3 and 12 for the end-of-year book ask!
hiiiiiiiii, here goes:
3. What were your top five books of the year?
(Queen of Attolia and other rereads notwithstanding) in no particular order:
Open Water by Caleb Azumah Nelson,
The Violence by Delilah S Dawson,
Moira's Pen by Megan Whalen Turner,
A Far Wilder Magic by Allison Saft
and a tie between The Prophet, by Kahlil Gibran and Slow Days, Fast Company by Eve Babitz
12. Any books that disappointed you?
A fair amount haha! My first read of the year was A Single Thread by Tracy Chevalier and that one disappointed me so much it singlehandedly made me want to read more, just to get that story out of my system. Other notable mentions are The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley and The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty (which had me in a chokehold for 450 pages, but then the ending just didn't land with me)

Transcription of Fall Out Boy's interview with Rock Sound
Tumblr media
Since I was going to read the article anyways, I thought I'd transcribe in case it'll be more accessible to read for others. The interview with Pete and Patrick goes in depth on the topics of tourdust, evolving as a band, So Much (For) Stardust, working with Neal Avron, and more.
Thank you to @nomaptomyowntreasure who kindly shared the photos of the article! Their post is linked here.

Rock Sound Issue #300
WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE
WITH THE TRIUMPHANT ‘SO MUCH (FOR) STARDUST’ CAPTURING A WHOLE NEW GENERATION OF FANS, FALL OUT BOY ARE RIDING HIGH, CELEBRATING THEIR PAST WHILE LOOKING TOWARDS A BRIGHT FUTURE. PETE WENTZ AND PATRICK STUMP REFLECT ON RECENT SUCCESSES AND THE LESSONS LEARNED FROM TWO DECADES OF WRITING AND PERFORMING TOGETHER.
WORDS: James Wilson-Taylor
PHOTOS: Elliott Ingham
You have just completed a US summer tour that included stadium shows and some of your most ambitious production to date. What were your aims going into this particular show?
PETE: Playing stadiums is a funny thing. I pushed pretty hard to do a couple this time because I think that the record Patrick came up with musically lends itself to that feeling of being part of something larger than yourself. When we were designing the cover to the album, it was meant to be all tangible, which was a reaction to tokens and skins that  you can buy and avatars. The title is made out of clay, and the painting is an actual painting. We wanted to approach the show in that way as well. We've been playing in front of a gigantic video wall for the past eight years. Now, we wanted a stage show where you could actually walk inside it.
Did adding the new songs from ‘So Much (For) Stardust’ into the setlist change the way you felt about them?
PATRICK: One of the things that was interesting about the record was that we took a lot of time figuring out what it was going to be, what it was going to sound like. We experimented with so many different things. I was instantly really proud. I felt really good about this record but it wasn’t until we got on stage and you’re playing the songs in between our catalogue that I really felt that. It was really noticeable from the first day on this tour - we felt like a different band. There's a new energy to it. There was something that I could hear live that I couldn't hear before.
You also revisited a lot of older tracks and b-sides on this tour, including many from the ‘Folie à Deux’-era. What prompted those choices?
PETE: There were some lean years where there weren't a lot of rock bands being played on pop radio or playing award shows so we tried to play the biggest songs, the biggest versions of them. We tried to make our thing really airtight, bulletproof so that when we played next to whoever the top artist was, people were like, ‘oh yeah, they should be here.’ The culture shift in the world is so interesting because now, maybe rather than going wider, it makes more sense to go deeper with people. We thought about that in the way that we listen to music and the way we watch films. Playing a song that is a b-side or barely made a record but is someone’s favourite song makes a lot of sense in this era.
PATRICK: I think there also was a period there where, to Pete’s point, it was a weird time to be a rock band. We had this very strange thing that happened to us, and not a lot of our friends for some reason, where we had a bunch of hits, right? And it didn’t make any sense to me. It still doesn’t make sense to me. But there was a kind of novelty, where we could play a whole set of songs that a lot of people know. It was fun and rewarding for us to do that. But then you run the risk of playing the same set forever. I want to love the songs that we play. I want to care about it and put passion into what we do. And there’s no sustainable way to just do the same thing every night and not get jaded. We weren’t getting there but I really wanted to make sure that we don’t ever get there.
PETE: In the origin of Fall Out Boy, what happened at our concerts was we knew how to play five songs really fast and jumped off walls and the fire marshal would shut it down. It was what made the show memorable, but we wanted to be able to last and so we tried to perfect our show and the songs and the stage show and make it flawless. Then you don’t really know how much spontaneity you want to include, because something could go wrong. When we started this tour, and we did a couple of spontaneous things, it opened us up to more. Because things did go wrong and that’s what made the show special. We’re doing what is the most punk rock version of what we could be doing right now.
You seem generally a lot more comfortable celebrating your past success at this point in your career.
PETE: I think it’s actually not a change from our past. I love those records, but I never want to treat them in a cynical way. I never want there to be a wink and a smile where we’re just doing this because it’s the anniversary. This was us celebrating these random songs and we hope people celebrate them with us. There was a purity to it that felt in line with how we’ve always felt about it. I love ‘Folie à Deux’ - out of any Fall Out Boy record that's probably the one I would listen to. But I just never wanted it to be done in a cynical way, where we feel like we have to. But celebrating it in a way where there’s the purity of how we felt when we wrote the song originally. I think that’s fucking awesome.
PATRICK: Music is a weird art form. Because when you’re an actor and you play a character, that is a specific thing. James Bond always wears a suit and has a gun and is a secret agent. If you change one thing, that’s fine, but you can’t really change all of it. But bands are just people. You are yourself. People get attached to it like it’s a story but it’s not. That was always something I found difficult. For the story, it’s always good to say, ‘it’s the 20th anniversary, let’s go do the 20th anniversary tour’, that’s a good story thing. But it’s not always honest. We never stopped playing a lot of the songs from ‘Take This To Your Grave’, right? So why would I need to do a 20-year anniversary and perform all the songs back to back? The only reason would be because it would probably sell a lot of tickets and I don’t really ever want to be motivated by that, frankly.
One of the things that’s been amazing is that now as the band has been around for a while, we have different layers of audience. I love ‘Folie à Deux’, I do, I love that record. But I had a really personally negative experience of touring on it. So that’s what I think of when I think of that record initially. It had to be brought back to me for me to appreciate it, for me to go, ‘oh, this record is really great. I should be happy with this. I should want to play this,’ So that’s why we got into a lot of the b-sides because we realised that our perspectives on a lot of these songs were based in our feelings and experiences from when we were making them. But you can find new experiences if you play those songs. You can make new memories with them.
You alluded there to the 20th anniversary of ‘Take This To Your Grave’. Obviously you have changed and developed as a band hugely since then. But is there anything you can point to about making that debut record that has remained a part of your process since then?
PETE: We have a language, the band, and it’s definitely a language of cinema and film. That’s maintained through time. We had very disparate music tastes and influences but I think film was a place we really aligned. You could have a deep discussion, because none of us were filmmakers. You could say which part was good and which part sucked and not hurt anybody’s feelings, because you weren’t going out to make a film the next day. Whereas with music, I think if we’d only had that to talk about, we would have turned out a different band.
PATRICK: ‘Take This To Your Grave’, even though it’s absolutely our first record, there’s an element of it that’s still a work in progress. It is still a band figuring itself out. Andy wasn’t even officially in the band for half of the recording, right? I wasn’t even officially the guitar player for half of the recording. We were still bumbling through it. There was something that popped up a couple times throughout the record where you got these little inklings of who the band really was. We really explored that on ‘From Under the Cork Tree’’. So when we talk about what has remained the same… I didn’t want to be a singer, I didn’t know anything about singing, I wasn’t playing on that. I didn’t even plan to really be in this band for that long because Pete had a real band that really toured so I thought this was gonna be a side project. So there’s always been this element within the band where I don’t put too many expectations on things and then Pete has this really big ambition, creatively. There’s this great interplay between the tour of us where I’m kind of oblivious, and I don’t know when I’m putting out a big idea and Pete has this amazing vision to find what goes where. There’s something really magical about that because I never could have done a band like this without it. We needed everybody, we needed all four of us. And I think that’s the thing that hasn’t changed - the four of us just being ourselves and trying to figure things out. Listening back to ‘Folie’ or ‘Infinity On High’ or ‘American Beauty’. I’m always amazed at how much better they are than I remember. I listened to ‘MANIA’ the other day. I have a lot of misgivings about that record, a lot of things I’m frustrated about. But then I’m listening to it and I’m like, ‘this is pretty good.’ There’s a lot of good things in there. I don’t know why, it’s kind of like you can’t see those things. It’s kind of amazing to have Pete be able to see those things. And likewise, sometimes Pete has no idea when he writes something brilliant, as a lyricist, and I have to go, ‘No, I’m gonna keep that one, I’m gonna use that.’
On ‘So Much (For) Stardust’ you teamed up with producer Neal Avron again for the first time since 2008. Given how much time has passed, did it take a minute to reestablish that connection or did you pick up where you left off?
PATRICK: It really didn’t feel like any time had passed between us and Neal. It was pretty seamless in terms of working with him. But then there was also the weird aspect where the last time we worked with him was kind of contentious. Interpersonally, the four of us were kind of fighting with each other…as much as we do anyway. We say that and then that myth gets built bigger than it was. We were always pretty cool with each other. It’s just that the least cool was making ‘Folie’. So then getting into it again for this record, it was like no time had passed as people but the four of us got on better so we had more to bring to Neal.
PETE: It’s a little bit like when you return to your parents’ house for the holiday break when you’re in college. It’s the same house but now I can drink with my parents. We’d grown up and the first times we worked with Neal, he had to do so much more boy scout leadership, ‘you guys are all gonna be okay, we’re gonna do this activity to earn this badge so you guys don’t fucking murder each other.’ This time, we probably got a different version of Neal that was even more creative, because he had to do less psychotherapy.
He went deep too. Sometimes when you’re in a session with somebody, and they’re like, ‘what are we singing about?’, I’ll just be like, ‘stuff’. He was not cool with ‘stuff’. I would get up and go into the bathroom outside the studio and look in the mirror, and think ‘what is it about? How deep are we gonna go?’ That’s a little bit scarier to ask yourself. If last time Neal was like a boy scout leader, this time, it was more like a Sherpa. He was helping us get to the summit.
The title track of the album also finds you in a very reflective mood, even bringing back lyrics from ‘Love From the Other Side’. How would you describe the meaning behind that title and the song itself?
PETE: The record title has a couple of different meanings, I guess. The biggest one to me is that we basically all are former stars. That’s what we’re made of, those pieces of carbon. It still feels like the world’s gonna blow and it’s all moving too fast and the wrong things are moving too slow. That track in particular looks back at where you sometimes wish things had gone differently. But this is more from the perspective of when you’re watching a space movie, and they’re too far away and they can’t quite make it back. It doesn’t matter what they do and at some point, the astronaut accepts that. But they’re close enough that you can see the look on their face. I feel like there’s moments like that in the title track. I wish some things were different. But, as an adult going through this, you are too far away from the tether, and you’re just floating into space. It is sad and lonely but in some ways, it’s kind of freeing, because there’s other aspects of our world and my life that I love and I want to keep shaping and changing.
Patrick: I’ll open up Pete’s lyrics and I just start hearing things. It almost feels effortless in a lot of ways. I just read his lyrics and something starts happening in my head. The first line, ‘I’m in a winter mood, dreaming of spring now’, instantly the piano started to form to me. That was a song that I came close to not sending the band. When I make demos, I’ll usually wait until I have five or six to send to everybody. I didn’t know if anyone was gonna like this. It’s too moody or it’s not very us. But it was pretty unanimous. Everybody liked that one. I knew this had to end the record. It took on a different life in the context of the whole album. Then on the bridge section, I knew it was going to be the lyrics from “Love From The Other Side’. It’s got to come back here. It’s the bookends, but I also love lyrically what it does, you know, ‘in another life, you were my babe’, going back to that kind of regret, which feels different in  ‘Love From The Other Side’ than it does here. When the whole song came together, it was the statement of the record.
Aside from the album, you have released a few more recent tracks that have opened you up to a whole new audience, most notably the collaboration with Taylor Swift on ‘Electric Touch’.
PETE: Taylor is the only artist that I’ve met or interacted with in recent times who creates exactly the art of who she is, but does it one such a mass level. So that’s breathtaking to watch from the sidelines. The way fans traded friendship bracelets, I don’t know what the beginning of it was, but you felt that everywhere. We felt that, I saw that in the crowd on our tour. I don’t know Taylor well, but I think she’s doing exactly what she wants and creating exactly the art that she wants to create. And going that, on such a level, is really awe-inspiring to watch. It makes you want to make the biggest, weirdest version of our thing and put that out there.
Then there was the cover of Billy Joel’s ‘We Didn’t Start The Fire’, which has had some big chart success for you. That must have taken you slightly by surprise.
PATRICK: It’s pretty unexpected. Pete and I were going back and forth about songs we should cover and that was an idea that I had. This is so silly but there was a song a bunch of years ago I had kind of written called ‘Dark Horse’ and then there was a Katy Perry song called ‘Dark Horse’ and I was like, ‘damn it’, you know, I missed the boat on that one. So I thought if we don’t do this cover, somebody else is gonna do it. Let’s just get in the studio and just do it. We spent way more time on those lyrics than you would think because we really wanted to get a specific feel. It was really fun and kind of loose, we just came together in Neal’s house and recorded it in a day.
PETE: There's irreverence to it. I thought the coolest thing was when Billy Joel got asked about it, and he was like, ‘I’m not updating it, that’s fine, go for it.’  I hope if somebody ever chose to update one of ours, we’d be like that. Let them do their thing, they’ll have that version. I thought that was so fucking cool.
It’s almost no secret that the sound you became most known for in the md-2000s is having something of a commercial revival right now But what is interesting is seeing how bands are building on that sound and changing it.
PATRICK: I love when anybody does anything that feels honest to them. Touring with Bring Me The Horizon, it was really cool seeing what’s natural to them. It makes sense. We changed our sound over time but we were always going to do that. It wasn’t a premeditated thing but for the four of us, it would have been impossible to maintain making the same kind of music forever. Whereas you’ll play with some other bands and they live that one sound. You meet up with them for dinner or something and they’re wearing the shirt of the band that sounds just like their band. You go to their house and they’re playing other bands that sound like them because they live in that thing. Whereas with the four of us and bands like Bring Me The Horizon, we change our sounds over time.  And there’s nothing wrong with either. The only thing that’s wrong is if it’s unnatural to you. If you’re AC/DC and all of a sudden power ballads are in and you’re like, ‘Okay, we’ve got to do a power ballad’, that’s when it sucks. But if you’re a thrash metal guy who also likes Celine Dion then yeah, do a power ballad. Emo as a word doesn’t mean anything anymore. But if people want to call it that, if the emo thing is back or having another life again, if that’s what’s natural to an artist, I think the world needs more earnest art. If that’s who you are, then do it.
PETE: It would be super egotistical to think that the wave that started with us and My Chemical Romance and Panic! At The Disco has just been circling and cycling back. I remember seeing Nikki Sixx at the airport and he was like, ‘Oh you’re doing a flaming bass? Mine came from a backpack.’ It keeps coming back but it looks different. Talking to Lil Uzi Vert and Juice WRLD when he was around, it’s so interesting, because it’s so much bigger than just emo or whatever. It’s this whole big pop music thing that’s spinning and churning, and then it moves on, and then it comes back with different aspects and some of the other stuff combined. When you’re a fan of music and art and film, you take different stuff, you add different ingredients, because that’s your taste. Seeing the bands that are up and coming to me, it’s so exciting, because the rules are just different, right? It’s really cool to see artists that lean into the weirdness and lean into a left turn when everyone’s telling you to make a right. That’s so refreshing.
PATRICK: It’s really important as an artist gets older to not put too much stock in your own influence. The moment right now that we’re in is bigger than emo and bigger than whatever was happening in 2005. There’s a great line in ‘Downton Abbey’ where someone was asking the Lord about owning this manor and he’s like ‘well, you don’t really own it, there have been hundreds of owners and you are the custodian of it for a brief time.’ That’s what pop music is like. You just have the ball for a minute and you’re gonna pass it on to somebody else.
We will soon see you in the UK for your arena tour. How do you reflect on your relationship with the fans over here?
PETE: I remember the first time we went to the UK, I wasn’t prepared for how culturally different it was. When we played Reading & Leeds and the summer festivals, it was so different, and so much deeper within the culture. It was a little bit of a shock. The first couple of times we played, I was like, ‘Oh, my God, are we gonna die?’ because the crowd was so crazy, and there was bottles. Then when we came back, we thought maybe this is a beast to be tamed. Finally, you realise it’s a trading of energy. That made the last couple of festivals we played so fucking awesome. When you realise that the fans over there are real fans of music It’s really awesome and pretty beautiful.
PATRICK: We’ve played the UK now more than a lot of regions of the states. Pretty early on, I just clicked with it. There were differences, cultural things and things that you didn’t expect. But it never felt that different or foreign to me, just a different flavour…
PETE: This is why me and Patrick work so well together (laughs).
PATRICK: Well, listen; I’m a rainy weather guy. There is just things that I get there. I don’t really drink anymore all that much. But I totally will have a beer in the UL, there’s something different about every aspect of it, about the ordering of it, about the flavour of it, everything, it’s like a different vibe. The UK audience seemed to click with us too. There have been plenty of times where we felt almost like a UK band than an American one. There have been years where you go there and almost get a more familial reaction than you would at home.
Rock Sound has always been a part of that for us. It was one of the first magazines to care about us and the first magazine to do real interviews. That’s the thing, you would do all these interviews and a lot of them would be like ‘so where did the band’s name come from?’ But Rock Sound took us seriously as artists, maybe before some of us did. That actually made us think about who we are and that was a really cool experience. I think in a lot of ways, we wouldn’t be the band we are without the UK, because I think it taught us a lot about what it is to be yourself.

