The Umbrella Academy season 3 review post
I finally finished season 3 of tua even tho I've watched first two seasons first day they came out and oh boy do I have things to talk about-
To begin with, the things I like about new season:
- The way we finally dug into Allison's trauma and how she starts going psychotic is actually a good plot line especially the accent on how she just like any other Umbrella Academy people indulges in self-distructive behavior, she's really just like them
- Diego getting a kid as someone with the biggest daddy issues out there is a realistic plotline because having a kid (even if Stanley's not actually his) heals him in this regard tho he and Lila would get a kid anyway eventually but they really should've been more sad about Stanley thanosing out of the existence you know
- Five being the founder of The Temps Commission makes so much sense as he's the one with the power to travel time of course he's more powerful than it seemed
- Good music scenes. Music is what season 1 was incredible for and what I love about the show. In season 2 there weren't many scenes that caught my attention but in s3 it's definetely better. We got Klaus's death montage with "Crystallised" by The xx and celebration scene with "Another one bites the dust" by Queen + Luther on moon and "Friday I'm in Love" by The Cure these were really nice.
- The Oblivion Hotel is such a cool location and concept (a place for everyone) I like the change of place of action a lot, but the way it's a portal is kinda overused imo
- Lila and Five are still the best characters and carried the season
- Fei is such a cool chara with a distict character design (which most of Sparrow Academy lack tbh)
Now things I don't like:
- Ben being just a placeholder character is such a bummer because instead of getting angst and drama we got a mostly one-dimentional anti-hero who has a completely different personality from Ben. We got a tiny bit of his character when he admitted he just wants to be involved with everyone but it's really minimal.
I can't believe Klaus says "He's an asshole and he's dead to me" like WHAT DO YOU MEAN fuck no Klaus would not say that shit and he would not just give up on him. Yeah Luther says stuff like "I'm glad to see you even if you're different" or whatever but it's Klaus who've spent the most time with Ben.
The way literally any other actor could have played Sparrow Ben and nothing would change is lame af I hope in next season we will see more changes
- Same goes to my dear Grace who's just a placeholder for black hole worshipper like what do you mean we just got one phrase from Diego and that's it??? This whole bit with fake god and stuff really threw me off it didn't go anywhere
- The Sparrow Academy being one-dimentional characters in general like I get producers probably didn't have enough episodes to actually develop characters but holy shit are they boring.
Even if you want to make them just antagonists we had such cool villains in two previous seasons they were original and interesting (aka The powerless podcast-fan male manipulator Peabody and The Cunty Handler)
Also the way the fisrt Sparrows who died were the most annoying and cliche assholes makes them just filler charas
- How show tried to make us feel compassion to Reginald Hargreeves holy shit do I hate this guy- After Klaus realised his father was basically killing him over and over in his childhood instead of Klaus getting mad or upset and having a breakdown we got nothing.
He even came back to new timeline Reginald who's "nicer" for this asshole just to hurt him AGAIN
- Klaus mostly being a comic relief in this season is so fucked I love this character and in previous seasons we had a great look at his life and experiences but now he's just kinda there being high and that's it
"mm I guess he died a few times it's probably enough" - plot writers
no character development whatsoever is just upsetting.
And the amount of unnecessary traumatising aka Reginald training him was really not it, even if it's supposed to be a joke.
- Reginald being a two-faced ass like holy shit is this terrifying. Pogo was the one who gave Sparrows pills and now Klaus helped him to stop taking them and this asshole is taking advantage of naive and vulnerable Klaus.
It is in fact a good plot twist but bro I really did prefer Reginald being a cartoonish villian instead of actual pure evil like how does he have shitty motivation but still does just so much shit.
- The Umbrella Academy family having no improvement in their relationship. They still don't care Klaus relapsed, they still don't care about Viktor. All they care about is their own misery which is really in character but with three seasons out of the way and only one more left I would expect at least something you know.
- Viktor is still left out. Like bro the only compassion he had is only when he transitioned but this is it?? Bro's still waiting till someone comes and cares about him but not only this doesn't happen, he even gets rediculed by Sparrow Ben for that and called emo are you actually kidding me what's with all the hurt with no comfort???
It feels a lot like when you're mentally ill and your family kinda "walks on eggshells" to not trigger you but it's in quotes because they don't actually care. They act nice just because they think you're psycho and you would make less problems if they pretend. And this is very sad, Viktor is such a tragic character.
Okay that's it for now. If you have any thoughts please share in comments!

Something I find fascinating is that the show implies that Five was the odd one out among the children who Reginald did train, that he was one whose potential Reginald actually fostered but who he couldn't keep under control the way he did the other six.
Three seasons in, we have a pretty reasonable idea of what Reginald did to each of the children. Klaus and Ben were terrified of their powers and hated using them. Viktor was unaware of his, because Reginald kept him medicated and subdued. Diego was constantly being undermined and made to feel inferior to Luther, while Luther was both bolstered as a leader but also kept small and docile by Reginald through constant criticism. Allison used her powers to get away with things, using them indiscriminately to get what she wanted, and she remained content with that for a pretty long time, being the last one to leave the Academy, save for Luther. And Five was an arrogant child striving to push his power to new heights - he was not afraid of it, he relished what he could do and wanted to do more.
It seems like Five, different from the other children apart maybe from Allison, was not stifled in developing his powers, but instead was pushed by Reginald to develop both his powers and his mind, as he did need a substantial understanding of maths and physics to be able to apply them. Indications for this are littered throughout the seasons. Luther saying Five always thought himself better than them. The implication that Five would use his teleportation powers as much as possible as a kid. Reginald giving him five stars on his performance report. "Five cheated!" "He adapted." Reginald being fascinated first and foremost by Five's powers at the tiki bar. The implication that things got even worse in the household once Five had gotten lost.
Tumblr media
The implication is very much there that Reginald treated Five differently, did not quite nip him in the bud like he did with most of his siblings, and once that had backfired spectacularly on him, he tightened the grip on the siblings that were left, making them even more miserable than they already were, a situation that spiraled further with Ben's death.
Reginald not keeping quite as tight a lid on Five led to Five being less afraid of him, more willing to openly rebel and defy him, a trait that keeps up all the way through the show. Letting Five's natural curiosity and thirst for knowledge develop what I assume to be reasonably uninhibited also meant that Five did not adhere to Reginald's authority as strongly, because he had an inherent trust in his own abilities that the other children did not have. And it went wrong for both Five and Reginald, with Five overestimating his own abilities and their long-term consequences and Reginald overestimating how obedient Five would be to him, and so Five got lost, never to come back in Reginald's lifetime.
