i am genuinely so glad that rita is with someone who respects and likes her and supports her through regaining her autonomy and her abuser is trapped in giant fishtank suspended in some kind of horrible goo

Steve Dayton and Rita Farr, pictured at the last of Rita’s film premieres that the then-couple would attend together.
A Todd Haynes picture featuring music by Mucous Membrane, Scare Tactics, and Nine Inch Nails charting the rise and fall of infamous magician Nick Necro, Rita won several awards after successfully lobbing Haynes to be cross-cast in the lead role.
Dayton was publicly supportive of Rita both taking the role as well as using her shapeshifting to embrace a more androgynous public persona, but in private seemed bothered by his “perfect” wife appearing “too masculine” in public. While this runs counter to some accounts of the couple’s love life and Dayton’s coming out later in life, the former is too lurid to recount here and the later came on the heels of Dayton’s other outing as criminal mastermind behind the Hybrid as well as his role in telepathically grooming young metahumans for use as weapons in the Caulder Institute’s Harvest Scandal.
Coupled with Dayton’s accusation of Rita’s infidelity against him involving fellow superhuman Plastic Man which turned out to be true the couple had a [do I have to read this part? It’s unprofessional (...) well I just wish we had another way to say it and still get the (...) ok, christ, you can read the next one, you’re the only one who cares if we get a thousand year old tabloid piece factually accurate, Irma. I still don’t get why we can’t just say Batman was...] full-on superpowered brawl in downtown Los Angeles. They separated that night and divorced soon after.

Star Trek is never mentioned in Stranger things so headcanon that Steve grew up watching it (he has a youngish great-aunt who took care of him when he was baby Steve), utterly convinced Kirk and Spock are married, also convinced it's old lady tv. She took him to Star Trek: The Motion Picture and like. Fifty percent of the audience was older ladies. She had zines and later gave them to him.
Dustin finds out Steve is what one could consider a Trekkie when Steve offers to take them to see Star Trek IV The Voyage Home in theatres, and he flips because, Steve, you like something nerdy!!
And Steve's like 'no?? I like an old lady tv show? Kirk takes his top off like every episode and it was on during the day for housewives. My auntie was really into it and I watched with her and she gave me her little star trek fanclub newsletters. Basically everyone working on those were women. Idk man, maybe you like something mundane.
He attempts to recruit help but everyone agrees it's very nerdy to have fanzines from the sixties and seventies of star trek and Steve is like whatever I like the romance!! To which everyone is also confused because romance is never really a big part of it?? Kirk is a ladies man, sure, but it's not super romantic? And now it's Steve's turn to be confused because 'Kirk and Spock are Vulcan married!! They got married when Spock had Pon Farr! They do the weird Vulcan hand kissing thing!! Obviously they are soulmates and obviously I would scour the galaxy for you, Robin, but I also very much do not want to make out with you which is what Kirk and Spock do when they touch hands!'
Everyone is like what the fuck are you talking about? Because Steve is a Spirk truther lmao.

Rewatching the entirety of Doom Patrol before the finale has led to some realizations, like how Rita expresses the exact same fears in 4x10 as she did back in season 1: "Larry has his spirit, Jane has Cliff, who do I have?" Only now, the problem has compounded. Larry has Keeg and Rama; Jane has Cliff, Kay, possibly Shelley and/or Casey (the sky's the limit, Kaleidoscope Jane!); Vic has his dad, Deric, maybe Roni one day; Cliff has Jane, Clara, Rory...
Who does Rita have, besides a dead boyfriend waiting for her in the afterlife who doesn't really know anything about Rita Farr, and a backstabbing shapeshifter whose self-serving cowardice even makes Rita go, "wow, and I thought I was bad!" There's not been anything at all that challenges Steve Dayton's conclusion after reading her mind, that she's a horrible person who deserves to die alone and forgotten. In her eyes, she's just as bad -- maybe worse -- than she was back then; she's never done any meaningful good to counter all the bad she's done in her life. She's spent two lifetimes trying and failing to accomplish anything, and now, dying of old age, she's decided enough's enough, time to give up.
It's not like anyone in the group can say, "Hey Rita, I know you're accepting your own death due to a lifetime of self-loathing and the hope that death will finally rid you of Rita Farr forever, allowing you to truly be yourself with Malcolm, but have you considered trying one more time? It could go differently THIS time!!"

one of my more lukewarm takes is that i do not feel particularly negatively about flex/rita. like i’m not pulling for it and i think they work just fine platonically and i personally view her as a lesbian, but if dc feels like they’ll die if they don’t give her a love interest i think the guy who helped her regain her autonomy and unconditionally supported her as he helped her navigate her powers after a traumatic experience with no expectation that he would get a relationship out of it—who isn’t in an unhealthy codependent friendship with her the way cliff and larry are—is a pretty solid choice.

M*A*S*H questions!
16 . you can pick one of the write off characters to stay on the show and develop , the others’ roles don’t change . who are you picking ?
22 . a klinger outfit you’d want to “ borrow “ ( and probably never give back ) ?
i answered sixteen already but! another character i wish we'd gotten to see more of is love of my (and margaret's) life helen whitfield! i love the depth and intimacy of her relationship with margaret—it's admittedly hurried given we only see her for about ten minutes total, but the weight of their connection is evident onscreen. similar to steve newsome, i would have loved to see helen's arc take place over a full season where we get to learn more about her, her struggles with her alcoholism, her relationship not only with margaret but with the other characters (in the episode they give her some good banter with BJ and i headcanon that they were good friends during her time at the 4077th; would also love to see more of her with klinger as he's the one who reports his concern about her drinking alone), etc.
Tumblr media
this klinger outfit is one i would wear at least once a week if i had all the pieces—there are so many iconic outfits that truly only jamie farr has the energy to pull off with such panache but this one is absolutely one of my faves of all time
