I love the hatchling post so much because it shows a lot of who they all are at their core!
The fact that Robin's performance gets worse ONLY around Dawn after this incident shows something important about them. Their confidence is a very important part in how they work. Because they ARE good. Their enthusiasm, even if it might sometimes get in the way, is also a huge motivator to be better, to get the job done. When Dawn crushes that? with something that sounds like 'I really do not wish to be around you and if I could I would never be again'? Well ouch! Are they that bad at their job? How much of what they do and what they ARE is putting him off so much? So now being around him feels like being tested and judged constantly. Instead of having a senior agent that is neutral about them, and someone to learn from and hopefully impress, they now feel like a bother, maybe that their usual self is just not good enough or at all and that they should triple check everything they do. Unfortunately, self doubt is the killer of Robin’s performance and they themself probably notice they’re doing even worse, worsening the feeling.
I find it interesting that they can just reject the partnered missions with Dawn, and the fact that he then is being partnered with someone new each time, tells me Dawn’s reputation built over time has isolated him as well, even if he thinks that’s what he wants. Apparently agents won’t be forced to work with him at all. Which I can see him using to justify his position as star agent, but he probably can’t be blind to the fact that people do NOT want to work with him. And then being reminded of that after he just pushed away the person that did want to? That probably hurts a lot. (Combined with the fact that the only factor affecting Robin’s performance was him. For once, he didn’t know better. His approach wasn’t the appropriate one. He caused the problem). Now he realizes Robin was looking at him both as a professional and an actual person. They wanted to understand him! And they did! (or at least enough for him to notice and to miss)
Robin accepting to forgive him just makes my heart ache <3 They really are the ray of sunshine here, ironically haha! Though it does seem to me some of that doubt would probably remain. “I’ll be annoying” even if lighthearted, already says they’re self-conscious of how he regards him. (Though it helps that Dawn said he’d rather that than not have them at all) With time it will probably ease up, though a couple occasions may come up when they withdraw again. This is Robin after all XD (But they are also so strong because they keep bouncing back and I love them for it!)
And then with Dusk! His missions in infiltration were already probably very solitary and while he does take pride in his skill, he is not as preoccupied with his dignity as Dawn is. He wants to do his job right and this rookie is throwing him off his rhythm with their carelessness. Don’t know how he gets them to stop from walking in front of that camera in time. Maybe he yanks them back a bit harshly and then delivers the line. And then regrets it. He dislikes stuffy atmospheres, and perhaps he hadn’t realized how much he enjoyed Robin not trying to be a stuck up agent and instead being passionate about it all. He is passionate about it as well, if he wasn’t he wouldn’t be as competitive in canon AU as he is. But now he just turned into the stuck up one and in his attempt to show it he scared them. And in this version, Robin is probably not that used to violent missions as the objective is to avoid hostiles as they sneak around, so the show of intimidation must have left a deep impression. Understanding ‘I won’t have you getting in the way of the mission either!’
And he now hates that they’re scared of him! We know he’s not a social butterfly like Sun used to be. So he is awkward with people and even if he wanted to reach out in the past, his increasing reputation as a nocturnal agent with red eyes and sharp teeth probably put many people off. He might not be too social, but clearly he does not enjoy the absolute loneliness either. He doesn’t want to be perceived as senselessly violent, he’s not a monster! It didn’t matter that much with other coworkers that didn’t make an attempt to know him or judged him preemptively, but with the one that did? The one who was pushed away by his own words and actions? Oof. He’s the shy one after all. It doesn’t feel good to be regarded like that when previously it was mostly admiration. No wonder he’s the one apologizing directly
And I see him!! Stealing that hair tie just to try to guarantee they do want to come back! Hair ties are easy to find and buy. If Robin does come to the mission asking for it, it means something alright! (which they do, of course they do). “Try to get it back” too! Giving them permission to come close. Inviting them to do so. Come and play! (and there’s the analogy of two dogs leaning down playfully haha. I’m sorry I growled. We can play fight if you want).
…This got exceedingly long dghkjhfdg
God I am so excited for this you have no idea
Okay!! Let's go!!
Robin is very particular about their job, sure - but as you say, their enthusiasm is a vital part of their work ethic. It's something they don't lose even as senior agent! They still do their cool stunts they still keep novelty gadgets they still have fun. All on their own, but it's fun! Hatchling Robin may seem like a reckless newbie, but their ideas work. They aren't set in their ways like Dawn, who thinks his way IS the highway, and while that annoys him he later sees that underneath the "hehe spy movie" attitude is a mind that can think outside the box, and does so well!
But when he takes that from them? When he makes them feel bad for having fun, and trying to learn from him, too? They hesitate, they zone out, they question themself and end up making more and more mistakes. It's easier to push the rejection away when they aren't around him, and so they start working alone. Unlike the other agents who refuse to work with Dawn again after one mission, they don't outright state that it's simply a bad match, and find excuses - a different mission, oh, sorry, simply so preoccupied with paperwork, something personal came up very sorry - the higher ups squint at them, but it's also not hard to figure out why the newbie might not want to work with the guy literally scaring away half the work force already. Because that's what the other agents do - "Yeah the guy's a pro, but he's not cooperative, which is vital to this mission. There's no way to help when he won't let us, and frankly, it's best to let him work alone then". Those agents know Dawn is the problem - Robin is too scared to admit that they might be.
Robin was about to make a very valid point of "Look, we worked this mission together, and instead of writing separate reports, why don't we work together on that too?" and he shot it down with a haughty "Oh you think we're friends?" He's 100% the presumptuous asshole in this scenario, and he realizes it, too. He got so used to proving himself as right that he forgot that someone else being right doesn't make him wrong, and as always his confidence hinges on his (perceived) productivity. So realizing he actually shot down the one person who helped him improve (because hey, who would've thought - considering more options helps you broaden your horizon sometimes! shocker!) by simply having a pair of fresh eyes? Maybe their technique is unorthodox, but he can't argue with results. They saw him for him, they understood how he works, they helped him loosen up a little, and then he misses all that.
So he's awkward, and doesn't really apologize (he will, many, many times in the future) but he admits to a mistake which... Is still kind of big for him, ngl. And Robin sees that, and his weird attempts to get them to care for themself, presented with unwavering (faked) confidence, and well. Maybe Robin is a bit morosexual after all LMAO because they pretty much go "Oh he's a fool then, I'm intrigued." They do bounce back quickly, partly because, well... They don't know what else to do. They don't really have many options - and they kind of hope that with this first step, there will be more to follow, and maybe he'll actually grow to like them some day! And then he will be sorry for hurting them, and he really won't mind their antics anymore! (They're right, but they cling to their optimism rather desperately anyhow)
And yeah! For Dusk I pretty much imagined that - Robin prattling on about something, missing his warning - and so he yanks them back and immediately tears into them for being careless. If they can't take him seriously, he'll show them that he is the senior agent for a reason - and only ends up scaring them. And oh, ouch - that is not what he wants at all.
Because you're right! He's a menace, competitive and playful, it just got stomped out of him by solitary missions and years of the same people not acknowledging his skill. There's no playful Moon, because who would he play with? The only outlet he still has is his stupid gimmick and that involves actively threatening people, so when that instinctively also slips out? Unfortunately, entirely wrong target group. And he doesn't know how to fix it either, during the mission, because they do have to focus and they're careful now so...
But then they continue to be like that, and then even worse, they just stop showing up at all. And he realizes he's been affected more than he thought, engaging more than he thought, because he's distracted and starts fumbling during missions now. All while Robin jumps and rushes to avoid him any time they spot him at HQ, and suddenly all the talent that was directed towards keeping up with him is used to get away from him, and he hates it. He hates it so, so much, so he doesn't wait long to apologize.
He's so awkward, but he's also lonely - so he kind of gets it. Sun and Eclipse are the only other people he gets along with and now he has to realize that there was someone who actually brought fun into his life and he pushed them away, so he needs to fix it. He got too used to the assumptions of other people that he misjudged Robin, and he'll admit to that, if kind of stiffly. It already sends a message that he shows up with normal eyes, normal teeth (both a look he barely sports at work) and making himself actively smaller while hiding the hands that scared them before? Actions over words, just a bit, and Robin sees that gesture for what it is. Once again "Oh he's a fool, I'm intrigued."
And the dog analogy!! Yeah!! Robin did the equivalent of a yelp, so he crouches low and stops playing to check up on them, to see the hurt and to make sure they know he didn't mean to! The playtime can resume, if a little more carefully, but that's alright! They now have clearer boundaries, and Dusk invited them with the weakest bait (to still give them that out if they want it, just in case), and it works. I kind of want to imagine that they carry a spare hairtie with them during the next mission, but initially show up with open hair - catching him off guard long enough to pounce snatch it back out of his pocket before retying it with a satisfied grin. Equivalent awe moment to senior agent Robin taking off their gloves for parkour and making him look a totally normal amount <3

