about the group's name: ♡ originally, i had "from here to there" in mind, but someone from the Discord gave me the name "destination point" and i thought it was much better, so i went with that. ♪

about the SEKAI: ♡ the Train SEKAI. no one knows when it left, or where it's going - just that it never stops. it's the perfect place for those who feel like they're lagging behind. just close your eyes and let yourself be carried away, right? but maybe there's something you can do… starts with a Miku and a Rin. the former's hardworking and talented, but the latter struggles - Rin is somewhat influenced by Ena's (and, to a lesser extent, Airi's) jealousy towards others.

Ichika hasn't managed to rekindle her friendship with her friends, and she's not doing particularly well. At one point, she meets Airi - who just quit being an idol. The two start talking and become friends, at which point they end up forming a band together. Airi wants to try finding a place where she could finally be taken seriously.

Ena's invited by Airi, and Minori - who had failed auditions recently - ends up inspired by Ichika's kindness, Airi's drive and Ena's determination, which is how she joins. (Haruka completely gave up on being an idol; something Minori is saddened by.)

In my mind, Ichika plays the guitar; Airi, the drums; Minori, the keyboard and Ena, the bass.

IDEAL HEAVEN! (IH)

the MORE MORE JUMP! adjacent unit, composed of Mafuyu Asahina, Emu Otori, Mizuki Akiyama and Shizuku Hinomori. ☆ an up-and-coming idol group that combines cuteness and sophistication.

about the SEKAI: ♡ quite similar to the Empty SEKAI, but with some idol influences - a broken stage with no one in sight. there's no bright lights, no colorful props. nothing. that SEKAI both comforts and pains Mafuyu. home to a lone Miku. sweet, hopeful, but genuinely crushed by the pressure she's feeling.

Mafuyu's mother wants a perfect child. idols are very frequently represented as being perfect - so, she decides that her daughter should become one, too. Mafuyu's not keen on the idea, but that's her mother; she's obedient, so she goes along with it.

Shizuku still quit Cheerful * Days, but instead of stopping altogether she ends up with Mafuyu. Emu wants to make people smile, but no one ever came; Wonderlands × Showtime was never a thing. so she decides to become an idol instead, even if it means she'll never bring back the Wonder Stage to its former state.

Mizuki's half-dragged into IDEAL HEAVEN! by Emu, who saw them looking with interest at idol merch. after bringing them to meet Mafuyu and Shizuku, Mizuki ends up accepting - the idea of wearing cute clothes and being called cute doesn't seem too terrible.

READY MADE SUCCESS (RMS)

the Vivid BAD SQUAD adjacent unit, composed of Haruka Kiritani, An Shiraishi, Shiho Hinomori and Akito Shinonome. ☆ two street musicians chasing after their dream, and the two girls they brought with them.

about the SEKAI: ♡ the Street SEKAI. weirdly, it seems Haruka's idol background has somewhat influenced its appearance. its inhabitants are Miku, Meiko and Len. this Miku is levelheaded, but it seems like there's something holding her back from going all-in...

after quitting being an idol, Haruka is invited by An to join her.

An's never met Kohane, and she never found a partner. Haruka is hesitant for a moment before deciding to give it a shot, though she keeps struggling with singing. Shiho tries getting more experience, meets Akito. no one really knows how these two ended together, but they both have a similar drive and take music very seriously.

eventually, they all start working together. Haruka deals with her guilt and, while she doubts she'll become an idol again, she's mostly made peace with what happened.

STARLIGHT ☆ EVERMORE (S ☆ E)

the Wonderlands × Showtime adjacent unit, composed of Tsukasa Tenma, Saki Tenma, Kanade Yoisaki and Toya Aoyagi. ☆ a strange troupe of people who aim to help others through their performances.

about the SEKAI: ♡ still very much Tsukasa's, so it's the Wonderland SEKAI. [kanade goes there for the first time and dies. alas, they're still a shut-in and this place is simply too colorful for her poor eyes.] starts with a Miku and a Kaito, though this version of the former uses far less onomatopoeias.

Tsukasa figures he needs to show the world how much of a star he is himself, and he drags his siblings into it (with varying degrees of willingness).

a part of Saki still wishes she could be in a band with her friends; she's only somewhat managed to repair her friendship with Ichika. but she's still happy to do something fun and lighthearted after all her struggles. Toya's very excited to do something with Tsukasa and his siblings. he also gets to stick it to his dad, which, honestly - is a bonus.

out of the three, Kanade is obviously the most hesitant about the whole thing. but she sees Tsukasa's drive to make others happy, something she shares with him, so she ends up agreeing. Kanade is… slightly healthier physically on account of the stubborn people looking after her, as well as all the exercise she does she does as part of Starlight ☆ Evermore. mentally? eh… we'll get there. i need her traumatized to be interesting. <3

LONELY SYNDROME (LS)

the 25-ji, Nightcord de. adjacent unit, composed of Nene Kusanagi, Rui Kamishiro, Honami Mochizuki and Kohane Azusawa. ☆ hidden behind avatars, these citizens of the web tell stories online.

about the SEKAI: ♡ the arcade SEKAI. this Miku is shy and withdrawn, though she one day hopes she'll be able to break out of her shell, just like Nene. alongside her is Luka - she has a bit of a teasing attitude and a catlike personality, but she always does her best to boost Nene's confidence.

about the group's name: ♡ syndrome refers to a group of symptoms - i paired it with the word lonely because i felt like it represented the atmosphere of an arcade. you're connected with people who share your interests, but at the same time, you're sort of separate from them. surrounded by people, but utterly alone…

Nene's social anxiety hasn't gotten better over the years. since she never joins Wonderlands × Showtime, she doesn't learn how to fight her stage fright.

but, she finds an alternate solution; using an avatar online. it's less stress-inducing, and it lets her pursue acting, in a way - it's not what Nene wants, but it's close enough. she figures she could be satisfied with that. Rui ends up figuring out what she's doing, and asks if he can help. Nene doesn't really have any reason to say no, so they start working together.

as for Honami and Kohane, they ended up on Nene's channel by pure accident. but her performances quickly became a comfort to them, since they were struggling at the time (the former because she no longer had her friends, the latter because of her lack of confidence).

unfortunately, ignoring your problems only goes so far, and eventually, her feelings give birth to the arcade SEKAI.

Dear Cristina!

Sorry to startle you, I just wrote “Dear Cristina” with the comma first and it seemed a little down. Thought I would try to spice it up a little. And I want to hear from you because I miss you and it’s highly annoying that you couldn’t be in New York. 

Why did Nene have to pick this exact time to visit you guys? Is it because she has faerie intuition and carefully decided to keep us apart? I mean, no, probably not, she seems like a pretty good person. But still! Show up a week later, Nene! Also disappointed to hear that she didn’t spill anything about what the heck is up in the Seelie Court. I guess if she had given up the court’s secrets to Kieran — who is, technically, the King of the Unseelie Court — the Seelie Queen would consider that “bad” and Nene to be a “traitor,” but that’s nothing compared to how much we want to know what’s up.

Anyway. We’re back from New York, where the weather was much worse than in London, but whatever. We’d sent that picture of the candlesticks from the church to Alec, and he showed them to his mom, who recognized them. She said Robert had brought them along with a bunch of other inherited Lightwood stuff when they left Idris for NYC, and she had no idea what had happened to them since, but they were probably in the NY Institute somewhere. Well, we’ve got the Ghost Sensor, so we said goodbye to Rupert and headed over. (Julian wondered whether Rupert misses us when we’re gone, but it’s hard to tell if ghosts can tell the passage of time. In any case we didn’t find sad faces drawn in the dust when we came back, or anything like that.)

So we saw Jace and Clary, of course, and Alec came to help. I think he was really curious since it’s his family’s stuff. (We were hoping to see Simon and Isabelle but they were off recruiting for Shadowhunter Academy. And Magnus stayed home with the kids. He texted us a video from their apartment where he asked Max and Rafe, “Are we going to help our friends?” and they both shouted, “No!” It was cute. I mean, Max and Rafe were cute. Magnus was maybe milking it a little.)

Finding the candlesticks was…pretty easy, actually, kind of anticlimactic. They were hiding in plain sight in the church’s nave among all the other candlesticks and candelabras and other candle-related things. And the Sensor led us right to them. So maybe they weren’t removed in the Blitz but instead the Lightwoods took them back? Or maybe they were removed and then brought back and sometime after that Robert’s parents took them out of the church? We’ll probably never know, but it also probably doesn’t matter since, whatever, we have them, mystery solved.

In celebration we ordered a pizza and ate it by the light of the candlesticks. New York pizza! It is the best. It hurts to say that a little, as an LA girl, but the truth is the truth. I’d missed it so. Pizza in London is…well, best not to speak of it.

So while we were eating Jace asked Alec if there was any news from Idris, and Julian and I kind of looked at each other because there’s never news from Idris, the Cohort have all shut themselves in there and refuse to come out or let anyone in, you know the deal.

Alec revealed that they had been working on some new variation on fire-messages that would be able to get through the wards around Idris. Mostly using Clary’s power to invent new runes. They’ve been sending them for a while, trying different things, but hadn’t gotten any responses until very recently when they heard from one of my least favorite people, Manuel.

So Alec and Manuel have apparently been sending messages back and forth. Zara refuses to respond and Manuel implied that she didn’t like that he and Alec were talking. Alec thinks he might be lying and Zara might not even know. But Alec also thinks Manuel is tired of being stuck there and might be their way in, since (as we all know) Manuel cares about Manuel above everything else, certainly way more than he cares about the Cohort’s supposed mission. Like Jace said, Zara is a true believer, but Manuel is just an opportunist.

