That aside, during Cookie Odyssey, I was **convinced** that soulstones we're going to come into play somehow, it was like my major theory during ch.2, and nobody could convince me otherwise but it never happened. Giving the soulstones an in lore explanation would've been fricking awesome imo..

Can we get some HCs of the player (or their in game kingdom) basically having a monopoly on soulstones while the cookies are left scratching their heads as to not only how they work, but also how the reader got what is technically a part of their souls.

Write for anyone really, idm that much. I generally like the Creme Republic though-- whether reader is still behind the screen or knows the cookies are self aware is up to you really.

Gingerbrave is one of the least confused cookies regarding this, to be honest. Mainly because he doesn't really care enough/doesn't notice to really question it. You gather these little trinkets that make him stronger! Cudos to you from this boy.

Wizard, on the other hand, is confused as hell of this process. Where do these stones come from? Are they truly linked to the Cookie's souls? Does that mean that they are not fully themself and/or complete until they are fully leveled, even if they only materialize with twenty of them?

Wizard just wants to know. He has asked you multiple times over, getting confused by your answers and delving in deeper whenever he can. Exactly WHERE do they come from? He's obsessed with finding out by this point.

Strawberry really doesn't mind. She's a little confused where they come from, but, like Gingerbrave, she doesn't question it too much. She does like to occasionally made theories, but she doesn't really like to share them.

If you're good friends with her she may share some of her theories with you, but none of the wild ones, and only if you ask.

Clotted Cream

WHOLE ASS ENGROSSED. He wants to know everything about the soulstones. Where do they come from? How would one even 'farm' these and how does farming a soul even work?

More specifically, he is trying to find a connection between soulstones and souljam. They do almost the same thing and have very similar names- they're both linked to the soul, and make cookies stronger.

He has spent many restless nights awake thinking about this.

Much like Wizard in that he's harassing you for answers, but he does asks questions more subtly.

Clotted Cream has flipped a few tables (with occasional assistance from Financier) before, mainly when he gets annoyed enough at not having a verifiable answer to this.

Financier

It is what it is. She accepts this. She's got dragged into the theorizing by Clotted Cream.

Chilling, mainly. She doesn't really mind not care. Likely to thank you for doing your best to collect them and to make everyone, including her, stronger.

Black Raisin

Intrigued by the sparkliness of most of these soulstones. Much like a crow, she is attracted to shiny objects. Her crow friends are too.

Black Raisin has a small hoard of soulstones that she's occasionally found, of all different sorts of cookies. The sparkler the soulstone, the likelier she and/or her crows are to snatch and hoard. If the soulstone is just a pretty rock then she'll also hoard those too.

If you really need a soulstone she will likely give one to you. How often and/or how many depends on her connection to you.

She's farming them with you by this point.

Oyster

Yoinks you.

She wants to have conversations about this. She wants to know what they are and where they come from. She will offer you tea and scones while the two of you converse.

When she first found out that her stones are Super Epic, she was very proud of herself.

Probably sends you back with some every time you come visit her.

Captain Caviar

Doesn't believe they exist. They're just rocks. Nothing more.

He will stand by his claim to the death. This WILL be the hill he died on. Captain Caviar does not believe soulstones exist.

Probably has made some propaganda about soulstones being fake. Socks, hats, jackets, you name it, he's likely made it with the words "Soulstones do not exist, numbskull" in big letter on it. Except shirts.

Pure Vanilla

Very much like Oyster. Will likely join in on your conversation time and/or will invite the two of you over for his homemade tea and treats!

Most likely to understand how Soulstones work due to him wielding Souljam, which is the most similar thing to them. Also the fact he has lived for a long time and has gathered many knowledge on the subject.

Probably has a book on the subject somewhere.

He likes to sit and watch the Ferris Wheel Landmark rotate. He likes the motion.

Since he became a star, he knows a lot of people and he enjoys the popularity and attention. He loves hanging out with people and making connections. However, he's very careful about inviting more people to his close close friends circle.

🎮 VIDEO GAME CONTROLLER — what are three of your oc's favorite hobbies?

Besides making music and everything related to that, he likes to play videogames (he's not very good at it, though, but that doesn't mean he's not having a good time). 

He likes playing board games with his family such as Monopoly, but he gets really competitive and would do anything to destroy others. Also, earlier today I was thinking about how he'd totally have DnD sessions with his friends. I don't know much about DnD but from what I do know, I can imagine their friend group having great time with that.

Does partying count as a hobby? I don't know, I'm not a party person. But Tyler is, and he really loves being around people and celebrating whatever is there to celebrate.

This isn't really a story fact but originally way back in 2016-17, Tyler was supposed to be a closeted bi cis man…who would really pass a lot like just a straight guy. Yeah. I don't know. Look, it helped me alongside my own discovery journey, even though the idea of straight passing Tyler now makes me laugh uncomfortably 😂 Not too long after that, I figured he would be out and proud and loud. As for the gender, I genuinely wouldn't be able to tell you how we ditched it, I don't know, it just so happened one day that it felt right that they're 🤷‍♀️ about gender and pronouns and all that.

Speaking of that, and I know I've said this before a few times but I'll just mention it again, yes he's very 🤷‍♀️ about gender and pronouns and gendered terms, but when it comes to family names, it's just masc terms. Husband, dad, brother etc, never anything else.