Taking Responsibility: The line between Gabriel and Nathalie
Contains spoilers for Evolution
At the beginning of Risk, Gabriel expressed guilt over Nathalie’s health, to which Nathalie said, “It wasn’t a mistake. I was the one who decided to use the Peacock Miraculous despite it being damaged. I knew the risk that I was taking.” Her words can be interpreted in many ways; as disturbing martyrdom, or completely clearing Gabriel’s conscience, to name a few negative ones. But it also tells us something very specific about Nathalie, and damn, it was high time: she can take responsibility for her actions.
It introduces a wide gap between her and Gabriel, and might be a hidden element in the rising conflict between them. Her outrage in Evolution hits hard not only because of her brutality but also because it calls our attention to the scene in Risk, which happened less than twenty-four hours before this one. Now Nathalie pushes Gabriel in front of decisions truly his, and forces him to face them. But Gabriel is unable to—he shields himself with Ladybug’s trick when Nathalie verbally attacks him, and the episode closes with Gabriel blaming Ladybug (again) for Nathalie's anger. Unlike Nathalie, Gabriel will not take responsibility and that creates a much-needed contrast between them.
The episode emphasizes Gabriel’s bad decisions and his inability to take responsibility for them, calling attention to it more than ever. As it ends up becoming the sparkle creating the tension between him and Nathalie, the writers have to/need to/should deal with it (it smells like a plot point, but who knows). “Why,” “how” and “how much” are the big questions, and they are difficult to answer five seasons in.
After Evolution, I can see two roads for Gabriel's character: Nathalie’s anger and insults could either simply push him further into madness, or push him into madness and then get him to do some self-reflection. Gabriel’s greed, madness, his mistreatment of the kwamis (which is not new) and his disrespect towards Nathalie (not new, but unusual) imply that he is near his lowest point. He is even reduced to a manchild state (visually too, see the ending card of Evolution lol). Taking responsibility and living with the consequences of his actions would be the first step to climbing out of the hole he dug for himself, and I can’t wait to see if he takes the shovel or the rope.

Hey, Hero Gabe, I don't wanna steal your heroic thunder here but even as a good person ur a failure of a father, I hope you know that
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Adrien couldnt be any more suicidal and self-harming, how BADLY did you abandon that boy??
ALSO
Hero Gabe, my man, light of my life
Would you kindly explain to me why your intro still shows Emilie dying from using the Peacock Miraculous, basically telling us that Sadrien is more likely than not a Sentihuman too and YOU ARE still wearing his amok object!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And you straight up HARSHLY excluding and abandoning your son in all of this (keeping his entire hero work secret from him), who is looking to YOU.
Tumblr media
The dynamic here is depicted clear as day, the unreachable one is still GABRIEL. Not the other way around. Gabriel is still horribly failing Adrien and the special isn't exactly hiding it.
While, if I understood this right I'm not fluent in french, Alt Adrien never attented school? But Alt Marinette knows him so he's still a celebrity child for his father's brand. Also, Adrien for some messed up reason ist still being held up to the standard of perfection (or he holds himself to it) as one of Griffe Noire's comments clarified.
So in fact, nothing is different at the core of this mess? Its still all Gabriel's fault, he even stole the Miraculous from the Supreme (seemingly both the Butterfly and Peacock) paralleling how our Gabriel found the exact same Miraculous too.
So yeah, Hero Gabe,
Please explain yourself, Mister Hero Man!

Say Girl failure finally marks Tim up, after much begging and pleading. No way he's hiding them. Any and every excuse to flaunt them in his brother's faces. Poor girl doesn't know she's just started an all out war of who can get the most visible marks from her.
Two words: Pandora's Box. There is no going back once you bite one of these idiots it IS an all out war anon. damian manages to piss you off so hard you give him a black eye and he preens like a peacock. if you indulge in any anger releasing behaviors (boxing, vigilantism, just pure feral rage) they will use it to get a leg up. once again i am advising you stay away from these freaks. no matter how good it feels to totally beat tim into the floor it is the WRONG decision!!!!!

Fnaf Movie thoughts!
I wanted to ramble some of thoughts and theories I had about the Fnaf Movie.
Cause the brainrot is real and won't leave my brain.
(wow just read back that sentence. Excuse any grammar errors or dumb shit, I'm still very sick)
Below the cut will feature heavy spoilers, so unless you want to be spoiled of the major twists this movie has, I would recommend wait to read this.
I unfortunately couldn't see the movie in my theatres, cause I got horribly sick and wasn't able to get the full theatre experience.
I was able to watch on Peacock, with all my fnaf plushies with a super sinus clogged headache, so that's the mindset I had. lol
Anyway.. Movie time
I absolutely LOVED Mike and Abby. First off.
I didn't even mind a lot of time of the movie was spent AWAY from Freddy's. Because so much is just about learning about Mike and his family and connection to Abby.
Sure, we could have spent the WHOLE movie at Freddy's. But that is not what this movie is about. And it's clearly trying to tell a bigger mystery and this felt a very introduction friendly entry point to anyone confused about the fnaf lore.
I love how completely obsessed Mike is with Dream theory. To the point he's taking heavy duty sleeping pills on his job that he clearly doesn't need and just is doing it so he can relive his dreams/fabricated memories.
The intro credits with the 8-bit style graphics of the minigames in fnaf2-4??? Like bro? I cried. That was so iconic and they fill in the backstory for the purple guy, who actually appears as his sprite??? Like... Man iconic.
Also... Dude... Mike Schmitt in the movie is like... what the Fans wanted Mike in the games to be for YEARS. Like... Mike in the games is nothing. He's a silent face. We know so little about him, and everything else is purely speculative. Even the whole "he was foxy bro and has regret over his brother" ...That's all theory and not confirmed. As far as we know, Crying child and his brother might not even be Afton kids.
But this Mike is EXACTLY the motivations we wanted Mike to have? If that makes sense? He laments his brother was taken at a young age and expresses regret and motivation to want to get him back. he has the motivations that the fandom built for him for years and ran with it, and I LOVE THAT.
FNAF Movie actually gives good reasons why Mike comes back every night, as said in Living Tombstone's iconic song "why do you want to stay?" Cause of his regrets with his brother and his obsession with dream theory and doesn't realize the animatronics are a threat until like... night four.
THE ANIMATRONICS?? THE PUPPETS??? THEY LOOK SO GOOD??? HECK YEAH!!!!
I SCREAMED when I recognized Matpat's voice, and then I saw his face. Reconized him for his voice WAY before I saw his face. I didn't think he'd have a speaking or face cameo and get to say his iconic "it's just a theory" line and about food too??? King shit.
Letting the animatronics have moments where they can just be cute and friendly as well as creepy and bloodthirsty is so great! I want to give them all pets.
THE CHILD ACTORS ARE ALL SO GOOD! To the point you don't even notice! It's often hard to get children to play a convincing performance, but these children acted really well! They must have a real talented director who knew how to get the best of their child actors. You don't even realize that the child actors are great, cause they're so good it's unnoticeable. AMAZING
VANESSA BEING WILLIAM AFTON'S DAUGHTER IS NOTHING SHORT OF BRILLIANT!!!!
I MEAN, I SCREAMED WHEN SHE SAID "William Afton My father"
I was screaming about this in my group chat.
I was screaming for a thousand years.
AND IT makes sense why the cops never found the bodies. Vanessa is a cop! She's covering for her father!
I absolutely LOVE what a girl failure Vanessa is too!
Like she shows up, HEAVILY flirts with Mike (like she was laying it on so thick my demisexual ass was picking up on her vibe) and just shows up to give him exposition on the FNAF lore. fheogheahf. Like. It's great.
(no doubt she was flirting heavily with Mike at the start due to manipulation from her father, I do believe it grows to genuine fondness later)
I've heard people complain about her flipflop nature... BUT THAT's the POINT!
Tumblr media
(a literal arcade game in security breach.)
She let Abby play with the animatronics, knowing it was dangerous. Her original plan was to kill Mike, but she changes her plans when she sees he has a kid. (who she thought was his daughter at first) It was only after Abby got injured by Accident, she realized that what a danger she posed by brining them here at all. She only threatened to shoot Mike because she hoped that such an extreme threat would get him to quit. She even tells him about how many security guards quit. But it doesn't.
She even said she tried to warn in her own way. She's terrified of her father. And we get deep foreshadowing about that throughout the movie.
I really hope that in some sequels we will get to see Vanny at some point. Maybe even Springtrap and Vanny working together in the same movie??? CAN YOU IMAGINE THIS?!?!? I WOULD GO FERAL
Anyway, Vanessa is such a girl failure and my girl blorbo. I support her and her woman's wrongs
The minor look of regret after Will stabs his daughter... peak cinema.
The springlock scene... The quiet of the stabs, giving such a realistic collapse... the "I always come back" ...Embracing the monster he knows he is. He is the mask. He isn't hiding behind the mask, like he is being Steve. he is the mask now. Just... Chefs kiss.
The animatronics dragging springtrap away mirrors the ending of Silver Eyes so well, and I'm glad, because that was the best part of the Silver eyes. <3
THE LIVING TOMBSTONE GOT TOP BILLING FOR THE FIRST CREDITS SONG! PERFECT
Garret is 100% going to be the Puppet in the Movie Series. He was the one taken in the car, the spelling out in the minigame sounds at the very end says: "COME FIND HIM" And after Living Tombstone ends, the credits music fades into Grandfather's clock music box... Puppet's song..... Garret will be the Puppet in this universe and I so look forward to that.
I enjoyed the movie. I'm glad that they left the overarching mystery of Garret open to be explored in the sequel.

