I need a fanfic about a Human who is working close with Vulcans or Romulans. I don't care if it's on a ship or an embassy as long as it's with as many of them as possible.
The Human knows enough about vulcan / romulan society and culture to get by and avoid any major embarassements however the finer details are not known to them, which is why they don't understand why everyone around them gets absolutely flabbergasted at the sight of their pierced ears and painted finger nails.
Meanwhile the Romulans /Vulcans try very hard not to blush and to appear as normal as ever because they don't want the Human to know that such things are more than frivolous because the Human would probably die of embarrasments.

Fandom: Star Trek: Discovery Pairing: Jett Reno x fem!reader Words: 1.8K Summary: Jett overworked herself, so her girlfriend really needs to take care of her. A/N: Since no one else seems to be interested in Jett Reno ( since I couldn't find any x reader fanfiction featuring her anywhere), I took matters into my own hands. Only something small, but so that at least something is there.
Tumblr media
Sighing, she sat up. "Zora? What's the time?" In within seconds, the familiar female voice sounded out of nowhere. "It's just 0034 hours, Lieutenant." She heaved another sigh. "Thank you Zora." "My pleasure." As quickly as her voice had sounded, it died away and she sat alone in her quarters.
She was aware that fatigue was written all over her face, however, she couldn't possibly sleep, not as long as the space at her side was empty. Dejectedly, she put aside her personal PADD, on which she had been reading until just now, flipped the covers aside and swung her legs out of bed so that her feet touched the floor.
As she got up, she grabbed the robe that was lying on a chair next to the bed and put it on so that she wouldn't just be scurrying through the halls in her pajamas. Quickly, she slipped on her shoes and was out the door a few moments later. Her destination: engineering.
While she leaned against the wall in the elevator, waiting to arrive at the right deck, she rubbed her eyes and had to stifle a yawn. It was already the third time this week that she had to drag her girlfriend to their quarters to sleep, and it was only Friday night. Of course she had been aware that it would not be easy to be in a relationship with a workaholic, but it was getting ridiculous in her opinion.
Silently, the elevator doors opened and as she exited, a small group of ensigns came up to her, nodding with smiles. She could only half-heartedly return it.
If she was honest with herself, she was really starting to worry about Jett. When they had entered into this relationship, she had known that the engineer often worked longer hours than was good for her. Especially when she had been bickering with Stamets again and the two of them had their unspoken competition in 'who can last longer until they pass out', which they both claimed not to. Nonetheless, it drove not only her, but Doctor Culber crazy as well.
She had also known that Jett had not had it very easy. She knew what had happened to her wife and that she still mourned her to some extent, even if Jett refused to admit it. She also knew that Jett, unlike herself, had fought in the Klingon war and she knew very well that it had left scars. And finally, she also knew that Jett preferred to bury herself in her work rather than talk about her feelings, a reason why it took them two eternities to pull themselves together, and liked to bury herself in her work, often for hours.
Still rubbing her eyes, she walked down the hallway when a person joined her from one of the side corridors, looking just as tired and exhausted as she was. "You back here too?" Hugh's voice sounded even more exhausted than she felt. "I wouldn't skip our nightly meetings for anything in the galaxy," she joked rather poorly, but elicited a weak smile from Hugh. "And how long is Reno working now?" "About eighteen hours. Stamets?" "Likewise."
Wearily she looked up at her friend. "She's driving me crazy Hugh." "I understand that." He smiled at her with what she liked to call his 'counselor smile'. "But they're worth it, aren't they?" "Still up for debate." Grumpy as she might sound, however, she had to agree with Hugh. Jett Reno was worth every hour of lost sleep and every minute of worry.
Side by side, Hugh and she entered Engineering, only to see the image that had greeted them both for the past few nights. While Stamets stood at his console with sleepy eyes, swapping one hologram with scientific information for the next with rapid movements, Jett was up to her elbows in one of the walls of the ship, repairing God knows what.
Hugh and she gave each other one last tired look before separating to collect their respective partners. As Hugh thus set to work pulling Stamets away from the holograms, she squatted on the floor next to Jett and regarded her gently for a few moments.
