It was your first time taking a vacation together.

With the type of hectic schedule Dongmin had to maintain, you barely managed to book the hotel of your dreams for this weekend, which was actually your one-year anniversary. Two days was all you had, and you planned to enjoy them to the fullest, start to finish.

Which was why you’d surprised your boyfriend by appearing clad in a white sundress with a stylish wide brim hat to match. It was a simple feminine look, yet it set the mood from the start.

‘Wow, I’m suddenly looking forward to our flight…’ He smiled at you softly before murmuring, ‘You look beautiful.’

Avoiding his eyes timidly, you chewed on your lip to contain a silly grin. Dongmin took the handle of your suitcase to put it away in the trunk of the car.

‘Let’s get going, we have to be at the airport in thirty,’ Jinwoo’s voice startled you as the window on the driver’s side rolled down. ‘You’ll have a whole hour to exchange your lovey-dovey stares on the plane, children.’

‘Hyung…’ Dongmin mumbled in embarrassment, and you coughed, sliding into the backseat while your boyfriend’s palm hovered above your head protectively.

‘I’m older than you, Jinwoo-yah,’ you scolded, and he hummed in response.

‘Barely!’ He glanced in the rearview mirror, meeting your eyes, and added. ‘Noona.’

You shook your head in disapproval, and turned to Dongmin, who settled in the backseat with you and moved to buckle you up.

‘I can do it! Let’s not make Jinwoo cringe.’

‘Why would he cringe…’ Your boyfriend pouted, watching you tug at the seatbelt.

‘I’m fine unless you start the funny business,’ the leader announced nonchalantly from the front seat.

‘Have you ever caught us doing anything?’ You huffed, and the car was silent for a few long seconds. ‘Have you??’

‘Does hearing count?’ He asked, and your boyfriend’s eyes almost bulged out of his head.

‘Shut up,’ you laughed nervously, only half-assured that it was a joke.

‘It’s actually true. It was when we all stayed at the dorm for a sleepover. You rustle like mice,’ Jinwoo recalled.

‘What?? We weren’t doing anything fu-’

Dongmin’s hand suddenly squeezed your thigh, putting a stop to your protesting speech.

‘Please, just… change the subject, noona.’

Teasing you and Dongmin was Astro members’ favorite pastime, and you noticed from the very beginning. They simply loved making him a flustered mess. Not that you couldn’t relate – the face genius looked almost unbearably cute when embarrassed. You weren’t a stranger to teasing him yourself, just to get your fix of his adorable shy smile and his extensive nagging about how you never let him breathe.

In fact, he loved to nag. It was his way of showing affection.

‘Ah, noona… Your dress is so revealing,’ he kept whining while you were on the plane. ‘D’you know how active the sun is in Jeju? Did you apply the sunscreen thoroughly?’

The flight from Seoul to Jeju Island was rather quick, about one hour in the air. And it seemed to be over even faster since you were too busy whispering, giggling like lovestruck teenagers, and ‘oh’-ing in excitement as you looked out the illuminator.

Going on a trip with your boyfriend was something you’d been dreaming of for months now, so your mood was through the roof from the moment you woke up. It kept gradually increasing while you were on your way to the dream destination, and reached its peak when Dongmin rented a car to drive the two of you to the hotel.

‘If anything is better than this view,’ you turned away from the window to look at your boyfriend’s relaxed form. ‘It’s probably this.’

‘What?’ He glanced at you, not catching your meaning.

‘You.’

He huffed, scolding you for being cheesy.

‘What, I’ve told you this before! You look most handsome either when you’re driving or when your hair gets wet.’

‘I shall try driving with wet hair someday. Will that make you explode?’

‘Is that your goal?’ You asked, tracing your index finger down the side of his neck, which made him squirm.

‘Stop it, you know I’m ticklish…’

‘You’re not ticklish, you’re sensitive.’ You corrected, running the pads of your fingers over his skin again to make him shudder. ‘So, who’s exploding now?’

He gave you a reproachful look, and you chuckled, pinching his cheek to annoy him further.

‘Why do you have to be so shameless, noona…’

‘Don’t you love that about me?’ You asked playfully.

‘I do,’ he was quick to admit. ‘I love everything about you.’

Caught off guard by his sudden confession, you fell silent. Dongmin didn’t say things like this often, he was a bit reserved about his feelings. You actually recalled that he’d only said ‘the three words’ twice in the span of your relationship. And on one of those occasions he was actually drunk, so… yeah. He was strangely tight-lipped about it for the romantic that he was.

