Hey so i too read your yooseven hc post but I wonder how would seven show his care towards yoosung cuz in that post i mainly see yoosung is like mainly the who is the "giver". And im not saying its bad (please dont take my words negatively) because i can also see seven himself feeling like yoosung is the one who "does more" than him in the relationship and perhaps may feel insecure about it from time to time because he never really had someone go this far for him, its not something he is used to.

And at the same time, while seven for most of his life have been the "caregiver" mainly because he is aware that he is the stronger twin and the one who could do something (so its more out of necessity) yoosung on the other hand has the innate need to be needed and be the "bigger" person even tho unlike seven he never had to feel the compulsion to be the said "bigger" person out of necessity because he has always been the youngest both in rfa and his family but he wants to be someone his loved ones can rely on because thats what makes him feel personally fulfilled, thats his love language. I hope im making sense

So i can see yoosung struggling in that aspect in the relationship with basically anyone he is been with including seven so I also wonder how it would be like in their relationship with seven as a dynamic

Hmm, yes, yes, I can totally see what you're talking about, anon! Relationships are messy, romantic or platonic, so it's only a given for both of them having to face a few difficulties, these ones included. Now, this is only my personal interpretation based on how I portray these characters, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt!

All I can say is that it's a process. A messy one. It all depends on the context. Do they confess their feelings to each other before taking care of Mint Eye? After? Does Yoosung have to deal with Saeyoung's avoidance like his mc's do during his route? Or do they have no time for that? Small details like these do matter in the long run. There are many, many ways you can write them getting together, and that's what makes it fun to play around with in the first place.

When it comes to the already established relationship... I believe they'll make it work. Not without a couple of mishaps, of course. Yoosung, in comparison to Saeyoung, is someone who is very open to communication, and he has no problem with openly talking about his feelings and asking Saeyoung to do the same. Saeyoung, on the other hand, will have some struggles with that aspect. It'll take him some time to move on from his previous ways of dealing with any difficulties, however big or small. This might lead to some conflicts between the two.

It's always hard to see your loved one pretending like everything's alright or outright denying that there's a problem when you know they don't have to do it alone. Saeyoung does this from the place of love, he really does. He doesn't want to burden anyone with his struggles and he'd much rather use this anxious energy to make his loved ones happy instead of making them needlessly worry. It's not healthy, but it's the only way he knows how to deal with his issues. For Yoosung, this might come across as Saeyoung not trusting him to understand what he's going through, and that stings. It's like Saeyoung thinks he's not strong enough to handle it. Yoosung has a... personal grudge against anyone keeping secrets from him. For a good reason. So, yes, this can become a major problem for them.

But, that doesn't mean they can't make it work. They care about one another. Saeyoung is not smothering Yoosung with gifts or putting up a lighthearted facade in front of him out of annoyance. He's doing it because he genuinely believes that's the right thing to do. I truly think Yoosung can figure it out. He's a deeply empathetic person at heart. He might get frustrated at times and he might need some time to get his thoughts in order, but he knows Saeyoung cares for him. And he knows when he's having a hard time. The tricky part is figuring out how to have this important talk.

It's really about balance. No relationship is perfect, just like none of us are perfect. Neither Yoosung nor Saeyoung had a serious romantic relationship before, so it's going to be very clumsy at times, but that's okay. At the end of the day, Saeyoung would never want to hurt the ones he loves most. He is willing to take notice when his actions start having a negative effect on Yoosung, and he is more than willing to apologize. As for Yoosung, he wants to know the real Saeyoung, more than anything. He might get a bit heated and pushy at times, but he will learn how to be more mature.

As for the way they show affection to one another... again, it's about communication. Saeyoung is the type of person who will show his love through his actions, while Yoosung is more on a verbal side. I truly think they know each other well enough where these differences won't be a problem. Saeyoung doesn't mind getting all mushy and romantic at times to see Yoosung blush and giggle. Meanwhile, Yoosung knows Saeyoung's gifts are so much more than just physical objects.

I guess you could say... they are learning together?

One of the best things about Crowdfunding is, stuff arrives even when you're cutting way back on spending. A *ton* of stuff arrived in the last month and a bit. Got a bunch of really neat projects in, and it's time to get hype about it!

Why these games rule, under the cut

The Revenant Society: Banana Chan is one of those names that immediately catches my attention when she's on a project. Actually, looking at the list again, the team for this game was stacked, it was a real All-Star Cast. But like, even without the powerhouse designers on the case, this just gets all the things I want in a game: Time loops, murder mysteries, trapped on the Underground. A PbtA game where you solve your own murder is, y'know, a pitch that'll attract my attention.

Hellwhalers: I saw this game coming up through design phases in the Plus One Exp Discord, and it sounded incredible. Using tokens and an old ship betting game, you're part of a whaling crew chasing Moby Dick into actual hell. Maybe Ahab wasn't crazy after all, and maybe we won't survive.

Xenolanguage: I might own everything Thorny Games makes now, because they make games about language. Folks who may not know me might not know that I *love* linquistics. Honestly, if I could repeat college, I'd put more of my time into Linguistics. But due to the linear nature of time, I'll settle for playing games about decoding alien language in a first contact situation. Sorta like that movie Contact. Which, I loved.

Mothership and Desert Moons of Karth: I read through the original version of Mothership a couple of years ago, and it's one I wanted to get more into. When I saw that there was a chance to pick up the full 1e boxset on KS, I jumped. I've also seen tons of people talk about Karth as a really awesome sandbox module for the system, so when I had a little cash on DTRPG from selling books, it was an easy pickup.

Inscrutable Cities: Possum Creek Games told me to back this, so I did (this is a joke, but I do love PCG a whole lot). In reality, I saw Inscrutable Cities on Itch a while ago, and the pitch grabbed me. I love reading solo journaling games (I still haven't found a way I like to play them, if I'm completely honest, but they're really neat reads). Walking through an impossible city is something I'd love to do, so, I have the book for it now.

Reap: Spencer Cambell makes bangers, and bangers only. I'm not *not* on a mission to collect all of his work, but Necromancers? Solo tactical board games, built on Rune? Sure. I'm in.

Luna: Spencer Campbell makes bangers, and bangers only. I also picked up another of his books this month. The Nova universe? Moon cultists trying to destroy the sun? Sure, I'm in.

3 Moonlight on Roseville Beach zines: I played Moonlight on Roseville Beach on my now-defunct podcast, and it's a game that I honestly think about a lot. The dice system was complicated, but in a really neat way that gave the players a ton of really interesting decisions with every roll. What part of my action succeeds? What kinds of complications am I opening myself to?

Anyway, R. Rook put together some characters, mysteries, and monsters for the game, and I really wanted to explore more.

Hiria, In the Margins, A Visit to San Sibilia: I mentioned earlier that I like the notion of exploring weird cities, right? Well, here's two games about that, and a cool bookmark RPG for reading. I listened to San Sibilia played in an episode of Friends at the Table, and it really captured my attention. The questions were fascinating, and they let the players flesh out a city we'd only heard of, but not seen prior to that game. It was a cool coda on a really fantastic and weird season, Sangfielle.

Grandmothership: The title alone had me, but Armanda Haller is a creator I keep an eye on, because she makes really rad stuff. This caught my attention because solving mysteries in a weird, Mothership-esque sci-fi setting, as nosy grandmothers, really just, gets me. I want to do that. I want to live that.

