#like these things they point out as deceptions are so fucking minuscule it makes me think if you blink wrong that means youre a monster and#a liar#especially in a interrogation scenario is that not automatically going to skew things..#not even accounting for the fact these people already know the outcome of these cases like theyve already been declared guilty in a court..#so theyre going to use that to their own perceptions. it doesnt make any sense to me#if you do xyz youre a evil person if you dont do xyz youre crazy#i cant stand these types of analyses. and theyre lauded as like great psychological entertainment.. youre insane#and they get millions of views it doesnt even matter which random man with no fucking clue what hes talking about puts out these people#eat it up#oh and its 'educational'.. lmao ok...just because the random expert you claim to be talking to doesnt mean that any of this is educational#and then when direct connections to people with mental disabilities or addiction issues or psychiatric problems are brought up people in#comments will be like omg you are so considerate and careful with these issues<3 im so happy you mention not everyone with x and x thing#are evil people<3 when its literally built into the very analyses that theyre doing.#god can you tell i hate these body language interogation analysis videos so much#OR if theyre like this can indicate theyre telling the truth and it usually does BUT in this case...it could obviously be that shes lying

10, 12 and 25 if you want to do the new ask game.
Oh hey there!
Gonna have to put this under read more because it got long :P
10.- Worst part of fanon
Man, this is tough choice, and I feel like depending on how the fandom behaves my feelings on which is the worst one changes periodically, but I have top 3 fanons that I hate, in no specific order:
The dimensional counterparts are as whole the protagonists of Arc V: I feel like I don't need to elaborate much on this, but I will anyway just because: Yuya is the protagonist, Yuzu is a deuteragonist and REIJI not anyone else is the Tritagonist, anyone who thinks any of the counterparts have some sort of claim over these spota just for being a counterparts earns an automatic eye roll from me, do me a favor and stop giving them credit for things that were done by Yuya or Yuzu.
Shun/Ruri/Yuto/anyone from the xyz dimension/resistance were the best or most badass characters!!: People who have followed me for a while know my stance on this, but yeah, no, not only this isn't true, like in the slightest, Yuto's saving grace was being absorbed by Yuya early on and as such deified by fandom, Ruri was ultimately used for Shun's brother manpain, and Shun who was arguibly the most "developed" had such a sloppy, contradictory and derailed development that people need to reshape him into another person to actually fit the image they have of him, no, I'm will neither elaborate or change my opinion, sorry, but also, not sorry.
Yuya is the worst YGO protagonist EVER!!!: No, this one pisses me off so much for how dumb it is, that I won't even try to rip it to shreds, because that would imply it's an actual argument and not just a hater statement. If you "like" Arc V but hate Yuya, then you didn't understand Arc V at all, period.
12.- The unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
REIJI, REIJI, REIJI, REIJI, REIJI, REIJI....
Seriously people it's so weird that people have had something against him since day 1, took at face value the antoganist mask he wore in order to keep his true intentions under wraps and called it a day when it came to his character, he's like the antithesis of Shun in the fandom, because not only will people straight up make up things to make him fit the distorted negative image they have of him, and more than a couple times I've found people actually crediting his acomplishments on Shun of all characters (like calling him yuya's rival, wtf??) which puzzles me so much, I even forget to be angry about it.
Why should more people like him? Um, because his character is the perfect foil/rival for Yuya? The rational to his emotion, the caution to his impulsiveness, the one with his feet on the ground to his dreams and ideals and a long etcetera, but they're also two boys who suffer from abandoment issues and the weight of expectations placed on them who were forced to grow up too soon and become friends through cooperation and mutual trust rather than some dick measuring contest.
Because he's refreshing take on a cliche character in the franchise, and the traits that would make him so get turned into true traits and flaws; he's a teenage genius alright, but he's still 16 so his ideals can still get in his way, he's callous and calculating and it makes Yuya antagonize him and distrust him, he's very guarded but he's also responsible and intensely protective of the people who work with him.
I could go on, but yeah, people should like him more, he deserves it.
25.- Common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing
I was gonna rant about one, but after realizing I have too many and this post is already too long I'm just gonna put this list:
The ending is shitty (this includes 99% of the individual complains of it)
The Synchro arc is filller (this one is just a boring take at this point)
Sawatari should have won a duel (say it with me: winning duels does not equal character development)
Yuzu is useless after season 1 (...🙄)
The egao is like a cult (I seriously hope you never encounter a RL cult recruiter, you wouldn't recognize them tbh...)
x character should have been carded (no they shouldn't, shut up)
Ray is a mary sue/deus ex machina (...go sit in the corner and read what those are okay?)
Reira was fridged (Wtf???)
Reiji should have been evil and working with Leo (refer to my previous answer...)
They ruined [inser legacy character here] (you're legacy character is fine, chill)
Yusho is the worst dad evar!!! (Did you miss the other dad training child soldiers??)
Pendulum summon sucks (Again, did you even like Arc V?)
If you genuinely believe any of these, well, everyone is entitled to their opinions, but not only I don't wanna talk to you, if you shove it in my dash or the main tags constantly, you earn a free ticket to my block list.

I didn't go into my whole opinions of Gege Akutami in the tags from that last post MAINLY because I don't trust a LOT of these weebs, lol. Sorry but a LOT of y'all have really shown me just how piss poor y'all's reading comprehension REALLY is so I don't see a point in going into my opinions if y'all can't even properly digest what y'all read (& that saying something because Geges writing confuses me at times so yeah sometimes I'm just vibing when I'm reading jjk I may not know wtf that cursed technique exactly does but I'm enjoying the ride regardless, lol).
Like more than one person thinks Maki/Mei dynamic is incestuous which just makes me SO unbelievably angry & y'all REALLY need to stop assuming everything that isn't fighting between siblings automatically = something more. Not denying the one specific character, Meimei, isn't written... that way but to claim more are written that way is REALLY weird like... did we read the same manga??? Also not to mention a lot of people who read manga STILL seem to not understand that what is considered sexist/feminist in Japan isn't going to be 100% the same here and I will admit I do fall into doing this sort of thing by going off of western/US ideas of what's feminist/not sexist when analyzing JJK and other manga/anime HOWEVER... I do acknowledge this and also at least try to save room for differing opinions like that and not automatically just label something as progressive. I can't give big/exact examples but I know of times where people will go crazy about something being oh so progressive but people who are Japanese or know the culture well enough will go 'no... no that isn't."
Well, anyway, I was going to share my opinions on Gege Akutami's handling of women characters and if their work is either feminist or sexist but honestly I'm tired so I'll do that another day. The only other thing I want to add/explore a bit is that SOME of the backlash/hate/critiques of JJK just seem... rather familiar to me. Not going into it but yeah... I have a hard time taking SOME of this criticism seriously ESPECIALLY when I see people regularly kiss Odas feet for at best bare minimum stuff (or not even and also weird how multiple people give OP recognition for doing xyz in the tags of that poll and not JJK even though it also actually does do what they give OP credit for...)
Just... y'all have weird priorities and make excuses for ur faves REALLY quick and honestly if y'all can't somewhat equally analyze and critique media fairly I don't think ur opinions should really hold any weight in regards to what is or isn't sexist or any other prejudice really. And look some might say I'm doing the same and on the surface it probably does look like that because I honestly don't care to go into it with others online because of basically what I said in the beginning but also because JJK is something I enjoy more in private, besides reblogging &/or sharing fanart/merch I don't really do much else. I haven't done a thorough in-depth critique (or tried) yet because I don't see a point, not yet at least because while I do have various opinions some need more time to marinate and some just aren't going to be fully developed until the series is over.
BUT if anyone MUST know my basic opinion on JJK and if it's sexist or not my simple answer is... no, I don't believe it is BUT it does still have things it needs to work on though! Are the women well written? Some are, yes! And some aren't! I'm not going into it more than that because again I'm tired and that is being reserved for a more dedicated post that may or may not be made one day, lol.

Fic Writer Review
Tagged by @fontainebleau22, thanks for the tag, sorry for the delay!
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
26 at the moment.
2. What’s your total AO3 wordcount?
722 309. I’d have thought it would be more considering how long some of mine seem to get, although looking at other people’s answers to this meme, I guess 26 isn’t really a huge number!
3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
My first fic ever was a little Lord of the Rings experiment for an exchange thing. But my first proper dip into writing for a fandom would have been Breaking Bad, where I wrote for a couple of years before it felt like my ideas had run their course. Then there was a Kingsman fic, and then Mag7 where - similarly to BrBa - wrote feverishly for a couple years until it felt like the well had been plumbed. Oh yeah and then jumped into the Marvel fandom to drop one Marvel fic before immediately jumping back out lol.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
So the Marvel fic has officially just become my most kudoed fic, which is kind of hilarious considering it was a SUEZ! CANAL! FIC! But in my opinion, a good one lol. So yeah, it would be 1. The SamBucky Suez Canal fic, 2. The Kingsman soccer AU, 3. Desert Sand, 4. Chisolm’s 7, and 5. Blue Devils. That last one surprises me, but I guess it was an early one for the fandom, so I think it became an automatic read.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not
I do! It’s possible I’ve missed some here and there, but generally I try to get them all.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
I don’t think any of them! While my fics definitely include angst, ideally it’s still in a fun way, or at minimum, bittersweet? I don’t generally want the last taste in a reader’s mouth to be angst. ALTHOUGH. I really really wanted to include an epilogue to the selkie fic that’s kind of angsty. Basically the story would end, but then many years later we’d see an old man get off a bus on the coastal road, carrying a suitcase. He’d be wearing a suit, clearly back from many years travelling. He’d walk to the coast, back over a hill where there’d once been a little fishing cottage, long since torn down. He’d walk down to the beach and into a little cove where he’d kneel by the water he knew better than anyone. Opening the suitcase he’d take out a box which he’d then empty into the ocean, ashes spreading across the water. He’d take out a folded bundle of cloth and wrap it around his shoulders. Then he’d dive into the water, disappearing into the waves, leaving nothing but an empty suitcase behind him, and a folded pile of clothes.
I loved that ending but I’m still not 100% sure if it was keeping in tone with the actual ending, so I left it out. Maybe one day I’ll go and add it as en extra chapter snippet.
