I'm pretty fresh out of the whole quest, but I've pretty much covered/found all of Enkanomiya lore at this point (save for looking into the Vishap Research Lab!), and I just love when stories offer two sides of a plot. I love hearing different point of views of the same events that occurred, and I think that is the big thing at least in Enkanomiya where they push you to listen to both sides: the ones who hated the Sunchildren and those who pitied them. And I think the perfect icing on top was being able to interact with the Sunchildren. They don't offer us much but you can just see what they were thinking about and really just put into perspective, they really were just kids who were manipulated.

It sucks though; I would have loved to have some Jibashiri Sunshade still hanging around so we can get a perspective from them, but of course, because they were saving their own skin, they would have already made it to the surface before their afterimages could be left behind...

After about a week of trying to write it off as just some odd noises, you were starting to really lose sleep over the ominous scratching and scraping noises surrounding your cell at night. Being in a prison watched over by a nonbinary fifteen year old and a talking rabbit was unnerving enough, but you could deal with that. At least the rabbit provided entertainment. But the way your cell door moved in an almost controlled manner at night? Ahahahah. Nope, you were not putting up with that.

Last night, you’d even purposefully stayed up just to wait and see if anything would happen while you were watching- and it had, relentless sounds of scratching and dragging metal near your doorway bothering you all night. You had gotten no sleep, staying up the entire time after that out of sheer terror.

However, you and your feeble arms had no chance of defeating whatever ghosts had decided to torture your sleep schedule, so you knew trying to do something against it on your own was a futile attempt. The next most logical choice was to ask Es for help, them being the prison guard and all, but you already knew that poor kid was getting worked to the bone with absolutely no pay, so you preferred to leave them alone.

So here you were, standing in front of the cell door for prisoner 003, hovering your fist in front of it for a moment before knocking down on the cold metal.

Fuuta looked disgruntled as he peeked his head through an opening in the door, red hair disheveled and dark circles under his eyes as he glared up at you with a slight pout on his face. “What do you want?” His voice was in his usual growly tone, but softer than he used it with most when it came to you.

You gave the boy a sheepish grin. “Um.. sooo… I have this little… problem back at my cell.”

He narrowed his eyes at you as he released his grip on the door, letting it open properly as he leaned against the doorframe. “How’s that my issue? Shouldn’t you bug the little brat about that sort of thing?” He huffed, tapping his foot against the floor in impatience.

“Well- It’s. Uh. It’s complicated.”

He continued to stare at you, not convinced as he just looked at you with a sort of judgement in his eyes. He sighed in defeat after a moment before stepping back, a silent invitation for you to come in. You complied, shuffling past the redhead and taking a moment to glance over his cell- it was esentially the same as yours, except with a couple of drawings from Amane taped up against the walls. “What’s the issue?”

You fell silent for a moment. “Well- So- Uh- I think my cell is haunted???” 

Fuuta blinked at you.

“You.. think your cell.. is haunted?” You nodded. He scoffed, looking at you for a moment as if to tell if you were being serious before crossing his arms. “No it isn’t.”

“It is! I swear, it is! There’s these- noises- and--”

“Noises?” He grinned at you. “Oh, how horrible. You sure sound like you’re in really grave danger--” You elbowed him at the stomach, succesfully getting him to shut up before glaring at him.

“Lemme show you, then.” Fuuta blinked at you, hesitating for a moment before shrugging with an air of forced boredom. “If it’s a safety concern, I’m sure i can convince Es to let you sleep on a mattress on the floor in my cell tonight. Then you can see for yourself.”

Hours passed, you having headed back to the commons area to converse with some of the other prisoners for a little bit, before dinner, evening routines, etcetera etcetera. After the rather shabby meal, complete with a few stray pieces of Jacklope’s hair which you had to pick out of your food, you made your way to Es’s office, knocking quietly on the opened door to announce your presence.

“Can I help you?”

Ah, yes. Here came the social anxiety. For being fifteen, Es was terryfying. “Um. So.. ahaahah. I think my cell is haunted and since I don’t feel entirelt safe would it be okay if Fuuta stayed in there??” Your words stumbled over each other as you spoke with unreasonable speed, face red with how stupid it really sounded when you said it all. Not to mention Es’s judgemental stare, which was served with a side of cold silence.

“...As long as you don’t do anything… bad… then I see no issue with it.” 

After everyone went about their usual routines and got themselves ready for bed, Es supervising as you and Fuute carried the mattress into your own cell. All the other prisoners said goodnight, not going without a little chirp from Mahiru about how cute she thought it was that Fuuta was staying with you, and Es finally let you be after plenty of promises that you would not be any ‘passionate frolicking’. 

