You know the type of person that succeeds in life without really trying? 

That was Gael. The studious, intelligent only son sandwiched between four sisters saw early success in his childhood passions, namely the sciences and religion. He was well-liked among his peers, displaying zeal and enthusiasm for anything he set his mind to, whether it was practicing martial arts out of a need to protect his sisters, involving himself in the church or feeding his growing interest in nuclear energy. 

As he entered college to major in chemistry, his enthusiasm was somewhat misplaced and he turned into a party animal - studies were replaced with illicit substances, the church was almost forgotten in the haze of a frat boy lifestyle. He wasn’t too worried about it, though; he was a fast learner and his natural charm and charisma carried him through those formative years of getting blackout drunk with friends out in the woods and placing seemingly innocuous substances into his body. Nothing happened, was the kicker. He graduated cum laude despite it all, and everything was going great for the newly-formed scientist.

Though he attempted to relax a little after college and put the party animal times behind him, those addictive habits never quite left. He wore them well, however, never giving any implication that he wanted or needed help. He was still the golden boy, Mr. Popular and Prince Charming! That was, until his long-time girlfriend left him. Back to going out drinking and partying, it was. It didn’t bother him, he was still fine. 

Aaaand then one night years later, Gael was out doing what he thought he did best - having a grand night out in the woods with his friends, illuminated only by a big bonfire and the light of the full moon - when he was attacked by what he could’ve sworn was a bear, something that tore him up and landed him in the hospital. It was fine, though, he was fine. It was just a bear attack, it happens to everyone. 

Well lucky for him, he wasn’t mauled to death by a bear. A little less lucky for him was that it was actually a werewolf, not that he believed it for over a year. The blackouts, the torturous pain, being covered in blood and waking up in his birthday suit three nights a month? The attack had left him with a… very severe sleepwalking disorder, that’s all. Happened to everyone, right? …Right?

Turns out it doesn’t happen to everyone and after thinking he accidentally killed a good friend of his and his willful ignorance actually getting an innocent hiker murdered, Gael realized that maybe things weren’t as good as he thought. He said farewell to Wicked’s Rest the first time, taking his surrogate daughter with him to travel across the country for a cure for the lycanthropy that took the normalcy out of his life. 

He missed being a human, he missed getting a good night’s sleep, he missed the lack of back pain, not hearing everything that was said under everyone’s breath and being able to smell the one kid in his class that had too much body spray on. While he was traveling and despite all the positives that he realized came with having the wolf, he quickly came to the conclusion that there is no cure. He was and forever would be a werewolf. 

But that’s not where the story ends.

There wasn’t a cure, sure, but while he was away, his sleepless nights were filled with books that he read when he was younger. He searched for equations, methods to eradicate or mitigate cancer cells. He searched for holistic remedies to all the symptoms he had, things that had been passed down from other wolves and even other species to assist with their unique forms of pain. He researched ways to sedate animals, how much was required, how the body naturally lost its sense of smell over time due to age and other factors. There was no cure, but that wasn’t to say that he couldn’t attempt to replicate being a human once more. The wolf, the wretched thing inside him that ruined everything, had its way with him for three nights but Gael, the human, had the rest of that time to think about what he could do to make the wolf as miserable as it made him. The human was still the original and his life was perfect before; why should the wolf get to change that?

He knew people in Wicked’s Rest, intelligent people, people who could possibly help with his newfound desire to simulate being a human once more. Safely leaving his kiddo with his family, he returned to Wicked’s Rest where he is now, trying with his usual brand of denial– er, enthusiasm, to find a way to get as close as possible to how he felt as a human before. Make the wolf slow, unable to effectively kill anyone else.

Character Facts:

Personality: Ambitious, sarcastic, fun-loving, temperamental, empathetic, stubborn, intellectual

He used to be a chemistry professor with UMWR before he left. Now that he’s back, given the unreliability of the transformations, he now has a job as a freelance all-round science tutor with a specialty in chemistry and physics.

While he spent most of his time as a werewolf in complete denial over the supernatural, he’s since been confronted with it to the point where he'd be too foolish to ignore it. A switch has been flipped - he’s now in “knowledge absorb” mode and tries to be as gentle as possible with his questions when he’s curious about something or someone new.

He makes it very clear that he does not consider himself to be the wolf inside him and vice-versa; he takes responsibility for it but as far as he’s concerned, the wolf is its own entity. He named it Lycaon and it shares a fur pattern similar to this. He’s still not a big fan of being called a “werewolf”, preferring to refer to it as a parasite.