Holdfast Station: I've been watching Stonetop develop through its email updates. It's another PbtA game, but with a robust city-building and city development core loop that, is 100% my jam. (Low-key, one of my favorite games is Dragon Quest Builders 2.) This game takes that concept to space, which is 1000% my jam, in fact.

Spectres of Brocken: Aaron Lim is a designer I got into early on in my foray into games, and I do love Mech Anime. I am eager to see his take on Mech Anime, and I am really intrigued by the way this game handles playsets and worldbuilding as part of the game itself. Really can't wait to dive into this.

Lay on Hands: This is another of those games I've heard about, but never actually checked out. I know Alfred Valley better by reputation than by direct experience, but this is one of those games I hear people constantly telling people to check out. So, I'm gonna!

Penumbra City: Maybe 5 years ago, I read a novella by Margaret Killjoy about anarchists living in an abandoned city, and beset by assholes within their community, and supernatural horrors from without. The world kinda stuck with me, so when I saw she was working on an RPG not in the same world), I was curious to see what that would look like. I haven't cracked Penumbra City open yet, but I'm jazzed to do so.

These two fell off the pile for the big photo, so I forgot:

Deathmatch Island: I enjoyed the Hunger Games and Battle Royale movies a pretty moderate amount, but what really caught my attention here was the promise that players could also break the Reality TV Parody. The use of the Paragon system also caught my attention. After hearing one AP of Agon, I really wanted to see how that would translate into this, and it didn't take me too long reading it to go "Oh, okay, this rules."

Our God is Dead: What if you were a paladin or priest of a faith, and you found out your god was dead? What if you also had like, a bunch of people who really needed that god not to be dead, like this weekend? This sounds hilarious, and I am going to insert it into conversation often to see if people want to play it. Apologies to people who know me.

Eagle eyed viewers may have noticed a second Mothership box. What's that about?

hi james! I'm currently putting together the first d&d campaign I'll be dming for, and I was hoping for some advice. Specifically, I'd like to know how much you'd suggest preparing in advance (is there a minimum amount of preparation that helps things run smoothly? is there a level of detail/specificity where it starts hindering your ability to improvise, or just isn't useful? I'm sure this varies some based on personal preference and style but I'd still like to hear your thoughts) but any other advice/suggestions/recommendations would also be much appreciated <3

well, part of it depends on the sort of game you're looking to run. i've run two major high-effort D&D campaigns, and they were both very different structurally.

the first game was very plot-driven, with the players getting missions from the crown. my players were pretty new, and it had been a while since I'd DM'd, so i wanted to do something simple to hold their hands through the introductory period. for that one, i spent a whiiile nailing down what sorta stuff would be happening and what the world was like and all that. i think my main campaign doc wound up being around 90 pages by the time the game went on indefinite hiatus around level 10

for my current game, i wanted to run a proper sandbox campaign, which is a bit more of an undertaking. i started by nailing down a bunch of broad setting details: continents, countries, gods, metaphysics, some major historical events. once i had a broad view of Everything, i focused in on the stuff immediately at hand.

i knew they'd be starting off in the Eviscaran Empire, so i filled out an excessive amount of information about its governing structure, demographics, economy, etc.

once i had that framework, the amount of prep i did trailed off RAPIDLY over time. for the first bits of the game, i was writing soooo much for every location and NPC. i haven't put anything down on paper in like three sessions

my number one tip is to prep NPCs in advance but like. not actually

here's how i do NPC prep:

i have a table full of Name, Race, Appearance, and Personality, with blank spots for Location, Profession, and Notes

when i need an NPC, i grab the next empty spot on the table, come up with the sort of person who fits both the appearance/personality and the job i'm putting them in, and play 'em

it's like a little game! the order in which the players do things effects what the NPCs are gonna be like! rugged, suspicious Vin Muvak wound up as a shady ex-con flower seller (fun contrast), and masked, efficient Immaq Qaim ended up being a crime boss (perfect fit)

but yeah here's an example of my session notes

i do take more in-depth notes for like. dungeon crawls and stuff, but a solid 50% of what happens in a given session is totally pulled out of my ass. i just go with what feels right

"oh the wizard wants to investigate this mirror? sure would be funny if it had a Power Word Kill trap"

one of my players asked me what would have happened if they'd sealed the eternally-tortured princess of the summer fey into a spear and then fed that to the paladin's weapon-eating sword and i said "50% chance it frees her from her torment, 50% chance it lets her loose in the material plane" "you'd flip a coin?" "no i would just pick in the moment based on what felt more narratively satisfying"

part of running a sandbox game is just playing fast and loose with prep. it's impossible to predict everything that's going to happen so i just trust myself to come up with solid stuff on the fly. i looooove getting to spitball treatises on magic and history whenever someone reads a book or casts identify or makes a history/religion/arcana check :)

Okay so, I (Audrey) was going to make this into, like, a video thing with a video format, so that we could have something up this month. However, I just now realized that I fucking hate it. I hate the idea of editing this brain soup into a video. I hated reading this out loud. I hated listening to our voice reading this out loud. I fucking hate the whole thing.

I fucking hate everything that we have written lately. Everything we write is bad. I hate it. I just want to be rid of it

so. Here! I guess. I'm getting rid of it. Here's the whole written thing. It's about how Fallout New Vegas is actually not all that great. I guess reblog it if you think Fallout New Vegas is not actually all that great. Or don't! Meow.

I think you should give us money on Patreon or Ko-fi so that we hopefully write a little more (and one day, better?) while eating a little more and being slightly less mentally ill

Lately, we’ve been playing Fallout: New Vegas. It’s a game that a lot of people like. It’s a game that a lot of trans women like. It’s also a game that a lot of trans women do not like. One of those trans women happens to think that they're not sure if they like Fallout New Vegas, but that maybe, Fallout New Vegas is boring!

I finished a playthrough of it a few weeks ago, and found that the whole thing was just not very, whelming. It has walking, it has dialogue, it has an ending. It has a bunch of tasks that you can do, which leads to more walking, and more dialogue. And, sure, the tasks are well organized, in a sensible manner for this type of game- you start by getting an objective to go to a place and find a person, by meeting a person, who refers you to a person, who refers you to another place with another objective and that place takes you to another person, and so on and so forth until you arrive at the last person, one of these fuckers, who gives you the last place, Hoover Dam, with the last objective, shoot some of these other fuckers with these other people.

So, sure, it works as a video game that takes you from thing to do to thing to do without leaving you scratching your head, but this doesn’t really make for a story. It makes a bunch of pieces of a story that you can kinda pull together. I guess. So well. That’s why after blitzing through the game to get to the independent route and having the game pat me on the back going like, “oooh, good job! you won!” Just sorta rang like… “excuse me?”

What’s the point of open world games, anyway. Why does everything have to be open world. Like, medium open world, like a semi-open overworld that just, offers an intentionally designed explorable but eminently manageable place that exists to connect the gameplay and provide a little narrative context, but doesn't awkwardly stretch on into infinity. Sonic Adventure, Psychonauts, Yakuza. That kind of open world is nice. But the big open worlds that are just like, hey, here’s a huge field, huge city, huge place that is just huge for the sake of being huge. Why do we need this?