This was all super-interesting, of course, but Julian and I started to feel bad remembering that Alec is, you know, the Consul. Julian said he knew Alec had important Consul stuff to do and it was great that he had come to help find the candlesticks anyway. And then Alec said a really nice thing! He said that their New York crew had always had to work in secret, that they’d always thought of the Clave as the enemy. Well, maybe not the enemy, but not their ally. The Clave they grew up with, you know, locked Jace in the Silent City and refused to believe that Valentine was returning. They would never have thought of going to them for help. So Alec said it was really important to him as Consul to actually be there for the Shadowhunters, to be someone they could know and talk to and bring problems to, rather than hiding. And I guess we did know Alec personally before, and they are his family’s candlesticks, but still, it was nice that he thought of it as part of his Consul duties to help us out, rather than thinking of it as something taking time away from his Real Work. He said this was his Real Work, and we’d better not stop coming to him and Magnus for help.

So then after a while Clary announced that she and I needed to have some girl talk and whisked me off to Taki’s for coffee. Julian she left with Jace and Alec. When last I saw him Jace was guiding him towards the weapons room to take a look at the collection of 17th-century Spanish military swords he’d recently found in one of the church weapons caches somewhere in New York. Julian watched me leave like a puppy being taken to the vet for shots, but I think he had a good time. So he says, anyway.

Clary and I settled into a booth at Taki’s. She wanted to ask me how I was doing, and I started telling her, but she seemed distracted, and I realized that maybe she needed to talk to me about how she was doing. Which turned out to be true. She’s worried because Alec likes to believe the best of people, and he’s really optimistic about the progress they’ve made getting in touch with Manuel, but Clary thinks Zara is a manipulative psycho. On which topic we agree.

“You think it’s a trick?” I said. “Or a trap?”

She said she didn’t know. But then she kind of argued with herself and said she understood how important it was to open up Idris, that she knew the Clave couldn’t survive forever split in two like this.

I said it seemed like it was really weighing heavily on them, and she kind of sighed and gave me the big news, or rather the lack of big news, which is that she and Jace have decided they don’t want to get married until the Clave is reunited. And Simon and Isabelle feel the same way.

“It’s not like there’s any reason to rush,” she said. She was looking out the window as she said it, though, and she sounded kind of sad. “But we don’t want a wedding where all anyone is thinking about is how Idris is off-limits and the Clave is broken.”

She kept looking out the window, so I asked if she saw someone out there, and she kind of looked guilty and turned back to me. “Oh, no, I thought I saw Jace for a minute, but it wasn’t him.”

Finally we got around to how I’m doing and I got to tell her the thing I’m worried about, which you and I have talked about a little. Which is that Julian and I are fixing up this house and I guess…we’re going to move here? Like, move to London. And out of Los Angeles for good. And I haven’t really gotten to think about what that would be like. I was thinking of it as a kind of temporary thing where we would fix up the house and then go home. And it’s easy to feel that way because of all the stuff going on with the Clave.

But for Julian, this will be our new home. And I can’t blame him for wanting that. I mean, for one thing, he’s a Blackthorn and it’s Blackthorn Hall. But we grew up in Los Angeles. I’m an LA girl, all my memories of my parents are of them in Los Angeles. But then we both do have many hard memories from the LA Institute, and it would be nice to put them behind us and get a fresh start. I don’t know. Do you ever find it strange, that you live in New York now? And Faerie? Do you miss the D.F.?

Maybe it’s Idris being out of reach that makes it feel so strange. I grew up always knowing that however spread out the Shadowhunters might be we all had a home together in Idris. It held the Clave together all over the world. But what if Idris is really gone for us, Cristina?

hi ! i really like your analysis ! thanks for great analysis on tsukasa and WxS. tbh, i'm really exited about how WxS World Link Event could be ?! like, it will effect the SEKAI somehow. i would like to hear if you have any opinion on WxS World link ! it's always fun to read your opinion and analysis.

One thing I have been curious about Wonderland SEKAI and the plot for WxS is how much WxS is all about the future (goals, dreams) and yet their (or Tsukasa's SEKAI) is about the feelings that he have held since he was young, which is "wanting to make others smile". But now that Tsukasa is striving higher (world-level star) and it's not only a dream but something he could realistically aim for, where in the SEKAI is his ambition reflected in?? I mean, in one of the area convos Nene and Rui said that Wonderland SEKAI is so big they thought there are areas they haven't known yet. So, maybe rather than a new location appearing, the VS just decided to show them said area because now they're working towards the same goal as an independent troupe and not just a bunch of friends working together, and they also think that it'll help Tsukasa in the long run if he knows about it too...?

Soooo I think World Link Event will open up an area that will reflect his ambition one way or another. My evidence for that is:

The above about how Wonderland SEKAI reflects Tsukasa's wish to make everyone happy but not his current goal which is to become world-class star--something that has been his main plot point ever since Pop in My Heart. Also, we need to clear it up that WxS is created from Tsukasa's feelings alone because unlike how intertwined Mafuyu's plotline with Empty SEKAI is, people who didn't read WxS main story thought that Wonderland SEKAI is WxS' collective SEKAI or even Emu's because of how whimsical it is and how it doesn't reflect the current Tsukasa.

The many contents for WxS!MEIKO recently (cards and com songs). I have a running theory that she represents(?) Tsukasa's ambition and boldness because most her appearance are always in events about the future (she first appeared in the Christmas event where WxS got their first 'rival'; Island Panic, Pop in My Heart, Phoenix Sky, and Our Happy Ending events are also related to the future of WxS).

There's a JP twt post about how the new stamps for 25 are related to their World Link Event story (Mafuyu thinking about how she wanted to be with everyone still, Mizuki about how they also needed to think about what they'd do after running away, Ena decided to face her struggles head on now that she knew she could help, and I haven't read Kanade's yet but probably about how she wishes for Mafuyu to be happy), so I believe all groups' (including WxS) are also related to their world link story as well

With that in mind, I want to guess that the chapters will go Tsukasa -> Emu -> Nene -> Rui. Maybe it'd be obvious that the feelings that create whatever-the-new-location-is is not from the feeling of wanting to make everyone smile. So when confronted with such a location in SEKAI, Tsukasa is confused about what it means for him (and finally accepts that it's his feelings ALONE that created Wonderland SEKAI) because he doesn't understand why whatever-it-will-be is in his SEKAI in the first place. And then Emu comes to the rescue, telling Tsukasa not to think about his own feelings alone and that they'll figure it out together as WxS. They talk and then come to the conclusion that the new location is a reflection of Tsukasa's ambition to aim for a world-level stage. So Nene renews her resolve again, because she thinks of Tsukasa as a fellow rival and she doesn't want to lose to him in terms of feelings. And lastly, Rui promises Tsukasa that he will draws out Tsukasa's potential as the best director Tsukasa can ask for, now that he knows how big Tsukasa's ambition is.

So... I guess the short version of the what I think WxS World Link event would be is: Tsukasa reflects on his present feelings, Emu and Rui resolve to support Tsukasa (and Nene), and Nene resolves not to lose against Tsukasa.

First of all, I didn't know you could understand Spanish 😭 (although, even if you didn't understand it completely, some words you sure would)

Second, good night and what a good chapter you gave us AidaIro, my goodness, I was smiling all day at work. I hope the next one is more impressive than this one and keeps its pace.

I have so many thoughts about, and almost all of them are a mess. (Tsukasa and Amane/Hanako are idiots and I love them but my god I will never get tired of their relationship and their bond and their feelings and what they mean and the whole mess that they both are; with one hand on my heart, but of all jshk plots, the yugi twins will always be the most interesting to me)

But there is one about Nene, and that is, we know that she will die when the yorishiros are completely broken. But, we don't know how and why exactly. Removing her status as Kannagi, very important of course, what happens after the yorishiros stop protecting both shores and why Yashiro dies.

Although it was, for me, "maybe Nene is related to the Akane" then it was but Kannagi's condition is not a title (like the Minamoto and their spiritual power) that comes from special blood.

The Kannagi Akane were not chosen by the god of the well, but by the townspeople. The Akane were chosen from birth because they were Akane, the family that had to give a daughter every so often as an offering.

So basically I say that

Nene will not die when the yorishiros are broken (as she imagines), but as a result of.

Nene is condemned to die not because she met Hanako, but because from the moment she was born the title of Kannagi was imposed on her.

Ah, destiny and its funny ways of intertwining everything.

Like, in the manga they do mention it but they don't give it any depth. We see Nene accepting her death, and perhaps that is why AidaIro does not give her more room in the manga: if Nene does not pay attention to her death it is because she does not want to think about it.

TSUNENE DECEMBER HCS!

Since they both love Christmas and love romance they probably do a lot of couple-y things together.

Christmas movie marathons.

Nene would probably forces Tsu to watch Christmas romance Kdramas.

They drink hot chocolate and bake cookies as well.

Human Tsukasa isn’t so bad at baking. ( Alive au )

Nene and Tsukasa know how to crotchet, Tsukasa is more mediocre at it than Nene is, so Nene teaches him how to make cool patterns.

They end up making a bunch of sweaters, hats, scarfs, hand warmers, leg warmers, ect for their friends and them.