2.2 is coming and if I don't write this now, how can I get jossed later?
Tumblr media
This is the moment when I started to wonder if their 2.0 conversation was a role play.
Like, we know this issue is a sore point for Ratio. The fact that this guy he called a loud peacock in 2.0 made a joke about his failure to get into the Genius Society and all he said was 'I was being sarcastic'?? Babe, is something wrong? You barely touched your sharp and witty comeback.
(Btw I checked both Cn and Jp, he says 'It was just a joke.')
And I don't want to bring up the voice acting because the way voices sound is subjective and what I hear might not be what you hear, but the Double Indemnity scenes with Ratio are probably the most relaxed we ever see Aventurine ever. (I'm talking about the Cn version, but I played in Jp audio and I could hear it there too.) He's playful and his voice is higher pitched, so different from what we've seen of him so far.
It sounds like Ratio and Aventurine have known each other longer than they want us to believe in their 2.0 convo.
Tumblr media
I mean, the implication here is Ratio did some research on Aventurine's background recently and that's how he found out about Aventurine's past. So we make the assumption that they haven't been working together for long.
Look, they even did a Penacony remix of their Final Victor conversation
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But honestly, you'd think Ratio would have figured out if he trusted Aventurine or not at this point, considering he came back for more after Final Victor (lmao??)
Also, we know Aventurine had been planning for Penacony since his call to Topaz, where he asked for her help. It's hard to believe that he went through all the trouble of asking two different Stonehearts to lend him their cornerstones and then went to Penacony and the Dreamscape with Ratio, whom he barely knows. That's too much gambling, Aventurine!
Tumblr media
We know the Family won't let anyone from the IPC to enter the Dreamscape and Aventurine only gets a pass because of the Watchmaker's invite
Tumblr media
But Himeko is wrong here: Aventurine didn't go inside the Dreamscape alone and he does have someone backing him up. It just happened that almost no one else saw Ratio in Penacony and the one scene where we did see him talking to Aventurine was 2.0, where he got angry and left Aventurine babbling to himself.
But now that we're here, what did Ratio do in Penacony aside from bicker and betray?
His initial job is to gather intel, afaik. Aventurine tells him to go look into things in 2.0 before he left. And he does give Aventurine updates in 2.1 (Aventurine finds out about Firefly from Ratio) so good for you, professor!
Ratio is Aventurine's connection to his colleagues outside. Once Aventurine's plans enter the Dead phase, Ratio is the only one left to tell Topaz and Jade if the plan had been a success or not. (Aventurine also makes a joke about the Genius from the Council of the Mundanites offering to be his undertaker. In the Jp version, he says 'So the Genius from the Council of the Mundanites wants to claim my corpse? What an honour.' So there's also that... Uh. Idk how dead dead Aventurine really is, but at least we know someone's looking after his body while he's gone lmao??)
Tumblr media
But also he's Aventurine's bait to Sunday, the (fake) weak link in Aventurine's plans that Sunday thought he could exploit.
And the 3rd one is a bit complicated, because it is a gamble. Remember Aventurine's E1? Prisoner's Dilemma? Yeah, it's kinda like that. I talked about it before, but let's copy paste it here for easier reading (and because this post totally needs to be a wall of text)
Let's zoom out a bit again and remember that Aventurine was sent to Penacony because Diamond thinks this whole affair could still have a peaceful resolution. Meaning: Aventurine is the kind option. The IPC could have sent Opal instead, but it sounds like that means there would be a body count.
And I think that's why Ratio is here and why he agreed to cooperate. Because if Aventurine's plan works out, only Aventurine's life will ever be in real danger. (And we know from Ratio's note that he also took steps to increase the chances of Aventurine coming back.)
Ratio being there is important to the plan because
Him being from the Intelligentsia Guild removes some of the heat from the Family. If Ratio is coming in as a plus one, the IPC (in this case, I'm assuming it's Aventurine because he's the guy in charge of the operation) chose the best person for the job. It makes the Family happier knowing there are not two IPC envoys walking around the Dreamscape and Aventurine has a buddy who can move around more freely than another IPC employee could
But because Ratio is an outsider, he's also the weak link in Aventurine's plans. Another IPC employee will probably not betray Aventurine, but the Guild has no particular horse in this race. We were also led to believe from their 2.0 conversation that Ratio doesn't like Aventurine very much. This is what I meant when I said Ratio is a bait: Aventurine was pretty much dangling him in front of Sunday, making Sunday think he could use Ratio to ruin Aventurine's plans. The important thing of course is the trust the two of them have for each other (yay, Prisoner's Dilemma). Ratio could ruin Aventurine's plan if he wants to (very bad for all involved because I'm guessing Opal is the next step) and Aventurine could fail (not as bad for everyone involved after 2.1 because the IPC has already won regardless. There's still a Phase 2 in Aventurine's plan and Ratio seems to want him back after that, so I guess he'd consider it a failure if Aventurine doesn't return?), but trusting each other means they win.
Tl;dr Ratio's presence in Penacony is a bit of a gamble on Aventurine's part but it worked well for him so far. Ratio is here to make sure everyone stays alive. (And maybe the Phase Flame? I honestly don't know if the Annihilation Gang will ever come back again, but for now I'm going with the obvious and assuming Ratio is here because he thinks Aventurine's plan will work and work with the least amount of pain for everyone.)
Thank you for getting this far. Why do we think they deserve Oscars?
Aside from the movie references (we'll get to that), we have 3 different instances where Aventurine mentions acting / the 'script'.
The most direct is the conversation with future!Aventurine in the garden maze: future!Aventurine praises Ratio's acting while Aventurine says 'Or he might not be acting at all' (the inability of these two to admit they are friends, but more importantly they don't think the other person thinks highly of them, is2g).
The next one is hidden in the mission description
Tumblr media
And the other one got lost in translation. This was translated to 'You catch on quickly' in En. In Jp he says something like 'You have a good sense for drama, professor' (Sorry Idk what this is in the og Cn)
Tumblr media
Finally, Double Indemnity. I haven't seen the movie, but it seems to be about an insurance salesman who gets seduced by a hot wife femme fatale into helping her get rid of her husband so she could claim his insurance. Double Indemnity refers to this clause where the insurance gets doubled if the person suddenly dies of an accident.
I've thought about this so hard, let me tell you. What could this possibly have to do with Aventurine and the mission? (For example, 'Hot wife Sunday seduces Ratio the insurance salesman into helping him get rid of Aventurine' etc.) And I honestly still don't know but one detail does help my theory so I'm pulling it out:
The relationship between the insurance salesman and the hot wife femme fatale was known only to the two of them. To the insurance claims adjuster, who was investigating the case and trying to prove the husband's death wasn't an accident, those two are unrelated people who might have seen each other once or twice. The claims adjuster suspected the wife, but had no idea of the insurance salesman's involvement. The truth is, they actually knew each other a full year before the plan was set in motion. Hey, doesn't it actually fit nicely now?
(Spellbound otoh, I still don't know. I have a Sunday and Gallagher reading of it, but Hvy keeps telling me no and making it gay instead so Idk.)