7. Do you write crossovers? If so what’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I don’t know if I’d call them ‘crossovers’ exactly, although I did stick Goody and Billy into a Some Like it Hot ‘jazz band on a train’ situation, and I also did a Breaking Bad one that used some elements of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Those feel more like ‘AUs’ though. I like situational crossovers, but I’ve never been super into fics where characters from different fandoms actually interact.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Thankfully not. The most off-putting comment I’ve gotten was someone who - despite being very complimentary - decided to make a full-on laundry list all the anachronisms in a chapter lmao, like what. Stuff like "interesting that this character used this expression when XYZ would only been invented 10 years later!” etc. I’m positive they didn’t realize how it came off, but still, that was kind of hilarious in its.....obliviousness lol. It was special.
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
I do. And I guess I’ve done the full spectrum of ‘fade to black’ to ‘describe every bead of sweat in pearlescent detail’. It really depends on what the fic calls for! I’ve done some I’m quite proud of tbh, but there are others I’d like to go back and have another stab at, just because they felt kinda cookie-cutter.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of!
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
There’ve been a couple! I can’t remember which ones specially, but I had some people asking to translate some Breaking Bad ones, and I think a Mag7 one too. I remember someone messaging to ask permission like “We love your fics in Russia!” and that was a very sweet and wild thing to hear.
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes, I wrote one with @yoporkchopsandwiches! Our Victorian opium dens Breaking Bad AU lol. I was just thinking of that recently actually and remembering how fun it was to read what the other wrote! We plotted out most of it together, and then took turns writing chapters or scenes. But of course while writing you come up with other details or ideas, so we’d then present the new chapter to the other with all the new bits added. And it was so fun to read what the other came up with like ‘omg no way didn’t see that coming/good idea!’ and then picking up their idea from there. In that sense it was almost like improv but for writers.
13. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
That I’ve written? I think I’ve had the most fun with Goodnight/Billy, partly for the time period, partly for the dynamic, but mostly for the plausibility. While I really enjoyed writing BrBa, it felt more like it came from enthusiasm for the show, not the central ship lol. Don’t get me wrong, the chemistry and its potential was extremely fun to write in a fic setting, but I don’t find I actually shipped it while watching the show itself. Whereas it’s been nice with Mag7 to write for a ship that’s actually....more believable lol.
14. What’s a wip that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Ugh I can’t beLIEVE I have an unfinished fic up on ao3 lol it haunts me. I was sure I was done with Goodnight/Billy, and then early quarantine last year I had a train robbers AU idea, so I posted a couple chapters. But I don’t think my heart was super in it, I was more just messing around with the idea. I don’t want to delete it, but I’m also not super motivated to finish it haha, but we’ll see what happens. But tbh I like the poem summary better than the fic itself:P
15. What are your writing strengths?
Plotting, keeping things moving, and making stories feel visual maybe? They’re almost all movies in my head anyways, so I think I have good instincts for ‘cinematic moments’.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
I think I’m a little lazy, and also ‘end-product oriented’. In some ways it’s helpful to picture the whole fic before you write it, but sometimes it results in some scenes feeling slightly slapdash because I’m just trying to get them out to move onto the next. Like ‘everyone did everything I wanted to in this scene? Great, next.’ I could stand to ‘stop and smell the roses’ more while I write, and actually see what else I can do to improve a scene.
(also if I use a word once it sticks in my head I end up using it like 5 other times in a scene and don’t notice lol, I need to stop that)
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
All for it! Depends how it’s done though. I personally find long scenes of dialogue where you have to constantly jump down to the author’s notes for the translations to be distracting. I like when it’s integrated more naturally where actual translations aren’t super important. Like in River Grit, Billy overhears this little exchange between Goodnight and his childhood nanny:
“Ah c’est vrai, mon petit Bonsoir! J’en peux pas le croire!” she cried out and laughed as she embraced Goody. Billy realized with a start that he actually recognized one of the words: ‘Bonsoir’. Goodnight. (insert brief flashback of Goody teaching him the nickname) / “Ma Serafine,” Goodnight said with a laugh. “C’est vrai que tu ne vieillis pas. Tu vas me rendre jaloux, heh?” / Billy had no idea what Goodnight was saying, but he sure as hell recognized Goodnight’s tone for flattery, and it was confirmed when the old woman laughed and smacked his arm.
What they’re actually saying is: “Oh it’s true, my little Goodnight! I can’t believe it!” / “My Serafine, it’s true you never age. You’re going to make me jealous”. But it doesn’t matter because this fic is from Billy’s POV so it’s about how he experiences the language around him, which is why I wouldn’t have included a translation for the reader. If you understand it then it’s a bonus, but the words themselves aren’t really the point!
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
That lil Lord of the Rings fic.
19. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
Hmm for Mag7 I’ve always liked River Grit and love how it turned out. I also think Ashes feels very complete as a fic and I liked the flashback format. And while it’s not my favourite fic, in hindsight I’m impressed with the Kingsman football fic and how I had to write about 5 different soccer games and make them all feel different and exciting, and not just some variation of ‘He kicked the ball!’ I’m really pleased with how those sequences all turned out.
La fin! Not tagging anyone this time, but please feel free to do this if you see it! I love when people just take initiative to do these things without waiting for a tag (also please tag me in it if you do, ‘cause I love reading these things lol)

I ship muren and li cheng bc i only saw it through gifs then i watched this episode cos i was like im only starting this show if they kiss im waiting and they did and it was nice and i got so anxious that i was about to fucking vomit. I really like them together. The top/bottom shit is dumb and i hope if they must mention it they all build a bridge and get over it so they can switch cos who gives a shit. I didnt realize how large they all are like most “tall” men on tv are lying. But bc that kid is so thin and tall and the other one (idk the stepbrother) is huge too. Li cheng is shorter than them both but more ~manly~ but still short so why doesnt he take a DICK UP HIS BUTT XD since that’s all that fucking matters and there’s only 2 genders and 2 eays to have sex lmao so nothing else otherwise ur screwed
Hd a terrible past couple of weeks personally and because i keep seeing my peopl eget murdered and things ripped from us ^_____^ anyway here’s Some libertatrian communist dumb bitch discoars so i’ll tag it:
keep in mind these are my opinions’”” when i engage in discourse. I am not the end all be all and I don’t need you to agree. There’s some shit I am non-negotiable on but thsi is just exchanging of information. Any authoratative tone I take on comes from my beliefs, my life, my experiences, and what I choose to cultivate as a person and an artist. I dont have control over your feelings, you do. If it hurts you then either tell me the issue and be PRECISE about it, understand that context matters which is why i type so much in engagement, and do not fucking lie or misconstrue my words. Do not call me western ever in your life either. I am a black-american. I have adhd and bc i am a black woman if ur automatically thinking im brolic i am accepting money in my paypal for ur wellbeing to get me to shut the fuck up.Thanks.
The stepbrothers storyline is stupid and lazy writing. I really want to counter people that say it’s written well and that it’s interesting because it isn’t. Even if it was illicit and fucked we can write a story out about this. Let’s rethink what they could have done shall we:
- become stepbrothers at about 16 and their parents mismanage the relationship and they fail in trying to get an integrated family together (this is what happened in the #iconic transit girls and that was fuckin’ weird but hey dude guess what we watched it and it was weird but not unethical and we know one is like 19 and the other is 21 and a girl so it’s like wow you avoided so much and handled their stepsister story very…….um lightly given the end lmao but it was there and people had AGENCY)
-OR you realize that freak is obsessed with him and then he realizes it and is like “bitch i swear to god” and in typical shtity trope BL fashion they can find a way from obsession, to loss and independence when you lose your obsession, to “love” if they choose
- have the fucked up shit but make it clear what the issues are and you literally cannot write your way out of it so do not try
But why can’t fucked up things be shown? Also this is realistic.
0. Well according to you but no one said that they can’t. So that’s on your interpretation of critique (that is, again, not bullying or harassment.) They can, i just gave plenty of scenarios in which it is affective and not just annoying to witness, trope-y, and frankly ridiculous and offensive. Sorry! They don’t do it well. You can come up with alternatives too. See #2 btw.
1. No it isn’t doing a good job of reflecting life because life has consequences. The exaggeration in drama doesn’t mean the arc shouldn’t be there. Almost always things that aren’t heavy with the message or meant to be sobering in a deep way are COMPELLING. The realism is the basis for art because we are human. This is not the way real humans act.
Someone said Tharn Type was mature and I had to laugh because no, no one acts that way and is “in love” if they act that way that means they fucking hate each other and they’re immature and frankly it’s just not that interesting for many of us to watch because the dramatization of the “realism” is fucking bonkers. That was such poor writing it is unbelievable and someone has the audacityt o say it’s how real adults act. Fucking murder me if I’m with someone for 7 years and we break up over a miscommunication and for some reason I am not as horny as my always horny boyfriend. The fuck? What kind of lives do you lead? Either you are not an adult or you are an adult who needs therapy.
I also hear the “realistic” argument but then people try and temper it with “but also it’s fiction.” What do you think fiction is? Why do you think filmmaking exists? Number one, it’s propaganda in the sense that you want others to buy into your presentation and see what you see. That means that the creators are telling people and influencing them WITH ART BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT IT IS about their feelings around a situation. That’s why it is imperative to be responsible as a filmmaker and artist and underline the deepness of creepiness if that’s what they want. If they want to relay that rape sometimes ok and psychos are crazy so they get boy (??!?!?!? BITCH?) then they achieved it with no innovative information. We know people get raped bc we are human beings and many of us live with that fear. You know, being the target demo and all. And bc BL loves that trope it’s rape fantasy peddled to young people and women. Just like shitty wattpad fics or NYT best sellers. Hooray, what now? Or are you trying to purport that this isn’t glorified fanfiction? Which it literally is
2. This is the issue with these shows. No one is saying that fucked up shit cannot be shown. There’s a film about a woman who is raped and she falls in love with her rapist (because he was masked but i think we find out later that she knows. Binoche is in it.) I have no desire for that film—i think it’s by a man and i extra dont care—but I hear it’s sort of powerful for many. I heard it was a good film. But the act itself is always eschewed and the conflict comes from how fucking ridiculous it is especially finding out that she knows. The power imbalance adn the possibility. They may not have handled it in a way I would have cared for but it was there.
