I love the hatchling post so much because it shows a lot of who they all are at their core!

The fact that Robin's performance gets worse ONLY around Dawn after this incident shows something important about them. Their confidence is a very important part in how they work. Because they ARE good. Their enthusiasm, even if it might sometimes get in the way, is also a huge motivator to be better, to get the job done. When Dawn crushes that? with something that sounds like 'I really do not wish to be around you and if I could I would never be again'? Well ouch! Are they that bad at their job? How much of what they do and what they ARE is putting him off so much? So now being around him feels like being tested and judged constantly. Instead of having a senior agent that is neutral about them, and someone to learn from and hopefully impress, they now feel like a bother, maybe that their usual self is just not good enough or at all and that they should triple check everything they do. Unfortunately, self doubt is the killer of Robin’s performance and they themself probably notice they’re doing even worse, worsening the feeling. 

I find it interesting that they can just reject the partnered missions with Dawn, and the fact that he then is being partnered with someone new each time, tells me Dawn’s reputation built over time has isolated him as well, even if he thinks that’s what he wants. Apparently agents won’t be forced to work with him at all. Which I can see him using to justify his position as star agent, but he probably can’t be blind to the fact that people do NOT want to work with him. And then being reminded of that after he just pushed away the person that did want to? That probably hurts a lot. (Combined with the fact that the only factor affecting Robin’s performance was him. For once, he didn’t know better. His approach wasn’t the appropriate one. He caused the problem). Now he realizes Robin was looking at him both as a professional and an actual person. They wanted to understand him! And they did! (or at least enough for him to notice and to miss)

Robin accepting to forgive him just makes my heart ache <3 They really are the ray of sunshine here, ironically haha! Though it does seem to me some of that doubt would probably remain. “I’ll be annoying” even if lighthearted, already says they’re self-conscious of how he regards him. (Though it helps that Dawn said he’d rather that than not have them at all) With time it will probably ease up, though a couple occasions may come up when they withdraw again. This is Robin after all XD (But they are also so strong because they keep bouncing back and I love them for it!)

And then with Dusk! His missions in infiltration were already probably very solitary and while he does take pride in his skill, he is not as preoccupied with his dignity as Dawn is. He wants to do his job right and this rookie is throwing him off his rhythm with their carelessness. Don’t know how he gets them to stop from walking in front of that camera in time. Maybe he yanks them back a bit harshly and then delivers the line. And then regrets it. He dislikes stuffy atmospheres, and perhaps he hadn’t realized how much he enjoyed Robin not trying to be a stuck up agent and instead being passionate about it all. He is passionate about it as well, if he wasn’t he wouldn’t be as competitive in canon AU as he is. But now he just turned into the stuck up one and in his attempt to show it he scared them. And in this version, Robin is probably not that used to violent missions as the objective is to avoid hostiles as they sneak around, so the show of intimidation must have left a deep impression. Understanding ‘I won’t have you getting in the way of the mission either!’

And he now hates that they’re scared of him! We know he’s not a social butterfly like Sun used to be. So he is awkward with people and even if he wanted to reach out in the past, his increasing reputation as a nocturnal agent with red eyes and sharp teeth probably put many people off. He might not be too social, but clearly he does not enjoy the absolute loneliness either. He doesn’t want to be perceived as senselessly violent, he’s not a monster! It didn’t matter that much with other coworkers that didn’t make an attempt to know him or judged him preemptively, but with the one that did? The one who was pushed away by his own words and actions? Oof. He’s the shy one after all. It doesn’t feel good to be regarded like that when previously it was mostly admiration. No wonder he’s the one apologizing directly

And I see him!! Stealing that hair tie just to try to guarantee they do want to come back! Hair ties are easy to find and buy. If Robin does come to the mission asking for it, it means something alright! (which they do, of course they do). “Try to get it back” too! Giving them permission to come close. Inviting them to do so. Come and play! (and there’s the analogy of two dogs leaning down playfully haha. I’m sorry I growled. We can play fight if you want).

Okay!! Let's go!!