As mentioned in his history, he’s fallen back into a few more bad habits. Some of them, he claims, help with dulling his senses. It makes sense in his head and definitely isn’t an excuse to give in to those vices. 

Despite that, he hasn’t abandoned his religion and he’s still never seen without his cross-shaped necklace. It used to be silver. He can’t wear it anymore for obvious reasons. Fun fact: before he realized it was lycanthropy, he thought he was possessed.

There’s a lingering feeling that’s haunting Allison, though it only shows up when she’s standing by the staircase — It’s difficult to not let her mind wander back to the year before, this time last year. Her determination to have a good time tonight hasn’t been in vain. She’d done enough shots with Danny to be a bit wobbly, had danced with friends and strangers (and Isaac, secretly hoping it’d make Scott jealous), temporarily forgetting the new Boogeyman that haunted Beacon Hills. Hindsight makes the memory of Lydia’s last birthday easier — It’s a painted picture now rather than just a splotch on a canvas. 

She knows now why Lydia had spiked the punch, why her best friend was subjected to sleepwalking through her life. The thought makes her anger towards Peter Hale begin to bubble, wanting nothing more than to send an arrow right between his eyes. Despite the rational part of her brain reminding her how different her world looks now vs where they were last year — Each time she passes the staircase, where the doorway to the kitchen is only feet away, her heart skips a beat. 

She’s been drunk plenty of times before, but there’s something about this that just feels… disorienting. Maybe she had too much punch, maybe it’s the adrenaline leaving her after that confrontation with Matt — Either way, there’s a sick feeling in her stomach, leaving her feeling unsteady and uncertain of what’s happening around her. She stops at the bottom of the stairs, gripping the edge of a small table to try and reground herself. 

The sight of a black hoodie catches her attention. They push through the crowd of strangers without being noticed, head down as they move. Allison can’t take her eyes off them, the sound of the party drowning out as a ringing in her ears takes over. She’d spotted them earlier — Passing by upstairs while Matt gave up on explaining himself and the photos. Now they stand in full view, sticking out among the drunk party goers. She blinks slowly, taking the sight of them in: Seemingly her height, a black hoodie pulled over their head, weapon tightly in their grip. Instinctively, she calls for help — Namely for Scott, just for the people around her to ignore her entirely. The hooded figure reveals themselves as they lift their head. 

It’s her, Allison realizes, staring back at herself with disgust, crossbow raised.

The music is deafening, but she barely notices the crowd around her. It’s hard not to get caught up in the memory, especially knowing everything that followed. She can’t help but let her mind drift to thoughts of her mother — That rather than spend the evening sleeping in a guest bedroom at Lydia’s lake house that night, she’d spent it sobbing into her father’s chest in the waiting room of the Beacon Hills Hospital. The memory puts a bitter taste in her mouth, one she dulls by downing the last of her vodka soda. 

The arrow hits her before she can even register what’s happening. Pain shoots through her, her hands clutching her stomach as the blood quickly begins to pool. People around her still don’t notice. They’re too consumed with dancing to Lady Gaga than to pay mind to the bleeding girl  mixed in with them. She’s been shot in the stomach, shock and fear consuming her with each passing moment. All she can hear is the ringing in her ears, her heart slamming against her chest. Allison tries to speak, to call for help again, for Scott, something, anything. She can’t seem to get the words out, every word dying on her tongue before it can be screamed. She remains unseen, unnoticed. Blood covers her hands, eyes wide in horror as the realization hits her — She is about to die. 

The sound of her own voice pulls her from her panic, though it ignites a new terror with it. “Look at you, yelling for help.” The disgust rolls off the woman in front of her, bitterness made clear in her tone. It’s strange to be looking at herself, to be in this position at all — All Allison can do is watch in disbelief. “Always yelling for help.” Exasperation greater with each word, eyes narrowed as she continues. “It’s pathetic, Allison.” Hearing her own name makes her blood run cold. She can’t seem to make her feet move, to speak, to do anything but stare at herself. The crossbow is raised once more, now aimed at her head. 

“You have no idea how much I’ve been looking forward to this.” 

“Allison?“ 

The concerned sound of a familiar voice pulls her from the memory, launching her back into reality: Loud music, Lydia’s crowded lake house, her hand gripping Danny’s wrist so tightly her nails are digging into his skin. “Oh my god,” It’s not much of an answer, but the shock prevents her from forming a more coherent sentence. The look on his face made it clear he was confused, clearly having approached her to suggest another round of shots. “I —“ Allison starts, the drinks she’s had through out the night beginning to catch up with her, keeping her from coming up with a good excuse. 