2023 in review - recs & highlights
Happy New Year and thank you @sorrybutblog for the tag 🥂I wasn’t very active in 2023 tbh, after May I couldn’t find time or inspiration to read new things or write single recs so I focused on list requests instead. But I’m very proud of all the little things I’ve accomplished! They’ve brought me so much joy and I’m pleased with how they came about. I’m sharing below my personal highlights and would to see everyone else’s. Consider this an open tag and feel free to @ me!
✨this year I jumped right back into my anime & manga phase (I’ve loved it for as long as I’ve loved Drarry) and it’s been a thrill to discover and revisit some top notch BL stories. I did two reclists (part 1 and part 2) for fun without really expecting any interest but the feedback was so lovely I’m now planning a part 3!
✨ got so many special gifts! I was absolutely mindblown by @epitomereally’s lovely and creative LA, Who Am I To Love You? for my Wireless prompt; I got hot and bothered over this delicious nsfw art by @maesterchill; and fell deeper in love with Harry/Ron thanks to @writcraft’s stunning Can’t Start a Fire Without a Spark. I’m so lucky to have these wonderful and talented friends! thank you ❤️
✨ loved doing these sexy rec lists for V Day: heartbreak & rarepair romance
✨ as I said I haven’t read much this year, so imagine my shocked pikachu face when I saw that I did 8 fest rec lists this year! two are still incomplete (Career Fair and Erised) but I’ll get there
✨ it was such a blast to join @hprecfest and share 31 daily recs throughout December. not only I got my mojo back to rec some of my fave hidden gems, I also found many new incredible fics thanks to everyone who participated. I was especially happy to see a big amount of love for rare pairs!
✨ I also did two cute holiday-themed lists: Christmassy reads and NYE reads!
✨ finally, following tradition I just posted my end of the year lists: Drarry + Rare pair. a bit shorter than usual but done with just as much love!