Robin is very particular about their job, sure - but as you say, their enthusiasm is a vital part of their work ethic. It's something they don't lose even as senior agent! They still do their cool stunts they still keep novelty gadgets they still have fun. All on their own, but it's fun! Hatchling Robin may seem like a reckless newbie, but their ideas work. They aren't set in their ways like Dawn, who thinks his way IS the highway, and while that annoys him he later sees that underneath the "hehe spy movie" attitude is a mind that can think outside the box, and does so well!

But when he takes that from them? When he makes them feel bad for having fun, and trying to learn from him, too? They hesitate, they zone out, they question themself and end up making more and more mistakes. It's easier to push the rejection away when they aren't around him, and so they start working alone. Unlike the other agents who refuse to work with Dawn again after one mission, they don't outright state that it's simply a bad match, and find excuses - a different mission, oh, sorry, simply so preoccupied with paperwork, something personal came up very sorry - the higher ups squint at them, but it's also not hard to figure out why the newbie might not want to work with the guy literally scaring away half the work force already. Because that's what the other agents do - "Yeah the guy's a pro, but he's not cooperative, which is vital to this mission. There's no way to help when he won't let us, and frankly, it's best to let him work alone then". Those agents know Dawn is the problem - Robin is too scared to admit that they might be.

Robin was about to make a very valid point of "Look, we worked this mission together, and instead of writing separate reports, why don't we work together on that too?" and he shot it down with a haughty "Oh you think we're friends?" He's 100% the presumptuous asshole in this scenario, and he realizes it, too. He got so used to proving himself as right that he forgot that someone else being right doesn't make him wrong, and as always his confidence hinges on his (perceived) productivity. So realizing he actually shot down the one person who helped him improve (because hey, who would've thought - considering more options helps you broaden your horizon sometimes! shocker!) by simply having a pair of fresh eyes? Maybe their technique is unorthodox, but he can't argue with results. They saw him for him, they understood how he works, they helped him loosen up a little, and then he misses all that.

So he's awkward, and doesn't really apologize (he will, many, many times in the future) but he admits to a mistake which... Is still kind of big for him, ngl. And Robin sees that, and his weird attempts to get them to care for themself, presented with unwavering (faked) confidence, and well. Maybe Robin is a bit morosexual after all LMAO because they pretty much go "Oh he's a fool then, I'm intrigued." They do bounce back quickly, partly because, well... They don't know what else to do. They don't really have many options - and they kind of hope that with this first step, there will be more to follow, and maybe he'll actually grow to like them some day! And then he will be sorry for hurting them, and he really won't mind their antics anymore! (They're right, but they cling to their optimism rather desperately anyhow)

And yeah! For Dusk I pretty much imagined that - Robin prattling on about something, missing his warning - and so he yanks them back and immediately tears into them for being careless. If they can't take him seriously, he'll show them that he is the senior agent for a reason - and only ends up scaring them. And oh, ouch - that is not what he wants at all.

Because you're right! He's a menace, competitive and playful, it just got stomped out of him by solitary missions and years of the same people not acknowledging his skill. There's no playful Moon, because who would he play with? The only outlet he still has is his stupid gimmick and that involves actively threatening people, so when that instinctively also slips out? Unfortunately, entirely wrong target group. And he doesn't know how to fix it either, during the mission, because they do have to focus and they're careful now so...

But then they continue to be like that, and then even worse, they just stop showing up at all. And he realizes he's been affected more than he thought, engaging more than he thought, because he's distracted and starts fumbling during missions now. All while Robin jumps and rushes to avoid him any time they spot him at HQ, and suddenly all the talent that was directed towards keeping up with him is used to get away from him, and he hates it. He hates it so, so much, so he doesn't wait long to apologize.

He's so awkward, but he's also lonely - so he kind of gets it. Sun and Eclipse are the only other people he gets along with and now he has to realize that there was someone who actually brought fun into his life and he pushed them away, so he needs to fix it. He got too used to the assumptions of other people that he misjudged Robin, and he'll admit to that, if kind of stiffly. It already sends a message that he shows up with normal eyes, normal teeth (both a look he barely sports at work) and making himself actively smaller while hiding the hands that scared them before? Actions over words, just a bit, and Robin sees that gesture for what it is. Once again "Oh he's a fool, I'm intrigued."