For all intents and purposes, Five should have been Reginald's golden child. He is very powerful - which I think is the key reason of why Reginald treated him the way he did, someone who can control time and space can be useful in many different ways - and he had an inherent drive to explore and better his powers. But he never was, because Reginald could never really figure out how to fully control him. His influence is still stark, but Five is inherently unpredictable and adverse to authority. He genuinely rattles Reginald in every season at least once, and it's all because Reginald raised, as he so nicely put it, "an arrogant son of a bitch".
Just a small addendum about the comics, but this characterisation in the show is interesting to me especially because it is also in the comics, albeit in a much sharper way, like most things taken from the comics. There's the three attached pages from Dallas here below, which is genuinely one of my top three favourite scenes from the comics, it's so good and such clever foreshadowing while also nailing down the dynamic between Five and Reginald within just a few pages. In this passage from the final installment of Dallas, Reginald wants to present Five to brag to some fellow-minded rich dickheads, and Five sabotages it on purpose to embarrass him, and Reginald knows it. And it goes even further, with Gerard Way saying in an interview that Five is called Five because he called his father's bluff about the numbers, that he understood that they are meaningless and chose to adopt his number as a name rather than a rank. In the comics, there was a genuine power play between these two, and it'd be really fun if the show headed in that direction as well, I think it would be incredibly interesting to explore.

pretending for a second that theoretical TUA S4 is going to be real, any predictions you wanna share about it whether its stuff you want or stuff you just think is gonna happen?
This feels like the perfect time to finally get around to answering this, with our now non-hypothetical S4 on the way!
I haven't thought too much about S4, just sort of rotating things in my head, microwaving them. The two thoughts I've really had are:
I want Abigail to be terrible. I want her to be even worse than Reggie. We can have a twist where she's kind and we think she's good with the Umbrellas but then BAM! she's been manipulating them the whole time. None of this "Oh, Reggie used to be such a good person before he was twisted by his grief to get his dead wife back", "oh, Abigail is Good and if only she hadn't been trapped in a box the Umbrellas would have had such a better life". No! I need her to be fucking evil. Please.
I'm really open to whatever the Umbrellas are doing with their New Normal Lives. They're bumbling along, they're figuring it out. I hope they're in contact with one another. What I want that to be for Five is a nice montage of him having no fucking clue what to do. Bouncing between siblings, trying hobbies, trying to figure out how he fits in the world as a 58-year-old-13-year-old, and failing badly at it. Around this, he's drinking. His liver may not see 14, it's a real problem. But like, how does a man that's lived the life Five has had just... Stop? Klaus said it S1, he's "addicted to the apocalypse", and I think it's more Five doesn't know how to live without the apocalypse, as much as he'd rather otherwise. Where I think this settles is eventually him finding a new purpose in investigating the monopoly Reggie seems to have over every industry in the world - he needs something and he doesn't trust Reggie.
A tangent of the above, the thing that Cannot Happen is Five in high school. I'm sorry to those of you who like those fics, that concept, you do you but I fucking hate it. It makes me so uncomfortable. I will riot if they do a "haha! he's a kid so he's in school!". He is a 58-year-old man, just give him his GED and be done with it. I'll beg, if that will help make this not happen. The flip side of this that I dislike but don't viscerally hate is Five doing some normal, adult job and no one is blinking an eye that he's a kid. Let there be an actual consequence to the fact he's a kid, because that is genuinely a very traumatizing thing to have have happened to him and it deserves at least some acknowledgement for how much that would fucking suck.
Adding an unplanned part four, in that I think it would be interesting if Allison is the only one still with her powers (until they do some whatever to get their powers back because there's no way they go an entire season with no powers). She's going to have a redemption, reunite with the siblings. I think there's going to be some Realizations on her end that she is not in the perfect life she thought she was when she got Ray and Claire - she's changed both their contexts and lives, there is going to be things that aren't Quite Right to the versions of them she knows. She loves them, they're real, but they are Different.
We're in uncharted territory with S4, no comic book we can read for the season to be very loosely based off of. It could be literally anything. But neat you wanted the few thoughts I've had about it :)

The Umbrella Academy ranked and rated from the most to the least faithful adaptions of their powers.
(disclaimer: i have yet to watch season 3)
7. Ben - Yup, both in the comics and the show he is a fucked up tentacle guy 10/10
6. Number 5 - Yes he can travel time and space in the show, but is he imbued with the DNA of every known serial killer? No???? 9/10
5. Luthor - In the comics he's a strong guy, and in the show he's a strong guy. But in the comics his gorilla-like body is, in fact, an actual gorilla body his head has been attached to. He couldn't wear human clothes and so couldn't hide his fucked up gorilla body and it was very narratively juicy. I understand it was way cheaper to put the actor in a foam muscle shirt and throw a jacket over it, but this cheap production choice made for a cheaper narrative 7/10
4. Victor/Vanya - The power itself is I guess the same, it's just that how everything relates to it is completely different. In the comics Vanya's powers are so repressed she has to undergo a body altering procedure (which she does voluntarily albeit unhappily) in order to access them, whereas Victor just needed to stop taking his meds. Vanya is only able to control her powers by playing a violin, whereas Victor can control his powers using literally any sound, the trade off for this seems to be that Vanya has precise control over her powers and Victor is easily overwhelmed by his power and loses control. It just serves as another example of how the show's Victor and the comic's Vanya are completely different characters. 5/10
3. Klaus - Nerfed! Like, yeah, sure he can still talk to the dead and that's something i guess, but that something is just a fraction of what comic's Klaus could do. This guy could fly! He could lift objects with his mind! He saved the world by catching the moon! In the show it was funny (in a sad way) to watch him try so hard to suppress his powers with drugs when in the comics all he would've had to do for that was put on a pair of shoes. 3/10
2. Allison - If Klaus was nerfed Allison was fucking declawed and defanged. In the comic her words didn't control people, they manipulated reality itself. She once lied and said she was studying at the library so her powers (without her intention or awareness) manifested another version of herself to go to the library and study. As a child she fought the Lincoln Monument brought to life, and by saying "Mr. President, I heard a rumor you were assassinated," she summoned a giant statue of John Wilkes Booth which shot the Lincoln monument in the head. Comic's Allison doesn't avoid using her powers just because it's morally wrong to control people, she mainly avoids using her powers because it can have far reaching consequences for the world to flippantly alter it. 1/10