You alluded there to the 20th anniversary of ‘Take This To Your Grave’. Obviously you have changed and developed as a band hugely since then. But is there anything you can point to about making that debut record that has remained as a part of your process since then?
Pete: We have a language, the band, and it’s definitely a language of cinema and film. That’s maintained through time. We have very disparate musical tastes and influences but I think film was a place we really aligned.
There was something that popped up a couple times throughout that record where you got these little inklings of who the band really was. We really explored that on ‘From Under The Cork Tree’.
So when we talk about what has remained the same…I didn’t want to be a singer, I didn’t know anything about singing. I wasn’t planning on that. I didn’t even plan to really be in this band for that long because Pete had a real band that really toured so I thought this was gonna be a side project. So there’s always been this element within the band where I don’t put too many expectations on things and then Pete has this really big ambition, creatively. There’s this great interplay between the two of us where I’m kind of oblivious, and I don’t know when I’m putting out a big idea and Pete has this amazing vision to find what goes where. There’s something really magical about that because I never could have done a band like this without it. We needed everybody, we needed all four of us. And I think that’s the thing that hasn’t changed. - the four of us just being ourselves and trying to figure things out. Listening back to ‘Folie’ or ‘Infinity On High’ or ‘American Beauty’, I’m always amazed at how much better they are then I remember. I listened to ‘MANIA’ the other day. I have a lot of misgivings about that record, a lot of things that I’m frustrated about.
But then there was also that weird aspect where the last time we had worked with him was kind of contentious. Interpersonally, the four of us were kind of fighting with each other…as much as we do anyway. We say that and the myth gets built bigger than it was. We were always pretty cool with each other. It’s just that the least cool was making ‘Folie’. So then getting into it again for this record, it was like no time had passed as people but the four of us got on better so we had more to bring to Neal.
Pete: It’s a little bit like when you return to your parents’ house for a holiday break when you’re in college.
It is sad and lonely but in some ways, it’s kind of freeing, because there’s other aspects of our world and my life that I love and that I want to keep shaping and changing.
That was a song that I came close to not sending to the band. Then on the bridge section, I knew it was going to be the lyrics from ‘Love For The Other Side’. It’s got to come back here. It’s the bookends, but I also love lyrically what it does, you know, ‘in another life, you were my babe’, going back to that kind of regret, which feels different in ‘Love For The Other Side’ than it does here. When the whole song came together, it was the statement of the record.
Aside from the album, you have released a few more recent tracks that have opened you up to a whole new audience, most notably the collaboration with Taylor Swift on ‘Electric Touch’.
Pete: Taylor is the only artist that I’ve met or interacted with in recent times who creates exactly the art of who she is, but does it on such a mass level. So that’s breathtaking to watch from the sidelines. The way fans traded friendship bracelets, I don’t know what the beginning of it was, but you felt that everywhere. We felt that, I saw that in the crowd on our tour. I don’t know Taylor well, but I think she’s doing exactly what she wants and creating exactly the art she wants to create. And doing that, on such a level, is really awe-inspiring to watch.
This is so silly but there was a song a bunch of years ago I had kind of written called ‘Dark Horse' and then there was a Katy Perry song called ‘Dark Horse’ and I was like, ‘damn it’, you know, I missed the boat on that one.
Pete: There’s irreverence to it. I thought the coolest thing was when Billy Joel got asked about it, and he was like, ‘I’m not updating it, that’s fine, go for it.’ I hope if somebody ever chooses to update one of ours, we’d be like that. Let them do their thing, they'll have that version. I thought that was so fucking cool.
It’s also no secret that the sound you became most known for in the mid-2000s is having something of a commercial revival right now. But what is interesting is seeing how bands are building on that sound and changing it.
Whereas you’ll play with some other hands and they live that one sound. You meet up with them for dinner or something and they’re wearing the shirt of the band that sounds just like their band. You go to their house and they’re playing other bands that sound like them because they live in that thing. Whereas with the four of us and bands like Bring Me The Horizon, we change our sounds over time. And there’s nothing wrong with that either.
Pete: It would be super egotistical to think that the wave started with us and My Chemical Romance and Panic! At The Disco has just been circling and cycling back. I remember seeing Nikki Sixx at the airport and he was like, ‘Oh, you’re doing a flaming bass? Mine came from a backpack.’ It keeps coming back but it looks different. Talking to Lil Uzi Vert and Juice WRLD when he was around, it’s so interesting, because it’s so much bigger than just emo or whatever. It’s this whole big pop music thing that’s spinning and churning, and then it moves on., and then it comes back with different aspects and some of the other stuff combined.
There’s a great line in ‘Downton Abbey’ where someone was asking the Lord about owning this manor and he’s like, ‘well, you don’t really own it, there have been hundreds of owners and you are the custodian of it for a brief time.’ That’s what pop music is like.
The first couple of times we played, I was like, ‘Oh my God, are we gonna die?” because the crowd was so crazy, and there was bottles. Then when we came back, we thought maybe this is a beast to be tamed. Finally, you realize it’s a trading of energy. That made the last couple of festivals we played so fucking awesome. When you really realize that the fans over there are real fans of music. It’s really awesome and pretty beautiful.
Patrick: We’ve played the UK now more than a lot of regions of the states. Pretty early on, I just clicked with it. There were differences, cultural things and things that you didn’t expect. But it never felt that different or foreign to me, just a different flavor…
Pete: This is why me and Patrick work so well together (laughs).
Patrick: Well, listen; I’m a rainy weather guy. There is just things that I get there. I don’t really drink anymore all that much. But I totally will have a beer in the UK, there’s something different about every aspect of it, about the ordering of it, about the flavor of it, everything, it’s like a different vibe. The UK Audience seemed to click with us too. There have been plenty of times where we felt almost more like a UK band than an American one. There have been years where you go there and almost get a more familial reaction than you would at home.
Rock Sound has always been a part of that for us. It was one of the first magazines to care about us and the first magazine to do real interviews. That’s the thing, you would do all these interviews and a lot of them would be like ‘so where did the band’s name come from?” But Rock Sound took us seriously as artists, maybe before some of us did. That actually made us think about who we are and that was a really cool experience. I think in a lot of ways, we wouldn’t be the band we are without the UK, because I think it taught us a lot about what it is to be yourself.
Fall Out Boy’s ‘So Much (For) Stardust’ is out now via Fueled By Ramen.

Day 17 - Sharpuary (Hair)
Unfortunately, this is the last prompt I have written! If I have time I will definitely revisit this and try to add some more, but I received the keys to my first house last week so all of my free time has been taken up with that. I've had so much fun doing Sharpuary! Thank you @ynyseira❤️❤️
Tumblr media
TW - Mild smut? Like one sentence... (MC aged up to 19)
Aesop Sharp was brewing a large batch of potions for the next day's classes, whilst singing loudly to himself. His long brown hair was tied back off his face and he was dressed much more casually than usual, having long discarded his jacket and waistcoat, leaving him in just his white shirt. His long sleeves were rolled up, exposing his muscular arms that were covered in tattoos.
“Professor Sharp?”
Aesop seized up, clearing his throat in embarrassment from being caught singing. He looked up from the cauldron in front of him to see you standing in his doorway. He quickly rolled his sleeves down to cover his tattoos.
“Yes, Miss (L/N)?” He replied, trying to ignore his embarrassment.
“You said to come by for my extra lessons” you continued. “Did you forget?”
Sharp stroked a few stray hairs out of his face. “Yes, I may have-”
“Sir the cauldron!” You shouted, interrupting him. Sharp quickly turned his attention to the bubbling cauldron that was boiling over. He immediately amended the temperature and gave it a quick stir before leaning back against the workstation to look at you.
“Close one,” he smirked. “Why don’t you give me a hand for a change?”
A wide smile forms on your face as you remove your bag and coat to hang up near the entrance, before you promptly join him behind the workstation.
“I’m brewing some simple Wiggenweld potions to show the first years,” he began.”I trust you remember how to brew them.”
“Of course, Professor!” You begin describing every step of the brewing process back to him.
“Perfect,” he replied with an impressed look of pride that you’d only ever seen from him a handful of times. You’d be lying if you said it didn’t fill your body with warmth. “Grab a cauldron and you can do my second batch for the hospital wing.”
“Please and thank you,” you remind him playfully as you grab a cauldron off the side. The potions professor shot you a stern look but you simply smiled back at him, knowing his intimidating glares stopped affecting you long ago.
You prepare the ingredients in front of you and start meticulously adding them to the caldron, one by one, as the professor works beside you.
“Forgetting something?” Professor Sharp asks whilst you’re deep into the initial steps.
“I’ve only just started,” You replied, blowing your hair out your face whilst your hands remained full.
“I’m on about your hair,” he corrected you. “Get it tied up, you might be making a first-year potion but you certainly aren’t a first-year anymore.”
You glared at him with full hands, trying to balance the first few steps of the potion brew. “I don’t have a hair tie… or a free hand for that matter.”
He removes his cauldron from the heat after finishing his brew as you continue stirring your cauldron slowly whilst adding the final ingredients with your other hand. In the corner of your eye you notice him removing his hair tie, shaking his hair loose as if he was straight out of a shampoo commercial.
He approaches you from behind and gently runs his fingers through your hair, pulling it back into a low ponytail. Your legs instantly turn to jelly as your crush on the man grows deeper as his fingertips glide against your neck.
“...Sir,” you stuttered as your thoughts turned dark, imagining him grabbing your hair in a tight fist as he pulled your head up and down along his hard shaft.
He twists the hair tie around your hair, pulling it tight against your scalp and lingers behind you for a moment too long. You feel his breath against your neck as his hands hover over your shoulders.
The cauldron begins fizzing in front of you after your concentration completely falters. Professor Sharp instinctively places his hand on your left hip to lean over your right shoulder and amend the brew. You were completely engulfed in his musky scent, surrounded by his warmth as his chest pressed into your back and side.
“That was close,” he chuckled, leaving his hand to linger on your hip.
You looked up at his face which was remarkably close to yours and found yourself lost in his deep brown eyes which stared back at you. His small rosy lips were distorted into a rare smile, showing the smallest bit of his crooked teeth. You couldn’t pull your eyes away from his lips and knew you were dangerously close to the point of no return.
“Do we need to revisit this brew Miss (L/N)?” He jested softly, appearing almost nervous.
Your eyes were still glued to his lips, his hand was still on your hip. It had to mean something.
Without much thought, you raised your hand making him flinch slightly, but as you placed it on his cheek to cup his face, he let out a tense breath allowing himself to relax. Your thumb stroked his rough stubble, tracing the end of his twisted scar, as he closed his eyes and leant into your hand.
You took a careful step towards him, leaning on your tiptoes to bring your face into his. With his eyes still closed, you leant in, placing the softest kiss on his unsuspecting lips.
You were instantly met with fire, but unfortunately not the one you fantasised about.
Professor Sharp took a quick step back creating an unfriendly distance between you. His eyes were fueled with an anger you had never witnessed before.
“Out!” He bellowed.
You couldn’t move, you stood frozen to the spot,  mouth agape, trembling in fear as tears pooled in your eyes.
“Now!” He continued, shouting louder than he ever had before.
You scrambled to gather your belongings, almost falling out of the door in fear. You thought his touch had meant something, but he is your Professor. How could you have ever suspected this would go differently?