And this one I'm not sure if I've ever said, I don't think I have but it's probably obvious, Tyler is autistic and ADHD. His huge special interest is 80s rock music, he's literally a walking encyclopedia of that era, you would think he lived it but no. knowing almost nothing abt the comics industry I've no idea how likely this actually is, but; is it possible Hasbro hasn't granted the the license to do tf comics to anyone else bc they're setting up their own in house comics company (Hasbro having their own in house animation studio sets just enough precedent for this thought to refuse to stop haunting me)

Possible? In the literal sense, sure; Hasbro are a multibillion dollar entertainment behemouth, and there would be nothing stopping them from doing so.

Realistically? No chance, IMO.

American comic markets of the sort Transformers naturally occupy given the assumed demographics at play- the ~22 page monthly release that comic shops have a near-monopoly on- are infamously a money pit that is dying by slow agonizing degrees, and even if you are the most successful non-big two publisher (so not Marvel or DC) out there, all that means is that you aren't actively going broke. (Hey, did we all see the news about IDW, by the way?) The average "successful" monthly release American comic sells jack shit compared to other industries, tbh. Marvel, in the 80s and early 90s, could leverage an issue of X-Men into sales of literally millions with the right PR boost*. Now, in a post-superhero movie world where superheroes are the default mode of pop culture, they're lucky to hit 100,000. Very lucky. You're more often seeing even some of the biggest names getting 50k or less shifted a month. For a non-big two company, you're looking at under 30k for your biggest hit a lot of the time. The exceptions are notable largely for being exceptions. (Skybound, I'll note, has had a couple: Invincible is the most notable.)

(*well, OK, the 90s also had the speculator boom which eventually caused many issues later on, which accounts for part of this. but big name comics were still selling much better before that becomes a factor, and it does not account for all of it.)

To make breaking into an industry in these dire straits worth it, you have to be sure you can compete with the biggest (non big-two) players, because anything less is a huge amount of time and effort and coordination for scant profits at best and losses at worst. (Comics are a pain in the ass to produce, at least comics of that sort; any given issue will have at least a writer, an artist, a colourist and a letterer. Many will also have some or all of the following: an interiors artist doing just pencils, an inker, a dedicated colour flatter, a layout designer, backup artists and writers...) And. Well. Why would you? That's a bad deal! Plus, Hasbro would have to pump out quite a few series to make it worth it, and while they do theoretically have the IP to do so, they've never focused that much on comics and would be starting from the ground up for most of those franchises in an industry where again, "success" does not look like a lot of money. (And they haven't even pulled all their licenses from IDW; many of their IPs still sit happily with other publishers with no sign of that changing.)

The flipside to this is the place where American comics are doing much better; publishing graphic novels in bookstores, not monthly releases in comic book stores. But if you have a big, recognizable IP, the thing is, now suddenly the traditional publishing industry handles that. Sure, there are dedicated comics publishers in that sphere, but if you have a guaranteed winner of a pop culture franchise, HarperCollins and the like are interested. And there is no reason not to go with one of the big five conventional book publishers then, because they have SO much infrastructure in place that it would take you years to even begin to catch up... and you won't anyway, because that infrastructure exists because they publish so many books a year that they can sustain massive publishing empires that make publishing those graphic novels comparatively trivial, which no specialist publishing outfit can hope to reach at a smaller scale.

What it boils down to is: getting into the comics industry when you don't have to is a bad idea and everyone knows it. Outsourcing to the people already established is overwhelmingly the better option. If you're doing monthlies, anything else has a 99% chance of failing, and even if you manage it, you now have a ton of work and minimal profits. (Marvel doesn't make money on comics. It makes money on Literally Everything Else. Its IP makes money, it's just that Marvel's IP is historically generated through comics.) And if you wanna do graphic novels and you have recognisability already, book publishers are the obvious way to go.

Nah. They'll charge a publisher money for the license and then, if it goes tits up, all they've lost is the hypothetical profit that success would have given them, and at least they can still pocket their fee. Film and animation are different because they can bring in big money on a scale comics can't match.

As always, I recommend the Twine essay "The Problem With Comics" for a deep dive into the historical issues that caused this situation in the American comics industry.

The behzerk part of the fandom is, indeed, quite more dead than it used to be years ago (mainly because they don't really seem to hang out alone as much anymore), but i am unfortunately still quite insane about them.

Ethan used to actually be pretty vocal about how much he admired Josh, and I feel like after some time this meeting-your-idol hype just died down a little for him lool. They're definitely not as close now, but I do still think they get along, especially more recently. At the beginning of Sidemen existence they would make a lot of content with just them, which doesn't really happen now. If you never paid them as a duo any mind, for OG Behzerk content definitely would recommend the pumpkin craving challenge (Josh's channel), really wholesome and gives a feel of their dynamic back then. In more recent content (off the top of my head) I really liked them as a duo in Monopoly IRL (both versions) and Christmas mukbang (2020 + this year (Ethan is very aware of Josh's GTA roleplay lore. friendship goals)); weirdest world records had its moments too.

I have many ideas about them because I am demented, but I generally just wish they made more stuff together now 💔 When I think about them, I remember how one time when the Sidemen were asked who their biggest inspiration was, Ethan immediately talked about Josh and said that he missed him, because he couldn't be there with them. I wonder if sometimes they feel like that now, too.

I think in an alternative universe they live together in an entirely too-big apartment and after Sidemen shoots play GTA, or whatever. They bicker about stupid shit constantly, but no matter what they still choose to come back to each other at the end of the day, because they know they simply work.

I do also have a soft spot for a rekindled relationship trope, and kind of re-discovering and re-learning how the other person works after growing apart, and I think that's maybe how I see them now. I think there's a lot of tenderness in getting to know someone you used to be close with again, in both the platonic and romantic sense.

