UU Week Day 6, Favorite Quote
"For my life's savior, and his impossible dream, I shall lend my voice. I cannot voice my true wish of stopping him in this plan"
You can't even begin to comprehend how feral I went the first time I read Tella's Tanka. It changed my brain chemistry, it was what cemented him as my absolute fave, way before the Negators war. The loyalty, the devotion UGH.
And I wrote a little 100th loop BillyTella fic related to the quote:

My NH Fair Wrapped!
I messed up my first draft and had to start over 😭
Tumblr media
My favorite, favorite post has to be @nh2022's Creator Spotlight on Katarinahime
I loved how Des put together all of the tributes from Tumblr and Twitter. I don't regularly go on Twitter, so I loved seeing what others had created.
Tumblr media
In no particular order, I loved
🧡 Day 10: Cultural - I love seeing everyone put NaruHina into different cultures!!! This will always be a favorite prompt for me.
🧡 Day 14: AU from fanmade contents - Sessakag wrote a story for shamy's art!! And lavdiiaa made an art for magmawrites's story!!!! I just live for this reciprocal inspiration in this fandom!!
🧡 Day 25: Hokage & First Lady / Office AU - just fun. So fun.
🧡 Day 28: Video game - so I've never interrupted my husband when he was playing games, but ngl the fics make it sound like a good idea.
🧡 Day 30: Bookstore - I didn't know how much I needed this AU, I loved all the fanarts so much. I need to write a bookstore au!!
Tumblr media
@golubhat's art is so cool. Something about the lines and details is really pleasing? Also @lavdiiaa's art makes me want to write something spicy 🙈
Tumblr media
In no particular order, I loved
💝 "Casualties of War" and "Make Love Not War" from "NαɾυHιɳα Mσɳƚԋ DҽƈҽɱႦҽɾ 2022" by @sessakag - Rated E, Canon-Divergent AU, Two-shot. It’s set in an alternate universe in which the attack that destroyed Uzushio failed, and in retaliation, Uzu waged war on several of the Elemental Nations. Naruto was born in Uzushiogakure and Hinata in Konoha. Prompts: Forbidden & Enemies-to-lovers.
The point of canon-divergence is such an original idea. Also I just love secret relationships, and the added dose of enemies-to-lovers makes this perfect!
💝 "The Moon Sure is Beautiful Tonight" by @happyocelot - Rated T, Canon-Compliant, One-shot. Technically, Hinata was a chuunin. Technically, Naruto was still a genin. Technically, genin were supposed to be led by jounin, forming groups of three, barring special occasions. Technically, Hinata wasn’t supposed to be Naruto’s squad captain at all for this mission. But technically, Kakashi was Hokage, and technically he could play Cupid for them. Prompt: Blank Period.
Happyocelot is a genius at writing ridiculous situations! This fic is full of humor, I smiled the whole way through!
💝 "i don't know who loves us more, me or the stars" by @secrettastemakerland - Rated T, RTN! Modern AU, One-shot. person a who wants to stargaze and person b who wants to makeout trope ft menmahina. Prompt: Stargazing.
RTN!Hinata is perfect in this. I love how sassy and in-love she is in this cute fic.
💝 "Wake up next to you" from "Some Type of Love" by @croissantsandmacarons - Rated T, Modern AU, One-shot. During their Christmas party at Kiba's place, Hinata has to confess to the man of her dreams. Unfortunately, nothing goes has planned, but isn't it for the better? Prompt: Waking up next to you.
I'm still thinking about how adorable this fic is. I love so many things about it, the pining, the flirting, the cuddling! It's probably the fluffiest fic I've read all year.
💝 Prompt: Sunshine Family - tanka by @bornonthebreakofdawn
This tanka encapsulates what we love about NaruHina. It's short and sweet. Also I love the extra effort of having the appropriate picture and border. The whole thing is so pretty and lovely.
