"Mr. Mercedes"
3 temporadas. 30 episodios
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Braxton Alexander: Three heterosexual boyfriends, three serial killers, one saxophone, and five bare butts
Born in 2007, actor and model Braxton Alexander had a busy child star career. Strangely, although of course he had no control over the scripts at age eight or nine, his movies and tv shows seem overwhelmingly heteronormative, if not downright homophobic.
Tumblr media
Four episodes of Mr. Mercedes (2017) as the young Brady Hartsfield, living through the horrific childhood that would turn him into a homophobic mass murderer with psychic powers. (Left: Harry Treadaway, who plays the adult Brady)
The young Callahan in Tag (2018), about a group of friends who play an elaborate game of tag every year, while not making homophobic jokes and fielding gay panic.  The young Callahan kisses a girl. So you can have boys and girls sparking at each other from the womb, but heaven forbid depicting a gay kid.
Dolly Parton's Christmas on the Square (2020) is intensely heteronormative: the meaning of life is boys and girls gazing at each other forever. Brax (bottom) plays a singer.
The Black Phone (2021) is about a gay predator who kidnaps young boys (I'm not kidding).  Brax plays a bully, not one of the victims.
In I Want You Back (2022), a dumped boyfriend and girlfriend try to sabotage their exes' new relationships and get them back.  Brax plays a "middle school boyfriend."
Tumblr media
The Summer I Turned Pretty (2022-4) features two brothers in love with a girl named Belly. Brax plays the young Conrad, falling for Belly at the age of 13
In Black Bird (2022), not to be confused with  Blackbird, Jimmy Keane (Taron Egerton, left) is given the task of befriending a suspected serial killer to get a confession out of him. No gay subtext: the guys both display an incessant interest in ladies.  Brax plays the teenage Jimmy.
Braxton's favorite role to date is on Season 3 of The Righteous Gemstones, probably because he didn't play a young serial killer.  Art student Trent becomes Judy's high school crush.  When she unsuccessfully tries to flirt by draping her hair over his desk, he cuts some off. Later she bursts into band practice and destroys his saxophone.
Tumblr media
Then Jesse gets revenge by breaking into the school dressed as Slenderman and bashing Trent's face with a cymbal.
Surprisingly, that doesn't knock him out or kill him.  Next Jesse shaves his head and pantses him.  The other students all point and laugh. An artist and a musician?  I wonder if Trent was written as gay.
Tumblr media
Recently Brax has been concentrating on his modeling career.  Hopefully it will be a bit more gay-positive.
The bare butts (none of Braxton) are on RG Beefcake and Boyfriends

The Bill Hodges Trilogy PDF
The Bill Hodges Trilogy is a gripping and thrilling series of crime novels written by renowned author Stephen King.
Consisting of three books, "Mr. Mercedes," "Finders Keepers," and "End of Watch," the trilogy follows the relentless pursuit of retired detective Bill Hodges as he matches wits with a notorious serial killer.
In the first book, "Mr. Mercedes," we are introduced to Bill Hodges, a retired detective haunted by an unsolved case from his past.
He receives a taunting letter from a man responsible for a horrific crime: a Mercedes-Benz plowed into a crowd, killing several people.
Driven by his thirst for justice and unable to let go of the case, Hodges embarks on a personal mission to track down the elusive killer before he strikes again.
In the second book, "Finders Keepers," the focus shifts to a new set of characters, but the suspense and tension remain just as intense.
A young boy named Pete Saubers discovers a buried trunk containing notebooks filled with stolen cash and unpublished manuscripts.
Unbeknownst to him, the owner of the trunk is a deranged reader obsessed with a reclusive author.
As Bill Hodges returns to the scene, a deadly game of cat and mouse ensues, involving the boy, the murderer, and the retired detective.
Finally, in "End of Watch," the trilogy takes a thrilling turn into the realm of the supernatural.
The story follows Brady Hartsfield, the Mercedes killer, who has been in a vegetative state in a hospital.
But as strange occurrences begin to unfold, it becomes evident that Hartsfield possesses dangerous new powers and a sinister plan.
Bill Hodges, along with his trusted allies, must confront the malevolent force once more, putting their lives on the line to save innocent lives.
Throughout the trilogy, Stephen King masterfully blends elements of crime, mystery, and supernatural horror, creating a chilling and suspenseful narrative.
The books delve deep into the minds of both the protagonist and the antagonist, providing a captivating exploration of the human psyche, obsession, and the battle between good and evil.
With well-drawn characters, intricate plotlines, and King's signature storytelling style, the Bill Hodges Trilogy is a must-read for fans of crime fiction and psychological thrillers.

End of Watch by Stephen King
'He found me.'
The final chapter of Stephen King's Bill Hodges Trilogy, End of Watch, finds the Finders Keepers team once again facing Brady Hartsfield. Only this time, it's an evolved Brady Hartsfield. Most of it works just fine, and most of the supernatural aspect is interesting and creates an excitingly unpredictable adversary for Hodges and his partner, Holly Gibney. However, something just feels off, here. While the pacing is still top-notch, large chunks of the plot itself seem superfluous, and suck out some of the overall enjoyment of the book. I felt disconnected through significant chunks in the second act. Thankfully, though, everything comes together for a final act that delivers not only an extremely thrilling/satisfying climax, but also a sendoff for Bill Hodges - whose arc through these three books is as natural as it is thematically rich - that's an emotionally exhausting, pitch perfect postscript for the trilogy as a whole. And it brings Holly Gibney's arc through the trilogy full-circle, showing her complete evolution into the fascinating, likable character she truly is.
7.5/10

There's a saying... maybe you've heard it... a mother can only be as happy as her saddest child. You seem very sad to me, Brady. Almost angry, in fact.