Once you start dating, it’s all of what happened when you were still friends with added kissing and cuddling and all that couple shit. Like you’ll be playing Go Fish or some shit, and when you ask him if he has any sixes, he just leans over and kisses you before saying “Nope. Go Fish, sweetheart”, making you groan before grabbing another card. Just all the shenanigans of being besties with additional lovey-doveyness.

Honestly, my excitement is immeasurable. SAHLEE is evolving...

Been a while since I watched any new ones, but yeah, I’m a huge anime fan! I actually re-watched Mob Psycho 100 last week in preparation for the new season. The final two arcs of the manga are fantastic, and I, for one, cannot wait. 

I watched Your Name a couple of weeks ago, and I’d definitely recommend that. It’s gorgeous, and the story goes to some places that I didn’t expect it to, going in. 

I could talk a lot about the movies I like - and I will, if people are interested - but it’d take a while to gather my thoughts. Like I said before, it’s hard for me to pick out favorites. 

They’re completely unnecessary - but then again, so are their glasses and headbands. It is my intuition that Sburb wouldn’t make it so easy for Players to realize that they weren’t born naturally, since they’re supposed to learn about their destiny themselves. I think they probably have bellybuttons. 

All I’m getting from it is that Life does not equal Doom, which I’m sure is too obvious to be the right answer. In other words, this is just another intriguing hint about what’s up with Aspects.

The question of probability as it applies to Homestuck’s cosmology is kind of complicated. Sburb’s lore seems to treat things like the Paradox Clones as certain outcomes, with a probability of 1, even as its multiverse disproves this. 

This is the kind of thing I really want to see more of, going forward. Just what are the real rules here?

-Keith sings in the shower. Well, who doesn't tbh lol. But I mean this guy actually hits high af notes perfectly in the shower like he's at a show. If he's in a good mood. If he's not feelin' too upbeat then he's just quiet, might just hum a little to try and light his spirits up

-Cherry has hemophobia. While not nearly as intense, it makes her skin crawl and nerves skyrocket. She won't faint at a drip drop, but an open bleeding wound uncovered might set her off a panic

-Pico likes to play solitary. He has an old deck he's had since he was a kid. He's also really good at chess and Monopoly

-Darnell has a fear of abandonment that he rarely speaks of, one of the main reasons why he's very attached to his mother even as an adult. Because of this he's somewhat become a lone wolf

-Keith knows how to play the guitar, bass, piano and drums. He comes up with random guitar solos sometimes when he's just fiddling around, often taking them and making them into songs

-He's pretty open when it comes to music genres, but his favorite ones are hip-hop, funk, grunge, alternative rock, rap and nu metal. He does a mix of original songs and covers during his performances around town, sometimes getting along and preforming together with other bands that are also there.

-While not much of a singer himself, Pico does in fact enjoy listening to Keith sing his favorite 90s hits.

-Darnell likes to collect old vintage toy cars. He has entire wall in his bedroom with shelves full of them

-He's excellent at rapping and beatboxing, however he doesn't really show it off unless he's sure he's by himself

-Keith is actually more of a cat person and Cherry is more of a dog person. That being said, if either were to get the opposite they'd still love it to death. (Also because their personalities are the opposite. So Cherry's Keith's cat and Keith is Cherry's dog. Thats why they love each other so much. I am so funny)

-Pico literally could not care about cats or dogs and which is better. He finds them both adorable anyways. He also likes fish.

-Nene has a pet snake named Dagger. Despite his name he's just a small adorable white snek keeping her happy and alive

-Darnell used to have a Golden Retriever named Sam when he was 14 as a birthday gift and therapeutic companion. He mysteriously went missing one morning shortly after Darnell graduated high school and was never found since

-Pico will often turn down friend offers and meet-ups with people who take an interest in him by claiming he's too busy and needs to walk his dead pet fish before walking away without another word (thanking to my good ol bud for that one <3)

OH WOW sure, i never thought anyone would ask tbh!! i have a passion for early appalachia studies and the history of early coal mine unions SO THIS IS GREAT!! so with 76, i guess my biggest complaint is by taking the role that the overseer wants you to take?? you're objectively taking the place of what cooperate coal mines were doing to workers.

from the wording of the post before (and mind you, i've never played 76 so take this from someone who hasn't played it first hand) you are essentially working as a hired union buster.

the tl;dr: appalachia is taken incredibly face value in FO76 and takes the side of establishing settlements similar to that of company towns, you also take the role for the overseer that is closely related to that of an early day union buster from that era where you are just going to murder everything in your path for a company because the pay is good and it's expected of you from a societal stand point.

so. THE LONG VERSION. here's the meat and potatoes;

a quick run-down-- and being VERY simplified-- for those maybe unintroduced to the history of west virginian coal mines, there was no regulation and honestly? people who had the money or authority did not give a shit even if there WAS. money talked in an incredibly impoverished area like the appalachias.