Guy on FB: This peacock's poor feather condition is a sign of inbreeding. I didn't talk to the breeder.
Me: then how do you know the bird is inbred if u never talked to the breeder
Guy: Actually this bird is charcoal and they have poor genetics, but I didn't want to say that because then people would think that was the cause.
Me: but it is the cause. you don't even know if this bird is inbred in the first place, how can you claim inbreeding caused this mutation when you don't even know if the bird is inbred
Guy: Well another bird of mine died at 4 years old and the vet said it was pituitary gland failure because of poor genetics
Me: okay?? you know that inbreeding doesn't cause genes to mutate, it just increases the likelihood bad genes will pair up and express in the phenotype? Claiming inbreeding causes fresh mutation just causes people to dismiss health issues or to outcross thinking it's fine as long as they don't inbreed, instead of looking for actual health problems and avoiding breeding genetically unhealthy birds at all.
Guy: you're making baseless claims and not approaching this from a place of genuine questioning, my bird was autopsied by a reputable institution
i'm so tired

I need y’all’s help for something!!
I wanna make another post about Aven’s peacock symbolism bc I found some things and oh boy do I have THOUGHTS, however it’s very hard to research this kinda stuff (esp because I’m already dog at researching things) so if any Romani people can inform me of how they view peacocks/evil eye that would be much appreciated 🙏🙏 I’m aware a lot of stuff is closed practices so I will take the sorry but no answer too 😭 and if I shouldn’t talk about it at all pls tell me (trying to find a source that doesn’t refer to Romani people as the slur for them was damn near impossible so it’s hard to be certain if the info in the:3 sources was placed out of good faith or not, ie should the general public have access to it)
I’ve pretty much only found stuff saying peacocks are a bad thing due to their association with it, as the evil eye is viewed as dangerous/bad in at least Eastern European Romani culture), as well as if the evil eye itself is demonic/associated with the devil but I’m not Christian so I would also need a confirmation on that. It seems like Romani Christians especially swear off peacock related stuff (including their meat), although whether that is related to demonic reasons and/or the general cleanliness rules of both Roman culture or Christianity is something I need to look into more. If anyone actually knows how to research stuff l please help me because I am embarrassingly bad at it and the ghost of academic integrity will haunt me forever if I do not feel my sources are accurate.
A sneak peak of the idea I’m working on is that basically either a ->
Hoyo adorned their Romani coded character in curses either by tone deaf accident or bc they wanted to make fun of him. Which isn’t good or necessarily out of character for the stupid ass company
Or b (the more interesting nuanced interpretation)
Aven views his own luck and by extension himself as a curse so he wears the symbol of that in his culture across his body. As a reminder of both his self loathing and his failure to save the Avgin with his so called “good luck”.
It also has some really interesting satanic implications once you throw Jade + the fact that he only started wearing/being associated with peacock stuff post joining the IPC. Jade already has her references to Christianity, specifically Satan w the snake, contracts and apple in her art, making Avens deal with her for his life a metaphorical deal with the devil/agent of the devil. Most likely out of shame for failing to save the Avgin, working for the people who betrayed them + the previous stuff Aven dawns the peacock related clothing to show he’s cursed.
Also the evil eye is very much related to envy which also suits Aven’s character a lot but I’ll talk about it later

How would you like to see Adrien learn the truth? What would the consequences be?
Hi!
I honestly haven't thought about it. I think ideally that Marinette and/or everyone else who is hiding the secret should come clean to him. If it does end up happening, it should be in a way that prioritizes Adrien's perspective first and foremost. So none of this "Marinette having a breakdown about having to keep this a secret and Adrien finding out this way" business (cough cough Strikeback) that this show loves to pull. That would place more focus on Marinette's pain than Adrien's valid hurt, because Adrien would once again put aside his own feelings to comfort her. Marinette should be telling Adrien because she's realized that she shouldn't keep secrets like this from him and that she should respect his autonomy, and she should make that choice with thought and care, not because she's having a breakdown about it and just blurts it out without thinking because she can't take it anymore.
Marinette has the tendency to think she knows best and to make things about herself (not in a malicious way, it doesn't make her a bad person). Like when she confessed to her mistakes in Strikeback, it was less because she was apologizing to Chat Noir and more that she was berating herself. The same thing happened in Kuro Neko, where she was more focused on her failure as Guardian than Chat Noir. And like in Illusion, when Gabriel pulled Adrien out of school and Marinette's first thought was about how she is a curse for Adrien and that she should stay away from him rather than about Adrien himself (again I want to make it clear that this doesn't make her a bad person, it's a realistic flaw). And I don't want any of that here. She and the narrative should focus on Adrien first and foremost. That would be the character development that she needs, to learn to listen to the people around her, and maybe this time it will stick.
I don't want any of this "Lila tells Adrien" business either even though I know that if the show does deal with this, the Lila thing is how it will go down because it would make Adrien's problems all about Marinette once more. And I don't want Adrien's right as a human being to be just another part of the Lila-Marinette feud that is used to cause conflict between them. If Adrien finds out, the focus should be on him.
As for the consequences, I've said before that I think Marinette and Adrien should break up, and I still stand by that. Canon has proved that Marinette and Adrien can't heal and grow if they are around each other. Marinette will just continue making decisions for him because she wants to protect him, and Adrien will just continue to forgive her over and over because he puts his feelings last. I think that growth for Adrien would be to realize that he doesn't need to accept poor treatment from anyone, even if they love him, and that his feelings of hurt matter and deserve to be validated. I think that him wanting space from Marinette and everyone else in his life who lied to him and not forgiving them instantly would be the best way for him to regain control of his agency. Because what they are doing to him honestly isn't something that can be forgiven immediately, not without losing so much trust in them. And their actions are actively preventing Adrien from healing, and I think he needs to leave so that he can heal before he tries to rebuild and heal his relationships. And this is also time which Marinette can spend healing from her traumas so that she and Adrien can mend their relationship.
That's what I think, anyway. In terms of plot, my ideal Season 6 would have Adrien go back in time, beat Gabriel's ass, use his powers of destruction to sever the link between him and his amok thereby making him a real boy, and smashing the Peacock Miraculous to bits. But that's just wishful thinking. The other thing I'm thinking is that it doesn't matter what happens after, because Adrien's arc was ruined the moment he was denied the opportunity to face Gabriel, and that I think it's bad writing that his arc about breaking free of an abusive father is reduced to being a conflict between him and his girlfriend, because Adrien doesn't get to have anything that doesn't involve Marinette in some shape or form, because he doesn't exist as his own character so much as he exists to meet Marinette's needs.
Anyway, I hope that answers your question anon. Thank you for your ask!

