I’ve Been Praying All Along
I’ve Been Praying All Along
As my kids have gotten older, it’s gotten more difficult to have a regularly scheduled personal practice. I used to have a very solid devotion/prayer schedule: daily devotion (often at dawn), twice weekly trance work, weekly solitary rite, full moon rite, new moon rite, Druid moon rite, and high day rite. These days I’m lucky if I manage a devotion once a week, trance work really only happens…

If Byleth really did spare Seteth and Flayn with Edelgard’s knowledge and consent to do so, then why can’t Edelgard just spare them herself? If Byleth spares Seteth and Flayn without telling Edelgard first and she allows them to go free, then why isn’t that ever shown? And why isn’t Edelgard then allowed to go into Linhardt and Leonie’s paralogue, along with Hubert? And why does Edelgard rejoice in getting rid of all of the Nabateans in her S support if she’s really fine with them being around? If Edelgard thinks that the presence of Nabateans means humanity can’t thrive, then why would she want them around? And how would it make sense for her to only let Seteth and Flayn leave if they’re defeated by specifically and only Byleth - again, why not spare them herself if she’s really okay with them if they just leave?
And in the first place... why should her “letting” them leave be a good thing? Why is forcing Seteth and Flayn off of the one land they’ve ever called home - or, at best, living in Fodlan in seclusion away from humans, again - supposed to be a good option for them, and not the result of Edelgard forcing two horrible “choices” onto people she legit wants dead?
It’s almost as though... she didn’t “let” Byleth spare them, and that was a decision Byleth made behind her and Hubert’s backs. Just like the decision to go to Lake Teutates to go see Indech was done behind her and Hubert’s backs. Almost like anyone with eyes can see that the only Nabatean Edelgard can stomach seeing is a dead one, and so anyone that wants a Nabatean to live makes sure to do so under her nose.
Hey, gee, isn’t it weird that if Byleth is the one to land the “killing” blow on Seteth or Flayn, there’s no option to actually kill them - they’re always spared, unlike Claude and Lysithea? Isn’t it weird that there’s no circumstance where Linhardt can be convinced to let Edelgard come to the Lake Teutates field trip, even though he otherwise never has anything to say about Edelgard or the war effort? And isn’t it weird how in contrast to those two Edelgard can literally never spare a Nabatean by herself ever? I wonder if that’s supposed to mean anything hmmmmmmmmmmm

Nopes AU :
Dedue and Catherine create the "where the fuck is my liege today" club, and wonder where they are, as they do every Wednesday.
Dimitri and Rhea are talking about agriculture during an expedition, until Rhea spots a pine tree and wonders if the people of Faerghus eat pine nuts, since they are very nutritive and no one is collecting them in the Blaiddyd estate.
Eager to discover a new way to help his people, Dimitri dismounts and tries to eat a raw pinecone (it looks like a big nut?). Rhea offers a sympathic look, before explaining how, pine nuts are inside pinecones, and it's the small things under the scales.
Returning to the city, Dedue is furious because he said a hundred times to His Highness not to eat weeds or strange looking plants. However, Ingrid feasting on roasted pine nuts is enough to make Dedue reconsider, even if Felix and Matthias are kind of sulking because, apparently, pine nuts are used in Adrestian food and they don't want to eat Adrestian things.
Dimitri thanks Rhea for not thinking he is weird or making comments about him trying to eat raw wood. She tells him it is perfectly normal to mistake pine cones for big nuts, and she ate a few of them before learning only the seed like things were edible (to humans, but she left out that last part).
Dimitri secretly thinks it is odd, he tried to eat one and nearly broke his jaw and tooth, how could Lady Rhea have eaten those things? She has fangs or something? As always, being the polite person he is, he doesn't point it out.
They both agree not to tell a thing to Dedue and Catherine.

