(My) Langblr Word of the Day Challenge!
While I was browsing language challenges to motivate myself and keep learning this August, I found @nordic-language-love's lovely Word of the Day Challenge, and I thought I'd give it a shot!
I'm participating for Russian, Sardinian, and Danish. As I still have low proficiency (~A1/A2) in all of these languages, I chose to only try my hand at the following prompts:
Translate the word into your target language
Find a synonym and/or an antonym for the word
Write a paragraph (or more) based around the word / one sentence containing the word
Learn 5 words related to the word /create a vocab list based around the word
I'll start by making 3 posts a day – one for each language – and see if it's sustainable. If you feel like participating and are learning one of these languages (or Italian – I'm a native speaker so I could offer some help!) please feel free to tag me!!

This new episode of Speaking Tongue focuses on Sardinian, a minority language spoken in Sardinia (Italy). Sardinian is legally recognised by the Italian state as a separate language from Italian, but due to cultural and linguistic oppression it’s now considered endangered.
If you’re interested in Sardinian you can follow @/dalila_manca on ig. 🌼

Languages of the world
Sardinian (sardu)
Basic facts
Number of native speakers: 1,350,000
Official language: Sardinia (Italy)
Recognized minority language: Italy
Language of diaspora: Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Libya, Switzerland, Tunisia, Uruguay, Venezuela
Script: Latin, 25 letters
Grammatical cases: 0
Linguistic typology: fusional, SVO
Language family: Indo-European, Italic, Romance
Number of dialects: 4
History
1080 - oldest document in Sardinian
1714 - Sardinian becomes the official and literary language in Sardinia
1760 - imposition of Italian
1782 - first systematic study of the language
1811 - first grammar
1997 - recognition as the official language of Sardinia
Writing system and pronunciation
These are the letters that make up the alphabet: a b c d e f g i j k l m n o p r s t tz u v w x y z.
Stress normally falls either on the last or the penultimate syllable of the word.
Grammar
Nouns have two genders (masculine and feminine), two numbers (singular and plural), and no cases. Unlike in other Romance languages, the definite article derives from the Latin ipse, similarly to Balearic Catalan.
A common feature of the language is the left-dislocated construction, which means that “I’ve sung that song” is phrased as “That song I have sung”.
It is interesting to note that Sardinian is the closest language to Latin in terms of phonology and vocabulary (the latter depending on the dialect).
Verbs are conjugated for tense, mood (indicative, conditional, imperative, and subjunctive), person, and number.
Dialects
There are four dialects: Logudorese, Campidanese, Gallurese, and Sassarese. They differ in phonology and vocabulary, but are mutually intelligible.
Sardinian is a pluricentric language, with Logudorese and Campidanese being the two standard ways of writing it.

An overview of the Romance languages, with some fascinating comments underneath. So few people understand Romanian, despite its being a Romance language. I certainly cannot understand a word. Yet Romanians, both in the comments’ section and those I have met personally, find many other Romance languages, such as Italian, easy to learn!
Many Portuguese say that they find Spanish easy to understand, but many Romance language speakers find French difficult to understand. This surprised me greatly, but when we consider the fact that French is furthest removed from the Latin root compared to Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese, one can see why. I think the pronunciation is the main obstacle, as well as spelling issues.
Even despite this, the popularity of Romance languages worldwide surely should give credit to the root tongue: Latin. A language that ought to be taught here in Britain, but sadly is the preserve of a few, under the foolish belief that it has no use. Yet the influence of Latin continues to this very day, present in so many words used without a second thought.
Great video!

October 24, 2022 — Langblr Reactivation Challenge Week 1
First day of online lessons again after part of my faculty building collapsed. Yeah. Anyway, it was a warm day, that started with a cup of tea and a pastry brought by my dad, and continued with a Russian Language lesson and some writing pratice. And, of course, with a lot of translating efforts, since I decided to join the Langblr Reactivation Challenge – let's see how far I get. Corrections are welcome!

🍵 tea otd: Blomsterfryd apple & eldeberry green tea by Søstrene Grene

EN || I'm Sara, and I'm Italian. I decided to jump in on this challenge to motivate myself during this semester. I've been studying English and Russian at uni for three years now. I also know a little French, which I studied at school, though I don't intend to take it up again sistematically. I hope to able to dedicate more time to Danish and Sard soon, as I have strong personal motivations to learn these languages! You can find my fluency levels in my intro post ☀️
IT || L'italiano è la mia prima lingua, ma magari qualcuno che la sta imparando vedrà questo post e potrebbe fargli piacere provare a leggere. Sono Sara e sono italiana. Ho deciso di provare a completare questa challenge soprattutto per motivarmi durante questo semestre: studio inglese e russo all'università da tre anni. Capisco un po' il francese perché l'ho studiato a scuola per quattro anni. Mi piacerebbe studiare il danese e il sardo in maniera più sistematica presto.

October 25, 2022 – Langblr Reactivation Challenge, Week 1
Busy day. From 8:30 to 13:10 I attended Russian Literature, Russian Language 2 and 3. I'm really happy with my notes on Lermontov. Started a crocheting project, while listening to the Islands of Mercy audiobook. It's a rather verbose novel, but I'm enjoying the plot!
🍵 tea otd: sencha with lemon
💿 sotd: Bejeweled - Taylor Swift

Day 2: Write a list of goals you have for your target languages. Make both long term and short term goals. An overall goal could be to have the ability to talk with native speakers with ease and a smaller goal would be to finally learn that difficult grammar point that's been plaguing you for ages. How will you achieve them?
EN || long term: speak and write as fast as a native speaker; -> short term: acquire the necessary vocabulary to understand academic articles in my area of study (and pass English Pragmatics)
RU || long term: be able to understand native speakers and short books; -> short term: get hold of the motion verbs and expand my vocabulary
DA || long term: converse with my Danish "family" with ease; -> short term: learn basic vocabulary for daily activities
SRD || long term: being able to speak with and understand native speakers enough to make small talk or short conversations easy; -> short term: learn some some basic grammar, mainly regular verbs' conjugation