Tumblr media
First off, obviously
💖 Day 23 unrequited by @shamylicious-blog - I'm just 😭. I'm so, so lucky that you decided to read my fic!!!!! You encouraged me so much to finish my fic, and even now, I'm so glad that I finished it. Thank you, shamy, you fill my heart with love!! (Naruto, you heartbreaker!!! AHHHH)
The rest is really hard to choose because I loved so many, but 4 more that I loved in no particular order:
💗 What about this book? by @golubhat - My goodness, isn't the background just to die for? Also the intimacy of Naruto doing almost like a kabe-don 🙈 The details of the books, flowers, clothing, everything in this piece are eye-catching.
💗 Taking a break from exercises routine by @alexis513 - This art reminded me of that Tumblr thread that was going around for awhile where artists were adding on different ways NaruHina kiss to account for their height difference. I think one person put Hinata on a stool, but no one drew them like this! I love to think that they give each other kisses as often as possible x) My other fave of yours was your masquerade one!
💗 Hogwarts by @iamdslr - This art gave me so, so much joy. Getting-caught-staring-by-your-crush is one of my favorite things in the world (i've probs written this trope at least 3 times). Naruto's such a dork lolll and Hinata loves it!!!
💗 December 14th: Yin-Yang by @achinghcarts - This has got to be one of the coolest aes boards I have ever seen. Super creative and beautiful, I love it!
Tumblr media
💓 @sessakag - I'm pretty sure everyone, all of us, thinks it's crazy that you actually submitted a fic for every prompt. How did you find the time to write. You're simply superhuman.
💓 @powerful-niya - I'm impressed with how much you develop your visualizations of your fics. From the details of the characters' clothing to your matching moodboards. I can really sense the passion you have for your fics!
💓 @croissantsandmacarons - You guys already know that you're both forever faves. Thank you, Chloe, for adding onto your French!Naruto and Hmong!Hinata AU, that story is so, so precious.
💓 @secrettastemakerland - Your one-shots this month were short-and-sweet, which is exactly what I need, I feel like I never have time to read these days. But your angsty ones could definitely use a sequel, please consider 👀🙏🏼
💓 @bornonthebreakofdawn - I know you might be like, wondering why you're in this list, but honest, I really look forward to your poetry during these events. I love how pretty you make your posts, too.
Tumblr media
THIS IS REALLY HARD TO CHOOSE. in no particular order:
💕 @xx---locketdragon---xx - I love the vibrancy of your colors. Also, each one was so cute, but my favorite was your Forbidden prompt one, in which Hinata felt embarrassed for wanting to hold hands with Naruto!! Like, yes!!!! That's my favorite shy girl!!!
💕 @lavdiiaa - All your submissions were so delicious, but especially the nsfw ones 🙈. My fave is definitely your High School prompt, in which Naruto is feeling Hinata up under the school uniform. Something about this one really makes me, like happy???? Your style is somehow, like a visual manifestation of Sessakag's writing.
💕 @shamylicious-blog - I absolutely loved all of your tributes to Katarinahime's fics. Also, I loved the pinky promise one, the bookstore one, the masquerade one, and can we talk more about the arranged marriage one? like what is the backstory for this??? I must know.
💕 @saradesuchiha - You have to be on everyone's favorites list. Your art graced our dashboards everyday, from these adorable NH fair headers to the profile picture border!!!! just, thank you. Thank you for being our NaruHina champion!!!!! You brought so much joy into our lives this past month!!!!!!! 💯👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
💕 @jengmart - Your NaruHina is so, so soft, glowy, and cute, and I just want to squeeze them like stuffed animals. My favorites were your bookstore one, your gender swap one, and The Last Anniversary one!
Tumblr media
I guess....just taking this event to heal a little. Setting aside more time to mourn, to remember, to reread Katarina's work. I'm still in shock, the grief doesn't go away, but this event was an impetus to contribute again to the fandom that allowed me to "meet" her. I was able to have fun again!! which is nice. I wrote less fics than I wanted to but more than I expected to, which is nice. I also love impromptu inspiration, so thank you again Des U for the wonderful Christmas cards.
I really hope people who may not have heard of Katarinahime before this event take the time to read her works. She was a beautiful, funny, intelligent person, and her stories are intimate insight into her voice and the values that were important to her. I cannot stress enough how absolutely high-tier her talent and skill was. Please, please, please read Katarina's stories.