They sign up for Christmas caroling because they both have amazing singing voices ( They force their friends to join ). ( Alive au )

All of them dress up as elves, raindeers and Santas as their caroling. ( Alive au )

People in the neighborhoods loved their singing and gave them money and candy. ( Alive au )

Tsukasa takes Nene to the Far Shore and goes on a shopping spree in the stores.

They couldn’t keep all of the things because it was too much, so they gave the rest to their friends.

They shop lifted some things. But they didn’t get caught.

Nene complains about how she’s still going to be single and lonely for Christmas and Tsukasa cheers her up by trying to find her a Christmas mate.

Bad news: They didn’t succeed.

Good news: Nene and Tsukasa just acted like a couple instead!

Tsukasa gives her a bunch of presents, most of them relating to jewelry and marine things. But stuff like makeup Nene wanted and art supplies too.

Nene feels really really really bad because she only gave him a matching friendship bracelet, with a magical twist because she got it from a store in the Far Shore.

The twist is ‘soul bonding’. Like a soulmate bracelet.

Tsukasa loves it anyways. He says it’s the best thing he’s gotten for Christmas in years.

Makes gingerbread houses with the whole squad.

Gingerbread contest ensues.

mafuyu: my favorite in the whole game. its odd considering that i used to absolutely hate her. i hated her for the same reason that most ppl hate her. i thought that everyone was overreacting to her problems but then i realized i was projecting my own insecurities onto that so i started to love her. ill pull her mothers hair out in clumps

kanade: my second favorite in the whole games. i just relate to mafuyu more. her hair is nice. we both hate going outside ♡︎ idk how shes paying the bills but either way i feel bad for her she lost so many ppl she loves & shes trying to protect someone she loves & i want a friend like her but i dont think itd be healthy but do i care? not really. i love kanade i wanna give her a comfy blanket to sleep with.

Hello!!! ^_^!! I'm same anon that submitted the "romantic mitsunene and tsumitsu exist unironically?" confession, I generally just want another place to ramble on that isn't Twitter as I always do so I'm glad I found here!! heheh!!

As Hanako's my personal favorite character, I really like the idea of him being more than what meets the eye and being more like Tsukasa than people tend to talk about :D!!

The story's inside of Nene's POV, and as much as she's one of my other favorites, she's not a exactly good source of information when it comes to the fact that Hanako always showing his good side around her/is always keeping secrets! He was fully open with his plan, when inside of the picture perfect arc, Kou's POV was shown so I was thinking... what if he has a whole entire other side that he's shown very briefly a few times? (off topic but i love 'villain' hanako as much as goofy hanako!!!)

Which is why I always have a open mind whenever talking about him in specifically, mostly because there's about so many things that we don't know about him which makes his choices very unpredictable (just like Tsukasa!!!) and sort of strange? Hence why they're both very special to me!!!

Also, just because I much prefer Hanako being deranged as much as he would act normally, that doesn't dismiss his actions one bit! You could like a character and relate to them a whole bunch, but that doesn't mean you have to agree with their actions. I feel like people tend to flip-flop between those a lot? I dunno!!

authenticity check

I really like how this scene conveys something.... in volume 15, we have a little break down about authenticity, via Nene and Kou both talking to Mitsuba’s mother. Kou’s been having a longterm crisis about Mitsuba’s relative identity...

Nene, meanwhile, has no experiences or memories with the ‘original’ Mitsuba. ‘Mitsuba’ to her is...................... Mitsuba. He is who he is. Nene has heard some talk of the ‘original’, from Kou, but not really enough to grock the entire situation that troubles Kou, and he isn’t capable of conveying it effectively-- it’s just too abstract. Nene was primarily passed out for the Hell of Mirrors, so much of the explanation Tsukasa provided directly is lost on her. And Hanako’s additional distinctions, are not something she’s heard, in either the original Mitsuba circumstance, nor Hell of Mirrors. She has not listened to Hanako’s dogma regarding kaii’s lost personhood.

Kou and Nene have their own views of ‘Mitsuba’ ..... who is right, in this scene? What are the implications, if Kou, or Nene are right? Let’s think about it!

Kou and Nene each have an idea of ‘Mitsuba’. They talk to Mitsuba’s mom, who has her own idea of ‘Mitsuba’-- the living Mitsuba. 

Despite having more experiences, at this point, with the ‘new’ Mitsuba made by Tsukasa, Kou doesn’t allow himself to share stories about that Mitsuba, here. He only talks about the brief moment he had with the original ghost Mitsuba--

in this moment, Kou doesn’t feel he can rightfully tout a bunch of stories starring ‘new’ Mitsuba. What if those stories are weird, or off, to Mitsuba’s mother? What if it’s clear it’s not the same person? He’s confused, but this is Mitsuba’s mother. He can’t personally say that all his recent experiences ‘count’, and speaking to Mitsuba’s mother.... he doesn’t want to lie to her, or to himself.

Except, he sort of is (lying). He’s not talking about any living Mitsuba. They’re giving Mitsuba’s mother an impression of having been friends with her son while alive, so everything is under a pretense. 

Here, you can also see Kou have to submit to having to confront having extremely limited experience to owe to the original mitsuba. “That’s really about it.” He can’t say much.

of course mom immediately validates this memory-- he may as well be talking about the living Mitsuba.

Kou’s story is corroborated by the closest person to Mitsuba! His experience feels ‘real’.

Nene, however, only has experiences with the ‘new’ Mitsuba, who she met in Hell of Mirrors, and spent time with in Picture Perfect. So, she talks about that impression of ‘Mitsuba’. Unlike Kou... Nene has no reason to avoid this Mitsuba’s mention! She’s not censoring herself! She sees Mitsuba as Mitsuba.

this story is validated immediately, too! Of course, it’s just what the living Mitsuba was like, and she relates her own experiences with her son to Nene’s story.

It’s an interesting gap, and one that Kou and Nene don’t directly communicate about. Kou isn’t about to tell Nene to not share stories she has with the ‘new’ Mitsuba..... though he can’t bring himself to consider them, himself. It’s too tangled.

..... But what is right? 

Kou is quick to propose Tsukasa as a false entity, a replacement or usurper to his original self.

Mom is, too.

Is she right?

Was Amane right, or wrong, to stand by Tsukasa’s authenticity? What is ‘Tsukasa’? A child who died? A child who became something else? Long gone? Still here? A God?

Amane knew Tsukasa the best, the most intimately. Who gets to make the call, if kaii themselves can’t? Those who loved them the most? The freakin’ Minamoto clan? God?

What will Kou feel, when he finally meets Tsukasa, again? What if Tsukasa remembers meeting him, and can describe that day, in the Red House? Ok, then--in that case-- is it only retained memories that make someone their authentic self? Consistency of existence? That seems to have some worrying implications for normal living people with memory loss or anything else disrupting their cognitive function, so let’s throw that out entirely. I mean-- is it only his lack of memories that ruins our new Mitsuba, whos duplicate personality isn’t enough? Or is it some loss of his body, soul? Does the fragment of soul Mitsuba have-- his ‘mind’--... not ‘count’? How small of a fragment before one declares ‘no, that’s not them anymore’? Do we start getting out a calculator and grocking percentages? Do we make a pie-chart out of everything composing individuals? 

But....... to have my very own little stance here.... wouldn’t you..... love your beloved, even if only 10% of their original self remained? Wouldn’t you cling to that 10%, wouldn’t that be everything to you? If that was all that you had, wouldn’t you cherish the precious remaining spark of their soul? Why on Earth would you reject it? What benefit is that to you, or to them? Is it honoring their life, to do that; to refuse to accept its degradation as comparable to the living self? Is that the most beautiful thing to do-- to refuse to accept alterations as your beloved? To see these things as usurpers, or monsters, standing unrightfully where they stood, overwriting the original? That doesn’t sound fair... to me, that sounds cruel.

Hanako doesn’t like to relate to his past self. It’s indirectly expressed in Picture Perfect; I’m aware this scene isn’t literal, but it’s multilayered. It’s his psyche coming out through this narrative construct he’s designed.

Hanako generally seems to see kaii as something contorted away from their original selves, by nature of becoming kaii-- they are othered.

something Hanako is fighting tooth and nail to avoid seeing happen to Nene.

Tsukasa, and Tsuchigomori, the two people who knew him from his living life, don’t see Hanako as any different from the living Amane. He’s just the same, to them. 

Is it wrong for Tsukasa to see him as Amane, for Tsuchigomori to see him as unchanged? 

Hanako certainly thinks it’s wrong to pick up where one left off in their life, while Tsukasa wants to do just that.

Hanako and Mitsuba 2.0 are at this point, kaii, not only ghosts of their former selves, but entities mingled with or tinged with other things by design. Tsukasa is, too.

Do we need to consider the living identities of any of these people? If they aren’t themselves anymore-- then why contemplate any of it? Do we discard the pasts of those humans, as not theirs to own? Is it a sort of crime against the memory of Tsukasa, to call this Tsukasa?

To call this Amane?

To call this Mitsuba?

The loved ones of all of these people, though, look at the individual, or hear stories of them, and say, “ah, that’s them....”

Akane recognizes Aoi as herself, despite how severely the potion alters her.

For the person who knows Aoi’s heart, this is still recognizable as Aoi.

Yako recognizes herself, distorted by a rumor.

I think ultimately, this isn’t a situation one can pick and choose. It can’t be that Tsukasa is a dirty fake, but Mitsuba is real, it can’t be that Hanako is Amane, but Nene would become something unbefitting of her name if she were altered.

