A Very Belated Octopath Traveler II Ranking
I had an anon asking me about Octopath Traveler II story rankings a few weeks ago. I'd been wanting to do one of those for a long time now, but between all my other projects I haven't really had the time. I can however throw together a quick summation. If there's any interest in longer versions I might be persuaded to explore that...but when I say "long" I really do mean it. Most of my notes at the moment go on for paragraphs for almost every traveler.
#8 Ochette
Knockoff Pokémon. Kind of shapeless thanks to the nonlinearity. Brings up heavy themes but can't really explore them in part because the beastlings are just handled weirdly. The villain only existing offscreen sucks.
#7 Hikari
Literally the standard Fire Emblem plot, only it doesn't work in the Octopath format because of geographic isolation and the travelers being handled oddly as a group like always. Has some pacing issues especially in Chapter 4 with its massive cutscene dump. Was pretty much exactly what I expected from start to finish.
#6 Throné
Fantastic opening and even better midgame, then dives off a cliff at the end because it has to escalate to the Final Story. Overall story can't accommodate such a bittersweet ending so it just kind of...doesn't. Still earns points for how it handles familial abuse and the perpetuation of the cycle of violence.
#5 Partitio
Man's dads get divorced, so he starts an industrial revolution to get them back together. Is as awesomely ridiculous as that sounds, and is enhanced by various unique stylistic flourishes. Succeeds as long as you don't try to bring any serious economic or political themes into it. Also extremely gay homosocial all around, soured only by the token female character...and not remotely in the way you'd expect based on how I'm describing it.
#4 Agnea
A low-stakes, feel-good romp that's exactly what you think it's going to be, and is wonderful at it. Begins leaning on the fourth wall in amusing ways by the end, and although it's also weirdly leashed to the Final Story it goes over better than it does with Throné's or Partitio's stories. Primrose was my favorite from the first game, and while the tone of this one is completely different I'm surprisingly okay with that.
#3 Temenos
A bit lazy doing another story with a Sherlock Holmes-esque approach to mystery when the first game already did one, but the stakes are higher from the start and Temenos is also doing most of the heavy lifting building to the Final Story. Crick provides some much-needed emotional stakes, even including his ultimate fate. Gets a bit lost in its own plot twists at one point, but that's mostly a minor nitpick.
#2 Osvald
Opening is constraining and atmospheric in just the right way. Appropriately dramatic at all the right points with a delightfully hammy villain, and pivots from revenge to the Power of Love adequately enough so as not to feel too cheesy. Spaces out its multiple flashback sequences much better than Hikari's story. It and #1 are actually helped by being narrative cul-de-sacs relative to the Final Story.
#1 Castti
Does pretty much everything the other stories do right. Deftly handles an amnesia plot with clever presentation and a strong supporting cast. Healeaks is devastating, the villain is hammy but also sympathetic (his turn being offscreen is the weakest note of the whole thing), and Castti is a solid presence throughout even if she never really stands out much to me as a character. Ending is satisfying but still allowed to feel melancholy, and it doesn't lead to mood whiplash like Throné's does.

Disabled Characters in the Showdown Currently
Notes:
1.) This list is subject to change, so if you see it off a reblog, please check the link to this post here. At some point this will probably stop updating, as we tend to forget to. Before we kick off the showdown there will be another post. Characters are under the cut, the list is currently unorganized, but might get organized later.
2.) If you see a character on here and you want to submit propaganda for them please feel free to, there is no submission limit or character per fandom limit. Here is the link to the submission form. Characters from the prior round of this showdown are fair game except Toph, Toothless and Hiccup. Additionally, most characters from @gay-disabled-characters-showdown are also fair game.
3.) The amount of submissions will not affect how likely a character is to get into the showdown. If you submitted a character and they are not here, we probably just haven’t gotten to verifying your character yet. If it’s been more than 3-4 days since you submitted the character you can shoot us an ask as to why they are not on the list, it might be an error on our part.
4.) When will submissions close? We have no fucking clue. At the earliest sometime October, as we are still working on setting up over @gay-disabled-characters-showdown which is still accepting submissions here. Additionally, as we need to write image descriptions it takes us a ridiculous amount of time to get set up.
5.) If you think a character doesn’t qualify you can send us an ask or leave a comment, and we can show you the explanation we have for the character as to how they count.
7.) If there is a character or media on here you think is problematic you can send us an ask and we will evaluate. That being said it’s not about being the best most perfect representation.

Hello hellooooo I have thoughts about Tiger and Bunny :) below the cut because it's so long lmao. I tried to keep spoilers out of it, for the most part, but this is mainly me talking about things i liked
I really liked the character designs. It's what immediately drew my eye and hooked me when I was just channel surfing and came across it. I was like holy shit!!! Black people drawn super well in an anime!!!! It's something that I wasn't used to, Made my heart sing yk.
I adored the character designs for the most part!! Yeah some of them (barnaby) looked silly, but it really fit their character. It's a superhero anime- I was expecting it!
Oh man, speaking of, I'm such a goner for superhero/ mecha stuff. Some of my favorite franchises growing up were Transformers, Power Rangers, and Tenkai Knights. So when I flipped through channels, saw the heroes in action and the fighting/ animation, my brain went "!!!!!!! Yes!!!" I gushed over Tiger and Barnaby's hero suits, heck, everyone's hero suits. It just scratches an itch in my brain.
I watched the dub, and I thought it was great!! Lots of funny lines and great deliveries :) ("and what's that over there?" "Oh that's. A building." "And that?" "...also.. A building." And "I don't talk like that!" "I dOnt TaLk liKe ThAT!" And God any line where Bunny was crying was just so good. Really pulled on my heart strings even when I wasn't expecting it to) Sure, some of the scenes were corny, but I was expecting it!
The plot was solid, though I can see where some holes might be poked. But there was so much character in every episode, I love the teamwork and the way everyone interacted with each other. And the attention that was placed on their relationships with their families. Even if I wish for more, it's fun to play around with in my head. Like, I'm sure Fire Emblem was a big step forward, in universe, for gay rights and their flirty, flamboyant attitude is the biggest "fuck you" to homophobes. I'm sure Dragon Kid's debut, at 13, caused a commotion about children doing hero work, especially when she's getting hurt so much. I'm sure there's a lot of background politics at play regarding heroes and their sponsors that we don't see. I know a lot of this was left out, because they wanted a story with one plot, because they weren't sure how far this series would go, because it just wasn't as interesting. But oh man, these things have been in my head ever since I watched it. Tiger and Bunny is a fun playground.
(I'm going to be honest, I went in without high expectations for the plot. I was just here for cool fight scenes)
I appreciated the direction they took Karina's crush on Kotetsu. I was really wary at first. She's 15? 16? and he's like 36. If they were going to be pairing up the underage girl with the grown man she had a crush on, I was prepared to drop the whole show and hate it. But no!! The progression was sweet, the way Kotetsu obviously sees her as a daughter, and how Karina evolved into her feelings was just :')
Also. Holy fucking shit. Barnabys entire life just. Put out there, for the whole world to see. I can't imagine the sense of perversion that creates. The world knows his name, his backstory, everything. He no longer has his own life, his own choices. It's ridiculous, and I'm glad he had people there to support him.
UNLIKE KOTETSU JEEZ. Man was getting the short end of the stick at every turn ToT I felt so bad for him every time he tried to hard to be recognized, but also just embarrassed. Give him a break!!!
And. Even before going into this, I knew that people would ship Tiger and Bunny. I've been around the block, I know how this shit goes, especially in these types of shows. Two guys being super close, going on about their friendship and all that, is bound to attract shipping. I wasn't against it!- I was just ready for it, but was mostly planning on ignoring it.
But. Holy shit. It's really all there huh. They're like. in Love Love.
("you're only partners for each other." "You two fight like an old married couple." "we dont need to talk to know what the other is thinking." "you're always making me think about you."