Finnish Army WW2 Heavy Tanks DOWLOAD
A Sequel of  Of Great Projects about Weapons and Heavy Machinery That Used During Winter War (1939-1940) &  Continuation War (1941-1944). This will Conclude The Thanks Series that by both Finland and Soviet Union during the war. it Quite Suprising that Finn Mostly using Captured Soviet Machinery not using Germans Like they Usually do with Their Medium and Light Tanks.. Disclaimer:Due Heavy Censorship Regarding Swastika Usage in Western Society, The Details of The Tanks Are Replaced With  Roundel Instead of Finnish Hakaristi. Here We go.... ISU-152 The ISU-152 (Russian: Самоходная установка на базе танка ИС с орудием калибра 152мм, ИСУ-152, romanized: Samokhodnaya Ustanovka na baze tanka IS s orudiyem kalibra 152mm, meaning "IS tank based self-propelled installation with 152mm caliber gun") is a Soviet self-propelled gun developed and used during World War II. It was unofficially nicknamed Zveroboy (Russian: Зверобой; "beast killer")[1] in response to several large German tanks and guns coming into service, including Tigers and Panthers. Since the ISU-152's gun was mounted in a casemate, aiming it was awkward, and had to be done by repositioning the entire vehicle using the tracks. Therefore, it was used as mobile artillery to support more mobile infantry and armor attacks. It continued service into the 1970s and was used in several campaigns and countries.
Soviet KV-1 The Kliment Voroshilov (KV) tanks were a series of Soviet Heavy tanks, named after the Soviet defense commissar and politician Kliment Voroshilov. The KV series were known for their extremely-heavy armor protection during the early war, especially during the first year of the invasion of the Soviet Union in World War II. Almost completely immune to the 7.5 cm KwK 37 and 3.7 cm KwK 36 guns mounted on the early Panzer III and Panzer IV tanks, until better guns were developed, often the only way to defeat a KV was a point-blank shot to the rear. Prior to the invasion, about 500 of the over 22,000 tanks in Soviet service at the time were of the KV-1 type. When the KV-1 appeared, it outclassed the French Char B1, the only Heavy tank used in the world at that time. Yet, in the end, it turned out that there was little sense in producing the expensive KV tanks, as the T-34 medium tank performed better (or at least equally) in all practical respects. Later in the war, the KV series have become a base of development of the excellent Iosif Stalin tank.

Worldbuilding: The Struggles of Peace
Wars are big. Wars are colorful. Wars are Dramatic; at least as Hollywood does them.
War is also pretty much the default state of human beings, as far back as we can check. Yes, humans have instincts to be kind, altruistic, and caring... to others in our in-group. Those outside the group are either ignored, or targets.
Peace, on the other hand, is neither natural nor easy. Peace takes hard work, determination, and the occasional cracking of a non-peaceful skull. And it all has to be done in a way the majority of people involved can live with, or it all frays at the seams.
War and action type stories are interesting in part because you get to show how far characters can go and still be good people. Peacetime stories are interesting because your characters have to work within limits.
It’s like poetry. Free verse can be expressive, rhythmic, and powerful. But I’ve always appreciated the skill involved in expressing yourself in a tanka, sonnet, or ballad. When you have a set of rules, you have to be creative!
You also have to know which set of rules your characters are working under. Often there are several. Written laws? Professional codes of ethics? Social rules? Family customs? A lot of tension can come from a character deciding he’s going to have to break some rules to solve the problem, and he has to decide which rules can be broken, which can’t, and what price he’s willing to pay.
This is a big thing in a lot of works in Regency or Victorian settings. There are people you can talk to, people you must not, and certain subjects that absolutely Cannot Be Discussed Ever.
Except that realistically speaking they have to be discussed at some point. Hopefully before someone dies. And then social fallout ensues.
I used Regency and Victorian because those are familiar to a lot of readers, but honestly, up until fairly modern times, strict social rules about who could freely communicate with whom were common most places. And the unwritten rules you had to follow to avoid a breath of scandal or be ruined - meaning eventually dead, from lack of support or work....