But you’d learned to accept it. You wouldn’t push him to do something he didn’t want to or wasn’t ready to do. So, you just said nothing before your hotel was finally visible.

‘This is great, we can just drop everything and head out to the beach! I’m living for this weather,’ you said, clapping your hands in excitement.

Dongmin nodded in agreement.

As expected, the hotel was splendorous. You noticed that while your boyfriend was checking you in. Taking those few minutes to look around, you found yourself ogling the crystal-clear glass constructions that separated the lobby and the waiting area. The outer wall was also steel and glass, so you could enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Jeju even from there.

‘Let’s go,’ a low voice called, and you followed the tall figure to the elevator.

You really wanted to give him a back hug as he pressed the button, but decided to at least wait until you were on your floor.

Dongmin took your suitcase, which made you pout, unable to hold his hand.

‘I think it’s here,’ he guided you to the door and used the card to open it. ‘After you.’

And there went your plan to give him a back hug. Up in flames.

You sighed and stepped into the room.

‘Oh!’ You exclaimed, rushing to get rid of your outdoor shoes in favor of slippers. ‘Let’s check the view! Come on!’

Surprised by your eagerness, your boyfriend shook his footwear off as well, reaching out his hand to allow you to tug him towards the balcony.

‘Oh my god, this is even better than I expected!’ You squealed, almost jumping in excitement, and squeezed his palm. ‘My hands are itching to take pictures! Come on, lean on this railing.’

Knowing better than to argue with you, he did exactly as he was told, and posed for you.

‘Ah, so handsome,’ you kept repeating, while preserving this moment in the form of a photograph.

Dongmin lost his patience in about a minute, pulling you closer to his body.

‘Are you interested in the view or in spending time with me?’

‘I see you every other day, and it’s my first time in Jeju, of course I’m interested in the view!’ You exclaimed. ‘Especially when you’re making it even better.’

He allowed you to kiss away his pout, and held you close for a selfie.

‘No, my head looks too big like this!’

You jumped in place to reach the phone, because your partner refused to take likable pictures.

‘I got it, I got it,’ he assured you, angling it to make the two of you look disproportionate again.

When you pinched him angrily, he laughed in the cheekiest way possible, begging for mercy instantly.

At least then you’d managed to finally take presentable photos.

Leaving you to admire the ocean some more, Dongmin headed back inside to unpack your belongings. You needed to change into your swimsuits if you wanted to enjoy the rest of the day on the beach.

Which is why he went missing for 6 months and we saw him going to Japan 3 times with Chanyeol in February remember? Also Baekhyun said he met Ksoo accidentally in Japan and they had a meal together. Nari's Backstory

Before 1995

Nari's parents met in university when they studied the same major, her mother was an exchange student from China coming to study business, while her father is born and raised in Australia

After falling in love, the two married as soon as they graduated from university, getting marriage visas in China and Australia for the significant other

Building a business together in medical health, it became successful to the point that they do international business with China and Japan (eventually South Korea and America later in the years when Nari is an idol), and were known for being one of the first young couples to achieve such a successful business

1995

Once the parents' business was stable and they had a steady income, Nari was born on the 22nd of October, 1995

She was born in Sydney, Australia, where she grew up for most of her life - thus, becoming an Australian citizen

She visited China when she was a toddler during holidays so her mother's side of the family can visit, which is when she began to learn Mandarin alongside English (and also received Chinese citizenship)

2001 - 2007

Nari attended Primary School in Sydney, but whenever it was the holidays, she would travel to China with her parents for their work

Sometimes she would stay in China with her grandparents while her parents travel elsewhere, though her parents always make sure to keep in contact with her and finish their work as soon as possible so they can reunite with their daughter

Occasionally, she would have holidays in Australia and be with her father's parents so she can also enjoy the life of Australia - this usually happens if her parents worry that they're bringing her around too much and not letting her enjoy the childhood that she should have

2008 - 2012

When Nari started high school, she would attend the first six months before she joins her parents overseas as their work started to become more demanding. While overseas, she would be homeschooled by the top tutors in China/Japan, and would also receive extra lessons to improve the language and how to act in public

Since her parents' business is well-known, it is expected of her to make appearances sometimes at some events so she would be trained on how to act professionally and 'noble' around her parents' coworkers and partnered businesses

