Literally no one asked for this but i decided to do my ranking of NPMD songs because I’ve seen some people do it on yt. I don’t post on yt and I’m shit at video editing so here we are-
This is all my personal opinions based on how much I enjoy the songs and how often I listen to them (also partly based on the scenes, choreo, etc) so please don’t lynch me, everyone’s allowed their opinions.
This was really hard for me because I actively listen to the songs from 11 onwards and I’m likely to change my mind as I listen to the album more so take this with a grain of salt. This is probably my favourite album that Starkid’s ever done.
Do not expect any coherent comments for this ranking as I’m terrible at articulating my thoughts, but just know that all these songs are incredible and they all hold a special place in my heart.
15. Go Go Nighthawks!
I don’t dislike this song tbh just very neutral towards it. I really enjoy the “fuck you Clivesdale” portion of the song but other than that, I can’t really say I listen to it. Kim and Bryce’s splits were incredible though holy shit.
14. The Best of You
This song, like many have said, is a bit too Disney channel for me. I like the scene and Steph and Pete are a really cute couple but not really into the song.
13. Bully the Bully
I love the scene for this, Angela’s choreo is brilliant and I think it’s a cute little song. The only reason it’s this low is because I don’t really listen to it outside of watching the show.
12. Bury the Bully
OKAY THIS ONE HURTS BECAUSE IVE REALLY GROWN TO APPRECIATE THIS REPRISE AND I THINK ITS BRILLIANT, HOWEVER, similarly to bully the bully, I don’t listen to it outside of outside of the show. Unfortunately cannot rank it higher than this as I enjoy the rest of the songs more :(
11. Nerdy Prudes Must Die
I’m ashamed that this is so low just purely based on Jon’s incredible “I’m not a loser” and Will Brenner’s amazing performance, HOWEVER, I’m not as into the rest of the song so unfortunately it is ranked as it is. The scene is pure genius though holy shit. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.
10. Cool As I Think I Am
I had a hard time deciding between 11 and 10 but cool as I think I am just took it in regards to the fact that I actually listen to this song in my own time. What can I say? I’m a sucker for Joey’s Bug type roles and solos. Goes to show how much I enjoyed the album that this song I actively enjoy is ranked so low.
9. Dirty Dudes Must Die
This was originally higher on my list but I have since grown to enjoy other songs more but make no mistake, I think this is a great ending to the show and I adore Angela’s unhinged performance as Grace. The “who will pray for you?” reprise coming from Grace of all people is *chefs kiss*.
8. If I Loved You
Mariah and Joey’s vocals willed this ranking into existence. I love a good duet between characters who are obviously attracted to each other but for some reason, are desperate to act like they aren’t. While I don’t believe this is the strongest love duet in Starkid history (that belongs to the way I do imo), I do think it’s a sweet and a catchy tune overall.
7. Cool As I Think I Am (Reprise)
I did not appreciate this song as much as i should’ve when I first watched the show, but recently I’ve been listening to it a lot more and it’s just the perfect combination of cool as I think I am and if I loved you. Absolutely devastated me upon first watch.
6. Literal Monster
Honestly, when I first watched the show, I didn’t like this song very much and was very surprised when I saw that it had one of the highest views out of the album. I’ve listened to it a lot more since then and it’s genuinely been the biggest change from my original ranking to this one now. The harmonies are incredible, Kim is as always a queen, Will Brenner’s section is so good idek what to say. But yeah, I really like this song.
5. Dirty Girl
I know this is very controversial as it is currently first place for my poll on people’s least favourite/least listened to song. Like most people, the scene makes me extremely uncomfortable BUT THE VOCALS !!!!! I genuinely love the song it’s such a banger and Angela and Will’s voices go so well together it’s actually insane. (I do still cringe every time I hear the words “dirty girl soup”).
4. High School is Killing Me
Probably the best opening Starkid has ever done. I’m a big sucker for group numbers so it has that going for it. Idk what else to say really, I just love the song.
3. Hatchet Town
I 👏 LOVE 👏 THIS 👏 SONG 👏 arguably one of the best act 2 openers, I am a sucker for group numbers as mentioned above and the tune of hatchet town is just so good. I particularly enjoy the chorus and the ending.
2. The Summoning
Need I even say more?