There’s simply no imagination because these people do not care that much and aren’t great writers and filmmakers because they simply do not have to be. Sorry.
The industry doesn’t rely on the best they rely on efficiency (this is everywhere.) You can tell by the camera angles, the editing, the camera itself (idk if it is multicam but the flatness is typical soap flatness without the glowboxes to soften their faces.) Simple constant lighting. Now the surroundings are mostly beautiful. But even to some of the costumes. And those edits are abysmal, some of that camera work.
So with all that said even with the couple I extremely enjoy I see its (H4) faults. Add into that a lazily thrown together “shocking” love and if they are trying to get us to feel a type of way about its sexiness they fail. This is why movies like 50sog, 365 days, etc aren’t enjoyable to people because it’s fucking strange situations that they dont want to entangle or make enjoyable to viewers across the board. They know what people will take. It’s just that bitch what are we here for if even the sexiness isn’t there for ur stupid story.
At least with that teenager and 30 yr old man in MODC (which i do not love but i like them in theory if it wasnt totally repulsive to me and also if it was developed in a way that was good TO ME) they had their, er, “sex appeal” i talk about this as well the main couple in MODC to me, visually, was a miss. Not bc whatshisface was small and stuff but bc he was so sickly and they needed that to propel the story but it was just not appealing given how the story progressed. A missed opportunity in tying the two together besides making him look waif-y and sickly only to have the “did ur mom die in a car crash? No, cancer” type of move in not another teen movie. But the opposite. And not funny. Wayne tho????? GORL. Eggs. Cracked.
fandoms have a very warped sense of harrassment and discourse.
Most fandoms have harassers who are “protecting” the cast and crew who don’t need their protection (or maybe the crew does since they probably dont get paid well but why the fuck would anyone care about that lol) but very few have the people who have concerns or massive critique about the show are not going to be “bullying.”
If people are saying “if you like xyz, u suck” then sure it may suck for you to see but who fucking cares. Either talk to the person or don’t be friends with them. That is not bullying or harrassment. Things that are shitty get criticized. Fuck, things that aren’t shitty don’t. Get away from this idea of cancel culture and people misunderstanding the story. We have the ability to.
Think beyond your noses of personal preference. You don’t have to convince people of what you believe. Discussing it is good but critique is not bullying, harrassment, or hate. Neither is fucking roasting shit because even this shit I like (manner of death lets say) deserves it. Art is meant to be critiqued and if you dont fucking like the bullshit people make then say it. They know stupid stories like this are scandalous and they don’t give a shit in how to present them.
And guess what? You won’t like everybody. Many people can’t stand me i’m sure. Oh well. I mean frankly I don’t like that and I feel very unsettled when I don’t feel understood. That’s ok! I have to temper it. Sometimes calm myself down. I won’t get anything and everything I want. And you won’t like every opinion and sometimes it’s like “man am i a dummy?” But the part of growing up is fucking maanging that and beng honest about “bashing and harrassment” and “bullying” and growing up. Yuo can like what you want the “let people like what they want thing” is so fucking juvenile and THAT is not the real world. Which is probably why so many people feel that way, they dont want to live in the real world. Unfortunately, you do.
Think beyond our noses of personal preference and what we feel emotionally in conjunction with others. You don’t have to convince people of what you believe. And you can say things that you believe to be true but it doesn’t make them so or maybe it isn’t received that way to people. And many times we learn new things in the discussions “oh shit i didn’t see it that way” right? Discussing it is good but critique is not bullying, harrassment, or hate. Neither is fucking roasting shit because even this shit I like (manner of death lets say) deserves it. Art is meant to be critiqued and if you dont fucking like the bullshit people make then say it. They know stupid stories like this are scandalous and they don’t give a shit in how to present them. Usually the “opposition” in these situations aren’t the popular beliefs that permeate through society. Trust me lmao
Antiblackness
Antiblackness is a thing. It permeates everywhere. It permeates in this genre and it permeates in fandom. Get it the fuck together. Also do not conflate cultural relativism with being repsectful. They are not barbarians, they are smart human beings either making work or deciding to. We all have diff cultures but we have fucking sense in what is respectful and not. And if we don’t we fucking learn. You cannot excuse things and say “oh culture” when you have 0 idea of that culture or actual people who are radical etc and are fighting against it. Additionally the word westerner is an ignorant term when referring to people in the US or UK who are black. Because we are not. We extend sympathy to other groups and empathy since we know so there is no inherent power imbalance between a black viewer and their subject. Don’t suggest that because it’s wrong and ahistorical and contextless.
FIRST the fallacy of representation as freedom makes people fucking complacent, individualistic, and doesn’t let them think critically. Consumption and discourse around consumption is not helping material conditions of the marginalized communities in your home, the black ones who are ignored, those intersectionalized in these communities. Groups talk about art and what it means for them outside of just what we see and because we also don’t have access to a bunch of Thai reviews or what movements or going on we are less likely to know if we don’t FUCKING SEARCH for it. Because art is constant...which leads me to....
Representation is difficult. It matters and it doesn’t.
Tthese shows are not meant to overturn the LGBTQ+ community.
There are queer filmmakers and artists in these countries. Deep illustrious film careers or even TV that is moving and deliberate. We can even see it with the dude from “your name engraved” in their short series he was in beforehand. BL is no wa pejorative because it is simply not “qu**r” storytelling whatever that means. But know it has always existed everywhere and there are also out artists or radical artists in all these countries who do no respect mediums that are cash-grabs and poorly made.
ex: As much as “Like in the Movies” sort of isnt for me and is a bit hamfisted you can tell how much love goes into that. Love of the characters, acting, and message. Yes it’s cringey to see some of the lines (like very tbh subtlety wasnt exactly their strong suit) and yea naming them after lenin and marx is just 0ihgoaudgijposkagjihou BUT GUESS WHAT? THEY FUCKING DID IT. THEY TRIED. And class was a large component as well bc u cant fuckin ignore it. The show is aware of the machinations in its world as a show but also in the philippines and for a fuckin reason. And duatarte? Loooooooool so like yea not so sure bl makes him love his ppl but the show isnt trying to do that
It’s not a transgressive genre and it has no reason to be. No ethical anything under the way we live it’s just trying your fucking best to be. That’s it. They serve societal ills and capital’s purposes. Which is fine but it is not revolutionary.
These countries in SEA or even SA do not have as big budget for even mainstream dramas—though things are changing and that’s bc REVENUE like revenue from kpop is fucking huge for SK and again so much about that is bc of what happened in their history from japanese imperialism to WWII to the US—so for “queer” stuff it is sort of now important to make that an export and it sure is one. Not only globally or to the west but a lot of these places make their money within asia (duh!) outside of their countries. OBVIOUSLY. so BL is a way to output and gain money. The thing is, it doesnt seem to be put back into the industry at all. For people in all these countries to make works that aren’t for mainstream or wont reach as many people there’s a difference between trying and just shoving shit in your face and going here it’s gay you like it right? But dont antagonize the inherent patriarchal nature of BL.
Another thing: did you guys know thailand was never colonized? You should look it up. There’s little hints of things in ITSAY to represent french influence still. Isnt that fascinating? Find out why. It’s certainly interesting that the representation, though damaging and dubious many times and also incorrect like any media, is huge in asia and this isnt a commodity here (the US) exactly. A lot of that has to do with colonial ideas of gender of which I am sure. But listen………lmao
Sometimes people dont give a shit. And it very much shows. Here is the thing once again. GOOD TRANSGRESSIVE WORK exists.
Een within the capitalist Bs paradigm or you can see people trying (I can sort of applaud parts of lovely writer) also queer media has always existed everywhere the reason you don’t know about it is because it gets takena nd commodified into a mainstream product. We hvae little incentive, particularly if we are not fans of cinema or art in gen, to search fror others when the output is right here. Being dictated by others and the state and who will give you money. No longer an effort of a cast and crew who want to convey things. But google [any country] independent cinema, radical cinema, queer radical cinema, or even retrospectives on the cinema and rethinking what is queer and radical in film. What if we took that, diluted it, got rid of the creators who put themselves through all the work, ignroe al the nuances and do……………….two actors who are conventionally attractive with no chemistry making out.
It’s the same here lets say daniel kaluuya winning the oscar for the film about the BPP. I heard it was okay and not too offensive but it still isnt’ enough. It still isn’t like hwood isn’t trash, nnati black, misogynistic towards BW and women, and all that other shit. It was pushy but it can’t be enough where we are. Black KKKlansmen i think won an oscar, by circumstance i fuckin hate these award shows they mean nothing, and i like the film a lot but he has his misogynoir still resting in his films even if it is poignant. And it was a film that honestly wasn’t really made for black people. And should all art be a response to direct trauma or trying to make ourselves palatable when we’re just human?
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and it’s importance (capitalism) but also sorta individual responsibility
Considering a lot of these actors are rich and then just dip that’s another problem. Mainstream isn’t what sustains marginalized art ever. It doesn’t change in the vast ways we think it does. What changes is the people of these groups pushing, fighting, forcing and then capitalism trying to make it work under capitalism. It will not. It cannot.
This is why artists and labels often don’t mix or you see people like Sonic Youth doing whatever they want and pissing off their label but making them give them money. Same with Nirvana. Vince Staples. The thing is they can fight and make good shit but what capitalism helps people….not care? They don’t respect the audience? We’re getting those returns on poor executed product placement, lighting, editing, framing, fucking acting. And you surewon’t see mixed black asians in these shows. WHY R U is the oNLY one i have seen it in and he just disappears (but that was pretty cool.) so who the fuck is this representing? And before you start: asian countries are not homogenous the way we believe them to be. There are marginalized communities outside of even mixed people that are harmed. So you can skrrt cause on that one: you’re wrong buddy. But it gives us the IDEA of a paradise which is what they NEED.With representation and visibility comes consequence and responsibility as artists. What it allows them to do is coast and not think complexly because why should they; it’s mostly the fantasies of some older woman who probably has money and much less interaction with the world. It’s bonkers. And what that allows even further is for them to say YOU ARE THE THING THAT YOU CONSUME and the THING THAT YOU CONSUME IS YOURS. It is not, it is not your identity, form a close bond but figure it the fuck out. Especially for adults who are hellbent on twisting their minds into pretzels and can’t acknowledge what’s just laziness in art and not giving a fucking shit. Truly.
