Hello for the fic meme :D 5 and 15?
hi hi! thanks for the ask : )
5: What part was hardest to write?
ugh definitely the long flashback. I think I started it the second or third day in and was still working on sections the night I posted. there were so many turns in the conversation and too much info/feelings-dumping. I was constantly like ugh this much sharing is so unrealistic and self-indulgent, stop, leave it out, stick it in background character notes or somewhere else. and then I'd be consoling myself: it's ok, they're getting drunk, drunk people can be talkative and overly emotional, the show has ppl randomly spewing feelings and memories, fuck showing I'm gonna tell, let Syd have her moment of just being able to get it all out for once etc 🤪
15: What did you learn from writing this fic?
that when I'm stuck I need to get off the computer and either think about it in the shower or sit down somewhere else with a pen and paper. it worked so consistently, like literally every single time I was actually shocked. good to know for the future, right?!!
in terms of fic content lol I did so much rabbit-hole research (v related to getting stuck ofc) I spent like two days trying to identify various celebrities on the wall of the real Mr. Beef (via yelp and google photos). George Benson took like two minutes but I went through the gauntlet with Robin Robinson, it was so ridiculous. like her autograph is completely illegible and I guessed she was probably a newscaster bc so many of the other photos were and she had newscaster hair. so I was doing all these searches and not to brag but I'm usually v good at research, except I'm lowkey face blind! with the added challenge of pictures online being fairly recent but the photo on the wall is from like the late 70s, early 80s and in black and white. and I have trouble recognizing younger pictures of my parents sometimes lol. I even fb messaged the restaurant and was considering calling them the next working day just to ask. (I do not live at all in the same timezone lol) anyway, I was saved by those youtube accounts that collect clips of regional news station promos and logos. bc I was able to find a contemporaneous clip, show it to my partner (who is very much not face blind lol) and have him confirm yes or no.
so I guess that's a learning: the existence of hobbyists who like to ID and collect news station logos through out the years. compulsive little weirdos coming to the rescue of another compulsive little weirdo how magical
which I guess also ties into the first learning of Get off the damn computer if I'm not writing so I don't go down a spiral of scanning through all the various Fox affiliates of the Midwest or something jeez

Audio Delicacies 2022: Best Podcasts Of The Year Served À La Carte
Podcast listeners are rewarded by the seemingly infinite depth of “ear worthy” podcast content. Podcast listeners also suffer from that same strength. Why? Because, when there are tens of thousands of podcasts worth minutes of your audio focus, two things will happen. First, podcast fans will certainly miss some terrific content. Second, great podcasts will slip into oblivion because listeners don’t know their podcast exists.
That’s one reason why podcast blogs like this one, Podcast Reports, and our sister blog, Ear Worthy, toil in self-inflicted obscurity to connect listeners with podcasts they’d love.
Thankfully, there is a company, Tink Media, that is run by podcast experts, connoisseurs, tastemakers, and bellwethers (Note: I’ll use any synonym to avoid using influencer).
Here’s how Tink Media can help listeners find podcasts that complement their listening interests. The company is like Match.Com, making hookups between podcasts searching for a Platonic yet ear-intensive relationship with listeners, and podcast fans searching desperately for podcasts that “complete them.”
First, Tink Media has developed and released a daily, weekday podcast called Pod-At-Me. The podcast’s premise is simple, yet deliciously inspired.
I’ll let them explain it: “If you’ve called Tink’s podline already, you’ve heard how it works. We feature a new podcast recommendation every week day, and you can leave your own recommendation at the sound of the beep. Honestly, the voicemails make our day. There’s something so delightful about the soundscape as someone is describing a podcast they’re excited for you to listen to.”
Aakshi Sinha of Tink Media says, “This leads us to how podcasters can get involved and do a little shameless, self-promo and fun marketing.”
“The voicemails we receive are added to our list of recommendations for the chance to be featured on the hotline,” Aakshi continues. “That means calling in could get your show featured! Of course, just like any time you’re talking about your show, your recommendation should be as captivating and intriguing as possible!”
Here are some examples already featured on Pod-At-Me:
Meet Lauren Ober. Through her exceptionally raw and honest storytelling, she’s taking us along on her journey of being diagnosed as autistic at the age of 42. In The Loudest Girl in the World, she challenges the stereotypes society holds about autism and helps us rethink what society could look like if it was more inclusive to autistic and neurodivergent people. Lauren is making herself the subject of a very up close and personal documentary to help us all realize how we can be more understanding of ourselves and those around us. Experience neurodiversity in a way it’s never been portrayed before.
When you’re dealing with a dark season of your life, it can feel like the light is so far away. Thankfully, All the Wiser is here to prove that there is hope and possibility on the other side of pain. Host Kimi Culp brings you dramatic stories of survival, the realities of life when facing death, and unforgettable lessons on love and loss. All while donating $2000 every episode to a nonprofit making a difference in the world. Today’s episode is an interview with Meyli Chapin, who survived an attack on a hotel complex in Kenya by Al-Shabaab terrorists that left 22 civilians dead.
The episode I listened to was about 10 minutes in length and was filled with terrific podcast recommendations. For example, I’ve already tried the Tracing The Path podcast, a history podcast with episodes ranging from a town in Norway that banned clocks to Winnie The Pooh and copyright law.
The host of Pod-At-Me, Devin Andrade, has a voice that could lead meditation chants, it’s so soothing. Her comments after each call-in are short, informative, witty and reassuring. The podcast is well produced with superior sound quality, the use of the old-timey telephone ring is inspired, and the pace and length have “perfect pitch.”
Anyway, you can call in yourself with your own recommendation. You can call 844–763–2863 for the Pod-At-Me hotline.
Second, Tink Media has created Audio Delicacies 2022 for podcast listeners.
“I’m thrilled to have contributed to Tink Media’s Audio Delicacies 2022,” begins Tink’s Devin Andrade. “It’s a list of the best podcasts and episodes from 2022 as contributed by over 50 audio creators and industry professionals. Peruse through the complete playlist here.”
Tumblr media
Some of Audio Delicacies’s recommendations include:
FeMANism — “It’s a comedy podcast where Sam Martin and Jamie Hoggart play characters of two clueless bros (trying to be feminists) who give us their own, completely misdirected version of feminism, by leaning heavily into stereotypes, spreading inaccuracies about women and their bodies, making swift, unvalidated judgments, and both interrupting and misinterpreting their female guests. It’s hilarious and an almost painfully accurate take on that guy who thinks he’s lifting women up and loves himself for it. The dialogue is sharp-witted and deeply humorous — Sam and Jamie are the perfect duo to pull off this nifty trick.” Recommended by Lauren Passell, Tink Media.
In the Scenes Behind Plain Sight — “two hosts (using made-up names — even their picture on the show’s tile art is stock imagery), play actors who starred in a mildly successful TV show 20 years ago called Behind Plain Sight (I’ll save you the IMDB search…it is completely made up), filling each episode with their podcast dissecting and sharing memories of an episode that…never existed. The podcast is gloriously bad, by design, and just keeps entertaining you with goofs on Hollywood, podcasting, and dying dreams of faded glory. The whole thing is just brilliant.” Recommended by — Eric Nuzum, Co-founder, Magnificent Noise.