Kotetsu "I wonder how Bunny's doing again" Kaburagi and Barnaby "Have I told you about Kotetsu today yet" Brooks Jr. Neither of you are subtle.)
I'll make another post with some more detailed criticisms and takes, but for now, this is all my brain wants to gush about

𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝑩𝒆𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝑬𝒗𝒊𝒍 (𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐚)
𝐄𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝟏: 나타나다 Pals, I wrote this post months ago (maybe at the end of last year??? I don't know). I wrote it with the intention of rewatching the whole show and doing episode reviews/documenting my musings. But.... life got in the way (as it always does).
But as today is the two year anniversary of the first episode airing, I thought I might as well share what I wrote. Even though it only covers the first like... 20 minutes of the episode lol
Having said that, I will note that there's definitely an abundance of rambling, as well as me taking the piss out of Joo Won, and of course, me thirsting HARD for Shin Ha Kyun 😌 So, are you wearing your glasses? Cause, I am. fyi, you're going to need a drink and maybe a snack because this is a very long post. I hope you enjoy what I share. Please note: Do not read this if you haven’t seen the whole show. It contains major spoilers.
Part 1/2 (??) Okay, out of all 16 episodes, the first is the one I have seen the most. I have previously done a ridiculous review of it, which you can read here. ⬅️ Now for my unorganised thoughts (which have been organised more as bullet points than anything else):
I like BE’s intro/title sequence. There are some very sexy scene selections and colour grading. I’m personally a little fatigued when it comes to glitch art, so the little 90s-inspired glitch effects don’t “wow” me. But I still appreciate that they included this in the overall design of the show’s aesthetic
here are some of my favourite shots
Tumblr media
⬆️ THAT'S GAY! Dong Sik looking down with his eyes open and Joo Won looking up with his eyes closed??? heaven vs hell, open mind vs closed mind. Bound together by cuffs (their version of the red thread of fate) on THEIR LEFT HANDS. resting their heads against each other????? Excuse me, but this has no right being so obvious
I didn’t like the soundtrack when I first watched the show… I know… I know. I did like a few songs but overall, I wasn’t too keen on the general sound. Now, however??
Tumblr media
i'm grooving Also, does anyone else get... you know... in the opening scene when Dong Sik demands Ji Hoon to put his flashlight into the air so he can find him?? 😳 sir, give me a chance! I like a logical man (who canonically was just flirting with his future boyfriend)
Also, I like that Ji Hoon is wearing a yellow and blue raincoat in this scene. I wonder if this is a slight nod to the yellow raincoat serial killer, Yoo Young Chul?? Also, visually, it is an early indicator of Ji Hoon’s age, as he (out of the three men in the scene) is the only one wearing bright primary colours, which is often associated with young children/younger people. It could also be a subtle indication of his profession, as the South Korean police use blue, yellow, and red as a part of their emblem's colour scheme. It is also an efficient way of adding contrast to an otherwise very dark and semi-monochromatic scene.
Tumblr media
"동식아"/ “Dong Sik-ah”- JUST YES. Through the power of honorifics alone, we are able to gauge the nature of Ji Hoon’s relationship with Dong Sik, before they've even shared the same space onscreen.
Including Dong Sik’s heartbeat during this part of this scene - told entirely from his perspective - is a very nice touch of immediately humanising him to the audience and indicating the gravity of this event.
Cut to the year 2000 and we're immediately shown the killer (1 of 2). Jin Mook’s van is shown passing through various locations throughout Manyang as a way to establish the location, the events of the era, and the personality of the town. But what the creators do so artfully here is they showcase to us how Jin Mook was able to go on for 20 years without being suspected by his fellow townsfolk. We, the audience, just like everyone else in the story, do not pay attention to him/his van. Instead, we focus on the people and locations he passes through. He is almost invisible, but he is like a poison or an air bubble passing through the bloodstream, you can’t always see him, but he kills the host either way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This sequence of events also mirrors how Joo Won is introduced
We are shown Jin Mook delivering a bouquet of flowers for a funeral (belonging to the Lee family. Which I'm guessing Jin Mook maaay have worked for or at the very least, helped out), and then immediately to Yu Yeon’s fingers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we are shown Yu Yeon in the glow of the hazy sunlight basking through the church window as if she is an angel or more of a memory than a living person.
“Even when injustice strikes our world. Even when mistrust spreads. We will only believe in our Lord.” “Our world is covered in darkness. Lord, please light our world.”
These are the lyrics to the song the choir is singing. How… yeeeeah… how appropriate for the rain scene in episode 16.
I love the tenderness we see in Kim Young Hee (Yu Yeon and Dong Sik's mum). Honestly, I adore her! What a wonderful mother that loved her children and tried to do right by them. I love that Dong Sik got his curly hair from his mother, and I love that he has her wide smile (it's a smile the twins share). I love that you can see how proud Young Hee is of Yu Yeon and that, even though Dong Sik is “bringing down the family name”, you can tell that she still loves him dearly.... even if he’s a little shit.
Also, we do not give enough credit to the makeup department for the way they transformed Park Myung Shin’s appearance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh god. Not Dong Sik not turning up to his grandmother’s funeral service…. In a scene where they just brought up the concept of karma, and how Dong Sik is bringing bad karma to the family… 🙃🙃
Here he is choosing not to say goodbye to a family member (in a church, no less), then later in the same day, he loses his twin sister, and then 3 years later, his father dies. He doesn’t go to the funeral of one family member and loses two family members by force…. Almost like he’s being punished for his “poor” choices. He was released from the army to attend his father’s funeral (where he was the “상주”/Sangju/Chief Mourner. He is shown all alone before Sang Bae came to support him), and then much later on, he is shown again choosing to go and to be the Chief Mourner of two more funerals (Kang Min Jeong and Nam Sang Bae). It is only when he completes this does he find out who Yu Yeon's killer is; almost as if he’s made up for his bad karma??? Am I pulling smoke out of my arse here? Probably
NOT DONG SIK BADLY SINGING ALONG TO A SONG WITHOUT A CARE! Nope. nope. STOP 😭😭😭
I find the way the three females in this scene interact with Dong Sik to be veeerrry interesting. There are no giggles, no exchanging of telling glances, no blushing, teasing, and definitely no flirting. None of them finds Dong Sik attractive (they have no taste) or believes that he finds them attractive. There is no indication of any romantic connection between him and them. They only view him as someone they can openly laugh at because he’s (in their eyes) an annoyance: someone worthy of their laughter. This scene could have been an easy way for the show to make Dong Sik het, but they didn’t do that, leaving his sexuality and relationship status during his younger years unknown to us. (Considering he didn’t go to church and that he has no romantic tension with any of the girls in his age group, it really says a lot👀)
I really like Bang Ju Seon… she’s so cool and a little mean but I respect her for it! Although....
Tumblr media
This is uncool. But I do like that they interrogated this into the story and that it was subtly explored through Dong Sik's actions throughout the show
Young Dong Sik is really given way too much shit. They’re acting like he’s the worst kid on the block (i’m exaggerating), when in reality, he’s a 20-year-old hanging out at a music cafe in his local town. Yeah, he “starts fights”* (as noted in the church scene) but his face isn’t bruised or bloody. He’s not shown smoking or doing drugs; he’s not getting anyone pregnant. He’s just a teenager in a small religious town, who’s clearly feeling the pressures and restrictions placed upon him. He’s just trying to have fun. He’s not sure where his life is going next and honestly, that’s super okay. Poor baby, he really didn’t deserve what that town did to him. *throughout his childhood, Dong Sik would beat up bullies. But I do love how these small details of his teenage self are used as fuel for the fire. Because of his “bad” behaviour, the people in the town were quick to believe that he committed sororicide. The detail that Dong Sik is "nothing" in comparison to Yu Yeon was probably seen as a motive (he was angry about being second best and was jealous of YY, etc)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yu Yeon has a picture of her and her mum together [top left-hand corner], just like Jae Yi.