Wow, I'm so normal about this movie! *develops a DreamWorks conspiracy theory on why Me and My Shadow got cancelled*
DreamWorks and franchises: a "conspiracy theory" on why "Me and My Shadow" got cancelled
Tumblr media
On December 10th 2010 the project for an animated movie called "Me and My Shadow" was announced by DreamWorks. The story is about a timid and boring man called Daniel Grubb and his shadow "Shadow Dan" trying to convince him to live a more exciting life. The animation style follows an idea similar to "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", except that instead of blending 2D animation and live-action it would have worked with both 2D and 3D animation, with 2D for the shadow characters and their world and 3D for the real people. Despite being half-way done, the release date of this project kept being pushed back, first from 2013 to 2014, until it entered a state of limbo and eventually got cancelled. This decision was taken mostly due to the failure in 2014 of "Mr. Peabody and Sherman", which brought to the cancellation of other projects as well.
Personally, I have been upset about this cancellation ever since I found out about this movie, mostly because I just know that if it had come out this would have been one of my favorite movies ever. A few days ago DreamWorks released a trailer for their next movie, "Megamind 2", a very cheap-looking sequel to "Megamind" set to release on March 1st 2024 on Peacock. While I was washing the dishes (lol), I thought about this trailer for a moment and had a sudden "conspiracy theory" coming up on why "Me and My Shadow" was one of the movies got cancelled after 2014: In the same trailer of "Megamind 2" they announce a new serie which will come out based on it, meaning that this movie is basically an advertisement or a pilot for the show. This is reinforced by the cheap animation commonly used in these spin-off shows.
This serie announcement made me realize something: DreamWorks has made A LOT of shows, shorts and sequels based on their movies. In other words, this studio loves creating franchises. And even though this is a common marketing choice for many studios, I feel like DreamWorks does this VERY often. Some examples are: -"Shrek", with 3 sequels (might become 4), 8 shorts, 3 TV specials, and 2 spin-off movies and 1 serie based on Puss in Boots -"Kung Fu Panda", with 2 (soon 3) sequels, 3 series and 5 shorts -"How to train your Dragon", with 2 sequels, 3 series and 6 shorts -"Madagascar", with 3 sequels, 3 series, 3 shorts and a spin-off movie based on The Penguins of Madagascar -"Trolls", with 2 sequels, 2 series, 6 shorts and 2 TV specials -"The Croods", with 1 sequel and 2 series -"Monsters vs Aliens", with 1 serie, 2 shorts and 1 TV special -"Captain Underpants", with 1 serie and a possible spin-off movie -"Mr. Peabody and Sherman", with 1 serie As you can see, both known and less known movies ended up having at least 1 serie, turning them into franchises. It's actually rarer to find movies by DreamWorks that were not turned into franchises. So I'd say it's clear that DreamWorks has quite some interest in this marketing choice.
Even their newer movie "Orion and the Dark", released on Netflix on February 2nd 2024, can work as a DreamWorks franchise. You can understand this by the presence of a TEAM of secondary characters: they can't be fully developed in a movie, but they are an interesting team that can be developed in a show. It's the same concept as the Furious Five from "Kung Fu Panda", or as the Penguins of Madagascar and King Julien from "Madagascar": a team of secondary characters the movie can't focus on, but that you wouldn't mind seeing again. And now, with the release of a show based on "Megamind 2", a new team of villains is introduced in the sequel. Villains that are very likely going to be secondary characters that could be developed more in a show. See the pattern? I believe that DreamWorks follows this as their standard for a franchise: the movie must have a team of secondary characters.
Now, let's look back at "Me and My Shadow" and let's focus on the characters. From what we know, there were going to be 4 relevant characters: -Daniel Grubb (who some of you might also know as Stanley) -Shadow Dan (also known as Shadow Stan) -Heidi (Daniel's love interest) -The Shadow Villain (the bad guy, obviously) Every other character that was seen in small Behind-The-Scenes works doesn't seem to have much relevance. There are secondary characters, but they don't seem to be connected as a team, unlike many other secondary characters from Dreamworks.
Now, here's the "conspiracy theory": I believe one of the reasons "Me and My Shadow" was cancelled is that it could not be adapted as a DreamWorks franchise. The story would have been concluded in the movie, the characters didn't need to be developed more, and none of the secondary cast could work as a team. Could they have made some shorts based on it? Probably yes, but a short is not a serie. DreamWorks seems to have more interest in shows than shorts (remember: most franchises have at least a SHOW, not a short!).
With that being said, I'd like to end this post by doing some advertisement for this movie, even if it never got a chance to be finished. Everytime I find a new clip I am filled with pure joy. "Me and My Shadow" deserves to be made. -Shout-out to SQUIDWORD15 on YouTube for finding mANY unfinished clips. Bless this fella

ML Plot Points: Fu and S3 Finale
After the Ladybug Replacement arc, Hawkmoth is recovering while Viceroy takes over the akuma business. They quickly realise that quantity over quality is no longer a viable strategy since they have to deal with 4 to 7 heroes in any given attack. As such, they take a break for a couple of days while waiting for an emotion they can get something useful out of.
The akuma in question is Sandboy. Which would be used to flesh out all the heroes and give Fu a more serious nightmare about his failures.
After that comes Feast. Starts the same, but Fu goes with Ladybug and Chat Noir into Feast and is the one to break the amokised object. Also, This ep is the one when Hawkmoth and MAyura figure out where Fu lives.
I’m not sure If I’d add any more akuma attacks in the time period between the Ladybug Replacement and Feast. Those two are the only really necessary ones, with Feast happening directly before the finale.
And thus, Love Eater happens. (Sidenote, instead of the floating head ballon, I’d have them be a gold and blue two headed snake with the get along shirt wrapped around them. Think a King Taijitu from RWBY). Hawkmoth tries to convince Chloe to get akumatised and it doesn’t work, she just tells him off and sneaks off to fight the akuma. Instead of that, Hawkmoth just gives Lila a butterfly and tells her to stay on standby until he says the word. Hawkmoth has purposefully has Love Eater be more difficult so that all seven heroes will have to be involved. Once all of them are there, he de-akumatises the Bourgeois coupled and akumatises Lila into Hoaxer with the goal of having her distract them for as long as possible.
As soon as Lila is akumatised, Mayura makes a tiny butterfly Sentimonster, has it go into the massage parlour and she changes it so it’s the size of the building. Horse!Fu makes it out with the miracle box, but barely and is immediately confronted by Hawkmoth, Mayura and the Sentimonster.
Fu has had it rough these past few episodes. The Ladybug replacement arc forced him to admit that he’s still making mistakes and that he’s clearly making things worse for the girl who he saw as a granddaughter. Sandboy forced him to accept that the Order was messed up from the beginning and that even if what happened was his fault, he can’t afford to keep punishing himself and everyone he chooses to isolation. Lastly, Feast forced him to face the literal embodiment of his mistake and the Order’s sins.
He can’t keep going the way he’s been going. Even if it’s what the Order would have had him do, it’s wrong.
So Fu just looks at them and apologises. He tells them that, truthfully, he doesn’t know how to help their loved one and that it was wrong of him to lead them on just to get their miraculi. They deserved better. Since Hawkmoth has literal telepathic powers, so they know he’s not lying. It’s a nice moment between a traumatised old man who is finally trying to do better and the two people he screwed over.
Alas, it’s too late for reconciliation. Fu waited too long and the two of them have done too much. Letting them have the miraculi is simply not an option, so Fu does the only thing he can:
He breaks the miracle box and makes portals beneath every miraculous, sending them to a location where he thinks the heroes will find them.
Thus begins the second most interesting fight I’ve foreshadowed in the posts about world building and powers.
-Hawkmoth has telepathy powers and can communicate his intentions to Mayura. This means he can predict what Fu will do and that his teamwork with Mayura and the Sentimonster near perfect.
-Mayura, since she has both the Amok and the peacock miraculous, can control and change the Sentimonster at will. Want to give it a snake head from it’s back that lunges at Fu? A bunch of insect limbs as sharp as swords? Wings? A fuckton of limbs/tentacles? Make it bigger or smaller depending on the situation? She can do so.
-Lastly, Fu with the horse can make portals. Since he had the miraculi since he was 8 and is now almost 200 he is the strongest current holder and he has absolutely no limits. He’ll feel awful afterwards, but it’s for the best. Favourite ideas include:
Launching himself through moving portals to pick up speed and lunge at them them from weird angles,
Throwing the horseshoe and when they parry it, sending it through a portal so it still hits them.
Portal-Cutting a building, making it go through a set of vertical portals so it builds up speed and sending it through a third portal to launch it right at them.
Portal-cutting the Eiffel Tower in specific parts so it collapses on top of them.
Canon had Fu go out like a bitch. HC had Fu go out like a bitch offscreen. I may not like the character, but I can let him go feral in his last moments. The man should have one cool fight scene.
Eventually, the heroes manage to beat Hoaxer and join the fight, at which point, Mayura just makes the Sentimonster really big and violent so they can flee. They at least got the grimoire, that’s. more than they had before.
Fu gives up guardianship and tells Ladybug where he sent the miraculi, since he can’t be sure they’ll find them. His last words to her are: “Don’t repeat my mistakes. Don’t be a Guardian, be a leader.”