An uneasy silence settled over the two of you for about twenty minutes while you just, kind of.. sat there, Fuuta staring at the door expectantly before turning to you with an annoyed expression. “Thought you said there were noises---”

Perfectly timed, the indistinct noise of what sounded like a faint, pained cry coming from the door, to which Fuuta jumped noticeably, muttering something of a ‘what the fuck’ under his breath. He glanced back up at you, now much more trusting as he gave you an almost concerned expression. “You hear that shit every night?”

You nodded. “For at least a week.”

With a pause, Fuuta slowly crawled up onto your bed and inched closer to you, refusing to speak as he directed his gaze back at the door. After about one whole minute of slight peace, there was another noise, and you could feel Fuuta tense up next to you, before he ultimately reached an arm over and draped it over your shoulder. 

"I.. I'll keep you safe, okay?"

CKB hear me out. Haters will say it's fake but ....... blanche youngest child. The Victorian maid garb? He's tired of being in the shadows of those before him and is trying to set his own identity. Extreme violence? A big ol temper tantrum and cry for attention. I dare say i would lean on him being youngest child just because Lev fits the disaster middle child ALL too well 😮‍💨.

I see why some will say Lev as the youngest but i feel like he's suuuuch a middle kid like, even if he's stupid, he'd having a good time and that's all he cares about. I feel like youngests are actually more deceitful and tricky wheras middle kids are pretty true to themselves and more easygoing? Like them youngest kids are used to sneaking around and just so cunning, showing different faces (not unlike blanche who does a 180)

Like blanche, yves can also fit all 3 perfectly. He does kinda seem like the overstressed, overworked, will nag out of love, can never relax, will shoulder responsibility for you eldest child (i feel like eldest children also have a really clean aesthetic? Middle kids are either cozy wear or pop the Fuck off. And youngest kids are always flashy but in their own way and my god if that isnt blanche 💀)

Also i feel like eldest kids (yves) have a great fear or failure and losing things so theyre lowkey control freaks. Youngest kids (blanche) are oddly possessive and entitled like they think the last slice of pizza is their god given right. And middle kids (lev) are so used to losing things that they get obsessive over the things they do have, and a bit pathetic abt it if they feel it slipping away.

Youngest kid blanch really does seem like a big brat (but who cares) to me. Like he sees reader as his dead pet hamster that he accidentally squeezed to death trying to hug it but he refuses to believe it's dead so he keeps leaving food out for it and stroking it. Middle kid Lev sees you as a cute hamster and buys you cool wheels and a rolling ball and toys and sleeps with you in his bed. Eldest Yves will not allow anything to happen to pet hamster so he has a seperate temperature controlled room for it, homemade pellets, probably wipes hammies ass after it poops and everything.

This was just my random musing though and im excited to see what you end up making the order!!

Top 10 Sofia the First Songs

Fuck it, I know most of you dont give a shit about Sofia the First but this show has been a sheer delight for me so y'all gonna sit down, shut up and appreciate some good music. The music in this show is much like the music in Friendship is Magic. They both went way too hard than they needed to.

Here's the top 10 best songs in Sofia the First

10. King Cedric the Great

Villain songs are always fun and its even better when the villain singing it is about as dangerous as a rubber duck. Cedric is the true example of how to write a sympathetic villain. He's a hapless sorceror who's actually really good at magic but his anxiety combined with everyone (except Sofia and his niece Calista) viewing him as some kind of loser are the reason why he wants to take over the kingdom cos he thinks that's the only way he can get respect. As this song illustrates how he wants Sofia's amulet so he can use its powers, but as the episode goes on, he finds out he doesnt really have it in him to be truly evil for reasons I won't go into, cos the episode this song's from is SO good. Its called Cedric's Apprentice if anyone wants to look it up.

As for the song itself, its a homage to classic Disney villain songs but Cedric's plan is so childishly over the top its hard to take him seriously, which is the song's intention. Its a great juxtaposition. Jess Harnell's singing is just the ham on top of these cheese sandwich.

He really has a knack for playing characters that are totally wacko

9. Wendell's Way

Speaking of sorcerors, here's another villain: a kid named Wendell. A spoilt brat who stole all the flying horses of Enchancia for his birthday. He's like if Horrid Henry went to that terf wizard school. The song itself has a very boisterious energy, amplified by the hard rock drums and the lute/guitar solo?? which makes it all the more satisfying when Sofia, Amber and James get the upper hand in the end and Wendell's mother comes out of nowhere to ground him, its fucking great. Its nice to see a bully character actually stay a bully and not get force-redeemed by the writers so they can pull the 'everyone deserves a second chance' message , when in actuality, no, some people really are that mean and you're not obligated to give a shit about a bully. Wendell is, in retrospect, a breath of fresh air as the song doesnt pull some sad backstory out of the aether to make you feel sorry for this kid. No, he's just that selfish.

