thunder Revue live versions are far weirder and more thrilling than the album recording. I listen to it every year on the fifth day of May, in the drizzling rain.
4. Kathy’s Song by Simon & Garfunkel
“I stand alone without beliefs/ The only truth I know is you”
5. Maria by Blondie
“She doesn’t know your name/ And your heart beats like a subway train”
6. Mary Hamilton, anon
This is a Child ballad originating in 1500s Scotland; it’s also known as ‘The Four Marys’. Mary Hamilton is an attendant to the Queen of Scots who bears the King’s child, casts it out to sea and is hung for infanticide. This is Joan Baez’s quietly devastating cover.
7. Samson by Regina Spektor
My favourite of all the songs on this list: “You are my sweetest downfall/ I loved you first”
8. My Sharona by The Knack
Really great driving song, A+ guitar solo
9. Tom Traubert’s Blues by Tom Waits
A quintessential Waits song - the raw growl of his voice, the potent sadness of the lyrics, “it’s a battered old suitcase to a hotel someplace and a wound that will never heal”
10. Valerie by Mark Ronson ft. Amy Winehouse
This song never fails to pick me up. Oh, Amy.
Tagging (only if you’d like to!): @bropunzeling @eisoj5 @glamorouspixels @heydoeydoey @justplainsalty @leliesblou @nagia-pronounced-neijia @sagiow @swallowtailed @tiltedsyllogism

Hellooo! Can I have "art museum" for Phrack + Jane? 🏛🖼 Thank you 💕
Of course! But, uh, just so you know, this one turned out a little longer than most. Hope you don't mind! 😂
Enjoy, friend! ❤️
-------
“Here it is!”
WIth a bounce of excitement in her step, Phryne led their little group into a room off the main gallery floor and gestured to one of the smaller paintings on the left.
“La Dame Aventureuse,” she announced with an easy grin.
“A little on the nose with the title, isn’t it?” Jack teased, stepping forward to get a better look.
Phryne rolled her eyes, but otherwise ignored Jack’s remark. “I’m so glad Mac let me know this was here,” she continued blithely. “Do you know, I’d forgotten all about this one.”
With a wistful sigh, Phryne turned and gestured for Jane to come closer, which she did. “Emilien was a very nice man, but not the most imaginative artist. I actually think this might have been his best work.”
“Must have been the muse,” Jack remarked dryly, though there was pride in his tone. Phryne put a hand on her hip and raised an eyebrow.
“Jealous, Jack?” she asked, the K in his name clicking like her heels on the museum’s marble floor. “Wishing you’d had your chance as an artist’s model?”
Jack’s lip quirked up in response.
Oh she did like that quirk.
“Oh absolutely,” he replied. “It’s always been my secret dream to randomly find myself in various states of undress in collections across the globe.”
Phryne gave him a suggestive look that even Emilien’s limited imagination would have understood, to which Jack responded with a chastising expression of his own. She opened her mouth to speak — if there was anyone who should constantly be finding themselves in various states of undress it was Jack, and her imagination was not limited at all — but the man in question held up a hand in protest.
“Whatever you’re about to say, stop. You'll traumatise poor Jane.”
Jane laughed and pushed down his hand playfully. “Jack, I’m sixteen!”
“Then you'll traumatise me,” he argued.
Phryne crossed her arms over her chest in defeat. “Fine. But I’m not dropping the other thing.”
“The other — oh the modelling? Phryne, you can’t be serious.”
“I think you’d enjoy it! After all, you learn so many new things about yourself as an artist’s model. And you love learning new things!”
“New things like what?” Jack asked, curious as always. “Besides how thin the French make their gowns,” he added with a glimmer of mischief in his eye; Jack only ever got but so flirty when Jane was around, but also couldn’t seem to stop himself entirely. Phryne stuck out her tongue and then bit her lip in thought.
“Well... like when an artist tells you to look sad, you learn what memories — for you — take the shape of sadness. Or when they want you to stay very still, you learn how to tune out everything but the moment and exist in a state of intense calm. Or you learn things about your body, like what relaxation feels like in your muscles, or — ”
“Or how cold Paris was, apparently,” Jack added in a voice low enough that Jane couldn’t hear.
Phryne laughed.
“Not cold — exciting!” she teased, taking his arm. “When you're the muse, as you put it, you know that the piece — the emotion in the piece — wouldn’t exist without you. It’s an incredible feeling, Jack, and really I think you should give it a go sometime.”
He raised an eyebrow, kissed her cheek, and whispered in her ear.
“Uh, no thanks. Think I’ll stick to crime.”
“Fine, suit yourself,” she conceded, turning the two of them back to the painting Jane was still admiring. Phryne was clothed in this one, but only just, and she watched her lover examine it carefully.
“Well, what do you think?” Phryne asked.
He shrugged, the gesture intended to demonstrate that he didn’t feel qualified to answer, rather than to express disinterest. “Well I can certainly admire the form — ”
And have, Phryne thought cheekily. Enthusiastically.