We either completely dehumanize all kaii as inadequate distortions tainted by alteration innately, or we embrace humanity in anything and everything....

..... I’ve said it before as well, but, we know rumors and beliefs alter kaii. If something is perpetuated enough as a belief, it becomes true.

... then wouldn’t Amane be right? Wouldn’t that be the very belief system he had towards Tsukasa? again.....

If Mitsuba was believed as authentic, couldn’t he become ‘the real Mitsuba’? 

Is it useful at all to distinguish him as fake? To distinguish anyone as fake?

MmmMmmmmuch to think about.

Amane meets Nene at the Tanabata festival, she’s older than him, but he falls for her instantly, fast forward, Amane is now in middle school, he’s a troublemaker, & gets constantly into fights, but he swears the new school nurse looks familiar... he then realizes it’s her and thinks it must be fate!!!... This one hits close to home bc I’ve been in this situation irl, so I can confirm all of Nene’s struggles are real (and ofc how a love with an age gap should be handled the correct way, this fic really teaches you many life lessons hahaha)

Let's just say that Nene had envisioned her first week at university a bit differently. She had also expected to be run over by princely figures. At her first party as a university student, she doesn't find a prince, but a wolf instead.

University AU

In the first week of her first semester at university Nene Yashiro put up with a lot. She moved into the dorm that she shared with her best friend, Aoi Akane. She also endured the many love confessions said best friend would receive every day. And she suffered through the disappointment of not having found a boyfriend yet. It has always been her dream to find a prince-like boyfriend who would adore her and care for her - not that it was that realistic, she's been told. Apparently a girlfriend with swollen ankles - it's what she told people nowadays, her ankles have always been fat - wasn't exactly on everyone's bucket list. Nene liked to think it didn't bother her so much anymore and that her self-worth should come from her achievements, but she still ended up looking at herself in the mirror and wondering whether white knee-high socks made her ankles look fatter than black socks. She was pondering exactly that when Aoi knocked on her door and entered without waiting for Nene to ask her to. "Nene-chan! Did you hear, there- are you looking at your ankles again?" Aoi stopped dead in her tracks on her way over to her self-conscious friend. Nene turned around and sheepishly scratched the back of her head. "Yeah... I guess I am. I just can't help it, Aoi-chan. I wish I had slender legs like you", she sighed. Of course Nene was envious of her friend's nice legs. Aoi had been the most popular girl at school and it didn't look like that status would change at university, either. "Oh, Nene-chan... You have plenty of other really good features about you." Aoi walked over to her friend in front of the mirror. She stood behind her and lifted Nene's hair. Then she let it fall and it glided through her fingers in a grey and teal wave. She also gently lifted Nene's arms to show her what slender arms she had. "Look at you, Nene-chan. You have gorgeous hair, a great figure, and an adorable face. Why would you dwell on an insult from a pubescent boy who's been looking at too many porn magazines?" Nene giggled and turned to Aoi. With her gentle hands she went to hug her friend. "Yeah... yeah, you're right. Thanks, Aoi-chan" Both looked at each other and Nene wanted to say something sentimental but Aoi was a second faster. "Right! I almost forgot why I even came here!", she yelled and pulled at her purple locks, "There's a party tonight! It's gonna be full of other students. Maybe even prince-like boys?" Nene looked at her as if she had just hit her with a pan. "Aoi, no. This week was crazy and now you want me to attend a party? People will laugh about my ankles!", she cried and sat on her nicely made bed. Aoi sighed, moved a bunch of plush figures aside and sat next to her hopeless friend. "Okay, look. Akane and Lemon really wanna go, and I kinda wanna go too. I don't think I'd be okay if he and Yamabuki decided to get together for real this time", she muttered and looked at her nails. "Eh? Aoi-chan, could it be? Are you jealous?", Nene giggled with a knowing expression on her face. In an instant, Aoi's face became a dark red colour which struck Nene as a) proof of her feelings for Akane, and b) unhealthy. "I can't marry him! I can't be Aoi Aoi, that's stupid!", Aoi burst out, slamming one of Nene's beloved plush figures on the bed. She looked darkly at Nene who had started giggling before she began laughing at her friend. "I think", Nene gasped for air, "You should take it slow and see how it goes." "Ugh, whatever! Come on, let's get all dolled up for tonight!"

Hours went by. Everyone who passed the girls' room heard the happiest giggling they'd ever hear in a student dorm. The girls spent their evening painting each other's nails and fixing their hair. In the end, both of them looked way too good for a freshman party. When Akane and Lemon knocked on their door, they started yelling in panic before Nene jumped on her feet and ripped open the door. Both boys looked at her, looked at each other, shrugged, and greeted her. "Hi Nene! You look nice!", Lemon said and lifted his hand. Nene blushed a bit and beamed at them while she thanked Lemon and let them in. "Ah, Aoi! Please go out with me!" When she turned she saw Akane kneeling in front of a blushing Aoi who sprayed some hairspray on her hair. She was dressed in a black ruffled skirt and a pink blouse that complimented the blush on her face perfectly. She sharply inhaled the hairspray when she noticed Akane to her feet and promptly started coughing. "Yeah, how about we just go?", Lemon said and facepalmed.

When the group arrived at the party, Nene was massively done with her life. Akane was even worse than usual. Because there would be many rivals, as he put it, he'd have to keep an especially close eye on Aoi. Lemon just tagged along wherever Akane went who went wherever Aoi went. Nene sighed, this would be a very long evening if she couldn't find anyone to talk to. Aoi seemed to be very preoccupied and she wanted to give her the chance to maybe give Akane a chance. After all, she had been rooting for him and his undying love for her. She thought it was very romantic and charming, and wished someone would love her like that, too. Deep in her thoughts she stumbled along to the definitely spiked punch. She took one of the prefilled glasses and turned to make space for the next person. The next person happened to stand exactly where Nene was going and she walked right into his chest. Startled she backed away and almost walked into yet another person. The boy in front of her grabbed her hand and pulled her a step closer so she wouldn't actually hit another. "Ah, I'm so sorry!", she said quickly, not daring to look at the boy, "And also, thank you!" She wanted to quickly flee and drink more than just that one glass to forget her embarrassing first party at university. Nene had only taken a step when the mysterious stranger stood in her way again. "Can I have your name before you go?", she heard him say with a melodious voice. Finally she dared to look up. The boy in front of her was a bit taller than she was in her heels. His black hair was tousled and looked a bit like a bed head. "Eh?", she only said and blankly stared at him. This guy was so not her type. "Ah, sorry! I'm Amane Yugi", he quickly added and grinned at her. Oh well, Nene thought. She wanted company, anyone would do, right? "I'm Nene Yashiro", she smiled back at him. He gestured for them to make space for others and led her to the wall where many people were standing and talking. "Are you a freshman, too?", Nene tried to feed the conversation. Small talk has never been a strength of hers. The boy looked blankly at her before breaking out yet another grin. She had a feeling she'd see many of his grins this evening. Somehow she really didn't mind, he seemed to be quite upbeat, at least. Nothing could be worse than a killjoy at her first party at university. "Yeah, actually I am. My major is aerospace engineering", Amane said happily while pointing to the NASA print on his shirt. He looked really proud of himself for making that connection. Nene couldn't help but smile. "I'm a literature major", she offered, a bit offended that he didn't ask her himself. Oh well, he probably forgot? He seemed like the type of guy to forget manners. "Did you come here with friends?", she asked. The grin on his face faded. "Um, I came with my twin brother, but he left me, like, 3 hours ago. I was scared I'd have to spend the evening alone so I'm super glad I found you!", he answered. The smile crept back on his face as he looked at her. He was intrigued by her. Her hair glistened in the weirdly coloured light and her red eyes dared him to try and come closer. He was pretty sure she wasn't as docile as she tried to appear. Her skirt was short and tight and her heels were the tiniest bit too high for him to think of her as docile and quiet. "Aw", she sighed, " I can relate! I came with my friends from school but since my best friend is a men magnet I kind of lost them. I thought I could go and drown my sorrow in alcohol but luckily I bumped into you!" Nene took a sip to give her words a truth factor but the punch was more like straight vodka with a bit of punch flavour and she made a face. Amane looked at his drink, took a sip, and shrugged. "Here", he offered and exchanged her glass with his, "I think you got a prefilled one there. I saw them mess up the alcohol ratio. Mine isn't as strong. If you don't mind indirect kisses." He grinned at her and she felt like she was looking at a wolf in sheep's clothing. Oh, how smooth, how actually nice of him. Blushing, she took a sip from Amane's glass and looked at him. Sheepishly he looked away with a hand in his neck. She wasn't sure whether he was blushing really hard as well or if it was this coloured light tinting the whole room in a soft red. He turned back to her and leaned onto the wall. She actually took his bait. Wow. She definitely wasn't as much of a good girl as she tried to look like. Her eyes sparkled, a bit unsure maybe, but defiant and strong. He couldn't help his heart skip a beat when he looked into her eyes. "How nice of you, Yugi-kun", she cooed with a sly grin on her face. Well, maybe he wasn't her type, but who cares, right? She couldn't deny the attraction she felt towards him. Nene had only known him for a few minutes but she was sure she'd be thinking about him all night and possibly all of the nights she had left. She took a look at him again. He was leaning on the wall and she admired his broad shoulders. When he caught her staring he winked at her, a flash of gold and sunset in her mind. Nene gasped and leaned closer to him. "You have really pretty eyes!", she blurted out and grabbed his arm to tug his head lower so she could take a closer look. Amane blushed the deepest red that definitely wasn't caused by the reddish lighting. "My, Nene-chan, have you already found your prince?" Aoi was standing in front of them, holding onto Akane's arm. Lemon was nowhere to be seen. Embarrassed, Nene backed away from Amane and let him go. "Aoi-chan! What a coincidence to see you here!", she laughed hysterically and waved with her free arm. Aoi's sly face was scaring her a bit. "Ah, right, may I introduce you to A-Amane Yugi?", she half yelled and pointed at him, "His major is aerospace engineering! Isn't that cool? Aoi-chan?" Nene's rambling ended and she looked between all of them frantically. Oh, how embarrassing. Couldn't they have butted in when they were talking normally? No, of course not, it was just Nene's luck. Next to her Amane stirred and waved to greet her friends. "Hey everyone. I guess you're her friends?", he said, smiling a very docile smile. Oh, she thought, he is quite the actor. No one would see him for the wolf he is. "Yeah, I'm Aoi, this is Akane", Aoi said, slowly turning away from the beet red Nene, who would've loved to hide her face. Akane nodded at Amane who returned the gesture. "We actually went to fetch Nene so we could play some truth or dare. Care to tag along?" Nene didn't miss the mischievous sparkle in her friend's eyes. Please, she thought, say no, Amane. Don't get caught up in her games. But Amane shrugged. "Sure, if you don't mind me?" Oh my god, Nene yelled inside. Amane didn't notice her inner turmoil and grinned at her. Yeah, Nene thought, what else would he do but grin at her?