OCTOBER PROMPTS 🎃 — 8. Hector
Tumblr media
A/N: the way I always had something in the drafts to write for my beloved man like back during the summer time. The universe had other plans and what better time than to revisit this episode on Halloween! I think this is my first time ever writing on the day of this superior season?! Happy Halloween people 🧡 🪄
WARNINGS: language + hints of sexual tension 😅
PROMPT is from HERE + I’m using: “I love you, I swear I do but we’re not wearing matching costumes.”
₊˚ ✧ ♱‧₊˚. ₊˚ ✧ ♱‧₊˚. ₊˚ ✧ ♱‧₊˚. ₊˚ ✧ ♱‧₊˚. ₊˚ ✧ ♱‧₊˚. ₊˚
[~October. 2000’s~]
Oh the wonders of being a big time celebrity during the month of Halloween. That’s right, a whole entire month! Which felt like so because you were constantly in the limelight with people not only dissecting your love life but also your roles which consisted of either being the lead scream queen in a thriller series, supporting actress in horror movies, and also being the star drummer (on some Sheila E shit!) and backup singer of a Alt-Pop girl band on the side.
So yes, you stayed busy and were worth talking about.
“Whatever you decide to be this year has to be big. I mean Destiny’s child, Britney Spears, Zac and Vanessa, and Halle Berry are all gonna be here at your party this year.” Your manager/publicist ranted as she paced the floor in your open concept closet.
You’re lounging on your studded chaise lounge chair, texting away on your blackberry while chewing on some gum, half listening, “Halle’s my god-mom, of course she will be here to support but who else is on this list exactly?”
“I invited pretty much everyone, the hottest stars even those who may or may be in your age range. It doesn’t matter! As long as you get good pics that brings fresh press.” Natania voiced as she began flipping through a notepad.
You hum knowing the deal, considering you’ve been in the limelight since you were fourteen so this was not anything entirely new. “I’ve got the perfect outfit for Hector and I.”
Natania glances up from writing, “funny you mention him after I say press.”
“Him has a name and who also happens to be my boyfriend?”
“Don’t remind me,” Natania mutters, “and just to think you could still be with Taylor Lautner right now. His stats are only climbing after ‘Breaking Dawn Part I,’ dropped and I can only imagine how much more attention he’s gonna get.”
Shrugging your shoulders you say, “I’ve got more than enough attention with and without a guy by my side. It was fun while it lasted but as soon as he booked the role for twilight, the distance just grew. It was all only a matter of time.”
At sixteen and seventeen years old you got into a relationship, naturally with who everyone may know as Jacob Black but he was just Taylor to you. You met way back in a martial arts class that your uncle actually taught but you didn’t end up sticking with it thanks to a tv series you booked. You met again not long after at a audition for “Sharkboy and LavaGirl.”
“Well the both of you could have at least faked it for a little!” Natania almost stomped her feet before sighing, “I mean Taylor still talks highly about you although you decided to pick a old paparazzi instead as your new fling.”
“I wouldn’t expect him to say anything less,” you blinked, “wasn’t a bad break up anyway and I don’t pay you to make judgements on who I date. I pay for you to manage my career, not my personal life, sooo mind yours.”
Natania rolled her eyes beneath her glasses, “whatever, you’re right. I’m just saying you could have done better. There’s just something off about him—Hector and not the whole follow people like you around for cash either.”
“Nat!” You hissed, “shut up already, hector’s coming over, he’s gonna be at that party with me and that’s that. When’s the stylist coming over?”
Natania puts on a forced smile and glances at the watch on her wrist, “in about a hour.”
“Great! Hector says he’ll be here in fifteen so that gives us a little down time. You can let yourself out whenever you’re ready.” You state laying back to rest your eyes.
You’ve been up since six thirty this morning doing a extreme workout routine you didn’t like with a trainer who took it too seriously. You were more of a cardio person than juggling ropes, jumping and squatting, and flipping over tires.
Soon the door bell rings and you pry one eye open to see the monitor by the door glowing, making you aware who it could be. Groaning you took your time getting closer to the screen, seeing no one there. Shrugging to yourself, you plopped down on the lounge just as your closet door budged open revealing your stylist and no other than your boyfriend, Hector.
Lounging on your elbows you smile and wave at the two.
“No, please. Don’t get up, I got it.” Your stylist wheeled in a rack while you laughed at the usual sarcasm.
“Hey, baby.” You craned your neck to meet Hector’s lips as he leaned over you in greeting before sitting next to you, “what happened to fifteen minutes?”
Hector laughs, rubbing at the back of his neck, knowing that he was late, “traffic? Even on my bike and Hunger…”
You hum at this.
“Just burgers.” Hector whispers as you shrug your shoulders.
You knew what it was like, actually dating someone in the supernatural world. It could always go one or two ways and of course there were heavy rumors surrounding Hector since he was there at the time of Mazey Day’s death. He should have been dead—especially with the amount of damage done to his body, you knew what he and Bo were up to and the pictures Bo showed you was not something you would forget.
However Hector was meant to live and see it through…and he did with the help of your family.
They got to him first.
That’s right, a long history of, “werewolf or wolf training,” depending on which form. You had more experience with simply wolfs while the higher skilled like your parents and siblings dealt with the werewolf’s. Due to your involvement with the spotlight you didn’t have much time for…family activities but you weren’t completely clueless.
If you were able to get to Mazey Day in time, perhaps things could have been different. No one really knew and some still didnt accept what it was.
Werewolves were fucking real and you so happened to be dating one.
“Soooo,” you drag pushing yourself up once more to face Hector with a tired smile, “I’ve got an idea of what we should be for Halloween.”
“Aw but you didn’t see what Freddie brought yet.”
“Oh it’s in there alright,” you push off the chair to head over to Freddie who has measuring tape draped over his shoulders.
You do the honors of taking the protective cover off the clothes and run your fingers over the various fabrics, “we have DoubleDare contestants from the 90s, or you can be Cupid and I’ll be a large fuzzy heart, or my personal fav: little red riding hood and her werewolf of a grandmother.”
Hector blinks after briefly studying the costumes and says, “I love you, I swear I do but we’re not wearing matching costumes.”
“Uh oh,” Freddie mutters while you frown at the curly haired man.
“And why the hell not? The last option is the best one.”
“I get that one,” Hector replies with a knowing look in his dark eyes, “but don’t you think it’s a little…corny?”
“We’re supposed to be corny! You’re my boyfriend and I’m your girl.” Digging your fists into your hips and peer at Hector who snorts.
“Yeah but—
“At least try it on! I mean if we’re gonna be at my party together shouldn’t we at least match?”
Hector lightly grips your wrist to pull you from Freddie’s ear shot, “it’s gonna be a full moon that night.”
“Even better.”
“For who? Not me.”
“It’s been a year already,” you slip your hand down to squeeze his, “you’re gonna be fine.”
“That’s not what your mom believes.” Hector’s shoulders almost slump, which irritates you, the fact that your mother was always getting into his head was not something foreign to you but when she started to do it to people you cared about, that’s when it became a problem.
“Newsflash, she doesn’t know everything like she claims.”
“I mean I should listen to her since…”
“Since she’s more skilled than me? Ah alright well I get it. Look, I’m not gonna peer pressure you. I just know I wouldn’t have you here if I didn’t think you could handle it. We’d take all the proper precautions a few days before just like I planned but if you really don’t feel comfortable…we’ll just make sure to take the pictures in advance and we’ll go from there.”
Hector studies you then. He knew that it was hard to be around each other sometimes whenever the moon shifted. He was thankful he got another chance at life…sure but life just become a whole lot more difficult now with this new lifestyle and being legit involved with someone in the public eye. No doubt he’s thought about it before but never pictured it happening and Bo also told him it was a bad idea after figuring out that he basically resurrected and could transform into a hairy ass creature!
You lived one way and he lived another, there were contrasts to you just like the sun and the moon, the pair of you worked taking turns to let the other breathe separately. Space was efficient when it came to your relationship but when you were together? That opened up a whole new feeling. A scary one. He wasn’t sure if this relationship would be long term but he had the chance to see you for what you are beyond the lights and that was a treat in itself.
He exhales, lifting a hand to cup the side of your face, “…let’s try these costumes on then.”
And you squeal, hopping into his arms and he holds onto you as you lock your legs around his hips, his beaming smile meeting yours as you peck all along his handsome face.
“We look foolish,” Hector comments as he readjusts the gingham hat on top of his head while you stand side by side in a full length mirror.
You laugh as you wrap your arms around the curly haired man in the floral green nightgown, “correction: we look fine as hell.”
“Fine enough to where I don’t need to spend two hours sitting in a chair having ass cramps and getting wolf prosthetics on?” Hector slips on his circular glasses and peeks over them at your reflection.
Red was certainly your color.
You snort, “you could always let the moon do it’s thing.”
“That’s not even funny.”
Pressing your chin against the back of his shoulder you say, “Wanna give me a little snarl or something?”
Hector sends you a pointed look as you trail one hand up to twist one of his damp curls, “Oh Granny, what pretty curls you have.”
“All the better for you to tug my dear,” Hector begins to play along.
A smirk makes its way onto your red painted lips, “Oh granny, what a beautiful face you have.”
“All the better for you to,” Hector starts before quickly twisting his body to yank you tight against his body, “sit on.”
You see the specs of ember swirling in Hector’s ink eyes now and you know you were pushing it as the length of his nails began to poke at the fabric of your red hood.
He then places a open mouthed kiss to your beating throat, “you didn’t say anything about my teeth.”
Standing up some with your hands locked around his neck now, you lean just a bit closer so that your forehead presses against Hector’s; you reply just as some knocks sounded at your closet door, “Now that’s satire.”
Hector let’s out a small laugh as you untangle yourself from his grasp to get the door, making a show of pointing the makeup artists in his direction only.
With your confidence in him and against the full moon, Hector can’t help but to shrug his shoulders and take a seat peeking at the face he got used to over the years. Somehow even this skin felt different and not just the scars embedded.
He just hoped you were right but knew he wouldn’t hear the end of it.
Well…here’s to a new change of course for Halloween! That might actually be terrifying but as long as he had you on his team, his doubts and speculations from outsiders—which he used to be—didn’t seem to matter as much anymore.

(Flufftober Day 13)
Languishing in the doldrums of his creativity, Luis sank warily into his mind. With trembling hands, he snatched the paper from his desk. His eyes wandered into the luminous gleam of his computer screen, trying to find an exact reason for him to jolt his motivation.
Desperately, he's trying to observe other crafting bloggers, revisiting them to read their content. But he found nothing to match his desire to make a cute dreamcatcher.
An aura of defeat hung heavily on his mind. He sank into his chair, trying to hush the boredom. Lost in the reverie, his eyes grazed at you, and he cherished an endeared view where you, magically, were having a small chit-chat with a fellow researcher in the Umbrella Laboratory. The spectral glow from the laboratory lights cascaded upon your presence, weaving a tranquil evening.
You and Luis were a team in the upcoming project ordained by Dr. Wesker, and as the days progressed, fate threw you into Luis' life, and you two are getting closer to each other.
He found strong happiness whenever he shared his days with you. Some are just random stories, but sometimes he shares his private life, his favorite music, coffee, and more about Leon. From that day on, a connection between you and him was tied up strongly by red strings from his pinkie finger to yours.
However, for some reason, your happy life is starting to turn upside down, falling into a shadow of despair. An amalgamation of nightmares and pain is born in your life due to a deadline from Dr. Wesker.
A dreamcatcher.
At first, Luis is making fun of this, saying that you would be fine by Dr. Wesker's deadline. But he was seized by pain after he recognized you getting unmotivated at work.
A silly idea slipped into his cubicle mind. Remembering that he had this item when he was a little innocent kid.
And he thinks of making one.
It was like a random idea that slipped his mind. Perhaps it would help you spark your spirit. After all, you were Luis' partner in this project. He couldn't bear to let you be sad about Dr. Wesker's exacting methods.
Luis once again found himself in a cubicle full of butterflies. His eyes are relentlessly between the computer screen and an unfinished dreamcatcher. A metal wooden hoop, a roll of ebony ribbon, dainty feathers, glue, and chestnut gemstones—all of this was based on Leon's recommendations.
Luis' desk is so messy and chaotic with this stuff; he's sure that Dr. Wesker's fury will lead Luis into trouble. Dr. Wesker might even unleash a torrent of sulfur dioxide on Luis' face.
In that suspended moment, your time stretches into infinity as you see Luis drowning in his very mind. You saw him snatching a piece of wood and getting angry all of a sudden.
With a graceful move, you come close to him and ask. "Dr. Serra?"
Your voice emanates from the room, creating an electrifying tension between you and Luis.
He widened his eyes after realizing that you were near him.
"Eh, Dr.—good evening." He jolted from the sensation. A panic filled him from head to toe. A cold sweat dripped down his nape.
"Are you okay, Dr. Serra?"
Panic. He nervously scratches his neck and has a weird eagerness to run from the scene.
"I'm trying to make a dreamcatcher." He mused, gazing at the table. "I think it would help you, Dr.—since you mentioned nightmares, I wanted to offer you a little help."
"Oh!" A lukewarm smile curls your lips. With a gentle sigh, you touch an unfinished dreamcatcher. From your perspective, the dreamcatcher wasn't as bad as it might have seemed; the form was still recognizable.
"Dr. Serra. Thank you for your concern. I think I made you feel bad about my recent condition. But don't worry about me; I'm okay for now."
"Um, Dr.—"
A joyous atmosphere surrounds you as you reach Luis' shoulder and whisper calmly.
"I purchased a new oven last week. So... maybe I could invite you to my apartment to eat cake with me? If you're free, I'd gladly take that dreamcatcher. And who knows, I might finally have a peaceful sleep, dreaming of you."