Legends and myths about trees
Celtic beliefs in trees (24)
Ss for Straif (Blackthorn) - Samhain/Hallowe'en, opening the veil between this world and the spirit world…
“Mother of the Forest – The Celtic Tree Calendar (Ref), The Beginning of Winter”
Colour: red; Star: Mars, Saturn; Gemstone: black opal; Gender: female; Patron: Morrigan; Symbol: inevitability of death, protection + revenge, discord + insidiousness
Blackthorn forms vigorous young trees from the roots, from which dense, thorny bushes grow in dense clumps. Armed with sharp thorns, which can damage human skin. It already starts flowering in early spring, at the beginning of March, and with the onset of winter it produces black berries, commonly known as 'sloes'.
Samhain is the most important festival in the Celtic world, celebrated on 1st November to mark the beginning of winter and therefore the new year. The name 'Samhain' means 'end of summer'. The seasons change from summer to winter (the time of the dead) with this festival. It is a period of short days and darkness, but it is a necessary period for nature to enter a peaceful rest and welcome the bright spring. In the calendar of agricultural societies, this is an important stage for the germination of crop seeds.
Samhain was the solemn festival, when fires were lit and sacrifices were offered to gods such as Taranis and Teutates. Importantly, it was believed that on the eve of this day, 31 October, a passage between this world and the spirit world was opened, allowing inhabitants from the other world to come and visit this world freely and interact with humans in this world. However, while the comings and goings were sometimes favourable, it was also envisaged to be dangerous.
On the Samhain eve, children went from house to house to collect festive offerings. It was also customary to celebrate Samhain by placing a brightly burning candle inside a hollowed-out turnip at the entrance to the house.
Blackthorn is a tree traditionally used for black magic and witchcraft, and its thorns remind us of our own insidious roots. We must remember that we hurt ourselves and others in many ways. If we think about how to avoid hurting each other and courageously face our own insidious roots, blackthorn can guide us to overcome this dark side of our human nature and help us to return the debts of our hearts.
It also helps us to accept the fact that death is something from which no one can escape.

I honestly felt like Byleth lost all importance after joining in 3 HOPES and I would have appreciated her actually integrating at the story... like maybe Shez taking more time warming up to her or having more supports for her.
Even if it was just something like...
Dimitri: ...but I love her! Why won't you accept her?
Shez: She is an evil mastermind! Just look at her!
Byleth, whose head is filled with swords, food and one hundred Teutates pikes bouncing at the rythm of Beyonce's "crazy in love": 👁️👁️
You're not alone there my anon friend. We'all felt betrayed and used (mostly Byleth because big trailers with her only to completely discard her >__> WTF)
BUT before shafting it, HEAR ME OUT First ☝️
In hopes, we're playing as an outside view of the so called 'goddess vessel' (or reincarnation, whatever you wanna call her). Her time powers are mainly imperceptible to the rest of the cast in 3 houses, and so we get that Pov in Hopes. Shez's the only one who manage to get a hint of it -only a hint- mainly because their own powers ((And of course, us, the players who already played houses and are aware of them))
Who knows, perhaps Byleth managed to do an epic side quest on her own, break the Saharas (or that thing) and we will never get to know it because we're no longer in her mind. Seems like in the end of Shez/Byleth A support, Byleth went through something that made her accept the goddess role in her (she seems happy about it). We never know if Sothis and Byleth fused, or what happened to Sothis in general, but Byleth knows and won't tell us much because Byleth is reserved and humble(in those aspects). She'll be an anonymous goddess walking among the common folk who are unaware of her condition, offering kindness and personal guidance. She won't be able to help in her full potencial but the thought is also nice. Anyway, we will never know unless IS drop a DLC with such content (the hints of a DLC are there but considering how badly the game performed, a big chunk as already given up that idea - everyone but me lol because I am a stubborn clown 🤡- )
With that being said! I am all in for that kind of support. Everyone telling Dimitri to be wary of the Ashen Demon while she's there in a corner chomping a fish 👁️w👁️💦

Woe! Nabatean be upon ye! His name is Temair, and he was one of Sothis' older direct children.
Legends say his father is the lion god Faerghus. Accounted for in the oldest Faerghal myths as a saint-king of Fhirdiad until his mysterious leave and subsequent disappearance--where his descendant Elite Blaiddyd would rule in his stead. In a few surviving folktales, it appears he held a fondness for the spirit residing in Lake Teutates.