Because of this, it was hard for Nari to relate to her high school classmates back in Australia as they didn't have the lifestyle she had, and was often bullied by her classmates for being 'rich' and being treated like 'royalty' most of her life. Because of this, Nari dropped out of the public high school in the last year of high school and did homeschool for the rest of the year

2012 - 2015

After completing Year 12, Nari decided to participate randomly in SM's Global Auditions after coming across SHINee and Exo on the SBS Channel in Australia on the show called 'PopAsia'

After passing auditions, Nari moved to Seoul with her parents (which is when her parents started making partner business in South Korea) and began training at SM

Due to her homeschooling which consisted of a variety of subjects that included musical instruments and languages, Nari became one of the top trainees that SM kept an eye on (also because they realised who her parents were, so they respected her), but this led to jealousy with other female trainees - thus, pushing her away from them, and instead drifting to the male trainees who would later become part of the same group

2016 - 2019

After a lot of hard training, Nari debuted in 2016 with NCT U and NCT 127, receiving lots of criticism and hate for being the only female member in NCT - on the other hand, there were some who recognised her for being the daughter of her parents, so they found her amazing for being an idol

By NCT 2018, fans became used to her and began to like her - especially when she debuted in 2019 with WayV and SuperM, because they got to see more of who she was and see the talent she had

On the other hand, there were some fans who didn't like the fact she was in multiple groups, claiming her to be stealing the attention of other members and commenting on her upbringing again

Bonus: 2019 is the year she and Taeyong began to date

2020 - Present

After covid struck the world, Nari decided to devote that time to exploring other areas such as music production which she then helped produce most of NCT's songs from that time and onwards (also choreography)

She also became interested in photography and afterwards modelling, accepting invitations to fashion shows and magazine covers

She is now considered one of the top successful idols currently being the only female in NCT/WayV/SuperM, being talented in multiple musical instruments and languages, producing music and choreographies, and becoming a model for big fashion companies. Not only that but also becoming an iconic role model for youth - especially to the young women

The makeup crew was floating around you, pampering, and pampering, and pampering. You weren’t confident that there was even the slightest chance for your skin to survive this. It wasn’t unusual – photo shoots required just as much preparation as premiere events, the close-ups being rather demanding. Still, the more powdered your face became, the heavier you sighed, imagining the skincare routine you’d need to complete afterwards.

The best you could get from your make-up artists was help with removing the layers of whatever they used so generously on your face. The rest was up to you, and, fortunately, you care enough to go through with all of the gazillion steps of the process. Cleansing your pores, soothing your skin with toners and masks, applying serums and essences, using revitalizing creams… This took you forever, and any time you decided to skip a few steps, you ended up with acne, awfully dry or blotchy skin, or even more horrendous allergic reactions.

Tonight was going to be pretty long with all of the efforts that went into your behind-the-scenes glow-up.

‘Erase that frown, your makeup will get wrinkles, honey.’

Your frown only deepened as you heard his voice.

The women carrying the inquisition tools for your poor face almost squealed as he stepped closer. Baekhyun and his stupid charms. Even the makeup artists (in their late thirties to mid forties) were on the verge of fainting out of earthly existence whenever he walked by. You could swear he gave them a semi-interested onceover and a slight smile as soon as he stepped closer.

Although you really wanted to say something dirty just to take a swing at him, you stayed collected.

The day in question was indeed long. This photoshoot began in the morning, and you kept changing outfits and settings. Today's concept was ‘honeymoon’, so you and your partner – the biggest male solo act in your company – did your best to portray a young couple having the time of their lives. And this was supposed to be the final setting. The newlyweds’ bedroom.

After the huge sensation that your pool photoshoot became, your management decided that having you do more sexy and borderline scandalous concepts wasn’t a bad idea. Easy to monetize, anyway. So here you were, waiting to get half-undressed and possibly groped by none other than your sunbae.

Kai debuted only a year before you, and was instantly famous. His dancing skill was incredibly flamboyant, so it wasn’t surprising how quick he was to capture the audiences’ hearts. He was also a well-known heartthrob in the business, although most of the stuff in the media was made up to hype him up. This was a perfect opportunity to promote both of your albums, especially riding the wave from your previous sexy shoot.

‘Did I hear you call out for me, my love?’ Your partner for the day walked into the room bearing all of the grace in the world.

‘Mine is done,’ Kai quipped, climbing on the bed next to you.

‘I certainly hope that mine is too.’