Banned — “This episode dropped after we learned that Roe would potentially be overturned, but before it actually happened in June. There was a heightened sense of awareness surrounding the situation, but I don’t think the average person knew too much about the Pink House at the center of it all. When I lived in Jackson, Mississippi, I lived walking distance from the house. I passed it regularly. I still have good friends who live nearby.” Recommended by — Arielle Nissenblatt, Founder of EarBuds Podcast Collective, Head of Community & Content at SquadCast.fm
Check out Audio Delicacies 2022 for a smorgasbord of great podcast content. It’s low-cal, completely organic, even gluten-free, that is guaranteed to make your ears perk up and your mind to light up.

FLP CHAPBOOK OF THE DAY: We by Michael Gurshtein
PREORDER NOW: https://www.finishinglinepress.com/product/we-by-michael-gurshtein/
We is the perpetual outsider’s struggle to find the common elements of humanity within and for himself. Ranging from personal battles and hurts to the universal challenges everyone must face sooner or later, this cycle seeks to take the long view of life and stumble its way into the sense of lasting peace championed by great philosophers throughout history. It is left to the reader to decide whether the attempt is successful or futile.
Michael Aleksandrovich Gurshtein was born in Moscow, Russia and lived there through the fall of the Soviet Union. In 1995, his family traded the metropolitan bustle of Moscow for the peaceful quiet of small-town Colorado. Michael returned to big city life following his time at the University of Colorado, settling in Denver, where he continues to live to this day.
Michael’s life has always been strongly driven by books and theatre. Through these media, he has endlessly explored history, philosophy, science, and art, and continues to find fascination in the ongoing human conversation about what it means to be here and what makes life interesting and worthwhile. His sincerest hope is to add value with his voice to that conversation.
Michael spends his time acting, practicing martial arts, learning new languages, diving down historic rabbit holes, concocting and chasing adventures, and delving into the multi-faceted, complex nature of human relationships. By day, he sometimes masquerades as an engineer.
ADVANCE PRAISE FOR We by Michael Gurshtein
“Michael Gurshtein‘s poetry collection We is a lyrical cry for us all to look within and a comforting testimony of finding home and peace within oneself. His poems are also a testament to the immigrant’s experience of seeking a life that includes hope. The banality of daily events is given a divinity by Gurshtein as he encourages the reader to both seize the day (you could die that day) and practice gratitude for the richness of life and also the ‘trivial things.’ Throughout the collection he explores the dichotomy of inner and outer worlds – daring us to look within and find our salvation there. The motifs of time, family, foundations, and love appear throughout this vibrant collection as Gurshtein suggests that with a little ‘[blind stumbling]’ we shall ‘encounter all the fruit we seek.'”
–Cristina A. Bejan, Green Horses on the Walls (Finishing Line Press, 2020)
“It’s amazing how two small letters — “w” and “e”—sitting side by side can hold so much meaning. The word “we” is used when a speaker refers to her/him/their self in consideration of togetherness with one or more other people. “We” is, therefore, a perfect title for Michael Gurshtein‘s beautiful new collection of poems, because it is a thoughtful and deeply felt reflection on how the parts of our selves fit together both singularly and collectively. These poems are filled with a search for personal truth and that search is made up of equal parts longing and gratitude. I felt and thought so many things while engaged with this book; more than anything, though, it felt like a celebratory meditation of what and who we are at any given moment in time.”
–Jeffrey Neuman, Playwright and Literary Events Coordinator

Kyle for the ask game! 💕💕💕
The last one was bit long already without my Kyle so here's long version for @sunshine-ships
What made me like them
Similarly to Deacon, how relatable he is. Kyle tends to say things anyone would in his situation, but not everyone would go to the lengths he goes to help others, on top of the danger to his own life.
He's also somewhat pacifistic in nature, he only ever kills in self-defense (unless you do every challenge in game, but in main story he does) which is rare in zombie genre as a whole, especially in video games.
Kyle does share this search for danger - if player chooses to do the additional night challenges - but in contrast to say Frank or mentioned Joel, Kyle gets into danger in order to help someone else, often as byproduct of him trying to help in first place.
He's just badass too, but not purely in combat, his strength lies in his agility, how good he is at parkouring and evading the enemy. This sets him apart from other protagonists who usually use just raw power to cut through anything (like Joel, Lee, Frank etc) and it's refreshing to see and as much as I love a strong man as romantic partner, there is certain allure to a man who relies on other kind of skill and talking to do the job.
His voice is so soothing, I just instantly trust guys who's voices I like, I'm sorry.
Also he's cute.
There's so many reasons I love him & what made me like him but some I've already discussed in detail many times or shown, like his interactions with children.
-My favorite thing about them
His compassion.
It's the force that drives him forward, this need to help anyone he can in any way that he can.
I know I put emphasis on the fact he's legend in Harran, but for me, the legendary thing about him is his compassion. Rarely a zombie genre protagonist is this close to outright saint, as close as you can get with this. I'd argue he is the closest to a saint you can be in the setting without dying. But even saints have limits, he's no pushover.
-Nicknames we have for each other
Kyle calls me ace. Because I like it and it validates me and he would say it. It sounds so Kyle thing to call someone he adores as such.
I call him braveheart, loverboy or Kyley if I want to tease him. The last one is rare for me to use and it's relatively new.
-A headcanon of our relationship
I think we'd have this calm and steady relationship, sort of like a haven in midst of chaos we live in, a resemblance of normalcy.
We aren't that disgustingly sappy, affectionate couple but you can tell we completely adore one another from the way we put each other first, through the looks we give and the vibe we just radiate.
Many of my ships involve some aspect of saving the other from pain or trauma or outright worship of another, putting them on pedestal. This ship of mine lacks that aspect and in my own opinion is one of the most grounded ones I have. We might start as emotional support to each other, reeling dangerously close to living emotional clutch, especially for me,but in the end I think we're one of the most stable couples my mind has conjured. We share same ideals, similar morals.
Kyle with me is just one of my favorites. Even if I don't talk about Kyle as much as say, Frankie or Blazkowicz.
-My favorite image of them
Tumblr media
This purely because I get to see him in 3rd view glory in almost full-body shot. Whoever made this & how has my eternal thanks.
Tumblr media
This is just chef kiss worthy of a photo also I don't think he even has this outfit but he looks so good in that orange. There he also goes being strategist.
Tumblr media
This promo/official picture of him my beloved. I guess it's the stance he has or it's like one of only official pictures there is of him from the front this clearly, as others are usually from the back or incredibly far away to focus or has multiples of him because co-op.
Tumblr media
Lastly this one. I love the angle this is shot from, like the viewer is looking him bit upwards. The stance and outfit are immaculate (though the outfit in game is missing the scarf around his mouth).
-Anything else!
I'll spite canon if Dying Light 2 does canonize his fate in anyway I don't like.
I tend to forget he's bitten even when the story does have some far apart reminders. In my canon he just isn't lol, it's too much hassle to guess whenever or not a kiss could turn you into a viral in Dying Light.