Year of the Dragon Opening Round - Match 2
Tumblr media
(pictured: an ice dragon from Mystery of the Emblem; Ninian appearing before Eliwood in dragon form in Blazing Blade; a dagon from Echoes: Shadows of Valentia; the dragon form that Corrin and Kana assume in Fates; and the Lord of the Lake from Three Houses)
associated lore under the cut
archanean ice dragons are one of the dragon clans that once reigned supreme over Archanea. they dwell in the frigid mountains due north, and can easily swim across the rivers that flow there. none of them are known to have survived the degeneration. the feral population is still largely driven by instinct to protect the Ice Dragon Temple at the end of Anri's Way.
dagons are ocean-dwelling beasts that inhabit the seas between Archanea and Valentia. they fight with their claws as well as by spewing walls of water. skilled anglers aspire to catch them, a process that requires not only mettle, but also, superior equipment. the reward for doing so, however, is the dagon's delicious and valuable meat.
elibean ice dragons number among the dragons who were driven out of Elibe by the Scouring. before then, folklore claims that a dragon who lived in the tallest mountain in Ilia taught the humans in the region how to survive its year-round harsh cold weather. two half-ice dragons -- one of them a powerful priestess -- have also survived crossing the Dragon's Gate back into Elibe.
at least one silent dragon figures among the First Dragons who once dwelled in the lands of Hoshido and Nohr. his powers include hydromancy, clairvoyance, and mind control, and some of his half-blooded descendants inherit either his ability to assume dragon form, or his ability to command water.
the lord of the lake is the draconic form of Indech, a Nabatean dragon who once fought alongside Seiros against Nemesis. likely owing to a notedly shy and reclusive personality, he subsequently retired to the depths of Lake Teutates, where he guards a powerful legendary bow. he is friendly and hospitable to visiting humans, but also greatly enjoys testing them.

Let’s approach the Indech paralogue from another angle
Getting back to Indech for a moment, Edelgard’s detractors love to insist that Linhardt keeps Edelgard and Hubert in the dark about the expedition to  Lake Teutates (at least until after it’s over), because Edelgard would totally make turtle soup out of Indech if given the chance.
Except, you know, Linhardt didn’t know Indech was there until after he encountered him and studied him up close. In fact, Linhardt just flat-out didn’t want to go there at all,
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s zero chance he would be so reluctant to go if he was expecting to meet a Saint in the flesh. And this can’t be because he doesn’t want to risk luring Edelgard there because he behaves the same in non-CF routes.
For the sake of argument, let’s suppose Edelgard would have totally wanted to kill Indech. Why would the devs go out of their way to stop this? They already allow you the option of killing Seteth and Flayn.
From a Doylist pespective, they keep Edelgard out of the paralogue because encountering another live Nabatean she’s not enemies with would involve a lot of rewriting of future events if she spoke to Indech and learned about the past from him.
And that’d be an enormous amount of work caused by an optional paralogue that involves a unit who’s not even a base unit of the Black Eagles.

Favourite things about Rhea? And, because the game hates to see her happy and thriving, any headcanons you have for her? Honestly I just want some Rhea content and I trust you to deliver some Quality Shit.
Actually morally gray character that brings up genuinely interesting moral hypotheticals ("Do you allow for the advancement of technology after witnessing firsthand the horrors that came from allowing such a thing to happen in the past?" "Do you morph history in order to protect a persecuted minority from being further attacked and killed?" "If you were to have an extremely long life, should you use it to be a long-standing guiding figure for those who don't share your long lifespan?") as well as performing actions that are understandable but still extremely morally questionable (creating homunculi in order to revive Sothis).
The voice acting for her, both JPN and even the butchered ENG direction one, are so good and really let you get a feel for her deeply she feels emotions. More so in the JPN version, but her Fallen!Rhea alt in FEH provides some quality Sad Sounding Rhea content for her ENG version to catch up on lol (even though hot take yes her ENG version has way less range than her JPN version but I don't mind Angrhea cuz her being Blood Sweatin' Pissed always made sense to me given her circumstances. Definitely needs more range tho, fuck the voice direction she got lmao)
I like that she's actually fairly shy? Like she wants to interact with people more but she's so worried that she'd just make things awkward for them - woman's so worried about it she's anonymously asking this piece of wood mercenary advice about how to politely tell someone hosting a tea party that she prefers her tea cold 😭 Like yes she can be very stern and decisive when it comes to big matters but damn how can that not tickle your heart some lmao
I really like that she does eventually come to see Byleth as their own person and not just an amnesiac Sothis, especially because this comes as a result of her seeing it for herself and coming to that revelation herself - and that, even after realizing that Byleth =/= Sothis, she still wants them to lead Fodlan because she genuinely trusts them to use Sothis' power for the betterment of the people. That actually says a lot! Because she could always see that Byleth isn't Sothis and then come to resent Byleth for it, or otherwise not trust them with Sothis' power that she knows they have now, but she doesn't. And she owns up to what she did and admits that she was wrong to do it! That takes a lot to admit, especially given her specific circumstances.
As for headcanons, I have a few:
It takes a while for her to put on her ornate Church robes, but not really because of the clothes themselves; not anymore anyway, a few hundred years down the line and it becomes simple enough to put on fairly quickly. No, it's because everyday she has to very meticulously rub off all of the cat/dog hair that sticks to her after letting in like a dozen stray cats and dogs into her room when Seteth's not looking. She can't afford to get caught by Seteth look unprofessional or anything silly like that! It's a big hassle (especially sneaking in the dogs), but the fuzzy lil' furballs are just too cute to not let in <3
Auntie Rhea teaching Flayn about the stars is one of her favorite past times - she was so happy when Byleth returned her star chart to her after she'd lost it, cuz she planned on giving it to Flayn once she learned the constellations properly so that she can spot them on the chart.
Her relationship with Macuil is rather strained - she knows he isn't fond of her staying with humans, and she can't ever seem to build up the courage to talk to him knowing that. But she visits Indech once every few decades, when she can get away with it. Looking at the landscape painting of Lake Teutates always brings a smile to her face, knowing that closed-off Indech is safe and content enough as he is.
She and Seteth are super super omega mature always no matter what... except when Rhea calls him a moldy-oldy and kicks off an hour long insult-a-thon between the two of them. It brings levity to the both of them, rare as they are to happen.
I wanna keep them light-hearted plus that seems like enough for now so imma stop there lmao

