Fine I'll give you some more book asks since you acted all pathetic and reblogged it again and begged for more: 18, 25, 30, 42, 43, 50, 51, 55, 61, 67, 68, 80, 86, 99, 100, 102 (lol), 104, 117, 118, 124. Also you must answer them all in one sitting (no drafting) otherwise the curse of the procrastinating tumblrina will fall upon you
Hahahaha omg yes, brilliant, love it, love you
18 your least favorite book ever
I mean there have been a fair few bad choices I've picked up along the way. But that I actually finished?
I really do think it might have been Twilight. Granted I did go in expecting to hate it, but it still managed to be blander and worse than I thought it had any right to be for a series with such devoted following.
25 a book by your favourite author
I said this in another answer but I don't really have favourite authors like that anymore. There are many good authours out there and I will read a series or two but I don't go looking for their names like I used to. But so far I guess Erin Morgenstern is a 2 for 2 author with very beautiful prose in both The Night Circus and The Starless Sea
30 your favourite middle grade book
So I've already talked about Narnia, HP, and my love for Eva Ibbotson but that was pretty much what I read back then. So I'll just mention Which Witch? by Eva Ibbotson as well. I don't remember many details from it, but I do remember that I laughed my way through it, which is never a bad thing.
42 a book that made you want to scream by the time you got to the end
I remember A Storm of Swords by George RR Martin made me call you and scream at your answering machine lol
It was bad enough that the Red Wedding happened, but then right after we've seen the massacre the next chapter is from Aryas point of view again and it's her and Sandor reaching Riverrun and she is So Close to being with her family again, to being safe. But he is mean and harsh and won't let her run off and if I remember correctly he takes out his fucking axe and hits her in the head with it. And that's how the chapter ends???
I mean obviosuly he hit her with the blunt side and only enough to knock her out, but we have Just Seen how you can't trust anyone, and then she's with this big mean killing machine who she doesn't get along with, and he hits her with an axe??? Fuck man! Rude-ass bitch is what Martin is. But what else is new, you know?
43 a book that you have read more than three times
Harry Potter. And yes, I am well aware about how much we're all hating on Rowling now, please don't misunderstand me. But I had read the first 3 books over 30 times before the series finished. I used to re-read them about once a year. There is not a single book that even comes close to the amount of times I've read them. No, not even Narnia.
50 a book that made you cry a LOT
The Glass Lake by Maeve Binchy fucking wrecked me when I read it in high school. Like it is off to a pretty grim start with a mother leaving her family and them thinking she killed herself as is, but then it gets even More emotional. I remember this one chapter that just left me sitting there shellshocked for the better part of an hour, those of you who have read it will know when.
51 a book that you found underwhelming
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I know! I'm sorry! I love the movie and bbc miniseries as much as the next hopeless romantic but the book just kind of... didn't live up to it? Reading it you can kind of tell that it is her first novel and certain things are a bit rushed and clumsy. I still enjoyed it, but I was expecting to love it, you know?
55 a book with a satisfying ending
Chronicles of Narnia: The Last Battle. Them dying just felt right to me. Not that I wanted them to die-die of course, but the way that it happens? Yes. It all came full circle and I always found a certain comfort in the way he let them die and stay dead (to our world).
None of this rising from the dead bullshit. Just tell a good story and wrap it up like a neat little bodybag. Only cowards let protagonists rise from the dead. Looking at you JK, yes even when I first read the book.
61 your favourite horror novel
Ok so reminiscing on books I read as a kid has me thinking, one of the books that really had me Scared for real when reading was probably The Witches by Roald Dahl. And like yes, I know, it's a childrens book. But it's a Scary childrens book. And I was a Child. I just remember the horror as he found out he was stuck in a hotel infested with child-eating witches *shudder*
67 your favourite historical fiction novel
Rhett Butler's People by Donald McCaig, I really enjoyed Gone With The Wind, but this published fanfic/spinoff/prequel to that is just so good. It made me care for the characters in a whole new light all over again. And he always was my favourite out of all the original cast so it was nice to have some more ideas about what he had done before Scarlet threw that first vase at him.
68 your favourite piece of classic literature
Can I say Shakespeare here or did it have to be written as books-books? I'm deciding books-books is the premise so I guess I'm putting down Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. I don't like the ending, but after the book mentioned in #86 a bit further down it is better now. And I think it's the classic I've come back to the most so...
80 a book that reminds you of a loved one
The Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan that @hobbitsus lent me in high school was just a blast to read and I remember it fondly. And the whole story is just so very Her from when we were growing up which adds to the love.
86 a book with an insane plot twist
The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde. Yes again with me bringing in published fanfic of classic works but the whole premise is so good! There are people who can jump into books? There is someone who manages to jump into an original manuscript, thus changing all the copies of the book? There are detectives working on putting the original Jeyen Eyre back into order when this happens to her? And that is the reason the book ends the way it does??? Amazing.
I never quite liked the ending in Jane Eyre, there is this bit that just seems to come out of nowhere to me. In this book? It's because Detective Thursday was there doing whatever she wanted. This fanfic makes the original work better. But the way it twists to do so? 11/10
99 a book with a strong female protagonist
The Deed of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon gives us all that Girl power Asexuality Forge your own path representation and I am here for it. Does the last book feel like the same series as the first book? Not even slightly. But the books are still a fun ride and I recommend anyone wanting to read about a farmer's daughter running away to join the army and then being actually good at her job give it a try.
100 your favourite gothic novel
ok so in like my mind Gothic should be Old. Old as balls. But I will also admit to Wanting to read books that old more than I Actually read them. So I will be cringe enough to just go with Interview With The Vampire by Anne Rice cause that's the book I loved in high school and the internet lets me classify it as goth even if it doesn't feel right
102 your favourite dark academia read
What even counts as Dark Academia though??? I feel like it should be an ancient and heavy-ass tome but most things I read are quite modern? Can I say The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley? Like the book took up a good part of my backpack when I read it in school, that should count for something right?
I liked the way it spanned three generations' worth of stories and all the mysticism going on. It was my first Arthurian fiction as well which felt very Big and Impressive at the time.
104 a fluffy, sweet read
A Hundred Pieces Of Me by Lucy Dillon was a really comforting and nice read that I liked way more than I thought I would when it comes to chick lit. I think of that book whenever I try to pick out a vase now lol
117 your favourite anthology
So do we count fairy tales here or no? Cause I kind of want to say Bland Tomtar Och Troll which is that swedish collection of childrens stories that had the most exquisite art in it and I was especially obsessed with the story about the mermaid Akmea who saved the beautiful sailor, or the one with the kindly white lion who showed up in someones yard.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sidenote: I went through these old books to find the pictures since google was no help and one has an inscription wishing me a happy 4th birthday, and one has me trying to write my name and it is the most stiltedly awkward penmanship ever and my gosh that's the cutest thing 🥺
118 your favourite short story collection
Hoo.. I don't read a lot of those but when I was in high school they would give out little paperbacks called "Färdlektyr" with assorted short stories and poems and I always looked forward to that semester's edition, does that count?
124 the book you’re currently reading
I started on The Forest Of Stars by Heather Kassner a while back, and realised that the first 5 chapters do not live up to my hopes and so have not read anything since I had to put it down at the end of a lunch break OTL
These were a lot to do in one sitting! I did take a short break for dinner, but otherwise I did do it all in one go, please be happy? :*