Also the lyric: 'That is a promise, but also a threat' is fucking great.

Its a simple song but a bop nonetheless.

8. Make Some Noise

Sometimes a song is good when its just plain fun. And this song definitely applies. In the episode this is from, Sofia befriends a bunch of trolls living under the castle that everyone warns her are dangerous and violent and here... theyre actually super chill. The fact that Sofia instantly gets into the groove is delightful and again showcases how compassionate she is.

The song itself has a fun, jazzy melody with the trolls using thier equivalents of piano, trumpets and of course their clubs. It's such a feel good song, almost like the voice actors just got up from the chairs and just danced like they dont give a shit and the directors just hit record. It really feels like a song you would hear at a party. Even the repeated animation doesnt bother me.

7. A Princess True

One of this show's biggest weakness is portraying people from different cultures cos its clear the show is made by mostly white people who have a limited understanding of non-white cultures and can easily fall into racist stereotypes without realising it. Its not by any means racist as the show features plenty of non white side characters (Khaled, Kashmir, Jun, Jin and Kari) that the main cast are on friendly terms with. But here, this song is relatively tame as this song is all about Sofia, a white girl, believing in Lani, a Hawaiian girl, as her actions throughout the episode are proof she's the real deal.

In the episode, Princess Leilani lost her family heirloom the Emerald Key into the sea after fighting an evil witch, where it gets washed up in Enchancia so Leilani goes to the castle to get the key back, cos its a key to help her parents find their way home from the sea. However, the witch Mamanu disguises herself as Leilani as well so she can trick the Enchancian royal family into giving her the Key. So Roland puts both Lanis to the test but the test involves the Lanis to act like THEIR cultural view of royalty. Sofia notices one of the Lanis aces it and the other competely fails at it and does something different instead. So Sofia thinks the latter is the real princess and this song is her showing her full support and belief that Lani is the true princess.

Its a very sweet song to a very meaty episode which is why I had to explain in full detail. Its not perfect but the song really encapsulates Sofia's and the show's earnestness towards non-white characters and I appreciate that. It helps the creator is Jewish and went on to make a show all about Latina culture and did actual research on it. So this song, and the episode itself is a good, albeit rocky start.

Even if they fucked it up with giving Lani powers in the next episode she appeared in, goddammnit why the magical native stereotype we were so close!!!!!

6. Me and My Mom

Creator Craig Gerber has stated many times that one of Sofia the First's core themes is teaching kids about blended families and how to adapt after getting new parents and step siblings in your life (since he was a child of divorce himself and had to adapt to having a new father and siblings). This song is about Sofia's struggles to adapt now that she has to share her mother with Amber and James. You really feel sorry for Sofia cos she's so used to having her mother being the only family she has and of course, is easily attached to her.

Its a very soft, heartfelt song that resonates with a lot of kids that are in Sofia's position. I bet they felt very seen by this episode.

5. Improvise

In the episode, Amber wants to join in Sofia's girl scout group but in typical Amber fashion, she brought nothing but dresses and jewellry to an outdoor trip and forgot to pack a tent. So Sofia and her friends teach her how to improvise via musical number. A cute lesson about being resourceful and a great example of Amber becoming a more versatile character as she grows to love the outdoors.

There's a very jovial, motivational energy to the song that really makes it stand out from the usual pep-talk songs in this show. What else can I say? Its a highlight of Amber's character development and a fun little song to boot. Whats not to love?

4. Two By Two

Amber's relationship with her sister Sofia is always expanded upon in the show but her relationship with brother James is a lot less so since Amber and James sparsely interact beyond typical sibling teasing. So its nice this episode, and this song helps establish how much Amber actually cares about her twin brother.

In the episode, Amber accidentally turns James into a toddler thanks to a botched magic spell cos Amber didnt want to share her birthday but as her and Sofia run around trying to find baby James. Sofia suggests to Amber to sing the twin song that James and Amber used to sing all the time when they were little. (which is just adorable)

I love how Amber starts the song in a very deadpan, almost annoyed tone until the second verse hits and slowly her singing becomes more melancholy and emotional, like the fact that her twin being lost is just now hitting her. Especially since she spent the whole episode wishing to have a birthday to herself for once, not realising that she's taking away James' birthday and thus losing him too. That small bit of her looking at the pocket watch with her and James' portrait it, finally finding baby James behind the throne, picking him up and hugging him and them finishing the song together

STOP, MY FUCKING HEART CANT TAKE THE AMOUNT OF CUTE

Its so nice to see a sibling relationship that's actually wholesome.

