I think what makes annie wilkes so scary - the scariest of king’s villains imho - is there are people like her who actually exist and who do the things she does.

you’re never going to encounter a pennywise in your life but you could end up encountering an annie.

that’s part of what makes cujo so unsettling too. rabies is a real thing that could realistically do that to a dog.