And Finally 1. Diego - He didn't get nerfed, he got enhanced, and hoo boy that is so much fucking worse. The show really said "He's got a knife!... superpower." He can change the trajectory of knives i guess?? In the comics his power is the ability to hold his breath underwater indefinitely. He literally almost never uses his power in the comics and that is so important to his story! He's basically just a normal dude! His power being almost always useless informs his whole fucking character and his relationship with Reginald and thus with Luthor! Even though he is in all respects but his lung capacity a normal guy, Diego is the one who kept superheroing as an adult! He's supposed to be just a fucked up dude with a knife fetish and no sense of self preservation, and that doesn't work if he's got an actually useful superpower. -2/10

The Umbrella Academy Season 3 ☂️
i last week finished watching the third season woo !! i used to be so obsessed with tua after watching season 1 that i even ended up getting all the volumes of the comics 😅 after watching season 3 i also reread all the comics back to back in like one sitting lol (spoilers for both the show and the comics coming up 🫣)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
im gonna try my best to not make this sound super confusing when i talk about both season 3 of the show and volume 3 of the comics lol ------------------------------- the comic ---------------------------------so i went into season 3 having not previously read the 3rd volume of the comics meaning i had no idea what would happen, though i did know that the idea of hotel obsidian/oblivion was based off the comics BUT!! i found that the 3rd season of the show practically had nothing to do with the comics other than the title 😭 the plots of the show and comics across all seasons and volumes are both very different and season 3 was the most unlike its corresponding comic. one of the main differences being that the sparrow academy are only introduced at the end of volume 3 of the comics so i honestly dont know where the whole storyline for the 3rd season of the show came from i personally found the plot of the 3rd volume of the comic quite confusing and hard to follow as the perspectives and locations kept changing a lot so im actually rather glad that they chose not to portray the events of this comic in the show. that being said, i did like how each of umbrella siblings had their own storylines/adventures that they were on. probably my favourite storyline in the comics is vanya's ongoing recovery from volume one of the comics and also the pairing of five and allison which happens throughout the comics. i also like that luther and diego's rivalry is present across the comics. ------------------------------- the show --------------------------------- in the show, i find the characters to be much more likeable and more full of personality compared to the comics so season 3 did not disappoint in that respect. it was cool to see aspects of the comics continue to be translated into the show for example allison's reluctance to use her powers is a big thing in both medias AND IM SO GLAD THAT KLAUS FINALLY GOT TO USE THE FULL POTENTIAL OF HIS POWERS IN THE SHOW 😭😭😭 all the other character progression among the umbrella siblings is great as well!!! (we love senior citizen five) i liked the sparrows though some of them did not get much screen time and a few of their powers were a bit lame in my opinion 💀 (marcus and alphonso i am looking at you, sorry not sorry) i love love LOVE fei tho she is sooooo coool and christopher being just a random floating cube is so silly to me plus if you think about it, um some woman gave birth to that?!?!?!?! seeing sparrow ben just get subtly accepted by the umbrella siblings was so sweet like they were lowkey all just so happy to see ben again even if he's different. OH AND SPEAKING OF ACCEPTING!!!!! VIKTOR HARGREEVES 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 madddd props to the producers/writers of the show for giving elliot page a trans character and doing it in such a good way ❤️❤️❤️❤️ im so obsessed with all the different sibling reactions to viktor (also vanya in the comics has short hair sooooooo) ok so a few things i didnt like so much was first of all, luther and sloane romance felt really forced to me and a bittttt weird but ive seen people say that luther was in his himbo era during season 3 so honestly i'll let it slide. secondly there's lila who i disliked in season 2 but then she shows up with stan and i loved stan he was so silly!!!! BUT THEN lila is suddenly actually pregnant😭???? idk man, it gotta hella crazy. um thirdly (this is gonna be a really hot take but hear me out), i know its the whole point of the show and its a reoccurring thing that happens but all this end of the world/apocalypse business is kindaaa boring now 🧍 i guess it does happen differently in each season so its not completely repetitive everytime and i must say that this time was actually my favourite end of the world lol hopefully, the finally season will resolve everything nicely but only time will tell i suppose 👁️👁️. im actually gonna shut up now though because this is getting so long and while i could go on and on about tua im gonna have to stop 😭

Maybe a controversial take, but I think that a lot of the TUA fandom would be happier if we stopped trying to compare The Umbrella Academy to S.tran.ger Th.ings in terms of how much more attention ST gets. I know it’s frustrating when our favorite show doesn’t get the same amount of time, funding, or advertising, but it’s important to look at things from a business perspective.
According to Netflix, Stra.nger Thin.gs has been continually on the global Top 10 list since mid-May, and it's still going strong. It's also the second show in Netflix's history to surpass a billion hours viewed. They know that ST is their cash cow, it consistently has the most viewers, sells the most merch, and it is by far one of their most popular shows. Whether we like it or not, though The Umbrella Academy has done well to keep up, it just doesn't pull those kinds of numbers and its fandom is pretty small by comparison, which is completely understandable. ST thrives on nostalgia and in general is the type of story that more people are into. Meanwhile, TUA is kinda weird, kinda offbeat, kinda juvenile, and its target audience is much smaller than ST which draws horror fans, suspense fans, DnD fans, '80s kids, '80s parents, teens, etc. etc. You know what I'm getting at. ST is just way more relatable and interesting to a broader variety of people, and it many ways, that makes it a very "safe" show. So it's not entirely honest to diss ST like it's a competitor because, although there is some genre crossover, TUA and ST are two completely different pieces of entertainment that appeal to two completely different ranges of audience. It's all apples and oranges at this point.
That isn't to say that we're failing, though, or that TUA is being swept under the rug. Considering the size of the TUA fandom and the show's global popularity (or lack thereof, when comparing it to Netflix's bigger shows), I'd say we actually get a fair amount of extra content and merch. Cool promo photoshoots, figures, shirts, replica uniforms, a spin-off comic for Klaus, BTS stuff including a "making of" book, convention panels, interviews, soundtracks (including vinyl!), quite a lot of activity on Twitter and Instagram from the official accounts, and now a blooper reel... It always stuns me when I see people say we don't get anything when we've always been decently fed for a smaller community.