And the dog analogy!! Yeah!! Robin did the equivalent of a yelp, so he crouches low and stops playing to check up on them, to see the hurt and to make sure they know he didn't mean to! The playtime can resume, if a little more carefully, but that's alright! They now have clearer boundaries, and Dusk invited them with the weakest bait (to still give them that out if they want it, just in case), and it works. I kind of want to imagine that they carry a spare hairtie with them during the next mission, but initially show up with open hair - catching him off guard long enough to pounce snatch it back out of his pocket before retying it with a satisfied grin. Equivalent awe moment to senior agent Robin taking off their gloves for parkour and making him look a totally normal amount <3

Temeraire body horror magic AU you say? 👀👀👀

oooh that one's fun 😆 it sort of grew out of the whole thing where the corps keeps a lot of secrets, some of them more guarded than others. I was wanting to do some magic stuff anyway and was like, what if there was something else thats both extra secret and another reason that aviators don't mix with polite society.

this is also one of the ideas on the list that I actually managed to write a tiny bit for:

"Pray," Laurence said, faltering. He mastered himself and finished in a sharper tone than was appropriate, "explain your meaning." Harcourt and Berkley both blinked at him in silence a moment before Harcourt exclaimed, "Oh, I knew we'd forgotten something!" Having posed the question once, Laurence couldn't very well demand answers again, but luckily Berkley had mercy. Sounding a little strange, he said, "See, having a beast...it rather changes a fellow. More than ah, having a boat in the navy might." Seeing the look on Laurence's face at his calling ships of the line boats and misreading its cause, Berkley rushed on to say. "Not that promotion in other services don't bring changes, mind, only—" Harcourt came to his rescue. "Only, it's rather more literal, with a dragon." And so saying, she loosened her neckcloth, and entirely insensible to Laurence's startled protest tugged her collar open to show him a neat line of bright orange scales running along her collarbone.

the fridge body horror part is that it's a somewhat unpredictable and progressive condition. Aviators tend to die young so for most captains it's not really a problem to have a patch of scales here and there or a sharp tooth or two. Kind of a badge of honor actually. But ah, aviators who live long enough to retire tend to gain reputations as recluses for...reasons.

there's not a lot going on thats overtly magical outside of that but I've got another idea for an AU thats like, "magic is a Known Thing thats illegal for most people but the corps has a dispensation since dragons won't hatch without a sufficient quantity of magic around and the options are either let a bunch of other dragons take the eggs to magical locations (not so great for being able to harness the hatchling) or let the potential captains dabble in magic." That AU may fizzle out or combine with this one or split off into its own thing, I haven't decided yet.

a tree for my wraith/nightfury family :> some notes under the cut!

a small flock from a huge island pretty far south from berk! the night fury side of the family were migrating when Canyon met Burn, the titan-wing leader of the resident wraiths, and decided to stay. the furies stayed for years until circumstances drove them to leave for their safety. Burn, Sandstone and the wraith flock decided to stay and fight instead. eventually all that was left was Dune and Odd, who became incredibly hostile to humans after many, many bad experiences.

misc notes off the top of my head:

odd (known as gritt by anyone not their family/very close friends) is adopted obviously. sandstone and blister found them alone in a boat as a toddler and decided to adopt them, since they lost their first hatchling (moon) not long before

all names and pronouns are from odds perspective, as best as they could translate into something a human can understand!

canyon and limestone are from a night fury colony that lived in a rocky expanse somewhere far away, hence the rocky names for their side of the family

i do like the idea of what everyone thought the light fury was at first (an aquatic night fury), so pearl is a branch off night fury thats more suited to water (not much is different about them, just smoother, mildly sparkly and with one long fin down the body instead of spines. still in the early stages of full branch evo :>)

if you look closely you can see pest has eyebrow markings, which they got from pebble, who got it from their grandparent (not shown). rest assured any kids Pest has at some point will have eyebrows too lol

i am going to talk about oc pokemon au and you cant stop me :] (or, alternatively, if you're spark, it just me reiterating it with proper wording LOL)