1. Just For Once
Probably the most controversial ranking I’ve ever done but SUE ME, I think this song is brilliant and a modern masterpiece. Someone said it gave them Falsettos vibes which absolutely contributes to why I love it so much but theres just so much else going for it. I could write a whole essay on the importance of just for once but I’ll spare you for now. All I’m going to say is that this song slaps and I will take no other answer :)

okay no one asked but i am doing it anyway because this is my tumblr and i do what i please! you are in my house!!!
anyway avhscc song ranking. purely based off of the song, not the performance from the show (so basically it’s by how much i like listening to it on spotify). all of them are absolute bangers, so being lower on the list doesn’t mean i dislike it. also this is only my opinion, so we can all be chill and not judge each other over silly things like the songs we like (which is something the sk fandom struggles with btw).
8. christmas day. banger ofc but a lot of it is just the other melodies, and the bit of it that is original music i’m just not super fussed on.
7. i’m the ghost. performance is iconic (ty jaime lyn beatty 🙏) but the song itself is a little bit more boring than the others.
6. three spirits. kinda same as above, the song itself is just not as standout as the rest.
5. bah humbug. this shows how good the entire soundtrack is, because this is such a good song and i love it a lot.
4. priceless. very much a bop. slightly cringey, which is why i love it, but it’s also the reason i don’t listen to it as much as the top 3.
3. christmas electricity. super fun and super iconic and super duper good. if this was factoring in performance, it would probably be number 1, because it’s so fun on stage. thank you for your service james tolbert.
2. the final ghost. literally obsessed with this song. from the very first notes you can tell it’s gonna be banging. what else can i say.
1. IF I MET YOU TODAY DO YOU THINK THAT ID STILL CATCH YOUR EYE? WOULD YOU STILL WALK MY WAY, OR PASS ME BYYYYY?
in case you didn’t get it, my number 1 song is that scrooge. britney coleman your hand in marriage please.

Alright. This may be a controversial opinion but Paul is not the Wet Cat character of Hatchetfield. Neither is Ted, neither is Richie. No it doesn’t matter that Paul is an actual cat. Nor does it matter that Ted went through hell and back a thousand times then realized he lost his house keys. Nor does it matter that Richie talks like that. Because wet cathood is about a very specific vibe. And not even Jon Matteson’s big sad eyes can earn him top spot because he’s not Starkid’s only pair of big sad “buy them brown contacts” blue eyes. That’s right, In this essay I will explain how Charlotte Sweetly is THE true Wet Cat of Hatchetfield …

The Princess Bride Musical Dreamcast
The fact that with all the new broadway musicals are adaptations and NO ONE has done the Princess Bride yet is absolutely criminal, so if that were to hypothetically happen, here's my dream cast list.
Framing Device:
Grandchild: I can't really put anyone for grandchild, since I don't know many child actors, but I do think there should be a rotating cast, like they had with Mathilda on Broadway.
Grandfather: Mandy Patinkin, aka the original Inigo Montoya.
Mother: Robin Wright, aka the original Princess Buttercup.
I think it would be really sweet and fun to have two of the original movie's cast play parts in the framing device, almost like they're passing the baton of telling the story to the next cast.
Main Story:
Westly: Joshua Henry
I don't know if this is a controversial statement, but Westly is a baritone, and I think Joshua Henry would be absolutely perfect. He's charming as fuck, he's a phenomenal actor and vocalist, and he's absolutely gorgeous. Perfect leading man for a story that is about telling the best story ever.
Buttercup: Maria Bilbao
I think Buttercup would be a legit soprano, and as a big fan of Sweeney Todd and the recent revival, Maria Bilbao, who played Johanna, would be absolutely perfect for it. Just go listen to her Green Finch and Linnet Bird and you'll get it.
Inigo Montoya: Colman Domingo
Does Colman Domingo sing? I don't know. Could he act the absolute SHIT out of the confrontation between Inigo and the Six-Fingered Man? ABSOLUTELY. I have this vision of how to adapt the scene, which would also kinda translate Inigo's arc to a musical version. So in the original, the Six-Fingered Man trying anything to manipulate him, mocking him, that great "you have an overdeveloped sense of vengeance line, and Inigo is just not having it. He just keeps repeating the iconic line over and over again. In the musical, I would have the six-fingered man sing, like he's trying to get Inigo to sing with him, to give in to the performance, but Inigo won't sing, he just keeps repeating his line over and over. He refuses to conform to the typical "rising above" narrative and leave the Six-Fingered Man alive, he will be true to himself and his mission and won't let himself be distracted. Anyway, I don't know if this is a good idea, but Colman Domingo would be amazing either way.