Okay, so, the Miraculous. I'm going to start by saying, in a vaccuum, I think all of the miraculous powers and ideas are good and have the potential for a lot of really interesting storytelling. I don't blame anyone for liking any of them or thinking they're cool, because they are!
The issue for me arises over the fact that, when you put them all together as a set of items in the same universe, there's a lot of power overlaps and some major power scaling issues (as more avid fans than myself have pointed out), and some powers that I personally don't find very engaging from a storytelling perspective. And instead of struggling to make it all work, I have decided to make the very cool and attractive call of "None of what I'm doing with this AU is canon anyway, I'm reworking this into a system that I, personally, will have more fun with." Some stuff I'm leaving exactly the same, some I'm tweaking, some I'm just doing something entirely new with. I won't claim my own choices are perfectly balanced either, this is just what I feel like would be a good set of powers to work with both individually and in context with each other. All that said, here's what the Miraculous are and how they work in my settings:
Ladybug – Creation (Lucky Charm) (you know how this works)
Black Cat –Destruction (Cataclysm) (you know how this works)
Butterfly – Emotion (Name unknown) (create an akuma/kamiko)
Peacock – Observation (Perceive) (perfect awareness of surroundings)
Fox – Illusion (Mirage) (creates an illusion)
Bee – Domination (Venom) (paralyzes target)
Turtle – Protection (Shell-ter) (force field to protect self and others)
Rabbit – Acceleration (Race) (super speed)
Dragon – Perfection (Triumph) (allows next action to be taken with 0% failure chance)
Tiger – Colourization (Camouflage) (invisibility)*
Ox – Determination (Deny) (impervious to attacks of all sorts)
Boar – Location (Root) (allows user to locate desired object/person)
Rooster – Presentation (Appear) (can change shape (once only when timer is in play, reverts to usual form when detransformed))
Goat – Disorientation (Confuse) (befuddles target in way specified by user (inhibit sense of balance, mess with a sense, brain fog, etc.)
Horse – Destination (Voyage) (portals)
Rat – Multiplication (Multitude) (duplicate self, with size determined by number of copies)
Monkey – Communication (Chatter) (telepathy, either reading minds or sending mental messages (an adult can do either, a kid has to pick one while activating ability))
Dog – Harmonization (Pack) (gives user and allies enhanced awareness of and ability to coordinate actions with each other)
Snake – Insinuation (Contort) (supernatural flexibility and ability to navigate tight environments)
*This idea borrowed from SailorChibi's Miraculous Hive series, which is my absolute favorite piece of ML fan content and very worth checking out if you haven't already!

Miraculous never changed and never will, change your mind.
(S5) Mr damoshit and Caline are fired
A common complain I see people do when talking about miraculous is over time things changed for the worst but I don't think so, and I wanted to talk about that today.
It's been 8 years since miraculous aired for the first time and I want you to think about what changed between season 1-5, and I bet people though of something like
(All S)Chloe and Lila are the secondary villains
(S1) a Master Of the miraculous is introduced
(S1) New Heroes
(S2) New power ups
(S2) We find out hawk moth is Gabriel agreste
(S3) Marinette is the new guardian
(S4) Hawk moth got stronger
(S4) Alya knows who ladybug is
(S4) a Master of the miraculous is introduced
(S4)Chat and ladybug had some trust issues with one another
(S4) Luka knows who ladybug and chat noir are
(S5)The love square advanced and now Adrien and Marinette are dating-
(S5) The main villain was defeated
At first sight, It seem like a lot has changed. And in a good show yes, a lot would have changed, but we are talking about miraculous. This mf list is longer then I anticipated so instead of going through each one saying why nothing changed I will talk about them together.
So let's talk about what changed with the power dynamic of miraculous, because let me tell you, the power ups, the new cool heroes, they affected literally nothing, they served for one thing and one thing only, make a cool new episode so the kiddos would want a toy of fucking rena rogue, the only thing that was going to change was Chloe and you know how that went, and master Fu is even worst, the purpose of having him be in the show was to teach Marinette, and give her new powers, how many times did he actually did that? It had come to a point where they introduced su ran to unlike master fu actually be fucking useful for once, and it was a complete failure because just like fu, he is there just to make a cool filler episode, and go back to the trash bin where it belongs, wanna know other thing that came from the trash bin? Gabriel Agreste getting stronger,he literally got two upgrades, the peacock miraculous, and the miraculous rings, and guess what, the butterfly miraculous ALREADY DID WHAT THE TWO UPGRADES DO, literally evillustrator does exactly what the goat miraculous does, and yet the show acts like these upgrades MADE GABRIEL A MANACE.
Before I flip out Astruc let's go to the relationships... Wait a second-
Anyways, Luka and Alya know who ladybug is, and it's a cool concept, there are a lot of ways this could go, Alya runs one of the most famous blogs in Paris, and she is a big detective, she could find clues which slowly lead them to monarch, but at the same time, Luka could be kept at gunpoint to make the heroes have a dilemma, risk it all saving one citizen, or protect the city. It's a cool concept, what does mlb do with it? Alya helps out Marinette to get closer to Adrien (not giving a shit if she's ladybug or not) and Luka doesn't exist... Isn't that exactly what happened in season 1-
And do I even need to say anything about the love square? 5 seasons of development for both characters, what changed? At ladynoir Chat flirts less, ladybug didn't really stop being a bitch. At marichat Marinette acted annoyed when chat was around, they became friends for one episode and a half, they wanted to fuck for two episodes and now no one knows but probably Marinette will be back at being annoyed. At ladrian we didn't really get much, and in Adrienette Adrien tries to get closer to Marinette as Marinette is unable to look at him without doing something annoying, and her friends push her into him even when she is uncomfortable, again, do I even need to say anything?
And I won't even talk about the whole sentimonster thing because just like the rest it did nothing, it didn't affect kagami it didn't affect Marinette, FUCK it didn't even affect Adrien cause he doesn't know it yet.
Actually Astruc, forget what I said.
🦜
Here is my bird, I shall now give it to you, you deserve it
And for last, the main villain was defeated, Gabriel, Adrien's dad, is gone. How did Adrien react to such it, was he mad that his father made so many suffer? Was he sad to know that it didn't matter what he did, his father would be gone, and it would be on his hands, did he feel happy for knowing that he won't have to feel the pressure his dad put on him? NOPE HE DOSENT EVEN FUCKING KNOW.
and wanna know the best part? Lila has the butterfly miraculous, she is the new monarch, is back to season one, just plain old butterfly miraculous with nothing, Emily/Amilie probably will barely appear and be just as neglectful as Gabriel, but she isn't forcing Adrien to do anything, and if you don't force your child to do something you are automatically a good parent doesn't matter if you neglect your child, BECAUSE CHLOE IS A FUCKING BRAT.
and with that I think we can all conclude that the show didn't change for the worst, it went onononionionioni without never leaving it's comfort zone.
Thank you for reading until the end, I'll see you, in the next post of me getting mad at fictional characters
Bye