Hello AJ. Shy anon here. I recently started watching MJHT and I recall you've watched the show too. I haven't gone too far ahead but I just noticed that Nupur has a lot of similarities with Khushi. (Which is funny because Sanaya is in it as Gunjan who's like such a contrast to Khushi and Nupur). The very first similarity I actually noticed was the clothing, specifically the bangles. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the show. Just any thoughts. I really enjoy when you deep dive and dissect shows and storylines. I hope you're doing well. Bye 🥰
Hello Shy Anon!!!!
Oh I love that show and its cheesiness to every bit! It had the perfect everything - romance, comedy, drama and an excellent way to show a parallel lead that rarely happens now cause the whole focus goes to literally one character...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DAMN THOSE DAYS!!!
Oh Nupur? Haye!
Tumblr media
(long exploration of Khushi, Nupur, Mayank, Samrat under cut)
Yes, Nupur and Khushi have a LOT of similarities because:
1) They represent the classic Indian television female lead; manic pixie, colorful, quirky, witty, middle class, wears tons of jewelry such as bangles and earrings and a Bollywood loving dream girl. This is ITV’s basic template for every heroine. Nupur and Khushi are just the far better and memorable ones.
2) They’re also written by the same writer!
However in my opinion Nupur is a slightly more fleshed out and stronger character because:
- She never compromises with her self respect.
- Balances tradition and progressive thinking very well.
- Keeps grudges and demands apologies when she’s been hurt.
- Knows how to communicate.
- Allows people to depend on her as much as she depends on them.
- Is always a sister first, lover second.
- Has ambitions, career, education but ALSO loves romance, marriage, etc.
- GROWS as a character. She starts from being too eager to fit in, naive, unaware, to mature, proud of her roots, intimidating :)
- Knows when to apologize, works on her ego.
- Is fiercely independent post marriage and loves being ‘Nupur Bhushan’ as much as ‘Mrs. Mayank Sharma’.
Nupur would never work with ASR. She’d kill him. No doubt. And sue his dead body.
Tumblr media
Also I think given she was a Star One heroine, the writer/s had more room to develop her as an independent woman as opposed to the perfect ‘bahu’ which is what star plus literally demands from all of its heroines.
Nupur never had to fit in Mayank’s household nor meet the ‘Sharma’s’ expectations unlike Khushi who is inborn with what they expect from a Raizada bahu. There’s no standard at the Sharma household. Their ‘ideal’ bahu is one who’s independent and has her own persona. Like Mayank’s mum and Nupur.
I feel Khushi would’ve been more like Nupur if IPK was made as a Star One show. She’d be a slightly calmer, more orthodox and more childlike than Nupur but yeah, actually be treated as an independent character.
Lol, I realised what a brilliant actor Sanaya was when I saw her interviews!
Also, let’s just say that Gunjan was path breaking as an ITV lead.
She’s everything you’d expect in a ‘male lead’ and so different from what they catered.
- She’s extremely intelligent, anti social, a scholar, fiercely loyal to her family, mature, pragmatic, practical and is acutely aware of her surroundings. She’s proud of who she is - even though she is intimidated of new spaces and people. A classic introvert who’s very new to Mumbai. You’ll notice later in the show that she’s a no bullshit woman and her hurt, grief lasts for years.
Unlike other female characters who go over their emotions in a flip and their hurt is never addressed, Gunjan has difficulty moving on from her pain and takes a lot of time to come to terms with her emotions. Also, she’s incredibly sorted and slightly naive about the matters of heart.
She’s so guarded that she ends up hurting the person she loves.
Now I feel ASR and Gunjan would be excellent friends if they met in college. Their personalities and pride on education and intelligence is at par - they’re equals if you ask me.
AND COMING TO MY FAVORITE BOIS - MAYANK AND SAMRAT.
SAMRAT IS MY ETERNAL LOVE. THEIR BROMANCE IS EVERYTHING AND SAMRAT IS THE SWEETEST PUP WITH THE MOST EPIC CHARACTER GROWTH. YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHY. HE IS THE BEST MALE HERO ON TELEVISION. BOY IS JUST... SO FREAKING NICE. BEING HOT DOES NOT MEAN YOU’RE A DICK. HE’S HOT AND SWEET AND EVERYTHING!!!!
Tumblr media
Mayank, I love him. Again, I feel he’s a very mellowed version of ASR. Quick to judge, “once good opinion lost, then lost forever” types (*cough* Darcy), attached to his mum, does not take being lied to very well, is very single focused, slightly self absorbed, refuses feelings for like a billion years, likes being ‘self made’ and is proud of who he is. Also, secretly loves challenges *lol*
Tumblr media
In my eyes MJHT, despite being kitschy, cheesy, very 2000s with a barely passable wardrobe, remains as a much superior show than IPK just in terms of writing and characters. Yeah, they do have shit plots in between and you go WTF but in general they never really compromise on the female nor male leads. I mean I wish they went a hundred episodes less but still...
They really focus on fostering a healthy relationship between all the important characters and not just love, but also - most importantly - friendship. In that way, it was incredibly mature writing. I will defend this show with my last breath! AND CAN I SAY THIS SHOW HAD AN ENDING? LIKE A PROPER ENDING?
Tumblr media
THEIR ENDING WAS THE EXACT REVERSE OF THE FIRST PROMO MJHT EVER RELEASED AND I CRIED. *spoiler no spoiler but if you can ever search for the “love bole toh...” promo then you’ll know what I mean when you’re done with the show*
I’ll tell you where IPK surpasses MJHT - production value, subtlety, background scoring, direction and chemistry. Like Samrat/Gunjan, Mayank/Nupur will give you all the feelz for sure (and I was so damn excited when I learned that Mohit and Sanaya are a real life couple) but there’s something different with Arnav and Khushi. You can’t tear your eyes away from them and I think it’s because Sanaya and Barun are... brilliant actors.
Tumblr media
Barun, especially, is a rare gem.
Tumblr media
But apart from that, enjoy MJHT and keep me posted! Also you should write to @leila1 - she’s another MJHT lover like us!!!
THANK YOU FOR THROWING ME BACK INTO MY BACHPAN FEELZ

chazzawrites challenge #26
26. Self promo time! Share a snippet from another project that you’re proud of.
Yikes, I really only have the one, so...have another excerpt from The Stray Spirit, I guess:
There was no sign of Cal or Aspen in the fray.
But there was a glimpse of Marie.
“Marie!” he stumbled up to her. “You all right? Have you seen Cal?”
“Cal?” Marie was already clutching two of her other friends. “I saw her running out of the quad with the other boy, the one with the lute.”
 “When?”
“After the quake stopped, I think-“
“Thank Hara.” He rushed away, but quickly lost momentum in the crowd. In the sea of faces, there was no telling anyone apart, no telling where they could have gone. So he searched for a high point- the cracked ivory steps of the music building- and joined dozens of others who were having the same idea.
“Cal!” he forced out a hoarse shout. “Aspen!”
But this was no stage, and his voice melted in with the desperate cries of the other students. Some of them succeeded in their search, stumbling down into the arms of their missing loved one as they washed up like castaways at the base of the steps. Others gasped and rushed off as friends climbed the stairs and delivered news- though good or bad, Emry couldn’t hear. He wasn’t even hearing his own voice anymore.