I don’t know, if people enjoy sandbox playgrounds, I guess, whatever- but I can say this much, and it’s just, open world games aren’t a great vehicle for storytelling. How the fuck are you supposed to tell any kind of coherent story when the way it’s presented is as dialogue nuggets dripfed to players as they fuck around? Like, Sonic Frontiers, for instance, is what I’d say is one of the few examples of this done well, and it has some really good dialogue written by Ian Flynn, one of the writers of the Sonic comic books everyone likes. This good dialogue is not really well serviced by the structure of this game, where Sonic is ostensibly under a time pressure to go rescue everyone but can in actuality fuck around infinitely. Like, a lot of the best bits of dialogue are from idle dialogue you get standing around, but no one is going to just stand around in this game unless they’re specifically waiting for the dialogue. So. The way you’re going to get a good story in this game is by, y’know, not fucking around. Going and doing the objectives. And I guess, fishing, so that you can unlock the egg memos, that Big the Cat inexplicably has. So.

So yeah, Sonic Frontiers, cool game, good story, and the open world is made tolerable by having Sonic, be fast. I like the Sonic video game. But this could’ve pretty easily been presented in a Sonic Adventure 1998 but updated, format, with a world that was only as big as it needed to be, and discrete memorable stages, like, y’know, a regular 3D Sonic game, and that would’ve been cool, but instead it’s, big field. And now the next game, probably, has to be big field. Except maybe the Generations/Forces asset use in those cyberspace stages will get itself replaced with some new stages, or at least, like, new assets for new stage themings, and that’d be nice.

Um, what else has happened lately? We’ve been watching a lot of anime and reading manga, I guess. We’ve been watching a lot of movies. We watched Kiki’s Delivery Service. We watched Across the Spider-Verse, and it was great and everything. I have mildly complex feelings about the spider-people being cop kids from cop families, and the flag on the wall owned by one of the cop kids with the cop dad leading everyone to mass headcanon her as trans, but y’know what, whatever. I can wait to talk about that.

We watched Bound. That was cool. That movie’s got a couple lesbians in it. Literally a couple, of them, y’know.

Oh, and also, we’ve been reading a few really good yuri manga. So, y’know what, I think I’m going to write about those later.

Might make this a series. Maybe. We’ll see.

Of all the games I've played in the past few years, I definitely have the most hours in Monster Hunter Generations.

Alot of my favorite games are singleplayer RPGs. I'm cool with pretty much any sorta RPG; JRPG, CRPG, Action RPG; linear and story-driven, or action-centric and open-world; limited customization, or free character creation. Just about anything, really.

I also really like roguelike games, in the vein of something like Mystery Dungeon or Etrian Odyssey. As well as tactics-based games, similar to Unicorn Overlord, Fire Emblem or Tactics Ogre.

I do find that a lot of my time, though, is spent in simulation games like Sims, Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing.

And in terms of character creation, I usually try to make the character I play a bit different each time (though I usually do have a preference). Here's some of my characters as an example.

Current WIPs - September 2023

I last did one of these in March, this year, and truthfully, not an awful lot has changed except the word counts on each fic. Although I don't think I shared those last time. I probably won't this time either because I haven't figured out the totals - some fics are spread across multiple files. Whatever I call these WIPs here, is probably just a working title. Even if I know what I'm gonna call the piece, I don't think I'm gonna share that yet. I think I'll talk about the bigger files in a little more detail and maybe briefly mention the smaller ideas as I remember them. I have three VampireAUs. Not including my first attempt at writing one. I don't think I'll ever work on that again but, never say never. I've kinda developed my own sorta vampire rules that I use across all three of these. Nothing too out of the box but, I try to be consistent with my subjects. ~ Vampire AU the First

Yeah, I'm enjoying this one too. Again, I think it's the dynamic. It's not quite as simple as I've written up there, but that's okay, I can't tell you everything. I don't think this is going to get as long as my other two, I hope to have this finished to post at some point. Hopefully before Halloween! I think I even have a title too. I have VAU4 (VampireAU4) too - that's not very long, and I think I wanna rewrite what I've done to change the tone of it. I don't have enough details to really say much more about it. I ALSO have something labelled as Vampires&Werewolves AU, which... Seems very Twilight, putting the two creatures against each other with a Human in the middle, but... Also, not Twilight because there's no fucking sparkling. What else is there? OH! How could I forget!!! ~ The "Normal" AU

The story of Shelly in the MCR-U basically. Anything labelled as this is in the same timeline/universe as The Origin Story.

This is spread across... Four??? Maybe five (I'm not sure, some of them have subtitles - like the Origin Story was a subtitle of The Normal AU) additional files, not including said Origin Story. I don't know if I'll ever get around to posting everything I write for this, or if I'll just post the Big Milestones. I mean, there's a lot of little scenarios in those files. A lot of words. But I do plan on getting around to the Milestones at some point. But of course it's massive - this spans the entirety of Shelly's career with MyChem. From when she meets them (as you've read) to pretty much present day, almost.

~ The Danger Days fic aka The Sandbox Fic

A... Can you call it a spin off? of my Wife's Danger Days fic, picking up a little after where that left off so I could throw Shelly into that world.

I think I started this just before or during writing Call Me Babe For The Weekend, as a side project, and as a "what if?" kinda deal. Though I think I only wrote some sorta ending to that... Last year? The file for this thing is absolutely huge and I'm a little alarmed by it. I have to figure out how I'm going to present this, because I don't think it fits your stereotypical story format. It would fit an episode format a bit better, really. I don't know, thoughts need to be thunk.

~ The Stripper Fic Not my first Stripper AU, actually. The first is handwritten in, I think it's five notebooks on the shelf behind my desk. That one is, I think over 100k. I don't remember, I haven't looked at the word count totals for some time. Anyway! There's a little more to this one than just... Gerard being a stripper. I took inspiration from something else I read once. Haven't touched this one in a while either.

~ The Succubus Fic

This one is labelled as a "fic" instead of an AU because I do not want it to get as long as some of my other files. It hasn't reached 20k yet so there's a chance I can kinda wrap it up under 30k. Maybe I can do additional chapters later on or whatever but... I don't know.

Oh man, this started out as me attempting to write a threesome, BEFORE the Birthday Fic happened. It ended up in timeout for a long time because Frank wouldn't behave, thus making the inevitable choice between the two really hard! And then, along comes my wonderful wife and is all OKAY BUT WHAT IF and boom, it came out of time out and gained... A lot of words. (Speaking of the Birthday Fic - I have a half finished deleted scene from that kicking around too.)

~ It's A Compliment I Swear I wrote the ending for this last year, July 2022. It's... 😬 Yeah. I might get in trouble for that ending. I just have to get to that point. I have an odd scene in a different file, and a few notes in that file too, but I need to sit down and sorta think about it some more. What else do we have? A HighSchoolAU, something I've dubbed the ChildhoodFriendsAU - which is kinda like the HighSchoolAU but... Happier in aspects. I have some blurbs for ExchangeStudentAUs - both sides (ie; in which Shelly is one, and in which Gerard is one - that second one is fun because I get to play with linguistics/language differences.) I have something labelled The MultiVerse which is... If I can get my act together, might be Shelly's birthday gift next year. Unless she gives me other ideas. I also have a file of blurbs/discussion about "What if everyone was a teacher?" - I don't think that'll get a lot of screentime, but it was something to distract me, something to think about and be silly about for a bit. The New AU is similar to that, I think. Though I might do something with it one day because it's fun. The GoogleDoc is only like, 5k so there's not a lot to talk about currently. The Half Baked Idea is about 10k and has more of a series of plot points. It's a little ✨mystical✨ and supernatural, I think I shared some lines from it a few months ago, but I can't remember off of the top of my head. Again, a bit different but because there still isn't that much of it, I don't have more to say. The last thing is a file called What If? and that is just waiting to be fleshed out and written up. I believe that's kinda a spin off of something I've already written, and I might take that outline and write it properly over NaNoWriMo this year. I'm not sure about that yet though. I think that's it, actually. There might be a file here and there with words in that I haven't touched for Quite Some Time, but these are the main files and ideas I skip between here and there.