There’s a neat example of “working within the rules to keep peace” in the first episode of Season 2 of Zenigata Heiji (see the Samurai vs. Ninja channel). Long story short, a ring of thieves figured out ways to implicate respectable shops in crimes. Meaning even when the police know who and where they are and could catch them... if the gang goes to trial and any implications come out, the businesses involved will be devastated. Leading to most of the families and employees being condemned to starvation or suicide.
If only, muse Heiji and his boss, there were a legal way to catch the gang without the case going to trial....
(It’s risky, but yes. There is.)
And if you want to see the effort needed to keep as much possible peace in a society at war, I recommend the series Foyle’s War. An inspector trying to solve murders and bring criminals to justice in WWII England has a heck of a job on his hands.
One episode ends with a murderer taunting Foyle, and... well. Here’s from Wikiquote.
Howard Paige: You sound like a sore loser. You know what the French say? "C'est la guerre."
Foyle: Precisely, Mr. Paige. "It's the war." And no war has lasted forever, and neither will this one. A year, maybe ten, but it will end. And when it does, Mr. Paige, you will still be a thief, a liar, and a murderer, and I will not have forgotten. And wherever you are, I will find you. You're not escaping justice, merely postponing it. Au revoir.
Stories with action are good. Stories with justice, even if it can’t be today - those take a skilled touch.
What kind of rules do you want your characters to break? What do you want them to uphold at all costs?

something that i feel like is hard to express to other people is that. hong kong as a place and a cultural identity sort of doesn’t exist outside of the context of colonization. like of course the land always existed and the people always existed, there were hakka and hoklo and a bunch of other ethnic ‘minorities’ in the area that’s now known as hong kong before. anything ever happened. but what’s now regarded as hong kong and it as a cultural identity? that was created by colonization.
this strip of land was just. land. then it was ceded to the british for 99 years, after china lost the opium war. just… exchanging this piece of land and its people from one colonial power to another like it’s some sort of pet. in some ways it sort of is, hong kong was always the golden goose of finance. not really anymore now i imagine, but it used to be. but the point is that that act of ceding the land and handing it over to british rule was what made hong kong, hong kong. and then of course british rule changed the people, 99 years is at least two, three generations. it’s not… clear cut. i can’t speak to what life was like then. but things changed. people were westernized, english became more dominant.
i think my generation felt the effects very hard though, though i hesitate to say we felt it hardest. growing up i was spoonfed the idea of hong kong being a bilingual city, and we were taught english extensively because of that. and like, i’m grateful that i get to know more than one language; english has afforded me so much. but it doesn’t change the fact that hong kong didn’t start off as a ‘bilingual city.’ that was because of british rule. that’s still colonization. and what china is doing with mandarin is the same thing too.
i just. i keep thinking about this. i keep trying to find a way to define my culture and i keep drawing a blank. i’m culturally chinese but also not chinese in the same way someone from shanghai is because we were under british rule, but also we’re not british because we’re chinese, but we’re not chinese because we’re too british to be chinese. we’re just both. and neither. i don’t know if that even makes sense. maybe that’s not even true, because i grew up so sheltered because of circumstances. i don’t know what people usually do in hong kong, i don’t know my own culture because no one ever let me have a connection to it. but i know it has both chinese and british influences.
which, again, just. that wouldn’t be true if it weren’t for colonization. there is no hong kong as it is now without colonization. and the concept of indigeneity with hong kong is fucking messy too because like there were hakka and hoklo and tanka and whatever else i’ve missed, and i guess they were here First and they did tend to the land but. but i don’t know. i was never taught about this and i don’t know where i’d even start learning. i don’t know what to search for in chinese. hell, ‘chinese’ itself is loaded. hakka and hoklo and tanka all have their own languages. maybe the same script but it’s still a different language. so i don’t know how i’d even begin to learn about this. people just don’t talk about it because being han chinese is so ubiquitous and unchallenged. i’m an eighth hakkan but i don’t think the remaining seven eighths are just han but i don’t know because i can’t ask my parents. i don’t think my mom even knows. two of my grandparents are dead but i don’t know how i’d even ask. god, my family is a mess.
i don’t know where i’m going with this. it feels almost shameful to say that my entire culture was a result of colonization. i don’t know if i’m right or not, i don’t really want to be, but i don’t know how else to describe it. we’re chinese but we really aren’t, but we sure as hell aren’t british. it’s complicated. i hate how things have gone. i just know that whatever my culture is, it’s being erased.