Orbit is a knowledgable figure, unsure if I want him to be a professor or not, but he's also someone who's going to be important in the balance of quality of life in both humans and pokemon in his town, ensuring that the people do not disturb the natural habitat, and that the townsfolk be able to live a good life within the town. Ike was / is Orbit's partner in this endeavor, but went missing (presumed dead) for a year or two while he was out on a diplomatic trip out of the region; The two eventually reunite, not to worry.

Alon and Lupa are field researchers that work with/under Orbit. Alon in particular used to be a gym leader of the region in his younger years, but decided to retire a full year before he and Lupa got married, wanting to focus on his family and trying to get away from the public eye. He and his husband mostly help with nurturing hatchlings nowadays, but occasionally do the fieldwork for their job, as well as personal outings with personal agendas, of course.

Lupa has always been so passionate about pokemon and their behavior, seeking to understand them more. He wandered around various regions, becoming champion once and never again, despising the unwarranted fame his younger self did not want. He also met Alon during his travels, starting out at the wrong foot but quickly becoming fast friends, with Alon freely offering Lupa his kindness and hospitability. Despite all that, he still challenges gyms for the sake of it even now!

AND NOW FOR THE PROTAGS

The story follows Mela, Orbit's daughter, wanting to be as accomplished as her father, and setting out to her own journey. She's accompanied by Akku, who is Alon and Lupa's son, and his boyfriend, Hiraya, who was often under Orbit's watch due to his parents often being called for their duties as Elites.

As the trio's journey goes on, they all end up in a rather far away snowfields; and Mela eventually meets a man who looks rather familiar... but can't quite place her finger as to who exactly it is. She wants to find out though, stubborn as she always is to get things right. It's weird though, because it seems like Hiraya's seen a ghost, but he just won't say.

In the end of this arc, Mela meets the lake spirits, and they help her remember who that man was to her. Is to her. Ike, her dad, who's been missing and apparently, just as confused as her, because neither of them remember each other etc etc.

AUUGHUAHU

IT ALL VERY . MESSY and unclear and i might renew a lot of this bc i havent thought about all it yet. the basic summary was this:

Story following though 3 childhood friends journeys, Mela being the main protag ??? wanting to be like her dad ??? Accidentally finding her other, long missing father in the process??? ENSUE TEAM ROCKET LIKE EVENTS AND SHIT GOES DOOOOOWN

Akku and Hiraya just there for silly goofy shenanigans and support. (Akku wanting to explore like his parents did, and Hiraya not having much to do anyway, being the current youngest and not having much direction in his life???? idkkk HAHA but he and akku share the same passion w/ loving pokemon, akku just wants to see if he can run though badges in the process)

anyway yah feel free to plonk your opinions on this, i obviously have a lot to research, like the lake spirits, and which pokemon can temporarily take away your bad memories and help return it when you have to face it (first thought was gothitelle??) or if i can make up a process wherein a venusaur knowing amnesia -> imbued that power in its spores/pollen to help ease sadness that its trainer is experiencing and how thats kind but also kind of. oof move on the venusaur. etc etc. idk HAHAHHA

How is the morro situation handled considering... well... everything?

Good question!

So the Morro stuff in the past goes fairly similarly to cannon. He was a homeless kid that Wu found scavenging for food in the garbage cans outside of the Monastery. At that point, Wu hadn't fully succumbed to the Venom, but due to Misako and Garmadon recently becoming a couple he wasn't doing very well.

Morro, like Kai and Nya, is distantly descended from Wojira, and bc of that he's partly dragon. This subconsciously brings out some of Wu's draconic instincts to protect the abandoned hatchling, and leads to Morro trusting Wu almost immediately.

Like in cannon, Wu takes Morro in, and starts training him once he discovers Morro is the Elemental Master of Wind. And this actually starts to help Wu cope with the Venom better than anything had, like how in cannon the one thing Garmadon was able to hold on to when the Venom overwhelmed him was how much he loved Lloyd.