Be true to yourself. Write what you wish to read. Don't change or get too lost looking for notes, I think if you love what you write people will automatically be drawn to it sooner or later. Your effort and passion will shine through.
Consistency is key, don't strive for perfection immediately. Your first draft will always look like a hot mess, keep at it and it will improve.
Write down your daydreams lol.

It’s the morning after a wild New Year’s Eve party and there are quite a few regrets. . . .writer's choice for characters! ^_^
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Thanks for your one-and-a-bit-years’ long patience on this 😩 I’m so excited to finally, FINALLY share this with you!!
(Prompt from this post. Thanks @noworneverphantom and @1mnobodywhoareyou for beta-ing)
AND NOW, THE FIC (M rating, 2.1k words):
Anyone who thinks having your ears assaulted with the incessant blaring of a dawn break alarm is a great way to start the day is a damn liar.
He slaps his hand over the bedside table blindly until he finally hits the offending object. The noise stops. He flops over onto his stomach.
It’s 7am, January 1st. Fantastic information for someone who actually cares. Not him, though.
His body, however, does. Five hours is not nearly enough to… Well, five hours is not enough. Celebratory drinks on New Year’s Eve can be fun! He just forgets about the part where he has to wake up with the consequences.
He yawns, jaw aching with the stretch, and ribs protesting with the expansion of his breath. Something twitches under his palm. It kinda tickles. He sniffs.
A moment passes. There’s another twitch, then a quiet squeak.
Oh, Reggie thinks. He should probably move in case it’s a rat or something. But lifting his arm suddenly feels like lifting a boulder that’s been superglued to the ground. He sighs. It would be so easy to give up right now.
So he does.
It’s not a big deal. He could probably handle having a little rat friend. Besides, rats are cute. And if his parents didn’t let him have a hamster back in high school—well, now he can have–
An annoyed grumble. Reggie screws up his face. That’s a loud fucking rat, probably one that won’t be much fun to take care of, actually.
So Reggie, still half-asleep and hungover to all hell, makes a decision that any other responsible adult in his situation would make:
He’s going to grab the little guy.
Reggie’s fingers slowly draw in. His eyebrows furrow. It’s something smooth, and a little more triangular than the rat-shape he was expecting. Not that he’s one to body shame.
Experimentally, he squishes it.
There’s a splutter, then–
“Ow!” Reggie whines when his hand gets slapped away.
“Dude, what the hell?”
Reggie’s eyes snap open, sunlight stinging before he can smack a hand over them. “What the hell?” he parrots.
“Lemme breathe.”
“Okay,” Reggie croaks, a little hysterically. “Yeah, sure. W-what are you doing in my bed, though?”
From the other side, Luke snorts. “S’my bed, dude.”
No, it’s not, Reggie wants to say. Because that would be stupid. Being in Luke’s bed would be stupid. Reggie knows that, and Luke has to know that. They’re in a band together! A band where they’d all agreed to never shoot their shot within the group.
More specifically, Reggie had promised both Julie and Alex separately that he won’t get caught up in his long-standing crush on Luke, and that he definitely won’t end up in Luke’s bed. It’s too risky.
So this can’t be Luke’s bed, Reggie thinks, because then we would be in big trouble.
There’s some shuffling beside him, followed by a deep sigh. Reggie peeks through the gap between his fingers. Luke’s eyes are closed, the crease of his brow just smoothing out. Reggie watches Luke’s mouth soften, lips parting slightly, his breaths returning to slow waves. He looks so peaceful.
Just as the thought occurs, Reggie huffs out a small laugh. “Thought you were a rat,” he murmurs.
Luke doesn’t reply. Reggie shuts his eyes again.
So maybe he’s thought about this before, waking up next to Luke all soft and rumpled. Maybe it’s a daydream he likes to revisit regularly. So what? Sue him. It’s not like he’d say no given the chance.
Besides, he seems to recall only saying that he won’t end up in Luke’s bed, so… yeah. He just has to verify that he’s in his own bed, and they’ll be fine. Probably.
Reggie rolls over gingerly, cracking open an eyelid to squint through the bright morning haze. It’s hard to tell whose room it is at a glance when the layouts are so similar:
There’s a wooden desk shoved into a corner at the other end of the room, the chair pulled out to accommodate the mountain of clothes dumped on it; an acoustic guitar sits beside the tallboy, occupying the only section of the floor that’s ever seen the light of day. Speaking of light, why is it so fucking bright?
Reggie props himself up with one elbow, then braves a look at the source of light.
Of course, he groans. The blue curtains hanging over the window are, for some godforsaken reason, open—pushed to the sides, allowing the morning sun to flood the room.
Sure! Reggie thinks. That’s not even the worst part about it, so why not? The only thing that could possibly be worse than this is if Julie and Alex were here pointing at the curtains themselves; because the curtains in Reggie's room are red.
“Fuck,” Reggie moans, letting his eyes fall shut.
If there’s one thing Luke’s good at, it’s persuading Reggie to do things. Stupid things that will get them into stupid trouble.
Maybe they could say it was just a sleepover? Nothing had to have happened between them. Just a couple of bros sharing a bed. It’s winter, it’s cold. Saving on heating bills. Something like that. That sounds reasonable enough, yeah?
He looks back at Luke, and yeah, okay. That’s great, actually—Luke’s not wearing a shirt. That’s… fine. Luke’s fine. Like, really fine.
Getting off track. It’s fine! They’ve all seen Luke waltzing around without a shirt before. Hell, even if he was wearing one, half the material would be gone along with the sleeves. So the story could still pass. This is nothing new.
What is new, to Reggie’s horror, is the massive purple bruise blooming on the side of Luke’s neck. Reggie does not squeak. How did he miss that? It’s huge!
Don’t panic, Reggie tells himself, panicking. There could be any number of reasons why there’s a hickey the size of a golf ball on Luke’s neck. Probably just as many as for why they’ve woken up in the same bed.
Reggie can think of exactly one.
Alex is gonna be so mad. Julie is gonna be so mad.
He swallows. It’s fine, he tells himself, like it’ll be real if he keeps saying it. Maybe this could be salvageable somehow. If they’re sticking with the sleepover thing (which he’ll talk to Luke about… probably), then he should check that they’re wearing clothes. That would make it more plausible. Hopefully.
The back of his neck prickles with sweat, and he suddenly wishes the thought never occurred to him. Now he can’t stop thinking about Luke laying beside him, naked. He can’t stop thinking about Luke seeing him naked. Reggie bites his lip. This is a bad idea. Maybe he can just roll over and go back to sleep and he’ll wake up from this dream.
Except, Reggie has never been one to deny his curiosity, even if it does trap the rat, or however the saying goes. He inhales sharply.
Careful not to disturb Luke, Reggie slowly lifts up the edge of the covers. He takes in a quiet breath and, before he can psyche himself out, leans down to take a peek.
He slaps a hand over his mouth.
We’re gonna die, Reggie thinks, heart pounding in his chest. Alex and Julie are gonna kill us, and we’re gonna die.
“Luke,” Reggie says, nudging him with the back of his hand. “Luke. Luke.”
“What?”
Reggie bites his lip. He has to be smart about this. Although he doesn’t know how smart he can be with this headache swooping back in. “Do you, uh, usually sleep naked?”
Luke snorts. Reggie’s face heats up. “Yeah,” Luke says.
Reggie’s pulse quickens. “So this is normal?”
“Yeah,” Luke says again, slower this time, an unreadable look on his face.
“In– in the middle of winter?”
“What are you, my mom?”
Reggie squeaks. “I-I just mean, like– what if– what if someone else is in your bed?”
Luke blinks. His lips curl up into a smirk.
“Well,” he drawls, propping himself up on an elbow. “Seems like you already know the answer to that.”
“I-I mean–” Reggie stammers, cheeks growing hot. “You could’ve at least– put some pants on, or, or… um…” he trails off, watching Luke’s eyes rake down his chest and slowly drag them back up again. When their eyes meet, Luke slips his tongue out to wet his lips. Reggie’s skin prickles.
“Now, why would I want to do that if the clothes are just gonna come right off again?”
Reggie has never claimed to have a strong resolve. They don’t make it out of bed for a while.
———
“What the hell is that?” Alex demands.
Act casual. Be natural.
”Yeah, Reg,” Luke smirks. Reggie’s blood runs cold. “What the hell did you do to me?”
Alex rounds on him. “You did this?”
“Did what?” comes Julie’s voice, and Reggie instinctively scans the studio for cover. Julie stops in the doorway, staring at Luke. “What the hell is that?” she asks, tone measured.
“That’s what I said,” mutters Alex.
Reggie glances at Luke, who’s still proudly parading the massive hickey on his neck like it won’t get them murdered. Reggie resists the urge to put his face in his hands and scream.
Julie looks between Luke’s smug expression and Reggie’s guilty-puppy eyes, and Reggie can pinpoint the exact moment it clicks.
“Oh my god, what did we say about hooking up within the band?!”
“Felt fucking good, though,” Luke says with a sly smile. “Reggie’s mouth–”
“Absolutely not,” Julie cuts in, holding up a hand. “I never, in a billion years, want to hear about what happened between you and Reggie’s mouth. Gross.”
“Yeah,” Alex says, raising a pocketed hand. “Me too.”
Reggie’s face grows hot. Hell could open up a trap door to a thousand spikes underneath him right now and it would suck less.
“I’m gonna need a moment,” Julie announces. “You two–” she points between Luke and Reggie “–behave. I’ll be back.”
Reggie hangs his head, shame creeping up the back of his neck. He hates disappointing people, least of all Julie Molina. Now the fate of his spot in the band, and probably his friendship with Julie, is doomed.
He hazards a glimpse at Luke. He actually looks sorry now that Julie’s out of sight.
Alex sighs and turns to them, lips pressed into a thin line.
“Alright, Alex, go ahead,” Luke grumbles. “We know you’ve got something to say.”
Alex watches them carefully for a beat before opening his mouth. “Okay, I don’t wanna say I told you so–”
“Yes, you do,” Reggie mumbles.
“Yes, I do,” Alex concedes, shutting his eyes for a second. “But I won’t, because I know you know you messed up. Okay, we all agreed this wouldn’t happen. I’ve kept up my end of the deal. Julie’s kept hers…” He trails off, shrugging. He doesn’t need to say it, but Reggie can practically hear it. Why was it so hard for you to do the same?
Reggie looks at Luke, then back to Alex before dropping his gaze. He’s just about to open his mouth to apologise when the door creaks open.
“Okay,” Julie breathes, carefully closing the door behind her and stepping into the space. “Now that I’m over the initial shock of…” She gestures vaguely at Luke and clears her throat. “I’ve given it some thought, and I’ve decided…” She looks between Luke and Reggie, biting her lip nervously. “We can make an exception here,” she says finally.
“Wait, seriously?” Luke and Alex say in unison. They grimace at each other.
Julie stares. “Okay… anyway,” she says. “Yes, I am serious. Just as long as the two of you—Luke and Reggie—can keep it professional when we’re together as a band.”
“Yeah,” Alex agrees. “We don’t want personal stuff to get in the way of how we work, right?”
Reggie could almost cry with relief, wrapping his arms around Julie in a tight hug with an earnest “Thank you!” before releasing her so Luke can do the same.
With the air cleared, they disperse to set up for the day. Luke bumps his hip against Reggie and throws him a wink. Reggie blushes despite himself.
“Oh, and one more thing,” Julie pipes up. “In case it wasn’t clear enough: no hooking up on band time. Got it?”
Reggie straightens up and salutes her. “Yes, ma’am!”
He hears Luke laugh next to him. “You got it, boss,” he says.
Julie rolls her eyes fondly, and returns to setting up her keyboard stand.
Reggie feels a tap on his shoulder. He turns around, and Luke presses a quick kiss to his lips. It happens so swiftly that Reggie is left stunned; he stares wide-eyed after Luke, who’s already making his way toward his mic.
Somewhere behind him, Reggie hears Alex mutter, “Why do I have to be here?”