it got to the point where companies decided-- hey, fuck it! what if we made company-only towns; "Traditional settings for company towns were for the most part where extractive industries existed– coal, metal mines, lumber — and had established a monopoly franchise. Dam sites and war-industry camps founded other company towns. Since company stores often had a monopoly in company towns, it was possible to pay in scrip (a term for any substitute for legal tender). Typically, a company town is isolated from neighbors and centered on a large production factory, such as a lumber or steel mill or an automobile plant; and the citizens of the town either work in the factory, work in one of the smaller businesses, or is a family member of someone who does. The company may also donate a church building to a local congregation, operate parks, host cultural events such as concerts, and so on. If the owning company cuts back or goes out of business, the economic effect on the company town is devastating, as people move to jobs elsewhere." (source)

well, like with fallout 76. there were "unlikable poor people" in the way for these companies. these people were folks who raised issue with the whole "company owning everything". they also had incredibly high death rates as coal miners suffered from having no regulations or any safety when within these mines. there were numerous cave-ins, natural gas deaths, negligence, black lung, no proper training, hiring practical children-- you name it. there were MANY issues with how coal companies wanted to own someone down to the smallest hair. well this came to a head when some workers began to unionize or at least had to have incredibly secret meetings about it. these meetings had to be as secret as possible due to the fact that companies were hiring spies to infiltrate these towns and sniff out unions. "missionaries" were sent in to try to find people by acting as if they were looking to start a union, so they could find and report people who had the spine to speak up about their conditions.

of course, this was in the 1920s at the start of the first red scare, as unionizing was seen as a communist act and thus both companies and the police themselves (which were also hired by the company for these towns) were not only motivated by money but by the fact this was seen as an act of "treason" against america. these led into multiple massacres of these miners, workers, and anyone who decided to take up arms for their family's rights. the biggest of these in the context of west virginia being the battle of blair mountain;

"On the night of August 30, John Wilburn, a minister and part-time miner, led a group of 70 miners—including two of his sons—up the mountain. During a dawn patrol, Wilburn and four other men encountered three of Chafin’s deputy sheriffs including John Gore, an infamous mine guard in Logan County. In the gun battle that ensued, the miners shot and wounded Gore who then shot and killed miner Eli Kemp. Wilburn responded by shooting Gore in the head, ensuring that he was dead. This marked the beginning of the Battle of Blair Mountain. For the next three days, the two sides battled with gatling guns, rifles, and other firearms along the ridge of Blair Mountain. During the second day of fighting, Chafin ordered his men to fly airplanes over the encamped marchers and drop two nausea-inducing gas bombs, and two bombs filled with gunpowder, nuts and bolts. As historian James Green describes it in The Devil is Here in These Hills: West Virginia’s Coal Miners and Their Battle for Freedom, “Something extraordinary happened on Spruce Fork Ridge that day: American citizens were being subjected to aerial bombardment on their own soil.” (source)

note, this is not the only massacre that happened over some unions. there was also the matewan massacre, and not to mention targeted attacks on people rallying for unions that will never be counted as massacre in of themselves.

so if you're seeing the parallels here, a lot of this sounds similar to your player character role in FO76 in my humble little opinion! finding these poor, impoverished people to only slaughter them or scare them away from things they rightfully worked for, let alone if they are teamed up in their own communities.

it sounds JUST like how these companies forced numerous natives from their lands just to harvest coal, and then hire them to pay to live on THEIR OWN LAND. (i want to bet that there's settlement mechanics like in FO4, that you can potentially 'take in' these folk who have already lived there to live on your settlement.... which if so, are you fucking kidding me???) wanting to "reclaim" appalachia (as the overseer claims) is not only INCREDIBLY tone deaf to the massacres, suffering, and is just absolutely SUCKING on capitalist toes, it is disregarding to numerous poc and impoverished appalachian families that had no choice but to do this or have everything taken from them.

it is completely missing the point of WHAT IT MEANS TO BE APPALACHIAN and what that history includes.

So some people are @’ing me (sorry, inbox is still closed and my IMs are a Nightmare atm so I’m largely avoiding them while I try to work) wanting to know how the Scots Wiki thing could have gone on for so long without anyone noticing, and tbh, there’s several factors at play here.

One, Scots is a marginalized language (and I will not argue this point. It is a language, not a dialect of English. If you’re going to argue this with me then save yourself some time and fuck off now.) that is primarily spoken, so it doesn’t surprise me that people didn’t even realize the website was a thing. We’re not used to seeing our language written down, and those of us who are, only ever see it at academic levels. Or y’know, Scottish Twitter. There’s also issues regarding dialect, and how there’s not one true form of Scots, so wrangling a project like Scots Wiki would require massive effort on behalf of people who both know it, and are technologically savy enough and have the time to do so. Which is where point two comes in.

Namely that up until recently, Scots was not a part of any official curriculum. We were banned from speaking it in my school, and often told to “speak properly” if we lapsed too far away from Queens English. Scottish Literature only became a thing when I was in my final year of high school (15 years ago), and even then it was an elective and not compulsory. You could choose to study your own language in your own country if you wanted to. But the only books you could read were things like Robert Louis Stevenson and Rabbie Burns. Hardly conducive to the study of contemporary Scots as a living language. I only actually got to study it linguistically when I was in my second year of university and opted to take it as an extra class, and the department was constantly underfunded and struggling. They still are. 

My parents were certainly never allowed to study it, and while I was merely scolded for sounding “uneducated” by my teachers if I used Scots words in the classroom, my dad tells stories about corporal punishment being doled out to instill a sense of fear around using it instead of “Proper English”. So while I still spoke Scots at home with my family and friends, there was also a deep sense of shame about it. I was sent for elocution lessons, partly for a mild stutter, but also to make me sound more British. Because my parents knew, they knew if I wanted to get ahead in the workforce I needed to sound less like myself and more “proper”. And I didn’t really realize how right they were till I got a job working at an English based publisher who were surprised to find out I was Scottish. Apparently I “sounded much smarter than that”.