more thoughts on ship names (leosagi, sliderbunny, yuileo etc) - more is not bad

So I'd like to suggest a thought - multiple ship tags and names are not actually bad - it's more like a way of detecting what flavor the ship and resulting fanworks will be. let me explain more below. if this sounds a bit dated, that's because I wrote this back in january-march but noticed I hadn't archived it properly and that it needed a bit more writing to finish some thoughts so I'm posting this now, lest I forget it lol. maybe i have also already posted it before but... i cannot find this old version, so i guess not ^^;;

If you like the Yuichi x Leo ship, are annoyed at Leosagi being used as an umbrella term or are just curious abt another fan's thoughts on ship names, here-a we go. Some thoughts on the leosagi and leochi/leoichi ship names in general ^^ 

Some things are a bit more outdated: namely, transfem!12yuinardo has now been steadfastly used as a ship tag for transfem Yuichi x 12Leo, so kudos to that person! Thank you for making this unique tag more common!

so, being in the rottmnt fandom for a bit longer this time (or being longer in a tmnt phase this time) and browsing the leosagi and leochi tags since august last year... has made me realize again that I really enjoy/prefer genfic most times? i like writing romance, but I enjoy writing action a lot more + exploring character writing in general, so that’s probably what my own crossover works will try to feature more too now.

being in tmnt fandom longer this time around, I thought that it was nice ppl still remembered leosagi, but I didn't expect a "new" version of it. Now, seeing thru the history of it (the RabNerd video on Leosagi felt like a nice refresher on TMNT fandom history in general and it’s nice to listen to) and going thru the tumblr tag (that and ao3 being sorta the only reliable archives on fanwork, with the exception of authors deleting their own work and tumblrtags not working as expected at times/finding hidden stuff), I think it's good we have multiple tags. Now about the tag I made up in september, "yuinardo" (I believe I already made two tagging-related posts thinking abt this tag/name way back in autumn 2022)

this YuiNardo ship name was mostly made as a portmanteau to make tagging and finding easier - for the ship Yuichi x Rise!Leo bc I wanted to differentiate it from Leochi/Leoichi but also the old Leosagi ship, because to me that was a bit different. at first I thought people would use the numbering system (03 leosagi etc per tmnt series airing year), but I started to notice that there was a lot more fanon with the ship this time than before. So when Netflix suggested the show to me one august evening after seeing the Rise movie, I started watching the series proper out of curiosity. as I’ve written before in a few places publicly (i think), the series was a bit slow and boring for me at first. But as I kept watching, I suddenly saw where the writing was going and what interesting things about its characters it was telling us. I got invested in the series for it’s strong family themes and how it handled its characters and story arcs, but also the music was something holding it all together for me emotionally. So I became a genuine fan and started reading more of the original Usagi Yojimbo comic too

one commonality I saw in many fanworks is that Yuichi is often changed a lot to fit a fan's own idea of who he should be as a character in relation to Leo or the fan's own setting/AU. This is fairly normal in fandom in general, esp for smth like TMNT. After all, why not play around in the sandbox given by canon? I also noticed fanworks often ignore the canon or worldbuilding set in his own show, and even the other prominent SRTUC characters get ignored/rewritten more than not. Or people make their own new versions with the same name. Which is fine, fanon!Yuichi and other fanversions are interesting. I usually like seeing redesigns in other fandoms and here they are interesting too, but I actually like the character as he is! He's funny to see fail but also fun/funny to watch/listen in general, especially interacting with other characters, whether main cast or one-off characters. He's a blorbo for me now who has taken up permanent root in my fandom/artist brain. I felt like he'd be fun to write in a shipfic or genfic with Rise!Leo bc their personalities are both so similar and so different. They feel like a strangely matching set, despite the shows never having a crossover (and despite Yuichi technically being a whole new original character for the show from the crew to avoid messing up the og Usagi cast too much). I want to write some genfic and Chizu and Kitsune centric fic one day too if I got the time.

Now after becoming a fan though, it’s honestly a bit sad to see people eschew his personality and writing completely - it feels fine that other fans are making AU and fandesign versions based on him, but this just means that when I open the Yuichi Usagi tags or search - I only find these fan interpretations but no versions where another fan is also a fan of the series. Which isn’t to say, that there aren’t other fans posting fanart, but that it’s just a lot less common that people tagging him as “TMNT usagi” or “Rise Usagi” etc. Some fans have said this is disrespectful to Sakai and the Samurai Rabbit crew - some even go on to hate the character (???) which like - it’s a cartoon. why are you angry at it. And these are often the older fans who are around my age (30+) or older, who are fed up with the younger parts of fandom - which I kinda get. I’ve even seen people make stuff up about the series, but I’m not really interested in pursuing that further because you know what. People have grievances about fandom stuff all the time. It’s pointless and a little mindless sometimes. There are so many bigger problems going on in the world. Fandom is something we are all supposed to enjoy. So to argue with another fan - I don’t have the energy to do that anymore. I might correct factual errors here and there, because that feels like it can be a courtesy sometimes. But I’m not interested in laying down blame or building some sort of longer discussion around things that should be fun, if they’re not fun anymore. Honestly, it would be nice if for once, the older and younger parts of TMNT fandoms could respect each other and get along. Like I’m not feeling hopeless about that but it’s just annoying to come back every 5-8 years and see people fighting and arguing about similar things. But that’s another topic entirely. 

I don't honestly quite get the dislike of the character either, but I guess when I was younger, I would have been annoyed by a character like this too. (Foster’s Home comes to mind...where I hated Bloo because of his personality sdfsdfs but I was a very picky child with cartoons in generally)  Personally, to me it seems ppl ignore the show and its writing bc of various aspects: besides simple dislike, it's easy to look at a newer cartoon show in a surface-level way; many still have this stance on cartoons that a "dumb kids show" can't be interesting or have substance; the show falls into many concessions to fit what netflix ordered of the crew. + audience tastes have changed over time - and no, not even talking abt just spiderverse, tho thankfully that has changed what more "general" audiences expect of both an 3D, animated film and a superhero/action flick. (cinemas here even listed it as a 2D animated film a while ago lol. it's a complex bag of factors but audiences + specifically distributors/studios are becoming slowly more receptive to 2D animation again. slightly.)  

What may have been fun to see 10+ years ago for a 3D tv cartoon then, would not fly for viewers now. Even if we ignore internet-posting fans who do like it (who seem to be primarily teens and young adults up to age 24), and how popular the show was at it's premiere (3rd in the UK among kids?), there might be those in the target audience itself as well who do not like it for various reasons. Additionally, viewers are fickle about cartoons in general.  So there are probably many more reasons people have to dislike the character and show that are related to other things. Again, this is just how fandom sometimes works. I’ve been in a lot of other fandoms before where I’m the only one who likes canon or likes writing canon-adjacent, exploring theories in canon etc and this to me started to feel like a similar situation. So I understand when people say the SRTUC fandom is kind of non-existant, if so much of the “fan content” relies on a ship. But saying as someone whose seen sort of “worse” at least there are other people at all and the tags mostly have fanart/fic and not other kinds of stuff, like spam or worse.