Hey, Lexie! Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💚
Oh wow, thanks!
Um
This is really hard, I love so many of my pieces!
I think my current top five would have to be these ones though…
The Void Yawns Softly, written for last year’s Invisobang. Space horror. Basically Danny is an astronaut who has to go and save a crew from certain doom. It’s currently one of my most popular pieces.
The Way of all Flesh was my first Bang project. It’s a traditional ghost story with the Danny Phantom twist and a small-town gothic vibe. I really loved writing it and still revisit it from time to time, just for fun.
Shift was a Phic Phight prompt that got out of hand in the best way possible. Written in only three weeks or so, it’s a multi chapter found family with the GiW as the good guys. Shift is my most popular fic by far, and just an all around feel-good experience, despite the angst interspersed between the fluff.
Reveal fics have always been my bread and butter in this fandom, and Mortality Salience is one of my better oneshots. Phantom and Valerie are trapped and helpless, and time is running out. I like to reread this one often.
Okay, so maybe this is cheating because it’s my most recent completed piece and I’m always more partial to newer works of my own, but Timekept is such delicious body horror! Written for Marsalias’ Phic Phight prompt about Danny’s insides turning to Clockwork, this was a joy to create and I think it’ll remain my favourite long after the new shiny feeling has faded.
Thanks so much for the prompt, and sorry for the formatting. I’m on mobile so I honestly don’t know how the links are going to work!

october x the roundup
...and just like that, the october x 500 prompts are done!
this gif pretty much sums me up during this last week lol...
Tumblr media
I want to first extend a MASSIVE thank you to both @gnpwdrnwhiskey and @rhoorl 💕 for indulging me in my madness and being listening ears to my random ideas, and helping plot out some of this month's prompts - without either of you I don't think this would have been half as fun!
also a HUGE thank you to every last one of you who reblogged, left comments and offered words of encouragement - it really meant a lot and I will be going back to revisit each prompt and reply to those comments I missed.
Oscar speech cut off music starts to play...
it's been a real fun challenge and reaffirmed that I write for me first and if anyone else enjoys it, then it adds to the fun of it all. It's also got me itching to get back to my wip's and Frankie x Mav will be hopefully gracing your feeds soon enough!
so, anywhoo... some stats if you're interested, because I'm a massive nerd and totally made a spreadsheet for tracking these prompts 😝

Announcing the Shuyuka Week Prompts for 2023!!!
Tumblr media
We can't wait for you all to join us Oct. 22nd - Oct 28th for a whole week of Shuyuka goodness!
Tumblr media
Thank you to Chininiris for providing the graphics again this year and also to 84xl for continuing to allow us to use the ShuYuka art piece in the prompts! Please consider giving these talented folks a follow!
Lastly we'll have a breakdown of the prompts in the readmore below!
Tumblr media
This one is rather self explanatory, but your work should ultimately revolve around their first date, the lead up to their first kiss after multiple dates, or even confessions! 👀
Tumblr media
You can take this one in an angsty direction following March 5th, or maybe a what if? Possibly, years after having their Memories form/told through time, as long as the core theme of MoY is present your submission will be counted! So many possibilities!
Tumblr media
Rooftops can be a location for a date or even a place where these two can find solace and relax, maybe even contemplate feelings? As for the P3P portion, it doesn't have to follow the exact ending, you can be as creative as you'd like to be with it!
Tumblr media
This is your chance to revisit the themes from last 3 years of ShuYuka Week! Have fun from the many options available! An original mod (Lia) made the first graphic and Chininiris made the 2021-2022 graphics in this bunch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Want to celebrate Yukari's birthday on her special day? Maybe headcanon a birthday for Makoto/Kotone? Even feel free to celebrate a specific holiday like to Halloween, Christmas, or whichever you prefer! (Any Holiday is okay!)
Tumblr media
This is your chance to experiment with whatever you want! The only thing we ask is that it's ShuYuka focused and that it follows the rules in our prompts post! Aside from that, you're free to create whatever idea you may have!
Tumblr media
Think post game! Maybe tackle The Answer, take a reincarnation aspect and have them start over, or even have them start a new life together! Like with most of the themes as long as the vague idea of it is there, you'll be counted!
And that's everything! Thank you for reading and we hope you participate this year!

Hey I don't know if you remember this, but a few months ago you shared a meta where you discussed (among other things) aspec Rayllum, alterous attraction and queerplatonic relationships. It brought up several terms and ideas I'd never heard of or considered before, and after quite a bit of research and reflection prompted by that, I've finally reached a place where I've realized I'm ace (cue several close friends going "how did it take you this long??") and it's honestly a huge relief. Anyway I just wanted to say thanks for helping to get the gears turning in my brain! I love your blog and all your commentary on TDP & Rayllum!
I do! It's by far one of my favourite posts I've made and under my ace tag, if you'd like to revisit it (or maybe I'm the only one who's sentimental like that). I am so happy it could help you in your journey and is precisely why I find talking about aspec Rayllum not only fun but meaningful and worthwhile
I still remember the fear but ultimately bone deep relief I felt upon accepting my aceness, and it's been absolutely crucial in helping me build a life and relationship dynamics for myself that I love. I hope it can do the same for you!

HELLO AGAIN!!!
random ask once more but, it's a question I've been having for a long while now....
I'm really inspired by all of your fics and all the content you write about (you're definitely one of my favorite authors <3) and I was wondering, is there any inspiration or any way that helps you when writing fics? I also want to try and get in the rhythm of writing my own stuff but it's always so so hard to focus or think of things to write about arghhh
I hope you don't mind this ask 😭
HELLO!! This is like the sweetest compliment ever thank you so much! I literally cannot wrap my mind around me being one of someone’s favorite authors, I feel honored 😭 I don’t mind this ask at all! You can ask anything you’d like whenever you’d like :)
My writing process is a bit chaotic, ngl. I start out with an idea that usually comes to me from staring at my wall for too long and getting too deep in thought. Sometimes it’s like a dialogue prompt, other times it’s a scenario, and then I write the idea at the top of a word doc so I remember it. I also tend to use my fics as a way to vent lmao, a lot of what I put Wars specifically through are things and experiences I’ve had to deal with myself, but I also sometimes just get crazy ideas like “Lol what if Wars fell off a cliff?”, and then I go nuts.
I also don’t always write everything in order? I bounce around a lot, I start with the part of the fic I know is going to be the most action packed or interesting or fun for me to write, and then I sort of build the fic around that? It helps me get in the writing zone. I also have this one writing playlist that helps me. I also write down like, small parts of fics for one idea and then bounce to another doc and write something different there, so I always have like 30 things open that i can revisit and wrap up.
I have really bad ADHD and it’s hard for me to stay doing one thing for too long unless I get seriously into it, so for me it’s all about getting the right vibe and the right place to write in, and starting with what interests me so my brain will latch onto it :)
I hope this wasn’t too complex or insane, I explained my writing process to a friend once and they told me I was nuts 😭
I wish you luck on writing!! :)