Also, her room reminds me of Min Jeong’s
I like the detail of Yu Yeon sneaking out. It shows that she and Dong Sik aren’t as different as everyone makes them out to be. Also, I like that we’re led to believe that it was Dong Sik that “lured” her out of the house.
The Lee’s family home was so nice!! 😭😭😭😭
NO! NOt the camera lingering on where Yu Yeon’s fingers end up!
YU YEON AND DONG SIK BOTH WEAR PLAID SHIRTS. Do you think she’s wearing one of Dong Sik’s shirts??? Cause I do.
I also like that the camera focuses on Yu Yeon tucking her hair behind her ear. In visual media, this is often used to convey bashful/shyness/romantic feelings from young women. So, without words, we are being told that she’s thinking about/on her way to meet a romantic love interest.
ALSO!!! Due to the fact that the city council weren’t distributing funds equally throughout Manyang (it’s noted that they spend their budget on the densely populated areas), the lights are turned off on the road. This leads to Yu Yeon becoming scared and deciding to run to meet up with Jung Je. Perhaps, if the lights have been left on, she wouldn’t have felt scared, meaning she wouldn’t have run, and wouldn’t have ended up coming across Jin Mook murdering Ju Seon… meaning… maybe she wouldn’t have died that night.
I get shivers every time they pan down to Ju Seon's body
Tumblr media
The religious imagery!!! The angel statue is first shown with Yu Yeon, then Ju Seon, Young Hee, Dong Sik, and then finally, Joo Won.
Okay, so this heartbreaking scene of Young Hee finding her daughter's fingers. Other than the obvious (and the way she stretches her hand out towards Yu Yeon, foreshadowing how even though she can no longer hold her daughter, she'll never let go😭😭), please note that Dong Sik and his mother have the same singing voice 🫠
Then we cut back to 20 years later/present day. But the show makes sure to show us that Seoul expanded and grew, but Manyang stayed the same/got worse (a.k.a became purgatory)
Tumblr media
The female gaze is so sexy here. THIS IS ~THE~ INTRODUCTION SCENE OF ALL INTRODUCTION SCENES. Can you believe that Joo Won got to sleep with this man??? I honestly think about this scene every time I wash my face… that’s probably super sad but… here we are. Also, I know it doesn't need to be said but.... SHIN HA KYUN 😩😩😩😩
The shot of Dong Sik walking through his family home, with the camera following him to reveal the way the house hasn’t changed (has only been touched by time) is one of my favourite shots of the show. We are given so much information with a singular pan of the camera 😩
We are shown Dong Sik walking through his family home, stuck in time. Then the next introduction we are given is Joo Won, in his flashy sports car on his way to Manyang. It’s the equivalent of a slow-mo shot of a bullet leaving the barrel of a gun and the journey it takes before it reaches its destination. (Dong Sik is walking around in circles. Joo won is moving in a straight line, heading directly to Dong Sik. DS is shown wearing browns and reds. JW is first seen in a bright blue car. Dong Sik is shown as a person inside a family home, and Joo Won is shown inside a machine. What I’m trying to get at is that they’re shown as opposites)
NO. FUCK OFF! I JUST REALISED SOMETHING: jwds are both shown twice through glass/mirrors during their introduction sequence. (side note: I love that they're given equal attention during this sequence, it really establishes that this is their story)
Dong Sik is shown shaving- as in shedding a layer, preparing himself for the day, and getting ready for his next performance (which is something he has to overcome)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We first see Dong Sik through a fogged-up mirror, then through a completely distorted mirror. Further proving that the person we are being shown is viewed as a reflection of our perspective of him, and not the person he truly is
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joo Won is shown looking through the car window with the sun beaming on it- detailing to us that he is blinded (which is something he has to overcome)
His view is insular and dictated by the "bubble" he was brought up in/keeps himself in. He also looks out to the world through an unclear perspective.
Dong Sik is shown looking at his own distorted reflection, whereas Joo Won is looking out through the glass. Neither has a clear vision of what they're about to face. (And only when Dong Sik isn’t hiding behind his facade and Joo Won starts seeing with clear eyes are they able to unveil the truth.)
Am I making a mountain out of a molehill??? Or am I onto something here?
(Also, it should be illegal for a show to have two leads that are this attractive. That is genuinely one of the things I liked the most about BE, the first time around and even now😂 In my opinion, Shin Ha Kyun and Yeo Jin Goo are equally matched in their looks. Ngl, it’s a nice element to their partnership on screen haha)
When I saw Jin Goo’s face for the first time, I remember thinking, “gosh, he’s wearing a lot of makeup” 😂😂 But I will note that I like the way the makeup department decided to present Joo Won. He isn't too dulled up, he's not perfect (you can see Jin Goo's skin texture, his scars, and some spots/zits every now and then) and in comparison to other shows Jin Goo's been in, he looks way less airbrushed, and more like a person wearing makeup. It just looks like Joo Won is choosing to wear makeup, which I personally really like for his character. Basically, he's pretty but not perfect
[Cut to the salon scene] I like that it is noted that Lee Kang Ja’s husband is a cop, and how it’s understandable for the audience to believe that Dong Sik is her husband… but nah 👀😂 Also, I swear that Lee Kang Ja calls Dong Sik “Dong Sik-ah” (which… given her and Gil Goo’s involvement in his framing and the cover-up that ruined Dong Sik’s life, is suuuuper fucked up)
Also, I like that class and financial income is brought up in this scene. It adds substance to the kind of area Manyang is
I reaaaally like that we get to see Dong Sik doing his job without Joo Won making us believe that he’s guilty of something. We see that Dong Sik is observant, patient, kind, calm, and authoritative. He knows the law and understands when to apply it (👀😈)
Tumblr media
Park Ji A... oh what I would give to be in your shoes right now. Also, thank fuck for Dong Sik that Joo Won never saw this… he may have gotten ideas 👀😂 (also tag yourself. i'm ji hoon at the window)
Honestly, this scene is kind of hilarious because it's like the only time the show dedicates this much screen time to comedy, and the way they chose to do it is by showing people disregarding Dong Sik's person 🙃 [cut to the station scene]
Up until the scene inside the station, we have been told by multiple people that Dong Sik isn’t/was not as accomplished as Yu Yeon. Which kind of implies that he wasn’t as academically accomplished, and perhaps, not as smart. But then we are shown Dong Sik resighting individual articles from the criminal code from memory, proving that these claims against him were false (it really sets up a precedent, doesn't it???)
Side note: Gwang Young is such a brown-noser and I really like that about him. He’s a bitch- a harmless bitch but a bitch nonetheless, and I fucking love it!! 😂😂😂 (I just wanted 1 bitch-off between him and Joo Won. Like a proper one! Where neither wants to back down)
This scene just proves that Dong Sik is the smartest in the room and is one step ahead of everyone and is sooooo bored. It’s the perfect time for someone smart and new to come into his life to shake things up, isn’t it? 👀 Also, the women from the salon were taken to the station with perming lotion on their hair… GOODBYE HAIR!! SEE YA! RIP. That hair is literally being burned off as they argue over their innocence
I love the first time Joo Won arrives (properly… aside from his stalking) at the station, we are shown him pausing to observe what is happening. Joo Won is highlighted as an outsider, looking in
Not Gil Goo wanting to break the rules and asking Dong Sik to let things slide!!!!!
Tumblr media
💀💀 isn't that what he gets arrested for in the end???
🔊ATTENTION. ATTENTION. PLEASE MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION. HAN JOO WON HAS ENTERED THE BUILDING. I repeat... HAN JOO WON HAS ENTERED THE BUILDING 🔊 🚨 IN FUCKING SLOW MO!!!!🚨
The “sea” of women part, making way for him… kind of like how the Red Sea parts for Moses, js
Of course, Dong Sik doesn’t look up from the computer until he hears THAT voice… I get it, Dong Sik, no judgement here. I totally get it. 😌
Joo Won has the fucking AUDACITY to sigh before introducing himself! Girl, YOU SET THIS UP. YOU WANTED THIS. THIS IS YOUR BIG MOMENT. WHY ARE YOU SIGHING??? (maybe it’s cause he knows he can’t go back now??)