Whatever us fans' view might be however, he is still a valid character in the Usagi-verse, AU or not. I've read and listened to interviews with both Stan Sakai and the show crew, and seen artist portfolios with work from the show. The overall experience on the creators' side seems to have been positive. That, and I primarily view the show as a sort of transmedia storytelling venue... almost. It never takes away from the og comic and it adds an interesting alternative future to it, similar to Space Usagi, but as a fun cartoon. It becomes a sort of "gateway tent" for Usagi media and kids who watch this might be inclined to open up the comics, rifle through their parents old books and discover the world of Usagi Yojimbo proper. Like the comic, it also becomes a vehicle for learning for those willing to look things up later after the show, i.e. the yokai lore, customs in modern japan etc. So to me, the show is a net positive and Yuichi Usagi an interesting take on a Usagi descendant. The show is also interesting for me for it's casting (all asian-american cast. hello???) and staff choices as it seemed that everyone was on board with anything Stan Sakai wanted +they tried to put Miyamoto Usagi into the series as much as they could despite Netflix giving them a full limit (or almost a no?) at first - but the series writers and artists included him in an interesting way. So to me the series is good and as a fan, I can see it have interesting crossovers (a lot of the crew also seemed to be big TMNT fans and big UY fans at the same time)

Yuichi is headstrong, openly friendly and impulsive, but also the only one who notices things "outside of the box" more often than the rest of his team. He relies almost entirely on his trained sword skills and complete chance to get out of almost any situations. Leo is sorta painted as a "team clown" and "team faceman", (s1) always trying to make things more lighthearted in stressful situations, which starts to contrast his more strategic nature as we go on in the series. He wonders why he's not trusted (s2) but the thing is, most times he does not tell them his plans, even if they work, so he's seen as impulsive. Together in any shipping or genfic scenarios, I feel like they would feed off each other's lighthearted natures and impulsive instincts, but also work well together bc of how many things they notice, but also, rabbit brain empty, and Leo would be more cautious. That was what I initially kind of imagined for them when I first watched through Samurai Rabbit.

I had a big "mega-crossover" fic idea back in august which would also feature the 03 ship Leosagi, where I could both have a tmnt crossover, write fun action-adventure with the TMNT + Usagi kids and write some sort of neat continuation to what 03 Leo and Usagi might have been going through in a 13-year timeskip. But for that, I thought the tagging would be easier with og tags vs just trying to number leosagi again. Since Rise started in 2018, we often tag it as TMNT 2018, but Usagi Chronicles aired in 2022, (even if production started in 2020) so any attempt to tag it as "2020s leosagi" has just left me more confused. So a unique tag was needed for my own tagging use. I’ve helped make some smoosh names before and this just seemed like a fun thing to do in a fandom I was sort of new to (the ship and SRTUC fandom)

Oh also, I read thru the fanlore article linked above on pairing name conventions and I had totally forgotten some of the ways to make ship names bc I've become so accustomed to portmanteaus and "_shipping" rather than x (used both in general ship names as well as slash pairings) + (preslash or platonic) or even / (slashfic) just bc those sort of conventional ways to tag are harder to find on tumblr bc of its tagging system (special characters make tagging unorganizable or harder to use)

+ I've been more active in modern fandom spaces for only 13+ years, while stuff like ff.net was maybe confusing to use as a young teen. So again, some pairing naming conventions have sorta escaped me over time lol. So it would be interesting to see what else people start to use for this newer ship of Yuichi x Rise!Leo 

Different kinds of names for one pairing are fairly common in any kind of fandom. Pokemon and YGO fandoms have put these on vote for example (thinking of doing this out of curiosity) but that would have to mean a more unified fandom I suppose? Having both a smoosh name (leosagi) and _shipping name (katanashipping) have stuck with the old ship and imo that should be respected because the ship conventions were there way before this newer ship or these newer series came about. I’ve seen many posts now where ppl complain about the tagging, especially the character tagging and the leosagi tag itself, because technically again, totally new ship. So to be a bit upset at that imo is totally understandable. imagine your favourite old ship you’ve been tagging the same is suddenly overtaken by a new, only vaguely related one? I also like the online shipping-related analogy: if you’re looking for a specific game in the store, why would a pair of shoes be tagged? or a different game? you’re only at the store for that one game, but now other stuff is being suggested to you because of other users’ tagging.

Considering those slash-ship naming conventions, I suppose I made the ship name to be more Yuichi-centric a bit - starts with his name, tho again, this was just one way to "flavor" the ship for me - but also specifically for the Yuichi we have on the show, because I enjoy the show and understand why Usagi is written the way he is on it. Mainly that he is given "annoying teen" traits to contrast the changes he goes through in the short time of the 2 seasons + he seems be written with intentional ADHD-coding. + I wanted something more lighthearted and funnier-sounding, so Nardo was added bc that is Leo's nickname on the Rise show that his family uses teasingly, mainly by Donnie. I thought that would make it unique. (And, this is more subtle, but I also thought it was more funny that Nardo sorta sounded like "Naruto" and that Usagi Chronicles has a few Naruto influences in its art and design, so, slightly matching in coincidence.) 

But also Yuinardo just sounds fun and easy to pronounce + I cannot find any other tags that it overlaps with. Main use for tags after all - easy to find and unique - which I think is why the og Leosagi tag prevailed among the other names that popped up back then when the Leosagi 2003 ship first became popular online. I have no idea however if there was a ship for this before this, since I never went looking really (and there weren't much leosagi fic on ff.net then to get any impression of previous fandom activity)

If you want to continue to use Leochi or Leoichi as a tag, that's still fine bc its a big tag and more popular for this ship. But if you also like the Samurai Rabbit show, feel free to use the Yuinardo tag as well, depending on the the use ^^

Going through the fanlore article, I also realized that hey, actually having multiple tags/names is normal in fandoms! It's to make searching/naming for different flavours of pairings easier. I forgor. Let me explain.

the Leosagi as well as the Leochi/Leoichi tags sorta blew up in august after the ROTTMNT movie bc of new or returning fans rediscovering an old ship that's been a constant since the 03 fandom. and ppl posted fanart of the two versions in the tags before this too, but there was a notable uptick in those new fans after august 2022. I think when Samurai Rabbit aired, ppl posted fanart then too. 

The SliderBunny tag existed already for people's own teen!Miyamoto Usagi x Rise!Leo versions and honestly, this could continue as an umbrella tag for any Rise!Leo x Usagi ships going forward, as "Rise Leosagi" has built up more as a tag. or "2018 Leosagi" whichever do you prefer

For 2003 Leosagi, Katanashipping exists bc it's unique to them (the katana-gifting scene in the 03 show) + it is a more specific name and tag, which helps to find it easier or make it more specific. + it just adds the extra flavor of knowing what went on between the two in the show. That was their last canon interaction as far as we know. 

I want to also add here that the 03 version of Miyamoto Usagi is specifically very different. I remember reading an article somewhere which mentioned that Stan Sakai had been a bit upset w the 03 team that they made Usagi so young and different from his comics. I'll repost/add the link another time, but the main point is that the 03 pairing/friendship is quite different from both the existing canon comics and the 12!tmnt iteration of their friendship.

someone pointed out that the yuinardo tag could be for the ship Yuichi Usagi x 12!Leonardo but I do not see it that way for the above reasons. But what could be the name for that then? That's for the shippers of that ship to decide. I've heard some variations of smashing the names together for this like Luichi and YuiLeo (I kinda like that 2nd one myself), but they both sound a bit too much like real names to be tags/ship names.