Prince Humperdink: Aaron Tveit
I think Prince Humperdink should be the archetypal tenor boy and who is a better representation of current archetypal tenor boys on broadway than Aaron Tveit? Also he's really talented and I think he would act the shit out of this smarmy bastard role.
Count Rugen aka The Six Fingered Man: Josh Groban
I need Josh Groban on Broadway more, and I think he would do great at a quieter villain role, especially coming off a more angry and bloodthirsty role like Sweeney Todd. Also he looks a bit like the original Count Rugen, so that's a bonus.
Vizzini: Alex Brightman
I don't really have much behind this one, other than Vizzini is a weird little guy and Alex Brightman plays weird little guys really well.
Fezzik: Jason Segal
So ideally, I'd actually be able to cast an actor with gigantism to play the part, but I don't know of any, and couldn't find any while googling, so this is my backup essentially. During the lockdowns, a bunch of celebrities did The Princess Bride over zoom, and the scene with Rainn Wilson as Vizzini, Pedro Pascal as Inigo and Jason Segal as Fezzik is genuinely really great, but Jason Segal's Fezzik impression is spot-on and actually amazing. Also, we know from the Muppet Movie, How I Met Your Mother and Forgetting Sarah Marshall that he can sing so, I think he would do great.
Miracle Max and Valerie: Joey Richter and Lauren Lopez
I assume posting this to Tumblr, more people would know who Joey Richter and Lauren Lopez are than the average social media platform, but they are part of Team Starkid and Tin Can Bros and do some fantastic original musicals (please look up the Hatchetfield Trilogy and Spies Are Forever if you haven't seen them yet). They're both extremely talented performers, and also married in real life, so they would absolutely kill this.
Clergyman(Mawage guy): Brian d'Arcy James
I don't really have much of a reasoning behind this, I just think he'd do a good job.
Backups/Close Calls:
Denee Benton as Princess Buttercup
She's one of the best parts of Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, and that's saying something because that musical is (in my opinion) one of the best of all time
Pedro Pascal as Inigo Montoya
I don't know if he sings, and he would be amazing for this, but I wanted to challenge myself to think outside the most obvious choice. However, sometimes the obvious choice is a good one.
Bernadette Peters as Valerie
If the Witch from Into the Woods found love and inner peace

lowkey kinda frustrated by the lack of transparency from smosh idk if this is a common thing for all online content groups but this is personally jarring for me as someone who also is also a dropout fan :///
i totally get that. i've been a fan of smosh for like... six-ish years now so frankly im kind of used to their lack of addressing things atp. that isn't to say it's a good thing or even an excusable thing - im just saying it's something i've learned to live with.
i think it's easy to forget that smosh is a company. at the end of the day they are making decisions that they think are best for their business, what will make them the best monetary gain and what will keep the most viewers in their pocket. i can't say that i particularly agree with all of those decisions, but i also can't say that we as the fans should be allowed to dictate what they do. especially (and i say this knowing my perception personally revolves around the small subset of us here on smoshblr) when the fan base calling for transparency and accountability is a minority. as loud as smoshblr and smoshtwt seem, there are 26.5 million subscribers to smosh (and that's just the main channel - 46 million between the main three channels), most of whom aren't even aware of any of the things they're not taking accountability for. i've seen this happen with countless youtubers and online groups i've been a fan of. i won't name-drop them, but people often do what's best for their brand, not what's morally right. it's a hard thing to come to terms with, but we are just viewers consuming a product. they get to decide what to do with that product; we get to decide whether or not we consume it.
not to mention, it is a company run by real people. people whose relationships and friendships impact their choices. they may not address certain things and they may sweep things under the rug to protect people they care about. once again, i'm not saying whether this is morally good or bad or that it's okay (it's not), i'm just saying that it is a factor that they probably take into account.
now, once again, none of this is an excuse. i'm not going to say that smosh is the pinnacle, end-all, be-all of upstanding companies or that they shouldn't be transparent or that we should stop trying to ask for some semblance of change. this is a well-earned critique at this point. even with everything going on right now, this is not the first time (and i'm sure it won't be the last time either) that smosh has simply avoided addressing controversy. there used to be a master post that i had pinned to the top of my page of all the issues with smosh and who was addressing what and lemme tell you, it wasn't great. i've seen companies much more graceful and overall better at handling their messes. dropout is a great example, and try guys and starkid both come to mind as well. hell, even ogsog has been way better than smosh at this, and they spawned from them. this is a very real problem with smosh as a company and i totally understand frustration and disappointment. i'm with you, trust me.
