i went to a DND session at my friend's house today it was so fun!!

i am definitely the only person who cares about this but I was re-reading parts of Sea of Monsters (irrelevent as to why) and. in the chariot race. well, a.) The Ares cabin has skeleton horses. where did they get skeleton horses? and then, actually more confusingly, b.) almost all the other chariots besides Hephaestus cabin (they have automatons) have normal horses. not pegasi. Percy actually specifically identifies the Apollo chariot’s horses by breed which is very funny to me because Of Course He Would but like. We never see CHB have normal horses at any other point in time? Where did they get the horses?

I will never be over the fact that Lily Potter was the one who defeated Voldemort in 1981 and she was never given proper credit for it in canon. We barely even know anything about her and she was the one who defeated the snake faced bitch the first time around. It drives me insane. Every description about Nico (especially the canon ones) describing him as “cold” can personally fight me. Nico is jaded, yes, and often closed-off and sometimes stand-offish and defensive but he is not "cold”. He cares SO SO SO MUCH about EVERYONE. He loves and cares with his entire heart constantly and that is a core part of his character. He doesn’t often make public shows of his affection but he takes care to be kind when it matters and doesn’t hide that he does care (usually, the only exception really being him being in the closet, but even then he only hid his crush specifically and not the fact that Percy is important to him). He fine with hugging his friends in front of a crowd and will sit with strangers at a campfire just so they’re not alone. I mean, heck, he’s an extrovert! We know this! He actively seeks out people and gets lonely very quickly and easily! If he can’t talk to living people he will chat with the dead! That’s how much he thrives on being social!

The only time Nico has ever been actively “cold” was the couple of months between TTC and BoTL when he was actively mourning Bianca. Nico is not “cold.” He loves so much and he does show it, just in his own way.

#james talks #james watches stuff #a murder at the end of the world #if you're new here or have never consumed any media: synthesizing a literal audience is one of the most annoying things anything can do #it is at best distracting and at worst condescending and grating bc it assumes and assigns audience reactions and interpretations #and it also REEKS of a lack of faith in the material itself to be able to speak for itself #most of the time it's done for no real purpose and the few times it has a narrative purpose it's done awfully #even a movie i ADORE like SCREAM (1996) was not immune to this. #the one single flaw in that movie to me is Kenny repeating the 'behind you' joke. not only is it not funny the second time but it's— #synthesizing the audience by making the characters an audience to the same movie as us and telling us how we should be reacting. #another movie that tries to do this and fails miserably is like Halloween: Resurrection which tries to make some commentary— #on media as exploitative entertainment and the audience as willing participants and equally culpable in the continuation of trauma but the— #execution of it is absolutely horrible and that's even beyond how bad the rest of the movie is. #every time the characters are watching the same media or there's an actual audience in the media it's literally never gone well— #at least as far as i have experienced. but this is the first time a literal audience in anything has actually worked bc it's like— #right in the opening and it's the audience actually getting invested in the story so THAT audience responding the same way actually WORKS #actually borderline genius tbh
