The Emperor's Castle & other places
Just comparing a few things to try and figure out if Darius and/or Raine were living at the castle in Season 2.
So, those are all shots of the Emperor's Castle. The design stays consistent between season 1 and 2, with big triangular battlements and tall windows. Also, those windows have a diamond pattern up close. We can also see where Hunter's room is.
Here, we see what is presumably Darius's home. And while the gold aesthetic fits with the castle, the details don't. The window looks completely different and the walls are smooth, while all the walls in the castle are blank stone.
If this is in the castle, Darius must have done some remodelling (which I'm not sure Belos would allow).
-> Darius probably doesn't live in the castle.
In the following scene Terra says goodnight to Raine, implying they are probably staying for the night. Let's see if we can figure out anything.
This one is a lot trickier. Everything her looks very reminiscent of the Emperor's Castle, but all the details are wrong. The battlements have big gaps, and the tower is missing the gold decorations.
But I can't be sure that those aren't just mistakes/revisions, because the battlements on Belos's castle would make that scene impossible, and the missing gold trim might just be something that was overlooked.
So, let's see where that scene would be on the castle
So, it's clearly not the front of the castle, nor could it be the back of the castle. Where we have natural cliffs in Raine's scene, we have walls in Agony of a Witch. Tbh, this view shouldn't exist at all in the castle.
Additionally, the Skull in TTBK is seen head on, while the Skull in AoaW is at an angle.
So, unless all of those are mistakes, Raine is staying at a different castle in TTBK, somewhere west of (and likely further south than) the Emperor's castle.
-> Raine Whispers probably doesn't live at the castle.
(But it's entirely possible that those are just mistakes.)

Humans have to stick together, right?
Luz Stays In The Castle AU by @talisman975
Luz is brought to the castle by the guards and Belos live reaction being "THE CRAB MAIDEN?" /hj
I like this AU a lot! Especially the family bonds of Luz with Hunter and Belos with Hunter. I do hope that I will be able to illustrate this good moments sooner or later. Especially when Belos funally desides to change his attitude towards his nephew and deliberately tries to be a better uncle for him.
Luz was one big good influence on this Wittebane family. And they were good influence on her. (Thank God for things not going south. They could have gone bad PRETTY FAST.)
Btw
I feel like I need to say this.. It is not an AU where everyone pity Belos. I just chose those moments because I felt like it (and because I needed to warm up and this static-poses were easier to draw traditionally.)

Hi....If you don't mind, can I ask, what are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series)? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before......Thanks....
no worries, im happy to answer. and, if i happened to already answer sth, I'll link u to it.
so, fav medias... hmm...
book(s): the radiant emperor duology
ik it just came out and was only recently finished (like, finished Sept 2023 lol) so this is probably bias speaking but i am extremely taken by She Who Became the Sun and He Who Drowned the World, these books are fckn phenomenal. the gender-fuckery, the exploration of gender and sexual performances, the hidden message of embracing ourselves in all our ugliness and 'deficiency' and making a place for ourselves and ppl like us when others shun us. these books are just!!!
documentaries: immortal egypt (Joanne Fletcher)
i really really love documentaries and this mini series hold a special place in my heart bcs i love history and I've always been fascinated by egypt and Joanne's enthusiasm is just so joyous and infectious, i love it. i put this on repeat in the background when i was doing my graduation project in 2018 lol yea, just me listening to egyptian docu while working my ass off on AutoCAD lol
anime: sarusuberi/miss hokusai
idk how to explain but there's just a quality to this animated film that got me going... like, i adore howl's moving castle but miss hokusai is sth else. it's so peaceful but also deeply profound and visceral somehow.
tv series: aircrash investigation
i love planes, i love the Concorde in particular, but it has nth to do with how cool planes are but with how child-me saw riding planes as a thing that only ppl with money could do. it evolved from there.
i also love mysteries and aircrash investigation is both lol
i remember watching it on tv when i was an adolescent and i was fascinated with the mystery and problem-solving of it all ever since.
movie: the prince of egypt
it's a story about love; love that forgives, love that creates hate, love that divides.
drama: nirvana in fire (c-drama), beyond evil (k-drama), kluen cheewit (thai soap opera)
bl-specific: old fashion cupcake (anime AND manga)
the plot of these dramas is impeccable (tho kluen cheewit is extremely dramatic so pls beware lol), the character developments are fckn amazing, and what's even more important is the platonic relationships between the characters!!!
also, special shout-out to thai bl soap opera khun chai/to sir (with love) as well! the drama is off the charts, the characters are flawed & human & infinitely relatable & Tian & Yang's brotherhood is EVERYTHING
just one of the best bls out there and I've consumed A LOT of BLs/yaois... ALL SORT of em lol
the story is really grounded in reality, the plot is so mundane and relatable, the characters are mature but extremely flawed, and the art (in the case of manga) and the acting (in the case of the series) are amazing.
song: queen bee by vannda (contemporary music from my country)
i DO NOT agree with the lyrics AT ALL but i adore the melody. i absolutely love, love, LOVE how he blends traditional khmer music with the modern one. it's not a necessarily modern take but it's sth different. this artist is very good at blending the old w/ the new and i applaud him for that. his music is so pleasing the ear but the fkcn lyrics... urGH
well, a song of his with message that i completely agree with is time to rise with master Kong Nay... though the mixture is too in my face lol which is why i prefer queen bee

Do you think anyone in the castle actually knew Hunter’s name or did they all just call him the golden guard? It must have been isolating if Belos was the only one to use his name
That is... an excellent question.
Strictly, we never hear anyone inside the castle ever refer to Hunter by name other than Belos, but since we don't see a lot of his interactions with people, it's hard to tell. I think Kikimora definitely knew at least, if only because she's terribly nosy and knew Belos' whole business, but then she obviously wasn't going to call him by his name, in part due to feigned respect and in part because other than that she just called him things like "brat" and "little snake" 😭 Considering she also knew about the Golden Guard's graveyard/pit, she might have thought it wasn't important anyway because he was eventually going to be killed.
I truly think it could go both ways, because the Coven Heads at least knew that Hunter was Belos' nephew, so I could see him presenting him all "this is my nephew Hunter, who's going to be the next Golden Guard" so that would generate some hostility against Hunter at the perceived special attention he was getting without earning it. But then again, he could have done the same thing without mentioning his name and it would have the same effect.
I'm going to bet on they didn't know his name, because I think it would make sense with how possessive Belos is of his grimwalkers, and while he has that whole pun with "witch hunter" and Hunter's name, I think even that he would keep to himself even if it would be amusing to him in a twisted way that the witches would never connect the dots there. Plus, exactly as you say, it would heighten the feeling of isolation and Hunter's dependance on Belos, because then Belos would feel like the only one who sees him at a personal level, so the only one who cares about him.
I figure he never made it a rule though, to not tell his name to anyone, it was simply that Hunter had such an antagonistic relationship with everyone else at the castle, or one of superior-subordinate, that simply didn't allow him to get close enough to anyone to share that.