Note
You can take that to mean he’s so comfortable in his safe space that Indech is able to handle being around others. Now if he was OUT of the lake, which even has fog to hide him, would he act the same? Which is why I side with Seteth on this that he probably does panic and freak out when not in a place he considers safe. Especially as the place is kept secret enough and even Lindhardt tries not to have what he really is be unveiled.
Mmh,
I'd say there is a difference between being able to "handle" being around others and what is going on with this "trial" of his !
Linhardt says this :
"There's a legend I read recently about Saint Indech, one of the Four Saints of the Church of Seiros."
He apparently read about the "you can get Indech's bow if you go to lake teutates!" legend, but it was not a well kept one, since Indech himself states that he knows why the gang is here :
"I know well what it is that you desire. If you want it, you must first complete my trial."
And it's not the first time people tried to come to get his bow, since he goes :
"The best I can do nowadays is to have fun meddling with humans who wander in here."
aka he has fun "meddling with humans" who came here, so it was definitely not a once in his long lifetime experience
Now, I suppose if he didn't want humans to come and bother him in his pond, he could have asked Rhea to do something and call Lake Teutates off limits, but the fact this "legend" exists and Indech is having fun with human he is expecting to meet, suggests, imo, that he is merely handling them, but he is waiting/expecting them, even if I already made a joke about him inviting them over with this nonsense about a "trial".
As for outside of his pond...
Nopes Indech was said to have had his workshop in a small village (a hamlet) and since Zanado is the only Nabatean village, I supposed he was there with humans?
All things considered, I'd say his behaviour during the paralogue in FE16 + Nopes saying he lived in a small village suggests he doesn't/didn't have the same social anxiety Bernie has, or maybe Seteth, the sort of "strict but kind older brother" only sees him as the timid person maybe young!Indech used to be?
IDK, both Indech and Macuil have less lines and mentions than Lambert in both games, so we can only extrapolate and ultimately headcanon about them!
tfw Waldemar'n'Leopold have more screentime in Nopes than Macuil'n'Indech who has tiny sprites in Nopes but weren't ultimately used..