I do not know the Yuichi x 12Leo name, but I suppose it could follow common convention of adding 12 in front, since that has been done before for people's own versions of 12leosagi as well, so thir's world and see what happens! so it'll be interesting takes off more. There is potential for both angst and comedy in this one. 🤔 what people will start tagging this onnce coed be 12leochi or 12yuinardo maybe even. I do not see it honestly, but I also did not continue watching much of tmnt12 after season 3 bc it was hard to see Leo go through Stuff(tm) again and I did not like how the show approached writing its female characters. So I don't quite get the appeal, but I think if fans see opportunities to write it in interesting/fun ways, why not. I headcanon 12!Leo as a  transfem lesbian, and Yuichi reads slightly transmasc for me, so maybe that's why I don't quite see it bc my fanon ideas are a bit different for them ^^; + it feels like they are from different times from a "when it was made" perspective, the shows' vibes are different (12 is more horror-genre scifi a lot of times while SRTUC does not lean into its horror thematics as much as it could be the name for that then? That's for the shippers of that ship to decide. 

the transfem sapphic version I know one person calls Blue Sapphics, which is cute, but idk if there's a common name that every shipper uses? let me know in the reblogs or comments. 

anyway, larger point also; it's not so bad to have multiple tags (as long as you use them according to what's in the post) and multiple names - so that one tag (leosagi) doesn't have to do all the heavy-lifting and that fans who only want one flavor, can have that. tagging is more like a courtesy but it helps to make finding fanart/other fans of the same thing easier, but they often also follow what becomes commonly discussed and used among a fandom.

ever since the recent fire in devils kettle, everyone’s been out of sorts, including you. seemingly you kept it together better than the rest, it’s not that you didn’t care. you just had your mind set on other things. your sandbox best friend nancy was definitely worried about you. after leaving the incident with the local band that played at the bar, she realized you seemed.. different. she couldn’t put her finger on it quite yet, she was on edge just like everyone else and you weren’t making it any better. but nancy’s concern for your well-being was the least of your problems. you were hungry.

the teacher was giving the class a lecture about the events that took place last night, your snarky comments and eye rolling did nothing but piss others off, finding it offensive that you didn’t take the situation as serious, considering it happened last night. nancy stares you down as you reapply your cotton candy lip gloss, your eyes evert to her stare. “want some? you could use it.” your smart comment was executed so sweetly if she didn’t know any better she’d think you were being genuine. she rolls her eyes bushing away your hand, a glimpse of her blackened finger nails makes you cringe.

“god nance, you need a mani bad. you should get this lady i know to buff those beasts.” your give a light hearted chuckle as you lean back in your seat. “people died y/n.”

you give her a blank stare, eyes slowly blinking over her features as you apply another swipe of gloss, bringing your lips together to rub it in. “anybody that we know?”

it’s way after school when you meet steve after practice, he’s still in some of his uniform. his cheeks are still puffy, eyes still slightly red. you can tell that he’s been crying all day, he still sorta looks teary eyed. you give him a fake pout by the time you reach him. “i heard about tommy.”

his rose tinted lips form a line as he gives you a small nod. you stare at him for a little, manicured nails playing with the silver heart on your necklace. “y’know i was there when it burned down.” you can’t help the smile that creeps on your face when his hopeful eyes finally make contact with your evil ones. “yeah?”

the creaking and snap of a branch makes him jump, the sight of an unknown animal scurrying away makes him pull away from you yet again, grumbling your name. you like the taste of fear on his lips, it’s gonna make this way more enjoyable for you. but right now, his fear is pissing you off. you can physically feel yourself getting weaker, and you need to quicken the paste. you ignore his string of incoherent moans when you finally zip his jeans down and palm him through his boxers. you grin feeling the heaviness against the palm of your hand, “at least you’re hard.”

your hands are placed back on his shaft, finally wrapping your warm lips around his tip. he was thick, making it harder than usual to take him down your throat completely, eyes teary when you pull off him with a pop. "do you take steroids like the rest of the jocks? jesus christ, steve." the way you spew your words are sharp, but he ignored your insult, placing his hand on your cheek. "baby if you slowed down, it'd be easier to take." he flinches when you slap his hand off you.

you take him in again without warning, his head falling back on his shoulders, his breath is quickening, heart thumping. you can feel your saliva froth around the ring of your lips, spit seeping through and dribbling on the ground. steve is already hazy, already close to cumming. you're disgusted, its barely been five minutes since you put your mouth on him. you abruptly pull off of him yet again, his head snaps towards you, confusion written on his face.

"do you miss tommy?"

he freezes at his now, dead friends name. he nearly forgot why he was here with you in the first place, so caught up in his lust and fear. you watch how his face contorts as he searches for his words. “of course i do.”

slowly nodding your head with a sinister smile, “nope.” your pushing him against the tree behind him, he never realized how strong you were. abnormally strong. you’re walking towards him fast, suddenly an awful sent runs through his nose. his heart is racing with sweaty palms, he’s getting ready to defend himself. that is until he’s sees your face.

your mouth grows wide, the sound of a cracking jaw makes his body jump. your mouth nearly engulfs your face, almost fang like teeth sprouting. your skin is pulling at itself, beads of blood spilling on the corners of your mouth. he shouts in complete terror, he tries backing up to run away but quickly remembers he’s pressed against the tree behind him. but it’s too late.

the last thing he sees is your hair covered breast, and hears a loud squawk coming from the pit of your throat. 

finally, finally you get to feed. felt like you’ve been eating forever when you finally sink your teeth into his chest. ripping him from limb to limb, the warmth of his blood coating your throat deliciously. this is just what you needed, and steve harrington tastes just as good as you thought he would.

Could you state a game as example of player focused vs gm focused? I think I'm capable of knowing what you mean but I want to make certain i 100% understand before rambling on about unrelated nonsense in your askbox

omg its sorta like dnd is player focused to the point the gm has a secret nother book they have to get and theres this like, mythology of every campaign needs to be this extreme open sandbox and the players can do everything and have every option available, this is nonexistent in games that priorities the gm these types of games tend to have phases that the gm needs to verbally announce or like the players have a narrower focus of what they need to do within the phases , vs the amount of work a dnd gm needs to do to game prep these other theories of design prioritize making things formulaic and small prep, like many pbta games or like anything ive read/played recently that uses the clock mechanics

but in play i find that most of the game when played as Is is taken up by talking about the rules and mechanics and roleplaying is done in small framed scenes, which like thats all to say its fine but i think myself and the people i most often play find this sort of thing restricting for long term play, so id rather be flayed alive to mean that id rather take the burden of making the structure while the players can just embody their characters

a good non-dnd example of a player driven design is unknown armies (even though im certain many class types were not playtested as characters the fact that it doesnt really hurt gameplay is a testament to the design imo)!