3. Dare to Risk It All

One of Amber's biggest flaws is her envy and her getting over being an jealous bitch to her little sister is a lesson that Amber has always had to learn in the show's earlier seasons. And while she has made some development, this is the episode where Amber makes the most change. And this song is emblematic of that.

Dare To Risk It All has Rapunzel appear to teach Amber that you have to put other's needs before your own to earn forgiveness, to prove you can change, which is a lesson not a lot of kids shows teach nowadays cos most shows like Steven Universe and even MLP put the pressure on the victim to forgive their bullies or let them off easy (especially if they're family) but in this episode, Sofia is rightfully angry at Amber for stealing her amulet and isnt afraid to snap at her for it the whole episode so Amber throughout this song (and the episode) realising how much Sofia means to her and it puts the pressure on Amber to be a better person and a better sister.

Its one of the few good Disney Princess songs the show has. The Disney Princess aspect of the show is honestly its biggest crutch cos Sofia always has a good role model with her mother and her dad to some extent and the princesses havent exactly had the best trakc record for teaching good lessons to Sofia since they either state the obvious or gaslight her. So its nice to see the princesses teach someone else for a change. And its Rapunzel, the best Disney princess.

Also bonus points for having a good song about earning forgiveness whilst flying dragons.

2. Princess Things

Sofia wants to do flying horse-racing even though mostly boys at her school do that sport and both Amber and Sofia's rival Prince Hugo are discouraging her from trying out the sport. Its your typical girl empowerment message. While the pilot episode established the whole premise, this episode (Just One of the Princes) and this song establishes Sofia's character: a pro-active princess who doesnt fall for anyone's bullshit, which is perfect for a moral center protagonist.

I love how Sofia's expression throughout the song goes from confused to smiling like she's internally screaming. And her verses are basically 'screw you guys i do whatever the fuck i want.' So not only did everyone waste their time singing to convince Sofia but in fact made her even MORE CONVINCED to try out the flying horse derby. Good job, guys.

Aside from that, the song itself is a bop. The repeated chorus really emphasises the peer pressure Sofia is going through. Second episode of the series and they're already making a hit.

1. All You Need

In the episode, Sofia meets Vivian, a princess who's a great artist and musician but is painfully shy and thus everyone is spreading rumours around her. Even Sofia was a bit apprehensive but she pushes through it to meet Vivian at her house whilst they work on their school project and this delightful song just pops up.

I love how it starts with Vivian nervously playing her lute and Sofia starts singing, whilst helping her IN SONG start brainstorming their ideas for a dream castle. Then after Sofia's verse is done: ending with the lyric, Ill paint all the towers blue, now the rest is up to you, Vivian immediately jumps and enthusiastically suggest her own ideas. The music even matches the tone of the characters. When it starts, its only Vivian's lute and a backing track but as soon as the bridge comes, the music swells when Sofia's singing motivates Vivian and its just chef kiss.

This song, as well as the episode this was from, made me really like Vivian as a side character and I always loved her interactions with Sofia whenever she made an appearance. I like how she retained her newfound confidence into later seasons, where she becomes just as pro-active as Sofia.

This song, to me, is what Sofia the First is all about. A girl who's just the sunniest child, befriending the shy kid in her class and having the most adorable musical number. Are there songs with better lyrics and theming? Absolutely. But the sheer serotonin levels this song has, as well as encapsulating the main character's compassion for others, is why this is the best song of the show

- She and Sunny can only sometimes have feelings for each other, but most of the Times theyre best friends since mila is with Agathe (probably) And Sunny is with Cheddar man a.k.a Charles

- she sometimes sees her students as her kids just like how Salieri And Sunny see their students as their own children they raised. Even though Mila's students are sometimes not-so-great dancers

- she is canonly a Spanish Lady in the reboot (maybe she was in the Show too)

- Mila often sees Sunny's students as her nephews And nieces just like how Oliver Starz does

- in her breaktime, she hangs out with Sunny and Agathe, And she knows that Agathe gets sometimes jealous of Sunny, but she is still friends with him too

Number two, Big D

57 years old (in human years) 1248 (in demon years)|pansexual|personalities: sassy, Sly, evil, manipulative, demonic, arrogant And rude

- just like on the original Show, he truly is the devil, but only for the music industry

- he is the only character in the reboot to have colored eyes, his eyes are clearly either bloody red or crimson red or maroon

- many call him "Dwight", but they even call him "Devil" And "Big devil"

- he is the most tallest on the reboot, he is about 196 cm tall (very tall, eh?)

