To the surprise and perhaps disappointment of some people, the supposed remake of Sonic Heroes had low expectations and were just rumors, so I made this drawing, a parody of SpongeBob SquarePants XD , it is clearly well maybe someday, Although there may be hope in the future if SEGA decides so, in any case it is still one of my favorite Sonic games... This is probably a niche topic - but with how long you are a sonic fan, do you have some interesting examples of "revisionism" about the franchise and peoples reception of it. For example the infamous "sonic was never good xd" , things like that, lies that just get propegatiated by weird naratives and naive consumers.

I mean the general thing is that I'm getting old enough now to understand the generational shift in things. People who are now in their mid-to-late 20's putting games like Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog on pedestals.

I've talked for years about how there were games I played when I was 8-10 years old that, at that age, I had no idea were "bad games" and thus developed nostalgia for. The one I always go back to is Awesome Possum. To a 11 year old in 1994, Awesome Possum did not seem like a bad game.

Or maybe it did. I don't know. 1994 was a long time ago, and the thing about nostalgia is that memories get sweeter with age. So I don't remember hating it as a kid, but maybe I did think it was weird, at least.

Shadow the Hedgehog is a bad game. I will hear no arguments otherwise. You can love Shadow the Hedgehog, I won't deny you that, and I may even help you celebrate that game, because feeding on that kind of positivity is fun in and of itself. But on its own terms, taken at face value, it is objectively soul crushing.

And Sonic Heroes is a game that is deeply unremarkable. Recently when the fake rumors of a Sonic Heroes remake were being surfaced, I often described the game as "Not bad enough to make fun of, and not good enough to love." Which is its own special kind of curse and may even be worse than simply being "bad."

But for a person who was the right age when these games came out, their memories sweeten with age, and they seek to recapture what it felt like to be 11 years old and playing Sonic Heroes for the first time. And hey, unlike Awesome Possum, Sonic Heroes is not actually that bad of a game. So it's even easier to reinforce that nostalgia.

Quality is not an objective, timeless scale to weigh things on. Quality changes on the moment it's presented it, and the mood it has been received with. Quality changes. Which is why, in the right audience, even a soul-crushing game like Shadow the Hedgehog can be enjoyable.

I don't know where I'm going with this but it will always be funny to me how many people 10-15 years younger than me express love about Sonic Heroes just because they were too young to have a bigger, more nuanced critical opinion about it when it was new.

Apparently there's rumors that Sonic Heroes is getting a remake, so I made a pact with my friend that if that actually happens we'll post our selfshipping art publicly. Time for a fandom check! What's been going on in the Sonic world lately?

Well I'm certainly still excited for Sonic Superstars. It'll probably be the only game I buy during the holiday season...maaaaybe the new Samba de Amigo game, if money is good enough (it probably won't be). Interested in seeing how an actual new classic Sonic game will be handled.

Sonic Prime seems to be doing well. I'm certainly not paying for Netflix just to watch a cartoon show, but it seems to be doing okay without me. I've at least seen plenty of gifs from it. You know when you see a constant stream of gifs and screens from a thing, they're appealing to the Tumblr crowd well. Things have been getting a bit "Sonadow" around these parts. More power to ya.

I've been hearing rumors of a possible-maybe-but-probably-not-actually-happening remaster of Sonic Heroes lately. That would be great, as that was one of my favorite 3D Sonics growing up. I've heard that the Sonic people are considering doing remakes and shit as well as making brand new games, which is certainly the style of the time. My money would be on a Sonic Adventure 1 remake first, though. That nutty game could benefit from a redo.

What Sonic game do you want remake?

Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 are long overdue candidates for me. According to some rumors SEGA already worked on them but they got shelved after Forces sold well. If it's true I guess they're saving those remakes for a rainy day, maybe if Frontiers bombs? Or maybe they're saving them for the next 4+ year long wait between mainline releases. Who knows, but I'd love to see them again, all currently available ports don't cut it anymore.