And the microaggressions didn’t end there. It came out in the form of things like “you’re surprisingly thin, I thought all Scottish people ate deep fried mars bars” or making jokes about Scottish money being fake so they could pay me in monopoly money if they wanted to. (Legal tender discourse explained.) They used to refer to me in the office as “the smart” or “civilized Scot”. Usually before they laughed and handed me off to some American writer who needed help unpicking the mess they’d made of their Scottish dialogue. And I would smile and nod and grit my teeth, because it was that or make a fuss and potentially risk losing the only career job I’d managed to get because they made it clear over and over, there were plenty of people who could do my job.

Except there isn’t, not really. Oh there’s plenty of folk who speak it and could have a fair crack at it. But there’s not many actual Scots Linguists. Certainly not enough to save a language. I don’t even qualify as one. I just studied it for two years out of sheer interest. So things like the Wiki project rely not only volunteers, but on people being aware of it. And as mentioned, there’s very good reasons for Scottish people to either not know it existed, or to not want to be associated with it. The Scottish Cringe is very real. And it’s the end result of generations of cultural death and the insidious mantra: “speak properly” repeated over and over again until part of you believes it. I still code switch if I need to do something like talk to the bank or talk to a client. I tell myself it’s because I’m living in America and I want to be understood. But I did it before I moved here. I did it while living in Scotland, because I knew having the “proper” accent helped.

So yeah, the idea of a brony destroying a Scots based wiki with nonsensical gibberish sounds funny. But only until you realize it’s part of a broader problem rooted in systemic cultural and class warfare. It’s also why it’s no very funny when people post things like “what language is that LOL” under Scottish media, because the answer is Scots. And it’s dying.

Edit: I also shouldn’t need to say this, but seen as how this is tumblr and we are in Hell: if any of you take this post and use it to play oppression Olympics with Black and marginalized people I will manifest in your home like snakes, rip your spine out through your toes and beat you to death with it. Our history of oppression does not negate the harm we do. If anything it means we ought to know better, and the fact that we don’t is beyond reprehensible.

reading your tags about a breakup-during-a-blackout-double-date and ohmyyygod that would be hilarious. mainly for at least one person to be in the background with the "yikes 👀" expression tbh XD

akjhdsjsh alright this is how i see it:

eddie's on the verge of breaking up with ana but still figuring out how to vocalise it. buck thinks the four of them should double date since, "we're best friends, eddie, shouldn't we be friends with each other's girlfriends too?" except buck is trying to overcompensate to the nth degree and doesn't really want to do this either.

cut to an extremely awkward dinner scene where no one knows what to talk about. ana's uncomfortable. eddie wants to die a little. buck is scrambling for conversation topics. taylor is drinking wine and watching this all unfold with an air of detached amusement. anyway the power goes out, right, and for ease we'll just say this dinner is taking place at buck's loft.

so buck and eddie go straight into firefighter mode - finding buck's emergency flashlights, lighting candles (in a safe contained manner), knocking on all of buck's neighbours' doors and telling them to stay inside until the power comes back/making sure they have enough supplies etc. eddie is also extremely worried bc chris is staying with abuela and he can't get through to them bc he's got no signal.

(*insert buck reassuring him like during the earthquake parallel here*)

anyway when they make it back to the apartment there's nothing for the four of them to do but...wait. ana tries to reassure eddie about chris but it doesn't feel half as comforting as buck's comments do. buck is seriously considering asking to play monopoly by candle light until taylor suggests a drinking game instead (never have i ever or something idc) and that's when the Revelations start to happen and i'm feeling.....hmm......similar to the ep of new girl (1x15 Injured) where nick hurts is back and they end up staying at the beach all night, we get different conversations between the different combinations of them, one of which is eddie and ana's relationship ending but also all deep and meaningful in their own way

and then y'know, i was thinking how we've never really gotten an eddie voiceover before and it would be a very apt time for him to have one!!!!! again like i said, all about the light and what seeing the light means metaphorically etc. and then maybe just one teeny littler lingering look at the end of the episode, y'know. as a treat :')

The ways in which life pervades and eludes death, the ways in which they endure all manners of small and large deaths within their lives.” -- if you don't read any other fic on this list, i hope you read this series bc holy shit it’s breathtaking. harry’s a recovering addict, draco’s recovering from abuse, and in a cottage within the forbidden forest begins an unlikely partnership as the boys take up the tedious work of healing. there are thestrals and everyone's in therapy. there are whole chapters of cottagecore drarry. it's a beautiful exploration of how we bare the immensity of loss against the miracles of birth and regrowth.

Yours to Keep by @dracoismytrashson​ - 135k - E i love the university setting, i love getting to see harry and draco’s first forays into a real LGBTQ community, the class and race structures outside of the wizarding world. i love that this is the context in which they’re allowed to confront the shittiness of PTSD, anxiety, depression etc. as they come together and fall apart against each other’s traumas. it makes the ending feel earned af. “Baby, we’ve been easing into it for a decade.” -- my god this line

Away Childish Things by @letteredlettered​ - 153k - T  this fic is devastating. like, completely forget whatever reticence you might have towards a de-aging fic and read this. the de-aging premise allows the author to cut through the ways harry and draco hold each other at a distance and you end up with these stunning moments of clarity where they’re truly seeing each other for the first time. and suddenly everything makes sense. i won't spoil it here but there’s a scene towards the end where harry is talking to hermione and ron about realizing the first time he felt what its like to be loved and I fucking SOBBED. an all-time fave fic about learning how to belong.