Her eyes catch the man standing a few feet behind Danny, leaning against the doorway of the kitchen. Ethan. Allison hasn’t spoken to him before, but if Aiden is any indicator — His twin will be just as deadly. The smug look at his features doesn’t help her embarrassment, but she’s too shocked by her own actions to give it much thought. She lets go of Danny’s wrist, her gaze moving between the two. “I need some air. Sorry.” She settles on, pushing her way past them and into the crowd, ignoring Danny calling out her name. 

She hadn’t planned for any of this — The first half of her night had gone well enough, drinking and dancing and pretending there was no Alpha pack or strange deaths at their doorstep. (The former was harder to forget when both Ethan and Aiden had shown up with a six pack and shit eating grins.) Within minutes her compartmentalizing failed her — Yet another thing to add to the list — but Allison had no interest in causing a scene. This was Lydia's party, and she wasn't about to ruin it with her own bullshit.

The cool March air is a welcomed change, greeting her as she steps outside and off of the deck. Crisp air promotes goosebumps while the warmth of the nearby bonfire keeps her from freezing. Kicking off her heels, her hands push through her hair as she forces herself to take a deep breath and calm down. She can hear the sound of her mother’s voice in her head, berating her for not being able to keep her emotions in check. She’d done well enough up until that point — From sneaking her way into the bank vault, and helping corral Cora and Boyd into the high school to avoid them reeking havoc through out, to keeping an actual distance from Scott and anything having to do with the supernatural. She’d promised herself and her father she’d stay out of it — This would be a new start, a clean slate. Attempt to live normal lives despite the amount of graves labeled Argent, and the residual guilt she carries.

It shouldn’t have surprised her that it didn’t last.

I suppose the last scene where Steven falls due to his anklet, and with the sand around the bed, is due to repetitive behavior, it is two months or more that he has started using these kinds of "tactics" to avoid sleepwalking, and therefore it is now his custom to continue like this. I think. I explain better, he has the autism spectrum, Oscar Isaac said in an interview, so that's probably why he does it. That is, I have no other explanation otherwise, if you have understood anything else then let me know. I don't know much about this disorder, but on the sites where they talk about it it always says: "they have repetitive behaviors". I suppose that Steven has therefore developed this everyday life of leaving the sand and having the anklet and he struggles or has no reason to let it go, but I repeat that it is only a hypothesis of course. If that's the case, I'm still happy that Marc doesn't bother or try to force Steven to change this habit. :3

Movie recs of movies that are... slightly weird or special

Donnie Darko (2001) - psychological scifi thriller, weird and... weird

The Fountain (2006) - magical realism drama, gripping and beautiful

Love and Monsters (2020) - a monster adventure movie. Stuff(TM) happens that made insects and amphibia HUGE AND MONSTROUS and also eat people, and seven years after people either died or went underground, Joel (Dylan O'Brian) goes to find his then-girlfriend. It is a really cute and funny movie, with the right mix of humor and excitement and a bit of sadness.

Annihilation (2018) - scifi and psychological thriller with an ever-amazing Natalie Portman. Something landed on earth and starts to change its surrounding. Lena goes in to find her husband. The whole movie has this atmosphere of strange and disturbing beauty, and definitely no clear finale.

Arrival (2016) - based on a short story, that movie challenges your perception of linearity and language. Aliens land on earth, and Louise Banks (Amy Adams) comes to decipher their language. Absolutely brilliant.

Agora (2009) - tells the story of philosopher, mathematician, astronomer and generally brilliant Hypatia (Rachel Weisz) back in the 5th century. That movie shook me. Not only is the cast amazing (Oscar Isaacs is also there), it is so moving and heartbreaking. Watch if you need a good cry.

Brotherhood of the Wolves (2001) - a period action horror film set in France. Chevalier de Fronsac (Samuel de Bihan) is sent to investigate the horrible murder of various people by what seems to be a werewolf... and is anything but. Amazing acting, super intense atmosphere and Mark Dacascos and Monica Bellucci.

Moon (2009) - Considering that we have one (1) actor starring basically the whole movie, namely Sam Rockwell, this movie shouldn't be as great as it is. Humanity has started to harvest the moon, and Sam is one a 3-year solitary mining mission. His only companion is a robot, GERTY. Of course, strange things happens, and the resolution is not what you'd think it'd be.