‘We’re almost finished, Y/N-ssi. Just making sure your skin doesn’t look oily in the pictures,’ one of the staff members provided.

You gave her a pointed look before someone seized your face and tilted your head backwards to examine it closely.

‘Looks matte enough to me. Let’s clear the room.’ Baekhyun murmured before repeating louder for the rest of the team.

‘How cute,’ Kai chuckled in your ear while the photographer busied himself with the equipment.

Sighing, you avoided his teasing gaze.

Kai was also a friend. And one of the very few people who knew that you had something going on with Baekhyun. Prior to this shoot, you had asked him to be discreet about it, especially since the whole topic of your relationship with the blond was sensitive. You didn’t want him (or the staff!) to get the wrong idea. So, your sunbae’s occasional ‘meaningful’ looks seriously made you tick.

‘Alright, let’s begin.’ Baekhyun finally closed the door and turned around, eyeing you with precision. ‘Stand in front of the bed, so that she could look up at you. A bit to the left.’

He took a couple of shots, mumbling something in affirmation. You glanced in his direction while he was checking something in his camera.

‘Look at him, not me,’ Baekhyun pressed playfully, and Kai snatched it away from him.

His fingers touched your face to get your attention, and you heard a few clicks.

The three of you were quick to fall into step, and soon enough you’d moved on to posing on the bed. Play fighting, hugging each other, almost kissing – all with strict instructions from your photographer. This was… exhibitionistic in a way.

Only half an hour into the process, Kai was already shirtless. Baekhyun also ditched the usual hoodie, and you glanced at the plain tee he was wearing underneath. It hugged his chest tightly and made you crave touching it. But you weren’t about to act on this impulse.

‘Show more skin. Ride her dress up a bit and put your palm on her hip. Yes. And keep looking at her like this.’

🔭 The Visions: The Overall Lore Story (as of Miracle)

A special theory post about WayV’s overall lore journey as of Miracle before their next comeback, Phantom. This post is to help me and those who are interested in the WayV portion of the NCT lore in understanding it :)

(!) This is a theory as it is not fully confirmed by SM entertainment nor the members or NCT.

I’m making a special post for this before their comeback because I FINALLy understand what really happened in their lore... at least from the information that I have. I know I am LATE to the party but bear with me because I had a lot of confusion before 😭 Summarizing from a live(?) they had during Kick Back promotion, combining it with my speculation and my past post that talks about Kick Back and their Unit Songs,

Dream Launch

From what I understand, I believe DL happened first then TO. We were introduced that WayV are supposednto be astrophysics students or space enthusiasts living together in Reality. We were also hinted a wormhole which was used in NCT2020 until 2021. The main plot of the MV, they were given a Vision from a Dream; they will be using a wormhole to go to the Reality, symbolized by the ladder they used to go upwards. They are still inside a Dream here but was given the idea to go to Reality, which was why they were looking out to Earth from an unknown location. We also have that Dream Launch Plan video series that reveals the dreams they want to come true.

Take Off

We can see that planes are the main focus of WayV’s story. Although there are some motorcyles, planes are more consistently used. Essentially, they are taking off to a new place, the Desert Dreamscape after given that vision from DL. There are some member role introduction from the WayV Character Analysis, it is pretty clear from there(?) but only Ten’s role is questionable.

Moonwalk

Kun described this MV like “landing in a new planet”, they were just changing locations to this desert. This is the same desert that NCT 127 were in in Highway to Heaven and I believe they were already there.

There were some buildings, possibly built by 127. Moonwalk’s alternate title is 天选之城, which roughly translates to ‘The Chosen City’, very fitting because this place is very vital for all Neos and where they work around in the dream world. One scene where Ten was inside a space ship, all of them were there but only he was highlighted for the dance. That’s why after it fell into the desert, everyone walked as a group. Then they explored the place which explains why everyone are in different places. Plus everything are in odd places (like the floating car) because this is in a dream. In the end of the MV, all members stopped a time using their logo... now this is still a mystery because no member mentioned this BUT there were meteorites falling in the beginning and the sky was dark then after the time was stopped, the sky became clear... perhaps they were stopping natural disasters from destroying the place? PLUS

This is the sea of Ether, the medium of connection.

Love Talk

... According to YangYang they were creating culture and civilizations. Well, the lyrics is somewhat about people connecting so they are empathizing?? I’m just gonna take his words for that.