- Big D sometimes helps Salieri And his students with some of his mischiefs And plans if they need help

- Mr Yin And Mr Min work for him just like on the Show, but he can sometimes get annoyed by their sometime stupidity

- he may be some kind of Lil' D's uncle due to the fact they have D's at the end of their names, but this is only a theory

- he calls literally everyone "my devils" or "my little Devils"

Number three, cheddar man a.k.a Charles

28-29 years old|pansexual|personalities: smooth, sassy, arrogant, sarcastic, rude, sometimes flirty (when with Sunny) And ignorant

- in the reboot, cheddar man a.k.a Charles is Sunny's boyfriend, but he is even mostly an an antagonist like on the Show, but he actually likes sunny

- he doesnt really like Sunny's students, its not that he hates them its just that they can sometimes annoy him And get on his nerves. And he even calls them "brats". But he is sometimes Nice to them

- just like on the Show, he loves the color blue And any shade of blue

- he HATES Salieri, like A LOT. Its not only because he is way more pure evil, but because he left Sunny for no real reason after they were dating

- he often gets slapped or punched by tamika when he calls them brats or is rude to them

THEY DRIVE ME NUTS!! like. for example ive been thinking of bella again more recently n feel incredibly sick ovr it all, ik I briefly mentioned sm stuff abt her before BUT? shes actually this eldest sister of all time guys n let me explain:

where to even begin. she was the first of her parent's eventual "failures", while being graced w gen love n kindness at first from them they quickly grew "tired" of her n she could never understand why. one day they were indulging her whims, pinching her cheeks n letting her come everywhere w them, n the next she was tugging at her mother's skirt hem n her fathers hand asking to be picked up n they only tiredly looked at her this time n told her to "stop being fussy" n that was that. when she heard they were having another kid it felt like she was being "replaced" n her chest hurt so bad and her eyes welled up n she ended up running to her room n slamming the door n crying into her pillow bc she just wanted her parents back n knew that now she'd really never get to have them again. when her baby brother was finally born tho, her mother made her hold him n at first bella only frowned sullenly down at him bc really- this is what they were replacing her with? but something inexplicable softened inside of her against her will when he softly smacked his little fist against her chest n ended up snuggling closer to her, n she ended up walking around the house simply carrying him for a while until he fell asleep so her mom could rest. when they eventually realized there was something wrong w myer- that being his near inability to see pretty much anything- suddenly he wasnt their cute kid anymore he was something that was "too much work" bc of this, n so what do they do? they pawn him off on bella of course, n u can guess how well that goes over. not only have they replaced her but now they've turned her into myers sole caretaker pretty much bc theyre gone so much of the time (AT AGE 8 MIND YOU.) once, bella shut the door in myers face n told him to go away, only to open it hours later n see him sitting right outside fiddling w the carpet in the dark. she felt so guilty tht she started crying n hugged him close n said she was sorry over n over. like she really felt like he “took” her parents love at first, but now? it feels like he's simply in the same boat as her n she has no choice but to step up for him bc if not her then who else. tht doesnt mean she still didnt struggle w him, far from it in fact, but while she has these mixed emotions, she also knows that despite myer not being able to see her much, whenever he hears her voice its enough to bring him running from the opposite end of the house to her n that means something to her. AND I HAVENT EVEN GOTTEN TO KEITH N LORELEI YET THE FUCK OF IT ALLLLL. when bella once AGAIN hears tht her mom is having another kid, TWINS this time she nearly loses it because she simply doesnt understand why both her n myer arent good enough n why theyve been discarded. when keith n lorelei arrive ofc its only a matter of time bf theyre all but pushed onto bella to take care of, n shes so so tired at this point but she simply steels herself n accepts bc she wont allow them to be abandoned. keith is a sullen little brat who's too angry so much of the time but she understands bc shes like that too deep down still. lorelei nearly never sleeps n her n keith cause so much trouble tgt but shes also the one to hug bellas leg n tell her she loves her no matter if they just fought or not. n bella may feel bitter but she'll still read them the books she found at the dump at night n listen to them all n let them pull on her apron n whine when shes trying to make things n like. they annoy her so much she wishes her parents never had them she doesnt know how to live without them now she'd do anything to protect her broken little family she wouldnt know what to do if she lost any of them, n all of these feelings just explode when the draft comes n her parents abandon them all n now its officially her turn to be the head of their fam. do not even get me started on bella being the one to go to the war in place of myer either bc I will not stop SOMEBODY SEDATE MEEEEE

one of my absolute favorite things about alchemy stars is that no one respects navi in any way, and that theyre a very fun twist on typical gacha protags

generally for gacha protagonists you have 3 flavors: Just Some Guy who everyone has a crush on, you're like the only coke left on the world so everyone needs you or something, or youre supposedly the Goku of tactics and everyone is impressed by you.