I feel I'm rubbish at these, cos I don't give prompts, it's more a collection of words like "HangMatt, with lingerie maybe" *shrug emoji* 😉 Oooooh! Would you ever consider more details on the Hangman Matt experiments?? 🥺
Look So Good Underneath Me - also on AO3
~
Adam decides to try a new one of his experiments with Matt, and decides on pink panties. It backfires. Deliciously.
~
Jules I need you to be aware that this is ENTIRELY your fault. This prompt isn't rubbish, it's pure GOLD. Thank you! Title from Pink G-String by Scene Queen.
~
“I have a present for you,” Adam says once Matt picks up the phone. He lights up immediately.
“A present?” he asks. “What kind? Can I see?”
“Not until Dynamite,” Adam says, fighting his own grin. “You gotta wait.”
Matt huffs. “This is one of your stupid experiments again, isn’t it. Is this like the time you bought me a neon orange butt plug and had me wear it the night we won the six-man tags in Ring of Honor? Is this a throwback?”
Adam throws his head back and laughs. “Oh, my god, no. But we should revisit that. That was good.”
“But it is an experiment,” Matt says, and when Adam turns his eyes back to his phone screen, even FaceTime can’t hide Matt’s interest. “Right?”
“Maybe,” Adam singsongs. “Maybe I just want to get something pretty for my boyfriend.”
“So it’s something pretty!” Matt says, like he solved some sort of puzzle. “Just tell me.”
“Nope,” Adam says. “You have to wait.”
Matt groans, sounding like Adam’s high schoolers would get when he’d tell them they couldn’t skip any more classes or they’d fail. “Is this like the edging thing you did back before the pandemic that backfired?”
Adam frowns. “No. God. Why would you remind me of that disaster?”
“If I’m miserable, you’re miserable,” Matt says, with a grin.
“What a horrible line,” Adam laughs. “I thought you loved me.”
“I do love you,” Matt clarifies. “But you’re being mean to me so I figured I’d give it back to you.”
“Cute,” Adam says. “Very cute. I wish you were here so I could fuck that smug little smile off of you. I’ll have to wait until Wednesday, though.”
Matt turns pink. “Miss you.”
“I miss you too, baby,” Adam murmurs. “I’ll see you soon. Two days, okay?”
“Two days,” Matt confirms. “Love you.”
“I love you more.”
Adam hangs up and has to shove his face in a pillow with the stupid, fluffy feeling building in his chest. It’s been months back with Matt, and before that years with and without him, and he still gets all dumb about him.
When he’s finally gotten his shit together and has stopped mooning over his boyfriend, Adam grabs the box he’d ordered and pulls out the pink lacy thong, neon and so flimsy it’s almost pointless.
The sight of it alone, the image of what Matt might look like wearing it, is enough to get him hard. He gets off looking at a photo of Matt, and curling the lacy fabric in his free hand.
~
“Hi!”
Adam turns to see a familiar flurry barreling toward him and leaping into his arms.
“Hey, baby,” he says, hugging Matt close. Matt’s legs around his waist feel like home. “It’s only been a couple days, you really miss me that much?”
“Uh-huh,” Matt says, burying his face into Adam’s neck. He sighs. “Plus you did the teasy thing again with the present, and now that I see you, I know I’m gonna get it.”
“Oh, you’re gonna get it alright,” Adam says, sliding his hand up Matt’s thigh.
“For the love of god, not in the airport.”
Adam brushes some of Matt’s hair out of the way. “Oh! Hi, Nick.”
“Hey,” Nick nods. “Can you put my brother down, please?”
Matt lets out a long suffering sigh as he slides down Adam’s body to the floor. “You ruin the fun, Nicky.”
“I ruin the public indecency charges.” Nick hits Matt in the back with his own backpack. “Grab your stuff so we can all get to the hotel and I can have some peace away from you two heathens.”
“Heathens, schmeathens,” Matt says, rolling his eyes as he grabs his backpack and Adam’s hand. “I’m not the one who was checking out Billy Gunn’s ass last week.”
“Really!” Adam says. “Nick, do you have a thing for Billy?”
“Shut up, Matt,” Nick grumbles. He won’t meet Adam’s eyes. “Matt, you said you wouldn’t say anything.”
“Yeah, but it’s Adam,” Matt says, like the name alone gives context. “You know. We tell him everything.”
“You tell him everything,” Nick corrects, shaking his head with a little smile on his face. “I try to keep a little mystery going.”
~
It’s a whirlwind to get back to the hotel, and they end up with less time than Adam had hoped to get ready. He’s in the middle of unpacking when Matt shuffles past him with his carryon thrown over his shoulder. Always the performer.
“You know you don’t have to show off the biceps all the time for me to think you’re hot, right?”
Matt throws a grin over his shoulder. “Yeah, but it’s fun.” He unzips his bag, and Adam is…concerned.
“Oh,” Adam says, blinking. “The white gear.”
“Yeah,” Matt says, taking the white gear and putting it carefully into his venue bag. “I thought you like the white gear.”
Adam bites his lip. “Oh, I do. I definitely do. I just, uh,” he turns around to go to his checked luggage, and pulls out the poorly wrapped gift. “Here. Open it.”
Matt’s brow furrows. “Oh, I know what this is.”
“You do?” Adam asks. “How?”
Matt locks his eyes on Adam’s as he rips it open, pulls out the box, and pulls out the panties. “Because you’re predictable, Adam.” He grins. “You’ve always liked me in pink.”
“Okay, see, but who wouldn’t?” He crowds into Matt’s space until Matt’s back hits the wall. He brushes some of Matt’s hair over his shoulder, careful to graze his fingers against Matt’s neck, just to make his shiver. He leans in, lips at Matt’s ear. “You look so good in it.”
Matt exhales. “Why are you doing this to me when we have to be at the venue in twenty minutes?” he whispers.
“Because I like it when you get riled up.”
Matt laughs. “So predictable.” But he’s breathing a little heavily, his eyes are a little blown, and he can’t stop looking at Adam’s mouth. “I – do you want me to wear this under my gear? Because, well, Nick and I thought white gear because it goes with everything, but we also brought something else.” Matt steps away from Adam and reaches into his bag.
“The purple and black and white would definitely make it harder to see the thong through the clothes.” Adam licks his lips. “Then it’s just you and me who know. Maybe I’ll snap at it a little during the match, just to remind you.”
“Okay, seriously, this is just mean,” Matt says, and he folds his arms across his chest. “You better get me really good after Rampage. I don’t care how tired I am.”
Adam tilts his head. “I – what?”
“You heard me,” Matt says, sliding a leg between Adam’s. “You’re gonna rail me so hard after tonight’s match, when we win those belts back, it’ll be like we’re back in our Ring of Honor days.”
Adam blinks. “That might be the most dominant you’ve ever been, and it’s begging me to fuck you. You’re an enigma, baby.”
Matt is snippy and on edge the whole night, and Adam fights the urge to laugh when Kenny says, “Jesus, what crawled up your ass.” Matt huffs and glares at Adam.
“Are you two in a fight?” Nick asks. “Because if you two are in a fight, I’ll be forced to kill you if we don’t win tonight. I don’t want to commit murder.”
“We’re not fighting,” Adam says, and his expression is apparently not blank enough because Nick groans.
“Jesus, you two,” but at least he’s laughing. “Don’t even tell me. Just,” he turns to Matt, “be normal for the match.”
“I am normal!”
“Are not.”
“Are too!”
“Okay,” Adam says, stepping between the two of them before they get each other riled up in the bad way. “Why don’t we all get back to the locker room and start getting ready, yeah?”
“I’ll see you three later,” Kenny says, eyes not leaving the screen next to Tony. “I don’t want to miss anything.”
It’s early to get ready, with Rampage just starting, but Adam would rather Nick and Matt be bitchy in private than to gather an audience.
“I don’t know why I got dragged in here,” Nick says, rolling his eyes.
“Because Matt’s bitchy and you were goading him,” Adam explains.
“Yeah, Nick –”
“Nope,” Adam says, shoving him into a chair. “Not on your side, baby.” He takes the moment to loom over Matt, who goes all giant eyed and soft. He adds the next sentence in a whisper. “Be good.”
Matt nods. “Okay.”
“I’d say teach me how to do that,” Nick says, flopping into a chair, “but I think that would be gross.”
Adam laughs. “No shit, Sherlock.”
They watch the rest of the show as they slowly pull their gear on. Nick is rambling about shoes while Matt stays extremely close to Adam.
“Matt, I’m not gonna fuck you until after the match,” Adam murmurs, disguising it with a kiss to Matt’s temple.
“Why not?”
“We have, like, twenty minutes before we have to be at gorilla.”
Matt gets this little smile on his face. “Well –”
“No!” Adam laughs. He falls onto the couch next to Matt and grabs him around the waist. “God, you’re the worst.”
“You both suck pretty bad right now,” says Nick, but he’s smiling down at his phone, so Adam thinks it’s not too bad. He resists the urge to ask if it’s Billy.
“I gotta go put on my gear,” Matt says, and he winks at Adam. When he gets his things out of his bag, Adam feels a shiver run up his spine when he spots a hint of neon pink. From where he’s bent over, Matt flashes him a grin that makes Adam rock hard in seconds.
“Fuck,” he mutters, and he realizes far later than he should have that, as much as this experiment messes with Matt, it’ll mess with him, too.
~
Adam thinks the universe is an absolute dickwad by sending Swerve out in the middle of his match with Matt. He’s able to focus when he gets flashes of pink, so slight and so infrequently he’s sure no one else can see it. But it powers him, and it focuses him, and it reminds him why he’s here.
He catches the pink in the corner of his eye right before he pins Cage.
“We did it!” Matt says, breathless and grinning, belt in his hands as he walks backstage. “We won!”
“We did,” Adam laughs, and he’s not doing the best job of staying in the moment, stuck on Swerve and what he might do next. “Holy shit, we did.”
“Hey,” Matt says firmly. “Focus on right now.” He raises his belt and bumps it with Adam’s, and it feels like a promise. “We did it.”
Nick barrels in. “Not to interrupt the love fest, but Hung Bucks champs for life!” He throws his arms around the both of them, and they stumble their way into a wall. Adam’s happy, the kind of soul expanding, deep, long term happy he only feels around Matt, around Nick, around his friends.
The way he used to feel around the Dark Order. But he’s going to listen to Matt. And he’ll focus on right now.
Still tangled with both Bucks, Adam pulls back a little and grins, locking eyes with Matt as he slides his hand down Matt’s back, just under the hem of his pants, and snaps the waistband of the panties.
Matt looks deliciously scandalized, the pink across his cheeks and the smile making it very clear where his mind went.
“Okay,” Nick laughs. “Let’s get backstage to the –”
“Oh, no you don’t.” Tony practically stomps over to them. “I need you two – not you, Adam, unless you want to, I guess – to help coordinate Ubers and Lyfts for some of the talent.”
 Matt blinks. “Why?”
“Because it’s much later than we usually wrap up Rampage and it feels like, I don’t know, wrong to have everybody just try their best to find a ride back to the hotel when it’s past midnight.” He wrinkles his nose. “And I have to talk to the owner of this place about how, no, the blood isn’t going to bring a bad reputation to the place.” He gives Nick a look. “Unless you want to do the political work.”
“I will begin setting up Uber and Lyft rides as long as you never threaten me with politics again,” Nick says. “Come on you, two. Adam, you can talk on a phone, right?”
“Literally no,” Adam says. “Like, anxious millennial is my whole vibe.”
“Deal with it,” Nick says, and he grabs Adam and Matt by the wrists and yanks them over to a quieter space.
Adam makes so many phone calls. So many. Matt, next to him, is chattering away with a big smile, and the tiny hint of pink peeking out from the back of his pants is enough to make Adam’s brain fry.
They go on like this for twenty full minutes, call after call to coordinate between people. The worst is giving specific Uber and Lyft codes out to talent until they can barely read numbers, until Tony comes back from his meeting with a smile.