Turn Back Time

YangYang said something happened that made them locked up, but he wasn’t allowed to tell what. One thing that is clear is they were very firm to turn back time, like as if they made a mistake and need to undo it. In some of their photoshoots too, it was as if they were imprisoned and was put into different punishments in the MV(?). Another thought, they could possibly be captured? But as well know, Ten rescued them. Lastly, of course we saw that V-shaped rooftop and the hollow city, I don’t think this is the desert one? I had a speculation that it is related to SuperM though this needs to be in a separate post for this but right now my focus is on their comeback so lets move on.

Kick Back

This happened after NCT2020 and they were in the middle of going through the wormhole, but regardless each units have their own stories too. I have explained it thoroughly that they found Kosmo in this MV in another post (🔭 The Visions: Kick Back, Low Low, and Kosmo). But IGNORE the parts where I was confused with Kwangya.

According to YangYang, from a Weibo post during Low Low era, he (along with other WayV) has reached that Kosmo but other units hasn’t. But my confusion; I’m not sure whether Kosmo is just Reality or another ‘secret place’. They have specifically said ‘secret country’ and the Reality shouldn’t be secret... though after looking at that upside down desert room in the MV again I was somewhat puzzled.

Unit Songs

I don’t think I need to talk about each one of them in detail. Low Low is clearly about Ten and YangYang going to Kosmo by a plane. We have the chip thing that they input into their phones but we’ll see that in future releases(?) Kun and Xiaojun were exploring a portion of the dreamscape place that resembles a forest. They were by the beach and as we all know the sea supposed to represent Ether, symbolizing that they are connecting with the other Neos. By the end of the MV, they ran into a light (?) which could be interpreted as a portal to go to ‘Kosmo’.

Miracle

Miracle is closely more about NCT2021 and I have talked about it in another post though I think I have new ideas now. Ten was being sus and I have talked about it in Ten’s Birthday post. They didn’t talk about the secret place/Kosmo again though we see many waves as the background which again represents Ether. Ether isn’t water but it resembles it, essentially it can form waves since it is often said as ‘the sea of Ether’. They are connecting with the other units. Now this raise my suspicion again if Kosmo really is another place or Reality. In NCT2021 they went through a wormhole to get to Reality as NCT as a whole, when YangYang said WayV has reached Kosmo was during Low Low. We haven’t seen more updates on this... especially since the unit hasn’t got a comeback until this December.

With that,

IF this next comeback (Phantom) doesn’t talk about the secret place again... I can safely assume that Kosmo could be Reality. To add to my confusion, we have never gotten a clear and official definition of Kosmo itself other than it being mentioned in 90s Love; many people just believe that it is a city/place that is advanced and simply better. I was somewhat sure of what it is before but now, after looking back at it, I have a lot of questions. But if they brought it up again, then we’ll definitely get another continuation to their Kosmo mission. Since WayV is the Vision of the Neos, it makes sense that they are ahead of the others. But keep in mind my ideas will change depending on the new info I get so there is definitely an update to this theory.

I think that is all and the conclusion to his will soon come when Phantom is released :)

I love your point about maximalism and embracing the spectacle being backbones of kpop and part of what sets it apart from other genres because I think that’s very true. I don’t listen to kpop expecting some heartfelt authentic song that I personally relate to. If I wanted that, I could go listen to any singer at almost any bar in my city sing about their depression or something. I want like an insane fantasy unattached from my regular life that isn’t about girls/cars/money, which is the only alternative reality you find in most western pop. Bonus points for insane production to go with the insane lyrics rather than just more of the same 2-4 measure instrumental motif repeated for an entire song.

(Also, gotta say - SM had serious confidence showing up in America with lyrics the level of cringe of Jopping, because a lot of Americans have way too many mean opinions that they shout confidently, especially at non Americans. But honestly SuperM’s unironic embrace of the cringe made me like Jopping even more. It’s also a crime they didn’t promote their full album in 2020 more. I know it was the early pandemic and they couldn’t figure out what to do if they couldn’t come to the US, but that album was 100% bangers and it deserved more)

exactly! even within the k music industry you can find musicians that make 'authentic' music, it's not that hard to find at all. but you cannot expect it from idol music, because idol music is a specific form of performance. idol music is engineered to be about spectacle; you cannot separate the visual element from it because it was essentially formulated for television and large scale broadcast. expecting idol music to forgo that element is like expecting the same from an opera. the point of an opera is that it is every art form combined together to make the greatest spectacle story possible, and kpop has exactly the same function, just crammed down into four minutes instead of four hours.