navi is. a fucking whiny brat who no one takes seriously and only has a place in the world because they were literally dragged out of a hole in the ground. the reason the characters grow to care about navi is because navi is just so endearing as a person and especially as someone who is truly experiencing the world for the first time after 17 years of only knowing darkness. they constantly pester people to take care of themselves or to stop destroying their house. they in turn also get pestered by people trying to make them take better care of themselves. navi gets bedtime stories read to them by children half their age but one of their biggest rivals is also a pack of children who makes fun of them. there are a handful of characters who have a crush on you but part of it is born out of the adventure and some of them just Really want to watch navi squirm and also dissect them. multiple characters either teacher or parentzone navi immediately because theyre like "ok, this kid is fucking hilarious" and want to watch them survive. navi is into the military aesthetic of illumina because it gave them legitimate rolemodels in barton and gram but they also told reinhardt herself (their boss) to get over herself when it came to petty politics. navi has taken the daughter of the literal ruler of the city in the goddamn sky to hang out with their two biggest enemy factions, both of which flirted with her, just because they were nice to them. navi has a genuine mean and petty streak of reciepts and isnt afraid to whip them out against characters trying to squeeze favors from them for whatever reason. navi is a goddamn abuela of a character who has to be telling people to be responsible with their explosives and is always one step away from beating someone con la chancla. literally every character has access to navis dms and usually take the time to annoy them.

[Aha. Honestly? Pretty rough. Could have been worse, I guess, but my family pulling some bullshit this year really just...ruined the season for me. If you don't want a long vent that I feel I need to get off my chest, stop reading here and know that my answer is basically could have been worse but not great. But I guess I'd you're curious about me really seeing very clearly where I stand in my family, feel free to read on.

So basically I'll start with this has honestly probably been a long time coming. The differences between me and most of my family, especially the particular clan in question (which, for reference, is basically my oldest brother, his kids, along with my older brother's girlfriend and his oldest son's girlfriend at least; a few other S/Os are newer to the mix, but im sure theyre getting the same bs fed to them as everyone else considering how they operate) have just become more and more glaring over the years. Whether that's politics and general human decency to basic shit like interests and just personalities not meshing. Shit you can generally most past but after a while and a few incidences in recent years (especially this year) I've just....decided I don't care to care any more. If their opinion of me is so low, I don't care to try and change it or entertain being around people who don't care for me.

I'll keep things reserved to this year because they're the most relevant. Back in July, we all went on vacation as a family. We've done it plenty of times before, and besides minor hiccups and one major moment of gross racism and just general bullshit that is probably what really opened my eyes to how this particular sect believes and operates (i.e. i called my older nephew, ill call him T for the sake of clarity, out for some racist comment but somehow i was the one that ended up the bad guy and bullied/laughed out of the cabin; i got onto my niece, I'll call her D, for acting like a horrible and entitled brat to literally everyone because her dad wasnt doing it and, again, i was the bad guy. Keep this pattern in mind), nothing unexpected took place on these trips. We moved on from the situations for the sake of family.

This year, however was just....too much. I'll start with the initial shit I knew on the ground and move into what I found out after concerning this situation. For this vacation, we were all renting a cabin at a lake for the week, something we've done plenty of times before and had a good time. Unfortunately, T's gf, A, had just gotten a new job, so they couldn't make it up to join us until Wednesday evening (we checked in Sunday night). Which was fine. We were happy they could come at all.

A few days before we went, me, my parents, and my brother (W) and his gf (C) were discussing vacation and got on the topic of deciding which rooms we wanted to some degree. It was decided that, since my parents, W and C like to get up early for breakfast, they would take the two rooms on the main floor. I asked if I could have one of the two rooms on the top floor because there would be a lot of kids around, I'm not the biggest fan of kids, and I just need my space in general from EVERYONE from time to time and didn't want to be in the basement where the kids were likely going to be most of the time (there was a TV, a pool table, and other like kid friendly features down there for them to occupy themselves). Everyone agreed that that would be fine so I was content.

Well, as shit usually goes with this family, that's not what ended up happening. W and C got there first and they decided to take one of the upstairs bedrooms. D and her boyfriend got there next and took the other upstairs room. So I was pissed about it because I had specifically asked for one of those rooms with W and C there and knowing what was going on. So when I confronted W about it when we arrived at the cabin, he threw D, his own DAUGHTER, under the bus for taking the other room when, in reality, him and C were the obvious problem here. I wasn't mad at D in the slightest and it made sense that they took the upstairs room they did because it had a pull out couch for her bf's kids. I didn't care about that. I was pissed at W and C who KNEW I called an upstairs room but decided to take it anyway. And I know this doesn't sound like a big deal, but, for context, this is what always happens to me, I'm guess because I'm single with no kids and am generally just quiet and keep to myself, even when I am upset about shit: what I want or even need is completely shoved aside to appease everyone else, and usually because it doesn't quite fit in with what someone else in the family wants to do. As I said, I usually keep quiet, but I did make it known that I was pissed off and just went to wait on the balcony for everyone to pick their rooms, saying I would just do like I usually did and take what was left over. Of course, I ended up in the basement and was constantly bothered by the kids when I was trying to have any time to myself. But I got over it and moved on.