But, there's one big difference from cannon; Wu does everything he can to hide the Green Ninja Prophecy from Morro. He see's how strong Morro is at such a young age, and feels like he could possibly be the Green Ninja. But that would mean that Morro, whom Wu has come to see as his own child, is destined to fight and defeat Wu. He refuses to let that happen.

Unfortunately, Wu can't control everything.

Morro discovers the Prophecy on accident, and wonders if Wu has been training him to be the Green Ninja. But when he asks about it, it triggers an episode with the Venom; the first one he had since adopting Morro.

Wu loses it and terrifies Morro. He runs away, and blames himself. He doesn't know about the Venom, and thinks Wu got so upset bc Morro wasn't nearly good enough to be the Green Ninja and him even thinking he was a potential GN was an insult. So the boy figures if he can do something big and grand and impressive, he would prove to Wu that he isn't a waste of time and space.

Something like finding the Tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master.

Meanwhile, once Wu's Venom fueled episode dies down and he realizes what he just did, he is distraught. He searches for Morro, swallowing his anger and feelings of betrayal to ask Garmadon and Misako for help. But Morro is never found.

He still dies in the Caves of Despair, and his ghost is still stuck in the Cursed Realm.

Fast forward, and Morro gets out of the Curse Realm. Wu has been defeated, as has Chen, and Morro heads to the Museum to start his part of the Preeminent's plan to Curse all 16 Realms.

Which is where we get to the part where things can go a few different ways.

At this point, all of our main characters will have found out that Lloyd is the actual Green Ninja, not Kai. But that isn't publicly known; I haven't decided if the public definitely knows Kai isn't actually the GN, since everyone knows the truth about Wu now, but at the very least people suspect that Kai isn't actually the Prophesied Green Ninja.

((There's actually quite a few people who think Garmadon is the Green Ninja since he defeated Wu, but thats stuff for a different post))

Either way, Kai is still wearing the Green Gi and doing anything that can be considered 'Greed Ninja Duties'. He's not doing it bc he wants to hold onto the title though; Lloyd doesn't get hit with Tommorows Tea, so he's still only like, 11. After learning the truth, Kai kinda hates being the Green Ninja, but he'll chew off one of his own limbs before letting the Green Ninja Prophecy steal someone else's childhood.

So Kai gets possesed. And things quickly get messy.

Morro and Kai have a lot of similarities in cannon; in VT, those similarities get ramped up to 11. They see each others memories of being raised by Wu, and they both get angry. They also start to empathize with each other greatly, and where Kai ends and Morro starts gets blurred. They quickly get to the point where They throw the Preeminent's plan out the window in favor of a new plan.

Find Wu and make him pay for what he did to Them.

It's easy to brush off the other ghost's concerns; no-one knows what happened to the FSM's staff after Wu traded it out for the Mega Weapon except for Wu, so going after him is the easiest way forward.

Unfortunately for Them, Wu was briefly transformed into an Anacondrai with Chen and the rest of his followers, and his cell wasn't built to hold an Anacondrai, so he used the opportunity to escape from Kryptarium, and hasn't been seen since.

I haven't decided on if Morro sticks around as a member of the main cast after everything is over, and what the full consequences of him possessing Kai are. But he does get a full redemption arc, even if he won't survive it.

ok so ive had this outer wilds playlist i made sitting there for a while and wanna share it but i feel compelled to explain every song so here i go- might add more to this if i find anything that fits but this is all for now :)

island song- i like to think about this as sort of hal and hatchling's friendship when they were kids

everything stays- this one is very solanum and the rest of the nomai- something about the way so many nomai settlements changed through time but also didnt, in a way theyre still the same as they were all those years ago just frozen in time

echoes of the eye, travelers encore, last dream of home, outer wilds reprise- these are just outer wilds songs i like

still feel- very much hatchling at the beginning of the time loop to me- the thrill of dying but still being alive. searching for answers with reckless abandon and excitement