 “Aspen! Cal!”
“Em!” Someone began to drive a determined line through the crowd, shoving their way towards the base of the steps. “Stay there!”

My Trip to Omega Mart
Opened in 2021, Omega Mart is an immersive art experience that utilizes numerous artistic mediums to tell a layered and thematically rich story to guests. A story that actively involves the guest in various different ways, challenging their sense of physical space, as well as eliciting questions of consumerism, family, love, and even the nature human connection. This story is told within a massive space comprised of roughly four main physical spaces, each with their own smaller spaces wherein guests may engage with physical media to the level of their interest. Omega Mart was developed by an artist collective known as Meow Wolf, a group formed in 2008 that specializes in immersive art experiences that are often referred to as psychedelic, dreamlike environments. Previous works include The Due Return, an immersive art experience depicting an alien ship that travels through time, The House of Eternal Return, an immersive experience showcasing a house that seemingly exists in multiple dimensions, and various other immersive art experiences across the country. I visited Omega Mart, located in Las Vegas, recently and this piece will focus on my visit. Please keep in mind that Omega Mart is often updated in small ways and some of my account may not totally reflect your visit, be it in the past or future. Along with that, I will be going into great detail about my experience and if you plan to visit Omega Mart with no prior knowledge, you may not want to read this until after you visit.
Omega Mart, is located within Area 15, an immersive art space located near the Las Vegas strip. As you enter, you’ll find yourself in massive blacklit warehouse that’s a sort of psychedelic mall. Individual kiosks show glow in the dark shirts and various other rave theme toys. To the left, lies the massive front entrance of Omega Mart. Flanking the entrance are walls with various advertisements for Dramcorp products that you’ll find inside. The entrance itself takes the form of an omega symbol, the central arch being a sort of portal inside. Once you enter, you find yourself inside, where else, Omega Mart. All around you are neatly organize aisles of typical products like cereal, household cleaners, salt and spices, like any other mall. The produce section lies to your left, meats to your right. A bluish glow from the fluorescent lights above gives the same sense of blah that you’d find in superstores like Wal Mart; inoffensive smooth jazz warbles out from speakers above you. It’s all drab and expected, until you pay closer attention. The products are all hilariously surreal, and there are truly hundreds of them on the fully stocked shelves. You’ll find cans of tattooed chicken, bottles of gender fluid, even zalg “America’s forgotten vegetable!” As you inspect the items their enticing labels show something more sinister going on. Most continue the absurd humor but a few seem to break brand style and urge you, beg you, to wake up from what you’re doing, to run away from where you are, to get back to reality, if it even exists any more. At times, the music will seemingly forget its place and skip incessantly as it repeats the same few seconds of music over and over to a maddening degree, only to go back to normal as though nothing happened. At other times, we hear Walter Dram, former CEO and founder of Omega Mart, and parent company Dramcorp, talk through the speakers. He’s exhausted, coughing and barely able to speak, halfheartedly assuring us that Omega Mart is the best supermarket in the universe, the he is Omega Mart, Omega Mart is him. He almost stumbles over his words, telling us about savings and being endlessly lost in the store. This story continues in the produce section, where on video, Walter advertises Omega Mart’s Valley of Plenty in-store brand. There, he, along with daughter Cecelia (heir apparent to Omega Mart and Dramcorp), showcase the incredible fruits and vegetables available for sale. He describes how he found the valley of plenty and admired the hard working local farmers as, taking the opportunity to share the fruits of their labor with the world. Just as the promo video ends, Walter drops his commercial persona and turns into his true exhausted self. He asks if he has to do it again. Cecelia reminds him that it’s his job, that soon she’ll take his place and that for now it is his duty to work. Walter sighs, resigned to his fate. Moments later, the commercial begins again, Walter repeats his spiel.
As you explore, you’ll find various hideaways that take you to different locations. One such vestibule is the janitor’s closet, which houses nightmarish creatures made from brooms and mops. Their wood handle necks twist around and their fringed rag tails drip with glowing slime. Once you pass through, you enter the Dramcorp factory floor. Unlike the clean(ish) plastic of Omega Mart, the factory is a metallic horror of purplish browns, machines groan all around you as vile liquids ooze through pipes. On the floor above lies Dramcorp’s corporate offices with ominous glows seeping out from its closed doors. Here in the factory, you learn that Dramcorp has been utilizing something called, “Source” to develop and manufacture new products. Omega Mart itself is somehow fully infused with the dreamy, psychotropic qualities of source, but Dramcorp has refined it to make products addicting on a spiritual level. In one hidden corner we find a glowing orb that once was Walter Dram. He laments about his greed and how he went too far in his pursuit of profit. Now, his daughter Cecelia runs Dramcorp and he can only watch as she continues to be woman he raised her to be. Throughout the factory you’ll see that the refinement process is messy and various factory machinery are in disarray as employees try to clean up emotional messes and bliss outbreaks. Signs warn you of rooms with giant bugs or maddening corridors. In another corner, a particularly broken machine is spilling source runoff as a river out of the factory and into Seven Monolith Village.
Seven Monolith Village is a small valley community in the Nevada desert where Dramcorp’s source runoff pools. Here, the psychedelic energy of the source has transformed the sleepy town into a living Alex Gray painting. The sun bleached rocks crack open with bright colored lines and massive desert wildlife like wolves and snakes now glow in fractal patterns. Giant humanoids made of pure energy slowly appear around you, only to disappear from our plane of existence moments later. Exploring the village leads us to find that the town has been ravaged by Dramcorp’s pollution and is near uninhabitable. One of the few people left Charlie Dram, owner of the local gas station and estranged brother of Walter. In his small gas station, we see that Charlie has begun a new business of collecting source runoff and selling it as a sort of psychedelic elixir. His phone regularly rings with calls from regular customers looking to make purchases from Charlie, many of them Dramcorp employees looking for an escape from their corporate lives.
Next door to Charlie is a small shack that’s home to Marin Dram, grandniece of Charlie and daughter of Cecelia Dram. Looking through her room we learn her story. Years ago, Cecelia, along with her father Walter, discovered the original, raw source, a remnant of ancient visitors to our Earth from a parallel dimension. Drinking of that well, Cecelia and Walter discovered receive a divine vision for how to make Omega Mart the most profitable supermarket in the multiverse. From there, they tirelessly worked to study the source, finding that it is the wellspring from which all life emerged and all ideas come from. With this knowledge, they developed Omega Mart’s products as addicting and powerfully satisfying. Along with that however, came Marin, an immaculate conception born of both Cecelia and source, with strange abilities unseen by anyone before. Marin was raised by Charlie while her mother was busy running the company, but Cecelia began taking an interest in Marin and the potential for her to lead Dramcorp and Omega Mart into a new age of even greater prosperity. Pushed too far by her mother’s need to groom her into the next CEO, Marin opened a portal and fled our world for somewhere else, and everyone has been looking for her since. The only remains of Marin are lingering projections of her dreams, surreal music videos of being tormented by her mother, teen heartbreak, and visitations from ethereal beings. Now, all of Seven Monolith Village and Dramcorp alike are searching for Marin, to save her, or use her.