They were all sitting in a circle on the floor, avoiding the little puddles of spilled punch. Aoi had made sure that Amane sat across from Nene. Amane tried looking at Nene to encourage her but eye contact seemed to fluster her even more, so he gave up. Nene was using up as little space as she could and clutched her drink between both hands. Aoi sat right next to her, a mean sparkle in her eyes. Of course Aoi loved Nene like a sister but she couldn't resist teasing her when it came to boys. "Alright, next!", someone yelled and spun the bottle. Because Nene has never had any luck, the bottle stopped pointing at her. Aoi let out a delighted squeal. "Truth or dare?", she cooed and looked intently at Nene. "Tru-", Nene started, hoping to avoid the worst, but was rudely interrupted by Aoi. "Dare? Okay. I dare you to...", she began, scanning the circle of playing students until her eyes landed on Amane. A sinsiter smile spread on her lovely face which sent shivers down Nene's spine. "I dare you", Aoi repeated all high and mighty, "to spend seven minutes in the closet with Yugi-kun!" In one gulp, Nene downed her drink and slammed the glass on the floor. She couldn't look at Amane, who received encouraging pats on his back accompanied by jealous looks. He had a sheepish and shy expression and did his best to keep it that way. Amane tried to look as relaxed as he could as he got up and opened the door to the tiniest (and fullest!) closet he has ever seen. Just his luck, getting to be super close to the cute girl he had just met. He was high-fiving himself mentally. Nene was horrified and also got up, trudging in his direction. Aoi dared to give her a slap on the butt and make a kissy face. Nene's look could have killed an army instantly and Aoi sat back down cautiously. She made the mistake of looking at Amane who was holding open the door for her to enter first. His eyes had taken on the colour of molten gold and she didn't miss how strongly he gripped the door. Ah well, she thought, that means I'm not the only one who's nervous. But in fact, Amane wasn't only nervous, but exhilarated as well. The door closed after them and Nene fumbled to find the light switch. Her fingers found  a shoulder, a neck, and a head before they finally grasped the cord switch. The instant she could see him, she pulled at the cord to make it dark again. They were standing chest to chest, encircled by beverage crates. If she looked straight ahead she was met with the upper half of the NASA print on Amane's shirt just a few inches away from her face. Amane chuckled and she could almost feel his chest rise against hers. "What was that?", he asked, still gently laughing. His fingers slid up her arm, found her hand, and tugged at it to turn on the light again. Nene was looking away, blushing furiously. In this light he could actually see the blush for what it was. It was a bit like waking up for him, to be able to see her in real colours and not tinted in red light. Nene murmured something, too quiet for him to hear. "What did you say?", he asked and leaned closer without thinking. Nene turned to repeat herself but stopped when their noses almost met. Abruptly Amane straightened and looked away. Okay, alright, he thought, he sure got into quite the dangerous situation here. Nene cleared her throat. "I'm sorry", she repeated as composed as she could, "It's my fault. Aoi goes crazy when it's about a boy and me. Sorry to ruin your night like this, Yugi-kun." Amane turned back to her. "Amane." "Huh?" "Please call me Amane, okay?", he said, and added after a second: "I mean, I've never been so close to a girl before so it would be stupid if she called me by my last name, don't you think?" Nene nodded. "Then call me Nene, okay?", she beamed up at him and he returned the smile. "Oi!", someone - definitely Aoi, Nene thought - banged their fist on the door and yelled: "I don't hear anything but talking! I'm gonna reset the clock to seven minutes again!" "Oh my god", Nene sighed and hid her face in her hands, "I'm so sorry!" Amane started laughing softly, set his arm on a crate next to him and rested his head on his hand. "I have a feeling it's not gonna get boring with you. I like that." Nene looked at him. Her bashful expression made him melt a bit. She fiddled with the hem of her shirt. "We don't have to, you know, do anything", he told her with a small smile on his face. "Yeah, I guess... I mean we already indirectly kissed so what's the deal, right", she rambled hysterically. "Oh, if that's the case", he said with a blank expression and leaned closer to her again. "On second thought!", she burst out and he started laughing. "It was a joke", he reassured her, but didn't miss the second of disappointment on her face. His expression grew soft and Nene couldn't help but stare at the everchanging colour of his eyes. "You're totally my type", he confessed and grinned at her sheepish expression. "Well, you", Nene started and took a deep breath, "You are kinda my type too..." Amane had meant to tease Nene, but somehow he played himself. He was torn inside. On one hand, he really wanted to kiss her, but on the other hand, he didn't so she wouldn't think of him as a player or someone shallow. "By the way", he tried changing the topic, "I thought it was hilarious how you downed that drink back there. I'll get you a new one later, okay? I somehow feel responsible." Nene giggled. Oh right, she had done that earlier. "Oh well, I couldn't help it", she said, slightly bouncing on her feet. She was swinging around, coming closer to Amane and then moving away again. It was driving him insane. How yould she move so much in a space as small as this godforsaken closet? She bounced especially lively against a tower of crates that started wobbling dangerously. Amane slapped a hand on the crates to keep them from falling on both of them, leaning over Nene to secure the crates again. She sunk down and made herself as small as she could, but Amane had to strain and push himself up with one hand next to her head. When he was done he settled back on his feet and noticed how red Nene's face was. "Sorry", he whispered. She looked up at him and shook her head. "Thank you! I don't think a bruise would've made my first week of university that much better", she grinned up at him. He returned her smile. "Yeah, I guess that's true", he said, and added: "Do you maybe wanna get some coffee together?" A date? This would be her first date ever. She shyly nodded. "Awesome" When she looked at him, he had that wolfish expression again. "I'd really like to kiss you", he suddenly said, surprising himself. He told himself it was definitely the alcohol he had taken from Nene earlier. She blushed a deep red and couldn't quite believe her ears. This guy, who was kinda her type, whom she had known about an hour now, was flirting with her. His face was dusted pink, just like her's, when they heard Aoi yell: "You've got a minute left!" Nene flinched and, before her brain could take back the command, threw her arms around Amane's neck. "It's gonna be my first kiss, though", Nene confessed and tugged him a bit closer. Amane's heart did a somersault and he leaned down, carefully setting his hands around her waist. "That's okay", he whispered, his face barely an inch from her's, "You're my first kiss, too." And with that their lips met for a sweet and gentle kiss. Amane didn't know what to do with his hands so he linked them at the small of her back. His brain didn't really work and he was sure it wasn't just the alcohol. He was also sure that somehow he must've been the luckiest guy on earth, getting to spend fourteen minutes in the tiniest closet with the cutest girl ever. And apparently, she liked him, too. She definitely wasn't your typical good girl, he was sure of it now. Nene felt his terribly soft hair under her fingers and couldn't resist playing with it a bit. She could feel him relax into her touch and she felt him tug her closer, making them stand with their chests touching. It was like a dream for her. Maybe this wasn't the prince-like boyfriend she had waited for. Maybe she wasn't Cinderella, waiting for a prince. Maybe she was Red Riding Hood, falling in love with the wolf. They parted and Amane rested his forehead on hers. They looked at each other, both clearly embarrassed but smiling nontheless. "I think I just fell in love", Amane confessed and chuckled. "Wait 'till you get to know her for real before you go telling her that", they heard someone speak. Nene and Amane burst apart with a start, nearly knocking down a bunch of crates. She was hiding her face in her hands to avoid seeing Aoi and the others. Lemon, who apparently was the one who had opened the door, grinned at them. Aoi was making joyful leaps, hugging Akane in delight. Amane took a look at the people outside, then at Nene, who was looking at him through her fingers. Then he grinned at Lemon and the others, grabbed the handle of the door and pulled it shut again. Hysteric squealing and cheering could be heard from outside, but Amane stroked Nene's hair away from her face. She was still blushing like crazy but couldn't help the big smile that was creeping onto her face. "I'd rather stay in here with you", he confessed, grinning that wolf in sheep's clothing grin she had come to love. "Yeah, me too", she smiled sweetly and pulled him down for another kiss.