I'm not saying that it's not okay to be annoyed, emotions are emotions and I get the frustration, but I think we should also try to appreciate the stuff that we do get. It's easy to feel like our fandom is bigger than what it is if we always surround ourselves with other fans, but we really are quite small. I don't know anyone outside of online spaces that watches The Umbrella Academy, and the ones who tried, didn't like it and stopped before finishing S1. That's not any fault of Netflix "not caring" (TUA would be canceled by now if that were true), or that Netflix "cares more" about ST (there's really no "caring" about anything but sales in the big business side of entertainment), it's simply that one is more interesting to more people. For us TUA fans, it sucks, but that's just how it is in a slightly more niche fandom. And that's okay!
Most importantly I think we should remind ourselves that despite whether or not things could have been better with more funding or popularity, we are getting a proper ending for the series. Blackman has, to my knowledge, planned on ending the show at four seasons for a while now. This is a good thing! The show gets to end on its own terms and the writers have a chance to tie up its story rather than milking it for seasons only to be canceled without a proper conclusion or, worse, suffering season rot. Best of all, we also know that Blackman has always been intent on working closely with Gerard Way and is keen on ensuring that the show's end won't be a disservice to the source material. So whatever we get, we can rest assured that it will likely be the best translation of Way's vision for the TUA universe. Not many shows get this kind of luxury, and I feel pretty grateful for that.
I think we're alright, and we're gonna continue to be alright.

What are your thoughts on the 456 dynamic? In the childhood flashbacks we see both Five and Ben look to Klaus in a couple scenes (saying good night to Reg, at the bank, Five leaving, and ofc we have Ben in Klaus' room during Viktor's flashback). That seems especially poigant since we have so few of those insights into their childhood, so I would assume absolutely every detail in them is somehow important. Do you think Klaus had more of a "big brother" role to them before he became an addict?
I doubt it. I get that a lot of people take their numerical order to be their birth order, which I think is technically correct in the comics (albeit over the course of literal milliseconds), but even if that were true, it's a whole different thing for that to be your role in your family. You're not just...born with the temperament to fill the role expected of you in your family. My oldest brother was never like a big brother to me, not really.
Also, it's just...Klaus.
Tumblr media
I also strongly doubt Five would accept someone trying to "big brother" him even in those days. Luther says he always thought he was better than everyone else. I think he'd bristle if someone either tried to lord it over him or even just...implied they were somehow wiser or stronger.
At any rate, Klaus' actual role in the family is as the Mascot. This is a term used in family therapy to describe the member of the dysfunctional family who diffuses tension with humor. If people are laughing, they're not fighting. Life becomes semi-bearable. The Mascot is usually a younger sibling, since a lack of maturity is actually an asset for this role. With this being the role Klaus fell into, no, I don't think he'd be especially suited for an older sibling role.
I wouldn't assume every single detail is important simply because not every single detail is planned. The note for the actors was very likely "you all look around at each other." Actors make their own choices within the framework they are given.
With Ben and Klaus in Klaus' room in the 1.10 flashback, I think Justin and/or Rob have said they think the two of them were very close even before Ben's death. I've also noticed that in that flashback, the wall between Klaus and Vanya's room is already down. Either this was a mistake, or that wall was knocked down by then. My pet theory is that Ben and Klaus knocked down that wall so Ben could room with Klaus, while Vanya moved into a different room.

Finally finished watching Season 3 of The Umbrella Academy and holy hell I need season 4 now. Like right forking now! I need answers!! Also, i forking called it on Allison having a mental break down. I don’t feel her arc or her character was ooc at all. You saw hints of her anger throughout season 2 and losing her daughter and her husband basically broke her and made her just not care anymore. Do i agree with some of the choices that she made? No, but at the same time people go through trauma differently, and people handle that trauma differently. So, i totally get it. I mean, she even tried to rumor herself, so I feel for her; i genuinely do. The only main issue i really had with Allison (similar to my only issue with Ben last season as well as Klaus last season) was the consent issue once again (Ben for possessing Klaus without permission and Klaus for not telling the family that Ben was there to begin with). But it also put a lot of things into perspective for me with Allison. I think i was in denial when i heard that audio montage in season 1 with her rumor trick. I think I always had a feeling that it wasn’t Patrick that she had rumored into loving her, but Luther, and again i was just in denial (keep in mind that i’ve never read the comics, so i only know what i’ve seen off of here and what i’ve read on Wiki), and after seeing what she did to Luther in that scene, it made that theory all the more believable. (Side note, it was sooooo forking great to see Ray again this season. I still wish Raymond, Harlan and Sissy could have joined the others going into the future, but alas it was not meant to be).  Also, can i just say forking finally with Klaus? I’m sooooooo glad he had more of a purpose this season, like i’m still forking pissed off that they gave us this tease of Klaus’ hidden badassery in the beginning of season 2 and then we saw absolutely nothing with him and his powers after that. So, i’m really, REALLY glad they touched upon all of this in this season. Makes me very happy.  Also, I loved Sloan and Luther, Luther deserves to find and have happiness just as much as the rest of his family and they were puppy love adorable to me. I hope he finds her in season 4. I really, truly do.  Also, good to know good old Reginald traumatized 14 children just to get his wife back.  A-hole... (but I’m also intrigued to see where that storyline is gonna go now in season 4, so again, it me, i’m the clown).   I know i have more thoughts on season 3, but i can’t seem to articulate them into actual words right now. However my overall rating for this season would have to be a 7/10. I still have soooo many questions, like with Five and older Five, and i hope they answer them in season 4 since it’s the last season--but i ain’t holding my breath over it either....