🫠Yeo jin goo’s voice should be illegal🫠 Them:
Tumblr media
Me:
Tumblr media
In case you were wondering… dong sik fancies joo won from the get-go 🤷‍♀️ i don't make the rules Note: This is also the last scene Joo Won has any resemblance of “coolness” or can be seen as “chill”, which is hilarious considering all the hoops he put himself through to get to this moment 😂
In the scene with Joo Won and Sang Bae, I’m really taken aback by how young Joo Won seems. I know it’s because Jin Goo was like 22(??) when they filmed this, but yeah… he seems very… unprepared for what he’s about to face (which he is) “Delaying things isn’t really my style” Well, you sure did delay arresting Dong Sik, didn’t you???? I guess with everything in Joo Won’s strict life, Dong Sik is the exception to the rule
Joo Won’s first question about his new job is “who is my partner?” and I’m just screaming. I wrote about this scene here (but I’ll sum it up now: I think he wanted Dong Sik to be his partner)
Sang Bae isn’t really the kind of person to care about other people’s opinions of him. But in his first scene with Joo Won, he seems almost embarrassed that his computer crashes. He has a nervous energy and keeps laughing to downplay that embarrassment. Do you think he knew Joo Won came from Seoul and was worried that his smaller substation (later referred to as “the worst” substation by Hyuk) may be looked down upon?? Or… perhaps it’s all an act to make Joo Won warm up to him???
One of my favourite scenes of the whole show is where Dong Sik is pretending not to listen to the gang when they're talking about Joo Won. I. LOVE. IT!!! I love how much he wants us to know that he “doesn’t care”, but then just ends up showing us that he really does, in fact, care. I personally think that he likes what he hears about Joo Won’s accolades (although he's singing THIS to himself😂), and only seems to sour once he’s informed of who Joo Won’s father is. His disappointment is soooo apparent. He cannot and does not hide it. That’s a super interesting detail to include… it says a lot. (it's also the first time in the show that Dong Sik shows any interest in someone). Dong Sik learns that HKH is Joo Won’s dad, and his first reaction is quiet disappointment, NOT excitement… He cares more about Joo Won, the person, and not Joo Won, the chess piece. Hmmmmmmmmm... interesting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(it's okay baby, you'll get him in the end dw)
Note that the camera lingers on Dong Sik when Gil Goo points out that Joo Won is handsome and physically fit… 👀👀👀👀 Also, when Joo Won is put down on paper, he’s super impressive and almost untouchable. But through Dong Sik, we get to see that it’s bullshit. Joo Won isn’t the person his father wants him to be (i.e, the perfect student and police officer). I really like that we’ve been told to be impressed by him, without getting to know him, and it’s only when we get to know Joo Won, do we get to see that he’s a walking contradiction (and he’s as human as everyone else). We shouldn’t view him through the narrow lens he and his father put him in, because he is so much more than that  Sang Bae lets Dong Sik process a missing person’s case, even if they technically can’t do it within the confines of the law!!! 😩 Fucking hell, they really showed that guilt from the get-go, didn't they??? This scene is so goddamn important for the whole show!!! I JUST!! Ah! and of course it’s Dong Sik who first highlights the restrictive nature of the SK's laws. Joo Won watches this whole interaction (and gets turned on). He listens to the difference between a “runaway” and a missing person… what does Joo Won’s job become at the end of the show?????? 😩😩 I'm fine, I promise Joo Won leaves the station after getting one last look at Dong Sik and then later on (how long was he driving around Manyang, cause it is daytime and suddenly it’s nighttime??) in his car checking Dong Sik out, are the first warning signs of the Inner Slut ™ begging to be unleashed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, I guess Dong Sik walked to work that day???
When I first watched BE, I wasn’t a huge fan of Dong Sik popping pills for his leg injury*. I’m still on the fence about the fact that he bites the pills and seems to eat them, instead of swallowing them whole. But then again, this guy is severely depressed and a smoker, so maybe he doesn’t care about the taste… or for the health of his teeth and gums???? It doesn't matter. I'm convinced that Dong Sik was thinking about Lee Sang Yeob in this scene because Joo Won reminds him of him (they have glaring similarities) and that's what causes his leg pain *During my first watch, I immediately knew it was psychosomatic pain. It’s a pretty easy visual motif to show us that he’s dealing with unresolved trauma.
Gosh, Joo Won really did watch Dong Sik cross the road, getting all horny cause Dong Sik can recite the criminal code from memory… and then later uses it as a way to flirt, showing that he cares enough to listen and that he retains that information... that really is one of Joo Won’s biggest love languages
Tumblr media
ugh. Gay people.
So, yeah... that's all I wrote and I don't have the brain power to finish it. But I hope that was entertaining for you all See ya!

i love imagining hubert von fire emblem and kaz von six of crows meeting because it is fun and delightful and stupid. they both think they’re the edgiest mf to walk this planet earth. they both have cheekbones for days and ridiculous collars and leather gloves. they’d hate each other vehemently. somehow, hubert is the nicer one there. he smacks kaz over the head for how he treats inej. also, nina and dorothea are there and they are best friends. edelgard and petra are turning the wraith gay. ferdinand? von aegir.

🏳️‍🌈🧡
🏳️‍🌈: Which character who is commonly headcanoned as queer doesn’t seem queer to you?
I'm gonna talk Fire Emblem. YOU DIDN'T SPECIFY SO HA.
I do happen to think more characters in Three Houses are mlm/wlw than a number of people are willing to acknowledge (I don't consider "can be romanced by either gender Byleth" to be the only metric when some of them kids got gayass endings); like, Dimitri is absolutely bisexual. Claude, though...?
So this isn't really "I don't think Claude is queer at all"—I personally headcanon him as aspec—but I think he's exclusively attracted to women. Like, compare his supports and paired endings with Lorenz (where "diplomatic relations" is the furthest thing from a euphemism) and Balthus (where Balthus straight-up just marries an unnamed woman) to Dimitri's endings with Dedue (fellas is it gay to take up vigil at your liege's graveside and then be buried alongside him) or Felix (I'm grieving for him harder than his unnamed wife did because we're PLATONIC FRIENDS obviously). As I just said, a character's relationship to Byleth isn't the only metric for this, but I think it's pretty telling that nothing about Dimitri's interactions with or about Byleth change based on their gender, while some of Claude's dialogue adds in lines specifically about finding female Byleth attractive.
I mean, both Claude and Dimitri have paired endings with female characters that are giving contractually obligated (I can't imagine Dimitri/Ingrid or Claude/Leonie are terribly popular), but I feel like people interpret Claude as bisexual because he's charming and Dimitri as straight because...I guess his route has the most traditional Fire Emblem elements? Meanwhile, the actual situation is the complete opposite in terms of like, raw homoeroticism.
(As far as Critical Role is concerned, while I don't have a preference either way, I do see where @revvethasmythh is coming from that Jester has some ally energy. I do like bi4bi Fjorester too though!)
🧡: What is a popular (serious) theory you disagree with?
For FE3H, I think Teacher Theory is still very stupid and hasn't been ridiculed enough*. Like Edelgard works with a mole man death cult that does human experimentation and kidnapping and she personally has a secret pet serial killer and starts a war, but hiring bandits to kill her political rivals is suddenly beyond the pale and El Would Never**? And the obviously smarter 4d chess play would be to...get the church to hire the aforementioned secret pet serial killer (who already works there) to be the head teacher of her house, thus putting him under increased scrutiny? lmao ok
For Critical Role...okay, this is retroactive, but I gotta admit that the "'did she know' was actually Rashinna!" theory was not good, at all, and would have been incredibly boring if it had been true. (Also, just logically, why would Rashinna have ONLY sent that message to the two Ruidusborn?) If my understanding is correct people didn't want to say anything on the slim chance it was right, but once the episode aired the general consensus was "PHEW we're good c'mon man, seriously? We gave airtime to that?".
