Good Omens NYCC panel recap
   - Guests: Neil Gaiman, Douglas Mackinnon, Rob Wilkins, Maggie Service, Nina Sosanya and Guelin Sepulveda, it is said that Michael Sheen will join at the end over Zoom.
About Season 1
- What do they miss most when S1 wrapped and before S2:
Douglas: All the cast and all the crew. We were very big and cuddly family.
Neil: Yeah.
Rob: David Tennant and Michael Sheen.
Nina: Missing the mentioned family and being part of the nuns sisterhood.
- At the beginning they shared several bts stories from season 1 and the book:
First day of shooting in the bookshop was cancelled because of the blizzard and the second day they were foreced to shoot interiors because outside there were people with flamethrowers trying to melt what was there. So they build the set of Soho 2 inside.
Rob kept a lot of the vehicles from S1 and S2, all the motorbikes, the cars, and now I have topped it with Crowley’s Bentley.
A lot of nuns including Maggie had warts, but Nina didn’t want one.
Neil about Nina’s audition (read more here).
That both Michael and David both independently suggested that he might like to write a Good Omens stage play so they may swap roles each night.
About Michael originally being Crowley (more here and here).
About Terry and Neil being Aziraphale and Crowley - Neil: In the creation of Crowley Terry took the things that I did that he thought were hilarious, like wearing sunglasses indoors when I didn’t need to. He put a lot of me into Crowley but then we both put a lot of ourselves into both of them. (here, also this).
Michael Sheen is amazing mimic, Neil recalls that during one of the final scenes he had producer headphones on, the guys were acting and sitting on the bench and all of the sudden David Tennant started saying awful things about Michael Sheen, just, you know, there’s Crowley and Aziraphale talking and Crowley is saying all this stuff about how Aziraphale is fat Michael can’t act and all the stuff and I’m like ‘Whaat?! David is the nicest man in the world...’ and then the penny drops and it’s Michael sitting there doing pitch perfect as Crowley.
About Season 2
Tumblr media
- What was like for Quelin to join the show:
She was a fan. The very first day was a bit like out of body experience, there was a scene where she interacted with David and Michael. So it was like, ‘Concentrate, Quelin, concentrate! It’s okay, it’s okay!’ And it was just overwhelming in the best of ways, honestly.
She plays angel Muriel. When Neil and John Finnemore talked about season 2, they realized that they didn't have another nice, well-meaning angels except for Aziraphale in Heaven, all they had were bastards, all awfull, so they thought ‘Let’s have a nice one’ and so they created angel Muriel, curious, gullible, well-meaning and chatty angel that spent 6000 filing in the same office in Heaven hoping that somebody would come in and the day would get more interesting and it doesn’t.
She’s a 37th order scrivener, bottom of the pily, it’s her first time to Earth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- They felt Terry’s presence also during filming S2.
- Douglas said that they started doing the ADR post production and that the difference between David and Michael is that David looks at the monitor and whatches what he’s done and Michael never watch, so now Michael saw himself for the first time and he was like a fan doing, ‘Oh look we’re back! And there’s Aziraphale!’.
- Neil about Maggie and Nina returning:
It was a thing where one of the things I was very very certain before I started writing season 2 that there were two characters in it and I wanted them to be played by Maggie and Nina, so in order to make it clear to everybody reading the script, that they were going to be played by Maggie and Nina, I called the characters Maggie and Nina. Maggie and Nina liked being Maggie and Nina so the names stayed.
Douglas joked that he thought that a bit lazy not to think up new names and it was hell on set. Later he jokes that since Muriel is an actual angel name, that Neil didn’t make that one either.
Maggie runs a record shop which is beside Aziraphale’s bookshop in Soho, Mr. Fell is her landlord, shop passed through the generations. Her shop looks across shop where Nina works.
Tumblr media
Nina works in the independent coffeeshop Give Me Coffe or Give Me Death, she is good with dealing with people in Soho who come in, not afraid of dealing with them. Wears great cardigans. Her character is quite grumpy. There is a scene where at the start her love life is doomed and she is getting passive-agressive texts for Lindsay - Neil says writing the texts was some of the most fun they had  - maybe there will be a hope for her love life.
Tumblr media
- About more characters:
Neil didn’t want to lose people because they are such a family and wanted Miranda Richardson back but Madame Tracy’s story had really finished and couldn’t think of more for here and her story had ended so beautifully so he wrote a new part for Miranda - she plays Shax, demon that was sent on Earth as the replacement of sacked Crowley.
Tumblr media
Anna Maxwell Martin couldn’t make the filming (was in two shows and a stage play when they needed her), so Beelzebub is played by Shelley Conn. She demanded a lot more flies.
Tumblr media
Donna Preston plays Mrs. Sandwich, and We’we never quite sure about Mrs. Sandwich’s profession but she’s definitely in Soho.
-When Neil started writing S2:
In August 2019 he told Amazon and BBC at fancy breakfast, ‘This is the plot.’, and they said, ‘Oh, we like that plot.’
In December he and John Finnemore got together and Neil told him the plot and he said, ‘That is a good plot, but how does it end’ Neil said that he doesn’t have ends until he gets there but John needed one so Neil said, ‘How about this?’ and told him the end and John said, ‘That’s a good end.’ And that is the end we’ve got.
He started writing it in the middle of the pandemic Summer 2020, writing with pencil to his notebook the first scene which is the first scene.
- Neil what will S2 be about:
Six episodes, each about 45 minutes.
There are some love stories in it.
We will learn a lot about Jane Austen we didn’t know before.
There is a lot more Heaven, a lot more Hell.
- What could be more eras for Aziraphale and Crowley
Douglas: 19th century Scotland, Neil: Edinburgh perhaps around 1827?, Douglas: That would be good, can you write that?, Neil: Oddly enough, episode 3 will take us to a little stint of body snatching in the era. For me it would be like 1941 and we’d go back to those Nazis. Douglas: That would be good and what about something biblical as well, could we do something? Neil: Bible’s good. Yeah back to biblical times, that would be really fun, we could do one of those in episode 2. (they are obviously talking about minisodes :))
- There was a clip from the show but only sound for those watching the stream.
Listen here.
Description from twitter ‘Crowley rushes into the bookshop holding plants and it’s so cute’.
This pic should be from it :)
Tumblr media
- Season 2 Release Date: Summer 2023
- At the end on the zoom dropped not on Michael but also David and Jon Hamm! :)
Watch here :), their banter was written by Neil, Staged-style.
Michael and David found out that there’s going to be S2 probably at the same time from Neil. There was always sort of hope after the end of S1 that there might be more story to tell. Jon found out about it from Neil during press for S1 as potentiality and then during covid Neil said an idea to Jon that we would start by walking down the street in Soho completely nude and he send me the beggining of the scene where Gabriel does not recogni- and the rest is deliberately cut with ‘Lost connection’, to the nude part Neil said, I knew that if he said yes to that he’d say yes to anything and then he says it is not actually there.

