I believe that the vitality of Ohara Koson's paintings-- the way his animals and fish seem to leap off the page-- is achieved by the extremely economical way he used space. He left large segments of his canvas or blocks blank, thereby drawing the eye towards the animal or fish. He also juxtaposed angles and perspective for a more striking image. The effect is extraordinary.

@justiceamberheard I've just read The Independent's piece, and while I don't always agree with this paper on other issues, Charlotte O'Sullivan asked challenging questions and did not, as Maïwenn is now claiming, misrepresent anything.

This interview has proved what others have said beforehand: 1)- that Johnny Depp lacks professionalism on set, especially by failing to turn up on time; 2)- that Johnny Depp cannot be relied upon day to day to accurately repeat his lines; 3)- that Johnny Depp does not put in the effort to rehearse prior to shooting; 4)- that Johnny Depp is unable to obey instructions, even going so far as to undermine the director's authority by producing an altered script; 5)- that Johnny Depp is extremely arrogant, demanding star treatment the entire time and becoming insulted when he doesn't get his way; 6)- that others are intimidated by or even scared of Johnny Depp, not necessarily because of violence, but because of his unpredictable behaviour.

In addition to this, Maïwenn confirmed what I already knew: that Johnny Depp's French simply isn't fluent enough to carry the lead role in a French-language movie. She admitted that his accent wasn't good enough, but that Depp hadn't taken the time to work with the dialect coach he was assigned.

In other words, Depp could have done a far better job in French, but chose not to. Consequently, Maïwenn cut his lines, though she was quick to emphasise that it happened with the French actors as well. I am personally not convinced. I had no trouble with the French of anyone else in the trailer, only that of Depp.

This explains Johnny Depp's wooden acting and lack of chemistry with Maïwenn in the trailer (I have not seen the film).

It's telling that even in Maïwenn's statement of clarification, she still admits that she argued repeatedly with Johnny Depp during filming. That's not a crime in and of itself; this has happened with many other actors and directors. But when we add to these arguments all the evidence of Johnny Depp's unprofessional and disrespectful conduct, those arguments speak volumes.

None of this information is new. American actress Amber Heard made the same claims, especially about Johnny Depp repeatedly showing up late to set and failing to rehearse his lines. Before her, Hollywood studios and directors made the same claims, again regarding how fed up they were that Depp couldn't show up on time. This cost studios dearly during the filming of later Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Sure, there are other actors who behave like primadonnas, and even those who don't probably have moments they're not proud of. We certainly expect celebrities to live in a different world.

The problem with Johnny Depp is that the 2022 Virginia defamation trial sold him as a martyred soul who fell victim to career-destroying allegations of domestic abuse.

Now we see (yet again) that the only person who wrecked his career was Johnny Depp, and it wasn't because of domestic abuse allegations: it was because since at least 2014, he failed to show basic respect to his colleagues, failed to work hard, and failed to exercise self-discipline.

Maïwenn looks at me. “I have to be honest. It’s difficult to shoot with him... all the crew were scared because he has a different kind of humour and we didn’t know if he was going to be on time, or if he was going to be OK to say his lines... I mean, even if he was there on set, on time, the crew were afraid of him.” Nor has the situation improved. “There’s been no normal relationship since the shoot,” says Maïwenn. She shrugs. “Johnny for me is a huge genius but he’s in another world. I cannot communicate with him.”

@curlyhaircrowley You're right that Gaza is not starving. Over 300 trucks enter the Gaza Strip every day with food. Gazan markets have massively slashed food prices. Did nobody tell you this? Even so Hamas continues to ruthlessly steal food from humanitarian trucks and resell them to Gazans at extortionate prices.

Meanwhile, Hamas' leaders, who embezzled a fortune in excess of $10 billion have not shared any of this wealth with people in Gaza. They're enjoying a luxury life in Qatar and Turkey.

If you and others carelessly repeating the word "genocide" were capable of anything more than just "talking about Gaza" based on talking points provided to you by terrorists, you would address your condemnation to Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the PLO, the PFLP, and the other brazen embezzling, money laundering, and terrorist financing outfits who wrecked the Palestinian economy by stealing humanitarian aid in order to fund war.

Palestinian leaders prostituted their own people on the altar of Islamic jihad, then turned around and cried foul when they lost the wars they started and their own people suffered.

You wrote a whole post bemoaning the fate of people in Gaza, yet not a word about the Israeli hostages, who are being starved by Palestinian terrorists and Palestinian civilian collaborators. Not a word about whether the hostages are receiving any humanitarian aid. Not a single demand that the terrorists release the hostages now and stop aggression against Israel-- two steps that would have avoided war altogether.

These omissions tell me that your talk is just that: talk. You're not after a way to stop the war. Gazan suffering is your fetish, as it provides you with material for social media posts that denigrate Israel, inflating yourself with a fictitious sense of moral superiority.

You have no choice but to ignore the fact that so much of that suffering was brought on the Palestinians by their own deranged and genocidal leaders. You have no choice but to ignore the unprecedented criminality demonstrated by Palestinian society which caused this war in the first place. Neither of these two facts fit the narrative.

Gaza is not starving. Gaza is being starved by Israel. their condition is so bad that they are forced to consume animal feed just to keep their stomach full. but it isn't providing them any nutrition which is causing malnutrition. this is one of the most well documented genocide of all time and yet there are people who deny it or worse, they don't care. please don't turn away from their suffering and keep talking about Gaza.
