one thing that i really appreciated in tsotl that i wasn’t able to articulate until recently is clarice’s relationship with idealism, and the way that its framed: clarice fails to save the one lamb she could carry in her past, but that desire to save lives, even if it is just one, is never ridiculed within the story. instead, even in jaded circumstances in a less-than-perfect world, she saves catherine martin. there is no scene where clarice is shown that this desire to help others is foolish, no, she wins on her own terms, she’s saved that one lamb. saving one person is enough—catherine martin walks out of that house alive, and if that isn’t uplifting then i don’t know what is

maybe like four blogs ago i wrote the most insane book-focused meta about will as john the baptist and starling as a sacrificial christ figure who becomes one with god in a way john cannot and is absorbed in the process of her apotheosis—but the point is the story is about her and will’s only the forerunner, the prologue. like, i love hannibal the show and will graham is my favorite unhinged wet dog, but i’m still a little bitter starling’s story was dissected and given predominately to a male character instead of fuller just coming up with something unique for will and hannibal.

what’s most interesting to me about them has always been will’s fundamental inability to handle the work that he was asked to do and that everyone knew this but they kept asking because he’s so Special—whereas starling could handle it, being clever and hard-working and exceptional at compartmentalization, but was never allowed to do so because she wouldn’t compromise herself to get ahead. it’s stings because gender is precisely why they ended up where they did; the horror and violence of gender is so thematically significant and inextricable to the series for me. will caught hannibal almost by accident in the books. hannibal caught starling not by devising a trap for her or gaslighting her (that came later) but simply because the systemic misogyny she faced pushed her out of her career and her life, and her contempt for the corruption of system grew and grew and crystallized inside her until she was forced to make a choice—shoot the dirty cop or let hannibal be eaten by the pigs—and in making it she revealed the truth of herself: that she believed she was above the law, above the broken system, above the men who uphold it. that choice drove her straight to hannibal. he didn’t have to do anything at all to isolate her. she came for him; he just had to wait.

Ice Nine Kills Hints at a “Silver Scream 3D”

Ice Nine Kills recently brought their Horrorwood saga to an end and have promised and hinted at things to come that fans should be excited for.

In a now deleted premiere video, Ice Nine Kills debuted their newest music video for their song Meat & Greet.

The song is based off Silence of the Lambs and features lead singer—Spencer Charnas— masquerading as both Buffalo Bill and Hannibal the Cannibal.

Additionally, after the music video ends it transitions to wrapping up the story that was first started when the album released.

Welcome to Horrorwood, also known as Silver Scream 2, is played off as an album discovered by a homicide unit. Spencer is suspected of the brutal slaying of his fiancé as detailed by the albums “Opening Night” track.

The ending of Meat & Greet answers all of the questions, but after watching an post-premiere interview it seems that there may be some open ends.

Fans got the chance to ask Spencer and other key creatives in the making of the storyline questions.

Questions were asked about how the band chooses movies to base songs off of, their method of production, and various other topics.

However, Spencer had a question to ask of his own.

He asked the crowd how they’d feel about a “Silver Scream 3D.”

The crowd responded with applause, so it seems that the band plans to continue with the horror movie concept albums.

It’s quite clear that horror is one of Spencer Charnas’ passions, so it makes sense that he’d continue to push the band towards making more Silver Screams.

While fans wait for more updates, they’ll have an orchestral version of Welcome to Horrorwood releasing on October 31st to tide them over.

Also, just so everyone is aware, my best friend and I are remote, and only get to meet up in person every couple of years.

That being said, we’re meeting up in the states in October for a music festival, but we’re both not huge drinkers, so we won’t be out ridiculously late.

What we WILL be doing is renting The Starling Girl in our hotel room, stocking up on all the junk food possible, and having a live reaction of this very serious film where we throw popcorn at the screen and yell at Lewis Pullman to both stop being inappropriately hot and a pervert for two plus hours.