There’s damage that has been done from Parasite as he was supported by CJE&M and the bullshit obsession america had and eveyrone’s poor interpretation of it if they are rich. BJH is a socialist and he is a filmmaker. He has made films that are outstanding and cost a lot of money. But now a fear for indie filmmakers is just not being able to raise that much or have that much attention. Getting funding that helps them instead of expecting the Next Big Thing that is a fad because capitalism is trash. Yes this funneling of money is absolutely harmful to us artists. Even buying in is strategic. Additionally, that film is probs one of the most radical films to have that wide release and accolade (unlike “Sorry to Bother You” which i have a lot of thoughts about. One being that asian exports are acceptable but black ones are not. This is an overall art critique and global media critique. Blackness is removed, not respected.) However, filmmaking isn’t green, it can’t be socialist, and it’s a lot of work. They used tons and tons and TONS of water to do a huge beautiful feat but we still know there is a cost. We have to figure that out because it shouldn’t be. It doesn’t go back into the crew’s pockets the way it should and the work becomes that of the director’s and actors solely. It’s fucking hard. We have to do our part but it doesn’t mean we are doing it perfectly. We just have to try to do better. So does BJH cos he needs to not be a misogynist but anyways i digress.
additionally and this is something some users fail to understand: people in the media sphere generally have fucking money. I went to film school that was international with super fucking rich kids. Taiwanese kids, kids from south asia, china, thailand. They had money. No not upper middle class money, not “rich” money, not some paltry 1m that’s chump change. Fucking money. Fucking RICH-RICH. MILLIONAIRES. BILLIONAIRES. WHICH IS DISGUSTING MIGHT I ADD. The domestic people didn’t have the money for school (in the UK) and i am in a massive amount of debt like every other black student that went there. You do not understand how much money is needed to survive so people who turn to these crew positions even casting etc need this fucking money usually. OKAY. A lot of the people that do well in these dumb shows or even on a larger scale HAVE MONEY. The reason these industries are small and struggling is because of lack of people and lack of resources to independent shit because oh gee it takes money to make things.
Why should I try? Well you don’t have to really if you have money or a name. Yet...
We can tell when like those Tik Tok shows or DCOMs dont give a shit (anymore.) You know how frustrated we get when content for young people is garbage? Well, see, BL is literally that under that system. Occasionally we will get something good now but there is virtually no need in any sector in the world at this point to truly figure out how to make it better and what to do to enhance artistic literacy, outreach, teaching people new things, getting people from these communities there and having true realistic says. Art and culture is IMPERATIVE TO WORLD LIBERATION but not when it is so stiffly trying to bend to capital’s idea of progressiveness. No. Neoliberalism. No.
That’s why in a way ITSAY is a huge feat; it takes from films etc and they clearly had money (the actors rae rich too which….lmaooooo j’aime pas) but it was a respected fucking script, acting was important, blocking, framing. There’s very little to critique as a visual medium for that because I understand what they are trying to do, their market is going to be mostly young girls, but they RESPECT THE FUCKING AUDIENCE. And guess what guys? You can make money from it!!!! WOAH! Since that may be the only goal which is disgusting and repulsive.
HOWEVER AND THIS IS WHAT IS SAD: itsay is an ex of a great show however knowing the actors backgrounds and the pseudo trouble it stirred when they weren’t supporting people protesting against the coup in the summer it really put a damper on my enjoyment. And this is how we can see that:
a) it’s honestly just a show and a good one but b) now what?
These kids (actors, who are like idk 19? 20?) are rich and not saying anything while countless actors, who were filming, did. Even tul who has $$$$ and the thing is the protesting against the coup legitimately attacks the rich. As it should. The protests going on were cries for help, against a dictatorship and fucking coup, asking people to get fucking help for covid, having kids be able to live. There’s a mini on VICE about this and it probably doesnt go too in depth but there’s a kid in there who talks about his friends getting into drugs and how he just wants to make music, have fun, skateboard. And it’s harrowing to see. This is a direct example of what these things do and don’t do. Yea we know a good show is here, we know growing up and slice of life, we know this is a bit of escapism and idealism but the idealism is reflected in the way these actors also choose to live their lives. So what progress? To who? For who? How is this helping me? What purpose does it serve? I say ITSAY serves its purpose as a piece and a glimpse into possibility of growing up but i do not say it antagonizes a broader issue that needs to be relevant in some sense but simply is not. It’s very singleminded and, well, it’s sort of like “besides my sexuality, what do i have to worry about?” But for real humans like....a lot. I do not respect their decision at all.
Why can’t we do our jobs and make something decent and respect our audience? No time, gotta make that sweet sweet sweet cash baybee. Look how progressive we are! Don’t look at history and material conditions. Thanks in advance, management.
History 4 does not have that respect. Many of these shows do not. Sometimes we hit good, sometimes we don’t. But in the end we cannot settle. And I won’t. If I am critiquing something I will not be shy and if I am meant to enjoy something as escapism then these shows NEED to highlight that and it’s rare sometimes (the best twins is a good reminder like that show is bad but man do i Brain Empty when i turn it on and i like that and there’s not much in it that makes me want to kill myself from annoyance but there are transphobic jokes i dont love however the whole show is a comedy about this dude’s crazy homophobic sister and she is constantly positioned as wrong and they talk about the aforementioned trans women as the actor was in drag. Interesting that they can manage that, huh?)
Oh btw.....taiwan has a very complicated history but ignore all the bad stuff it’s good now you can kinda sorta get married and stuff. KMT? You know how i learned that? I care about human beings and read about it lmao. I am not Taiwanese and look at that. So now I have historical and DIALECTICAL~**~*~****~*~*~ context so i can judge it as an artist, a black woman from america, and from the knowledge i have to pick up on their history to see if this fits into a broader picture besides the micro-one of sexuality on an individualized level. And this is kinda where it comes full circle: these shows are not you, you are not them, they do not exist in a vacuum because nothing does. The failure to critique now means continuing on as it has and it will still do so. History and time are not linear in the sense we think it is. Someitmes things are better, sometimes things feel more austere. We are not living under liberation though and these shows are not going to do so. So they are not US nor are they for a nebulous “us” of which the groups are all fractured and have diff opinions anyway (my opinion as a black american is going to vary from an asian woman’s say and that could really clash and i do not feel solidarity with all those in every community i am for several reasons.)
Final thots that have taken up my time and the only thing i actually wanted to write but got distracted:
Anyway my dissertation is that I ilke Muren and LiCheng a lot a lot and i like how cute they are and how truly dumb li cheng is. This is an example of mostly good writing, decent actors, nice chemistry, and sort of a calmness to them. And I super enjoy how Muren is pretty forward with LC in the sense that being together is like very important to truly be together. When he was like “no i didnt forget!” Or when LC asked him something in the office I forget it was 6 am and again i almost threw up and muren nodded and then LC leaned on him. Very cute. I want more of them tho i may have to skip that othre couple (the cameo the ones from MODC) but omfg the younger one HIS HAIR GREW SO MUCH HE LOOKS SO MATURE AND CUTE OMFGIJ0HUG9SAOGIJPKOAGJSIOHUAGIJP hahhaha the one good thing i will say about THEM.idk how old the actor is i figure he was young idk it makes me happy to see him he’s very cute. I hope he’s in something i can watch and not gag at. Is he hot? Who knows but he is a cutie!!
Anyway muren and lc have a good thing going it’s nice to watch ho\pe they dont fuck it up but im truly a sucker for some true finds 2 luvas i think some user on her\e was like i’m not a fan of friends ot lovers bc it doesn’t seem like they’re actually friends and maybe they were referring to this show idk. But it made me think and it was a very good observation. So i think they are friends and also luvrs <3

It is human nature to gravitate toward people like you!!!
I genuinely hate when people force certain relationships or whatever in the name of not being x-phobic. It's become manipulative at this point honestly. "Oh you wont date me because xyz? That means you're x-phobic". If you pay attention, it usually the reason behind things that makes it problematic.
Ex. 1.:Race
It is not automatically racist if someone prefers to date inside their race. That actually makes sense if that person is proud of their racial identity. However that doesn't take away from anyone who doesnt have a racial preference at all. Something that WOULD be problematic automatically is having a racial preference that is not your own. But not in the sense of "you wont date me hmph" but more so its problematic to fetishize a race. If a black person, for example, preferred to (or only) date(d) Asian people, and you were to ask them why they have that preference you'd only get fetishy reasons. A person's racial identity isnt a fetish. Another problematic preference is specifically preferring NOT to date "yourself". If a Asian person preferred to NOT date other Asian people that's problematic because that signifies that you're not necessarily proud of your identity as an Asian person(disclaimer: the only reason I used Asian people as an example is because I didnt want to double up on black people as an example for problematic ideals). But those are the only 2 things that dont require an explanation to be problematic. However if a white person prefers to date other white people, that's not racist unless their reasoning is racist. Some examples of racist reasonings would be:
Other races are ugly/unattractive/undesirable
My race is superior
I want my bloodline to remain "pure"
And there are probably more idiotic racist/prejudice reasonings. But sometimes it's just a matter of "I'm just more attracted to my own race" or some feel like they can relate to their own race more than others. Like as a black person I may prefer to date other black people because they know what it's like being black in this world and while Asians experience racism too, they will never know what it's like being black. And to be like "well you're problematic or racist because you wont date me" is manipulative and problematic within itself when that person hasnt actually displayed any prejudice/racist/problematic behavior.