A Gabenath Fanfiction: Admiration in Disguise Chapter Two

Link to Chapter One
Chapter Two
“Nooroo dark wings fall,” Gabriel intoned with a sigh, falling to his knees, his breaths coming out in labored heaves.
He had been kidding himself, for it was impractical to attempt an akumatization without Mayura by his side. Her skillset and ability to strategize was the sole component in their fight for the miraculous — without her agile mind he’d be lost.
That being said, he could not pursue his conquest with Mayura any longer. Her use of the damaged peacock miraculous was ailing her immensely and Gabriel would not have that. It pained him to watch her diminish down to a weaker and weaker state as the days strung on.
Sometimes he could make himself forget — forget that Nathalie’s days were numbered. He had to admit he often took all those moments for granted. Like all those mornings in which he could open his eyes to the warming sun, knowing Nathalie was there just as she always was, with his morning coffee in hand.
Though the dark shadows under her eyes, no matter how much she tried to obscure them with makeup or creams, blatantly stood out like a sore thumb. Gabriel wasn’t unknowing to the fact that the light in her was burning out. She was ebbing ever so slowly, like a dying star, resulting in her being frail and unnaturally thin — bones jutting out from under her flesh. Her movements alone were unsteady and her distress seemed just as tainted as the peacock miraculous itself.
Gabriel used to think he’d put nothing above Emilie — that he’d bring her back no matter the cost. And in his mind that still rang true, though where Nathalie was concerned he couldn’t fully say that applied.
“Master?” Nooroo’s small voice chirped at his side. The kwami of transmission observed his holder, his expression worried.
“Master, you should turn in for the night. It’s getting late.”
On any other given day, Gabriel would berate the kwami for attempting to divert his attention away from his goal but his exhaustion was taking over.  There was no point in akumatizing another random citizen just for Ladybug and Chat Noir to foil his plan once more. Also, to be honest, he couldn’t handle another failure — not tonight.
“I will Nooroo.  I just…I thought…” he didn’t need to finish, as his voice faded. He pulled himself to his feet, his knees buckling out from under him.
“Master, I’m sure Miss Nathalie and Adrien are already in bed by now and you should be too.”
Gabriel sighed. He was fairly certain that Nathalie was nowhere near even half asleep — probably staying up working on random documents that weren’t due until weeks in advance.
“Nooroo?” Gabriel breathed, his eyes drawn to the bright orb of the moon looming outside the circular pane. “Do  you ever wonder if we are doing the right thing?”
Nooroo paused, his eyes shifting, “Well…do you think you are doing the right thing Master?”
Gabriel grimaced … considering — his mouth curving into a firm line. He wasn’t one to carry doubts. When he made a decision he was committed to all its aspects and consequences.
Even so, his goal came with a damning price — a price he was not willing to pay. Nathalie had to endure the same circumstances as Emilie once had, which in turn meant she was destined to suffer the same fate as well.
Just the mere notion of such a thing made his heart pick up. He couldn’t sacrifice one dearest person for another. Emilie was his wife, his love for her was infinite, but Nathalie kindled something inside him — something that held familiarity and yet made his middle foil with an ever present sense of vulnerability.
He thought it foolish to call it love, for such a term seemed outdated and inadequate compared to the emotions that uprooted in his chest — emotions that had been so dormant in his life, yet he had managed to find them rekindling again with his very own assistant. They were frightening sentiments, sure but they were just as real as any other.
Nathalie had stood by him through his highs and lows and even through all the madness that he himself created. She indulged it all, without a second thought.
“I don’t know what to think anymore Nooroo. Things have become…complicated.”
Nooroo whimpered, disheartened, his little wings flapping at a fast patter behind him. Gabriel didn’t pay the kwami any mind, still lost in his own musings, until Nooroo spoke up again.
“Is that because of Miss Nathalie?”
Gabriel pursed his lips, looking as though he’d bit straight into the center of a lemon. He scowled at Nooroo, his gaze sour.
“What are you trying to get at, Nooroo?” Gabriel questioned stiffly. Nooroo bowed his head, as if flustered, his gaze unfocused. Gabriel felt a fiery warmth sear down his front at Nooroo’s superstitious attitude. He deepened his scowl, his eyes piercing through Nooroo’s small frame.
Nooroo began murmuring plaintively, mumbling incoherently. Gabriel huffed, “Speak up!” he demanded, his tone like gravel.
“I–I just mean…you seem to care a lot for her, Master—”
Gabriel scoffed, “of course I do!” he snapped.
Nooroo flinched, “I just…I just feel she cares for you too, Master. Deeply.”
Gabriel’s muscles loosened as he bit his lip in contemplation. Nathalie’s willingness to aid him was enough to show that he did in fact matter to her. Although, he figured her devotion was due only to their long term history of friendship rather than anything conspicuous. Nathalie’s boundaries with him were firmily set, if her use of traditional formalities such as, “sir,” or “Mr. Agreste,” were anything to go off of.
“You fear losing her, don’t you Master?”
Gabriel tensed, Nooroo’s words like shards of glass stinging at his heart.
“Yes,” he admitted thickly.
He’d never be able to blank out those sleepless nights — his mind replaying those sparse moments in which he truly believed he had lost Nathalie forever. It had been a Monday, like any other — she had brought him his morning coffee, took Adrien to school and assisted him in whatever tasks he had needed her to attend to. All was as it had always been.
That is until the instant in which she had collapsed to the floor of his office, a shallow echo of what had happened to Emilie. Nathalie had been unresponsive and had color draining from her face, her body had been cooling at a rapid pace, as her eyelids drooped to a close.
Since that day Gabriel had forbidden her from any use of the miraculous, for he never wanted to feel the agony of nearly losing her again. That fear of loss made him realize that Nathalie took up a much bigger part of him — more than he had ever bargained for.
Nooroo rose up to meet Gabriel’s eye, his demeanor carrying a more hopeful tinge.
“You love her, Master. Right?” He teetered.
Gabriel felt a vise tighten around his middle at Nooroo’s words. Hearing another say the sentiment aloud made his mind turn to a complicated sludge. He could feel the launch of a scolding on the tip of his tongue but he fought to refrain because for once he couldn’t disagree. His feelings for Nathalie were more than what they appeared.
But he digressed because even if he couldn’t do anything with his feelings, other than repress them. Nathalie’s feelings still were unknown to him and he did not dare try to unearth them, despite the circumstances.
“I do,” Gabriel affirmed with a nod.
He’d only said those words once before, the time he’d spoken those two syllables to his wife at the altar. He never thought he’d ever utter them again.
Gabriel sighed, his lungs saturating with air, “It does not matter my feelings Nooroo. She does not share the same sentiments.”
Nooroo squeaked, piping up, “That might not be the case Master!” He began, his little body practically emanating enthusiasm, “Miss Nathalie has very deep complex emotions that she’s been—”
Gabriel snapped his fingers and Nooroo was again silent. He didn’t need to hear the kwami’s foolish ideals. Sure, Nooroo could sniff out intricate emotions that were buried deep in the depths of people, however that did not guarantee that such emotions rang true in Nathalie’s heart and he did not need the pointless mirage of hope.
Unspoken emotions and silent glances were not going to change the nature of their relationship. Their dynamic was a waltz he’d grown accustomed to, no matter how many more steps he’d like to add.
At least he was able to come to acceptance, embracing all that Nathalie had to offer would be enough,  Even if that only entailed friendship, loyalty and professionalism.
But most of all, the least he could do for her was put her first.
A/N: Thanks for reading! I hope you all enjoyed the second installment of Admiration in Disguise! Chapter Three is already in the works, so stay tuned! Also if you have any more Gabenath fanfic requests let me know and I'll get to them as soon as possible!