*I'd address the fanon coming out of the hardcore "genocide is okay" Edelstans (straight up just "source: I made it up"), but like, the question specifies 'popular' and that portion of the fandom has only gone more insane because they know everyone thinks they're all absolutely corncobs.
**If in an attempt at media analysis you call fictional characters by nicknames, cutesy or otherwise, you have waived the right to be taken seriously.

Slash Ships to Get to Know Me
Bleep (@bleepbloopbotz) resurrected this tag game from the depths of her notifications and tagged me and Annie (@udaberriwrites) on it, and of course, Annie being Annie went and tagged me too, so yay~
It got me thinking a bit, and I figured I might as well, since I never actually sat down and listed all the ships I had - slash and femslash alike. I'm only listing the major slash ones for now, but I'll continue my list beyond that... for real, though, I need to do this same exercise for my femslash ships (yes, I saw your tag, Annie, and will get to it soon!)
**Rules**: Name at least five (no upper limit) slash (M/M) ships you love. Each from a different fandom. (Sadly, I have no pictures here).
1 - Twilight & Life and Death
I'd be pretty remiss if I didn't mention the two slash ships I'm actually writing right now - Carlisle/Beau (MM Bellisle) and Edward/Mike. Being the only writer of the former ship (as of today) is quite the interesting experience! At first, they were just convenient characters to carry out worldbuilding plans... but jokes on me. I became a massive shipper as I wrote and I suckered Annie into them too XD
2 - Teen Wolf
I need to mention both my slash OTP, Steter (Peter/Stiles), as well as the Sterek (Derek/Stiles) ship that is so popular and well-known. I almost chose Teen Wolf as the fandom for my concept instead of the Twilight/Life and Death combination I settled on, and if I had, I'd be writing Steter and my femslash Teen Wolf OTP, Allydia, right now.
3 - Fire Emblem Three Houses
I'd also be pretty remiss if I didn't mention the slash ship that got me writing fanfiction in the first place - Ferdibert (Hubert/Ferdinand). I have no idea what about these two managed to get me writing after 15+ years of silent lurking, but they somehow did and I'm grateful, since it ended up in me being here, meeting so many lovely people!
4 - NBC Hannibal
Quite a few people know how I love the Hannigram (Hannibal/Will) ship - and I love that it's canon. It's the perfect darker ship for me! Heck, fun fact - I was heavily influenced by NBC Hannibal's fantasy-like sequences when I wrote Apricity's Azure Mystique dreamscape!
5 - Scum Villain (SVSSS)
You know what's interesting? Scum Villain is the only MXTX novel I've read, despite MDZS and TGCF being way more popular. I'm quite the fan of the main ship Bingqiu/Bingyuan (Luo Binghe/Shen Yuan), but I also love the dark ship that is original Luo Binghe and Shen Yuan.
6 - Ace Attorney
Decided to end this list with one of my more lighter, older, and cuter ships in Narumitsu/Wrightworth (Miles Edgeworth/Phoenix Wright). Also, Momo is selling me on Klapollo (Apollo Justice/Klavier Gavin), so there's that! I love Ace Attorney in general and I'm pretty confident Capcom was intentionally making the whole thing ridiculously gay lol
...
You know, looking at this, I noticed two similarities across all of them.
First, that they all have at least a shade of darker themes among them. Heck, even Ace Attorney's Narumitsu isn't free of the ambiguity either, with the angst and all.
Second... I strongly favor the magical and supernatural stuff. I mean... there are vampires in #1, werewolves in #2, dark magic in #3, magical themes despite technically not being that in #4, heavenly demons and cultivation in #5, and the sheer absurdity present in #6
Tagging @udaberriwrites @axolotlsupremacyowo @alpaca-clouds @sliebman10 @0nelittlebirdtoldme @mrsmungus and the open tag for anyone else interested.

Well first of all it’s ‘an’ emblem, so let’s fix this at once. How do I feel about it? The original Gilbert Baker flag is an amazing piece of gay art. I love the meanings in the colors and the thoughts behind the creation. I love how inclusive and diverse it is. I love that it also became a quick and easy shorthand for those of us looking for each other— something simple and discreet you could put on a car or in a window and know you weren’t alone. I like that it irritates Christians who feel like we stole the rainbow of God’s promise. I like rainbows so it’s fun to wear as a skirt or a scarf, and let your lgbt light shine.
The current iteration of the flag is ridiculous and kind of insulting. The trans community is included in the original rainbow, why do they now have an extra flag chunk poking in from the side? And also Black Lives Matter! Which of course they do, but why is that on the gay flag now? Allegedly the extra chunks stand for ‘diversity and inclusion across the entire spectrum of humanity while recognizing the diversity of the LGBT community’. Which I think the original flag did just fine.
So yes, I love Gilbert Baker’s flag and think it’s something we can all be proud of.

Was nearly not coughing at all, and then I helped a friend with something and have been hacking like a Persian cat since. Lesson learned: never help anyone.
Where was I? Something something something, edgy razorblade hairclip twink...
Oh, yeah. Why is the Brodia royal family a ridiculously exaggerated version of the Nohrfam? It's to the point of silliness. Perfect oniisan, insecure otouto, father that is alternately a warhawk and warm dad? What's going on here.
I sat there every time Diamant talked squinting at the screen going "I KNOW you..."--kept feeling like I wanted to bully him for some reason? And it's Suwabe! Definitely sounding more like Seofon than Emiya here.
I was gonna make jokes but this dude's dad is dead as fuck. We don't even have to make cracks about it. He's just dead as shit, we all know already.
lmao at the end of chapter 8 where they're like "we've defeated Ivy! Now capture her!" and she just goes 'nah' and leaves. Doesn't even do some magic bullshit teleport, just fuckin walks away. Engage is an iconic tokusatsu
...Amber is better than Alfred in every stat. Welp, to the bench you go, Even Gayer Dmitri.
Speaking of him, I got the Amber/Diamant C and man, they really did de-gay that in English, huh? Someone mentioned it in the comments and yep, Amber clearly says daisuki (I love you) where the English localized script has him trail off awkwardly. This shit just makes me fuckin...tired when I see it. I'm 95% sure it comes from a technically-well-intentioned place of localizers going "the implication is that his gay love would be a joke, which is homophobic! Imagine the articles Kotaku would write!" but the character is already so patently absurd that deleting a drunk love confession doesn't feel like they're trying to protect IRL gay feelings so much as protect everyone else from having to remember that gay feelings exist. Especially when being a raging homosexual for your lord is such a time-honored Fire Emblem tradition! Fuck it, man.
Oh, yeah, red country people. WONDER if that means something.
Master Seal recipients: MC, Framme, Chloe. Might regret that last one but she's been living the series tradition of being a hideously useful peggo.