9 (2009) - an animated movie about a small ragdoll-like robot who awakens shortly after the end of mankind, and must find eight other robots to figure out the mystery behind humanity's destruction while tangling with the vicious creations of a massive soul-stealing machine. Heartwarming and lovely and beautiful.

Donnie Darko (2001) - a movie that makes you go "dafuq did I just watch". Officially a psychological scifi thriller, it's strange and then some more strange. Donnie (Jake Gyllenhaal) survives a bizarre accident by sleepwalking and has visions of Frank, a guy in a horror bunny costume. Frank tells him that the world will end in 28 days. The movie is weird in the best sense, and nobody I know who watched it can tell if they actually like it - but it definitely leaves an impression.

The Fountain (2006) - a magical realism drama. With emphasis on drama and magical. Three storylines that revolve around immortality and love, with amazing acting and extremely beautiful pictures. Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz and honestly, what do you want more?

Tysm for the ask about my OC Isaac- I was so happy when I saw it. So this is an ask about your OCs! I've seen quite a few posts of yours tagged with Ceremorph vibes- who are they? 👀

Also I just love hearing about other people's OCs in general. Feel free to use this ask to rant about like. Any OC you want :D

hi hi hello!! aaa ok so! let me explain the tag system i've got real quick! It's always "[character name] vibes," to show that it kind of has? the vibes of one of my OCs, in a sense. (they're almost all dnd ocs because that's my special interest ig) This might be incoherent because I don't know how to talk about my characters in a way that makes sense but here we go!

Ceremorph is one of my villain ocs! It originally started as an AU version of one of my other characters, Ven- that AU was based on the idea of "what if he embraced his magic instead of being afraid of it?" and then oops! Ceremorph eventually became its own character in Ven's canon story. Because they're so entwined with each other (quite literally), I have to talk about Ven for a short moment.

Ven is a human who got kidnapped by illithids and was put through the process of ceremorphosis- it's the process of how illithids reproduce, where they lay a clutch of eggs which hatch into tadpoles. The tadpoles cannibalize each other for a while, before eventually being inserted into a suitable host. They latch onto the brainstem (or eat through the brain? not sure) to take over the mind, and slowly, the host's body changes into the body of an illithid. Ven had a tadpole inserted into his eye, it latched onto his brain stem, and perhaps this was a new experiment the illithids were doing or perhaps something went wrong, but the transformation didn't happen correctly. Ven was found two months after his disappearance, still looking like a human but with no memories of his past. What he did have, however, was a parasite in his brain and the new ability to cast magic- of course, he didn't know about that.

Ceremorph is the source of Ven's magic and has all of Past Ven's memories, but is aware that those aren't its own- in fact, it hates Ven's wife because she stirs up all of the emotions Ven had felt towards her, and Cere is very emotionally repressed and doesn't like that At All. Its people aren't very big on emotions, and it carries itself with a logical and manipulative coolness, though it can have a flair for theatrics and can be prone to anger. Cere, like all illithids, eat brains for the psionic energy, and the hungrier Cere gets, the more... feral/ less sentient it gets.

Currently, Ceremorph can observe almost everything Ven does from inside his brain- it occasionally takes a step back if things get boring, but it Watches. Cere can also take over Ven's body, but almost never does this when Ven is awake, and prefers to do it when he's asleep so it can be passed off as sleepwalking. Given how Cere can mimic Ven really well, the reason it doesn't take over when Ven is awake is due to the fact Ven himself would question the gaps in his memory, possibly causing Cere to be discovered. Also because as good as an actor Cere is, it's not perfect- it dislikes touch, and some of its mannerisms and movements are off. Despite being hidden, Cere talks to Ven: as far as Ven is concerned, it's just his anxiety or part of his subconcious. Cere was actually the one who pushed Ven to unlock their magical abilities- Cere was thrilled at the magic finally being unlocked, and Ven was horrified over the fact he tore a man apart with sorcery he didn't even know he had.

There are some scenes I'm excited for, actually: Ven is currently travelling, and locks the door from the outside so he can't leave while he's "sleepwalking." Eventually, perhaps some other characters will wake up to hear Ven's voice asking them to open the door, please, why don't you? Another scene is where Cere's hunger finally gets the best of it, causing it to take over Ven's body while he's awake and attacking a low-level antagonist, smashing open their skull with magic and devouring their brain in front of Ven's friends. Cere unintentionally reveals itself, and Ven has to wake up and realize he's committed an act of cannibalism, there's a parasite in his brain, and oh yeah! He's becoming a monster that can only live if it kills others.