Dustin is constantly falling asleep, like all the time

Pearl likes to play with the dolls but sometimes plays with the trains with Rusty

Dinah likes to play restaurant and will play with nearly anyone that is mildly interested in playing with her. She and CB also like to go on the seesaw together

The Rockies love the monkey bars and anything requiring balance so much and it’s the only thing that play when they go to the playground

Greaseball doesn’t really pay much attention to the fact that girls like him. He is also very very fond of his plushie and gets very very mad if he can’t find it at nap time

Electra doesn’t really like to interact with the others that much other then with the Components but sometimes he likes to play in the sandbox

Dinah can be a bit of a crybaby sometimes, and so can Dustin. Even if something small happens they’ll both start crying

Rusty is one of the smartest and brightest in the class actually

Greaseball often gets mad quickly and will knock stuff over or just cry and throw a tantrum. In fact he has sometimes sent himself to timeout

Dinah, Dustin, Greaseball and Ashley have “little kid dated”. Dinah and Dustin had cried together so much that they bonded and began to hold hands because they were friends then others thought they were dating so they thought that they were too. They just didn’t understand what was going on. Greaseball and Ashley started “dating” because they both liked to color and they both liked peanut butter crackers. Eventually Ashley told Greaseball that she liked Dustin and Greaseball took the “break up” very hard. It’s all just silly tho cuz no one understands feelings lol

Olly: Rambling With Bees

Drabble that turned into nearly four pages of Olly ranting about a guy he has a crush on at his bees. He spends most of it either talking about how pretty the guy is, how he shouldn’t make a move because he’s divorced and recovering from all that, OR just mad at himself for not noticing how bad his crush had gotten. He’s a fool and would not let me work on literally any other WIPs until I finished this one. Idea brought about because of some silly fun sandbox play :D

All those years of monk therapy bullshit did kinda pay off. Sorta. At least enough so Olly can notice when he needs to decompress before he seriously spirals out again. He’d let his staff at the bakery know he’d be at home today, and they could handle themselves alone for twenty-four hours without setting a fire. Hopefully. Probably. Fuck it they’ll be fine Lemon’s shift lead.  

After a frankly shit night of sleep, full from a big breakfast and a little stoned, the tiefling was finally steady enough to try to get his shit together. Olly steps out into his back garden, does a quick glance around the perimeter, and takes a deep breath. It’s just early enough that the spring morning still feels a little crisp, the delicate scent of bee balm and lavender from the tidy garden beds drift over on a light breeze, and the sun is already high enough to beam down in shafts through the oaks dotted around the yard. All in all, not the worst morning to have a heart to heart with yourself. Could be worse. Could be raining. Olly fiddles with the little carved wooden ring around his middle finger, flicking the spinning inside ring once and watching as it flashes bright yellow. The glow brightens for a breath before sinking into the tiny carved animal faces on the ring and puts them in stark relief against the dark brown wood, the little bee glowing the brightest of them all. Handy dandy animal friendship spell in place, he heads over to the back of the yard, plucking a handful of blooms as he goes before flopping inelegantly in front of the largest of the hives in the center of the neat little trio of bee houses along the back fence. He sighs loudly, letting all the air push out of his lungs and folding his flower-filled hands on his stomach to settle in for a long stupid emotional talk. 

 “I wanna try askin him out. Fuckin gods above do I wanna try, but I shouldn’t. Don’t wanna make him feel uncomfortable cause I decide ta try flirtin with him like some shit fer brains asshole who can’t take a hint and just be his friend,” he grumbles as he huffs loudly to himself. A small swarm of bees file out of the hive and start buzzing around him, a couple landing on the flowers on his chest and getting to work doing their bee thing. Olly smiles softly at the sight before the image of the previous night pops back into his head and he scowls. He can easily recall how his fingers had wound through long brown hair and braided it away from that stupidly pretty man’s face. All because Olly just couldn’t resist trying to take care of him after the man had backed Olly up in some dumbass bar fight. “I was pushin my fuckin luck tyin his hair back fer him and I knew it. He was kinda tipsy after all, and yeah we’d just wrapped up a bit of a scuffle at the bar so maybe he wasn’t all that tipsy after that, but he…he uh…after I fixed his hair fer ‘em he-shit-well he…he kissed my cheek and had me walk ‘im back ta his room. I bolted before he’d even closed the door all the way. Just wanted it ta be an actual date so bad so I could kiss his stupid fuckin hand goodnight or somethin and didn’t trust it not ta show of my fuckin dumbass glass head,” Olly growled low, his chest rumbling with the sound. There was an answering buzz from the hives around him and he sighed, sinking further into the thick clover below as he focused on breathing again. Another bee landed on his hand. He stopped growling. 

“Yeah if he didn’t wanna give us a go he wouldn’t be a prick about it. Put on the fuckin five-o boss man voice and all, walk me through all the feelings cause he’s good like that, put me down real gentle. Yeah sure. He’d do that. Stay friends after the pity period too. Wouldn’t be the worst outcome,” he says, wincing as he imagines how that talk would go. Might have to bite the bolt and just let that happen anyway. Get it all out in the open. Shit he didn’t wanna have to sit through that. More bees came out of the hives, slowly beginning to dart in the air above him, little yellow and black bodies humming all together. Some broke off to go into the flower beds and others stayed to investigate their prone keeper and the handful of flowers on his chest. 

“I’d feel like a dickhead tryin ta take him out if he wasn’t done processing his divorce. Not like I’m just tryin ta be his friend ta get into his pants or nothing, cause I fuckin ain’t he’s just a good person and I like hangin out with him. Fuck I don’t want him to think that’s the only reason I wanted ta be friends. We were friends before I found out about the divorce yeah but…I didn’t bring him soup or nothin before I knew about it. Fuck even worse what if he figured out he really only thought I was hot enough for a lay? He already told me he didn’t wanna rebound date, that his feelings were all mixed up and he didn’t wanna hurt me or nothin so we should start as friends. I get that. Super. I don’t wanna be a rebound. I like being his friend. I do. Fuck he’s so worth takin a risk though. We could have a seriously good thing brewin,” Olly said softly, recalling the way the man looked when he’d kissed his knuckles on impulse. He’d flushed red, shit he was cute when he got flustered, but still the man was so headstrong and funny. Hells even when he was recovering from his work injury and Olly’d practically broken into his flat he’d starting trying to tidy up. Who does that? If Olly knew more maybe he could've helped with that too, like where he liked to keep his mugs, how he organized his books, how he liked his clothes folded away, what hangs up what doesn’t. Do they do anything fancy with his uniform? He’d always looked put together the handful of times he’d dropped off a surprise lunch basket at the precinct. Would it help if Olly ironed it the night before? It hit him all at once then and he gasped, clutching his hands around the flowers and growling low, tail lashing on the ground as he sucked in another breath to try to keep himself from whining like an injured beast.  

“Fuckin shit I’d move across the fuckin mountains fer this guy! When the fuck did that happen?! When the fuck did I start thinking about this dumb fuckin crush like that? I ain’t even told him about being a fuckin bait dog! Shit on a stick and fuck me sideways I gotta pull back. Hells below he gets so soft sometimes though. Wanna make him feel safe enough to do that and know I won’t be a judgy asshole. Bring him flowers and lunch and help him unpack around his place and cook stupid little date night dinners with him and try ta get him ta dance with me after doing dishes and watch the little cousins together cause once they warm up a bit he’s fuckin good with them and he’s fun ta be around and-fuckin shit I am so lost on this guy how did I not notice!?” Olly rambled, getting louder and more angry at himself as he went, growl rumbling back to full force by the end. He took a deep breath, dropping the flowers onto his chest so he could press the heels of his palms into his eyes hard enough to see swirling colors behind the closed lids. Olly let out a long string of nonsense infernal before sighing again, slowly moving his arms back down onto his chest to avoid hurting any of the bees still darting around him. The swarm had gotten the air around him buzzing, but already bits of them were slowly filtering back into their hives now that the flowers he’d brought over had been worked over. That’s his cue. Gotta bite the bolt. Now or never.  