We haven't seen much of the grand generals' childhoods, so I like to think their "playdates" were less play than one would expect. Not because that's what they or their supervisors were aiming for, but because that's what they were used to, so even without supervision they still ended up doing the same things they would've if supervised. As royals, they weren't allowed to play rough or messy as normal children would, and the only acceptable reasons for returning home covered in dirt were sparring, raising their physical limits in some way (strength, stamina etc) or otherwise honing their combat abilities. They could also attempt noh plays.
Since not much variety was allowed on that front, when they didn't feel like fighting or exerting themselves, they turned their attention onto more refined games that they could play with their minds instead. Courtesy of their backgrounds, the only games they all knew the rules of and thus played the majority of the time were heavily related to Japan's art and culture, such as shogi to prepare them for their futures as war generals, ikebana to raise their aesthetic senses, haiku and tanka to learn how to widen their vocabularies and phrase things in various ways while remaining eloquent, etc. As members of warrior families, their dreams were heavily focused on war and fighting, so the rest of the time they studied oni, tried to come up with plans for future scenarios and battles together and, as shown in the flashbacks, they also spent time envisioning how they'd fight when they finally reached the age requirements to.
Tsubasa did mention playing with dolls with Naotora so her family must've been rather lax on her, but Soma's flashbacks hint at his having been more focused on making him into a warrior from an early age. His and Tatsuomi's sparring sessions could've very well taken place simply because of the hype teenagers their age had about it, but Soma also mentioned his experiences with horse-riding in a way that made it sound as if he's been doing it for a while, he knew more than the rest of them about how bushi fight (formations, what each soul color does etc while Tsubasa and Tatsuomi didn't know this), and he was also allowed near and even owned a kitetsu motorbike, which only warriors can have and use. Not even Tatsuomi, a fellow royal his age, had one because he was thrilled when Soma asked him if he wanted to see his and go for a ride with him on it.

#Artist: FAITH RINGGOLD @faithringgold
#Art: Coming to Jones Road Tanka #1 Harriet Tubman, 2010
Acrylic on canvas
65 x 44 in.
Happy Juneteenth Black People!!! I'm celebrating today honoring our ancestors, reflecting on our journey to liberation, and learning how I can best continue the fight for justice!
In the words of U.S. Representative @coribush:
"It's Juneteenth AND reparations.
It's Juneteenth AND end police violence + the War on Drugs.
It's Juneteenth AND end housing + education apartheid.
It's Juneteenth AND teach the truth about white supremacy in our country.
Black liberation in its totality must be prioritized." (June 19, 2021)
▪︎
"Slavery.
Black codes.
Jim Crow.
Redlining.
Mass incarceration.
Every step of the way, Black Americans have been intentionally pushed back economically. A debt is owed.
It’s time to pay that debt. It’s time for reparations." (May, 2023)
▪︎

Image and caption reposted from @acagalleries JUNETEENTH
Three years ago, President Joe Biden signed a bill into law officially making June 19th, known as Juneteenth, a federal holiday as a way of commemorating the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans.
Also known as Emancipation Day, Black Independence Day, or Jubilee Day, Juneteenth commemorates the official abolishment of slavery.
Today is a day of celebration, education and reflection.
Today we want to share with you Faith Ringgold's work, 'Coming to Jones Road Tanka #1 Harriet Tubman'. It is from Ringgold's series that narrates the journey of runaway slaves migrating North with focus on the underground railroad.
As Arwa Mahdawi said in her article about Faith Ringgold, "Coming to Jones Road, Ringgold tells the story by harking back to the experience of runaway slaves migrating to the north. “Out of every awful thing is something beautiful,” she says. “As an artist I want to see the beauty, especially in situations that I can’t change and that are so prevalent.”