Nearby in another home within 7MV you are drafted into the fight against Dramcorp by an anarchist group fighting against the capitalist propaganda and the abuse against human lives, as well as the earth itself. You must venture back into Omega Mart, as well as Dramcorp’s factory, and hack into their systems before you finally enter the corporate offices.
Dramcorp’s offices are a nightmarish cavern of cubicles, computers, and offices. The executive portraits have haunting smiles and smoke billows from all around as lights flash in strange patterns. Behind each test facility door are horrific sounds and lights. Each office tells a small story of business drones that work tirelessly in hopes of one day ascending into management nirvana where they will exist fully with the company. All the while, employees drown themselves in the very same poisonous runoff elixirs that they sell in the store downstairs. After hacking into all three branches of Dramcorp’s reach, my involvement with Meow Wolf’s story was complete, though I suspect more is yet to come were I to visit again in the future.
Omega Mart is rich with themes that comment on capitalism, spirituality, emotional relationships, and much more. The biggest difficulty that has always pervaded immersive art experiences, even those that can be found at theme parks like Walt Disney World, is the difficulty in having thematic density when the audience is not guaranteed to be interacting with the art as intended. While other mediums have the benefit of standardized ways to consume them such as film or literature, immersive art spaces have no set path in which the guest should traverse the space, nor even the guarantee that guests will be able to have the time to interact with the art in ways sufficient of fully understanding the plot. Because of this, many immersive experiences rely on using a heavier hand with its themes and utilizing narrative devices that directly speak to the audience. Commonly, this comes in the form of narration that speaks directly to the audience. Meow Wolf however, takes the risk of the audience not being able to experience the story in the event that they miss key elements. Meow Wolf mitigates this by making it clear through the use of electronic media and hiding certain show elements that guests should be in somewhat of a scavenger hunt mindset. While most of the guests I noticed on my visit had no prior knowledge of their Omega Mart experience involving a story, it was very clear upon entering to everyone that a major aspect of their visit would be interacting with the story should they choose. Meow Wolf themselves have stated that they look to make their stories accessible to all people on the level of the audience’s choosing. A visitor to Omega Mart would not feel ripped off by having not experienced the full story, but rather someone might feel as though their ticket gained value for having fully experienced the depth of Omega Mart’s characters and world.
Even so, there is still a challenge when designing the story that comes with the nature of the medium of immersive art. Truly, there is no one specific art form that takes center stage here. Each room in Omega Mart could potentially involved artistic use of light, sound (musical and practical), wood work, print design, sculpture, painting, writing, and much more. The challenge in designing Omega Mart is to not only make individual pieces of art that resonate with the audience, but to bring them together within a space that is narratively cohesive rather than just a series of interesting things in a large room. Meow Wolf’s artists were able to pull that off. A common example of that level of connectivity is the referential nature of each space, details in one room would be seen in other rooms, often with new contexts and plot information that would provide greater thematic depth. Many of the humorous gag items available in the grocery store’s aisles could also be found in Dramcorp’s development offices where they could be viewed not as the silly puns you originally saw them as, but now as cynical totems designed on a molecular level to be addicting to consumers. Even more than that, the overall story itself would only be possible by intricately weaving a story throughout the space in a way that guests could understand how each room referenced the other together to create the whole. The end result being an experience in which guests can fully feel as though they visited specific places, met complex individuals, and had meaningful interactions, all of which I did during my trip.
One of my biggest concerns before visiting was that Omega Mart’s story would be told in a way that said overarching ideas that were ultimately hollow. I dreaded that the only message Meow Wolf would leave me with is the trite “Corporation Bad” that so many hollow pieces of art tout. While a far more nuanced anticapitalism message is a major theme of Omega Mart, the story itself smartly anchors itself within the story Marin Dram. Marin’s story is one that I personally found to be profoundly relatable. The echoing dream in her bedroom mirror has stuck with me for days after my visit, along with the incredibly vaginal nightmare in a nook nearby. Marin’s story reflects each of the themes of Omega Mart’s message, that of feeling used by other, tied between two worlds, and the commodification of bodies for the sake of industry. There is a terrible sadness that I felt in my core as Marin cried at the school dance, only moments later to be covered in milk and cereal by her mother in some feeble attempt to become one with the family business. More than that, the Dramcorp, and the Dram family’s Cecelia and Walter themselves, tout plastic products as the quick fix solution to loneliness. We’re urged to question how we fill our own emptiness with products, or even how we use others as a means to an end. Walter and Cecelia use and consume their loved ones for their goals in much the same way Omega Mart’s customers are primed to use ridiculous products. There is a sadness to the way Cecelia can only connect to others through consumption. She can only connect to her daughter by offering products, she puts her father in the source well to be consumed by the store, ultimately she’ll be consumed herself by whomever is her successor as CEO. Everything in Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart experience is punctuated by the ways they can be balled up in put into your mouth for digestion.
As an aside, I am somewhat disappointed in how prevalent the discussion of Omega Mart’s lore is both at the experience and online. Much of the discussion’s online is primarily about dissecting the origin of the source, the details of dark nula and light nula, and various other inconsequential details related to the world that props up the thematic meat of Omega Mart. Omega Mart, while not bashing the audience with its message, is not particularly subtle with what it wants to say. It is abundantly clear that Omega Mart’s messages of anticapitalism and reverence for emotional connection are the intended takeaways. One of the biggest drawbacks in how Omega Mart tells its story is the moments in which, typically on phones, the audience is given a neat summary on everything in the story so far. This is very much a personal gripe.
Omega Mart’s most prominent medium is perhaps space itself. The uniting factor in every individual piece of art that makes up the whole is the unification of space itself, and the clear delineation of crossing the threshold from space that is wholly not Omega Mart, into a space that wholly is. Within that space, Omega Mart’s guests will find themselves walking, climbing, crawling, and even sliding at they traverse the location. We see this create transitionary vestibules like the janitor’s closet from earlier, but also a space bending soda freezer or even a staircase from the store to the offices that has the numbing drone of music fade into haunting groans with each step. As guests traverse the space they also find themselves crossing paths with staff and other guests, all of which flesh out Omega Mart just by the vary nature of being there together. Guests will find themselves falling back into the same patterns and habits they exhibit when visiting real grocery stores, struggling to pass each other in cramped aisles, knocking baskets accidentally and apologizing, all the motions of a grocery store, but none of the actual purposeful substance of visiting a normal grocery store. This contrasts with the purposeful halts guests will make when experiencing the dreams in Marin’s room, stopped and fully enraptured by a story beat. While Omega Mart as an experience is easily considered hard to describe, the actions guests take while there, reading, talking on the phone, navigating a blog, walking up stair, are all deceptively simple.
However, this comes at a cost. Omega Mart, like much of Meow Wolf’s previous work, is not particularly accessible to many different types of people. The House of Eternal Return has been criticized in the past for not being wheelchair accessible. Omega Mart remedies this by always having multiple ways to access new areas including wide open pathways and an elevator, but the thrill of tunnels, rock climbing, and narrow passages are impossible to experience. Really, anyone who is not able bodied and below a certain size will have challenges when experiencing Omega Mart. Not only that, Omega Mart’s usage of the full emotional spectrum means that some experiences, specifically those that utilize sensory overload to intentionally elicit anxiety in guests, would be almost impossible for many neurodivergent guests, or just guests with sensory difficulties. None of the main experiences and plot requires guests to directly engage with intense rooms or inaccessible spaces, but there still might be a disappointment in some guests when finding that they are unable to fully experience every inch of Omega Mart.