what are your thoughts on spidey!viktor hargreeves au?
an ask about my two blorbos? on the blorbo blog? thank you so much
i’m really intrigued by this because at first, viktor doesn’t seem like the most likely spidey!hargreeves. his relationship to his powers is more like the ones wanda or jean grey have (in season one he was pretty much the trope of the powerful woman with emotion-based powers out of control). but actually, he’s closer than any of the other tua characters to the initial characterization of spider-man in comics (with peter parker as a “Midtown High’s only professional wallpaper”). plus it asks the interesting question of: what if viktor had had powers that weren’t wildly overpowered and (initially) unpredictable?
i think viktor — as a teenager probably still going by vanya — would be angstier than peter parker about it. initially he wouldn’t want to use his powers because he doesn’t want to be more of a weirdo: he already feels like a freak every day, no need to climb up walls on top of that.
then his great responsibility moment happens. maybe his beloved uncle pogo dies. or maybe it’s something different. maybe in this universe too he meets leonard. leonard finds out about his powers by accident, and tries to convince him to be a superhero. he’s viktor’s first friend, and he’s talking about how he’s not a freak, he’s special, and why not believe him, right? and then it goes the way spider-man stories go: he gets his hands on a sample of viktor‘s blood somehow, by persuasion or by trickery, and he turns into the green goblin, and he dies tragically, because that’s what heroes need. after that, as a hero, viktor becomes wildly unpopular for causing the death of an innocent high schooler who did nothing wrong, but he also becomes spider-man. (probably a lot of gender elation comes with the media calling him that, which is tempered by the fact that half of these articles seem to hate him.) his identity remains secret, but he starts being spider-man for real. (and more importantly, he starts being viktor.)
other thoughts: i hate to say it, but sissy is like, textbook his gwen. also it would be really fun if the other hargreeves were either 1) part of the avengers which spider-man is weary of because they keep taking him for a villain or 2) in an fantastic four-style group that spider-man worked with occasionally and envied for their good publicity (unlike his terrible one). i’m thinking ben, klaus, five and allison in fantastic four and luther, diego and the sparrows in the avengers. as for reginald…. well, he would make a great kang, wouldn’t he?
also not featured: in spider-gwen, listening to music helps her deal with venom so that she can actually have that universe’s venom on her without going all murderous and stuff. it would be so fitting for viktor’s spider-man and a way to incorporate music and sound in his story in some way. plus, viktor in a band. come on.

As promised.....some initial s3 word vomit under the cut. I’m gonna need a minute to decide how I want to move forward with s3 canon (spoiler alert: i’ll probably continue to stick with my little s1 bubble lmao) but for now here some of are my fave and least fave parts:
i’ve watched the opening dance sequence at least a dozen times now asdfgvfhsj they really committed 110% and i fucking love that and i wish we had more weird venom hallucinations!!
on that note— i’m so disappointed we didn’t get more jayme and alphonso (i actually...saved a url for her before the season even came out because i KNEW i was gonna obsess over the sarcastic black haired venom girl like that is....exactly my brand LMAO)
i was also........pretty annoyed with lila by the end of the season lmao like i understand being a parent is a huge deal but it got to a point where every SINGLE word that came out of her mouth was about babies and like the ENTIRETY of diego’s plot was wrapped up in that and i feel like it took opportunities away for him to bond with his family :/
i’ll be honest, i thought people were being overdramatic when they gave rob the “season mvp” title, but listen...........i genuinely think he earned it!
obviously my biggest critique would be that there was not ONE single mention of dave like i know it was probably just because they didn’t have time to unpack that baggage but listen, klaus’ entire motivation to use his powers in the first season was because of dave’s death like klaus literally DIED in the first season and his IMMEDIATE reaction when he realized he was in the afterlife was to look for dave. dave is the catalyst for all of klaus’ actions and it’s straight up out of character that klaus wouldn’t do anything to get him back.
i also wish there were more angsty emotional scenes because even when klaus was telling reggie what an awful dad he was, i felt like they moved very quickly to the “oh well, let’s bond!” scenes. but overall, i felt that klaus’ transformation was not only well-written, but also filled with a lot of beautiful nuance.
i LOOOOOOVED all the comic references! ESPECIALLY THE WHITE BUFFALO that was phenomenal and i’m so glad they went a different route with the mothers of agony. the religious grace i could’ve done without, but other than that i actually think they did a fantastic job of pulling from comic canon while blazing a new trail
HOWEVER!!!!!!! klaus is motherfucking GERMAN and you can pry that from my cold dead hands.
i’m still so emotional over that plot thread though like ESPECIALLY when klaus gets to tell the other siblings about his mom!!!! when he points to her picture with such fucking conviction and says “this one is mine. her name is rachel and i have her eyes.” like bitch i’m not okay.

Tua season 1, 1st ep
The scene where five, klaus and allison were in the kitchen
Allison asked where's Viktor and Klaus replied that she's just gone
Five said what a pitty, this house have 42 bedrooms, 19 bathrooms but not a single drop of coffee
Then drives off to get coffee
The actual lines may have different wording but the numbers are there
42 bedrooms and 19 bathrooms
Wtf? There are 43 kids with powers
He only got 7 and he only need 7 to ring the bells in the 'reset the word machine'
So the number 42 is clearly not enough and also too much at the same time
And Grace doesn't even HAVE a room. You sicko
He could have done 10 or 46 but noooo
Tumblr media
3 questions
- What are they used for?
Apart from 7 rooms for the siblings, Reggie's and Pogo's, there are 33 left!!
Are those guest rooms? since Reggie has always been a party person (he was seen hosting a party at the mansion in s2)
- Where are them?
The academy have 5 floors including the basement but common areas (kitchen, living room, hallway, stairs...), and Reggie's office took up more than half the building. And the building doesn't seem that big.
??? Did he bought other buildings around the backyard/couryard and those rooms are in there?
- And why?
Partly i think it's an easter egg for the comic or smt and partly i think they are just fucking around with us
Playing with our heads
19 bathrooms. Girl what's going on
So many question
Wft Reggie

Lost_Scarecrow commented on my fic with engaging statements about how the Mk gang and Redson’s family have more experience and overall power qhen it comes to the Umbrellas and it got me thinking if we were to flat out think about the Umbrella characters how would things pan out.
Considering the everyday op villains of the week that Mk's gang face, I totally get you. The Umbrella would look at them like they're crazy hearing all this cartoon sh*t. Just the thought of their faces makes me laugh honestly.
At first I thought the same thing you did, but the more I mulled over it and kinda skimmed though the comics, I realised that the Umbrella (some of them) would actually stand a chance if they used the powers to their full extent and with proper practice.
Some that stood out to me is that, so far, most of the Monkey gang have displayed, or rather, prefer using physical powers. (I don't know how else to put it.) Things like strength, transformations, beams, speed, etc. From their lore that I know of most do use magic that's not physical, but rarely. Ancient artifacts, lady bone demon's mind control, the scrolls, etc.