A recap of the panel with Rob Wilkins at The Ineffable Con 4
- About the ending of S2/the kiss: he says that the scene blew his mind. It was not David & Michael but Crowley & Aziraphale. Everyone knew it was one of the most important scenes. There were 3-4 takes but the one we see is the only one that exists. He found the haunting look on Aziraphale’s face really emotional. He also said that he wasn’t prepared for the fandom’s reaction but finds it brilliant. He also said that Aziraphale’s expression meant “do it again”.
- His favourite side characters are Bildad, Mrs. Sandwich, Eric and the Dowlings.
- He was really excited to have David, Peter Davison and Ty on set. He wished he could have had a selfie with all of them.
- He says that Good Omens really is like a family.
- He loves the love and dedication fans show to Good Omens. He’s amazed by people who get tattoos.
- His favourite easter egg is the presence of Terry’s hat and scarf. Also, the copy of Good Omens that Jim is reading from is Rob’s copy.
- About red herrings: there are things in S2 that might become more or not if S3 happens. Rob also said that there are things in S2 we haven’t noticed yet.
- His favourite thing about Crowley and Aziraphale is the fact that they’re a unit.
- He genuinely doesn’t know anything about S3 happening or not but he’s hopeful because the sets are still there in Bathgate.
- He has a record of “Everyday” signed by David Tennant and Michael Sheen.
- He loves Jim and how Jon Hamm just went with it when playing him.
- He bought the S2 Bentley because if they were going to get new a Bentley, it was going to be him buying it
- He showed the license plate which he had right there