Choose violence: 7, 12, and 24
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them? For some reason I'm having a hard time thinking of these, though I know there have to be some. There's definitely characters fandom has made me dislike MORE, or ones where I don't hate them in canon but am over the fandom portrayal (usually due to woobification.) But I'm blanking on examples for some reason. (Also is a whole piece of media an option here because I literally hate Star Wars because of the fans not the movies >.>)
12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them Hmm. The answer might at one point have been Boromir, but thankfully he seems to have had a reappraisal in recent years so it's only more casual fans who say stuff that makes me want to fight them XD
Actually you know what? My answer is going to be fucking Beautiful Suzuki from YYH. Is he absolutely ridiculous? Fuck yeah. Is Genkai wrecking his shit hilarious? Also yes. But Team Urameshi literally would have lost the tournament without his help- like indisputably, Kuwabara would have lost his match and Kurama (despite losing on a technicality either way) would have almost certainly been killed. He's actually smart and an incredibly skilled inventor trying to do his shit in a realm that seems to only value brute fighting skill (I love fandom portrayals of him as a bit of a mad scientist), and his little speech to them about wanting to help them prove that underdogs can win- even though they kicked his ass- always has me genuinely cheering. And he fights in the Dark Tournament because he's a famewhore, but he comes back to Kurama in s4 out of genuine loyalty and seems to have genuinely put the ego (mostly) in check. Also whatever he and Shishi have going on in s4 is cute XD
He is just a big gay diva who shoots rainbows out of his hands and I support him dammit Also NRS can still meet me in the pit over their treatment of Kung Lao but I'm not sure that counts either XD 24. topic that brings up the most rancid discourse
"Is Billy Hargrove racist?" which honestly shouldn't really be discourse because the answer is literally yes. Any discourse about if Seladon is evil or not- yes she mega fucks up, I would definitely agree for a little too long after being presented with the evidence (I don't actually lose my patience with her until she's in prison after that encounter with the Skeksis and still blames Brea, everything before that I basically understand where she's coming from even if she's wrong). But I've heard people say that she's WORSE than the Skeksis, and that she deserves her own genocide, in ways that always reek of misogyny, which. Wow fuck off. Also the champion personally is still "is LiuLao incest," because a) no, b) honestly don't even care at this point if it is, and c) fuck off forever. Any discourse about the Feanorians is always a mess but I kinda feel like that is appropriate because they are a mess and so are my feelings about them. Same with anything about Rhaenyra Targaryen/the rest of Fire and Blood/House of the Dragon. Any and all fandom purity culture horseshit. Also I have Very Strong opinions about which Fire Emblems are good and why but I just don't get into that anymore bc why bother

Please rank all Fire Emblem games you've played from gayest to least gay
Oh my god ok I'm gonna do this from least gay to most gay because I think it's more fun that way
Least gay: Fire Emblem Awakening. Granted it's been awhile since I played it and maybe I just missed a lot of it the first go around, but I don't recall feeling a lot of gay vibes from it.
6) Probably FE4. Not that FE4 doesn't have gay potential (it has so much gay potential) I just don't think it was fully realized. It's an older game, no supports or anything. There's so much they could do with it. Shannan and Oifey raising Seliph as gay dads??? Plus, you can't tell me that Sigurd, Quan, and Eldigan weren't all banging.
5) Fates. Look as much as I love Fates and all the gay ships in Fates I think it's still got some risidual Awakening on it and they didn't want to go too hard on the gay because they wanted to keep the marriage mechanic front and center. Niles and Rhajat are carrying the game hard to keep it from going full Awakening.
4) SoV. There's even CGs that look like boyfriends arguing over the best color for the kitchen backsplash okay. Oh, and it has the series' one (1) instance of an explicitly gay man that is not related to the avatar character in any way. Not higher because there's like no gay ladies tho.
3) Sacred Stones, maybe? This one is hard to place because I haven't finished it, but... I mean it's clear that everyone wants to bone Ephraim, right? It's not just me? Everyone is into him? Even the final boss? Cool. Eirika has some nice gay with some of the ladies as well.
2) Three Houses. Blue Lions truly are the BL house. I don't think Dimitri can go five feet without meeting another man who wants to lovingly rail him. He has sexual tension with basically every man he's ever been on screen with. Mercedes present for the ladies as well.
Gayest: Path of Radiance. Good god you cannot go two feet without stepping in something ridiculously gay. The fanfic practically writes itself. Ike has a cat boyfriend and a tsundere boyfriend. The pretty heron man gets sold to a creepy old dude and then is rescued by his boyfriend. The Lion King has his own Dedue. It's just. *Chef's kiss*. I'm not too far in Radiant Dawn yet but my lord, I'm pretty sure Tormod and Sothe banged and there is no heterosexual explanation for Heather.
"But Vee!" I hear you all saying, "there's no explicit same sex love in that game like there is in 3H/Fates/SoV! Shouldn't those games be higher" to which I say... yeah well it was made in the mid 2000's. If you think homophobia is bad now, think about how bad it was 20 years ago!

tag game shenanigans huh [rubs hands] thanks @catmanbowser its been a while since ive thought about my blorbos of days past
10 character/ 10 fandoms (this is actually very interesting because ive never rlly though abt them? i kinda just frantically slide them into their slots in my brain so)
1. sebastian debeste/ ace attorney : who would i be without my emotional support lawyer of choice. while i have my favourites from the games i think seb deb remains on top for like. one his relationship with his dad (hngh) two his relationship with himself as a person, his sense of self esteem and how it is affected by his entitlement, his lack of awareness etcertera and three god his Design rlly gets to me for some reason i love the owlish eyes the hair the baton that's really only there because he's icky abt touching gruesome evidence like. girl he's my best friend he's Me
2. danny rand/ ultimate spider-man : transed my gender when i was thirteen. saw him on d*sney xd and i was never the same. iron fist animated ver did so much for me as a person he was my coolguy surfer-vibe snarky but kind prettyboy crush
3. peppermint patty/ peanuts : honestly its not like peanuts is like a revolutionary piece of work but it gets me every single motherfucking time man. peppermint patty is kind of an asshole but i love her character and also gay gay holy shit i was a small queer kid once and so is peppermint patty (also marcy schrodinger charlie ily beloveds)
4. murtagh morgansson (and nasuada!!)/ eragon (the inheritance cycle) : the tragedy of murtagh morgansson effectively changed me as a pre teen i enjoyed the entire series so much (don't talk to me about eragon and arya hngh) but murtaghs arc as a person filled me with so much love like he loved his brother!! he was chained to his blood father!! he loves his dragon!! he made difficult choices for them both despite everything!! even his romantic interest was so well done i genuinely loved him as a character and i still do (and yet i like nasuada more i just think murtaghs character had more weight in the story)
5. frederick the great knight/ fire emblem awakening : cannot explain how much i would've played the entire game all over just to romance frederick instead of my girlboss crown prince chrom i had such a Massive Raging crush on him it's not even funny
6. jung heewon/ orv : yeah okay ideally it would be dokja because he's the sort of parasite that's latched onto my brain but god. god. i never recovered from jung heewon as a character i never will recover. she loves her friends so deeply (as does the entirety of kim dokja company if we're being honest) but god she is so powerful in her love and i think it's ridiculous how much i love her favourite ever jihye x hyunsung x me are so right in having a massive crush on her hngghghh
7. michelangelo/ teenage mutant ninja turtles : ive only ever watched the cartoon series and that was like a solid six years ago but i wanted to be him so bad it was fucking hilarious. i thought he was coolest shit since sliced cheese. mikey my belovedsest hngh i loved donny too but mikey just has a special place in my heart
8. boss/ underworld office : THIS GAME OH GOD. think the only time i ever spoke about it was with shiro but oh God oh god this game got me so good and im still rusty on the names and such but boss as a character was so incredible and im a sucker for a good powerful character who is the looker after of their friend group but also Every Single One of those characters were so good and i literally cannot recommend that game enough the art animatics and story is so good hngh (ticket system kinda frustrating but i can forgive them for it dammit)
9. hannibal/ nbc hannibal : ideally the title should go to freddie lounds and frederick chilton for being my favourite characters of the show but because i have a deep intimate relationship with hamball i guess he takes first spot. i talk abt him way too much anyways so i refuse to elaborate. the elaboration is that i also sniff people. that is all.
10. jiro horikoshi/ wind rises : idk if he counts as a fictional character but miyazakis version of him was- and i cannot stress this enough- so incredibly gender. also i was fascinated by aeronautical design and engineering and also the vintage male fashion rlly got to me man. one of my favourite ghibli movies till date
and that's ten!! that's not all of them but boy i really fucking love to talk huh (also a lot of these were difficult because all my favourite characters are my favourites in context of other characters so many of these should've involved more than one character but whatever) anyways thanks so much for the tag cymber i hope i didn't ramble too much :]

Apologies to anyone seeing this post! I just need a fast way to document some thoughts before I forget them (it's for the article i promise)
If Tatsumi and Shirogane are supposed to be commentaries on gendered expectations and gender essentialism, as they are, then they've failed in their entirety.
