🐌 NPC | Martin, Enzo, & Ronaldo Vega

Character Relation: Didi and Lázaro's three children.

As the three children of Didi and Lázaro Vega, the boys certainly have an interesting existence. They have gourmet lunches packed by their mother and spend their time after school digging in the dirt in their father’s flower shop.

Martin is an aspiring scientist after spending one summer with their grandpa— he's a bit of a chatterbox and always questioning, which is horribly amusing. Always kind and polite, seeing as he's the oldest and he's been told by his grandfather that he should try and set an example for the others, but still manages to get in trouble sometimes as some adults don't do well with answering his questions. And if they can't answer him in full sentences, how is he ever going to learn anything?

Enzo came out a bit too much like his mother— he bites, screams easily at an ear-shattering decibel, and is ready to hit anyone that upsets him. Didi, thankfully, has gotten it through to him that he can't act that way with family; just people who annoy you. Which has really only led to Enzo being the self-appointed protector of his brothers. The neighbor kids aren't so much afraid of little Enzo as they are concerned that he might have rabies.

Ronaldo is the youngest of the three and is very clearly the baby. As quick as Enzo is to toddler rage, Ronaldo is to tears. He's a bit too sensitive and maybe he likes his mom's cooking too much that if you offer anything else to him he'll pout in the most miserable way, but, thankfully, he's easily amused. A silly face or just picking him up can usually quell his crying. That and snails. For some reason, he'll actually pipe up if he sees a snail. He loves those slippery little guys.

Fun fact: I also headcanon that Martin grows up to be a marine researcher (Jasper is very proud that SOMEONE became a scientist), Enzo becomes a small-time MMA fighter and later coach (Didi and Lázaro try and make it to every match tbh!), and Ronaldo actually takes over the family flower shop!

Thinking about perfumes and colognes bc i like nice smelling things, so have some head canons of what my muses wear/would wear, and if they liked to wear them or not!

~Solana~

Solana likes perfumes, especially fruity or more masculine ones- Though she hardly ever buys, or wears, any of them. They're too pricey in her book, and why would she waste so much gil on nice smelling shit that just gonna wear off when she gets sweaty spending the entire day in the sun? Though to her credit, she doesn't really need perfume. More often then not she seems to have an almost cinnamon-y, spiced rum mixed with sea salt scent to her. It's warm and inviting, and suits her rather well.. though it's not everyone's cup of tea, much like Solana herself.

~Julian~

Julian has about as many perfumes and colognes as he does fancy scented soaps and lotions. that is to say, he has a large collection of varying scents and qualities. As opposed to Solana, you'd be hard pressed to find a time he isn't wearing any- even when he's in his house alone, lounging in bed clothes. That said, he certainly saves his nicer ones for dates (if and when he has any) and important meetings. His preferred scents are light, clean floral scents- nothing too heavy or strong. He finds they suit his overall aesthetic, likes the smell, and likes that its unobtrusive, so as not to be distracting.

~Ferrien~

He buys exactly one type of cologne. Just the one. It started out that way as it was the only one he'd let himself buy- a treat to himself for his hard work- But now he simply prefers it, and it's become his signature scent. Much like Julian, he almost always has it on. It's a more masculine scent- very earthy, woody, spicy and warm. It lingers on his clothes, and any partners or friends who might borrow a shirt or jacket from him can probably smell it quite strongly.

~Ilmari~

She has a couple perfumes, all of very floral and earthy, natural scents- nothing over the top, or that might make her stand out too much or give away her position to any creatures when she's out exploring the Steppe. If anything, it's a bit of an old floral scent- like an older person might wear, or the scent of a funeral home. It's not exactly a comforting smell to most, but she likes it.

~Narin~

Doesn't understand the point of cologne/perfume, doesn't own any, hardly even understands what they are to be honest with you. But much like his cousin, he has a more pleasant natural scent- to some, anyway. He smells of clean sweat and the earth, like grass and dirt. Probably because he spends most of his life outside.

~N'Zael~

Has a few standard colognes, the cheaper kind, and they all smell.. about the same. Deep, heady, strong scents- not like, teenage boy wearing body spray strong- just. noticeable, like cologne a generic dad might wear. When he's not wearing it, he smells like sweat and hot sand though so- honestly, choose which one you'd prefer. Dad cologne or sweaty sand.

~Eriis~

Not a fan of most perfumes, but in fact more of a body spray person. Give her one of those standard fruit-scented sprays that kind of just make you smell generically sweet, and she'll be happy. Cherry is her favorite, or something that smells vaguely like a wine.

~Finch~

Only wears colognes on dates, and they're always clean and musky. Clean sweat and soap and musk, something generic yet that draws attention regardless... it lingers, and honestly its debatable if its actually cologne or if maybe he just smells like that. He'll never tell.