Digimon Xros Wars Ep35 Liveblog

The team has gone to Honey Land, where bee Digimon are absorbing the negative energy of other Digimon and turning it into evil honey. Also, Nene meets a Digimon called Mervamon, who also happens to have a misguided younger brother.

ok. there’s a bunch of bees and a kid who looks like a human in weird clothes. are the eyes in his hat his actual eyes?

oh yeah that’s right, this land’s boss is very tiny. like a bee. which is why he controls a bunch of bees.

they’re really going to make me look at Mervamon for the rest of the series, huh. aside from every other issue with her design, she’s just a human in weird clothes, she doesn’t even have any uncanny facial features or anything like Lilamon has

ah, Lilamon noticed that Akari and Zenjirou aren’t around anymore...

they’re. they’re turning negative energy into honey???

well the eyes on his head are doing all the emoting so I guess those must be Ignitemon’s real eyes

so that’s what happened to Stingmon. him and the other Digimon keep getting drained by the bees and can’t fight.

I do like Mervamon’s personality, though. it’s no wonder that Nene winds up relating/looking up to her, since her no-nonsense, straight-into-the-fray personality is kinda how Nene was trying to be when she was working for DarkKnightmon.

Taiki is really going to follow her?? even though the extent of her plan is just to walk up to the front door and attack??? this might be an instance where not being able to turn his back on them backfires on him...

ok I was wondering why I didn’t have any especially bad memories of Mervamon (though to be fair I barely have any memories of her) and it’s because her personality is actually really, really fantastic. her overconfidence is endearing. i just wish she looked a little better...

this is such a horrible plan. i love it.

and now for some of Xros Wars’ patent-pending brother-related drama

this is probably going to directly parallel the conflict between Nene working with Xros Heart and Yuu working for the Bagra Army later on, isn’t it?

hey wait a minute. Ignitemon sounds like Hackmon???

ok yep they share a voice actor, Daisuke Sakaguchi (who apparently also voiced Watson in Appmon). so there’s at least two people who voiced Digimon in Xros Wars who went on to voice buddy Appmon. they also happen to be in the same episode.

anyways the evil guy is still sitting in his beehive so they’re going to beat him up next time.

I have always love reading your threads and always had this comment in my mind for a while, and i'm curious on what you think!

I once saw someone pointed how Rin in one of the events (I forgot what it was called but it was the one with leo/need going to PW) was telling Nene to smile a lot, and that at some point it felt more like 'forcing' than advice. And although it was kind of surprising at first, re-watching the event kind of made me re-think a bunch of stuff, but at the same time I got even more confused 😅

And so when I was reading one of your threads. You mentioned how complex Wonderland SEKAI is. And I agree! But even though it's kind of obvious why his Sekai is considered complex. I'm kind of curious on hearing your thoughts, and what you may think of my comment above!

(After all, Tsukasa's SEKAI has A LOT going on. especially with the singing flowers, it's expansion, the plushies, and the whole VS thing( not to mention the fact that wonderland SEKAI was the first SEKAI to officially have all the featured VS in the SEKAI.))

So, regarding the Rin & Nene stuff, I checked again and it's the Twilight Parade event. I checked the event story and Rin's card story, and I can conclude that Rin wasn't being forceful when she told Nene to smile or step out of her comfort zone.

In Chapter 3 (the one with the Rin's card illustration), Rin told Nene to smile more as she sang so others could smile too. Based on Rin's comment about how the song could sparkle more, we can assume that it's a bright, cheerful song. So Rin's comment about how Nene should look happier when she sang isn't wrong. Nene herself also agreed with Rin, so there's no problem with Rin's advice.

And then in the same chapter, Rin noticed how tense Nene's face was when the rest of WxS decided to accompany Leo/Need. Nene admitted to feeling nervous about meeting people for the first time, so Rin decided to cheer for her so Nene could enjoy herself and smile.

Before I continue, I have to say that Nene is troublesome in a way that she wants to make more friends but too shy and lacks the confidence to do it. In the first part of Rin's Twilight Parade card stories, she noticed it with Len's help. At first, she thought Nene avoiding her gaze was some kind of game, but after Len told her that Nene was shy, Rin accommodate her shyness. The first part ended with Nene asking Rin to accompany her in her solo practice, so Rin knew that Nene welcomed her offer of friendship.

Going back to chapter 3, Nene implied that she wanted to be friends with Leo/Need but was too shy to approach them, so Rin decided that she would support Nene to step out of her comfort zone, because Rin knew that Nene wanted to have friends. In the next chapters, Rin didn't even tell Nene to smile, just basic supporting lines like "do your best", or "you can do it!", but well, if Nene wanted to look more approachable it's a given that she had to smile.

And the most important thing about Rin's (and also the rest of Wonderland Sekai's VS') stance on smiling is blatantly and explicitly stated in Smile of Dreamer event story. Both Len and Rin told Emu directly that she didn't have to smile when she's sad, and that everyone would help her. Rin also added that when everyone in Sekai didn't hide their troubled look when they're worried. And that stance was a reflection of how Tsukasa doesn't want anyone to cover up their worries with smiles (the hypocrite that he is).

So, in conclusion, Rin NEVER forced Nene to smile. One instance Rin told Nene to smile was related to how Nene should sing a song, and Rin didn't even tell Nene to smile when she cheered for Nene to make friends. Rin knew Nene wanted to have friends, so she supported Nene stepping out of her comfort zone but not pushing her boundaries. This stance of not forcing a smile is reflected again in Smile of Dreamer.

One thing to note about Tsukasa is while he'd rather hide his worries, he never wanted others to do the same. While SEKAI is a reflection of the creators' true feelings, it's also a place where the VS offer help and advice for the creators and their guests(?). So, I guess it could be that the VS wanted to say the same thing to Tsukasa but he's too thickheaded and insensitive to realize that lol (and his wall is probably still too high of a hurdle).

Also, regarding the complexity of Tsukasa's SEKAI, it can also be related to the creators' creativity, I guess? See, Classroom SEKAI, Stage SEKAI, and Street SEKAI look normal because Leo/Need, MMJ, and VBS have normal people's creativity and imagination. I guess that's also the reason why their SEKAI are familiar to them, other than because those places hold memories for them. Meanwhile, Empty SEKAI doesn't only reflect Mafuyu's lack of feeling something but also her inability to imagine or create something related to her feelings in her mind. So, while Tsukasa is sensible and has common sense, he also has the creativity to imagine a world like Wonderland SEKAI. It also helps that Tsukasa feels a lot unlike Mafuyu and other creators, so having a bunch of things in Wonderland SEKAI isn't that weird.

(Also, I just read the Summer School event story and it's ??? when Emu kinda hinted that Miku was the one who did the magic tricks (in the real world) and not her. It could be that Emu only followed Miku's instructions but the way the event story and card stories left that part ambiguous made me overthink stuffs lol--imagine if the only limit to what SEKAI and the VS are capable of is the creators' feelings and imagination. A lot of VS said that creating SEKAI and its intricacies is very difficult but with the way Wonderland SEKAI is though... Maybe Tsukasa could do a lot more than he realized.)

As for the reason why Wonderland SEKAI is the first SEKAI where all 6 VS gathered together (at least going by event stories order), I think it was because Tsukasa 1) experienced new things with WxS, and 2) wanted to support WxS better. Len (and most likely Rin) appeared not long after the unit story, and MEIKO appeared around the time he saw Sakurako as a rival. The only exception was Luka because she appeared because of Tsukasa's regret(?) in Hinamatsuri. However, it's kinda dubious whether or not Wonderland SEKAI has all 6 VS together first because Stray Bad Dog, An's 1st BD show, and Same Dreams Same Colors hinted that KAITO and Luka were already in Street SEKAI before they appeared in their first featured event stories.

Hanako-kun Ch 66 Thoughts

With the way this is going, this place kinda reminds me of Yako's boundary. There was the boundary with the water as the ground, then there was a big fall, then there was an area where the yorishiro was. 

But like....where are Akane and Aoi? They fell down the same pit...???? Did they spawn elsewhere in this village? And what are the MitsuKou+Natsuhiko trio gonna do? Are they gonna battle 6th while the other 4 try escaping? Or will the 6th go down for the marriage Sumire was talking about, and then all 7 of them will reunite? (Hanako, Nene, Akane, Aoi, Mitsuba, Kou, Natsuhiko) will the marriage just....happen? If Sumire's the yorishiro, does removing her seal kill her? Is that where the conflict will come from? 

...I just realized that Sumire did her hair up like Aoi does at the very end of the chapter.

Makes me wonder if they're related before Aoi got taken and they were just making those lanterns, one of the older folks talking to Aoi commented about her relative..

Both her parents and her grandparents know about the supernatural, huh...? and that mysterious girl with the lantern that showed up to direct Yashiro and Akane to Aoi must have been Sumire, right? Maybe she came to check on her relative? Would that make Sumire Aoi's sister, maybe? Sumire says being in love with a supernatural is taboo, so maybe after this happened, her parents somehow got to the real world and had Aoi? What’s weird is that the 6th seems to recognize Aoi. Either he’s mistaken her for Sumire, or they’ve somehow met before. 