Tatsumi's narrative is pretty egregious in every way possible. His potential bisexuality is always a joke to make fun of gay men in particular. His shyness around Shirogane is treated as a light romantic oddity and like they're similar in being foils, but like. Not really? Tatsumi's dungeon is all a homophobic stereotype (literally all of it. Including the music). Tatsumi is never outright stated as gay or bisexual and yet is constantly mocked and belittled for the suggestion of light deviation from heterosexuality and machismo norms (Given how Japanese conservatism has been addicted to claiming that Japanese men are all weak and that's why society is collapsing, you can see some clear inspiration). Tatsumi's only "gay" moment is being assaulted by Kuma, which isn't gay and is pretty bad. It's framed as a joke of course, because Persona is very bad. A majority of the dialogue in the game relating Tatsumi in the main story is a joke about his sexuality and feminine interests, including when he gets aroused by Satonaka and Amagi and all of the times he's more interested in sewing. His side story is actually pretty good but it comes w/ the problem of being a Persona 4 side story (not important to the narrative; a repeat of the original tatsumi section in the main story).
Shirogane is pretty lesser, if only because she's barely in Persona 4 and once her dungeon is over, she takes over as the surrogate protagonist. That said, the way they use Shirogane is as a sex object and not as a person because of her gender. The "twist" that the boy detective is actually a girl, le gasp, doesn't work because a. Hardly a twist and B. They instantly treat her like they do every other femme party member, a soulless sex object who doesn't retain their lesson. Shirogane trades in a bit of the gender confusion for just plain shyness and social awkwardness, but it's only ever framed as if she's to be ogled at through a lense of fetishist intrigue. The only calm against this storm is that she's the only character w/ a braincell (until the awful Namatame murder attempt scene) and is basically just the actual protagonist now. Not a shock that the animated scenes start to prominently show her in charge. Cuz like yeah. Everyone is fucking stupid and incompetent to absurd degrees. Shirogane's side story is also pretty misogynistic towards her (In regards to her needing to be protected like I'm pretty sure a 15 year old w/ a fucking revolver and gun training in Japan is doing fine on their own there, bud but okay). Her dungeon's doors all have a Phoenix emblem and her final area is a surgery table w/ drills. Like. Man they just say the quiet part and think people are too stupid to see it (to be fair, a lot of persona fans are just stupid).
If there is any actual message towards social deviance in Persona 4, it's to tolerate the deviants at an arms length and nothing more. Like how else are you supposed to take any of this in a positive manner? Otherwise, the takeaway is literally that gay people deserve mockery and that any suggestion of changing one's gender or fitting outside of a gender role is worthy of ridicule? Like that's what the text fucking does and says 24/7
And who the fuck thought making Kuma a fucking sex pest was a good idea? Why did they copy paste that part for Morgana? I hate this fucking sub series so much wow

Fan Favorite Characters I Never Did Like
So this is something that I’ve been wanting to share recently. A short list of characters that are popular enough to be called fan favorites that I never did like. I’ll try my best to share my opinions about these characters. I would’ve included images but I didn’t feel like it.
Bridget (Guilty Gear)
I seriously don’t know what it is about Bridget that gives Guilty Gear fans so much hype. I think back when I used to be into this series, Bridget struck me as just a minor fighting game character that has no importance to the main story. If anything, Bridget looked more like the kind of fighting game character that has little or no fans at all.
I’m assuming Bridget’s popularity has to do with him being a cross-dresser. In all honesty, I only found Bridget to be unattracted and stupid looking. I was also upset to see that my favorite characters (back when I used to play Guilty Gear) such as Millia don’t have as many fans as this dude. It seriously made no sense to me that this cross-dressing male nun was loved in the fandom.
You’re free to argue that Bridget’s cross-dressing is part of how Guilty Gear uses classic rock music references and let me explain why. On Sol Badguy’s belt is the word “FREE” and from what I’ve read, it’s a reference to that Queen song “I Want to Break Free” and as it turns out, the song’s music video has Freddie Mercury dressed as a woman. Now I know that Freddie Mercury was a homosexual, but I’m not saying Bridget is gay. But to say that Bridget’s cross-dressing was inspired after that song’s music video is probably something I would be in denial of, not just because I hate this character, but because lots of other anime games have cross-dressing males just like him. As a westerner, I really don’t see what it is the Japanese like about cross-dressing male anime characters, but it bothers me to see how popular some of them are.
It’s like this, Astolfo from Fate/Apocrypha is a popular character in the Fate series. I would’ve included him on this list, but I won’t since I don’t like the guy for the same reason I don’t like Bridget. It just feels ridiculous to me that these characters are loved just for being cross-dressing males. Then again, Astolfo ends up being a main character, but compared to Bridget, the nun doesn’t have any importance to the main story. I seriously can’t stand to see that smiling look on their faces. They just look like really stupid characters.
Now I know I’ve said this in a different post, but I’ll include it anyway. You’re free to call me a hypocrite for hating Bridget and Astolfo even though I like the Danganronpa cross-dressing male Chihiro Fujisaki. I’m gonna admit that out of the DR1 cast, Chihiro was someone I was interested in, but after learning about the twist of him being a male, I tried to keep my distance. But there came a point where I realized that I actually do like Chihiro. At least his reason for cross-dressing is a bit more emotional since bullying is involved, whereas Bridget’s reason is for stupidity and Astolfo is probably a homosexual. But maybe I just found Chihiro to be more attractive looking than these guys.
In the end, Bridget’s popularity is one reason I stopped playing Guilty Gear. I just couldn’t tolerate the fandom giving him more love than my favorites. And it bothers me that if I end up playing a different anime game with cross-dressing males, there’s a chance that they’ll end up being loved in their fandoms too. Like, I lost interest in wanting to see a playthrough of Rain Code because I didn’t like the chapter that involved the boys dressing up as girls. I mean, it could’ve been to call back on Chihiro, but to me, Bridget’s popularity is the first to come to mind and that’s not a good thing for me. Heck, even the cross-dressing outfit Link had in Breath of the Wild almost made me think of Bridget and I do my very best not to think about that.
Tharja (Fire Emblem)
Just to be clear, I’ve never played Fire Emblem Awakening, but I want to explain my opinion about Tharja.
I’ve read that the purpose of Tharja’s character is fanservice, such as having a very revealing outfit, a yandere personality and an obsession with Robin. While I admit that I like fanservice every now and then, Tharja’s dark personality was a turn-off for me.
Tharja came across to me as disturbing and creepy and I didn’t even want to play as her in Fire Emblem Warriors. Like, in that game, when you raise your bonds with Tharja, she’ll say something like, “It seems the hex I cast on you is starting to take effect.” She just wasn’t appealing to me and yet Fire Emblem fans seem to show a lot of love for her.
After seeing this video to understand her better, I had hoped to give Tharja another chance. But it didn’t make a difference. I generally think Tharja is a dark character who doesn’t care about the other characters or even care about going into battle. Even playing as Tharja in Fire Emblem Warriors didn’t change my mind. Aside from talking about curses and hexes during battles, she has a special skill that involves draining her health which doesn’t really come in handy for me. If my first save file for that game had the option to kill-off your members when they die in battle, I probably would’ve wanted to kill-off Tharja just so she’d shut up the next time I go to the camp. But I’m stuck with her, and playing a new game is gonna take forever.
As it turns out, Camilla is a character that was made for the same purpose as Tharja. Fanservice, yandere-like personality and an obsession with the protagonist. Compared to how I don’t like Tharja, I actually have a thing for Camilla. In my opinion, Camilla is a much more caring and seductive person and probably has a bigger bust size than Tharja. And while I’ll admit that I like Tharja’s long dark hair with bangs, I find Camilla to be far more attractive. But compared to Camilla’s obsession with Corrin, I generally didn’t like Tharja’s feelings for Robin. Like, I wouldn’t want to see her put a hex on them and get them to like her. And compared to how Tharja feels for Robin, she doesn’t care about anyone else, so I generally see her as an uncaring person.