If Molly is as short as his silhouette appears, then the wall pin in the sewers is even funnier tbh. Remind me of those viral Japanese memes of people recreating the kabedon in ridiculous ways. Like having a really short person do it. 🤣
Yes!! I love their height difference it's just so fun to me. I've just always headcannoned Molly as being shorter for some reason so seeing his little silhouette makes me happy. Even with the added height of Molly's horns, he's still shorter than Caleb, I can't get over it.
Please imagine Tealeaf being this small when Molly leans up to give Caleb a tender kiss on the forehead, helps Beau carry him back out into the sun. Or Caleb calling Lucien a good boy. Molly holding onto Caleb when he's still bloodied and exhausted, helping him walk while his Magician gives him a fond little pat on the cheek and says, "The only magical thing here is you, friend."
Tumblr media
And man, that one moment...I'm so curious to see how they play the sewers scene, because it is this instance when Molly deliberately gets up close in Caleb's face, gives him a little warning about hiding loot from the group. Caleb doesn't look up at him, doesn't say anything at all in response. I remember it was interesting to hear Liam and Taliesin talk about that scene after; they both referred to it as being one of their favorite moments of the campaign at the time.
And I'm pretty sure Tal said that Molly thought Caleb concealing coin was something he could "just fix" with their little talk. Like how he tells Nott not to steal from them, or tries to convince her that she and Caleb need to trust the rest of the party more. It's this moment where he and Caleb are at odds, where Caleb maybe resents Molly a little for it. But. We also have all these moments like the forehead kiss, Molly helping Caleb to his feet when he's injured, Molly gently telling him, "Mr. Caleb. There's only so many burdens we can bear, before we're asking for failure."
Mollymauk is someone who often seems to think he knows what's best for someone, and he'll tell them so. But I think it's also a character flaw that stems from a place of care. The sewers incident might be petty, but then there are moments when he sees a glimpse of just how self-destructive Caleb can be--and you can see Mollymauk just hates having to watch it. Molly telling Nott, "So do you think it would be a good idea to explain to him that he almost got himself killed tonight? Turning on a bunch of people he was working with, he almost got himself killed tonight. For nothing."
I really wonder how the scene would translate to animated nein, especially since everything is so condensed for time. Would they keep Molly more teasing and playful? Or would it focus on Caleb's perspective, and come off as more intimidating? Would we get little glimpses of Caleb's conflicting feelings on the Circus Man--charming, but at times abrasive? Caleb being so closed off and hiding away, not knowing how to react to such an outgoing, affectionate peacock. Being bitter after their encounter in the sewers. Thinking back fondly on a warm forehead kiss and gentle words.
I'm just so excited to see them both interact again, I really hope we get enough time with Molly to really explore their dynamic ;; More than anything, I'd love to see some implication of the moment when Molly started thinking of his Magician as, "softness and light--"

The one factor that stresses me the most right now in @buggachat Bakery enemies Au as of pannel 141
Tumblr media
Is the fact that Marinette has ALL the power here to ruin Adriens life all over again and it wouldn't even matter if he were innocent or not. We have seen all through the comic that the citizens of Paris are hold massive prejudice against Adrien simply for being Gabriels SON. Not because Adrien did anything wrong himself.
To the point where Marinette feared it would be too dangerous for a drunken Adrien to walk home alone at night. To the point where she quickly changed places with him while they worked in the bakery because people immediately leave the shop in fear or ask why the hell he is allowed in a wine tasting restaurant.
Yes, Marinette HAS good reasons to believe what she thinks and be caught up in her head. She's absolutely not going off of nothing.
But one WORD from Marinette here to the police, to the citizens of Paris, and repeating the reasoning she stated with Adrien himself, and Adriens life is OVER. AGAIN! How understandable her mistake is will unfortunately end up paling into transparenty if Adrien actually ends up facing the brutal consequences of this because the situation is inherently inbalanced regarding its fairness.
Marinette is sleep-deprived of several days and is thinking herself half into madness and if this causes MARINETTE to call the police on ADRIEN, or people are standing outside of the bakery by now and Marinette and Adrien just didn't noticed it and she ends up "outing him" to THEM... then guess what domino effect will occur??
Marinette here is not just accusing an innocent person right now, she is doing that to Hawkmoths son who is STILL on thin ice with Paris despite never having caused any of the harm himself. Or having KNOWN about his father at all.
Right now Marinettes accusations and threats may still be within their little bubble of two people, but this very bubble has already started bursting several pages ago. Literally with Marinette smashing the pastries.
Because put into perspective how this will look. There is a Gala in honor of Ladybug and Chat Noir and coincidentally the bakery Adrien AGRESTE works in is asked to provide the food, but then one day before the event the food is ruined (which he was the only person WORKING on) which will hurt the gala. And then people will start asking what happened. And what if these two will NOT now end up with a reveal or another better outcome from this?
When Adrien thinks Marinette found out he's Chat Noir and that she's hating him for THAT? And he just does what he always does and buries everything inside which will lead this situation to NOT be resolved quickly.
Marinettes threat off calling the police and him ending in jail with his father is NOT some far-fetched outcome. She HAS that power on her fingertips and concidering that she gave him TWO options last page: Admitting his crime so he can reform himself or end up in jail with his father, it's now written to be a possible path of the story if Buggachat wants to torture us further (wouldn't call it unrealistic, it would fit the nature of the story and all the set up in general)
Adrien does NOT know that Marinette is talking about the peacock miraculous, he now thinks she means him being Chat Noir, and undoubtedly Adrien is still fighting with alot of guilt regarding having been Chat Noir and not having known about his father being Hawkmothb (which hasn't been properly explored yet). This right now could end with Adrien thinking that Marinette means that Adrien should reveal to the world that he was Chat Noir and stand accountable for his "failure" .
And THATS something I don't think Adrien can do right now. Rising back up and standing against the accusations that he is LIKE his father, and that he KNEW and helped him is one thing. There is an emotional disconnection regarding the guilt he is battling with.
But his guilt regarding that he has BEEN Chat Noir? Him thinking he deserves punishment for THAT but has been able to run away from these fears thanks to his anonymous identity as hero? That's something entirely else.
I can so easily see Adrien choosing prison now out of deep rooted guilt. The same guilt that still had him go visit Gabriel all this time.
And then? Will the police take him away in full public for all the world to see? How much will it end up mattering when they test the pastries for poison and find nothing? Adrien could only remain at the police station for like 2 days and be found 100% guilty and the damage being done to his life would be irreparable! That's something he could never ever escape from again, unless he reveals to EVERYONE that he was Chat Noir (which btw is how I think this has to end. Both Marinette and Adrien will be known by everyone to be Ladybug and Chat Noir because Nathalie is still who knows where with the peacock miraculous! And for that they need HELP)
THAT'S what I'm stressed out about. Not who is right and whose wrong (although that too)
Arrgh, this AU is so GOOD! Thank you buggachat! :D