“ — but it’s not my favourite from the Phryne Fisher Collection.”
“What was your favourite?” Jane asked, turning back from the painting, also curious as always.
Jack tilted his head to the side in thought, wanting to make sure he gave the girl’s question the careful consideration it deserved.
“The one we saw in London,” he finally decided.
Jane frowned, trying to recall it. “The one where she was playing chess?”
“The one where she was winning chess,” Jack amended.
Phryne smiled at him softly, then shook her head. Only Jack would prefer knights to nudity. “You know, I think I’m wearing more in that one than I am in all the others combined,” she joked.
“I’d noticed,” he agreed. “There seems to be a bit of a theme in your work, Miss Fisher. I mean, you’re a lovely woman, but at a certain point it’s just showing off.”
Phryne laughed so loudly at that one the museum guard shot them a warning look. Phryne threw him a dirty one right back, and then opened her mouth to elaborate on it.
“Please don’t get us thrown out, Miss Phryne,” Jane pleaded quietly. “I want to come back this summer — they’re doing a whole show on Berthe Morisot.”
“Fine,” Phryne said, turning her back on the guard. “But I’m not happy about it.”
“Don’t worry, Jane,” Jack said in a low voice, offering the girl his arm, which she gladly took. “You’re in safe hands here — if Miss Fisher gets herself banned, I’ll use my years of undercover experience to sneak us in.”
“Well then obviously we’ll need matching disguises.” Jane added eagerly. “Oh! We can pretend to be Morisot’s descendants!”
“Absolutely,” he agreed. “Most convincing Parisians Melbourne has ever seen.”
Jane laughed as Jack pretended to twirl a fake moustache and started towards the door, and Phryne’s heart swelled to see them together. Jane had had such a hard life for so long... to see how gentle and kind and patient Jack was with her — now, before, always — was truly wonderful.
Phryne loved many, many people, but the two currently laughing together in terrible French accents held a most sacred place in her heart.
She watched them a moment longer, then shook her head a little to bring herself back, and, together, the three of them moved on to the next gallery. But on the way out Phryne made sure to flash the museum guard her most blinding smile.

“Why are we here again?”
“Because we’re supporting Jane.”
“Ah yes, right right.”
Phryne shook her head at Jack’s grousing and the two of them scooted their way down the line of seats, waiting for the headmistress to speak, and Phryne was proud of her partner for only checking his watch twice as they did. Finally the woman in question took the podium.
“Good evening, everyone. Thank you for joining us here at Warleigh Grammar for our graduating students’ final art projects. Tonight you will hear poetry and music, and are then invited to tour our mini gallery as refreshments are served.”
Everyone clapped politely, and then continued clapping politely through all the poetry and music. Phryne checked the program, expecting to see Jane’s name under one of the two — Jane had been rather adamant that they attend tonight — but it wasn’t there. She frowned, confused, but soon enough the performances were over and Phryne and Jack made their way to the mini gallery with everyone else. They glanced at a few of the pieces — the standard fruit bowls and vases one would expect from teenaged art students — and Phryne noticed with amusement Jack checking out the food table when he thought she wasn’t looking, but then something else caught her eye. She moved over to a different section of the gallery, and stopped dead in her tracks.
There, on the wall, was a painting of a bicycle. But, not the full bicycle. It was just the handlebars, and the front wheel, a girl’s skirt just visible around the edges; the perspective was that of the rider. The wheel appeared to be wobbling, and young fingers gripped the handlebars tightly, but, next to them, also on the handlebar and supporting the rider and keeping her from harm, were another set of hands. Older. Male. Familiar.
Jack’s.
Phryne knew those hands. Phryne dreamed about those hands. She quickly checked the piece’s title card as Jack came over to join her.
“What’s this?” he asked, a frown of puzzlement on his face, like he knew this was something but didn’t know what yet.
“Jane’s entry,” Phryne replied softly. “I believe it’s when you taught her to ride a bicycle.”
“So it is,” he agreed, smiling a little at the artwork. “It’s quite good, isn’t it? And it seems I’ve become an artist’s model after all,” he joked, wiggling his fingers at her playfully. “What did she title it?”
Phryne swallowed around the lump in her throat.
“Safe Hands,” she said, and then she watched as Jack’s impish smile was replaced by something deeper — a smile more solemn, more significant, more profound.
“Ah,” he said. “Well then.” He stared at the piece, his hands behind his back, and rocked on his heels slightly, trying to maintain a facade of nonchalant interest and probably succeeding to anyone who wasn’t Phryne. When he finally settled, Phryne just took his arm.
“So... you’re a model now, Jack,” she said quietly, admiring Jane’s work. “What did you learn about yourself?”
“I think,” he began slowly, eyes straight ahead, looking to all the world like a police inspector casually taking in a student’s painting and not a man in the middle of an emotional epiphany. “I think I might know what new memory will take the shape of joy.”
“Do you know what, Jack? Me too.”
Phryne squeezed his arm, and he did the same to her hand and, together, the two of them went off in search of Jane.