And of course!!! If Ven ever dies, Ceremorph will in fact take over his corpse!! I don't know what it's planning, but it will absolutely form a cult, and Ophelia will have to fight the monster that looks like and can almost perfectly mimic her dead wife.

Since it's a dnd villain npc, I truly don't know what it's planning. Where does it try to go at night when it's not hunting? Why did it form a cult?

I had a whole paragraph talking about the seperate physical differences Ven and Cere are drawn with (sharp teeth, webbed claws and ears, etc). but even then Ven gains all those traits once his body starts to change. The floating hair is difficult, since Ven has that when he uses his magic, and Cere really only starts to float off the ground once it realizes it doesn't have to pretend to be Ven anymore and can use its magic however it wants. I'd argue the glasses, but Cere wears those when pretending to be Ven (although Ven!Cere's glasses always have a lense flare to hide its eyes). It's all a wild mix.

I have no idea if that was? Making sense? I'm aware there's not much to it, it's just a typical dnd villain, but I have a lot of fun with it- Cere is surprisingly easy to joke about

Anyway this probably didn;t make sense and it is! 12am now, oh goodness

but yeah i just think it's cool and tbh i made Cere bc I wanted a self-indulgent au for myself where my nervous poet was a very dangerous and pretty villain

Aiden Hills Academy pt.1 (Zayne's Story)

“Was it really real? That kind of vampire, werewolf, and siren?”

My father chuckled. “Yes, that's true. When in high school I befriended them.”

“But everyone always said it was just folktales.”

“Everyone just can't accept the truth. You know what Isaacs Newton said? What we know is a drop, what we don't know is an ocean.”

That's what I always remembered about my father.

After his mysterious death, in his will he wanted me to move from my public school to this private boarding school, Aiden Hills Academy. He said it can make me know more about myself. I don't know what he means, my mother already passed before I was 5, so I'm just alone now.

The taxi stopped in front of the black gate. I take out my belongings and a girl greets me. She was the most beautiful girl that I ever saw.

“Hi, you must be Ashley. I'm Adria, a head girl here. Nice to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you too.” I shaked her hand and she helped me to take my belongings. After she showed me my shared room with the girl with the glasses. I think she was a bookworm when i saw so many books near her bed.

“Adria,��� another girl poked her head into the room. “Rafayel got injured, he's in the clinic now.”

“Why did something happen to him, someone always told me?”

“He said, he wants you know.”

After that girl leaves, Adria talks to me, “Maybe before we explore our school, I'll show you the clinic.”

…

When we arrived there, Adria nagged that purple haired young man named Rafayel who was lying in bed with some bruises on his face. While Adria and Rafayel started an argument, I saw the wolf sleeping on the other bed. Male, with the black hair. I'm slowly approaching the wolf. I realized that the wolf got injured too. I pat the head slowly and rub the hair. I hope the wolf gets better. Suddenly the wolf’s eyes opened and looked at me. His hazel eyes hypnotized me.

“Ashley, let's go!”

I pat his head for the last time and follow Adria out.

…

“Hey, are you easy to fall asleep?” Ask Adria after we explore the entire school. I can't believe they had forests, lakes and little mountains here.

“I sleep easily but I easily wake up if I hear something. Why?”

“I hope you can help me by watching over Gretta, your roommate.”

“What's wrong with her?”

“Sometimes we found her sleepwalking at night. But when we asked this to her, she said she had never been sleepwalking before.”

“Okay, I'll watch her.”

Like what Adria said, I woke up that night because I heard my door open. I saw Gretta walk outside our room. Quickly I took my jacket and chased her outside.

“Gretta!” I tried to call her but she keep walking until I saw a figure a man at the end of corridor. That figure opened his arm like he will catches Gretta.

“Gretta, wake up!” Now Gretta in his arm, still closed her eyes and helpless.

I should call Adria. I turn around and start running, but I can't move. It was like something invisible hold my move. I almost cry when I see the hazel eyes in the dark watching me, and I hear the footstep aproaching me. That wolf in the clinic look at me back.

A second later that wolf changed to be young man with long dark hair. His uniform convince me, he was a student here. He was so handsome. The most handsome man I ever see.

“Let her go!”

Now I feel can move, but my knees are weakened.

“Oh, is she yours?” the figure's voice sounds mocking him.

“It's none of your business.” he said coldly.

This tension make me slowly unconscious. I feel I will drop myself to the floor. But a warm hand catches me and before I faint, I hear he whispers in my ear, “Good to see you, my mate.”