I’ve read that there are Fire Emblem fans who do like Tharja for being a big breasted goth girl. Big breasts aside, I’m generally not big on gothic themes. But of course, there are gothic characters in Danganronpa that I do like, namely Kirumi Tojo and Celestia Ludenberg. They’re actually a lot nicer compared to how dark and negative Tharja can be. I personally headcanon Kirumi as a caring person, and while Celestia can be a liar who only cares about herself, at least she acts nice to everyone and is always putting on a smile. Tharja doesn’t smile unless it’s something related to Robin.
Strangely, even though I don’t like Tharja and don’t like seeing how Fire Emblem fans call her a fan favorite, I can’t say the same thing about Rhajat in Fire Emblem Fates. I don’t know why, but I don’t hate Rhajat as much as I don’t like Tharja. Maybe it’s because Rhajat isn’t as popular since she’s a recycled character. But apart from that, I never really liked Tharja and it does sometimes bother me to see fans love her.
Miu Iruma (Danganronpa)
Were you expecting Ibuki Mioda? Well, since I’ve already made a really long blog on why I don’t like Ibuki, I won’t be talking about her. Instead, I’ll be talking about a different Danganronpa character that the fandom loves that I don’t, and that’s Miu Iruma.
I’ll admit that when I first saw a playthrough of NDRV3, I did take interest in Miu. But after a while, I’ve come to accept Miu as one of my least favorite characters. Her aggressive behavior gave off the impression that she’s more of a bully than a sexy genius, like, it bothered me when she told Shuichi to get down on his knees and get the signboard like a dog and Shuichi was too weak to stand up to her.
When I got the opportunity to play V3, having to deal with Miu was just a pain in the butt. I felt uncomfortable having to get her Free Time Events, her Love Suite Event and dating her in the bonus mode, what with her constant use of slurs, extreme profanity and sexist remarks. She just wouldn’t shut up about her sex life. It even bothers me to see that Miu’s Love Suite Event on Youtube has more views than my favorite Love Suite Events. I generally don’t want to ship Miu with Shuichi.
Of course, Miu is not the only character in Danganronpa who says sexist stuff just to be annoying. I’m not talking about Teruteru, I’m talking about Toko Fukawa. Like Miu, I thought the sexist stuff Toko said was annoying, namely in chapter 4 where she teases Makoto when he tries to have a talk with Sakura. She just wouldn’t shut up even when I wished she would and it made me realize that the things Toko said reminded me of Miu. Strangely, unlike Miu, Toko doesn’t actually want to admit that she’s a tad sexual.
If it weren’t for Miu’s inventions being an important part of the second half of the story, I would’ve traded her life just to have Kaede or Kirumi back. But maybe I felt that way because being fed up with Miu’s bullshit made me realize how much I miss those two, that and seeing Miu having more fans than my favorite Danganronpa characters. And yes, I’m aware that Kodaka wrote Miu to be hated even though the fandom loves her. Toko I don’t hate so much, but like Miu, she can be annoying too.
Alisa Bosconovitch (Tekken)
I’m not sure if I would call Alisa a fan favorite, but I do want to share what I didn’t like about her when I first met her.
I think out of the Tekken 6 newcomers, Alisa was among my least favorites. I think one thing I didn’t like about her were her weapons. As a robot, she has chainsaws attached to her arms. To me, it felt like Alisa’s chainsaws were some sort of reference to the chainsaw guns in Gears of War. That’s literally the first thing that came to mind at the time. It felt like Alisa’s chainsaw arms were some selling point Tekken 6 had to try and make the game appealing to Gears of War fans since shooting games like that one were all the rage back in the late 2000s. I don’t know why this bothered me, but maybe it’s because I was literally picked on in school for having a PS3 and not an Xbox 360.
Things only got worse when Tekken 6 came out on console and I tried out the Scenario Campaign… and failed. The Alisa boss fight was a pain in the butt for me when I first played the game back in 2009. She’s incredibly strong, I mean, there’s no easy difficulty in the Scenario Campaign, so at the time it was kinda disappointing that I couldn’t figure out how to beat Alisa. As a result, I gave up playing and wanted to believe that the story mode's ending was non-canon. Since then, I had a hard time liking Alisa when Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and the CG movie Tekken: Blood Vengeance came out, with Alisa being one of the main characters in the movie.
But I’ve come to forgive Alisa nearly two years ago when I gave the Scenario Campaign another chance… and was successful this time. Obviously one thing I failed to notice was that the customization isn’t just any customization, the outfits actually have stats that increase your health, attack, defense etc. It proved to come in handy now.
With the release of Tekken 8, I don’t really hate Alisa so much anymore and felt comfortable playing the story mode with her. But compared to Tekken characters that are my favorites, I was never interested in Alisa, and when I do play Tekken, I don’t normally play as her.
In Conclusion
This is really all that’s on here. I was originally gonna include Maho from Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters, but I wouldn’t really call her a fan favorite, I just didn’t like her even though she’s one of the main characters (The real Neptunia fan favorite is Noire who I do like). But I guess after writing that long blog on why I don’t like Ibuki Mioda, I wanted to share why I don’t like these characters to see what people think. If you do like these characters, just try not to shove them in my face all the time.

Oh gawd... I saw that argument again...but in another fandom this time!
"Why are you complaining that gay relationship options aren't available with this character? Their canon is to be straight, so just accept it, like in real life, when someone isn't a compatible orientation with you."
My dude…. This is a VIDEO GAME. A FICTIONAL FANTASY FULFILLMENT. The whole point is for the player, whomever that may be, to be able to play at whatever fantasies they want, ESPECIALLY scenarios UNREALISTIC TO REAL LIFE.
Today's rant was inspired by comments I saw on a Fire Emblem post (https://www.tumblr.com/losebetter/186897517231), but I'm bringing back my same argument from when Persona 5 made all the female characters romancable, but none of the male characters, and dudes came out of the fandom woodwork to complain about our complaints that there were no gay romance options: It's REALLY SUSPICIOUSLY heteronormative, with homophobic implications, if only the straight romance options are available. And it also suspiciously echoes the realistic misogyny, happening everyday AND throughout most of history, if the female cast is treated as this menagerie of options to choose from, like objects on a shelf, all ready and waiting for you, but none (or barely any) of the male cast is. If you really want to play the "true to real life" card of "each character has a canon orientation and you have to respect that, regardless of whatever fantasies you want to play and expect the game to cater to", then why are ALL the girls available to date? If you want realistic, then some of the girls shouldn't be interested, even if "gloriously irresistible protagonist-kun" chooses them. (jfc As if protag-kun being irresistible to everyone wasn't enough of a hint that the whole point is fantasy/wish fulfillment.) Some of the girls should turn him down because they're lesbians or aroace. Some should turn him down because they've already got a crush on someone else. Some, because they're really just not interested in protag-kun, regardless of having compatible sexual orientations. (BTW Supergiant Games' Hades did this well with Dusa.)
This whole, "we shouldn't get upset that gay romance options aren't available, because that's also how it is in real life sometimes", is RIDICULOUS. It denies that the ENTIRE POINT of videogames, ESPECIALLY OF DATING SIM aspects, are for fantasy fulfillment. Why do only straight guys and occasionally straight girls get their fantasies catered to? Letting games get away with no gay romance options, is just perpetuating queerphobia and heteronormativity. We shouldn't put up with it, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE it's a fictional world, where people CAN make up ANYTHING. So why stay limited, especially to reality?
If you want to advocate for "not enough memory space" or "not enough production time for the studio", then just make a later DLC or alternate version. Like Persona 3 Portable's female protagonist option, to supplement Persona 3's male-only protagonist route. Although, that was 14 years ago. Nowadays, we have things like Assassin's Creed Odyssey, where the gender change is just a skin swap. (Not that AC Odyssey's writing is an example of how to represent queer routes well, from what I've heard.)
