As for myself, I am into psychedelic and classic rock bands. I enjoy bands such as Steppenwolf and The Guess Who. What about you? Amy (@bilbao-song) told me you were into The Who (this is The Guess Who on a low budget, I'll tell ya h'wat) and The Rolling Stones. I like both of these bands. Did you know I saw The Who in concert a while ago. That was probably 10 years ago now that I think about it, but it was absolutely fantastic! Oh, I absolutely adore psychedelic bands, I used to be really into them and specially the more obscure ones like West Coast Pop Art and Chrysalis have you heard of them they are so good /sobs

I actually need to look more into Steppenwolf myself because the little i heard from them I seriously enjoyed. As for The Guess Who, now you just hold on a second, don't go calling my boys low budget! I know the Guess Who has the American Woman banger but sheesh!

And ah, I'm so jealous! I didn't get to see The Who live yet but my little heart is hopeful that my time will come soon, since they started to announce the European tour!

As for me, hm, I don't know what else to say about me really I like old things that are way before my time, think The Monkees are severely underrated as musicians in my humble opinion, like playing video games and doing artsy stuff like writing and drawing.

My favorite genres are psychedelic, folk and pop when it comes to 60's-70's rock.

I like the new Avatar series. It’s a little disconcerting that they accelerated some plot lines and changed some things, and episode 4 definitely felt rushed, but that’s hardly surprising given the change in medium and the enormous amount of money it takes to produce something like this.

The cast is amazing, the scenery and costumes are fantastic, the CGI is pretty damn good, and I love that they brought in fan favs like the secret tunnel song and the cabbage man. They’d better get Toph right next season because her character is crucial, not just to further the plot but for disability representation and because Toph is freaking awesome and a total boss.

My son wants The Rock to play The Boulder, which would be pretty hilarious tbh. He’d probably love to do it, too. It’d be right up his alley since he was a professional wrestler.

I recognized A Martinez just by his voice before I even saw his face. I love that he’s in this and in Dark Winds, which is absolutely brilliant and I long for more seasons of that. For some reason his presence makes me feel less old, although you’d think it would be the opposite at this point.

A VERY late secret Santa gift for a friend of their Tiger Rock character from the theme park Chessington World Of Adventures. Absolutely loved the character design and had to pick her.

Used a combination of coloured pencils and digital colouring for this one as i didn't have certain colours like the muted orange (working on broadening my coloured pencil collection and markers so i shall have more colours soon) but i am happy with how she turned out.

I am technically not classing this as my first 2024 piece of art as it technically should have been completed in December but it was such a busy month for me that i didn't have time to start it.

Hello! Yes, I have heard of The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, although I am not super familiar with them. I like their song "Shifting Sands". What is your favourite song by them? Can you recommend me any songs? If you are interested in discovering new old psychedelic rock bands, I suggest you give these bands a listen: - The Red Krayola - Mother Tucker's Yellow Duck - The Seeds of Time - Mashmakhan As for The Who, this is a running joke between a friend and I. We always say that The Who is The Guess Who on a low budget, because they had to ditch a part of their name due to budget cuts. Also, I can give you song recommendations for Steppenwolf. So, I learned about them through the song Smell of Incense, which is an absolutely favorite of mine, not only by this band in particular but it's one of my favorite songs period!

Their second album is in my opinion the best one, but the first one also has some great gems like "As the World Rises and Falls" and "A Child's Guide to Good and Evil". The second album has the real bangers like "Buddha", "Delicate Fawn" and "Queen Nymphet"! I just gotta add Delicate Fawn here as well because I love it so much!

Surprisingly enough I never heard anything from any of the bands you recommended, so I'm definitely going to take a peek at them! Also another band I forgot to mention was Circus 2000, did you ever hear anythng by them?

And I imagined it was something probably along those lines when you said they were the "low budget" option lol

As for Steppenwolf please, please, give me recommendations! The two songs I love by them are Magic Carpet Ride and The Pusher if that helps you any with the recommendations?

ho ho ho, classic rock fans! Christmas is coming and so is The Secret Rocker Santa project! if you are looking for an opportunity to make new friends who love classic rock, or just want to make someone happy, this is your chance!

What is Secret Rocker Santa?

Secret Rocker Santa is a tumblr-wide “match-maker” in which you will anonymously send asks to (and hopefully befriend!) a tumblr user who is assigned to you. you will also be assigned to someone else, who will send anonymous asks to you. the event will run from december 1st through december 25th. while this might seem complicated, it’s actually quite simple, and you will only need to answer a minimum of two questions to sign up.

How it works:

you must read these instructions!

the deadline to sign up is november 28th. there are two ways that you can sign up: the first option is to sign up via google forms. the second option is to send me a submission (or an ask) with your completed questionnaire (found here). while the first two questions are required, you can otherwise provide as much or as little information as you want.

please reblog this post! (this isn’t a strict requirement, but it would be greatly appreciated and helps to ensure that enough people will participate!)

your ask box must be open to anyone! this means that anon asks will have to be enabled. if you want, you can wait until the first day of the project (december 1st) to change this setting, but please make sure you remember!

your blog doesn’t have to be classic rock-related, you just need to be a fan. (we will also be using a very broad definition of “classic rock,” so nearly any music from 1950s-1990s counts.)

