★ What is the longest book you’ve read? Well, Oathbringer held that spot since 2020, but a couple weeks ago I finally got around to reading Rhythm of War and at 460k words (1232 pages!) it now holds the top spot. I listened to the audiobook and followed along with the physical book, which really is the way to go for me with beastly books like this. The audio is over 57 hours long, but I listened at about 2.25x, and it wasn’t near that daunting. 😅 Also, I loved it—five stars, all around. So that is a little excerpt from the book Rhythm of War. It is in the early part of the book and the context of it in no way relates to me. Yet the words themselves I find tumbling in my head this night over and over. This is probably because out of context I can completely relate. The past few months have been rougher on me than I first realized and as of tonight I think it is safe to say I have reached a breaking point. Much like the wind runners didn't know about there casualty, my little corner of the world knows not of the casualty that they have suffered tonight.

I am not one to give in to depression, but as I sever the only meaningful relationship I have left I find that resisting it is hard. It is the severing of this bond that caused the loss of me tonight. It is not one I wished to sever, but I had to do it none the less. Yet despite my agony, no one else I know is even aware of it. This is my fault. I don't open up, I don't maintain my friendships. Not the way a good friend should anyways. Which leaves this little blog, which is as maintained as those friendship, the only place I have to vent my sorrow. Because to show this side to those friends now would feel just as bad as holding it in. What right have I to disturb their lives with problems of my own making? So instead I wallow in self pity much like the single windrunner casualty mentioned above. And like him I simply have to find something else to do.

Ok I’m like not even 8 chapters into rhythm of war, didn’t read the preview chapters online had the tag/spoilers blocked for months, and what has caught me off guard the most? “Nale’s nuts” just some random unnamed soldier using “Nale’s nuts” as a curse . Like it is SO insignificant but I will not be able to forget it it’s just so ridiculous and hilarious to me mr. javert-type no-nonsense followthelaw herald NALE’S NUTS if he had a cereal brand that’s what it would be called

★ Have you read any of Brandon Sanderson’s books? I’ve read almost all of the Cosmere books and it’s by-far one of my favorite universes to escape into. I still need to read The Bands of Mourning, Elantris, Rhythm of War and a couple of the novellas, but hope to get to each of those this year. I watched Brandon’s “An End to Secrets” video earlier and when he got to the big reveal I was like “Oh crap! Stop video! I just finished reading RHYTHM OF WAR on this last Monday, and, STORMS, that was a ride. I don't think it's my favorite in the series, but it was still incredible. There's a lot of amazing character moments and developments and LORE, and it was just . . . awesome. (It also took me a while MONTH to get through, so I am very ready to move onto new books. It's a heavy story in more ways than one, and it's intense enough that reading it before bed meant that it didn't matter how much self-control I had; it would keep me up no matter what.) It had been a whole century since the day Yaz, Ryan, and Graham decided to go their separate ways with the Doctor. A whole century since she’d be taken to somewhere unknown. A whole century of seeing faces come and go but only to torture her. There was no interaction aside from pure punishment and pain. All because she wanted to preserve history.

Apparently she’d messed with the wrong person, because despite the fact that Krasko couldn’t harm her, that didn’t mean he didn’t have friends. Of course they were not kind. They were cold and cruel. Perhaps the most cruelest thing was she was left alone. Bruised, battered, and left literally hanging. They’d even stripped her completely down for maximum effect.

She was strong at first, thought she would get out in no time flat. The Doctor stubbornly believed that she would survive, that she couldn’t break. Of course most of that strong will was gone. By now her companions were gone, everyone she cared about gone. What else did she have? Just herself.

The Doctor heard footsteps but was too weak to move, her body practically limp. She didn’t even look up as her now long blonde hair covered her face. Just another session to suffer through.

“Go ahead, do it already,” Her voice was dull and void, and slightly horse from the lack of proper nutrients. “Finish the job while you’re here.”