Meow Wolf has been around since 2008, but beginning with the opening of House of Eternal Return in 2016, Meow Wolf has exploded in popularity and is noted by the theme park industry as a group to watch. House of Eternal Return even received an award for outstanding achievement by the Themed Entertainment Association, one of the industry’s highest honors. While many people are oblivious to the small movements within the themed entertainment industry, the larger pushes done by groups like Disney and Universal do get noticed by the general vacationing public. Some have noted that what Meow Wolf is doing today, could in fact be what Disney is doing a few years from now. Meow Wolf’s principles could be most applicable in the upcoming Galactic Starcruiser experience that also promises to be similarly immersive and engaging to guests. More than that, Meow Wolf does consider their work to be made for the general public rather than niche crowds of art lovers and theme park fans. This is clearly evidenced by how many guests I saw at Omega Mart surprised to find out there was a story at play, some of which actively chose to not engage with in out of disinterest. One does wonder if a version of Meow Wolf’s immersive experiences, bigger than an escape room but not quite EPCOT, that tells a complex story with characters and themes, could be common relatively common place for most people to visit. Meow Wolf is wholly unique in their execution, but spaces of play, even for adults, aren’t. At the same time, while Dave and Buster’s and barcades may be popular, how likely is it that middle class office workers would clock out and head to something like Omega Mart? Even beyond that, Meow Wolf actively updates their experiences in various ways and their website encourage guests to visit at least once a year. I certainly would not be opposed to visiting again in a year, but the experience would be less akin to going on a rollercoaster a second time and more like rewatching a movie. I can’t see typical socialization, small talk and the like, occurring in a place like Omega Mart.
Ultimately, Omega Mart sets out to, and very much does, create a thematically rich experience that is truly mind bending and challenges the ways we consider our traversal of space, and our connections with others. While everyone will likely come out with a different experience to varying levels of intensity, I personally found my trip to be one of the most spiritually intense experiences of my life, one that drastically made me rethink my relationship to others, as well as to myself. I don’t think visiting Omega Mart should require pre and post consultation with a therapist, but I do encourage guests to be prepared to have at least one of their ideas about the world to be radically challenged. Time will tell if Meow Wolf’s continued work in the world of immersive art experiences is sustainable with an audience, but for now Omega Mart is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before and afterwards you may find yourself to be unlike you were when you entered.

I’m a new studyblr, and I was wondering if you had any tips on studyblr in general? Do I have to make a studyblr intro or anything, and how would you recommend I get involved in the community? Thank you!
hi anon! first of all: WELCOME TO THE COMMUNITY!!!
thank you so much for reaching out and please feel free to message me or send me an ask any time!
here are some of my tips for a new studyblr:
make a studyblr intro post!
this is very useful for a number of reasons:
firstly, it allows you to introduce yourself and give your name (or nickname), interests and hobbies etc. this is really important in the studyblr community because at the end of the day we are all people and we want to meet others who share similar interests. you could also give your country (only if you are comfortable with this) if you want to find soem studyblrs to conenct with who are from your country/speak your language
secondly, it is a really good place to let people know what you are studying! i would suggest including the subjects you are studying and your level of study (eg uni or hs). this is helpful because people who study the sames things as you (or maybe did in the past) can reach out and you can build a mini support system!
thirdly, it gives you the chance to tag the studyblrs that inspired you! this is useful because these studyblrs will usually reblog your post which allows you reach a wider bunch of people (who could then reach out to you for the reasons above). i personally always reblog any intro posts that i’m tagged in (and lots that i’m not) and i will check out the blog and have a look at your posts (and probably reblog a few or put them in my queue). also, just generally i always find it so nice to hear that my blog has inspired someone! i just makes my day
think of a tagging system!
this doesn’t have to be very complex just think about what you will tag on your posts so you can keep track of them (eg. you could tag posts that you reblog that you think will be useful in the future with #ref). i would especially recommend having a specific tag for your original content (for example my tag for this is #my notes) and/or your text posts (my tags for this are #sophie speaks and #me). it’s quite useful to put your tag for original content in your bio so people finding your blog can quickly find your original content
if your blog is a sideblog, let people know!
you don’t *have* to do this, however, i would personally recommend doing it because it can sometimes be confusing when i see people comment on my posts and it is a random blog that i’ve never seen before and isn’t even studyblr. often if i check it and look deeply, it is just the main blog of one of my mutuals. so i personally think it is quite useful to put your main blog in your studyblr bio (if it is a sideblog) so that people know that it is you when you comment/send asks etc. it also lets people know that you follow back through your main account
now for getting involved in the community:
send asks and messages to people!
you are already doing pretty well on this one considering you’ve sent me this ask! but i highly recommend sending asks to people, for example, if they reblog an ask game post or even just asking for some advice because they will start to recognise you as someone who is engaged with their blog and you could also learn something new about one of your favourite studyblrs!
messages are also a great, slightly more personal, way to interact with people. it can be as simple as messaging people to tell them you love their blog, or again asking them for some advice. if they do a post about a test or exam that they have coming up, you could even message them good luck or ask how it went. i have had some amazing conversations with people through messages and it is a great way to meet new people
just a reminder: always be respectful and polite in messages and asks to ensure that the community remains positive
reblog posts with a comment on their posts!
(or just add a comment, although this could be confusing if your studyblr is a side blog so just be warned [see above])
this is a really nice way to let people know you’ve seen their post and it is always nice to give feedback. a comment can be as simple as: i love your handwriting! or good luck in that test! but that simple message reaching out it so nice to get! also, reblogging is really helpful to blogs because it means more people see the post
join a challenge!
ok, so i’ve had this blog for about a year and a half now and i had a pretty decent amount of followers (which i seriously do not understand XD) but i never got the same amount of interaction and involvement in the studyblr community until i created my #2020 quarantine challenge (click here if you wanna find out about this). i would get reblogs and likes on posts but i don't think that i used to get nearly as much interaction with my posts with people leaving comments and stuff. furthermore, although i had blogs where we were technically mutuals, i didn’t really have mutuals like i do know where we actively keep in touch and check out each other’s posts all the time and stuff and that is honestly the nicest thing
challenges mean that you are most likely posting every day (or at the very least pretty regularly if you cannot manage every day) and this is good because you post lots of new content for people to discover. another great thing is that there is usually a tag that you can search for and scroll through and find others who are doing the challenge alongside you. the person who created the challenge also probably checks the tag out every few days and reblogs the posts
for these reasons, i cannot highlight how amazing challenges are for interaction and getting involved in the community!
(btw, this isn’t just a self promo for my own challenge - although i would love for you to join in cause i love seeing what everyone posts - it is just that this is the challenge that i am currently involved in and i know is going on right now! i also know that @stu-dna (amazing studyblr for the record - you shoudl defintely follow) has done a few challenges in the past which have been so fun even though i was really bad at keeping up with them XD so check out her blog so you’ll know if she does another one!)