Aoi's called a kannagi, though, so maybe the 6th took her in order to give Sumire life again... cause Yashiro says she's a yorishiro so it'd make sense, right? cause like, Yako did the same kind of thing, she took people into her boundary in order to make a new Misaki. And someone who resembles Sumire so much to the point that both Yashiro and 6th remark upon it is just perfect for that, right? He flat out asks Aoi to be a sacrifice, after all.

So that’s where things will go, right?

The 6th wants Aoi to be a sacrifice in order to somehow bring Sumire back to life, as she’s not technically alive, she’s a yorishiro. The wedding will probably be the climax to this, there might be some sort of ceremony held there in order to revive her somehow, since Aoi had to go through preparations because of the 6th. 6th’s minions seem to have gotten rid of her memories and personality, and the way she acts after they did that seems even more like Sumire. 

So the others (Hanako, Nene, Akane?) will probably do some kind of “stop the wedding!” thing, maybe. And the MitsuKou+Natsuhiko trio might add some kind of element of surprise into it too. Because who does Natsuhiko work for? Tsukasa. And what is Sumire? (99% sure she’s) A yorishiro. And if people being yorishiro’s is a possibility, maybe the association with Natsuhiko will bring about revealing that Tsukasa is a yorishiro as well. And that’ll just stir up a whole bunch of trouble, won’t it! I’m looking forward to the upcoming chapters!

First: I hope you stay healthy as well 🍀 Second: Thank you for the ask + giving me a chance to talk about my kiddos 🙏 That’s always a joy for me to do

Kimiko would certainly struggle with quarantine. The fact that she can’t work in Yukihira-Diner upsets her and she feels her life lacks a lot of excitement during those days. She’d still try to make the best out of it and would most likely put on YouTube tutorials and the likes to teach herself some new things to try. Also she would help her father clean the house every second day. Her brother Hiraku in the meantime actually gets some E10-related tasks and such from Noboru additionally to the school-work that Totsuki would possibly give out for their students to do over quarantine. He barely does any of them. Rather he spends most of his time with texting and YouTube/Netflix, aside from experimenting dishes. He does miss the drill and excitement from Totsuki and all the parties where he is the center of attention.

Hiroshi does find his enjoyment at staying home. He helps out his mother a lot, plays with his younger siblings and also gets pretty crafty. The entire Aldini-Tadokoro-Family handles the situation rather well and is good at giving themselves distractions and things to do. The only major thing that specifically Isami is anxious about is how long it might take till they can see their relatives form Tuscany again. 

In Tuscany, Mika is scared of possibly getting bored. She spends a good bunch of time with either working out with her mother (they have a work-out-space in their mansion) or binge-watching romance-series on Netflix. But she definitely longs for outside activities and hopes it will be over till her favorite season summer kicks in.

The Hayamas have a really big garden at their house and of course, Kaori therefore spends most of her time gardening. If not outside with her flowers, she either reads or watches a vintage movie with her mother. Akio, in the meantime assists his father had experimenting with fragrances for a possible new perfume or makes some photo-albums with pictures from past travels. Overall, the Hayamas don’t get much time to relax normally and try to make the best out of having to stay at home.

The Nakiris live in such a big mansion and probably, out of all the characters, have therefore the most moving space of all. The fact that they can’t either visit the Yukihiras or their family in Denmark is certainly a drowner though. Both Lola and Mona distract theirselves mainly with working out with their father, Netflix (with Lola watching shows like “Gotham” or “American Horror Story” or idk what and Mona watching Slice-Of-Life stuff and even getting into K-Drama) and listening to music (Heavy Metal for Lola and Techno for Mona ofc).

Suzume (and her father) understand theirselves as valuable sources of entertainment in these days. Suzume gets pretty active on social media with video-clips and tons and tons of memes. While she definitely longs for the outside and more social activities, Suzu is not one to get bored easily. She works out a lot (She actually does Aerobic every morning ahdsh yeah in her 80s-Aerobic-Costume), practices her calligraphy, entertains her family with occasional dance-numbers and so on. Takayuki in the meantime mainly plays WoW or works out with his big sister. Their father also subjects them to a lot of family games and activities though, so there’s also lots of movies watched and lots of charade, Monopoly and what not.

The Mimasakas are generally one of the closest families in terms of spending time together and affection. They find a lot of activities to do together and are also the most open to compromises (like in terms of which movies to watch and such). Ran also offers some advice to students of Totsuki online, who might be more stressed out by the quarantine (and it’s Ran, so she more or less knows exactly who those students are). She also sews a lot, alongside Ayano. Ayano also plays a lot with her dolls and hosts an afternoon tea-party everyday, to which sometimes Subaru, Kazuo, Nao or Ran also join. Kazuo meanwhile watches a lot of romance movies and shows, writes poems or practices his dancing to impress Mika.

Yasu either cleans up, carves some wood or assits his mother in one way or the other. Occasionally he will also just play some video games or watch some documentaries on Netflix.

Chieko !! READS !! She reads it all: Books, E-Books, Essays, Poems, the product-list on her milk-tea….etc. She also plays a lot of chess with Zenji. At times she gets really annoyed by Takahiro’s pranks and such but she does well overall.

Hideyoshi expands on his social media presence during this time and actually posts videos with updates and such everyday and on how he’s doing and he occasionally even streams reactions to YouTube videos or playing video games.  Him and his family also just have their own little karaoke nights at times. But in the end, Hideyoshi is one of the candidates who just wants quarantine to be over since he misses the excitement of parties and the likes.

Daisuke and his family actually have a movie marathon going on. They go through all kinds of vintage movies from Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart to classics of the 80s like “Back to the Future” (Funfact, that’s Daisuke’s favorite movie) or “Ferris Bueller’s Day-Off”. Occasionally Daisuke also uploads videos of him playing guitar, as he does spend a lot of time practicing it during these days.

Masashi mainly either works out or practices calligraphy aside from sharpening his cooking-skills. Albeit he also practices some other Japanese customs here and there. He also puzzles occasionally! Mainly after arguments with Kei! (And the two argue a lot in the end….quarantine is rather difficult for this family being honest). Kei meanwhile shuts himself in his room for the most part and plays video games, like he’d also do on holiday days. He does get dragged out of his room a lot in the end, mainly by Nene, being the concerned and family-oriented mom as ever, who sees this as a chance to get some family-bonding time done.  Often argues with either Masashi or his father during these days. Shigeo kind off just attempts to use this as a chance to engage more in the hobbies he usually has little time for, although the feeling of being unproductive certainly irks him a little. And so he reads quite a lot of crime-novels, plays Sudoko on his phone or watches something on Netflix. As I said, Nene also tries to use these days to get everyone closer together and often tries to come up with activities for all of them to do together. They often end up arguing on whichever movie to watch.

Generally, they’re all not really used to just…that much free time and even if they don’t have to stay at home…this family surely can be difficult a lot of times.

Kiyoko would be lying if she said she wasn’t a little upset about not being able to go shopping and all of that. She keeps her Instagram and other social media active though and posts something everyday, often including suggestions on what to do throughout the quarantine (as a rich girl in a large mansion she does find some things to do). She also spends a lot of her time with her sisters actually. Mainly dressing them up (Yoshiko is annoyed). Moe watches some recordings/movie-versions of her favorite ballets or plays Animal Crossing New Horizons some cute-enough game with Kei thanks to the internet connection.

Noboru keeps himself busy with administrative work as first seat even from home and when he does take a break from it: he mainly paints of course. He looks up pictures of landscapes on google and draws them. It’s not the same as being outside and painting to him, but its good enough as distraction. He also reads a lot.

AMA Transcript: Wild Hunt

Next up is @addude to talk about her Resbang, Wild Hunt! Here’s some of what went down:

Q: Asking how you came up with the plot seems like a good place to start. What was your process?

ADdude: Well, I tried to do something with the theme of out of the woods. I tried to think of something that might be scary and comes out of the woods. So, I thought okay werewolf but then remembered that Free was the last one and that got me sad. So I decide let's do a wedding and a fairy king coming to ruin things and he came out of the forest. That was literally my train of thought. I don't know why, but I always imagine weddings going wrong. I've been to several weddings, none go as planned.

Q: I love the running joke about the pool whether Spirit would interfere with the wedding or not. Plot-wise, it felt like the fun times, the calm before the storm lol, but it also felt so in-character. How did you manage to keep everyone in character?

ADdude: I did love that joke. At one point I worried I was overdoing it, but I figured at that point, go through it. I think in the end Spirit did the right thing, so it worked out. Keeping everyone in character was a little hard. I mean this story took place a number of years after the end of the manga and people have changed in that time. Kid is Lord Death and he and Liz are married and have kids. Black Star and Tsubaki are raising Angela and... Black Star is Black Star, he doesn't change that much. I think the key is to having a good idea of who the character is at their cores and building on that.

Q: I love how you balanced not only a large cast of characters, but your OC’s on top of that. How did you manage juggling everyone and their backstories? Did you ever get frustrated or confused or have to backtrack?

ADdude: I start with the main characters and spin from that. Kami and Nene are getting married so they take a lot of focus. They are going through a lot of course, so yeah. Maka is getting a new stepmom so I touched on that, she knows they love each other so she's okay. Her biggest worry is that she doesn't have the right gift. Everyone else is their reactions, like with Spirit having to accept his Ex is getting married and everyone’s reactions to everything. As for keeping track, I made a short outline to keep track of everything important and I fill in the gaps as I go, then try to touch on the side characters. Though yeah, I had to check back every once in a while to make sure I wasn’t getting something wrong. Since I'm doing the story from last Resbang, I had to reread the past stories to make sure everything was in line.