Had To Be You by @lettersbyelise​​ - 59k - E a genuinely excellent slow burn about absolute fucking morons who refuse to express their mutual love over the course of literal years?? HOW MANY TENDER MEET-CUTES DO 2 GAY IDIOTS EVEN NEED. a car ride a bookshop a street corner -- when harry met sally is my enemy. but you know what? this fic is masterfully written, it’s an epic tale of unexpected friendships and the inability to say the things we feel. also its very much also a soft boi fic if not for the Major Fuck Up that pushes it into drama territory for me. so worth the turmoil tbh.

Hurricane by phrynne - 120k - E auror partners terrified of love. it’s a fic about walls - where the emotional landscape of this fic is occluded by dishonest words so you feel the tension play out in hollow voices, shuttered looks, emptied eyes. it’s like watching two ppl get flayed alive in slow motion and everything is SHIT for a little. it’s mean, it’s ugly, it doesn’t let you give the characters an out when they’re being cruel - to each other and to themselves. but harry and draco are two violent forces hurling toward each other’s walls and the inevitable reckoning comes and it’s so very worth the ending. the hospital bed scene to rule all hospital bed scenes.

Returning Tides by @zigster-ao3​ - E  “Is my timing that flawed? Our respect run so dry? Yet there's still this appeal That we've kept through our lives” --those fuCKing ian curtis lyrics in the summary!! p a i n. why do i put myself through getting-back-together fics knowing full well i’m gonna be Sad As Hell during the not-together portion of the story?? we are all unfortunately hoes for heartache. anyway this fic is beautiful. draco’s a dad and recently widowed, harry has a thestral reserve, the settings here are stunning. a story about grief and love that lingers.

but oikawa is not someone that just opens up to anyone yk? he’s very selective. it takes a while for him to trust you

but you live in the same house so it’s inevitable 

it’s not that he avoided you per se but he kept your interactions to a minimum 

which had been fine by you! he was respectful of your privacy, did his part to maintain the house while you did yours, etc

but he’s so good at lifting up his legs while you vacuum <3 

literally if you leave for the weekend you come back to an unrecognizable home 

the amount of shit he’s broken bc of volleyball like literally go play anywhere else 

overall he’s a great roommate because he’s both respectful of your boundaries and genuinely really fun to have around

already said this in the tags - my memory is crappy so I genuinely don't know but also I feel like I don't have an immediate impression necessarily? Like I need to observe and take in what I see first before really having any thoughts lol

Obviously, he's become a lot calmer in comparison to the beginning of the story, and what impresses me the most is that no one told him to change - that was all him. Endvr could never. Especially because he's still a teenager? Damn, I didn't have that much character development as a teen lmao. Setting the bar really high there, king explosion murder

Favorite moment

Every time he insults Endvr, obviously.

Him suggesting that Dabi likes boiled udon. Not just because it shows that he and Shouto are friends and that he pays attention, but also because it's just such a mood to have headcanons about Dabi and think about him<3 Bakugou Dabi stan #confirmed

Also how he handled the kids during the remedial course arc was really sweet and I think it kinda also shows that he can understand why people are acting up, so maybe he can do that with the lov too...

Idea for a story

This kinda already happened in Smash but anyway - Bakugou vs Shigaraki gaming session. I want to see them play Monopoly or some other game that gets really heated. Maybe Wii Sports? And yes, several TVs will be broken during this.

Unpopular opinion

Tbh I don't really know what opinions are out there about him, therefore it's hard to say what an unpopular opinion would be. But I disagree with anyone that tries to claim that he is somehow the same as Endvr. Yes, obviously the parallels are there, but so are the differences and unlike Endvr, Bakugou has actually had character development and is now nowhere near similar to him, some people are just haters.

Favorite relationship

Todobaku, obviously. I don't even care in what way I just like their dynamic and think there is even more unlocked potential there if Hori wasn't a coward and would have someone in canon finally point out that Bakugou's mom is abusive and sucks<3 And I think Shouto being able to relate to a situation like that could help him come to terms with that, or rather, they would both help each other come to terms with that since Shouto has always been focusing on his family members' suffering and never really viewed himself as a victim yet so I think they would both benefit from talking about that.

Favorite headcanon

That he will get along really well with Dabi once he's saved! Bakugou deserves a big bro and I think Dabi would see right through him and quickly treat him like his little bro without giving Bakugou a chance just like Shouto lol (not to mention they have the same hair, they're clearly related anyway). Can't escape the Todofam. He'll also exchange recipes etc with Fuyumi and the two of them will have cooking sessions. Guess who'll provide the soba and udon in the future lmao! He'll obviously also get along well with Natsuo and Rei :)

LEVERAGE REDEMPTION 1x15 THE MUDDY WATERS JOB

- i can't believe this is the first part of the finale already. @cminerva and i have been speculating about the finale since the episode titles + descriptions were released. well, since before that, really, but the titles and descriptions gave us so much fodder, oh god. my prediction was that they'd do another first/second david job that would wreck us completely. so. you know.

- i watched all eight eps in a row, the night they were released, but @cminerva only got to watch the first two, so i had be very vague and spoiler-free in the texts i sent her when all i wanted to do was YELL, but once i got to the finale, i couldn't possibly be vague anymore, so i stated typing up my reactions in a notes file. that's gonna be super useful for this post now.

- ok let's do this! harry's daughter sneaking out, interesting start. harry's ex is beautiful. but jesus she REALLY traded down.

- harry delivering their mail. :') and eliot fixing the place up. EVERYONE IS SO AT HOME AT THE BASE. 😍 omg sophie's wearing a shirt that could definitely belong to harry.