These are all the things i can think of right now! i really hope this was helpful and is you have any questions, or want me to explain anything further, just send me another ask and i’ll do my best to help!
- Sophie xxx
P.S. >  let me know what your studyblr is and i’ll definitely check it out

i get by with a little help from my friends || jamestan
when:during filming for Pam and Tommy
description: Lily has a panic attack after reading some negtive comments about the casting choice for her as Pamela. Sebastain is there to help her.

lily
Lily had just changed out of her final costume, it was all starting to feel real. This was so crazy. She had never done a role like this before but she always wanted push herself, if it didn’t slightly scare her, then she figured it wasn’t worth doing. Lily went back to the green room and made herself a coffee, she was waiting to see if they needed her for anything else. Lily sat on the sofa, her legs folded underneath her. At first she was just scrolling through Instagram but then she did something that she regretted. She searched her name on Twitter. Lily never did anything like that, and she fully regretted it in an instant. There were so many tweets talking about how there were so many ‘better’ options than her to play the part. Looking through the list of names, Lily started to doubt. Would all these people be better than her? Would she be able to pull this off. She put her phone down and wiped the corner of her eyes, trying to calm her breathing down but her thoughts were already running away with her.
seb
Sebastian was in wardrobe undressing from the last scene, unsure if he needed to get ready for the next one. This role was thrilling for the older Romanian because he had openly expressed at comic con years before how playing a part in a motley crew movie would be his absolute dream role. And here he was, about to play fucking Tommy Lee - his emo phase finally paying off. He had prepped immensely for the role, dropping a ton of weight but still keeping fit to stay true to the part all while wrapping his last movie in Vancouver and doing promo for the falcon and winter soldier. His life felt like it was on overdrive but he wasn’t mad about it in the slightest. The costume designer gave him to the okay to end the day and the older male couldn’t have been happier to wrap after the long day. He thanked the costume designer before saying goodbye and making his way out. Where did Lily go? he thought to himself, wanting to at least see his fellow costar before he left and to also let her know the cast and crew could head home. Sebastian asked around to a few people before being directed to the green room, a smile instantly pulling from his face as he saw his costar sitting on the sofa. “Lils! Hey! Everyone is...” his enthusiastic voice trailed off into in a mere whisper as he saw how upset the younger blonde look. Had she been crying? He questioned himself, closing the door behind him to allow them some privacy. “Is everything okay?” He asked cautiously, not wanting to step on any toes. They had gotten to know each other before all this started, but this was their first personal interaction and he just wanted to make sure he followed her lead and didn’t do anything to disrespect or make her feel uncomfortable.
lily
Lily knew it was a bad idea, but when she started, she couldn't stop. It seemed that everyone was against her these days. It was one of the reasons she was so excited to move to LA and get started on a new project but it just brought her back into how she felt before she left. People were calling for the likes of Megan Fox or even Sebs wife, Margot to play the part over her. Maybe they were right. Would Margot be mad at her? Lily had got so close to both Seb and Margot but she would hate it if they thought she should be there instead. Lily was so proud of herself when she got the role, she knew it was different from what she usually did but that is what excited her. Lilts head snapped up when she heard Seb come through the door. "Yeah, it's fine." She said, going to put the cup in the sink. She pushed her lips together. "Am I- Is this-" Lily sighed, sitting back down and putting her hands over her face. She let out a breath and looked up at her friend. "People online have very strong opinions on me playing Pam." She said, biting her inside cheek. "And it's hard not to believe them." Lily admitted.25 March 2021
seb
As Lily began to speak, Sebastian felt his heart sink. He hated that this was happening right now. The male honestly had not  idea  about these strong opinions people were voicing because he took an active stance against using social media - only using his platform to speak out on topics he believed in instead of personal use. With his brows furrowed, Sebastian walked up and sat down next to Lily, turning his body so he could better look at his younger co-star. "Lils, I don't know what any of these people are saying, but you can't pay attention to it." He said with concern laced through his words as he gently reached over and took the phone out of her hand. He swiped out of the screen she was on before shutting off her phone. The last thing she needed was to have this talk and then reopen her phone to it and experience the feelings all over again. "I get it though, now that you've seen it it's kind of drowning out your thoughts. That's how I get sometimes, at least. You know you're a badass and can take on this role, right?" He questioned, needing to know where her beliefs on this were before he moved forward.
lily
Lily knew as soon as she put her name into the twitter search it was going to end like that. There had been a lot of things said about her in the past but she was someone with thick skin, she could normally let it bounce straight off her. She had been living in LA for about a month now and she loved it, it felt like this was where she was meant to be. But all of a sudden these doubts started creeping in. "I know, I know." She said, pushing her lips together and angling her face away from her co star, who had now become one of her good friends, and wiping a tear away. She was thankful he took the phone off her. A small smile appeared on her face at his words. "I mean, it's not exactly Cinderella." Lily laughed slightly. "It's just so different from what I've done in the past." She said, which is what most of the things online were saying. Lily could feel herself starting to panic and again and tried her best to control her breathing. She finally looked up at Sebastian, feeling a comfort in having him there. "You think I can?"14 April 2021

Sebastian could see how upset Lily was about this and it honestly broke his heart. He hated that these online trolls were getting the best of her because she didn't deserve that, no one did. "I know you can, Lily." He confirmed, his bright blue eyes locking with hers. "I know this is all different for you, but you got this. It's a new challenge for you and I think you're about to show everyone that you're meant to be playing Pam." He said with a smile as he placed her phone behind him, away from her view. "I know how rough self doubt can be. I also know how hard it is to play a darker role, and just know I'm going to be here for you every step of the way, okay? We're a team with this and whatever you feel like you need to practice, we can do that." He offered her a smile, hoping his words were coming across as reassuring. Lily had became one of his best buds and he didn't like seeing any of his friends so upset like this.19 April 2021

Lily didn't know if it was the pressure of the role or the fact she had been so far away from home for so long but it was like the pressure of everything got to her. She loved working on the project and everyone had been so lovely but she still felt so out of place sometimes. Lily looked at Seb and pushed her lips together, wiping her eyes with her sleeve. "Thank you." She smiled at him. "You've been so good to me over the past few months. I am so lucky that I got to go on this journey with you." Lily said. At every stage of the process from casting to pictures to trailers, there had been support there but she always saw the odd few people getting on at her. "I'm sorry." Lily said, shaking her head. "You did not sign up to be my therapist in all this." She said with a laugh.

Advice for getting started & making friends 💕
Tumblr media
Since Tumblr ruined the original answer post to the ask: Hi!!! Thank you. I’ll go a little more in-depth with the answer and I hope you don’t mind.
1. Always know that no matter how good or bad you think your writing is: There are Wattpad books that were made into movies, so there will always be someone that will like what you write.
2. Tagging. Is. Important. Even though Tumblr is incredibly bad with its tagging system it’s always good to use tags so people following them can see your work. Try not to tag stuff wrong though. Did that a few times without noticing it and people were not happy about it. Understandably so.
3. Also always have warnings on your works and if there is something trigger warning worthy put it in the tags of the post with “xyz tw” and/or “tw xyz”. Also put age warnings in case you write 18+ content.