“I gotta get over this. Dammit I am not gonna fuck up a good thing cause’a my dumbass feelings,” he growled loudly, huffing again and rubbing his cheeks hard to try to pull himself back together. “I’m takin the day off, baking myself silly, and gettin back ta work tomorrow. No random drop in visits for at least a week. Maybe two. I gotta back off. Distract myself or somethin. Hells might be time I do another fuck me show. Always manage ta pull at least one date outta that. Fuck it if it doesn’t work at least I’m tryin somethin.”

1:34 in the morning and goddamn i just had to write the one shot

Shouyou knew something was wrong. From the moment she stepped into his house and greeted his mom. From the moment she hugged Natsu and sang her old nursery rhyme. And from the moment she sat down at the dinner table, hands clenched in tight balls by her side as she maintained her same fake smile.

She was his childhood friend, they’d play games outside in the heat of the summer, and gossip about how annoying their younger siblings were with one another.

It must’ve been a shock when she asked for “Shiko” and he responded with his new low masculine voice. And it had to have been a shock when he ran down the stairs and hugged her, his breasts compacted in a tight binder. And god, of course it was a shock when he said he wasn’t just a tomboy like he thought when he was younger, but rather, an actual boy. But she made no signs of discomfort. No looks of confusion or disgust. She just smiled. And Shouyou figured that would be the end of it. It was just Shouyou, he was no longer “Shiko”.

But nothing lasts forever, and the signs just kept showing up. But she was his childhood friend. You trust those people with your life. He can’t just throw it away. So he ignores the stares from her when she thinks he isn’t looking. And he ignores how she slightly scoots away whenever he gets too close. And sure, he’ll ignore the chuckles from her when she’s texting on her phone and he asks “what are you talking about?” And she just looks him up and down. And yeah, whatever, he’ll ignore the now blatant stares she gives him when they pass each other in the halls of school. Because of course l, who wouldn’t act that way when their childhood friend who was a girl is now a boy. And now that you’ve set up going to the same school as each other, and meeting each other for dinner twice a week, and joining the volleyball club as a manager, who wouldn’t feel a little uncomfortable.

But their childhood friends. And childhood friends stick together no matter what.

“Do you have a crush on anyone?”

“Hey, where’s this coming from?” Shouyou asks, flustered.

“C’mon, there’s gotta be someone.” She groans.

“Well i mean, there’s this guy-“ He starts, but in the corner of his eye, he watches her face flinch, as if a fly has just landed on his nose. He ignores it. “You should know him, he’s actually on the volleyball team.”

“He is? Well now you gotta tell me.” She leans in close to Shouyou’s face.

“Well uh, you know the guy that’s always kind of mean to me? The one with the black hair and bangs?” She almost lets out a chuckle at Shouyou’s description.

“Yeah~” she answers.

“I don’t know how it happened, one day I just sorta knew. And it was crazy because you never really expect that sort of thing to happen to you but then it does and like it drives you nuts and you don’t know what to do and- sorry I’m babbling”

“Well it sounds like you got your work cut out for yourself.” She gets yo to leave, flexing her obvious fake smile.

But they’re childhood friends, he’s got nothing to worry about.

Shouyou had run late to morning practice. His alarm didn’t go off and now he was 5 minutes late. He hiked like never before so he wouldn’t be any later than he already was, and he ran off his bike and rushed to open the gym doors.

“-totally a weirdo.” He’d run in on something. She was showing them all something on her phone.

Everyone was looking at him weirdly. They all looked.. confused? Scared? Disgusted? Mad? He couldn’t make it out.

He walked toward the middle of the room where everyone was surrounding her and his phone which obviously had something on it. He looked at the bright screen. It was a photo of the two of them in a sandbox when they were younger, before he transitioned. His hair was in tight pig tails and he was wearing a long float summer dress.

Shouyou stumbled away from where everyone was gathered. Thoughts rushing through his head. WHI did she- Why would she- what made her even think to do this.

“Doesn’t she look just adorable?” She asked the group, looking over at someone in the middle. He followed her eyes and spotted Kageyama.

No.

No please no.

He wasn’t supposed to know.

No one was.

This isn’t fair.

Their childhood friends.

He ignored everything.

He made sure she was comfortable.

Was she really faking it the entire time?

Did they really say that about S3? Because that is hilarious af.

Yeah they didn’t use the word filler but this sorta amounts to saying filler lol:

“We knew 5 was going to be the last season and we go—we gotta start showing more of our cards. Season 3 was more like we’re kinda playing in a sandbox. That’s what it felt to me. So right season 3 was “playing in their sandbox” until they got back into the UD, the supernatural plot, the actual answers. Granted there were some things that obvs set up s4, but they could have been handled differently. Wish the sandbox could have included focusing on character writing for all but ah well.

2. Where do you get your fic ideas?

Uhhhhhhhhhhh???? I guess my sorta twisted sense of humor and the fact that my mind is always in the gutter? I think all the smut is attributable to my 13 months of pandemic celibacy. I never had to think too much about sex before that cause I had a pretty active social life. Then the longer my isolation period lasted, the longer I was forced to spend inside my head with my memories and idk it's hard to explain and will quickly get into TMI territory, but I don't think I could be as descriptive or imaginative if I hadn't spent so much time alone.

18. Do you enjoy research?  Which fic of yours required the most research?

It depends. I have a mind that needs to verify information and find sources and know everything and that can get exhausting when it leads to me researching stuff for a fic that I don't really need to research. So I'd say I don't enjoy when that happens. But big aspects of my fics where accuracy is important, I do enjoy the research for that.

So far Throw Pillows required the most research. Law School Au is quickly going to blow that away. I've already got footnotes in my draft cause I'll be including cases. So... 🤓😂

20. Do you prefer writing AUs or canon fics?

Canon-ish is probably my favorite. I do like playing within the canon sandbox, but then taking obvious liberties. So my canon smut series is something I'm really enjoying.

21. Do you prefer writing chaptered fics or one-shots?

One-shots. And I'm including the handful of 2 chapter fics in those cause I only split those to give y'all something early and because people have said they prefer chapter breaks to getting 20k on a page. But I like those because I can write them in 1-2 weeks and be done with them.

Throw Pillows was mentally taxing for a few reasons. I had some weird stuff happening in my ask box with it. I guess that's what happens when you tackle a lengthy WIP. It was almost enough to dissuade me from ever writing something that long again. But then they had to make Kate an attorney and now I will probably suffer some more of the mentally taxing bs as I slowly roll that fic out.

24. How do you choose whose POV to write in?

It all comes down to the purpose of the fic and whose viewpoint/inner dialogue will serve that purpose best. In my canon smut, I've been trying to balance POVs. But I often default to Kate because Lucy is more of mystery canon wise and I'm worried about making assumptions about her past that could get Jossed in the future. So in the 2x06 fic when I wanted to write her as being super upset about something, I chose Kate because then I didn't have to figure out what she was so damn upset about.

And then in 'What's His Name?' it had to be in Lucy's POV because I needed to make it clear that she was worried about Kate and going along with the plan because she loves Kate. It would have been difficult to get across her genuine acceptance of the scheme had I gone with Kate and written something that would have been 10000% more cracky cause Kate's mind throughout it would have been a non-stop rambling anxious monologue.

Speaking of rambling, I shall shut up now and get back to 2x07 smut.