ends of the earth- this one makes me think about hatchling trying to get gabbro to go with them around the solar system and reciprocate that desire for discovery and exploration

until the night turns- literally a song about the world ending.. i think thats all this is to me djfnsjfn

frozen pines- reminds me a lot of the hearthians and their relation to the nomai + some bits that make me think of the time loop in there

way out there- this is mostly just hatchling in the time loop to me

no matter what- i feel kinda silly putting an su song in here but whatever. you can think of this as hatchling and gabbro, or if you wanna be sad it can be hal and hatchling before the time loop :)

somewhere out there- this one makes me think a lot about the nomai's search for the eye + the hearthians relation to it and how hatchling got to the eye because of the nomai

twenty long years- VERY hatchling in the time loop- the way its presented also makes me think of it from an everyone lives au perspective and how the time loop affected them, its also got some campfire song vibes so i like to think of it as something hatchling could sing too :)

the stranger- EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS ONE IS JUST PERFECT FOR THE STRANGERS!!!! the LYRICS the NAME its sooooo outer wilds dlc, its also like the last one in making me think about it as a song hatchling could sing and as something written from their point of view

the night we met- this ones just kinda a little love song i like to apply to ships, my go to for this one is usually thinking about the time buddies singing together and also to make it sadder- them singing together to distract from the fact that one of them is dying before the loop ends, in those scenarios i usually think about it as a hearthian folk song that they both just know the lyrics to

87. 20 Something – SZA

“he’s a child,” eda says, because she can’t deny it anymore, that the little creature she thought was some sort of odd dog that talks and mimics her and watches her with wide eyes—of course he’s a kid. how could he be anything else?

beside her, the owl beast squawks something, loud in the way it tends to be. king, on the couch, repeats the shriek right back, and the owl beast huffs at him, tossing her head.

“oh, hush,” eda tells it, moving to nudge king. “c’mon, buddy.”

his eyes light up when she sits next to him and he throws himself into her lap, practically purring. he can only say a few words, but one of those is her name, and he chirps it at her, “eda! eda!”

“yeah,” eda mutters. “that’s me, alright.”

on her own, not even a palisman to her name. just some dumb owl monster that doesn’t know when it isn’t wanted, that curls up at the foot of the couch, croons when king reaches out to play with the feathers on her wings.

“i can’t deal with a kid,” eda tells herself, and doesn’t let king go.

EDA AND KING WHOOOOOOOOO!!! i still think its so funny that eda thinks her son is the dog at first. kings an entire titan. literally the son of the very land she lives on. and shes like 'damn. weird ass dog huh.'

anyways! not sure why i wrote this one...coulda been back when i was in the 19-20 episode range since theres a good amount of eda&king scenes there, and besides i think i wanted to kinda write a lil bit of how eda might've been when she first found king! bc its pretty fun in how its different from the show!

like, for one, the owl beast has known king was a kid (well. she'd use hatchling) from the start! it was EDA who got hit in the face with that, firefly has just accepted king as her new son and is mainly just annoyed she has to co-parent with eda. like sharing a nest with her was bad enough.

not much else to say about this one tho. actually fun fact: baby titans are little ducklings. since for so long the only living creatures WERE titans, baby titans imprint on the first source of dust they see! usually thats their parent titan, but in the case of king he wouldve imprinted on eda + firefly since before that he lived in an abandoned ruin and he was the only person around for miles.

I'll do you one better though. Because it's been a while, and back then we only had main and reverse, I resisted adding the reverse boys. Preferences stay the same across all timelines, yes, but the reactions differ.

We got a few more timelines by now (:

Reverse: So the ask was about dressing up in particular, which means unfortunately for Dawn he perishes every mission. He gets used to it, he thinks, but he can't do anything he would like to do. Compliments fall on deaf, or worse, unbelieving ears, and he still has to keep it together well enough to not get distracted from the mission. Reverse Robin has a lot more fancy outfits due to their undercover focus, so he regularly gets smacked with something he hasn't seen yet and dies anew. Later in the timeline he tries more and more to subtly match them, to have complementing colors (fortunately for him, red and green are complementing colors) in their outfits, all without Robin calling him out on it or actively counteracting it out of pride.

