Honey, you're familiar like my mirror years ago Idealism sits in prison, chivalry fell on its sword Innocence died screaming, honey, ask me I should know I slithered here from Eden just to sit outside your door

I listened to the entirety of the Finishing School series when I was in college and I really liked it, but I could not tell you anything that happens in it except for how the love triangle ends.

4 and 5 for Phoenix?
Thanks for the ask! From this ask game.
4. Do they have any scars or tattoos?
Ah. Well. Yes, I think is the only answer to the first half of that question. A lot.
A document from Phoenix's medical records, sometime after the abuse is discovered and they start actually getting medical treatment:
An Incomplete List of Phoenix's Scars, by Dr Aaron Thomas, XX:XX XX/XX/XXXX
Handprint freeze burns on the torso and arms
Handprint thermal burns on both arms
Non-handprint thermal burns on both arms, torso and legs
Various lethal stab wounds in the chest area
Multiple bullet scars on the torso
Circular marks on both wrists and feet
Small cut on the left index finger
Various length slashes to the torso and arms (non-lethal)
Scars encircling the wrists and ankles (suspect restraints)
Lashes on their back
Electricity burns on their torso and neck (taser? parilla? shock collar? I don't really want to speculate)
Note to Sophia Sidheag: I am not re-traumatising them for a complete recording. Just make sure the radiographer scans their whole body, you can get the data you and the others need that way.
So yeah... not good. That's what happens when villains work out that you're immortal and your team doesn't care enough to rescue you – prime target for interrogation (and when your teammates also cause scars bc they're abusive fuckers). Add to that a lack of medical treatment that could lessen them and... yeah. As I said, not good.
As for tattoos, they don't have any right now, although they'd like one. In the future, they'll probably get a couple to cover some of the scars from their team permanently, but that's quite a way off.
5. What was the last time they cried, and under what circumstances?
Right so, the current WIP I'm writing (well... not the one I just started, that covers a span of five years so it's hard to count from there, but the one I should be writing) is set a few months after Kai finds out about Phoenix's abuse. Kai's still on Phoenix's team with Abbie and that lot.
So, the last time they cried at this point would be when Kai and Aaron bought them a present. They pooled their money together to buy them a weighted blanket (bc a) their room is very bare, b) they seriously need it, and c) they just wanted to get their new friend a present), and Phoenix cried. They haven't gotten a present since they last saw their sister five years ago. I mean, why would anyone buy them anything? They're not worth it. But Kai and Aaron did and it means the world to them. Especially their attempts at sewing decorations on. They actually made something specifically for them?
(cue Kai and Aaron panicking because, our present is so bad we made our friend cry! And then Phoenix hurriedly explaining through tears that it's not bad, really, they just didn't expect it.)
(and then at some point Kai and Aaron will drag them out shopping to help decorate their room, and Phoenix will end up being prescribed anti-anxiety meds bc they have a fleetload of trauma and anxiety and they were never exactly mentally healthy to begin with. But that's later.)

Parasolverse by Gail Carriger
As a general concept, I cannot express how much I adore every series in this universe. Each series has a cast of interesting and dislikeable characters, and there's a nice sprinkling of LGBT characters. That said - there are some problems. Some of which are centered around the author's world building continuity, and some of which are centered around narrative issues in the audiobooks.
Since the narrative issues are mostly personal preference and not critical to the consumption of the books, let's discuss that first and then move on to the meat and potatoes of the situation. I absolutely understand that it's not feasible or even sometimes desirable for extended universe's like this to have one consistent narrator. I do not understand how people get paid to narrate a series in the midst of an extended universe and don't even bother to listen to name pronunciations in the other books, or to learn anything about the characters. It's annoying enough that we apparently can't agree on a single pronunciation for Lord Akeldama (sp), but in the Custard Protocol series the narrator literally CHANGES THE NATIONALITY of a character by giving an Italian accent to a dandy who has never in his life left London and is **not** Italian. It takes a character readers have spent 5+ books with and completely changes the entire perception of him in a way that is not a good representation of the books.
Now, the continuity issues within the books themselves are significant enough that it seems ironic to complain about narrator continuity issues. From this point on, there will be spoilers.
I'm only going to be discussing the full length novels, not any of the novellas.
The Finishing School [FS] series which introduces us to the series is a solid, entertaining read that I have basically no complaints about.
The Parasol Protectorate series follows the 20's portions of the life of, we can safely assume, the child Sophronia was hired to to guard at the end of the previous series. All good there. Lord Akeldama is a delight. Alexia is a likeable yet flawed main character.
My only real continuity mention in this series is that Sidheag and Vieve seem to not know each other? But potentially they're shamming because its the sort of thing they learned in FS.
The Custard Protocol is particularly fun because we are seeing the aetheric science of the future that was discussed in FS, and we see many returning characters from FS. That said... We have some issues here, y'all.
1. The Alpha's Curse: the author sped things up to make a more tidy and exciting timeline. It was unnecessary. Lord Maccon could have retired to Egypt in dignity, and would have, had the progression of the curse gone according to previously established parameters.
2. The LeFoux preservation tank: in the PP series kept Madame Lefoux from FS in ghost form for *years*, and yet Formerly Floot is a ghost for months at most. At the end of the series, Q says the preservation tank was inspired by Rue disliking baths but this is inaccurate, as the original and apparently significantly better designed tank was invented many years before Rue's birth.
These problems can ultimately be summed up in the same way: if you're going to make the "science" and call it such, you cant change it willy nilly just to make your timeline more dramatic.
3. Timelines - Ivy Tunstall was not a girl at the same time as Genevieve L, they should be approximately ~10 years apart in age.

Book: The blood queen
Author: David H. Millar
Genre: historical fantasy
⭐️ ⭐️/5
“It is a king’s decision,” said Brion.
“It will not be you who deceives and delivers the lamb to the butcher’s block,” retorted Eimhir.
True evil is a persistent and tenacious beast. Its desire for existence is eternal and insatiable. It needs to infect only one mind for its insidious philosophy to take root and spread.
It is 394 B.C. At a remote loch in the highlands of Northern Albu, a priest sacrifices nine innocents. Below the water’s surface, a shape feeds on their blood and begins to take form. Soon it becomes sentient and begins to hunt. Sidheag has risen.
Humans cannot defeat the abomination. Neither can Mongfhionn, the powerful leader of the demi-goddesses of the Aes Sidhe. The only remedy is the Blood Queen and Gràinne is the sole heir to that throne. Will the Blood Queen stand alongside Mongfhionn to confront Sidheag?
Yet the cost for Gràinne may be too much—unless her daughter, Brianag, is in jeopardy.
Passions, always near the surface of the Celts, burst into flames in The Blood Queen where father is pitted against son; mother against daughter; sister against sister; brother against sister; and father against daughter.
I really wanted to enjoy this book, but unfortunately I found it a bit hard to get into. There are a lot of characters introduced at once, so it is hard to keep track of them all.
There is also quite a bit of battles and war in the book, which is not an objectively bad thing, it’s just not my cup of tea.
I had a bit of a hard time grasping the plot of the book, but that might just be me having a hard time keeping the characters apart since I’m not used to only having Irish and Scottish names on the characters.

So it struck me while reading Reticence that i feel the same way about the Finishing School ladies as i do about The Maurauders in Harry Potter. Only we’ve actually have a bunch of books about the Finishing School ladies. And they are a lot less... well... deceased.
I really love the choices Gail has made in setting her various works across different generations and timezones. We get to see the mortal characters at various life stages, and the immortals continuing their long games throughout the series.
Now... give me that book about the trio in Egypt please Miss Carriger. *grabby hands*