Considering their fighting styles, I immediately ruled out Luther and Diego. The Mk gang would easily be able to deflect and reflect 2x as hard. Then I came to Allison. Her power kinda functions in the same as LBD if she managed to get close enough to one of them. As we have seen previously, they are not able to deflect mind control so they wouldn't be able the deflect her rumors (we've even seen that now she may not even need to say "I heard a rumor")
Next Viktor. Truthfully, I haven't done a real deep dive on him, so yeah. From what I know now Viktor could start off with bursting some eardrums and destroying people's sense of balance. You can't exactly defend yourself from that. For people who can heal quickly like Monkey King it's not a problem, but for others...
Viktor also has powers like force-field generation and matter manipulation. He has been shown have some sort of telekinesis. If he wanted he could like blow up a liver or lung or something. Heart for a fatality and that's only some of what he can do.
Lila can copy. That goes a long way and that's all I need to say.
Klaus, firstly, is immortal. Next, Klaus can literally utilize the undead to do his biding as we saw in the beginning of season 2 when he conjoined up the dead soldiers to fight for him and catch him when he fell. He could literally make his own army to fight for him and they would never die as long as Klaus never died. That would be an issue for the Mk gang.
Lastly, Five. Five is literally called the most dangerous temporal assassin in the field and the most powerful man in time. There is a lot he hasn't done in the show with his powers (which I hope we will see later on) I feel like there is a lot he could do with his time travel, but right now he's afraid of f***ing everything up again, so he's kind of holding off on it. Speaking about his teleportation, Five is able to teleport other people and objects. He could just teleport his enemies to different parts of the world if he wanted to make time. Or in front of a bus or something... If things didn't go they way he wanted he could just go back to the start of the day or a couple years prior if he wanted to prepare to the highest degree. Five's also a quick study and smart as hell which has benefited him multiple time and I bet would benefit him in his fight with the Mk gang as well. He has genuis-level intellect and an expert tactician.
Sorry for the long breakdown. I've been meaning to spew these overflowing thoughts.

I really get what you mean when you say that the style klaus uses in season 2/3 kinda symbolised his healing but if he doesn't wear eyeliner in s4 i might die cause he just looks so pretty <3, his eyes pops soooo much. But like also I'd like to get a bit more of the gender nc back cause it feels like that got "lost in time", I get that in the '60s he kinda had to restrain his gender expression but we are back in 2019ish
Tumblr media
^^^^^^ This is EXACTLY how I feel, AAAHHH. I want the long hair and the soft style but I also miss the eyeliner, I miss the skirts, and I do think he came a LITTLE nearer that in s3? Like the green velvet suit was pretty androgynous, and most of his footwear is, too. But yeah. I miss the gnc, the genderfluid identity, even. When I write him, I tend to dial that up because I just find Klaus's liminality (between living and dead, "male" and "female," etc) such a compelling part of his identity. I think it's actually my favorite difference between comics and Netflix Klaus.
It's also why I was kind of hoping he'd be the one to bond with Viktor over coming out as trans, even though being genderfluid and being trans are not the same exact thing. But they also both lost a first true love who was a closeted queer person to the sixties. I'm not sure why they literally spoke like two direct sentences to each other after season 2, when they seemed to bond so much. Gah. Non sequitur except that it relates to you feeling frustrated that the gnc thing has been lost in time.
We can hope???? I also think I am going to draw more of him in dresses now. If I ever get past my depression-induced artist's block :(

Honestly I'm surprised we get any extras at all given how much this "fandom" complains about absolutely everything. From the very first piece of information we get about a new season, you get all the negative Nancies shouting their opinions about how much they hate certain storylines or distrust The Writers or expect the new material to suck because they had a prophetic dream or whatever. (Maybe I’m overly dramatic but I’ve wanted to quit this fandom so many times because of all the negativity, it’s not even funny.) And this doesn’t just happen here on Tumblr but also on Twitter and Instagram (and I’m sure TIkTok as well), on the official Netflix and TUA accounts' posts. If I were on the marketing team I’d not be super enthused about engaging with the fans, either. There’s actually just been an article on Business Insider about how Netflix’s data analysis team kind of runs its creative decisions (/how-netflix-uses-data-creative-decisions-renew-tv-films-analytics-2022-9?r=US&IR=T). They advise on which shows to acquire, which to renew, and how much money to spend on them by analyzing performance but also audience insight. I wouldn’t be surprised if that included social media even though the article doesn’t outright state it. And this practice is contentious, sure. To quote the article: "Sometimes it was helpful and sometimes it was totally useless," [a former exec] said of Netflix's analytics. "If something is really unique or a risk, they're not going to say, 'Go with God,' or 'Take that risk.' They'll say, 'Our data does not support [it]." So if you’re wondering why some of Netflix’s decisions seem really random or stupid maybe it’s because someone listened to an algorithm rather than using their own brain, which is definitely a flaw Netflix needs to work on, especially for a show like TUA that does fall under the “completely unique” category imo. On top of that, ST is a Netflix-only production while TUA is actually co-owned by NBC Universal. So the reason Netflix’s own social accounts aren’t as active in advertising the show is likely because some of that responsibility falls on NBC. And the reason we don’t get more tie-in media for TUA as ST does could very well be due to Dark Horse being involved in the whole business – they gave us the S1 “making of” book and the Klaus spin-off and the National Comic Book Day poster but could definitely do a lot more in terms of cross-advertisement. So the lack of content and merch doesn’t entirely fall on Netflix’s shoulders, I think. TUA is very different from ST not only in audience appeal but also in the amount of copyright holders, businesses, and decision makers involved.
Ahh, darn, the article is behind a paywall! But just from what you said, that’s fascinating. I find it heartening that Netflix seems to want to listen to fans and what they’re saying, and yet troubling that it seems it’s largely done through an algorithm. They’re missing the mark by this much! 🤏
A lot of big corporations seem to be leaning that way--that is, toward using algorithms rather than putting in all the elbow grease themselves, which, yeah, is rarely good. Algorithms can be clunky and they never work as well because they aren’t capable of understanding nuance. But if the algorithm is picking up a lot of negativity from people complaining about the show, then I can see how Netflix might decide pumping more money into TUA is less worth the risk.