Moon on the other hand just assumes they have a formal dress code at work, whatever that work is - but it doesn't make things easier for his metaphorical heart. He's more the comfortable type, and not being floored by the novelty he's more thinking along the lines of "I wonder if they ever wear something comfortable." The closest he gets is when they come home late, tie loosened and sleeves rolled up, with their jacket slung over their arm, tired from the long day. Suddenly Moon is having second thoughts about formal clothing because apparently it's unbelievably hot when they're not worn as intended. (Or maybe it's the prospect of getting them out of the uncomfortable clothes and into something more comfortable, but that's nothing he should be thinking about the nice neighbor/ landlord)

And because this time I will not bridle my insanity:

Hatchling: Main: Sun again catches glimpses only - but they shoot his yearning and perceived martyrdom into the stratosphere. Wailing and hitting the floor (metaphorically, emotionally) that that stupid coworker who doesn't even pay attention to them gets to see them like that, while he, who would appreciate their effort, barely gets to see or even interact with them. That's not fair! Y/N is more likely to be the one cracking a joke there - maybe even actually pointing towards his suit, joking about how maybe they could sneak him into whatever event, to have a friend there. Sun perishes, but agrees it would be a nice hypothetical, alas...

Dusk, if not for the fact that he's an animatronic, would choke on nothing (or anything) upon seeing a dressed up Robin. Whether for a work event or a rare nightly undercover mission, he suddenly finds it very hard to concentrate. He doesn't care much for suits himself, but after being very aware of the effect they have on him, a small part of him wonders if he maybe has that same effect on them, too. He squashes the thought quickly though, sticking to a quiet, and probably generic compliment - but only because internally, he's screaming with no outlet for it.

Reverse: Dawn is a peacock and an asshole, and tries very hard to find flaws in Robin's outfits. They strive for the classic secret agent look, with mostly traditional black suits and maybe a very dark green tie, just for a little color. But subtle. With time, Dawn realizes something else, however. If he mentions collar or lapel pins as dashing accessory, a few weeks later Robin will wear some. If he makes an appreciative comment on someone's loafers, a while later Robin will wear similar ones. However, especially with the flashier changes, only once. After the snap and apology, while Dawn is already finding all the mistakes he made, he starts having an idea why. He starts complimenting their suits, acknowledging changes they make, instead of just pointing out what he thinks is inadequate. And lo and behold, they start getting more confident, wearing the pins again and colorful shirts, and Dawn starts genuinely showing them off now that he stops being tsundere about it

Moon is mad. In the "don't talk me I'm angy" way. So not only does the nice, if a bit overly friendly, neighbor have one of those sucky jobs where you have to dress up every single day, but he knows about the coworker they have to deal with, who made them cry - and he stops caring about fancy outfits entirely, because he's already full out daydreaming about kidnapping them to stuff them into pajamas and roll them up in a blanket instead. He doesn't stop himself from thinking about it, because he already thinks he's never gonna get closer to them, so what's the harm? Thinks their effort is wasted and would rather see them truly comfortable for once, but that forever remains in the realm of wishful thinking (or so he thinks)

Dynamic Swap: (My guys the work besties here are basically just Dusk and Dawn from "Promise the Sun and The Moon" they're THAT bad) Main: Sun thinks he's so clever and snarky when he says something like "Oh, so you can dress up!" only to immediately get back a "Say that again and the next time I do will be at your funeral" together with a scathing glare. Later he realizes he very much did an oopsie with that. Especially once he can't stop thinking about it. Where did they go? What do they do? Why did they suddenly dress up? ... Will he get to see them dressed up again? Why did he say that, instead of something that would've actually let them know that he thinks they look nice? Why did he have to ruin things for himself further? Ends up moping about it and doesn't even tell Moon (in detail) because he feels so stupid about it

