(A/N: It's kind of nice and out of my normal style to write a much more wholesome romance, but I can't say I dislike it. You gotta have the fluff with your angst. And since this is going with yandere Levi it's good to have a bit of a change of pace. Comment to be added to the taglist!)

It felt like the air had been knocked out of her lungs.

"An Island Devil?"

"I know, it's crazy, trust me I already know that. Especially after everything they did to Bertholdt and Annie. I don't know, I just feel...good about myself and safe around her."

She clears her throat, trying to keep the wad of emotion down in her chest so it doesn't spill out all at once. "And you say her name is Evelyn? I..uhm- tell me about her-"

Reiner leans back with a shy smile. "Well for starters she's short, really short, but she's also fun, and super sweet, an impressive fighter, and pretty on top of that. Like the ultimate package."

"How did you meet her?"

"When I was under cover she was one of the Scout officers, I didn't get to see a whole lot of her since she was part of Captain Levi's squad, but still. As far as Island Devils go she's one of the sweetest people I've ever met."

"Does she know who you are?"

Now Reiner frowns, apparently a sore spot for him. "Yes she does, when we fled I exposed who I was to her...and she said she hated me."

She tries to hide her relief with a deep breath, it wouldn't help anything to outwardly show how glad she was of that.

"So you'll never see her again."

"Until we return to Paradis to reclaim the Founder it seems unlikely." His mood changed, his tone becoming more and more depressed.

"That's too bad. She sounds wonderful."

"Yeah...she was." Reiner rests his elbow on the table, staring into the wooden pattern. "By now she's probably married off to Captain Levi, no screw that, why should I respect him with a title, to Levi."

"Who's Levi?" She didn't know who he was but if he was able to give Reiner closure with this unattainable crush she'd be thankful to him.

"Selfish bastard. Captain of the Survey Corps and man does he abuse that. Always unfairly punishing everyone and demanding respect." He shakes his head. "Creep watched Evelyn like some kind of sick stalker. There were many times I got punished for being anywhere near her. Asshole."

"Maybe you just didn't understand their dynamic?"

"Impossible, it was so obvious he was sick in the head. But no one saw it but me."

Bravely she reaches out to touch his hand. "It'll be okay Reiner, you can move on now. Forget about what happened their and live the rest of your life in peace."

"The rest of my life." He scoffs. "What short time I have left."

The thought made her wince, but he had a point. If she didn't try harder he'd be killed and they'd never have that life she dreamed of, even if it was for a short time.

"That's why you need to make the most of it."

Reiner nods, taking in her words. "You're right, sitting here sulking over what could have been won't get me anything but wasted time." A smile comes to his face. "Thanks kid, you always make me believe in myself."

She blushed a little at the nickname, even after all of this he still saw her as the same girl from their childhood. "No problem, you're my friend and I want to help you."

Reiner's face turns solemn again but before he can speak his mind a soldier comes up to their table.

"Reiner Braun, Commander Magath has sent for you."

"Right now? Is it urgent?"

"He said to come right away."

Reiner offers an apologetic glance before standing and hurrying to follow the young soldier, leaving her alone.

She couldn't put her finger on it, but she had a bad feeling about all of this.

She had been pining after Reiner for years, it started as a childhood crush, Reiner was such a hothead who looked for validation from anyone, training to be the next Warrior. All he wanted was to prove to himself and others that he had what it took to be someone.

While she never had the same calling or convictions that he did she couldn't help but admire him from afar. Their parents were enough of friends that the two played together once or twice, but once he began his training in earnest, she was all but forgotten in his world.

"I'm a man now kid, I don't have time for childish games." He had said when she asked him innocently to spend time with her. He always called her "kid" because Reiner felt like he needed to be over someone, even if it was just one person who wouldn't push him down.

Not long after that he was deployed to the Devil Island, destined to be a great hero that everyone would speak of for generations to come. They were to take back the Founder, to become honorary citizens and gain more rights and privilege than any of their time.

"Just imagine it kid, me, Reiner Braun, the greatest Warrior who ever lived!" His eyes sparkled as he finished recanting his vision.

"You'll be the greatest Reiner." She smiled with him, she liked seeing him happy. No one deserved it more than him in her mind.

Weeks turned into months, which turned into years. They both grew, separately. No one knew what became of the group who set out, everyone having their theories that they ended up captured and eaten by those devils. Fear entered as people worried what this could mean for their safety if even the Titan Warriors couldn't stop these barbarians.

Still she never gave up hope, believing that some day Reiner would come back to her. A grown man by now but still someone she could remember as that sweet boy. She hoped that the war hadn't hardened him to much, and he'd still be open to her friendship, and more in time if she had any luck. Someday he'd return to her, the same old boy who set out to make something of himself.

When he returned, he was changed, older and more sure of himself, but with almost a hidden sadness no one dared ask about. It was Reiner, but he was different.

The two ran into each other casually, bumping into the other as they walked. Subtle confusion giving way to recognition.

"It's you." Thankfully for her he didn't sound upset by that.

"It's me." She made sure to give him one of her biggest smiles.

"It's been years, how have you been?"

How she missed that smile of his, the air of confidence. "Well enough, keeping myself busy?"

"What, married?" He furrows his brows.

A blush comes to her face. "What-? No- no no- just- working- I'm not- I wouldn't- well not that I wouldn't- but I'm just not married- or seeing anyone- right now-" The blush heightened as she mentally chastised herself for sounding so stupid.

"Oh- well, hey, maybe we should catch up sometime, we're still friends right? Even after all this?"

"Of course- of course we're still friends, you can tell me about your mission."

He smiles sheepishly. "Well I can tell you what I'm allowed, some of it's still classified."

"Right, I understand."

"No sweat, I'll uh, I'll let you know. Okay?"

"Perfect- sounds great."

"Catch you later then."

"Later, for sure."

She watches him walk off, analyzing each word passed between the two for any blunders on her part. She had her chance now and she wasn't going to blow it. She was going to sweep him off his feet, he wouldn't know what to expect.

What she didn't expect was that he was in love with someone else.

"In love-?"

Reiner scratches the back of his neck. "Yeah, I know, crazy right."

"With who?" A deep knot of emotion started to build inside her.

"It's going to sound completely ridiculous, I mean, there's no chance right."

"Reiner, tell me."

"Well before I tell you, don't judge me for this okay?"

"Just tell me."

A small grin comes to his face. "It's this girl named Evelyn-"

"And where did you meet her?"

"It's funny you say that because, she's uh, she's one of those Island Devils."

Romantic Comedy

Super light-hearted drama. This is the type of drama that is very easy to watch and if youre feeling down or heavy, it can help you feel better. The plot is not new but now executed like other cliché series. The different troopes give you views in each stages of relationship. My fave is about the marriage life of Lee Yoo-jeong and Yang Jin-woo.

I learned a lot about romantic aspects in this series. There's always a 2 sides of the coin, people in a relationship doesn't share everything with each other. The other half tends to keep something to their partner thinking it is for the betterment. Yet, sometimes it leads to unnecessary miscommunication. It made me realize that being open and letting them know that your are open to discuss any problems without judging them first will be a game changer.

Another one is giving extra time, gifts, and affection is very important. Even just a single gesture is actually enough and letting them know you love them from time to time matters, and that applies to both parties, in a boat you need to paddle on both sides to keep balance.

This series made me realize that I'm always very cautious with my heart all my life that it made me cry during the ending coz want to fall in love carelessly and ridiculously. I realize that wanted to do cringey things too. That I regretted letting few people passed in my life without giving them a chance and up until now my coward when it comes to my true feelings. I need to be honest with myself someday 😔💨