Ex. 2.:Sexuality
Some people prefer to date within their sexuality simply out of preference. Of course there are ALWAYS deeper reasons for any preference but sometimes it just goes as deep as simple attraction. For Example, in the Lesbian community there is A LOT of biphobia. I have heard so many lesbians REFUSE(emphasis because it's a choice) to date bisexual women for the following reasons:
"They're confused"
"They're disgusting"
They're promiscuous
They're cheaters
All of these reasons are biphobic and are probably based on some heartbreak they had and are using to fuel their own ignorance. However there are some that are just attracted to other lesbians. The only way to tell the difference is to listen to them tbh a biphobic lesbian usually never fails to show their biphobia. However it is important to remember that preferring to date other lesbians isnt enough to call that person biphobic. Just like As a lesbian, I wouldnt call a bisexual woman lesbophobic is she was attracted to other bisexual people. It would ONLY lesbophobic if she had lesbophobic reasoning behind it. But if I called her lesbophobic for not dating me, a lesbian, then what's stopping society for calling me a misandrist for not being attracted to men? Or a homophobe for not being attracted to gay men?
On top of the fact that in my personal opinion its lesbophobic to make lesbians date anything that has a pulse and a v*gina.
Ex. 3.: beliefs and opinions
It is natural to not want to hang out with people who disagree with you on topics you are passionate about. Now if someone says their favorite color and it's not the same as yours, obviously, you're not going to stop hanging out with that person because your favorite color has little to no bearing on your life. However, if you believe that s*xually ass**lting someone is a very inhumane and shitty thing to do to someone then you're not going to be able to be friends with someone who thinks it's not that big of a deal and participates in victim blaming. What grinds my gears is that people act like they dont do this when they do. The only time you dont is when it's something you dont care about. Like a white cis heterosexual male might not like trump because hes an idiot but also it would stop them from befriending someone who supports trump because the things Trump does might not affect him like that. Example: I'm not transphobic and because I'm actively against transphobia I cannot hang out with someone who is transphobic or someone who hangs out with transphobic people. A step further with a real life example. I was once about to get involved with this girl and beforehand she asked me if I was a Christian because she wouldnt be able to proceed with the relationship if I wasnt. Fast forward I end up breaking up with her because she was being a close minded biphobe and she's like "well it's not fair that you're breaking up with me because of my BELIEFS." But we saw earlier that she does the same thing, the only issue is truly we didnt care about the same things.
The pull away here is that. You're not automatically problematic for having certain preferences, its usually the reasoning behind it that makes you problematic. You should always do introspection to be sure and evaluate why you have certain preferences to make sure you're not just a jerk. Thanks for coming to my tedtalk.

Hi, if you enjoy Whyborne and Griffin then I can wholeheartedly recommend KJ Charles to you. Her entire work in general and the Magpie Lord in particular. If you need/want anymore recommendations I can give you some pointers. In any case W & G just got its conclusion recently and I am very happy with how it all ended :D
Thanks! It’s funny because I was recommended Magpie Lord, Whyborne & Griffin, and another series all at the same time so I can totally see why you rec Magpie/KJ too. I think probably a lot of people would agree with you so I do think for anyone who read W&G or Magpie Lord and liked it, you should listen to sianascera :)
I thought about just saying “thanks!” and not saying more because I hate ever seeming like a contrary asshole, but I’m also way too damn honest and I felt like I’d be lying if I didn’t continue… This worry going back and forth stalled me for days on figuring out how to reply, because I’m a dork ¬_¬
To compromise, here’s a longer ass reply, but I’ll put it behind a cut so as not to bug anyone who doesn’t care.
In all honesty, I actually tried Magpie Lord before Whyborne & Griffin and didn’t like it, sadly, so I don’t plan to read anything else in that series. But I did think the beginning was intriguing, I liked the world concept, and KJ’s writing style was fine from what I recall, so I’ll definitely keep her in mind for other series. It might be that other series she writes will work well for the things I tend to gravitate toward and I just happened to not connect well with that particular series.
The problem I had with Magpie Lord is a similar problem I have with like 99.99% of BL or m/m, which is why I’m exceedingly picky with things I will read, and then what I like, and especially what I will go on to recommend to others. I don’t know how many series or books I’ve read in the m/m world but for the longest time there was only 2 series I recommended, and now it’s tentatively expanded to 4. Even within those series, I don’t find them to be perfect, but nothing is. Still, something about each of them overran any misgivings I might have otherwise had at any point in time (if any), and for all of the series I’ve read them multiple times which is otherwise not super usual for me.
Your comment caused me to analyze what it is about those 4 series that for whatever reason works for me as a reader that the other series out there I’ve read don’t. It isn’t necessarily about the world, the plot, the characters, the dialogue, the writing voice, the length, any of that. Those are all factors, but they are not the sole or even oftentimes primary deciding factor in whether I will ultimately like, reread, and recommend a story.
I realized that, for me, power dynamics between a couple is really important (especially in any sort of romance or romance-adjacent story), in that I don’t like relationships that don’t have trust, respect, and equality or give-and-take at the center of it. I also really prefer stories where consent is very consciously addressed, both in that it’s given but also that it remains, and if ever something wavers within that, it’s acknowledged and addressed. I really like stories that take their time getting the couple to get to know each other before it’s instasex, and where sex isn’t used as the way to solve or avoid problems without there being consequences, and where it isn’t just automatically assumed that sexuality = consent and interest. Like, I’m gay but I’m also ace. Just because there’s a woman who’s also a lesbian around me doesn’t mean I’m going to instantly want to sex her. Likelihood is exceedingly low for that, in fact, even if I weren’t ace.
I also like stories where the main characters’ merits and flaws remain evident throughout, but they find ways to accommodate each other, or account for the quirks of the other person. I really like stories where you can tell there’s love and respect and trust between the main couple, and especially when we first get to watch that be earned rather than jumping straight from meeting to xyz.
And then I’m also exceedingly picky outside of that entire topic; I’m a character-driven reader, so I have to connect with one or more characters well enough to stay engaged. I also get bored quickly, so I want the plot to be decent, although a great plot is even better. I like good dialogue or interesting narration. I appreciate versatile writing voices. Most importantly for a series, not only does the series have to be good in each book, but ideally over the course of the series it gets better, AND the ending has to be adequate or at least not frustrate me to the point that it tarnishes the rest of the series leading up to it.
I know I’m super picky about all this and that the majority of stories can’t really meet all those expectations, which is why I don’t read a ton of series anymore because I got kind of burned out over the years.
Also, to be clear: There’s absolutely nothing whatsoever wrong with anyone who likes all the things I mentioned I like to avoid. When I was younger, my view of power dynamics between a couple was drastically different than it is now. I also felt that at that time we had fewer options out there in general in the whole LGBT field, and one reason I initially got into m/m or BL is because it was the only LGBT content I could find at the time, plus because I was character-driven in feeling that some canon characters who happened to both be male really fit each other so much better than others did for them.
But the things I tend to like in this regard are not really super popular as a whole across the genre, so it just reinforces to me that I’m extremely picky on this particular topic. Which means that just because I’m too picky for certain things, others may super love it, and that’s awesome! I love that there are so many different stories out there, so many different perspectives both as readers/writers as well as within the stories themselves. It’s so awesome
I actually do totally plan to read that one short story that KJ and Jordan wrote together--I took a break from W&G because I’m now rereading for the millionth time the Raised by Wolves series by W.A. Hoffman--but I think it’ll be really interesting to see if maybe that story pulls me into a different world KJ writes, who knows. I think it’s so cute that The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal was mentioned in W&G as a book Griffin just had lying around. For some reason, that little detail delighted me lol So I’m def curious about the whole Simon Feximal thing. Especially since the art I saw commissioned for it looks dooooope
Oh btw, though - side note, the cover of Magpie Lord is so cool! *___* I love it so much!
Anyway that was my unnecessarily long answer, sorry lol I just didn’t want you to think I ignored you if I never mentioned Magpie Lord again. I was bummed I didn’t like the story, tbh; it started out strong for me and I went into it initially assuming I would love it. Unfortunately, in the end it just happened to be a story that didnt work for me primarily because of the couple, but like I said, I’m definitely up for trying other series KJ writes, starting with Simon Feximal ones. Depending on how that goes, I’ll see about checking out anything else she does.
And if it turns out the Simon books also don’t work for me, it’s just a personal thing from someone who’s picky as hell about certain things. It’s definitely not a reflection on KJ as a writer, because you can tell at a glance her works are well-loved by many, and that makes me super happy. I love it so much when there’s a writer who’s able to create worlds and characters for readers in a way that they genuinely love and connect with and want to spread their joy to others. It’s such a beautiful thing :)
Thank you for the recommendation! Sorry I’m so picky I couldn’t take it to heart as much as you would have hoped, but I super appreciate the recommendation, and I hope others are less picky than me and are able to enjoy the series fully because it’s certainly an interesting premise :)

Problems in tech support number ???/??? aka “Well fuck me for wanting to give you the right answer, I guess”
LONG POST
So it’s been a few hours (just now getting home) but just before I was done for the day I get a call from a woman named Nadine. That’s not even a fake name. Fuck this bitch.
Anyway, Nadine calls in, and the call starts like this
Me: *generic greeting* Nadine: *mumbles name* Me: I’m sorry, I didn’t catch that. Can you repeat your name for me again? Nadine: *literally shuffles the phone around as she’s talking so I only catch like part of what she’s saying* After two more times, I go Me: Could you just spell that for me please? Nadine: *rapid fast mumbles out her last name* Me: Ok, I need your first and last name to assist you. Can you please repeat it slower and clearer? Nadine: *finally gives her last name. Something with an L I don’t remember right now*
Me: Ok, what can I help you with Nadine: I’m calling because I need some help Me: Alright Nadine: *literally says nothing* Me: *waits* Me: What did you need help with? Nadine: *literally says nothing* Me: *louder* Nadine, how can I help you? Nadine: I need to send an email to a client, secure.
That’s actually super simple
Me: The system will automatically detect emails with [secure] in the subject line and encrypt them. So you just need to put secure *spells it out* in brackets. You know, the square parenthesis Nadine: Brackets? Me: The ones that look like a square, not the round ones. Nadine: Oh, ok.
I wait a few moments
Nadine: It doesn’t say it’s going to send secure Me: It won’t. If you have [secure] in the subject, it’ll automatically encrypt it when you hit send. Nadine: Well. I need ALL of my emails to send securely
You absolutely do not.
