by the way, for all the people that misunderstand why they play a version of Marilyn Monroe's "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" here, it's not just because this is how Harley is processing the information Roman is telling her, it's because the diamond literally saved her life right here. that's why diamonds are a girl's best friend, like because they just saved her life. if Cassandra hadn't stolen the diamond, she would have died right here.

sorry, took a coffee break and got distracted by Rebecca Klingel's wikipedia page bc i was thinking about the podcast story of Borrasca and the short story it was inspired by bc i just started listening to it (still only 1 episode in, no spoilers please) and then i looked her up and then it turns out she was hired by @flanaganfilm to work on the shows with him (she wrote episode 8 of Hill House, episode 6 of Bly, and she was the story editor for all of Usher) and the rest of that creative team and i've already unknowingly consumed her work without associating her with it. anyway, when i rewatch those shows i guess i'll be on the lookout for those!
also, Borrasca is very good so far, highly recommend giving it a listen if you like audio stories that way. i'm personally someone that struggles with entirely audio mediums because if my eyes aren't engaged, i tend to tune stuff out but Borrasca is good enough that i can just focus on it. anyway lol, back to Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.

Harley voted for Bernie, so true. also, every single thing that happens in this movie is somehow peak cinema, i don't know how they made it but they kind of made a perfect fucking movie. also, the Fantastic Four reference is very funny.

and there's "Sway With Me" by Saweetie and GALXARA. anyway, hope being robbed by Cassandra crushes Victor's spirit.

Victor struggling to gain control again, because he needs to feel wanted by Roman, like genuinely, this movie rules so much

the way Victor is trying to assert control over Roman again because he notices his attention is being diverted, while simultaneously trying to satisfy his own kink for seeing other people in pain or making other people suffer, like i'm sorry this movie is so goddamn phenomenal. like the script is genuinely perfect, i'm not even remotely exaggerating or joking. perfect fucking script. certainly so far. i am almost 37 minutes in and it is genuinely a perfect script so far. no notes.

"why don't i own the crossbow guy? ... i mean, i love crossbows!" Ewan McGregor, i love you so much. also, the assumption he is automatically making that it's a guy while simultaneously doubling down on his characterization, like sorry, but the script is fucking phenomenal.

okay, tumblr. let's try this again.
> safewords are 100% necessary in any BDSM activity.
> "no", "stop", and other plain language *are technically* safewords.
> everyone involved in a BDSM activity can use a safeword, not just the s-type or bottom.
> safewords must be negotiated in advance before play in order to ensure everyone is on the same page with what is and is not a safeword for that BDSM activity.
> even the most extreme of 24/7 TPE M/s free use CNC dynamics still have and use safewords.
> if someone tells you they "don't believe in safewords", or "safewords are for beginners only" (or the inverse, which i've personally experienced in conversation, "safewords are for advanced play only"), or "you can negotiate ignoring a safeword", run away.

genuinely obsessed with this movie. Jurnee gives such a phenomenal fucking performance in this scene, but also it's just written so goddamn well and perfectly sets her up for her character arc and establishes the kind of dynamic she and Renee are gonna have. "where the fuck were you and your boys in blue then?" countered with Renee's "that would never happen on my watch" and Dinah's facade cracking just a little bit, like i'm sorry but it's fucking phenomenal.
first tiny bit of criticism though, like the take they used for Dinah's shot as the response to Renee's dialogue is one where Renee messed up her line because she said "happin" with an i or a weird accent or something instead of "happen", but they forgot to ADR it or something or they couldn't find the right audio, maybe for her take. anyway it's a tiny thing, obviously, the pronunciation is just off but it is obviously noticeable.
actually, just went back and listened to it again, it sounds like she said a different line almost? like the actual dialogue was "that would never happen on my watch" but maybe in the take they used she said "that would never have been on my watch" which is why it sounds weird, but the subtitles say "happen", so i'm just a little confused. but anyway, it's like the tiniest nitpick lol.

also, they set up so much about Cassandra in like one tiny little scene like sorry, but who is doing it like this movie? you literally know so much about her in this one scene, like she's a foster child, and her parents hate each other and don't want her home, and she is acting out and learning how to steal so she can go live on her own at some point probably bc of that, and that she finds community with Dinah, and that she lives in the same building as her, like they do so much in this tiny like literally one minute long scene (32:41-33:41), i'm sorry this movie is fucking impeccably written.

the sign in front of Dinah's building where someone has crossed out the J in Janus corporation so it says "Anus Corporation" is funny, but also, notice the letter that's crossed out, this is a movie about getting rid of the Joker! like who is doing thematic cohesion in random background elements like this movie? nobody!

the way they visually tie together Harley and Dinah's fighting styles but the fact this scene takes place chronologically before the police attack scene so it's like Harley learned the move from Dinah and she picked it up while she was drunk out of her mind. like i'm sorry, this movie rules
