My favorite hobby is slowly bringing people in the fob fandom, so slow that in fact they don’t know it’s happening until it’s too late. One minute, all they know is fob is a band and few of their popular songs, the next minute, they’re neck deep into Pete’s live journals wondering how the fuck they got there
Anyone else thinking about how Pete wrote “confidants, but never friends; were we ever friends?” and “part time soulmate, full time problem” and “all your flaws are aligned with this mood of mine” and “you say please don’t ever change, but you don’t like me the way I am” and “I’m struggling to exist with you and without you” and “call you up and demand you have no fun without me” And “the chemistry is a mess, it seems” and “I got all this love I’ve got to keep to myself” and “if there were any more left of me, I’d give it to you” and “let me, let me trash your love”and “i think I’ve been going through it, and I’ve been putting your name to it” and “awash in your love, falling in and out” and “I never meant for you to fix yourself” and “baby we should have left our love in the gutter where we found it” and “give up what you love before it does you in” and most especially “what is there between us, if not a little annihilation?”. You guys get it right.
I always think about how a HUGE amount of hate for Fall Out Boy comes from homophobia and racism in the early 2000s. Like you look at old chatroom shit where people talk about why they don't like Fall Out Boy, most of what you see is "cuz Pete Wentz is gay". A lot of criticism for their music was (not explicitly, but pretty easy to extrapolate) about how they mixed punk with other, predominately black genres. IMO most modern hate for them is because people know we used to hate them but can't remember why, so they just go with it. Obviously people aren't obligated to like certain music if it isn't their thing, but I know damn well half of their discography would be ADORED today if people actually bothered to listen. The amount of people who I've shown FOB music to who were surprised that they actually liked it? They have been done sooo damn dirty, give these boys the legacy they deserve.
Fall Out Boy really said “I’m sifting through the sand sand sand, looking for pieces of broken hour glass, trying to get it all back, put it back together as if the time had never passed. I know I should walk away, know I should walk away, but I just wanna let you break my brain and I can’t seem to get a grip, no, no matter how I live with it. These are the last blues” and expected me to act normal like those words put in that order don’t fucking do ANYTHING to me at all
can’t stand when the same fob fans who hate mania to the point of it being removed from the set list talk about how overdue the folie a deux appreciation is like.. bestie you don’t deserve folie if you can’t see history repeating itself