“You three,” he says, pointing to them, “are godsends. The owner of this place figured out what was happening and thought that we could use that to combat any blood related PR for the night, so no more worries about the way things look.” He exhales. “Go back to the locker rooms, get ready to go. They’re giving us an extra forty-five minutes to clean up and give you time to get yourselves together.”
“Great,” Adam says, blood suddenly no longer in his head. “Wonderful.”
“I’m heading back to the hotel now,” Nick says, typing on his phone. “I can shower there. I’m beat.”
Adam laughs, almost accidentally. “Come on, Matty, let’s go clean up.”
Nick goes with them to get his gear, and Adam’s so hard he’s getting dizzy. Matt can’t even know how the way he bends over flashes the tiniest hint of pink every time, how Adam can tell, through the pants, Matt’s in a thong that Adam bought for him. For some ungodly reason, Matt pulls on a tee shirt. A shirt. He’s covering up that perfect body more.
Adam feels like a dick, but he tries to silently will Nick to pack faster.
Matt yawns a little, stretching enough to reveal another flash of pink, and Adam snaps.
“Nick,” he says, voice sounding tight. “Need help packing?”
“Nah, I’m good,” Nick says. He throws his bag over his shoulder. “You guys wanna get Denny’s or something?”
Matt opens his mouth, but Adam barrels over him. “Nah, we’re good.” He shoots Matt a look that he hopes conveys ‘stop talking so I can fuck you into oblivion.’ “We’ll see you tomorrow, okay?”
Nick narrows his eyes, studying Adam’s face, and Adam tries to stay as neutral as possible. “If you end up on the news tomorrow for whatever this,” he waves his hand, “energy is, I’m not bailing you out.”
“Deal,” Adam says. “Fine. See you tomorrow. Love you. Bye.”
Nick’s still laughing as the door swings shut behind him.
“What is up with –”
Adam doesn’t give Matt the time to speak. He collides with Matt, grabbing at his shirt, ripping it at the hem at his haste to get it off.
“Mine,” he growls against Math’s mouth as he kisses him.
“Oh!” Matt yelps. “Oh, yes, love this.”
Adam shoves Matt against the wall, leaning in to suck a bruise into Matt’s neck, down his shoulder. Matt hums into it.
“I kind of liked that shirt,” he pants. “You ripped it.”
“Yeah?” Adam asks. He grabs at Matt’s thighs and lifts him. “Deal with it, baby, I’m gonna wreck a lot more.”
Matt lets out this delighted, high pitched little whine. “God, took you long enough.”
Adam drops Matt on the massage table, scrabbling at the waistband of Matt’s gear pants. He grabs Matt’s hand and pins it to he massage table when he tries to help, and Matt exhales.
“God, yes,” Matt exhales. “I love it when you get this way.”
“You in those fuckin’ panties,” Adam grumbles, roughly yanking Matt’s gear pants down. He lets go of Matt’s hand, needing an assist, and Matt reaches above his head to grab at the top of the table.
“Yeah?” Matt asks, lifting his hips so Adam can yank the pants down. “You like them a lot?”
“I can’t stand them,” Adam says, and he doesn’t even take the time to take the panties off. He leans in, mouths at Matt’s dick through the lace, and the whine that comes out of Matt is almost enough to make Adam come in his pants.
“Adam,” Matt gasps. “Oh – take ‘em off, now, I need you to fuck me immediately.”
Adam pulls back, grinning. “Did you just swear?”
Matt pushes up on his elbows. “Did you just stop?”
“Fair point.” Adam pulls back and locks his eyes on Matt as he walks back to the bags.
“Why are you leaving?” Matt asks, breathing so hard Adam can see the movement. “Come back.”
“Gotta get lube, baby,” Adam says, grinning. He slides his hand in his bag, and it’s right in the front pocket, in the ziplock one quart baggie that made the TSA agent blush. He flicks the bottle open with one thumb, and Matt drops back with a thud against the massage table.
Adam gets back to Matt and unbuckles his pants as fast as he can, his cock springing from his boxers when he shoves them down his hips. It’s almost a relief. He grabs Matt’s legs, yanking him half off the table.
“Yes,” Matt says. “Yes, now, anything.”
Adam laughs, and it sounds a little dark to his own ears. “Slow down baby, we gotta get you nice and open first.”
Matt whines, one of Adam’s favorite sounds, and throws his legs over Adam’s shoulders without another request. Adam presses a kiss to the inside of his thigh. “I gotta take these off first.”
“Okay,” Matt says, but Adam stops him before he moves his legs. Adam leans in and carefully grabs the band around Matt’s thighs with his teeth, dragging them down a thigh. It’s harder than he would have expected, but with a little help from his hands, the panties are gone. He shifts, ducking so he can yank them off and throw them somewhere in the room.
“You have no idea how hot that was,” Matt pants. “Get in me.”
“Hold on,” Adam laughs, turning to bite at the soft skin of Matt’s thigh. He drips lube on his fingers and watches, rapt, as he traces Matt’s hole for a second, listening to Matt’s pained whimpers.
“Adam, please.” He sounds like he’s near to tears. “I can’t wait any more. Please.”
Adam slides a finger inside of Matt, and it’s so easy, like he’s made to fit inside of Matt. Matt exhales and his body relaxes.
“Not enough,” he gasps, “but better.”
Adam grins as he works in another finger, Matt pleading for more as each twist of his fingers presses up against his prostate. With the third, Matt’s heels press into Adam’s shoulders so firmly Adam’s pretty sure there will be a mark.
“I’m ready, and you know it,” Matt bitches. “I want it now.”
Adam drops Matt down, grip iron on Matt’s thighs, until he’s at the right angle. Like this, he can pull Matt down on his dick, the leverage so perfect it feels impossible.
“Oh, god, yes,” Matt groans. “That’s – holy fuck.”
“Two fucks in one night,” Adam quips, finally clearheaded now that his dick is buried in Matt, “what a surprise.”
“I could go for two in one night,” Matt says, and he uses those obscene biceps and a grip on the table to fuck himself on Adam’s dick. “Back at the hotel?”
“Focus on getting railed right now, Matthew, Jesus,” Adam laughs, but he can’t stop smiling. It’s been years since they started doing this, months since they fell back together, and it’s still this good. He still can’t get enough of Matt’s attempts to keep a conversation going, of the way Matt yanks him down for a kiss, the way he’ll grab at Adam’s hand even when it’s impossible to hold hands.
“I love you,” Adam says, “just wanna make sure you know.”
“I know,” Matt says, eyes fluttering closed as Adam adjusts the pace and the angle. “I – know, Adam, I love you too. I wanna come soon, please?”
“You asking permission now?” Adam chuckles. “That something you might wanna try? Me saying no?”
“Not today, but yes,” Matt says. He’s got his teeth sunk down in that pretty pink lip of his, and Adam has to lean in and kiss it, just for the moment. He taps Matt’s leg to make sure he hooks it right around Adam’s waist, then moves his hand, still slick, to wrap around Matt’s cock. Matt whimpers when Adam keeps his grip lose and not quite what he wanted. He was tortured earlier with knowing all of this was covered in pretty pink. Matt can get a little teasing too. Only, he realizes, as he loosens his grip even further, now he’s thinking about those panties, and what Matt would look like in another pair, and his brain is flames again.
“Matt,” Adam laughs, a bit delirious, “fuck, I think this experiment backfired.”
“I disagree,” and he sounds far too put together. Adam picks up the pace of both his hand and his thrusts. “I – oh my god, right like that – think it proved that I look good in panties, right?”
“Yeah, of course you do. But I think it fucked with me more than it fucked with you.” He digs his fingers into Matt’s thighs, tightens his grip on Matt’s cock. “God, I want to be inside you all the time. Next time I’m fucking you with the panties on.”
“Yes,” Matt whines. “Yeah, get – get me all kinds of colors, rip ‘em off me.”
Adam isn’t used to feeling this, like he needs to fuck Matt and won’t settle until he does, like being hilt deep in the man is the only thing that will keep him stable. He may have accidentally edged himself, which he didn’t realize was possible to do. “Anything,” he growls in Matt’s ear, and he bites at Matt’s thigh. Matt gasps.
“If me in undies does this to you, I should have gotten some sooner,” Matt laughs breathlessly. But the laughter fades quickly as Adam fucks into him like his life depends on it. “I – just like – this is different – don’t you dare change anything or I’ll – yes!” Matt comes spectacularly, so emphatically it gets up on Adam’s chin, and it’s enough to make Adam’s head spin with how he’s the one who made this happen. He’s the one who gets to see Matt like this, who gets to fuck him, who gets to love him, who gets every perfect and messy piece of him.
When he comes, he wonders if he’s allow to start thinking about proposing again.
“Jesus,” Adam says, exhaling as he pushes Matt back up the massage table. He drops his elbows down on the massage table, dropping his forehead on Matt’s messy belly.
Matt laughs, hands sliding into Adam’s hair, gently stroking. “Yeah,” he sighs. “I’m glad we have our own room. Think how weird it would have been to do it in the locker room when anyone could walk in.”
Adam raises his head. “You say weird, but I think you mean hot.”
“Of course I mean hot, but I’m trying to be a normal person.”
“Nope,” Adam says, and he presses a kiss right above Matt’s belly button. “Not allowed to be normal. If you were normal, you wouldn’t be Matt.”
They kiss and touch and gently wash in their private shower. Adam shares his shampoo with Matt and tries not to think of how it’ll make Matt smell like him, how it’ll make everything that much more difficult for him to manage knowing Matt feels even more like his.
They stumble out of the showers naked, drying off together, and dress with the slowest hands and most wandering eyes.
Adam thinks they’re in the clear, for once. Most of the roster is long gone, Nick’s at the hotel. Tony’s probably packing up. They might have time to waste. He and Matt are giggling at each other, hands all over each other like they’re in high school behind bleachers, packing up their stuff, when the door swings open.
“Any of you EVP guys got a – the fuck is that?”
“Is what?” Matt asks, and his expression is so clearly feigning innocence that it’s almost embarrassing.
Mox laughs, nodding to the corner of the locker room by the showers. “I bet those are yours, Jackson. You always look so good in pink.”
Adam’s and Matt’s heads snap over to – yup. Matt’s panties are still in the corner.
“Oh,” Matt says, biting his lip. He looks over to Mox, and Adam can see the way he steels himself. “Yeah, they are. And I do look good in them. You’re right about something.”
Adam thinks his own astonishment is reflected by Mox’s face. “Oh,” Mox says. “Okay. Yeah, didn’t see you admitting to it so easily. Damn.” He scans Matt’s body, then his gaze flickers to Adam. “You ever want a third, you got my number.”
“What?” Adam asks. “I thought you hated me.”
Mox laughs so hard and for so long it gives Matt the time to grab the panties from the corner of the room and stuff them back in his venue bag. “Oh, dude, no.” He shakes his head. “You think I would put myself in the position to get my hands all over the two of you in matches because I hate you?” He chuckles, almost condescending. “Jesus, you’re stupid. I love it.”
“What did you even come in here for?” Matt asks, planting his hands on his hips. He’s got a that little blush back, high on his cheeks. Adam knows what that means.
“I figured one of you two would have a phone charger.” He wiggles a gigantic brick in his hand. “Only room in the building with a light still behind it.”
Matt scoffs. “I have a charger, but maybe not for something that ancient.”
“It’s got a lightning plug!”
Adam snorts. “Sounds like a butt plug brand.”
“That is not a butt plug brand,” Mox says, at the same time Matt goes, “I’d buy from them.”
Adam watches the two of them lock eyes, and that blush rises up Matt’s cheeks even deeper red. But, Adam notes, it’s matched by one on Mox’s cheeks. “Okay, well, if you two are done eye fucking, we can find you a charger.” Adam decides to keep the idea that just popped into his head safe for later, when he and Matt are alone.
“We weren’t – we didn’t –” Matt looks over at Adam, panicked, but settles at Adam’s grin.
“Yeah, we were, baby doll, and I think he liked it.” Mox winks at Matt, then Adam. “So. Where’s that charger?”