Nadine: I used to have it set so that every single email sends securely
Literally not a thing that we have
Me: Every email? Every single reply to any email sent secure? Nadine: *back peddling* Every external email
Again, not really a thing. Also not a thing you’d realistically want. Our secure emails are a fucking pain to get into so you wouldn’t want everything going out secure.
Me: ... are you sure? Nadine: *now bitchy* YES. And I need you to fix it for me.
Ok, so that’s not a thing that I can do because it’s not a thing we have. So I remote in with her, and low and behold, this bitch has the email with (secure) not [secure]. I explain this to her and she refuses to believe me. One of her coworkers comes over and literally says the exact same thing that I did. Nadine corrects her mistake, is super nice to her coworker, then turns back to being a bitch to me
Nadine: SO I have a VERY important client who needs to send me some files securely. How can she do that? Me: Well, we can’t control how someone emails you-- Nadine: Yes you can! You’ve done it before!
Nope
Me: Nadine. That’s literally not possible. We can’t control how something leaves a completely different network. Nadine: WELL YOU NEED TO FIGURE IT OUT Me: There’s nothing to figure out. It’s not possible. Nadine: WELL, how is she supposed to send me a secure email? Me: I don’t know what options she has at her disposal so--
At this point Nadine starts shouting over me about how majorly important this client is, and how she has to send in a TON of VERY important extremely sensitive documents. Ok, so I figure this is a huge deal, so I start
Me: Well, there’s a few ways she could do it. If it’s a lot of files, your best bet would be a site like Dropbox or Intralinks-- Nadine: *cuts me off* No. NONONONONO! NO. That is not right Me: ...????? Nadine: I need to know how she can send files to me securely. What do I tell her to do?
Ok, I was just trying to explain that to your dumbass but ok.
Me: Again. If she’s just sending you an email, she’ll have to encrypt it on her end. If she’s trying--- Nadine: Well, a lot of other banks
Intermission: I fucking hate it when people say “well other companies have XYZ”. Ok, but this one fucking doesn’t, Fam.
Nadine:-- have a place where customers can just upload files to.
We don’t have that.
Me: We don’t have that. Nadine: *angrily* So, so what? What do I do? Me: I was trying to tell you-- Nadine: She wants me to send her a secure email and then she just replies with the files attached. But she wants it encrypted Me: Well, if it’s a TON of files, our max attachment size is-- Nadine: *cutting me off* That’s what she wants to do. You need to tell me how.
And at this point, my customer service is just ... I don’t give a fuck
Me: I’m not 100% positive on this, but I believe if she replies to your secure email *boring explanation*. But, as this is very important, I’d like to double check, if that’s alright? Nadine: Yeah fine whatever. Me: *puts her on mute for all of 2 minutes, tops while I research. It’s 6:30 something, so pretty much everyone is gone for the day* Nadine: UH. HELLO? Am I still on hold? Me: Yes, I’m still here. I’m just trying to get a confirmation that that will work-- Nadine: Ok. Fine. Me: *resumes researching* *messages the few people who’re still here* Nadine: UHHH HELLO?  Me: Yes, I’m still here. I will let you know when I have a definitive answer. Like I said, I don’t want-- Nadine: Ok. Whatever. This is ridiculous. Me: Unfortunately, you called at 6:30 at night. The network and email teams are all gone, so I can’t get a quick answer from them. So I’m conferring with as many of my colleagues as I can to try and get-- Nadine: OK WHATEVER.
At this point, I’m starting to get annoyed. This goes on for probably 10 minutes, largely because I keep having to stop and repeat myself to Nadine.
Nadine: Can you IM me please? Me: Why? Nadine: I need your contact info Me: ... why? Nadine: I just. I need it. Right. Now.
Now, I am under zero obligation to provide such info.
Me: Again. Why? Nadine: Just IM me. Now. Me: Once more. Why? Nadine: DO IT
Nope
So I ignore her and go back to trying to get an answer for her. Maybe a minute or so late, Nadine starts bitching again.
Nadine: This is unacceptable. I’ve been on hold for over 25 minutes. I NEED your contact information right now so I can leave feedback Me: Nadine. This call has not even been 25 minutes. It’s been about 15. So, no, you’ve been on hold for only a few minutes, and I’ve explained to you what I’m doing. Now you can take my initial suggestion and hope for the best, but I’d recommend-- Nadine: See?! Things like this is why I need your name.  Me: I told you my name at the beginning of the call. Nadine: Well, I need your contact info.
So, she’s been screaming at me for pretty much this entire call, and is getting increasingly aggressive. Fuck all if I’m gonna give her my personal info.
Nadine: I’m asking you to give me your contact info. Me: Why? Nadine: What if we get disconnected? Me: In the event we get disconnected I always try and call the customer back. Or you can call us. Nadine: Well, how am I supposed to get tech support?? Me: ... the same way you got it now. Just call. Nadine: WELL. What if I need to IM you? Me: Look, I don’t do tech support through IM. It’s not proper procedure. If you need support, give us a call or email or open a ticket through the self service portal. Nadine: UGH can you just IM me? Me: Why?
At this point Nadine starts shouting and screaming about how ridiculous this is and demanding my contact info. Again, I gave her my name at the end of the call, and it’s emailed to her when an incident is opened anyway. But, I don’t especially feel the need to repeat myself or explain that. And I don’t have to.
Nadine: I want your contact information. NOW. Me: No.
And the line just goes dead.
It’s rare that I tell a customer flat out no to a request. This is the first time in a while. But given that the request was idiotic... no.
Nadine: Uh. What did you just say? Me: No.
Nadine sits in silence obviously expecting me to say something else. I don’t.
Nadine: SO. What are you going to do? Me: Well, I’d planned on resuming helping you with your issue. But if you don’t want me to-- Nadine: *literally screaming into the phone* JUST DO IT.
So I take the time to put her on hold and dick around on the internet for a bit before resuming researching because real talk I’m petty af sometimes. I check back in with her, tell her we’re all putting our heads together because the info we have is extremely outdated and we don’t want to give you the wrong answer. She seems to calm down a bit, then:
Nadine: UH. Hello?? HELLO? Me: Yeah, I’m here. Nadine: So, what are you doing to fix this? Me: I’ve already explained that. Nadine: Can you IM me, please.
We’ve been over this
Me: No Nadine: Well. I want your info. Me: I’m under no obligation to provide it.
Nadine stammers a bit, before huffing and puffing and presumably going back to work. We think we’ve figured out the answer to her question, and we’re just testing it our selves to be sure.
Nadine: This is absurd!! Me: Ok. So I think we’ve figured--
Nadine then launches into this super passive aggressive rant. I pretty much just ignore her so tbh I’m not entirely sure what all she said.
Me: Anyway. We’ve figure-- Nadine: I need to give feedback about this call. Me: You’ll get the opportunity to do so once your ticket is closed. Nadine: Well. You need to spell your name for me. Me: No, I don’t.
More huffing and puffing.
Me: Again, this call took so long because it’s a question we didn’t have clear information on. You stressed how importat this client is Nadine: She is extremely imporant to [redacted] Me: And how sensitive the files she’s sending you are Nadine: She doesn’t want them to send unsecure. Me: Right, which is what we’re trying to avoid. I don’t want to say “yep, that’ll work” and have it not and upset a customer, or put ourselves in risk of a data breech. I want to give you the right answer (which I’ve already figured out, she just won’t let me tell her). The info we have is very outdated, which is why I’m not fully trusting it.
Here’s the fucking kicker:
Nadine: Ok. I understand that. I understand you’re trying to do your job and help me. And thank you for being thorough so you don’t give me incorrect information
For half a second I think she’s about to get reasonable. Nope.
Nadine: But, I’m still going to file a complaint. Me: *completely ignoring her* Anyway, so here’s what your client will need Nadine: did you hear me? I’m going to file a complaint!! Me: About what, specifically? Nadine: Well, this call has been awful and taken WAY too long. Me: Most of the time has been me stopping what I’m doing to answer you. Anyway, we confirm-- Nadine: So, you need to send me your information. Me: No I don’t. Me: *resumes trying to explain the process to her* Nadine: Look, look. I get that you’re doing your job, and you want to be sure you’re correct. And I really do appreciate it. But I’m still going to file a complaint.
TBH I don’t give a fuck about this job rn.
Me: Sure. Now, your client will--
Nadine interrupts me again, and begins shouting more and more. Again, I pretty much ignore her and start packing up my shit because it’s about time for me to get off.
Nadine: Do you understand me?!
Nope
Me: Nadine. Would you like me to tell you what your client needs to do or not? Nadine: I want your name and phone number. Me: I’m not going to provide that. Do you want me to--
Nadine starts shouting more and more. This shit is getting REAL old.
Me: Nadine. If you need technical assistance, you can call TSC. For this particular issue, anyone who answers could assist you. I do not do tech support via IM. That’s not proper procedure. I’m attempting to assist you
Nadine: SPELL. YOUR. NAME. Me: No.
I just let the call hang in silence because clearly she’s not used to being told no.
Me: Now would you like my assistance or would you like to figure it out yourself?
That shuts her up. I give her an explanation of what the client needs to do. She asks me to IM her instructions. Nope, not that stupid. I tell her I’ll email it to her. She says it needs to come from my personal (work) email. Nope.
Me: All emails need to be sent through the ticketing system (technically accurate, to keep accurate track of communication). I am not going to send it from my normal email.
We go back and forth more and more, Nadine demanding to know my full name, where I’m located, etc. I refuse to tell her because fuck you psycho lady. Which just pisses her off more. Eventually I just start talking over her and end the call. I bring her up to my coworkers and apparently yeah she’s just a bitch like that.
I honestly hope she files the complaint. Because all of our calls are recorded now. So they’ll play it back and see that she was behaving wildly inappropriate. I guess we’ll see what happens.
TL;DR: Nadine is a bitch who doesn’t listen. She asked a question we didn’t have a clear answer on, and me not wanting to give her the wrong answer, start researching and reaching out to people. It’s super late, so hardly anyone is around, and the documentation we have is old as shit. The question is for a “very important” client, so ofc I don’t want to give the wrong answer, I tell her I’m going to research it and ask around and she flies into rages at me, demands my personal information and threatens to file a complaint because I’m, in her own words “doing my job”.
