Do you happen to have any tips on "filling up negative space with random objects" like you mentioned in the tags of your "product of your environment" WIP post?

The finished piece is absolutely breathtaking and I wondered how you decided on what objects to use and how you positioned them to make the composition work so well, there's something so compelling and dynamic about it that I can't quite put into words!!

so this is how the piece originally started:

and it was just going to be a little sketch that i didnt put much effort into. i drew that little teacup there and was like huh what if i put more around it?? this turned into the idea of putting Mori pouring the cup, etc. etc. and i now knew what kind of message/theme i wanted this piece to take.

the paper koi were a product of trying to make stuff look more dynamic :D since you can bend and twist them, i thought they'd be a good fluid addition that i could manipulate to make the piece feel more full composition-wise and tie in to the horizontal orientiation i wanted to go for.

in terms of how i pick objects, i usually just browse pinterest for random objects that catch my eye LMAO 😭 its kind of a mixture between going for elegance and aesthetic and also just what i can draw in an interesting pose (teacups are not. usually floating and tipping in air, so taking an object and putting it in a situation it wouldn't be usually gives a comp a really striking effect i think)

i also like to keep in mind motion while i draw, and how "fast" i want this scene to be if it were animated or actually moving. cups pour pretty quickly, but i wanted the other objects to look like they were almost floating or moving very slowly, which is why i think i gravitated towards bigger objects like koi fish and plants. it creates this cool juxtaposition that draws the eye in really well as you're trying to make sense of a piece when you're first looking at it!!

maybe im rambling. but, thats how i got the finished composition!

Out of curiosity how would you describe House of Leaves to someone who hasn’t read it?

You would not believe how hard this question is to answer 💀💀💀

Let‘s start with this: It‘s a ergodic, postmodern text. This book makes you work to get through. If you google it, you will get pictures of the pages: interwoven text, half empty pages, words falling, untethered, blacked out. It‘s a labyrinth that takes the reader and makes them get lost alongside the characters. You have to go back and forth, comparing information, figuring out the way to go, turn the book up and down, compare the footnotes.

Now plot wise: I will not go into detail, let me just tell you that the synopsis on google is definitely not even scratching the surface.

You get a house that hates you personally, you get a broken family, you get the labyrinth and the minotaur, you get horror and grief, you get love.

It’s a story within a story, within a story. You get someone who loses himself, a narrator that will lie to you and call you out if you believe him. You get a book to a movie that doesn’t exist and you get someone who puts a lot of work into finding a house. You get a book that changes everyone in it and maybe it will change you too, a little bit.

Listen, I am terrible at describing things consisely and I think house of leaves is a book that needs to be experienced blindly, simply because nothing could possibly prepare you for it.

What are your thoughts on the story of uni2? Specifically about whether you think it was well-written and a good sequel to uni1

It's. A lot. And at the same time, not enough. Details under the cut.

It really feels like the game was either rushed or had corners cut in terms of story content, considering how much less of it we have. No Chronicle Mode at launch is one thing, but even the arcade modes have less content within them and even less dialogue that's actually interesting. I think the writing for characters like Phonon and especially Nanase got more "normal" in comparison to their previous arcade modes which is at least something I appreciate. Thank you French Bread, I guess. But in return, Erika and Vatista got the short end of the stick. We can never have it all...

Hyde's metric ton of death foreshadowing seems to have went down the garbage bin which makes me personally really sad, but if it means it'll be featured in a future story mode, I'd rather it not be wasted on the lackluster arcade mode of this game.

But is UNI2 a good sequel to the original? I wouldn't say so. Barely any questions from beforehand were answered and more were raised, ones we'll likely never get an answer to if arcade mode is all we got. I don't blame French Bread for focusing on the gameplay aspect since that's what drew most players in to begin with, but it really does hurt as a lore fan.

Alone and Failure? :3 (from neathbound-fiends)

Art hates being alone. He gets bored very easily and with his ADHD that translates to "if I am bored for a single moment I may just explode". He's also of the opinion that one can never be truly bored if you're with someone else (although clergy often test that), so having friends around or just someone to talk to is something he really values. He's also just naturally a very social person - loneliness does not lie well with him. His bewildering procession of companions, lovers, suitors, and paramours keep him sane.

WELL. Art's failed a good bit in his life. Academically back on the surface (the ghost of his half-completed arts doctorate thankfully has been mostly exorcised by his acheivements in the Neath), on the occasional 80% challenge in London, but the one that truly haunts him is (mild early light fingers spoilers) failing to save the Fading Music-hall Singer when escaping from the Orphanage. Art's very protective of those he considers friends, and he very much sees her death as his fault. The early parts of his efforts to help her sister Clarabelle were very much spurred on by that failure (and caused him to spend enough time with Clarabelle to get attached to her), and he's terrified of letting anyone else down like that. He's very much not been able to move past it. Dr Vaughn and Clarabelle and probably Poor Edward know about it, though only Dr Vaughn and Clarabelle have any insight into how much it means to him. Actually, he's also probably talked about it in depth with some of his spouses.

Slightly longer answer, he just does his best to not get sick at all or to only get sick a little bit. He tries to power through as best he can with medicine or whatever he has, even though he knows he shouldn't. Someone always inevitably notices and makes him go to bed and get some rest, usually G'raha or Ophianne, the later of whom also very dramatically makes him some soup lmao

(still up for taking more, too, if anybody wants to ask! :3) [Link to the Chapter for anyone curious] (yes its marked as ch 2 here but AO3 doesn't have a "prologue" or "epilogue" option in itself so that's why!)

This chapter was honestly very fun to write, especially considering I wrote most of it waaayy back when the story was still in its infancy. A lot of the later plot points that I was originally going to work with back then have been re-worked since (and I'm gonna have to go back and make a few tiny edits to a couple of the following chapters, namely changing a cameo since the character I was originally putting in there doesn't exist anymore and got the can in favour of a different one! :P), but Chapter 1 funnily enough is one of the chapters I don't have to change since then because it still holds its place in the story very well imo.

The prologue was Aria's introduction itself, Chapter 1's purpose is very much to fill out my version of the rest of the SWTOR world, since my version takes some very steep deviations from canon at several points. We meet the other "main" side character and set up the suspense of the fact that Aria's NOT a very trustworthy character. She seems to make decisions on a whim (fact), and for selfish reasons that don't always become clear to the other characters immediately, but come full circle later on (for example, the reason she helped Ziri is addressed later in Chapter 4!) Which is part of why I decided to start the story on Taris instead of actually at Tython/the Jedi start point. I wanted it to be very important and very clear that Aria is not actually a Jedi, even if everyone else in the story at this point assumes she is one because well...she has a lightsaber right? This can't possibly be a bad assumption to make that will come back to bite everyone in the ass later, no sir! :'D Aria even has as much of an exchange with one of the NPCs in-chapter pointing this out:

A frustrated groan left Aria's lips as she glanced upwards at the ceiling for a moment, collecting herself. “I'm not a doctor. I can't help her.” Yet again, the Twi'lek man's gaze dropped to the lightsaber hilt resting at her belt. “But you're a Jedi.” "No. No, I'm not.” Aria snorted, fixing him with an unmoving glare. “I want nothing to do with them. I just happen to own a lightsaber and know how to use it, that's all.”

This is both set up/foreshadowing for the later plot point in Ch 8/9 (which will be dropping at some point in the future for newer readers, for older readers who've been here listening to me babble about these idiots from day 1, you probably know what's coming) 😈😈 and also a bit of poetic irony because what happens immediately after this chapter? Surprise Jedi! Aria is not amused xP