4. Utilize the option to block tags in case you wanna follow someone but you don’t wanna see certain fandoms/celebs. That also works for trigger warning tags.
5. Don’t feel bad about low reblog numbers. I have this amount of followers now and most of my works get 3-8 reblogs.
6. Don’t be afraid to tag some friendly bigger blogs in your first works. They might love what you do a lot. I, personally, am always up to be tagged in stuff.
7. Join writing challenges. Usually 50% of the bigger blogs have some kind of writing challenge going on. Those are great to get exposure and find other works to interact with. My current one is HERE.
8. When it comes to making friends it really depends. I think interacting frequently is a good start, but I found actual Tumblr DM’s to be the most helpful. Write your favorite writers that you liked a particular piece of their work or if you know you both have another shared interest, you can send them a Tumblr post about that. Example: I send baking enthusiasts cool looking food posts. But sometimes even DM’s don’t lead anywhere. Some people on here just don’t really want to make friends.
9. Interact with people’s personal posts. You’ll learn a bit about them from those. For example: I know that @buckyland has a cute cat and prefers greenery in pots and not vases (lmao).
10. Self-promo: I made a Discord server for MCU writers and it’s still going steady. Link for that is in my bio. We’re always excited for new people on there.
11. Asks are a great way to support writers beyond reblogging. Ask games are a great way to interact. Sending Requests is also appreciated by most people having open requests.
12. Decide if you want your own asks to include anons or not. But be prepared that if you enable anon asks, that you might get some dumbass spewing bullshit in there every few weeks (at least if you interact a lot w others). Vividly remember my first hate for interacting with my favorite writer.
13. Depending on how much you write you can plan your fics ahead. I, for example, publish most of my chapter based works once a week and only start publishing once they are at least 75% written. Others have ongoing works but I feel like the consensus on it is mostly “wait until you have a good idea of the ending or a rough outline.” @captain-kelli for example, writes her 'Call Sign: Renaissance’ series as an ongoing work but knows where it’s going and plots it out accordingly.
14. Know where to get inspiration. I personally have just trained myself to create everyday. Fiction, non-fiction, art, graphics, etc. It’s a good habit to have, but if you don’t have it you might wanna start an inspiration list or a side blog where you spam all your inspirations. Pinterest also is a good place for that.
15. Research how to link something in the mobile bio to put your masterlist there. There is this wonderful error Tumblr has, where you can’t change your profile on mobile or those links will vanish, so be aware of that. Just save that HTML code in a document lol.
16. Speaking of documents. I suggest writing your works in Google Documents, since it has a document history to refer to in the awful case of someone stealing your work. Preventative measure.
17. If you want a specific theme for your blog on desktop, you can DM me, I have tons of resources saved on another blog of mine.
18. For a nice mobile theme, you can visit @whimsicalrogers, search for headers and icons on Tumblr or request them from talented people per ask or DM. *cough* I make some too. *cough*
19. Oh, I also almost forgot this, but ALWAYS put a “Read More” break after more than 500 words in your posts. On desktop it mostly works in the normal editor, but there are also HTML codes in case it doesn’t work or you are on mobile. Basically, learn a few HTML basics for Tumblr in general, they always come in handy when this hellsite decides not to work.
Bottomline: Don’t be afraid to interact with your nickname being there front and center. Let yourself get seen. If your fandom blog is a side blog you can link them to each other in the bio like I did.
PS: The main reason why I got so many followers very quickly was for writing 31 smut pieces early on and tagging them well. Please know that follower count doesn’t mean much on here as long as the algorithm is trashy. Stick with interacting with people you wanna befriend and don’t let yourself get down too much over little reblogging.
But, of course, always try to find and reblog new people. That keeps the community alive and also spreads your name a bit, as well as the names of others.
If you need more advice or have any questions feel free to DM me or another blogger you trust.
To all my fellow bloggers: Feel free to leave more tips under this post. I’m sure I forgot at least one thing lol-

12 & 13 for nurlan, 15 & 26 for sybilla and 19 & 20 for haider? ✨
I’d love to!!
From the Favourite Things Ask
Nurlan
12) Favorite restaurant (small sushi bistro, upscale steakhouse, crowded sports bar with 59 flavors of wings, etc.) 🍕
Anywhere she gets recognized and fawned over. Nur goes one of two ways- noisy taverns/dive bars with a close-knit group of regulars where she’s often the toast of the night, or an upscale Asian/ Mediterranean restaurant with nicely-dressed valets, private dining rooms, and hyper-deferential service. She’ll inevitably put in some free promo if any of the waiters or the patrons compliment her work, or ask for her autograph.
13) An object or memory from their childhood (baby blanket, stuffed animal, a special trip, etc.) 🧸
A small tiara, painted gold with tiny stones shaped into “rubies,” given to her by one of the early patrons of her family’s inn. She grew up with not a lot of money to spare for “Things,” so the few toys she had were dear to her, and this, especially so. She loved to wear it and parade around in front of the mirror, blowing kisses to “subjects” and pronouncing “decrees”, and her younger brother was allowed nowhere near it. There’s only one Queen in this kingdom, as far she’s concerned.
Sybilla
15)What’s their Starbucks/coffee order? ☕
Irish coffee. She knows that’s technically a cocktail, but as far as she’s concerned, coffee without whiskey in it is coffee fucking wasted.
26) Favorite way to celebrate their birthday 🎂
She’s as much of a party animal as Lucio is, only her tastes are a little different. Even though her endless gallivanting days are a little behind her, she loves a rowdy drinks-and-campfire.
So Lucio usually throws a bonfire-and-barbecue extravaganza on the day. Not too far from home, usually close to a vacation resort, usually preceded by a day of hunting, with music and dancing and those glamping tents that look like hotel rooms, with enough red-meat and salmon heavy food to feed like, a city, and enough chocolate to fill a fountain, and enough whiskey to swim in. Invites go to everyone they know, and they usually don’t make it back to the resort ‘til the next evening.
Lucio’s having so much fun, and he’s so happy that she’s so happy, that he doesn’t even complain when they pass out half-naked before they get to the tent and get his nice, brand-new shoes caked in dirt.
Haider
19) Favorite thing about themselves 🤗
That he makes people’s day better, homes brighter, and lives easier. Haider's sense of self (and all his associated messy hangups) is very much connected to Being A Good Person. He has a firm conviction that he always has the best intentions, that he does his best to help and do his job right, and that he’s got his heart very much in the right place.
20) Favorite thing about their partner/s 💕
Asra’s intelligence and curiosity-. Haider loves how inquisitive Asra is, even if it gets him in trouble sometimes. He knows that Asra’s world had once been overwhelmingly unfair and lonely, and he thinks it takes a special kind of resilience to be endlessly, happily curious even in a world like that, to say, to it’s callous face, “I want to know more.”
He loves Portia’s courage. He thinks it makes her extraordinary, makes her really step up against all odds and stand her ground. Be it searching for ghosts  in the abandoned wing, or handling the Palace duties like a boss, Portia’s strong and determined and not one to back down from a challenge or an adventure. He has so much admiration and respect for her, and her courage is one of the first things about her that caught his heart.