i think this is something we all have to recognize, contend with, and then draw our own lines in the sand for. we can't dictate what the entire fandom does, and we definitely can't dictate what smosh does, as much as we may want to. all we can do is keep attempting to hold them accountable for their actions and deciding what we can and cannot abide by.
tl;dr: i think that's a very fair critique. i'm frustrated too. i hear you <3

MY PERSONAL STARKID MUSICAL TIERLIST
(disclaimer: these are MY opinions. this is in NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM meant to be DISRESPECTFUL or HATEFUL of other's opinions. i AM leaving out a VHS christmas carol as i have yet to see it)
13 -A Very Potter Senior Year
ok ok, i get it. it's part of the potter trilogy of starkid. something about it, however, just didn't make it stand out. it isn't at the bottom because i didn't like it, it's down here because i didn't like it AS MUCH as the others.
12 -A Very Potter Sequal
once again; a good fucking musical, just didn't stand out as much as others did to me.
11 - Ani
this musical was funny as hell and i'm always a sucker for shows that nick lang acts in. however, while i know that it's a parody plot, i never could be interested in star wars, no matter how hard i tried. while it was funny, and i found it to be interesting, i didn't laugh as hard as some people because i didn't understand some of the jokes made about the show. this musical is placed at 11th purely because i cannot physically or mentally bring myself to enjoy the star wars franchise.
10 -Firebringer
i love the characters, i love some of the jokes, i love some of the songs. that being said, i feel like this musical was one of the lesser entertaining of the starkid musicals. there were so many things going on that it was hard to understand everything. that being said, the SOLE reason i placed this one above Ani is the line "fuck no, zazz" being a response to zazzalil flirting with clark up at the keyboard.
9 -Twisted
the plot, characters, songs, and HOLY SHIT DYLAN SAUNDERS AS JA'FAR WAS NOT SOMETHING I KNEW THAT I NEEDED. the entire musical was SO GOOD. the only reason this musical is placed at 9th is because i HAVE to place my personal favorites higher.
8 -A Very Potter Musical
while i placed the other two of the potter trilogy at the bottom of the list, avpm is a strong 8th place here. joey richter as ron, lauren lopez as draco, and quirrelmort (along with the entirety of the rest of the show, these were just my favorite parts) all made this musical amazing. a timeless piece.
7 - Me and My Dick
mamd is an interesting one to rank. i didn't really know where to put it, but i stand firm that it's 7th here. the music, the characters, everything. it's a timeless piece that show the absolute talent starkid had even back at the beginning of the company.
6 -Trail To Oregon!
tto was one of my first introductions to starkid. it was definitely one of the most funny in my opinion. i think the song that placed it so high was 'Independence!' purely because of joey (shh no one can tell who my favorite starkid is, it's fine). once again, not placed higher only because my top five CANNOT be beat.
5 -Holy Musical, B@man!
this one is very similar to Ani. i had no clue of the plot, i'm not into the superhero shows. HOWEVER the characters and songs were more captivating, and i think it was funnier (still also a sucker for shows nick lang acts in)
4 -The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals
it was a difficult pick between this one and the next, but i had to place number 4 where it is. tgwdlm was my FIRST introduction to starkid. the music is great, jon matteson slayed (as he always does), ted made me love the spankoffski's before i knew who they were, and the whole show was amazing. once again, only not placed higher because my top 3 cannot be matched.
3 -Black Friday
HOLY SHIT. angela as lex, kendall as hannah and tim, dylan as tom, lauren as linda, JON AS WIGGLY WTF I LOVED THIS MUSICAL SO MUCH HOLY SHIT.
2 -Starship
this one may get me in hot water, but i'm not afraid of controversy if it means i get to be correct. NOT ONLY is JOEY the protagonist, he has kick ass songs, nick lang acts, joe walker as up, krayonder, JUNIOR. THIS MUSICAL IS TOP TIER AND I WILL FIGHT FOR THAT.
1 -Nerdy Prudes Must Die
you all know i had to do it. joey as peter spankoffski, mariah as stephanie lauter, ANGELA AS GRACE, THE SUMMONING WTF, will made the PERFECT max, the ENTIRE THING WAS SO GOOD WTF I LOVED ALL OF IT.
