If you are looking for an in-depth analysis of Star Wars as a franchise and its issues with racism, I could not personally recommend this article any more. It covers all the main eras, talks about #UnwhitewashTBB, and provides explanations as to why these stereotypes are so harmful.
I was interviewed for this article by @autistic-mandalorian.
Oh...wait, sorry, what's the situation? What do you mean? How does this work? Finn is gay but he's straight for me, but he's gay for Poe, and Poe is really gay for Finn. And I hate Poe. It's not that complicated.
This makes me so happy. It's never too late to come out or express your identity.
Edit as of Dec. 5: Williams made corrections to how his words were interpreted and doesn't identify as genderfluid. In addition he was arrested for battery in domestic dispute that his girlfriend asked to be dropped. There arent many more details that I could find.
Edit as of 2020: I'm leaving this correction up but y'all can stop reblogging this now. THANKS
The moment in Episode IX where the camera cuts to the giant frowning slug after the two-second gay kiss isn't real but if we push for it we can have Disney release a new edit where it is
I like to imagine them getting married on Naboo. This is the ending they both deserved. Both happy, together, and very much alive, on a beautiful planet with a beautiful future ahead of them.
Not Ben dying and the movie ending with Rey alone on another desert planet barely better off than when the trilogy started.
Say whatever the fuck you want about kylo ren/Ben solo/ star wars.
HOWEVER, no matter who you are, we all have to agree that this smile
This smile is so amazing. Adam is normally a very serious person, the cast even said that he rarely smiles, so each smile is cherished by his co-stars, and now I understand why.
This man's smile can cure my fucking depression if just for a few minutes, it is soft, warm, innocent. I feel like I'm seeing a completely different person and I'm not even seeing his whole face.
So, in the end, love or hate the character but acknowledge how great of an actor Adam driver really is. And how amazing his smile is.
Disney won’t allow a canon gay couple like Finn and Poe in Star Wars but they do have time to shoehorn in a kiss between a 19 year old girl and a 30-something fascist space Nazi who is responsible for countless deaths including his own father. Not to mention he called her “worthless” and “nobody,” tortured her, threatened to mind-rape her, physically and emotionally abused her (and her two closest friends), and tried to kill her multiple times.