Fuck you, Nadine.

Putting this under a cut because I don’t rant very often and I don’t like doing it. But I’ve been thinking about things over the weekend, and I want to write my thoughts down somewhere. If I lose followers, that’s okay. After this, I’ll be back to my regularly scheduled reblogging. I won’t be tagging this as anything because I really just want to keep this on my blog. I just ask that you don’t reblog this with a super long essay about why I’m wrong™. Just chew me out on your own blog! Thanks.
Let me be upfront when I say that 99.9% of the time, I hate cons. Like, I borderline despise them. I know it can be fun for the people who attend, but as a second-hand observer, I don’t like them, I never have, and I probably never will. I usually try to just ignore them. Most of the time, cons seem to cause unnecessary stress and drama between everyone. And I mean everyone.
You have one group where they want to know every spoiler there is to know about the show, the upcoming season, etc. They wait for those nuggets of information and run with them. I’m talking about those people who make a mountain out of a molehill. In this weekend’s case, I’d say that the most prominent example of this is Marie’s comment of not wanting to play Echo because it would be weird later. The fandom automatically assumed that this means that Bellamy and Echo are having sex.
Sigh.
Okay one, we have no idea if she meant that. She never came out and said that they were going to be a thing (and she flat out spoiled going back into space last season way before the season finale). Plus, Sachin blatantly said that they were trolling the audience. So I take what everyone said with a grain of salt (I do this with everything at cons).
But even worse than that, this nugget of “information” has split the fandom into several camps. You obviously have the Bellarkers who are now freaking out at the possibility of BE. And newsflash, it’s okay if they are. Some people can’t control their emotions when it comes to this stuff, and that’s okay.
Then you have the groups that claim to have seen BE coming from a mile away and wonder why everyone else hasn’t. Which, valid. There have been enough hints that BE might become something eventually since season 2.
THEN you have the groups who claim that you have to at least be open to the idea of BE (or B+someone else) because xyz. Seriously, these are the people that are pissing me off. More power to multishippers, but some of us just aren’t. And no, I am not a terrible person because I don’t ship Bellamy with anyone except Clarke (newsflash: I don’t ship anyone with Clarke except Bellamy either. It goes both ways).
Who are you to tell us how we’re supposed to feel? Maybe we don’t want Bellamy in a relationship in space. Who says he needs to be in a relationship or have sex in order to be happy? I mean, what kind of message are you trying to send here? That sex=happiness? NEWSFLASH: YOU DON’T NEED TO BE HAVING SEX OR BE IN A RELATIONSHIP TO BE HAPPY. I’M A 27 YEAR OLD VIRGIN AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT I’M DEFINITELY HAPPY. SOME OF US JUST CHOOSE NOT TO HAVE SEX OR BE IN A RELATIONSHIP FOR WHATEVER REASON. AND THAT’S OKAY! Sorry, I’m tired. Apparently that’s a weird concept for people to comprehend these days.
Oh, and I’m not asexual. Not even close. I’m just not having sex. Hell, part of the reason why I wasn’t having sex in my 20s was because I liked a specific person and wanted to have sex with him, but he was in college and law school hours away. And then it just never worked out. But that was my choice, and I was completely fine. AND IF IT TURNS OUT THAT BELLAMY CHOSE NOT TO HAVE SEX FOR SIX YEARS, THEN I’D BE ECSTATIC.
For those of you who say that it wouldn’t be healthy for Bellamy to be mourning Clarke for six years, when did I say anything about mourning? Who says that in order to move on, you need to be having sex or be in a relationship? Let me go back to my law school friend. I was half in love with him for almost 8 years. We met when we were 19, and I finally had to move on when I was 26. Did I hook up with someone else in order to get over him? No. Did I eventually get over him? Yes. He’s been in a relationship for almost 2 years now, and we’re at the point where we can laugh about my feelings. I can say for a fact that I’m in a healthy mindset. Who says that Bellamy has to be in a relationship or having sex in order to be in a healthy mindset? Healthy does not automatically mean being sexually active.
And before you say, oh but Clarke got to have sex and have love interests, why can’t Bellamy? I didn’t like any of Clarke’s love interests either. Never liked Finn, definitely didn’t like L (though that more has to do with the way that some of her fans completely ignore certain parts of her character), and I didn’t like Niylah. I don’t have anything against Niylah, I actually don’t mind her as a character most of the time, but I felt that most of the time she was just used as a roadblock.
I’ve never said this before because I’d be crucified, but I’m like the only person in the fandom who didn’t like Gina. Sue me. We see her for 2 episodes, and she seemed pointless to me. And I’m allowed to feel that way. We have this thing in this fandom where certain characters are off-limits to being disliked. Well, sorry. I don’t like her. And yeah, I mainly don’t like her character because she was a love interest for Bellamy. Let me remind you: I dislike all of Bellamy and Clarke’s love interests.
Also, Gina is not a real person. Nor is Niylah. Nor is Echo. I’m allowed to dislike them. Hell, last time I checked, I don’t need a reason to dislike them. I’m not hurting anyone by disliking them. I’m not sending hate to the actresses who play them. Notice that I almost never blog about any of Bellarke’s other love interests. It’s because I don’t like them. I don’t spend time on things I dislike. You’re free to state how much you love Gina on your blog. You can say she’s the sweetest character ever. That’s great! You’re allowed to like her just like I’m allowed to dislike her.
Back to the fandom’s freakout about BE. Yeah, I’m one of those people who gets stressed out when Bellarke gets a new love interest. So what? I’m not sending anyone hate about it. I’m not ranting to the heavens about it. And even if I was, it’s on my blog. Not yours. It doesn’t even matter because I normally keep those thoughts to myself anyway.
I think sometimes people forget that you can watch a show for any reason you want. Maybe you like the post-apocalyptic story. Maybe you like the strong cast of women. MAYBE YOU LIKE THE ROMANCE. I’ve been a shipper since I was in high school, so at least a decade. I don’t know how to turn that part of myself off. I usually always ship at least something. And to be quite honest, the main reason why I’m watching the 100 is for Bellarke. I like the story as well, but I’m mainly here for my ship. And that’s okay.
Some people say “oh but it’s not about romance. You’ll always be disappointed.” Umm. My first real ship was Zutara. I crashed and burned with that ship. I know what it’s like to be disappointed in a show because of ships. But you know what? I got over it. I found new shows to watch, new books to read. New ships to ship. And there’s always fanfiction. I’m a fanfiction junkie. I’ll be okay. (Side note: I think Avatar is one of the best shows of all time. The lack of Zutara didn’t ruin it for me long term. I say long term because I was pretty disappointed when the finale first aired. But I love it again.)
I guess I’m just pissed off that people are telling other people how they should feel. If people want to be freaked out by the threat of BE, let them. I’m not telling you that you aren’t allowed to be intrigued by BE, am I? Seriously, just let people feel whatever they want. If they’re posting it on their own blog, in their own corner, then what’s the harm in that?
I also feel like I should clarify that I didn’t have any specific person in mind when I wrote this. It’s more just general trends that I’ve noticed for a while, but have been especially prevalent this weekend. This is not a specific callout post, nor do I want it to be.
And now I’m going back to keeping my thoughts to myself.

So, have you ever see someone bashing someone else because of a character? Like a person who says (insert random character here) is (insert a sexuality) and gets pissed off at someone who thinks that character is (insert different sexuality)?
Oh, most definitely.  What I usually see are people saying “this character is (insert LGBT+ identity here),” and then a bunch of straight folks saying “there’s no proof, they’re straight, why do you hate heterosexuals, you’re corrupting our youth by saying this character isn’t straight, they’re obviously straight, they had a girlfriend/boyfriend in xyz irrelevant episode, etc.,” and it’s exhausting to see so much of.
But I gotta say, like, I’m also not a huge fan of posts that are just “x character is gay.” I, personally, enjoy posts where people go more in-depth with that, and bring up interesting facts about the character’s life and personality much better, in relation to their sexuality, because I think it’s more thoughtful and opens up a genuine dialogue (it’s not that I think they should have to “prove” it, it’s just that I like to read more into these things, and understand a point of view that I may or may not share).
However, I get why posts like that exist.  All characters (and most irl people in general) are assumed to be heterosexual, just... automatically.  With fictional characters, that’s especially a problem, because it does alienate LGBT+ fans to just assume (and then aggressively insist) that a character couldn’t possibly be like them, when there’s just as much potential for them to be LGBT+ as there is for them to be cisgender and heterosexual.
So, those posts are usually a push-back against assuming every character ever is straight -- which I understand.  However, I see a lot of in-fighting within the LGBT+ community based on these exact sorts of posts.  It’s like we can’t accept that maybe a character is bisexual, instead of being gay, or gay, instead of bisexual -- or maybe a character could be multiple different kinds of sexualities and genders, but these LGBT+ people are often shut down by each other, and told that they’re “derailing” when they’re only sharing their opinion on a post.
Example; “Roxy Lalonde is a lesbian.”
Awesome headcanon, and it could definitely be true! Why not? That’s a totally fair post to make.  But then I’ll see someone respond with something like “that’s a cool headcanon, and I personally headcanon Roxy as bisexual!” And the response from OP, and people who agree with OP’s headcanon get verbally abusive toward the other LGBT+ person who is “dissenting.”  The person who shared their own headcanon is seen as stealing something from lesbians, from trans people, from gay men, from whatever OP originally stated the character was.
And I don’t get it, like.  The in-fighting... it’s not based on a whole lot when it comes to character headcanons, and I wish we could band together with representation standards instead of playing Oppression Olympics against each other.  Like, there’s nothing wrong with having xyz headcanons, and experiencing them as the truth for oneself.  But the verbal abuse and the personal shaming directed toward the people who see other potentials for that character are just... alarming.  It’s like we, in the LGBT+ community, are actively looking for reasons to hate each other, and it’s not particularly informative when based off posts like these.
Posts about characters’ sexualities and genders are important to open up dialogues and give representation to groups of people who are under/mis-represented and marginalized.