Sonic Heroes is another game I've talked about in the past surrounding the Sonic remakes debate. That game could really use a new engine, overhauled physics, reworked AI (especially for the team battles), level design tweaks, game design tweaks, special stage tweaks and more. I'm currently livestreaming a full playthrough on Twitch with mods, so I'm pretty up to date on the amount of issues it has :P

And while we're at it, the Advance trilogy could also benefit from a complete remake. Widescreen, enhanced physics, less dickish level design (which, funnily enough, can be mostly fixed by making the games widescreen) and a remastered OST (I mean, fans have already tried)

Anyway, apparently SEGA wants Yakuza, Sonic, and Persona to become annual franchises.

(Like a Dragon is Yakuza's Japanese name.)

Anyway, the site also lists a previous rumor about P6 being in 2025, but given Metaphor's development hell, and P5's previous development hell, I'm not too optimistic.

(Also don't expect SMTV designs haha.)

Among these, Sonic being annualized is not really news, though this is clearly meant to refer to 3D games I suppose, or at least including 2.5D games. Given the Sonic Heroes remake though, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a Billy Hatcher remake as well, as it uses the same engine. Shadow the Hedgehog would require intense rework, but also a lot of its assests are actually external (you can look it up from Sonic Retro).

Yakuza sort of goes from annualization to biennialization like Sonic, and I'm not familiar enough with its extensive spin-offs to make a judgement (pun not intended).

The talk about remakes make me interested. In the case of Sonic, this likely refers to Unleashed, which given its Japanese name, World Adventure, and its overall themes, was basically the final Adventure title lore-wise.

Lost World, co-developed by Nintendo, would need to be remade from ground up to avoid legal issues, so it would be more of a reimagining, unless they make it exclusive to Nintendo consoles, but I think SEGA learned their lesson. At least I hope.

Forces also would need a more intense reimagining, though gameplay wise, the biggest issue was the level design, which, while taking time, can be dealt more easily.

A Sonic Colors Ultimate rerelease would be funny. It would be probably be done quickly, but it would be kind of admitting their own mistakes, so SEGA's stocks would be effected.

For Persona remakes, do not expect P4AU, since that wasn't developed by Atlus. PQ games were developed by Atlus themselves though, so those might get an updated rerelease for Nintendo consoles.

Of course, everyone is expecting the main numbered titles, but we will cross their bridge when time comes. Since every single one of them require a novel length post, especially due to P2-P3 connections, and rereleases of Aigis prequel, and P1 mobile spin-off, though we covered P4 briefly already.

For P6, the talk about semi-open world makes me immediately think of Lucifer, and co., or the Mothers from Strange Journey, since those are the only two groups large enough to sustain such a premise. Talk of more open Social Links makes me immediately think of Devil Survivor, so I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be thinly veiled Devil Survivor, or TWEVY plot in Persona mechanics.

Guess people got bored with rumor milling about an Adventure remake every three months so now they're pretending there's gonna be a Sonic heroes remake.

People just randomly decide to make shit up because they hate Sonic so much that they'd rather talk about anything EXCEPT the content of the games. They'd prefer to invent the rumor of a remake and complain about the idea of it instead of just talking about the game itself.

Amid the Sonic Heroes in UE4 remake rumors I'm seeing, I have a grand idea.

Remake Secret Rings and Black Knight- keep the aesthetics and the story, keep the music (BY GOD KEEP THE AESTHETICS AND MUSIC OF SECRET RINGS). BUT. Make the games good.

I'm just saying the Story Book series can still take off. I remember voting on the official sega poll to get the third one based on Greek myth. It can still take off.

Just make it an SA2 clone. Take the auto running motion control bullshit, toss it into a wood chipper, and just make it an SA2 clone. I will accept another Boost game too but you're sleeping on SA2 sonic mechanics.