Age 15 going on sixteen

Clea was found by Stephanie when Steph sensed a tear in the veil. Clea had tried to curse some other girls who had been picking on a friend.

Unfortunately she misread the spell she found and summoned a demon.

Clea (who was in a foster home) summoned the demon inside her foster parent’s home.

Wong and Stephanie were at the Scantum only a few blocks west of the home and felt a cosmic disturbance.

They portaled over and took care of the demon. Unfortunately enough damage had been done. The mother had a severe cut on her arm. Which Stephanie bandaged while Wong talked to the girl.

The family was going to kick Clea out. But Wong and Strange had a better idea.

(Though it was morally questionable and not strictly legal.)

They implanted false memories into the foster family’s minds -Of Clea running away- And took her on as an apprentice in the Scantum Santorum.

Raising her like the kids they never had.

Stephanie is fiercely protective of her. As is Wong. Woe to anyone who would harm her.

Trivia:

Clea’s hair was once blonde but is now completely white due to her experience with the demon.

Her favourite colour is purple.

Her favourite pastime is playing Cupid and being a nuisance.

Character Relation: Deacon's employer and criminal mastermind.

It was never Madhu's intention to test Decaon's faith. In the early years of his grand plan, he needed dependable people around him. Individuals that could be led, that could keep their mouths shut, and, more importantly, could handle guns as needed.

Because Madhu is not a hands-on sort of criminal. Blood turns his stomach and corpses make him gag— thankfully, he had found someone in the same town as his new headquarters who knew their way around loaded buckshot without a military or law enforcement background.

See, he would never trust his operation with anyone who's seen both sides of the coin and thought they were actually doing something for the greater good. Nor would he trust the pessimistic former cop or soldier who just wanted to rail against the establishment. No, he needed a third-party observer. A completely unbiased person to fight the good fight with—

No one could be better than a man of God.

Even if Madhu's master plan involved a myriad of sins all rolled into one; a cleanse, if you will. He markets it as the eventual result of mankind's folly— the world will heal itself with or without us and it had more than enough power to destroy them all. So why not destroy it first? Send the masses into chaos until the population thins, the world's on fire, and, eventually she'll rise from the man-made apocalypse, reborn.

It's an absurd idea, but one that can be preached to those who already believe in the end of the world.

And Madhu's part in all this? Well, he owns the farms and can sabotage those he doesn't, creating scarcity. He owns several manufacturers, including an ammunition factory, so he'll cause conflict worldwide. He's put so much dirty money into medical research and he'll bring back the plagues of old...for the profits.

If you're going to play God, you might as well get paid well, no?

So Deacon is his right hand, a stoic, looming henchman of all henchmen, escorting him from town to town, city to city to see how it could be utilized, running the odd job that needed a heavier hand, and, of course, keeping Madhu safe at all times.

On the Unredeemed

Unredeemed villains are important in fiction. I feel like that needs to be said. There is a trend in recent years (probably since Wicked became a hit) of people wanting to see monsters redeemed. I'm not against that (per-se... glowers in Maleficent), but also, I feel like we do lose something when we lean into the idea that the monster gets to make good.

Fiction can be really useful for teaching us about life. I remember seeing a quote some time ago on Pinterest or something that said something along the lines of "fairytales are important not because they tell us dragons are real, but because they tell us that dragons can be slayed". That has been on my mind a lot recently when I see discussions about characters like Azula and (more recently) Ozai. They are fictional characters with super magic fire powers, but they represent something real- they represent the cycle of abuse in families, and while I understand the impulse to absolve someone as young as Azula, I think it's also important to tell the story where she isn't redeemed.

One reason that most Azula redemption stories bother me is because of the responsibility they tend to place on Zuko as her older brother, despite the fact that she victimized him probably more than anyone in her life (that we get to see. I don't think her soldiers believed her death threat for no reason). There are plenty of stories about the victims of abuse needing to be the bigger person to keep their families together and being villainized when they don't (I think by now we all understand that Terri was not the villain of Soul Food). We need stories about knowing when it's okay to walk away, and that illustrate the idea that "the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb".

In a time when more people are talking openly about going low contact or completely cutting off family members- close family members- I personally think that seeing stories about coming out of the other side of it, of building a new family, healing from the past, and dealing with the residual guilt that comes with "turning your back on family" even when it's the right call, is helpful in the same way that those fairytales about slayable dragons are.

I'm not saying any of this to discourage Azula redemption stories. In fact I would love to see more. Stories that have Azula confronting what she did to the people she should have loved most, and have her considering what to do with the knowledge going forward, instead of just using her past abuse and mental health to gloss over the real harm she did. I want to see her grappling to accept the fact that no one- not her brother, not Iroh, not her friends- owes her forgiveness, and then dealing with all the complex emotions that come with just one of them actually forgiving her. But also, I want to see stories where Zuko gets to let go of his father and sister and go on to be supported in that decision. Because to him, they were dragons, and they were slain.