Have Some Three Hopes Story Predictions
I don't usually like to make predictions for upcoming content, but with Three Hopes only a week away and with plenty of material already from which to build ideas I decided to take a crack at it. Beware of extensive spoilers from datamined info.
Scarlet Blaze
Edelgard conquers All The Things, as is her wont.
Probable battlefields include the Great Bridge (Chapter 6, when the Empire is retreating back across it after taking Garreg Mach?), Arianrhod (Chapter 8), either the palace again or the streets of Enbarr (Chapter 9), Shambhala or another Agarthan holdout (Chapter 12 or 13), and Fhirdiad during endgame.
During her conquest Edelgard discovers and kills Thales and Kronya. Solon is also a possibility, while Cleobulus is more of a longshot for this route. This will be used to retroactively validate the war for continental conquest; Shez may possibly be allowed to question this, but nothing will come of it.
Around Chapter 9 Aegir and Varley will return to the story as antagonists, and Edelgard will have to kill them both to solidify her hold on the Empire. Ferdinand and Bernadetta will not be named as ministers in their fathers' places, however, because apparently only cold-blooded patricide nets you that honor.
The final chapter is "Torment of the Eagle and Lion," indicating that it either takes place at Gronder Field or that Dimitri is a final boss alongside or - less likely - in place of Rhea. The latter seems much more plausible from a geographic standpoint.
Azure Gleam
A standard FE plot with the invading red emperor and counterinvasion by the lord, with bonus homoromanticism.
Probable battlefields include Arianrhod (Chapter 9), the Rhodos Coast and Lake Teutates (see below), Merceus toward the end, and Enbarr and/or its palace in endgame.
Ongoing civil conflict with the western lords of Faerghus will create issues, and bring out Gwendal and possibly even Lonato as antagonists. Cleobulus will likely be involved here, and will in any case be addressed on this route.
The Western Church will also be an antagonist per foreshadowing in SB that they still have a contact with the Empire, which leads to them attacking the Rhodos Coast (which may also be where Seteth and Flayn pop in to become playable). This may be source of the Chapter 10 title "Fanaticism"...or it may be a reference to the nationalist and or/anti-Nabatean propaganda of the Southern Church which AG builds up as more of a threat.
Lake Teutates is located in the Kingdom, so it's likely that one chapter will involve either visiting Indech or protecting him from the Empire. This could dovetail with the anti-Nabatean push above...and will absolutely drag up old discourse re: the equivalent paralogue in Three Houses if true.
If Gilbert is not in fact playable then he may fully take Rodrigue's place and die during the course of the story, although based on Annette's description if he does die it won't be until near the end.
In Chapter 14 ("The Absent Emperor") Edelgard will pull an Ashnard and not be there when the Kingdom army reaches Enbarr. Instead, they'll be confronted by the demented duo of Hubert and Ferdinand, the latter getting to live however momentarily his dream of standing in the emperor's place. Ideally I'd want this to as fabulous and melodramatic as possible, and the Lions to feel like a leather convention that accidentally wandered into the most evil drag ball in the world.
This is followed by a fight against the Hegemon in some other location, except she's probably even more conventionally appealing here than in Heroes because marketing, and it's all so very tragic that Edelgard didn't have a self-insert to reach for her hand. Monica is also in this final battle, having at last usurped Hubert as Edelgard's #1 minion after she was totally on board with the Hegemon thing: she's totally down with monsterfucking, but Hubert (very ironically) is not.
Golden Wildfire
Foreshadowing plus the opening of the war arc of SB suggest that Gloucester will betray the Alliance early on, allowing the Empire to cross the Great Bridge to attack Garreg Mach even after you defend it in Chapter 4. This contributes to by far the largest political shakeup in this game that we're aware of -
Halfway through GW Claude dissolves the Alliance and names himself king of Leicester. Gloucester is definitely not on board and is apparently killed off after this, possibly as an enemy, making Lorenz the new count. This new show of unity may be the explanation for the Empire not outright conquering the Alliance, or failing at it since the chapter titles seem to swerve away from that storyline.
Of course Shahid will return as an antagonist, and Thales (maybe Solon?) is also likely with Shambhala in Alliance territory. I would also be surprised if Nemesis didn't make an appearance in GW, likely as the final boss, to tie it all back in to VW.
Chapter 12 ("The Two Kings") will see now-king Claude and Dimitri either fighting each other or teaming up - could go either way.
There are a few chapter titles in GW that could indicate a continuation of Shez's story, although alternatively one of the unaligned chapter titles is "The Hour of Vengeance" which could be just for them squaring off against Jeralt's Mercenaries again as a side bit in all routes.
Speaking of, there are a handful of other such titles that could either be postgame content or some sort of lategame branching path, but the latter is less likely for all routes given the massive story divergence. Maybe "The Path Forward" is the title setting up New Game+, and when you choose that option Sothis breaks the fourth wall in a Clue-style "That's what could have happened...but how about this?" transition kicking you back to the house selection at the start of the game, only with the route you completed removed as an option (or alternatively Arval complains at you if you try to pick it again). The second time this happens you're railroaded into the third house, and after that you can choose any of them again.