(those are the main things you need to know, but more details + some helpful tips are below the cut!!)

shortly after signing up you will be assigned a number — you probably won't need it for anything, but it's a backup way for me to keep track of who is who in case we run into any problems :)

during the last days of november, i will be assigning people to their Secret Rocker Santas. you will receive a message from me telling you who you have been assigned to, either in the form of an ask or direct message.

you will start messaging the person assigned to you ANONYMOUSLY on the 1st of december and continue until Christmas (december 25th), which is when you will reveal your identity and (hopefully) have made a new friend!

you can send your partner whatever you want (as long as you do not reveal your identity). your job is to make your partner feel happier! (some ideas: send lyrics, pictures, or facts; play games, chat, and of course do things that are not only associated with classic rock).

be careful - make sure you are messaging your assigned partner anonymously.

please tag messages that you receive from your secret santa and any other related posts as #SRS23, so your santa will be able to find your answers more easily.

EXTRA REMINDERS:

some people might get more than one santa or will be assigned to more than one person, depending on how many people participate and how many suitable matches i have for certain people. if you are certain you will not be able to be a secret santa for two people, please mention this when you submit your form (you can also let me know if you would prefer to be a santa for two or more people! anyone who volunteers for this will get first pick if the need arises)

if you’re not committed to sending asks to your partner and/or responding to your santa at least a few (2-3) times a week, please do not sign up.

while the primary focus of this project is classic rock, any additional interests you list may be used as a secondary way of helping to find a good match for you. with that in mind, don’t hesitate to list any interests and hobbies you might have, whether they relate to classic rock or not! this will especially come in handy if there are many applicants who like a particular band, or if i am having trouble finding a match for you based on your favorite bands.

if your santa has not contacted you in over a week, message me and i will gently remind them or find you another one.

as a general rule, be nice! anyone who is rude to the another participant will be removed from the project.

make sure to answer all of your santa’s messages! you don’t have to answer right away, but don’t ignore them.

please let me know if you experience any problems at all (for example, if i have made a mistake, or you are having problems with either your own santa or the person you are assigned to)

if you are not already following your partner’s blog, you probably shouldn’t do it right away, because they might guess that you are their santa.

it’s useful to have an easy-to-find “about me” page or pinned post so that your santa will have a better chance of finding something to talk to you about!

please try to keep a note of who you’ve been assigned to, as well as your assigned number!

IF YOU CHANGE YOUR URL AT ANY TIME DURING THE PROJECT PLEASE LET ME KNOW. if you don’t let me know about your new URL (or otherwise make it clear that you have moved), i will not be able to assign matches for you.

please be patient! i will assign matches and answer questions as quickly as possible, but please keep in mind that i have other responsibilities too!

you don’t need to be following me, but i will be sharing updates here, so it would be a good idea to at least keep an eye on that page/tag.

please don’t hesitate to participate! this is supposed to be a fun, lighthearted, seasonal activity, and if you do encounter any issues, i will help you :)

Just for you, a little sneak peak of A Strange Melody:

Gwyn perched on the algae covered rock in the mouth of the Dark Lagoon and stared at the rock in her hand. The onyx stone shot through with bursts of silver like stars, known as a Midnight Stone, served as the calling card for the mysterious entity known only as The Bargainer. At least, according to the rumors.

Many claimed to have met him, but every story about him varied so greatly it was hard to tell what, if any of it, was truth. The one detail that seemed to be consistent was this. The Midnight Stone. Made from bits of a rare element fossilized in hardened ash that was created in the heart of the underground volcanoes of the Northern Sea, one had to venture into the deadlands to seek the stones which- according to the rumors- were used to trade with The Bargainer.

Gwyn had ventured into those dangerous waters just that morning on a whim. A wildly stupid whim, but one that had paid off, as evidenced by the stone now sitting in her palm, the bits of silver star winking at her in the warm evening light. As she glanced up at the sun just disappearing over the horizon, Gwyn clutched the thing in her hand and wondered if this wasn’t the maddest idea she’d ever had before her mouth opened, and she spoke the words that would seal her fate.

“I’d like to make a bargain.”

I also see you have grunge band bracelets that you make and sell. I love that era of music. My favorites are Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains. What are your favorite grunge era bands?

I’ve been on Etsy two, going on three, years now! I would definitely recommend it if you want to give it a shot. It can be a great learning curve. My biggest advice would be to simply try things until you find ‘your thing’, and to have patience.

Awesome!! PJ and AIC are absolutely fantastic and in my top bands of all time, as well! I have a difficult time choosing my top-favorites of anything; but for the grunge bands? I adore AIC, and Nirvana holds a special place in my heart for nostalgia reasons. Soundgarden has an amazing discography, and I think they sometimes get overlooked.