Her slowly graying hair fell lightly into her eyes, which were so fixated on the work that they didn't even notice her. At some point during the day, Jett had loosened and opened her uniform collar and rolled up her sleeves, presumably to work better.
In the background, she heard Hugh gently talking to Stamets, though she tried to tune it out. Gently, she put her hand on Jett's shoulder, hoping not to startle her. "Hey." Engrossed in her work, she didn't even seem to recognize her properly. "Not now, I'm busy."
Slightly amused despite the circumstances, she shook her head and gently shook Jett's shoulder. "Don't you think it's about time to go to sleep, darling?" At the sound of the last word, Jett paused and slowly pulled her arms out of the shaft so she could lift her head. As soon as their eyes met, she frowned.
"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at your station?" Her gaze slid down her, which only deepened the frown. "And what the hell are you wearing?" Gently, she smiled at her and touched her gently on the elbow. "I'm wearing my pajamas. Jett, do you have any idea what time it is?" The other woman dropped onto her butt and stretched her legs, groaning slightly. " I was actually going to say 1900 hours, but somehow I have a feeling that's not quite the truth."
"Honey, it's almost one in the morning." "That would explain why I'm starting to get a little tired." "Come on now," she tugged gently on Jett's arm. "Off to bed with you." Jett, however, merely pointed to the opening in the shaft in which she had been engrossed until just now. "I still have to-"
"No." Her voice was sterner now and she looked admonishingly at the older woman. "Someone else can do that for you. Jett, you've been up for almost eighteen hours. It's a bigger risk to keep you working here than to wait for someone else to come." For a few moments, Jett returned her gaze somberly before rolling her eyes in defeat and rising. "All right. I do think you're exaggerating, but - woah."
Jett swayed, and had it not been for her, the engineer would have slammed headfirst into the nearest console. With difficulty, she managed to hold Jett up by the arm and make sure she didn't instantly fall to the floor. "What were you going to say? Jesus Jett, when was the last time you ate something?" Jett narrowed her eyes, so strained she had to think. "When did we have breakfast?" "Oh my God!"
If she'd had her hands free, she would have rubbed her eyes in weary frustration. "You're coming now." Jett seemed about to protest, but one look at her girlfriend told her it would be safer to keep her mouth shut. Reeling with fatigue, Jett was pulled across the room, and even though the engineer seemed annoyed, she remained silent.
Hugh threw them a tired smile as he continued to try to get Stamets to leave the room before they left Engineering.
Silently, they walked side by side to the turbolift, in which they rode side by side, also silently. As soon as the turbolift stopped, she pulled Jett along, still not saying a word. The silence was only broken when they arrived in her quarters and Jett was stowed away in one of the armchairs. "I'm sorry."
She could see how much of an effort it had taken Jett to say those words, and her expression softened instantly before she knelt down in front of her. "It's okay." With an affectionate smile, she stroked Jett's arm. "I'm starting to worry, though, Jett. I've had to drag you out of the engine room more than twice this week because you've lost track of time. And to make it worse, you're refusing to do basic things that the human body needs while you're engrossed in your work. That's not healthy." Concerned, she stroked Jett's hand. "Promise me you'll try to work on it. I don't care how. Set an alarm, program the replicators next to the engine room to program your food at certain times and let you know. Anything. Please."
Jett grumbled softly to herself before sighing. "I guess I could set some kind of reminder for myself. So you don't have to worry too much." A smile spread across her lips and she pressed a tentative kiss to Jett's cheek. "Thank you." Jett didn't reply, though she could detect a hint of a smile. She got up, scurried into their bedroom, and returned with Jett's pajamas in hand, which she pressed into Jett's hand.
"Can you manage to change and wash up? Then I'll see about getting something to eat." Jett mumbled something to herself, but actually managed to get up and stagger into the bathroom. After a few moments, when she still hadn't heard any muffled noises that might suggest Jett had fallen or hurt herself, she exhaled calmly and began putting the shoes Jett had taken off earlier next to the door next to hers.
