I honestly don’t see Strade’s mind as complex at all! He thinks like a cocky animal, at the bare bones of it. He is strongest, swiftest, wittiest, and overall biggest animal in the room at all times, in his mind. He’s prideful. It’s why he gets so terrified by Rire, why he was too shocked by MC jumping him to care for the wound before brutalizing them, why he kills and kidnaps in the first place. Humans are animals. “Meat is meat,” as another not-so-nice man once said. 

Strade only has empathy the way animals do. Life or death empathy; otherwise he only shows compassion and sympathy, mostly for beings he considers pets. Everything else he does that shows ‘care’ or ‘love’ is self-satisfying and for his own gain. Manipulation and toying with his captive’s emotions. He’s been like that since he was a kid too. He was the biggest animal back on the playground, even if he had to hide it moreso. He sees life as a big old jungle full of other animals, most of which are his prey. If you can imagine a siberian tiger getting cocky and only killing for self-satisfaction, then you’ve got Strade. 

He’s not complex at all, at the end of it. He sees himself as an animal; a predatory animal. And MC, other captives, even Ren, they’re nothing but prey. Every good moment or seemingly romantic spark is part of the hunt! Like cats throwing a mouse around in their razor claws, letting it slip and think it’s safe for a moment before grabbing it again.

He taught that mentality to Ren, too. After Strade was ‘bested’, it shattered Ren’s current worldview. He built it back up with himself in Strade’s position. With Strade gone, Ren now chose himself as the biggest animal in the jungle. Except it was already biologically ingrained in Ren, being a beastkin. Hence why he becomes more cruel, ‘bigger’ than Strade as he gets older. Strade was never half the animal as Ren, his very own accidental protgégé

My new favorite headcanon I came up while driving with my partner: Ren has DID or OSDD. That's why the announcer can do crimes against humanity until you make him undissociate and think about it, he's a Strade introject of sorts. And why in btd Ren has clear clothing preferences between his captive self (white tank top and shorts) and capture self (Strade introject just forming? Uses Strade's shirt to ground himself) and why he can be so volatile and different depending on triggers and flat out seems to not remember his family, it was a very very different situation and maybe the alters that do remember are dormant or the memories are just completely dissociated. He literally switches from those states of being. I think it'd be mote like OSDD 1a (though the difference between different types of systems is convoluted at best, but that's another ramble) in that he has different versions of the same person in his system because in my other headcanons and in canon, his identity as a fox boy is very very important and saved his life. So his brain would probably keep that.

This is a long ramble lmao. I have DID with a slight fixation on how systems develop so this is a new brain worm and I love it. I love merging special interests. Psychology, systems, and BTD. That's my list of interests lol

Anons used to be so shocked and disbelieving that they wouldn't get to be ~ the special one ~ who I keep as a pet and fall in love with. Buddy I don't know how to tell you this but both I and canon Strade are low empathy, and the cheerfulness doesn't mean I like you. Everyone is the same to me and I tend to see people as either weaker animals than me, or if I do like you, a pet/possession. Ren wasn't my 'boyfriend' he was my fox. A pet. The thing that I owned. Forgive me for not seeing my sex slave as an equal and husband like the fandom seems to think Strade does.

MC was the same. An object with a scream and way of bleeding that was hotter than normal. I have ASPD and people special to me still aren't equals or even really human in my brain. They're cures to a boredom so deep that I can feel it scratch the inside of my skull. I understand it's hard to know you wouldn't be special to your favourite character, but buddy I'm a fictional introject, not literally Strade here to whisk you away to do bdsm and nothing that actually hurts you. It's not hot to me if you want the torture. I get off to making people scared and uncomfortable (with a safeword obviously), if you want to suck my dick I'm not going to give it to you in a way you'll enjoy.