okay. so.
apparently some people are losing their minds over what Rob Wilkins, one of the executive producers on Good Omens, said during a panel at a convention recently regarding the infamous kiss scene at the end of 2x06 and i’m just
Tumblr media
y’all are being so fucking weird. of all the things to get upset and antagonistic about, this is what you choose???? lemme break it down for you real quick:
The kiss between Crowley and Aziraphale (who are fictional characters in a TV show) is important and worth exploring further. The number of takes needed to film said kiss (which was PERFORMED by ACTORS who are actually TOTALLY SEPARATE INDIVIDUALS FROM THE CHARACTERS THEY PERFORM AS) and the exec. producer’s interpretation and description of the scene is not. you’re applying the same amount of relevance to the process of filming a scene as you are the fictional contents of the scene itself, which makes no sense!!! like WHO FUCKING CARES BRO
not only that, you’re going after neil gaiman himself over what, fucking semantics???? none of this is relevant to the Good Omens story!! once again y’all blur the line between fiction and reality in the dumbest way possible!! like, how does any of this actually relate back to Aziraphale and Crowley’s (fictional) story? i’ve never seen so many people act so fucking self-righteous and entitled over something that shouldn’t realistically matter at all. genuinely absurd. actually chronically online behavior. shut up, get a fucking grip, go outside, and actually talk to someone face-to-face. This isn’t another ✨meta analysis✨. You just don’t know to fucking behave like normal human beings. Holy shit.

thinking about the parallels between The Kiss and crowley offering aziraphale food for the first time on this fine morning, after the rob wilkins panel. aziraphale thinking: "how can something as delicious as this possibly be unholy? how can something that feels this good and feels this right, be wrong?"
the desire to experience this feeling again, over and over. to indulge and let himself go.

Terry was once asked why he worked across six monitors; ‘Because I don’t have room for eight’ was his cheeky response, although I suspect that if he had really wanted more screens he would have insisted that I found the space.  These days, a multi-screen setup isn’t unusual for the professional author, but when I first joined him, Terry, like most people back then, was still using clunky CRT monitors, which couldn’t possibly have been stacked up in multiples.  The lure of being able to spread Windows across two screens prompted him to invest in flat LCD panels--cutting edge at the time.  Soon though, two screens just weren’t enough, so we looked for ways to expand further.
...
You might wonder what an author--who was surely only ever working on one thing at a time--could possibly need with six screens.  It’s true that the text of Terry’s latest novel was always front and center, but it was never the only document open.  There was fan mail--lots and lots of fan mail--and letters to The Times, written under the guise of ‘Sir Terence,’ should the need for a social conscience arise.  There were letters to the bank, letters to the lawyers, letters to his publisher and agents--and there was Doom.  Most gamers had long-since moved on from this 1993 classic as computer capabilities increased, but Terry remained faithful to what is now considered to be one of the most significant and influential titles in gaming history.  It had its own screen and he loved it, calling it ‘bubblegum for the brain.’

Highlights from the Ineffable Con 2 panel with Neil Gaiman, Douglas Mackinnon and Rob Wilkins!
On the props they took with them: Rob has the iconic Devon watch??? He also has the statue at St. Beryl’s. Neil has a chair from the bookshop set (which he had to purchase from the BBC). Douglas has the playing cards that were featured in the baby swap scenes.
Neil's and Rob’s favorite bit that was added to the TV show from the book was the entire cold open. "Watching their relationship grow, everything felt rooted in the book, but it also felt like it was its own thing." For Douglas, it was David Arnold’s music!
Rob apparently had a cameo somewhere in the cold open??
Neil on the Bastille scene: "Did [Aziraphale] have any conception of the mess he was in? Probably not." Neil doesn't think Aziraphale did it on purpose so that Crowley would rescue him. He really just wanted crepes. "But the moment of joy when Aziraphale realizes he's been rescued is one of my favorite things."
Neil called the fans a “yoghurt starter.” "You put it into your warm milk and the whole thing starts to go off then it all turns into yoghurt."
Douglas read the script before he read the book (same as David Tennant). Michael Sheen was already a book fan long before!
Neil makes up weird little stories about the characters for himself. He puts in little details and Easter eggs that he thinks only he will notice (but people on Tumblr and Twitter notice and ask him about it lmao)
Neil wrote the script thinking Michael Sheen would be Crowley. Then when he was writing the Blitz scene he realized he wanted it to be David Tennant dancing down the aisle of the church, and that he wanted Michael to be Aziraphale instead. "I know Michael, and I know how much of him is Aziraphale... I wanted him to play someone that was Michael's inner goodness coming straight out."
According to Douglas, normally, for the screening that’s held for the cast and crew, only about 30 people show up, and they only stay to watch the episodes they worked on. But 300 people showed up to the GO screening for the cast and crew and they stayed for all 6 episodes.
Neil's favorite part of making the show: "The thing I loved most was the love."
Neil simply texted Nick Offerman and asked him if he wanted to play the role of the American ambassador. Jon Hamm's favorite book when he was a kid was Good Omens! Then Neil had dinner with Frances McDormand, and "by the end of the conversation, Frances was going to be God."
Neil on the budget constraints: "I was not put on this earth to fight budget battles. I was put here to create things...  All the cold open would have gone. The death of Agnes Nutter would have gone." (And it was Sir Terry who wrote that bit in the book!) The fandom lost the other four horsemen to budget constraints, too.
Neil, on Aziraphale and Crowley’s relationship: "There are definitely people out there that seem to think I accidentally wrote a love story. With all the beats of a love story and a breakup halfway through... There are just some things you do when you're writing a script that you do intentionally. When people accuse [Aziraphale and Crowley] of being a couple, they don't deny it. They don't argue. There's no flustering on their part. Other people in the story perceive them as a couple too."
Douglas, on the same topic: "I've been directing for quite a while. I tend to notice when the characters are falling in love... Everything is meant."
POSSIBILITY OF A SEASON TWO? "Season two? Of what?” NEIL, WHY ARE YOU TEASING US LIKE THIS. “All we have to do is hint that we're ready to do season two, and the old gang is just sitting around the kitchen table going, 'When do we start?'"