And, of course, there are inequalities within the LGBT+ community that need to be addressed.  I just don’t think character headcanon posts (and literally raking another LGBT+ person through the coals for seeing an opportunity for their own representation) is fair, unless the circumstances are very specific.
Now, if someone responded differently (than in my example) to an OP’s post stating “Rose Lalonde is a lesbian,” and the what they said was more like: “you’re wrong, she’s definitely bisexual, stop erasing bisexuals,” that’s an unfair response, and that is derailment, imo.  When you tell someone that they’re just wrong (and they’re a bad person for it), it leaves no room for a conversation between LGBT+ people; it just starts a fight.  And there’s nothing inherently xyz-phobic about headcanoning characters a certain way and making a post about it.
So, essentially, what I’m saying is that we should be able to openly share headcanons about characters’ genders/sexualities, without just outright shutting them down (on the respondent’s end and/or the OP’s end) and actively shaming/hurting the other person for having a different headcanon.
I mean, even if someone headcanons a character as straight -- for me, as long as they aren’t just shutting LGBT+ headcanons down, they, personally, can headcanon that character as straight all they want (if the character’s sexuality hasn’t been discussed in-canon, I figure it’s up for grabs -- if the character has been created with LGBT+ representation in mind, then I think re-imagining them as straight is erasure, simply because we, as LGBT+ people, don’t have a whole lot of complex, interesting characters to identify with in that manner).
Sorry, that was a long response!!! :’) Like all my responses, whoops... anyway:
tl;dr; Yeah, I see posts like that aaaaaaaall the time, and I wish these posts could be made about LGBT+ headcanons without straight people or other LGBT+ people simply shutting them down, regardless of whether the person shutting someone else down is the OP, or a respondent.

feel free to do all salt asks u like i love ur rumblings
oh hell yes.
What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?*frostiron, like................ why. also cullen/alistair.
Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?*spideypool
Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?it most definitely happened, but at some point i only started to unfollow people over opinions related to actual problems, like whitewashing or homophobia and so on. so i’m still in mutuals with someone who hates deadpool (cheers nicole, this one’s to you), but i definitely blocked someone who was spouting bullshit about sera and dorian.
Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?*as for today i think my biggest notps are cobblevale and oswald/bruce? i can’t say i saw any actual cobblevale content at all, but oswald/bruce is quite popular. i don’t like it. i don’t think it’s going to work, considering all the resentment on oswald’s side.
Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?*pharmercy lmao
Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?*not really
Is there anything you used to like but can’t stand now?*lucifer from wicdiv
Have you received anon hate? What about?*the good ol’ days of the enjonine discourse sure as hell were fucking weird.
Most disliked character(s)? Why?heather chandler because bullying, lucifer because transphobia + everything in the xmas special, tony stark because i’m tired and admiral hux because fuck nazis and fuck space nazis.
Most disliked arc? Why?i have very strong negative opinions on the enemy within, also i think the current sw trilogy is mostly garbage.
Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?woden! and i absolutely understand people who hate him. he’s a reprehensible person - and i hate him as a person, but love him as a character. he’s so mesmerizingly awful! you open every issue thinking OH, WHAT BAD THING WILL WODEN DO THIS TIME? and every time he somehow surpasses all your expectations. what a man.
Is there an unpopular arc that you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?I LIKE THE PREQUELS..............
Unpopular opinion about XXX character?at this point i don’t think i have unpopular opinions about any characters at all, god
Unpopular opinion about your fandom?it’s kind of shallow. good luck figuring out which fandom i mean.
Unpopular opinion about the manga/show?you know, now i wonder what would oswald look like in an actual manga. do you think he’d be a dark and rugged bishounen?
If you could change anything in the show, what would you change?so about this entire vicki vale plotline-
Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen…instead of the joker in the enemy within i wish literally anyone else was there.
Does not shipping something ‘popular’ mean you’re in denial and/or biased?in denial? no, not at all. biased? maybe - but it’s not automatically a bad thing. reylo is popular, and i’m biased against it - because i’m biased against ships based on abuse. i’m not saying fiction should stop depicting abusive relationships, but it’s important to recognize them as what they are - abusive. and until this happens... i’m going to be biased.
What is the one thing you hate most about your fandom?the massive amounts of lucifer content
What is the purest ship in the fandom?baphonysus
What are your thoughts on crack ships?i’ve got nothing against them, as long as they respect the sexual orientation stuff!
Popular character you hate?lucifer, solas, tony stark, han solo
Unpopular character you love?i really like woden!! and also sigi dijkstra.
Would you recommend XXX to a friend? Why or why not?things i’m currently most into are wicdiv and telltale batman, and i would! those are Good and i’d like to have more people to yell with.
How would you end XXX/Would you change the ending of XXX?telltale batman: an alt ending - vicki vale gets therapy and oswald and bruce make amends. they don’t become friends again, but at least they tolerate each other. there’s community service involved. and harvey ALSO gets therapy. lots and lots of therapy.
Most shippable character?laura wilson!
Least shippable character?tony stark lmao

too soft and not soft enough
oh to be dainty! oh to be delicate! i’ve always known that i wasn’t going to be the kind of girl that did ballet. for some reason people feel comfortable calling me a klutz or clumsy. i think they’ve all been men. i’m pretty sure all my boyfriends have done it. and i just believed them because they’d look at me like “ugh why don’t you just fix it?” as if that was something i knew how to do or even wanted to. they just took that for granted. oh how it diminishes oneself to feel as if you are clumsy, as if your limbs just throw themselves about wildly. i hate it. i’ve started asking people to not call me clumsy.
and yet, while i’ve always identified more with the elephant than with the butterfly, my emotional problems have always made it clear to me that i am also too delicate on the inside. of course, the emotional problems themselves didn’t communicate this, it was just all the people around me who did. so on top of the loneliness and isolation that you feel as a depressed person, i always felt “too soft”. feeling weak has been my main experience of adulthood.
it’s been hard to find a community where no one uses “being weak” or “being sensitive” against you. i’ve mostly found it, and yet some of the people closest to me continue to hurt me.
here’s a recent story:
my company got a chance to do a commission for a high-profile, well-regarded non-profit. we jumped at the chance and started working with them. my colleague (and friend) took the lead on the project and started working on it. he got busy with other projects and this one fell a bit by the wayside. he asked if i or our other colleague could take it on and i agreed to take it. it was very strange. a website where you pretend to punch trump. you click on his face and it wiggles. to finish the project, they wanted us to add sound effects (punching sounds and grunts), bruising, and blood spattering. they were very keen on this.
i started working on it, making the bruises a nice shade of purple, not too dark. i knew something was wrong when i started to look at it artistically, “now there’s a beautiful bruise under the eye” and there i was looking at a beat-up face, and i winced. i wasn’t able to separate the image of violence done from the feeling of thinking about someone being abused.
i tried to shove the feeling down, telling myself that it was just a job, i just had to finish it and then it would be over. but when i asked my partner (the third member of our business) if he had any ideas on how i could program blood spatters, he gave me a concerned look. i explained the problem to him and he looked as concerned as i was. we talked about it. i told him that i felt uncomfortable working on this and that it was making me feel bad. he said he understood and felt the same.
i felt conflicted because i had just agreed to take on the project the previous day and here i was giving it right back. my colleague was very busy and having trouble finishing all his work, and here i was backing out after agreeing to help him.
at my company we communicate via chatroom. i asked my partner what he thought i should say to the colleague who originally had the project. we discussed it and he suggested that instead of saying “hey i’m uncomfortable, can you take the project back?” i should say “hey i’m uncomfortable for reasons of xyz” and let him respond. that seemed sensible to me so that’s what i did.
this colleague of ours, our third member, has in multiple situations dismissed my safety concerns (relating to things like..driving too quickly, etc.). he has very significantly misunderstood me and has yelled at and accused me of things in the past. we’ve gotten through it all and it has gotten better, but he is still a major eye-roller. it rarely fails to set me off. (see: snap by sara ahmed, aka “feminist killjoy” .)
i knew that this request would trigger his knee-jerk dismissal. i got sad and anxious just anticipating it. i felt the shame of being once again “too soft”. “if only i could not be so soft!” i thought. i’ve tried and always failed. and anyway i hated not being soft. it felt like stone. i much prefer being sensitive, but having to deal with someone once again thinking i’m soft and weak and freaking out about it made me sad and tired just anticipating it.
and of course that’s what happened. here’s the exchange:
14:38 < me> i am feeling very uncomfortable working on this :( i don't like programming bruises and blood...   14:38 < me> and i don't know if i want my name on something like that...   20:24 < him> ok....   20:24 < him> look if this is too much to do I'll just do it myself   20:32 < me> it's not that it's too much, it's that i don't feel comfortable working on it.
ooh, not only did i get the derisive “ok...”, i got a mean remark implying that i was using this softness thing as an excuse for the fact that i just didn’t feel up to doing the project. how shitty is that?
i knew it would happen and here it was. why must any of us accept disrespectful treatment? now i have to go find my colleague, ask him to have a talk, everything will be very uncomfortable, i’ll say that i feel disrespected by what he wrote, he’ll play guilty and apologize, avoiding my gaze. (can you tell this isn’t the first time?). he’ll admit guilt even before i’ve had a chance to explain why i didn’t like what he said, which tells me that he doesn’t understand that i actually want him to consider my feelings, not just automatically apologize for whatever it may have been that he “messed up” on. this is all of course extremely maddening as well. and throughout it all he’ll be thinking “god she is so sensitive, can’t say anything to her.” when that’s not the case at all. to me, this all says that he still doesn’t understand what it means to be respectful. maybe he’s respectful to some people, but certainly not to me.
plus! i gotta waste all this time feeling bummed about the fact that i have to make an uncomfortable confrontation against a colleague and friend, strategizing about how best to bring it up and explain it to trigger the least amount of dischord, or i can shut up about it and just keep taking it..and taking it..and taking it..
this is one of the ways the oppressor does us in...keeps wasting our goddamn time making us try to prove our humanity to him while he keeps on stepping on us “accidentally” over and over and over again. mind where you step brother, and i’m the clumsy one?