As for the whole TUA and NBC/Dark Horse thing, yeah, I was wondering something similar about that! ST is a Netflix original, but TUA is a pre-existing IP so I would think that even if Netflix has the license to stream TUA, they would have to go through more paperwork to do the things that they do for ST, and how NBC or Dark Horse prioritizes franchises is a whole new can of worms. It’s hard to point fingers at any one responsible source, but then I also don’t really think it’s necessary to point at all. “Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth” and all that.

☰ Yandere Personality Types  〔Big Five〕
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
☰ Overview
〔Disclaimer〕 Yandere behavior and mindsets are not healthy, nor should they be sought after: this is just meant to be a fun way to analyze characters and see/understand how they may fit into this specific genre of fictional horror.
This personality ‘assessment’ was inspired by @ddarker-dreams‘s ‘Yandere MBTI’ as I adore their writing and have always thought that their MBTI assessment is really cool! I also noticed how other people enjoy it so I thought I would make my own assessment, though mine is inspired by the ‘Big Five Personality Traits’. I even tried to be creative and add in the little circles that you can find on the actual Big Five assessment too (which is 100% free btw!). I don’t really think I did the Big Five assessment justice, and I think that a lot more goes into the complexities around this kinda thing, but hopefully this is somewhat interesting!
If you have your own thoughts or even wanna try this out, 100% feel free to use or talk to me about it! Check it out below the cut!
Tumblr media
☰  OPEN   •  •  •  •  •  CLOSED
〔Open〕 yanderes are blatant about their obsession. They do not try and hide it either because they believe it’s meant to be, because they’re too deep in their delusions to understand that it might be a good idea to keep their mouth shut, or simply because they’re in a position to not care about hiding their interest. Usually, this type of yandere is either seen as somewhat of a ‘lovesick puppy’ or a powerful character; though, being a ‘lovesick puppy’ doesn’t necessarily mean kind or affectionate. Whether it was ‘love at first sight’ or more of a slow-burn, these characters usually roll with their feelings with little to no hesitation. Situations with this type of yandere usually include darlings who are unaware of the yandere’s emotions (or even their existence) until they’re suddenly confronted, kidnapped, or confessed to seemingly out of the blue.
examples︙Anasui 〔 jjba. Stone Ocean〕,  Diavolo & Doppio 〔 jjba. Golden Wind〕, Pina 〔Beastars〕, & Zeke Yeagar 〔Attack on Titan〕.
〔Closed〕 yanderes try to hide their obsessive mindset or behaviors. While they might not always be successful at hiding their interest, closed yandere types are either ashamed/embarrassed by their feelings or are frustrated by them in some way. Usually this type of yandere will ignore/avoid their darling in hopes of losing their feelings, or pretend their feelings don’t exist. This type of yandere is either upset at themselves for having these feelings or upset at their darling for ‘making’ them feel that way. Darling can possibly see their behavior coming and try to avoid the character, but this type of yandere is likely to ‘snap’ at some point and somehow corner their darling as an attempt at controlling their obsession or feelings (though, sometimes this is just the yandere trying to excuse their behavior).
examples︙Avdol〔jjba. SDC〕, Legoshi 〔Beastars〕, Alucard 〔Castlevania〕, & Klaus Hargreeves 〔The Umbrella Academy〕.
☰ Questions to consider when categorizing a yandere
〔 ⅰ. 〕 How does their behavior shift when they realize they’re obsessed?
〔 ⅱ. 〕 What are their opinions on their darling? Does this character adore them? Do they blame darling for their behavior (if so, are they angry about it)?
〔 ⅲ. 〕 How comfortable is this yandere with their feelings and/or actions in regards to their darling?
Tumblr media
☰  CASUAL  •  •  •  •  •  DIRECT
〔Casual〕 yanderes do not actively pursue their darling. This type of character is typically laid-back. They either believe that darling will inevitably fall ‘into line’ or is mellow enough to be content with simply being in darling’s life. Casual yanderes are either delusional or are not possessive enough to want more than close friendship from their darling. Though it usually takes a specific type of character for this, some yanderes here believe that they’re already in a relationship with their darling and therefore feel no need to chase after them. This kind of character can confuse their darling, and make it more difficult to get away, as their behavior can be waived off if the character is perceived as harmless, gains darling’s sympathy in some way, or otherwise is not vocal about their delusional thinking/is charming enough to convince darling to just go along with it. Some of these characters are willing to let go if darling catches on early enough, though most will just slowly follow behind regardless of what darling does (though this behavior/these reactions will definitely vary/be different depending on the character).
examples︙ Mista 〔jjba. Golden Wind〕, Luther Hargreeves 〔The Umbrella Academy〕, Connie Springer 〔Attack on Titan〕, & Cater Diamond 〔Twisted Wonderland〕.
〔Direct〕 yanderes, as their name suggests, directly or actively pursue their darling. Usually strict or over-bearing, these characters actively chase after their darling’s affections (or otherwise whatever goal relationship the yandere wants). This yandere makes organized, sometimes step by step, plans in order to achieve their goal. It depends on the character whether they get angry when plans have to be changed or if they just shift their angle, however, these characters are focused and will not be discouraged should darling fight against their plans. If anything, some of these characters will be encouraged by their darling fighting back for various reasons (for example, if they’re delusional or just thing it’s a part of the whole ‘chase’ thing/enjoy it). These characters will almost never give up on their darling regardless of what happens.
examples︙ Giorno Giovanna 〔jjba. Golden Wind〕, Armin Arlert 〔Attack on Titan〕, Rook Hunt 〔Twisted Wonderland〕, & Jason Todd 〔DC Comics〕.
☰ Questions to consider when categorizing a yandere
〔 ⅰ. 〕 How goal-oriented is this character, especially when it comes to their darling?
〔 ⅱ. 〕 How lenient is this character? Are they trying to force a bee-line to a relationship with their darling or are they willing to play the long game?
〔 ⅲ. 〕 Is this character organizing a plan in order to achieve their goal(s)? Or are they completely winging it? If they’re winging it, are they just hoping that everything will naturally fall into place, or do they genuinely believe it’s fated to happen?
