ALSO: a note to op. this blog is such a great idea, but have you considered setting up a google form for submissions instead? they work for people who don’t have Google accounts, and you can export the entries to a spreadsheet automatically instead of manually that way too. if you let submitters view previous responses you can prevent repeats too?

I've queued most of these! Exceptions below:

-Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back 40th Anniversary short story compilation: since only one of the stories is queer, I'm not going to include it. This is absolutely arbitrary, I realize, but for short story collections, I'm looking for them to be mostly queer.

-Two Tuns of Fun: I couldn't find any book by this name.

-Two Mummies / Two Daddies (kids picture books): are these individual books? I couldn't find anything with these exact titles.

-Beating Heart Baby and The Priory of the Orange Tree were already queued (they were both in my initial batch of queued books prior to going live with the blog).

The google form is a good idea and something I'll consider! At the moment, it doesn't save me any work, and actually creates more. I would need to check every submission anyway to make sure it's correct and in the format I want it in. Currently I've got a Google Sheets spreadsheet with all books (both queued and posted) for people to check if their suggestion has already been submitted. Thanks for the idea, though!

Last Book: The way I barely read books any more... the last book I tried to read before AW2 took over my life was The Dollmaker of Krakow by RM Romero. It was actually a solid thing from what I read so far! About a sentient, talking doll who came from the land of the Dolls and ended up at a toymaker's house. (It reminded me of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane so <33 )

Last Fic: Last fic I wrote was today's Ink (fuelling my CultCase agenda here)

and the last Fic i read was from Caregiving by AutisticWriter. A flashfic about Saga and Logan <3

Best Books of 2022 -- In Which I Fail Spectacularly to Compile a "Top Ten" List.

I read 166 books in 2022. Yes, some of them were shorter books: several middle-grade books and a few advance review copies of picture books. Most were novels, though few were truly giant tomes. I really enjoyed most of them. Which is to say, trying to pick the "top ten" was excruciating and an exercise doomed to failure. So... I cheated. Or rather, I modified the goal. Thus I present to you... my top 10 42 books read in 2022 (and even that is fudging things a bit as there are a few instances here of me using a single book to stand in for the entire series if I read the entire series in 2022 and didn't want my list to balloon uncontrollably) organized like so:

top five books!

this is a cruel thing to ask!

This Appearing House by Ally Malinenko had me and my disabled author friends crying! It’s a deeply cathartic middle-grade story about a girl confronting her fears in a haunted house as she waits to (hopefully) be declared NED – No Evidence of Disease

The Ghosts of Rose Hill by RM Romero, a YA novel told in verse about a girl cleaning a Jewish cemetery in Prague. While there, she’s drawn into the hidden world of ghosts and river demons.

The Conductors by Nicole Glover, a magical murder mystery that takes place post-Civil War. Hetty is haunted but those she couldn’t save as a conductor of the Underground Railroad, but a new purpose in Philadelphia leads to a long-buried secret.

Amongst Our Weapons by Ben Aaronovitch is a deeply satisfying installment in the Rivers of London series. Peter is a great protagonist who knows the only way to move forward is to not become the powerful person in the room, but the most empathetic with a group of friends.

Happy Place by Emily Henry, which is why I am an absolute sucker for exes-to-lovers.

Y tuvieron que aguantar el temporal hasta que todo se calmó dejando parte de la ciudad en ruinas

Y tuvieron que rodar con cuidado porque otra vez los escombros los estorbaban bastante…

ESTV.- con cuidado ¿???

Y por fin salieron de la ciudad para seguir adelante y tomar sus posiciones originales…

ESTV.- como andamos elphe ¿???

EDM.- con muchos malos presentimientos y como vamos lentos dejare a la vieja manejando para ir investigando más adelante y abrir la carretera ¡!!!

Y enseguida el patrón se comunicó con el jefe de jeeps coreanos…

ESTV.- Comandante, nos puede facilitar un jeep ¿???

CCL.- olita mandal patas diule alelante ¡!!!  

Y cuando llego el jeep a la vanguardia el pheri detuvo su maserati para bajarse y dejárselo a la sakka ( 119 ) para que se sentara en el asiento del piloto mientras el romeo se subía al jeep con una parsimonia asombrosa y se lanzaba al ataque mientras el soldado coreano esperaba un lugar con sus compañeros de atrás.

EDM.- al ataque mis toltecas ¡!!!

Y entonces el jeep avanzo a gran velocidad dejando la caravana atrás…

EDM.- que tenemos adelante ¿???

Y cuando paso Lebanon México había partes del asfalto destruido…

EDM.- Steve al salir de Lebanon no tomes La Carretera 70n porque hay fisuras en el asfalto y será mejor que bajes por El Freeway 40 manque rodeemos ¿???

ESTV.- Entendido y Anotado ¡!!!

Y de repente llegaron los helicópteros de petrolodos para alimentarlos…

A LOS CARROS, NO ¿???

Y LA GENTE DE PASO ¡!!!

Y así fue avanzando El Sabueso Sánchez para ir facilitando la labor de la travesía…

EDM.- Y ahora que ¿???

En la entrada de Knoxville México había muchas anormalidades sobre El Freeway 40…

EDM.- peligro en Knoxville México porque se avecina un ataque peligroso de Los Resisto les ¿???

ESTV.- Correcto ¡!!!

Y entonces rápido se apresuró El Hijo de Hitler para que llegara por el lado sur a Knoxville con su gigante ejército de La Gestapo y busco a la famosa caravana un par de kilómetros antes de llegar a la dichosa ciudad.

EHH.- Heil Hitler ¡!!!

Y saludando con la mano en alto el estivi le contesto…

ESTV.- Heil Hitler ¡!!!

EHH.- como se mira la vista ¿???

ESTV.- parece que tenemos encajonados a Los Resisto les en su propia madriguera porque no les dejamos ninguna salida ¡!!!

EHH.- Y piensan atacar o solamente nos están jugando una guerra de nervios ¿???

ESTV.- así como se han desarrollados las cosas no creo que nos dejen pasar ¡!!!

EHH.- entonces hagamos un plan ¡!!!

ESTV.- por cielo, tierra y mar ¡!!!  

Y de esa manera la gestapó y los efectivos que llevaba el patrón lograron realizar un plan y una gran ( 120 ) estrategia para cruzar la ciudad esperando no ser raspados.

ESTV.- los carros avanzan de frente, nuestras tropas coreanas y japonesas irán por la izquierda de tal manera no mostrar la cara fácilmente y la gesta a la derecha lista para atacar ¡!!!

CCL.- así sela ¡!!!

I had a really good reading month, both in terms of quantity and quality. I actually ended up doing 30 in 30. Sometimes a switch just flips in my brain that lets me read faster than usual, but it also helps that about half of these were under 200 pages.
