After learning a lot more about squids I was inspired to biology-post once again. Observe my cephalopods, boy.

I wanted to incorporate more traits from the actual in-game design while still adding a healthy dose of creature. I’ll probably still go back and forth between this design and the one i’ve been been using for the past few months, just to get the best of both worlds haha.

Inklings have chitinous teeth in their suckers as well as retractible hooks in the tips of their fingers and toes, the shape and size of which will vary a lot between species. as well. Squids also have a gladius (or “pen”), which is a plastic-like, chitinous structure that basically act as the squid’s backbone and provides support.

Octolings however don’t have this structure, so instead they rely more on the ink veins to support their body weight. Mainly fluid pressure in the legs, which you’ll notice the veins there are denser than an Inkling’s.

Ancient cephalopods made the jump from being muscular hydrostats (no skeleton, all muscle) to true fluid-based hydrostats (using fluid pressure as a “skeleton”) pretty early in their evolution. Their ink sacs grew in size and became their primary form of defence against predators like sharks, which had recently gone terrestrial and were ravaging early molluscan populations at the time.

I’m still not entirely sure how inkfish would change the colour of ink inside their bodies, so for now I’m just going with the headcanon that they do it artificially by ingesting dyes/chemicals before matches, whereas otherwise it would be a deep, inky-black.

A quick, Non-exhaustive Spec Bio post about Grox

I haven't finished their fully species sheet yet, But I figured I would share some info on Daybreak's Grox based on bits and pieces I have drawn overtime!!

The Grox are a species of sophont aliens who appear within the Daybreak universe, My own original hard sci-fi project derived heavily from the game Spore, In which the Grox originally come from. This is simply my own take on them for use in my own project, Although inspiration is more than welcome!!

They have colonized almost the entire area around the Galactic Core. They would be roughly a type II civilization on the kardshev scale.

In spite of being one of the most advanced species within the galaxy, Grox are rather physically frail, Being only around 3-4 feet tall on average. Although the individual here lacks them, Nearly every grox has some form of cybernetic modification. This is for a variety of reasons, Mainly due to the fact Grox rely on cloning for reproduction and the fact that they need them in order to survive extreme environments. They have reached a point of no return when it comes to technological advancement, And a cyberneticless grox simply cannot survive.

The planets they do best on are barren, highly radioactive and hot. They will often terraform colonized planets to meet these conditions.

Grox have a unique tooth configuration, Similar to earth carnivorans, With the addition of a pair of incisors designed for cutting into prey. However, Grox in the modern day subsist almost entirely off of radiation. If there isn't enough radiation available, A grox will go back to needing to eat food. They are Hypercarnivores, Mostly eating meat but supplementing their diet with plant matter as well.

Near their eye is a special radiosensory organ, Capable of sensing certain types of radiation similar to the heat pits on various earth animals.

Their eyes are very large and sensitive, Having color vision fairly similar to humans with slightly better sensitivity to UV. Their pupils have a very wide range of motion, Being able to go from very large, to slits, to pinpricks.

Their blood and flesh are purple.

Grox have three fingers and two toes, Each with retractable claws. The soles of their paws are padded.

Epsilon is an example of a fairly typical Grox created from stock fodder soldier DNA, Not really deviating too far from the base aside from having an overall darker fur color, A longer mane, A distinct dorsal stripe marking and an overall slimmer build.

The cybernetics being primarily on the left side of his body are a product of clone rot.

Example of sexual dimorphism in Castor Erectus. Individual females can vary greatly in hairiness, though in general they tend to have less and thinner facial hair than male individuals. In colder climates where more insulating fur is necessary, Dwarven females can often become indistinguishable from male specimens in terms of hairiness. Male Dwarves have an average height of about 135cm, or 4'5", and healthy specimens vary in height by about 10cm, or 4 inches. An average female Dwarf stands at about 122cm, or 4 feet, with a similar range of variation. The female's smaller size can be attributed to directing energy that could be used on growth to maintaining a healthy menstrual and reproductive cycle. Dwarves are mostly Herbivorous, (Though some communities of dwarves have been seen supplementing their diet with Crustaceans and small fish, often farmed in their constructed cisterns.) and as such they do not have a rigid distinction between gender roles. Both male and female Dwarves engage in food gathering, den maintenance, defending from predators, and caring for young. Dwarves are generally monogamous, and live in close familial units called "colonies". but as their territory expands, multiple offshoots from the same familial source often band together and form a larger colonies, working together to control the flow of water and resources in their territory. These large colonies generally form in response to pressure from predators, environmental changes, or pressure from competing colonies.

lycoperiergo, more commonly called a longfaced snapper, are forest dwelling relatives of pouched snappers of the steppes, they are commonly found in groups of 3-5 called kettles, they are some of the few ovoviviparious ostomesa on maschora, internalizing their eggs until they hatch and giving birth to chicks directly, they are primarily carnivorous but will opportunistically eat plants, similar to their steppebound relatives they use a tuft of colourful archeina as a display feature, for both disputes between kettles as well as internal mating disputes, they usually have a clutch of 6-8 chicks, which once reaching maturity leave the kettle, their bottom jaws have specialized teeth which keep their prey in their mouths, these fangs are also constantly growing similar to the teeth of telluric rodents, if you have any questions about this seelenlos please dont be afraid to ask i am more than happy to answer

Cleaning out my 2023 sketch doc oh boy.

Last year, I re-found an old mini comic script I did for art class way back last decade. It was about a Neanderthal and human who were both massive assholes getting into an asshole situation. I thought it'd make a fun comic exercise...except I realized I actually LIKED drawing these characters and didn't want them to be one-shot assholes anymore. So now they're being redeveloped in my "OC backburner" folder, awaiting to see the light of day.

The rest of these are sketches and scraps. Some I may develop further, idk yet.

Whoever designed the TOTK Gibdos deserves both a promotion and a one-way ticket to hell, for simultaneously being the smartest designer alive and also making me want to throw up.

I like to think the frilly things on their necks are gills but for sand? No idea how that’d work, maybe they inhale it through the mouth, then run it though some organ that extracts oxygen from the sand’s minerals before pushing the depleted leftovers out the gills? It’d probably make it easier for a Gibdo to stay buried for longer, and they also look extremely cool so no complaints haha