She then went to the replicator and replicated a small portion of chicken soup. She knew Jett didn't eat much anyway and didn't want to strain her stomach unnecessarily, knowing that Jett slept poorly if she did. When she emerged from the bathroom, she didn't have time to do anything, as she was instantly shipped to one of the chairs and her plate was pushed over to her. "Eat up." "Yes ma'am.
For a few moments she watched Jett eat her soup before getting up and going to the bathroom. There she collected Jett's dirty clothes and uniform and put them in the basket, which was picked up daily for cleaning, and turned the shower down completely to zero, since Jett, as usual, had not turned it down completely.
While she was gone, Jett had finished eating and put the used plate back in the replicator. The moment she returned from the bathroom, Jett nibbled on a small piece of licorice. "What?" she defended herself. "Blood sugar was low." "Of course."
Lovingly, she stroked Jett's hair. "Come on. Time for bed." Surprisingly willing, Jett allowed herself to be led into the bedroom, where she dropped into bed without much ado. Her girlfriend just shook her head in amusement, pulled out the covers and gently laid them over the engineer. Only then did she slip out of her robe and shoes and slip under the covers as well.
Slowly, she slid over closer to Jett and wrapped her arms around the woman, pressing her chest against her back. "Always so clingy," Jett muttered, half asleep. "Shut up, you love me," she returned, pressing a kiss to her temple. "Mhhh. Your luck."

Finished Series 1 Episode 9 of Disco...
Ancient S1 Spoilers below the cut
For a first season of a Star Trek show it's remarkably not bad? If you're on my blog for a hot min you'll know I LOVE DS9 (and really all Trek), but got damn most of the ST series had rough first seasons, and my great love, DS9, started with episodes that felt like auto-parody and some were near unwatchable. By S3, DS9 really hit it's stride.
I'm not saying Disco is perfect and I doubt I'll love it more than DS9 but only time will tell. It feels a little disjointed and characters die off way too fast. T'Kuvma didn't feel like he was around long enough to gain the kind of clout that would elevate his death to martyrdom. We're repeatedly told he's the second coming of Kahless, but we are not shown it. For Georgiou's death to feel as tragic as we're told it is, she would have needed to be captain for at least as Lorca has been. So much telling, so little showing. Showing takes time. It means letting the story breathe. And this is paced just slightly under how literally cartoonishly frenetic LD is!
Not sure it's a criticism or just a fact: I can't tell if the writers meant for Disco to be arc-driven like DS9 or if they intend loosely connected episodes organised around the theme of Burnham's experiences in the Klingon war. If there's a main plot, at 9 hours in, I have no inkling of what it might be.
It's odd for a Star Trek to follow one character (Burnham). Haven't seen that before so I have no opinion except that I like it when writers try new things. Even if it ends up not working as well as the usual jumping around the crew, it's nice that they're at least trying something novel.
E9 pretty well confirmed my suspicions that Lorca is mirror verse. So, "damn it four times around the carpark and back in again for another dammit," he'll be dead or gone in a hot minute. Unfortunately I don't think he's defecting. I was hoping maybe they'd go that route because it would be complicated in a lot of ways and also interesting bc so far I don't think we've seen anyone from mirror just up and say, "fuck this place it sucks I'm outty 5k." I have this vague memory of a TOS novel where (I think) mirror Kirk defects to the universe we usually see. And why not? Why is everyone in mirror-verse sexed-up devils when everyone on the Federation side aren't chaste angels? I hope Disco does something more interesting with mirror verse than "the government is full of fascist terrorists" because, I mean, [gestures broadly at everything], we've got that well covered on this side and in the real world.
Bummed now about this. I never totally trusted Tyler. "No one survives 7 months of Klingon toture." I wondered if maybe he was a mirror cross-over too, but now I think he might be eat up with Stockholm syndrome or have some brain implant or something to make him loyal to L'Rell.