Dusk is. Oh dear. Good thing he doesn't have a jaw, because he would have lost it! Would be all over Robin, not even pretending to hide that he's looking. He's a simp, your honor. Will ask to sneak away nearly every five minutes, only barely hiding it behind jokes and laughter. But it's fine, because Robin is just as stupid (i.e. smitten) and doesn't actually mind, and is very normal about the attention. If at some point during the evening Dusk does drag them off to somewhere else, that's between those two, and their usual attitude means that no one is particularly eager to look for them and drag them back. Ideally, Dusk gets Robin talking - about anything, really - and just gets to spend the rest of the night looking <3

Reverse: So you get enthusiastic Dawn, who very much gets along with Robin, and loves flirting with them in the "jk haha unless" style, and he gets to compliment them on their outfits? These two probably discuss wearing complementing if not outright matching outfits just because "I mean, we'll show up together/ pose as a couple, soo..." and neither of them actually cares whether their excuses are flimsy af because they get giddy at the thought of matching each other. They're idiots. Insufferable idiots. They're all over each other, dishing out compliments and flirts with basically everything they say, and the worst thing is? It works for them. No one thinks the insufferably sweet and PDA indulgent couple would be secret agents, and then they're secret agents and not even a couple. Somehow, they get worse post reveal

Moon on the other hand thinks he knows exactly why the neighbor is so high strung - whatever job they have requires dressing up, which and white collar or not, it's all the same to him. Also once makes the mistake and tells them that perhaps they just need to loosen up and lose the tie - and then, after their snappy retort, is too awkward to explain that he's only wondering if they ever get to wear non restrictive, comfortable clothes, because that's also not appropriate to say! Stuck between a rock and a hard place, because he is curious what they're working as with how elaborate the outfits get (courtesy of Dawn, who of course does not realize even when Moon shares his pondering), but he can't ask and by now he's already ruined all chances he had. Quietly hopes the neighbor gets to relax sometimes, and withdraws a little further to not be another stressor

Ramble away about your dragon AU

ok so skye prudence bertha and now vince too because i think having a wet sock of a sadboy dragon would be fun. theyre all fledgelings, which im going to refer to as fillies and colts despite them not being horses just for ease of communication.

lydia meets these guys after being jailed for dragon crimes. she knew prudence and bertha before she ran away but not particularly well, and the other two are new additions to the stable since then (skye only just having gone from hatchling to fledgeling, and vince being a rescue). anyway, initially lydia is put in a stall next to beetlejuice, but after a while its determined that she doesnt have any agression towards other dragons despite being a bit snappy with people, so for socialisation reasons shes moved to the larger stall where the other three fillies live. the fledgelings are split by sex and the colts are in the next stall but i dont think im going to bother with whoever vince's roomates are.

anyway, the fillies. none of them really know what to make of the new feral roomate at first, but theyre curious and friendly and they all warm up to each other in varying degrees - prudence and bertha befriend her first, skye takes a little longer but shes determined to make it work. lydia offers to teach them what she learnt out in the wild, which has some... interesting results. at one point a rat gets into the stall and theyre all kinda curious but mostly wary but then lydia just. eats it.

and then, vince. wont be in it nearly as much since he's a neighbour rather than roomate but im imagining lydia climbing up to the top of this cat tree-like thing at the back of the stall and settling down up there and the looking to the left and in the next stall over theres this soggy colt built like a greyhound with a little cloud above his head, and he just says something like 'oh, do you come up here to avoid the other fledgelings too?' the other 2-3 colts he lives with like rough-housing and thats just not his thing.

writing the little history lesson was difficult, because it's kind of hard to rlly know how an Eliksni would explain it themselves when so much of our knowledge of it comes from either very biased sources or vague references scattered thru the lore. I did my best to keep it canon-adjacent but took a few liberties. also the thing abt the House names is probably not canon but i don't rlly jive w the semi-canon idea that the Houses took names from those given to them by Humanity? just like the idea better if they gave themselves new names to adapt to the changing world.

so yeah! there's that little mini-reveal that House Storm is actually House Rain! not sure if anyone else but me is gonna be excited abt that haha. and this is technically at least a little AU now since i think Rain showed up in SotDawn?