- uhhhh wasn't tom baker nate's alias? side-eyeing the writers tbh. miss river song—hardison c'mon. LMAO TEDDY BEAR. harry and soph are so delighted, i love it. fjsjfhskdjfjjdjdjd "MISS SOPHIE DEVEREAUX, FROM ALL THE WAY FROM ACROSS THE POND!" harry your accent is ATROCIOUS. but THEY'RE FLIRTING!!! - nooooooooo. sophie can't leave. SHE CANNOT. ugh parker's reaction is everything. she loves sophie so much and has been fighting to keep her with them since 1x01. and i don't think sophie has realised how much it really means to parker to have her there.

- i also live for harry's reaction. he's so crushed because he thought they had something. not the something he wants, but a friendship, at least. and she just talks so casually about leaving them all behind it crushes him. you can actually SEE his heart breaking.

- and then later he sends parker off with eliot and specifically assigns sophie and himself to a task, TOGETHER. i'm guessing he either hopes he can change her mind or, failing that, he wants to spend what little time they have with her before she goes.

- but first, harry's daughter shows up. lmao because she used the tracking app harry tried to sneak onto her phone to track HIM. :') i like breanna's nerd girlfriend, but if they'd made becky a few years older, breanna would currently be falling all over herself trying to impress HER instead. (yes, this was originally on my wishlist for s2. also yes, i am okay with not getting it.)

- "he never did business with really bad people like—" - "...like i did?" CALLED IT. @cminerva and i figured the strain in their relationship would have been harry's work, and not just the many hours of it, but more that he defended so many evil people. "i get it." oh maaaan it KILLS him to know his daughter thinks so badly of him. because he IS a good man, at his core.

- "what, was the monopoly man busy?" gjajfjskfjekd PARKER!!!

- lmao harry defends ethan so eagerly, sophie's little smirk makes me think SHE thinks harry and ethan might have been an item. before he drops the bombshell of ethan being married to harry's ex, that is.

- breanna going on strike is... idk, i'm torn. it's obviously mostly played for laughs, giving harry and sophie the task of hacking (😂), but also, the last time they weren't sure what to do, they voted, and the majority won. there was never any talk of strikes? it feels kind of weird and ooc to me that breanna just says no and basically abandons them, especially after harry's asked for help. and her attitude about the whole thing... not helping.

- but lmao harry planning to learn hacking from the binders. what a NERD. a clueless, naïve nerd, but a nerd nonetheless.

- "how hard can it be, hacking?" oh sophie, sweetie.

- lmfao "stupid little lawyer man." - "breanna!" - "i did something wrong..." you think, harry? 😂

- omg when eliot and parker come back to the base and ask what happened, sophie says "we (!) tried our hand at hacking", but harry points to himself while she says it. this is one of the many, many reasons why i love this character: he's so absolutely willing to own up to his mistakes—not just the big, obvious ones they're all trying to redeem him from, but just the small ones, too, and i think that's mostly noah's acting choices, i doubt any of that is scripted. it's making me very emotional because it's obvious noah loves this character, too. and the WAY he takes the blame for the things he did wrong just reinforces my headcanon of anxiety disorder harry who has had therapy.

- you REALLY left harry for this dude, grace? really? i mean i know looks don't mean anything in the long run, but jeeeeesus. this dude doesn't even come across as a good guy.

- lmfao parker carding harry i cannot. "oh look, he's human." i love her.

- that red top on sophie looks amazing. my wishlist for s2 had her in another red dress, but i'll take this, too. red on sophie is just... [chef's kiss]

- OUCH. that ethan guy is a piece of work. "i believe in being civil." okay two things. a) i like that harry doesn't, idk, hate his ex and that he didn't make it hard for her to leave and find someone else, someone even he considered "better", cause even back then, he KNEW what he was doing was wrong. b) but also, this "being civil" thing i think might just have been another symptom of his attitude of "never picking a side". it's a really easy way to make sure nothing ever touches you, that no one can ever blame you. if he HAD fought for his ex and made it hard for her to leave him, she could have thrown that back in his face. by staying "neutral" (or as he calls it "civil", cause lbr, there is no true "neutral" in a breakup like that), he made sure none of the immediate blame could fall on him. SHE left him. SHE asked for a divorce. stuff like that. but he knows now that it was precisely that, his INaction, that put the final nail in the coffin of his marriage. which ties in very nicely with what he says to sophie in that one scene in jackal job.

- "probably doesn't hurt that because of me, you don't have to pay alimony or child support." YOU LITTLE TWAT. harry has made a LOT of mistakes in his life, but i don't believe for a second that he would've minded paying alimony, let alone child support. i mean, he's a lawyer, for god's sake. if he'd wanted a pre-nup that would've kept him from paying alimony, he probably could've had one. and we KNOW he's loaded. and especially now, he no longer cares about the money. i mean, he's been living in a room in a slightly run-down old theatre with four housemates, basically, instead of staying at his presumably huge and fancy own apartment or house.