Tumblr media
☰  DISCREET  •  •  •  •  •  INTENSE
〔Discreet〕 yanderes either do not have overly strong yandere behaviors or are able to hide said traits enough to be seen as ‘normal’. These characters will usually hide their behavior, regardless of the reasons, in order to have a normal relationship with their darling. While similar to closed character types, discreet yanderes differ in the sense that they usually do not struggle to hide their behavior, and will slowly (or suddenly, depending on the situation, one situation being kidnapping) merge this persona with their actual personality so that darling has no reason to want to leave. While not all characters within this category are fully aware of their behavior, most are intentionally manipulative and have some kind of end goal. They’re not ashamed of this mindset as they believe their reasons (such as “protecting” darling from something) excuse any tears that their darling might shed directly because of this yandere’s actions later on in the ‘relationship’. The period between “normal” and whatever end goal will vary based on the character. This type’s darling can have friends, and even other relationships to an extent (though this does vary), they’ll usually end up reaching the yandere’s goal without knowing about their behavior up until it’s too late to do anything about it.
examples︙ Risotto Nero 〔jjba. Golden Wind〕, Louis 〔Beastars〕, Lilia Vanrouge 〔Twisted Wonderland〕, &  Sinbad 〔Magi〕.
〔Intense〕 yanderes can be defined by their possessiveness, or otherwise intense behavior/mindset/emotions. This type of yandere will usually want to either isolate or monopolize their darling’s time in it’s entirety. While the character might not isolate themselves, they’ll do what they can in order to ensure that their darling is focused solely on them (or whatever goal yandere has in mind). Intense yanderes tend to come off as over-bearing or as harassers/bullies. Depending on their other traits, they will either direct their focus on getting other people away from darling or direct their focus on somehow getting darling away from other people (usually involving kidnapping or isolating them in their home). These characters have a tendency to be either cruel or manipulative and darling might believe that their yandere hates them in some way, even if the character says otherwise.
examples︙ Illuso 〔jjba. Golden Wind〕, Melon 〔Beastars〕, Kouen Ren 〔Magi〕, & Leona Kingscholar 〔Twisted Wonderland〕.
☰ Questions to consider when categorizing a yandere
〔 ⅰ. 〕 How well would this character take rejection? Do they try and rationalize the rejection or do they just accept it (even taking whatever darling said to heart)?
〔 ⅱ. 〕 Can this character handle their darling having friendships? How do they react to darling spending periods of time without them?
〔 ⅲ. 〕 Does this yandere need (or want?) to spend every waking (and sleeping) moment with darling? If so, what is time spent with this yandere like?
Tumblr media
☰  AGREEABLE  •  •  •  •  •  CONTROLLING
〔Agreeable〕 yanderes seem to genuinely care about their darling and see their darling as a breathing person with their own thoughts/feelings. These characters put their darling before themselves, sometimes going as far as seeing them as someone to worship or put on a pedestal, and believe that darling is better than them in some way. In some cases, they see darling as being unable to do anything wrong (to an extent). They’re willing to debate rights or loosen rules/chains (if they even decided to do chain darling in the first place) with darling and are willing to listen to what they have to say. This yandere’s end goal usually involves some kind of genuine relationship, regardless of how delusional that might be.
examples︙ Haru 〔Beastars〕, Floch Forster 〔Attack on Titan〕, Tim Drake 〔DC Comics〕, & Vanya Hargreeves 〔The Umbrella Academy〕.
〔Controlling〕 yanderes do not view their darling as equal, either seeing them as childish (in the sense that they don’t understand things or can’t), seeing them as some kind of pet/trophy, or somewhere in-between. They usually do not care about their darling’s thoughts, feelings, or general well-being. Usually the only thing this yandere cares about is controlling their darling, the connection they have to their darling is the only important thing when it comes to darling as a person. Some of these characters even go as far as not minding if darling dies as long as they still view darling as being theirs (example being, if prince charming kept his princess asleep in order to keep princess to himself). While end goals will vary from yandere to yandere, those in this category typically don’t care how darling feels as long as they’re getting what they want from darling.
examples︙ Kars 〔jjba. Battle Tendency〕, Judar 〔Magi〕, Cioccolata 〔jjba. Golden Wind〕, &  Diavolo 〔 jjba. Golden Wind〕.
☰ Questions to consider when categorizing a yandere
〔 ⅰ. 〕 Does this yandere view darling as a human with their own thoughts/feelings or is darling more of a possession/plaything?
〔 ⅱ. 〕 Is darling’s mental or physical well-being important to this character?
〔 ⅲ. 〕 How many rights does darling have and how quickly are said rights taken away/given back? Are they ever given back? What are the yandere’s motives in taking/giving these rights?
Tumblr media
☰  RESILIENT  •  •  •  •  •  FRAGILE
〔Resilient〕 yanderes will almost never become discouraged. They’re confident in the sense that they know they’ll eventually achieve their goal. This type of character is willing to spend years trying to either break down their darling or otherwise induce a sort of ‘Stockholm syndrome’. Characters who heavily stalk their darling tend to fall into this category. More so, resilient yanderes are not likely to have any sort of breakdown over their darling, regardless of the situation. They’re strong in their thought process, and are not willing to change their mind-set/behavior towards their darling (or anyone else).
examples︙ Ibuki 〔Beastars〕, Bruno Bucciarati 〔jjba. Golden Wind〕,   Jade Leech 〔Twisted Wonderland〕, & Shigaraki Tomura 〔My Hero Academia 〕.
〔Fragile〕 yanderes, as their name suggests, are ‘fragile’ in their goals or mind-set. Usually this type of yandere is either meek or feel overly guilty about their mind-set/behaviors. These characters can be easily swayed by their darling in some way, and they can get distracted from their end-goal if darling plays their cards right. More adoring, worshipper yanderes tend to fall in this category. Characters here usually do not like upsetting their darling and (at times) are desperate for their darling’s approval. While not an inherently manipulative category, fragile yanderes will use methods like gaslighting in order to avoid any kind of confrontation.
examples︙ Pesci 〔jjba. Golden Wind〕, Allison Hargreeves 〔The Umbrella Academy〕, Jack 〔Beastars〕, & Niccolo 〔Attack on Titan〕.
☰ Questions to consider when categorizing a yandere
〔 ⅰ. 〕 How emotional/insecure is this character?
〔 ⅱ. 〕 Is this character confrontational, or would they rather avoid any kind of confrontation by whatever means necessary (such as gaslighting or blackmailing others in the situation)?
〔 ⅲ. 〕 How patient are they? How long are they willing to wait and/or bide their time in order to achieve some sort of goal?