I still love Seaweed and Toadstool and I'm really happy they both got some time in these two episodes. Even if mirror verse is handled terribly, I'm kind of glad they're there for a while because it means Stamets can't just go to pasture or whatever they were threatening to do with him.

Ever since watching The Wire for the first time, my brain has doggedly kept working away at the Especially the lies of it all, and specifically at how much the structure beneath the different stories Garak tells contributes to the overall meaning of what he’s trying to say. While the contradicting narratives of course expertly obscure the factual circumstances of his getting exiled, using them also allows him to tell aspects and facets of the emotional truth I don’t think he ever could have, if he’d simply told the actual story of what happened. (It’s very Varric-core of him honestly.)
The first story — the ‘oh, you think you know me?’ story — says I have done things that would sicken you if you knew any detail of it. It’s clearly meant to scare Bashir away so he’ll leave him to die shamefully in peace already lol. But it’s also one of his (probably much-needed lbr) little lessons to Julian that are so frequent in the beginning, given while Garak still has some hold on himself — “Don’t be so quick to forgive me if you don’t even know what I’ve done; what would you do if this really were the sum total of what I am?” (And Julian seems to surprise him by going ‘Well, exactly the same thing, because no matter who you are I am a doctor. But I sort of take your point.’)
The second story — the letting the orphans go story — says I have failed to smother my soul in its cradle when it was required of me, and I regret that more than anything I’ve done. To my ears this is the one most shot through with active self-loathing too, which is interesting. He’s officially lost the control he’s been clinging to and it’s about to get ugly. His TL;DR is ‘Sentiment is the greatest weakness of all’, even all the way back here. (Which is the one lesson Julian steadfastly refuses to learn, which I think in turn does some serious rearrangement of Garak’s soul over the course of the show haha. Get uno reversed into the process of loving and being loved without shame asshole.)  This is also where he builds up to admitting to having any sort of need for companionship or closeness at all and — so much worse — that Julian’s role in his life actually has fulfilled some of that need, and he’s DRIPPING with defensive venom over it b/c well I get it Garak vulnerability is scary it can take a person like that.
(I also feel there’s something honest and forbidden in ‘Suddenly the whole exercise seemed utterly meaningless’. I suspect ‘actually… why the fuck are we even doing this???’ is not a welcome sentiment in an Obsidian Order water cooler environment, no matter what you’re saying it about lmao. The very first seeds of him deconstructing the things he’s been taught about Cardassia and his work might be hinted at here, though they of course take a looong time to come to any real fruition.)
The third story — the ‘Elim was my best friend’ story — says hey, remember that thing you said once, about how sometimes, you have to be loyal to yourself before you can be loyal to anything else? Well. guess what. I couldn’t even be that lmao. It also furthers that thread of being divided from yourself, split, that having ‘Elim’ as a separate person around in all versions of the story brings in. He’s in control of himself again, but he essentially hands his life and soul over to Julian to decide what should be done with them.
I’ve done horrible things and it finally caught up with me, I’m getting what I deserve → I let sentiment master me and the fact that I’m too weak to do what’s needed of me shames me more than the evil I’ve done → I fucked up. I betrayed myself and everything I held to, all for nothing, and I have no one to blame for it but myself. But it’s very nice that you’re here anyway, Doctor. (Wow. I didn’t realize quite how isolated and lonely that last one was before right now. The way Tain has shaped him really has just… locked him completely into himself, huh.) We can also see a movement through from a completely professional context in the first story, to an intensely interpersonal and internal context in the last one — even his fake stories spiral in towards intimacy, which I think is what he longs for here even if he can’t quite like. Touch that without the stories as a buffer yet, it’s clearly like touching a hot stove for him to interact with it too directly.