Q: Was writing this sequel easier than writing your last Resbang?

ADdude: Maybe harder, cause yeah I had to go back and make sure I kept everything in the same canon. At the start of this story is talking to Nene about how she meet Kami. I had an idea of how it went but went back and noticed I changed some things when retelling the story. I honestly forgot that Nene actually punched Kami. Makes more sense in context. They were in the middle of a battlefield and Nene thought she was an enemy.

Q: Speaking of Nene, I just love her lol. She's so cute and strong and loves Kami so much. Where do you draw inspiration for your Soul Eater OC’s? They all have such detailed backstories and each has their own distinct personality.

ADdude: Actually Nene came from another series, she was a minor character in another anime called Is this a zombie. I built a lot on that character, she was very minor so there wasn't much there to start with. But I saw a lot of potential.  And Kami came from a joke I made with Soul Dwelling on tumblr, about how Kami was the opposite of Spirit. He was super protective about Maka and Kami was just waiting for grandkids. Both Kami and Nene are an example of just no one stopping me. I got an idea and it just started growing and eventually I had to fully fledged characters. Like yeah, I got a whole story of how they met in battle and how fell in love. Kami's history got even more crazy cause yeah the idea has been around a lot longer for me.

Q: Where did you get the inspiration to make Eu write everything down instead of verbally communicating? That’s so unique and makes her intriguing.

ADdude: Eu is another character from Is this a zombie. Again, that came out from a joke. Eu can fight with a scythe like Maka and I joked that because of that Kami adopted her. Then I actually wrote it, finding a way for it to be canon in both series. The notepad thing is her thing, she has a lot of magic that she can't control. It’s so strong that if she speak it will make her words come into reality so writing it down is the only way for her to communicate. Oddly enough, her armor was to keep her powers in check and was made by Nene in canon. When I found that out I started to connect things and that’s where I eventually got the idea for Kami and Nene to meet and fall in love.

Q: I know a lot of Soul Eater fans have their own ideas of how Maka's mom acts or is, just because she wasn't seen at all in canon. How did you go about characterizing her?

ADdude: I started an RP blog for Kami years back. It started with that joke. There were a bunch of RPers back then who shipped Soma and I thought of a joke of Kami showing up and asking when she was gonna get grandchildren. At some point the joke kept going and had to get serious and slowly I developed a long and strange back story about her life. I just did my best not to contradict canon.  Just little by little, she grew as a character.

Q: Where did you get the idea to make Excalibur related to Maka and Kami? I busted out laughing when I read that, poor Maka!

ADdude: It started with Kami being one of the few people who could deal with him.  Then I noticed Maka had a soul with wings and how Excalibur gave wings to his user. I eventually connected the things. In one my previous stories I touched more on the relationship with Kami and Excalibur. And I thought, yeah okay he's her ancestor, let’s give him family. And yeah. Maka is a pretty accepting person but... yeah she does everything she can to not think [about] how he could have kids with a person. Just like, try not to think of how that would work. And yeah, in canon Excalibur did hook up with a woman. That HAPPENED!

Q: With so much backstory and characters to balance, what’s your editing process? Did any plot points or scenes not make the final cut?

ADdude: Yeah, some things. I mean, I did want to touch on other people. Like what you brought up about Patty now calling herself the duchess of death, it didn't add to the overall story but I want to touch on the others. Marie had a kid and she's retired. She wants to help Kami but everyone insists she stay behind because she's earned her retirement and they trust her to watch the children.  There was a lot of other stuff I wanted to add in about others but [it got] cut out. Like Anya from Soul Eater was actually inspired to go to DWMA because she met Kami and I was going to have her at the wedding but cut her out cause it slowed down the story. I also had a whole other plot that the fairy king was actually working for someone else but cut that off since it would have doubled the story.

Q: It would've doubled the word count??! Dang that sounds interesting, can you give us a summary of what that would've been like, or are you planning to save it for writing later in the future?

ADdude: In the last resbang story I had it that Kami had a history with Arthurian mythology along with Excalibur himself. Kami sorta dated the witch Morgan le Fey. Didn't end well. In fact, due to weird circumstances Morgan was actually the witch that Kami and Spirit killed to make him a death scythe. But a witch of such power and legendary status had tricks. Like Voldemort before her she split her soul, but she survived until Asura woke up the remains of her soul. Then Kami and Co killed her for good. The thing is that Morgan had a fairy teacher and that one would have been behind The Fairy King in this story, coming for revenge for her student. The Fairy King leads an army of shadow monsters, but this person would have been a whole lot scarier and worse.  I think I might save them for next year’s Resbang though.

Q: How did you handle the deadlines for check-ins and posting?

ADdude: I tried to pace myself. I tend to write a lot naturally so it helps just to work little by little working my way up to the word count. Luckily for me I was sometimes sick in bed so I got ahead of one of the deadlines and just kept at it. I tend to get sick in winter so that bought some time to work with.

Q: What was your favorite scene to write? And least favorite?

ADdude: I honestly had a lot of fun with Maka and her new family. Just her and Eu and Excalibur trying to figure what gift to get. Soul finally getting fed up and telling her to get anything because her mom would always love it.  The end scene with everyone together as a family moment was just nice to give them a nice moment like that.  My least favorite would have to be the thing right before the wedding. I do love this character and I hated writing Kami breaking down, knowing she wouldn't get the wedding with the woman she loved.

Q: Congrats on finishing your Resbang! How are you feeling about it overall?

ADdude: Overall I'm happy with what I wrote and that I gave my character a happy ending. What can I say, I love happy endings.

Q: I don't know anything about the "Is this a zombie?" series but i loveeeeeee how you're exercising your artistic freedom and doing a crossover no one else has or would ever consider. I do want to hear more about what exactly inspired you to put these two series together -- was it something as simple as both Maka and Eu having scythes as weapons?

ADdude: So, yeah, it started simply I was watching Is this a zombie and made a dumb joke that Kami was going to adopt Eu because she had a scythe. A lot of stuff I do is just because no one stops me, not even me. But there were connections in both series that pushed that along. Like, how both series deal with death and evil. And both have an arrogant loud mouth that is pretty short. Yes, I’m talking about Black Star and Haruna. Then of course there were the weapons. Meisters had their own weapon and the magical garment girls had weapons too, and they didn’t transform but also seemed to be alive. I thought up the idea that the magical garment girl weapons were somehow based on the demon weapons in soul eater.

Q: Also, why the pairing of Nene and Maka's mom as opposed to another pairing?

ADdude: Yeah, again another joke that took on a life of its own. The joke was that Kami had a thing for red heads and big boobs. Because Spirit was a red head and he himself was a big boob. Then I went past the joke and it kinda made sense. From what we got in canon, Nene had been the strongest warrior and a glimpse to the pass showed her being devoted and serious to her duty. Now she was far more relaxed and didn’t seem to have any real desire to fight anymore. That reminded me of Kami, how she was one the best meisters but seemed to quit to travel around. I started putting a history for them together, they were fighting together standing alone in their fights, so [there was] a lot of mirroring. Until it clicked that maybe they could have something more than just a friendship. And it worked, they were two warriors who’d been through a lot and developed feelings. It worked, so I kept at it.

Q: It sounds like you really like character development and writing characters with a lot of "potential" (that is, not a lot is mentioned about them in canon and much is left up to the audience to speculate). I know you had a fave scene to write but did you have a fave CHARACTER that you enjoyed writing as well, such as a quirk or fact or backstory that you thought up and gave them?

ADdude: Isn’t that what fanfiction is for? Like to fill in gaps the author never got around to… filling. We didn’t know a lot of Nene so I started to put in stuff for the gaps. As a writer my favorite thing is when characters develop, I literally scream when characters regress for no reason or just do stupid stuff for plot. Maka and family were fun to write because none of them have a lot of family normally. I got to explore a little what they would do in a family setting. It always felt weird when I made Excalibur serious and trying to keep in character. But, yeah, he was angry, so I had an excuse. Spirit was fun. He’s usually so goofy and here he had some serious moments dealing with letting go. I tried to stay in character and yeah, he would be upset and a bit hurt but would try to let the person he loved move on. I liked adding some growth to him. Hell, I’m pretty sure everyone had some growth in this story. Crona is calmer now off the moon from my last story. Maka and Soul are comfy as a couple and pretty much family. Kami pushing through her issues that she got from her nasty break up with Spirit. Liz is a responsible mom and helping everyone out. Black Star is being a dad, sort of. But yeah, development for all.

Q: I'm kind of curious as to where in canon it says that Excalibur hooked up with a woman LMAO... or maybe I saw it myself and just erased it from memory...

ADdude: Okay, that might have been a bit of a stretch. We saw him in bed with a woman in one of his stories. So, you have to take that with a grain of salt. Then again, it’s canon that the Arthur stuff was true and he was different back then. So who’s to say what’s true. But yeah, I’m taking that as true.

Q: What do you think you'll write about next?

ADdude: I’m still trying to edit my own book, so progress is slow. I’ve somehow got like four Star Vs the Forces of Evil stories going along with other fanfics of various fandoms. And I am working on a Soul Eater Abridged series as its writer and several voices and editor.  Working on episode two. And I’m writing Thanos snap fics, like what it would happen if the snap affected other worlds and yeah the Soul Eater world is on the chopping block list. I do have some idea for how I want to continue this Resbang story, maybe for next year.  I don’t have everything ready, but maybe Maka has her own family in the near future.