An Idea: The Rest Of Riverdale High
It would be a Riverdale High series that didn't star any of the main cast (Archie, Betty, Veronica, Reggie, Jughead, Moose, Midge, Cheryl, Dilton, Chuck, Nancy, etc.). I mean they could show up in a panel or a background, but the focus would be on the other students of Riverdale.
People like Cricket O'dell,  Frankie Valdez, Maria Rodriguez, Brigette Reilly, Alison Adams, Akira Yoshida, Tomoko Yoshida, Randolph (maybe starting to hang out/date Tomoko based around their shared love of manga), Kim Wong, Toño Díaz, Googie Gilmore, Pencil Neck G, Sassy Thrasher, Jeffrey & his dog Spike, Anita Chavita, Kumi Tanura, Angel Angelino, Jinx Malloy, Lucky Penny, Debbie Dalton, Dilly Dalton, Charley Hawse (teenage version), Lil' Jinx Holliday (teenage version), Marcy McDermott,  Danni Malloy (she needs to come back bad), Bingo Wilkins, Samantha Smythe, Eugene (maybe he went to Central High or Southside High and is now transfering back to Riverdale High or something, but he would be great to see come back), Amani (See Eugene), Fangs Fogerty (See Eugene), Ambrose Pipps (See Eugene), Sue Stringly (See Eugene), Wendy Weatherbee (have her move back to town), Joani Jumpp (moves back/visits Jughead, throws a wrench into JUST/UGAJ plans), Sayid Jamall Ali, Charlie ‘Chunk’ Charlston, Danny D’Angelo. Lawrence ‘Lonnie’ Renwood, Victor ‘Big Vic’ Johnson, Chloe Mancuso, Rob Mantaukett, Prankenstein, Avalon ‘Shrill’ Prisston, Simon Silverstein, Bobbi Suarez, Carla Teal, Sherry Thyme, Sheila Wu, The Twitters (Mina Martin, Nina Nelson, & Tina Thomas), etc
And faculty could be some of the focus too. Mr Weatherbee, Ms Grundy, Miss Haggly, Prof Flutesnoot, Coach Clayton, Coach Kleats, Coach Pacer, Coach Grappler, Ms Ganesh, Mr Fine, Ms Ashton, & maybe add Sara Bellum (as the shool's new councilor).
Sheesh, I just realized Riverdale is big enough for 4 (formerly 5 until Pine Point High closed) high schools (Riverdale High, Central High, & Southside High, & Pembrooke Academy).

About Neil and Terry vs. Crowley and Aziraphale :)
Q: People often wonder if Aziraphale and Crowley are based on you, Neil, and Terry. Neil, is there any truth to that? And, Rob, if so, who's Aziraphale and who's Crowley?
Rob: There is no doubt in my mind: Neil Gaiman is Crowley, look at the glint in his eye.
Neil: I think it's perfectly fair to say that in the creation of Crowley, Terry took the things that I did, that he thought were hilarious, like wearing sunglasses indoors when I didn't need to - I was younger then, and he thought they were just hilarious, so he put a lot of me into Crowley, but then we both put a lot of ourselves into both of them. You know, there's... really what was most important for Terry was just that people would think he was the good one. So if any bricks came through any windows, they were gonna to come through mine. Which is why in all photos, I am the one in black. Terry, who never wore white, would always go and borrow white clothes from people to be [in white] in all the photos.
Rob [wearing a white jacket]: This wasn't worn... there's no accident that I'm wearing this today, Neil.