And you know what I find incredibly interesting the whole way through? Even on his deathbed, where he’s dying from the thing Tain had put in his head, he’s protecting Tain. He puts all the blame for where he is on himself (‘My future was limitless, until I threw it away’), even if he has to employ a strange twisty logic where he’s split himself into two to do it. Don’t get me wrong, Garak has done horrific things all on his own haha, but it’s notable that he almost isolates Tain from that. ‘Tain was the Obsidian Order. Not even the Central Command dared challenge him. And I was his right hand.’ Tain in Garak’s stories is this infallible implacable weirdly distant figure, even now. Indeed, as will make a lot of sense with the revelations further down the line, more than anything it seems the gaze of an abused child desperate for recognition looking up at an idealized (if not in any way nurturing) parent.‘He was retired at that point; he couldn't protect me’, Garak says, as if what he’d need protection from in the first place isn’t Tain himself lmao, as if Tain had no active part in any of this. He never lets blame touch Tain at all. At this stage he would rather consider himself a broken flawed tool than accept that the hands that have wrought and wielded him have ever had any fault in them. AND in the middle of it all, with plausible deniability, on death’s door and knocking meekly to be let in before he must finish the mortifying ordeal of being known and test the even more daunting possibility of being loved, Garak at the same time manages to drop the breadcrumb trail of clues to make it possible for Julian to find Tain if he so chooses and gets in the ‘sons of Tain’ thing too for future dramatic irony purposes. Truly he is the Michelangelo of lying. Every falsehood a multifaceted masterpiece. Elim ‘achieving a state of intertextuality in real life is possible if you work hard and believe in yourself’ Garak. I love him so much.
I think all of this is why “I forgive you. For whatever it is you did,” works so well, because it too works on a structural level. It’s such a deceptively multilayered response — it has the syntax of a joke, in a way, and it is kind of funny even under the circumstances, but delivered with such earnest warmth and fondness. It’s both recognition and acceptance (forgiveness!). It’s saying ‘I finally understand enough of what you’re trying to tell me beneath and through all that, in whatever way you’re capable of, I see you’ and ‘my answer hasn’t changed (bitch)’. The forgiveness Julian offers here is complete — on principle, and out of personal feeling and empathy (only one of which Garak deigns to respond to during the second story, where he calls it ‘smug Federation sympathy’, placing it more completely on the principle side than it probably is. ‘Dude you’re my friend please don’t just lie down and die in a completely avoidable way on me, who else is going to not only tolerate but actually gleefully enjoy me being annoying as fuck over lunch’ seems to be the subtext that’s a lot harder to acknowledge and invite in for both of them. And yet Tain seems perfectly clear on the fact that Julian is Garak’s friend, which, y’know. Must be fun living with the knowledge that Tain has eyes everywhere looming over you every day haha guess you’d just have to tune that out.)
Most of all — ’Don’t give up on me now, Doctor’... and he didn’t! He didn’t. Augh. Ow.

hey WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN KLINGONS HAVE TWO DICKS
in the next generation in the 90s they made it canon that klingons have double of every organ and then in discovery in 2018 they made it explicit that klingons have two dicks by showing a klingon piss with two streams on screen. no word on if klingons have two pussies though

This woman has literally no reason to be on the bridge except so that Mitchell can grab her arm in a way that Spock can mirror exactly one minute later. It does not surprise me that this show invented slash.

Discovery Thoughts
I am personally devastated that it's Disco's last season... But!
It will always hold a special place in my heart.
Tumblr media
I spent a few years avoiding it and watching TNG reruns on the BBC instead (because of the paywall) but then I decided that life is too short not to watch every Star Trek there is - I'm still working my way through the movies - and I subscribed.
Tumblr media
And for a while, it was epic. Then Prodigy was cancelled, and axed from the network entirely. And then it was Discovery's and Lower Deck's turn.
Tumblr media
And at least we'll still have Strange New Worlds. We need to be grateful for that, and for the fact that Star Trek exists at all. I couldn't - no - I wouldn't want to - imagine a world where Star Trek in all its myriad forms didn't exist.
Tumblr media
And then there's fanfiction, both to be written and to be read. It's truly wonderful.
Tumblr media
Even Discovery is coming to its curtain call, it'll always live on in our hearts. The haters are always going to be lurking out there, but what Trek wasn't without its faults? Nothing is perfect. But to me, Trek is the one thing that comes closest.
Tumblr media
Fly swiftly, Discovery.