- another "sophie". i want harry to say her name all the time thanks. 😭

- EVERYONE EATING TOGETHER AGAIN! lol i can no longer watch these guys (or any other fictional characters) eat chinese food without thinking about the audio commentary for the original show. 😍

- oooh good plan, parker. you go to the platform and take eliot and breanna with you. it'll give harry and sophie some time alone. 😏

- "the security of my family" u g h harry listen. your daughter is your family, OBVIOUSLY. but your ex is not. if anything, this TEAM is your family now. this is what @cminerva i were afraid of, that by making harry's ex's husband a bad guy / mark, the writers would open the door for harry to go back to his ex. and i'm 100% against that, and not only because i ship h/s. that's not even my main reason, actually, though i will admit it plays a big role. no, the main reason is that harry is a different person now. and going back to his ex would throw him back into a life that he once had but left, even just by NOT acting when she left him. and if he's back in that situation again, well. it's very easy to fall back into old patterns once you're back in a familiar environment, isn't it? i'm not saying his ex would drive him to doing bad things, or that she did that when he first went crooked. no, that was HIS choice. but thanks to harry and now ethan, she's always had a certain standard of living that she no doubt wants to keep, and harry would fall over backwards trying to make that happen, and lbr, these guys don't exactly make money from conning bad guys. as far as we know, the original team still lives off their one big score from nigerian job, personally. hardison probably makes sure leverage international has some income for bases and clothes and props and whatnot, but personally, i doubt these guys would take so much as a penny from a mark if that penny could instead go towards helping people. so harry has not had any official income since the beginning of the season. he probably has assets that generate income for him, but the money he got from being a lawyer was probably his main source. and he'd want to make his ex happy, so he'd probably slip back into doing bad things, and i DO NOT WANT THAT FOR HIM. my little baby thief who's been working so, so hard on his redemption.

- SOPHIE WITH A PONYTAIL. i was so looking forward to this and it's just as hot as i expected. what is even hotter than i expected is that PINSTRIPE VEST SHE'S WEARING.

- lol i have absolutely no notes about this upcoming h/s scene from the first time i watched the ep, so i'm guessing i was too overwhelmed.

- "when i lost grace, i reconciled myself to the fact that i lost her to a better man. a decent man. maybe i didn't deserve her." OUCH. and exactly what i suspected. there's no way that this wonderful, wonderful man doesn't have anxiety over all the bad things he's done.

- "is that it? have you been seeking redemption for grace and becky?" GOT IT IN ONE, SOPH.

- "if you can't use the law as a guideline to show you what's morally right and wrong, then what do you have?" a) leverage asking the TOUGHEST questions since 2008. b) he's not wrong. c) i don't think i can imagine HOW hard it must be for him, this whole redemption process. i mean, he knows he did the wrong things. but how does he know that? because it FELT wrong. and because he saw other people's pain. and then because the crew has been telling him. but the law, the thing he's spent his entire life on, tells him the exact opposite. so all this time, all these months now that he's been with the leverage team, there has always been a part of him that has told him what he's doing NOW is wrong. because it's against the law. and i think a part of him is always going to be struggling with that if he stays with the team.

- "mr. wilson, i think you need to recalibrate your entire thinking about morality. life isn't always as clear-cut as we'd like. life's complicated." THIS IS IT. THIS IS THE DEFINING QUOTE. OF THIS ENTIRE SHOW.

- "how did you recalibrate your thinking about morality?" - "well. there is honour amongst thieves. i started there." i am SOBBING. i know this episode and this entire season really is about harry, but my GOD. sophie has grown SO much, since nigerian job obviously but also since the end of leverage 1.0 and even since the beginning of 2.0—so, so much. talking about harry and his arc comes to me fairly easily, but talking about sophie is just. hard. she means so much to me. i might come back to this in another post. i do want to talk more about her arc in this entire season.

- on a more shallow note, JEEEEESUS gina is gorgeous. and idk if that was a coincidence or ~filming magic, but it's overcast in this scene EXCEPT for the moment when sophie says "there's honour amongst thieves". it's not a lot, but you can tell that the sun comes peeking out for that one second and hits her face and she just GLOWS. JFC.

- also i know it probably doesn't mean anything, but when sophie leaves, the way harry turns and looks back at what i assume is his old house (i.e. his ex and his old life), then turns back to sophie and looks at her and then walks after her DOES THINGS TO ME. it could be such a beautiful metaphor for the way he's being torn in half.

- awwwwman, the kids talking about sophie leaving. "she's gotta find out who she is." !!!!!! I JUST!!!!! i think i've got something about this in my "yell at @cminerva" notes for the next ep, so i'll just. stop for now. but i have all the feelings anyone has ever had about this.

- nooooo i think harry just got all dressed up to meet his ex. GDI WRITERS WHAT ARE YOU DOING.

- harry doing actual lawyering in court? HOT AF. i don't have a secret thing for lawyers or the law, but watching someone—anyone—be super competent is always crazy attractive. (yes, this show makes me sweat a lot.)

- lmfao "how did you meet the missus? was it romantic?" what this episode DESPERATELY needs here is a flashback to the first time eliot saw sophie, playing lady macbeth in chicago back in nigerian job, and a shot of his horrified face.

- ugh harry don't run after grace. if this were any other show, or fanfic, grace would now ask harry about that gorgeous woman in the red dress. "oh grow up, harry. what did you think was going to happen? i was going to leave him and come running back to you?" wow maybe it was harry who deserved better all along. yes, it was naïve and frankly wrong of him to assume or even hope for this. but it was a GENUINE hope, a genuine wish, and i can't blame him for that. if he really HAS been trying to find redemption so his ex would come back to him (which i don't think he has—maybe that was part of it for him, but he's been wanting to be better for himself, too, and above all, for his daughter), it's going to be even harder going forward, knowing that outcome he hoped for isn't going to happen.

- "where's harry? all his stuff is gone, he cleaned out his room." oh shit they're doing it THEY'RE REALLY GOING THERE THIS IS FIRST DAVID ALL OVER AGAIN, ONLY IN REVERSE. oh jesus christ i did not expect this.