On top of all this, that portion of the family was just....really hostile to me, my other two brothers, and my parents. For literally no reason. Some specific examples: W and C just basically avoided me the rest of the time, and they made it really awkward and apparent they didn't want to be around me or talk to me, even when I made the effort at civility. C acted like a child most of the time, including walking away from a conversation when my mom mentioned something miniscule about gun control (because that was what got brought up, and not by us btw) to refusing to help us clean up the day we left and basically just not talking to anyone on Friday when we all took the boat out on the lake. T and A got there Wednesday night and brought stuff for smores. That was the night I was sickest with covid and the next day didn't have the energy to go to an amusement park with the rest of them, so me, my parents and brother stayed behind. When they got home, T and W first bitched at my mom for the beer being gone (literally only my dad out of all of us was drinking that week, and he wasn't drinking throughout the day like they seemed to want to accuse him and the rest of us of) and then he and A bitched her more because the chocolate for smores was gone and they supposedly brought that "only for the kids." For reference, I saw only a bar and a half left from the night before that, no one told anyone it was just for the kids, and we were all under the impression that, like the rest of the food, we were all sharing all of it. And, compared to the few packages of full size bars they brought, we in no way pigged out while they were gone like they seemed to think and this really upset my mom for good reason as we literally did nothing wrong. These two were also just generally snotty the whole time over stupid little things like the fact that we didn't want to go to the amusement park for our various reasons, most of which was we were sick or just getting over the worst part of being sick, but I guess that didn't matter.

So finally it was all over and I couldn't be happier to fo tf home. However, I found out after the fact that D had cried the night we got there because she thought I was mad at her for taking one of the upstairs rooms. Of course, no one talked to me about it as it always goes and I felt horrible because I was in no way pissed at her (I texted her and let her know that, too, and explained what actually happened). But what was really telling and just really gross about that whole thing was that W and C were completely okay with not only throwing me under the bus to save their own asses but to also throw D, his DAUGHTER'S, ass under the bus and risk ruining my relationship with her just so they could appear faultless and get their way in this situation. They were okay make ME look like the bitch and asshole when I really wasn't at fault at all in that situation. But of course, that part of the family only got W and C's side of the story. Which is important for this more recent bit that really just cemented my discontent.

Fast forward to December. Every year, we do a little secret Santa gift exchange on Christmas eve in the evening. We discussed it on Thanksgiving with everyone and that's what we all agreed was what we would do this year. We even use a gift exchange app that I put all the info into that they could look at to see the when and what time at any point. Come about two weeks beforehand and T texts our group chat asking what day we were doing it, and that he and A planned to go to her family's party in the afternoon/evening on Christmas eve. I'm sitting with my parents at the time and we're all just kind of like seriously? We had this all planned. So I texted back saying we planned on doing it in the evening on Christmas eve like we always have. His response was a half asses excuse that they thought the fate set on the app was just a placeholder, and that he guessed they would make it by if they made it by. He also tried to guilt us by playing the "we have multiple places to go" card. I could tell my mom was upset about it even if she acted like it was fine. This is what literally all of them do when my parents try to plan a family thing: they treat it as what feels like an afterthought and/or the last stop behind everyone else every time. I know it hurts my mom, I've watched it my whole life since I was little and I had just had enough.

So, me being me, I confronted T about it. I basically said you know this is kind of bs because we've had this planned for a month now but you guys couldn't have worked around what was already planned and instead expect my parents to work around you all like we always have to do. I told him that it was really unfair to my parents and that he was hurting them, not me (as he seemed to think I was mad for ME) by not coming. Well he didn't like that and went off again about needing to go to multiple places--which I do get btw. He then had the audacity to bring up the vacation fiasco, throwing the room thing in my face and calling me selfish and a problem for making a big deal "out of nothing." Remember, he was not there when any of this took place nor did he ever ask me or anyone else about what happened, save for probably W and C. I basically ended the conversation there, telling him to stfu about shit he doesn't know the full story about and I just reiterated again that, by not coming, it's his grandparents he's hurting (who he claimed, BTW, were the only people he would come for at all), not me, and was done with it. To top it off, my dad talked to him the next day about it because they didn't want any hard feelings and to set T straight about what actually happened on vacation. T said he knew he shouldn't have brought that up and said he would text me to apologize. Guess what he didn't do? Unsurprising to me at least.

So I just basically said I wasn't doing the family Christmas shit this year. I literally sat in my room with the dogs and played pokemon. Was that petty? Maybe. But I didn't really want to he around any of them after all the shit they've pulled not only this year but throughout my life. Nobody asked about me while they were there. Nobody came to talk to me or wish me merry Christmas. Nobody cared that I wasn't there for the holiday (save for my parents). My younger nephew was literally the only person to ask me why I wasn't there and show any sign that he noticed when I came down after everyone left. It was just the nail in the coffin of confirming that I'm not wanted or liked when it comes to that sect of the family. They could literally care less if I'm around and it really showed this holiday season. It has made me even more eager to fucking move away from here and maybe never come back.

So, in short, as is probably typical, my family ruined my Christmas for me. I didn't get to enjoy my family like I would hope to because they suck. But maybe it's for the best. Its given me new strength to just do what's best for me and what I'm comfortable with rather than stomaching people's presence that I don't really want to stomach. And I know this is definitely like. First world problems when it comes to family because I know people that have SO MUCH WORSE grievances with family than me but...yeah. it comes down to I'm really just sick of certain members of my family treating not only me but especially my parents like absolute dog shit for NO reason. And no one ever says anything because ether don't want to cause problems. But I guess if no one else will, ill put on the bitch crown they've put on me anyway and stand up for myself and them. I'm just beyond done]

There's these games that I haven't gone looking for because I'm lazy but basically they were these point and click adventure games for little kids and theybwere absolute shit and I remember playing them when I was younger i forgot what theyre called tho

Basically there was this girl she was like 4 and an absolute fucking bitchy brat and each game she did something new so in one game she was learning how to swim in the next she hsd a newborn sibling (who she hated) etc etc

You had to click on stuff she points at to progress the story and if you dont click on it she'll get mad and thrn start throwing a tantrum until you do to show youre taking too long

I have a disntict memory of one game where she had fhe lead role as this peacock in some kind of play and I think at the start she was like making crafts- I remmeber there was a sectio where she was out shopping for accesories with her mom for the costume and she found these really nice earrings that go perfectly witht he rest of the outfit (why this 4 year old has piercings is beyond me) and I tried to click on them but nothing happened so I kept clicking on it and she started to throw a stantrum and i got stressed and I dont remember what happened next I think i gave it to my mom after like 20 minutes and she got it to work

Brat tamer Din is so much like brat tamer Joel, only with Din whatever your ages don't come into play when people look at his experience over you, its beacuse hes a Mandalorian and a bounty hunter and youre nowhere near either of those and no one in your circle would think of that.

Which makes me think about how Joel deals with it, which you know other people would think its about age. Beacuse I think some men who were adults when this started, are more scrutinizing of those who were either atill a kid when it started or werent born yet. You're younger than him, how much so doesn't really matter to either of you beacuse you clearly have experience and maturity that matches the kinds of experiences hes had. Its also not really anything you two discuss, beacuse again, for you two, your ages are not part of what made you connect.

But, that doesn't mean some of the guys around Jackson haven't gotten a bit too comfortable, and start teasing Joel about being mid life crisis age and bagging a younger woman. How hes gotta try and keep up with your quick wit and young stamina. And boy does it make him twitch. Clenched jaw trying not to tell them you are still an adult and hes clearly not your goddamn babysitter, that you keep up with eachother just fine. Irritated that just beacuse you're not around Joels age that they think youre a young little girl instead of a grown ass woman who has been through as much as any of them. But theyre also wrong about another thing.

You're the one who has to keep up with him. Beacuse when he gets home Joel is so goddamn frustrated that as soon as he sees you, hes absolutely projecting it onto you. Fucks you like youre the one who said all that, hisses in your ear when you whine after one too many smacks on your ass that if youre such a big girl then prove it. Youre not a child and Joel doesnt see you that way, but he absolutely will tame you like youre the brat and hes the one who can disipline that.

The next time comments like that are made, they joke asking if you were still in the crib when this all started (which you werent like youre clearly not some little naive 20 year old), and you just cut back by asking which retirement home were they in when it all started. That makes the comments towards you stop, and instead it turns to making senior jokes about Joel which you join into smirking all the while, beacuse you both know that if he gets into a brat taming mood when people act like youre still a child (cus it makes him push you to your limits to prove that youre absolutely old enough to keep up with his rough stamina), he will absolutely consider you teasing him by calling him old, as brat behavior.