Who in hell seeing this would think of a Jew? This is some kind of a witch, with hyperbolic Baltic facial features, not necessarily Jewish. Idk why people associate long noses with Jews and with something bad?? I think long noses are sexy. This mask somewhat reminds me of my mom, so I physically can't associate it with evil. My guys, you need to stop associating facial features with Jews, that's some "Aryan race" shit.

Btw, the picture in my head when I hear "Jewish"👇

Top Dozen 2023 drama MLs so far
It's August, so not the end of the year, neither it is at halfway year mark, but why would I ever do anything like a normal person? Here my very very subjective list. I have limited myself to one dude per drama or LYF would be half the list. No order except alphabetical.
Chen Wende (Sun Yizhou in Gone With the Rain, China)
Tumblr media
The epic troll lord stole the whole drama as competently as he stole the FL's heart. He was competent and adult and oh-so-amused by but also gone for the heroine.
Gu Jiusi (Bai Jing Ting in Chang Feng Du/Destined, China)
Tumblr media
CFD lost steam for me halfway through but Jiusi's character remained a delight throughout and BJT gave a great performance as a golden boy who went through a bunch of hell and grew up but remained goodnatured at heart.
Han Dong Jin (Kim Young Kwang in Call It Love, Korea)
Tumblr media
You know, he and Jing (from LYF1) really fit the same mold even if one is in a mellow realistic modern and another in xianxia - lovely traumatized people from monster families who win over heroine with a metric ton of baggage through sheer unswerving decency. I have a type.
Jang Uk (Lee Jae Wook in Alchemy of Souls s2, Korea)
Tumblr media
I loved Uk in S1 and S2 continued that love - he's so intense, so grieving, so still in love with Naksu. LJW is always a good actor so it's such a pleasure to see him in a good role.
Kim Do Ha (Hwang Min Hyun, My Lovely Liar, Korea)
Tumblr media
The year of surprises - Minhyun, who I found utterly wooden in AoS stole my heart here as this hopeful, traumatized sweetheart of a man.
Kim Moo Chan (Park Hae Jin, The Killing Vote, Korea)
Tumblr media
Yeah, we are only one ep in but who said anything about this list was objective? PHJ brings his usual unsettling intensity to the role of a cop who breaks all the rules and teeters on the edge and now is set to catch a killer who really only differs from him in a matter of degree.
Lee Jang Hyun (Nam Goong Min in My Dearest, Korea)
Tumblr media
If I had to pick a favorite ML from this list, it would be between him and Jing (LYF). This is basically if you took Rhett Butler and took out slavery and rape but gave him a sword. The character is complex and nuanced and NGM is giving his usual incredible performance.
Lee Rang (Kim Bum in Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938, Korea)
Tumblr media
I was not a Rang fangirl for most of the original (even if he was well-acted; and he did win me over by the end) but I fell for him head over heels in this sequel/prequel/spin-off. I am so happy the man who believed he had nobody and was abandoned by everybody ends the story with his beloved brother and his beloved woman, both.
Moon Seo Ha (Ahn Bo Hyun in See You in My 19th Life, Korea)
Tumblr media
A lot of MLs on this list have serious trauma and haunted by it and can't let go of their past love (I have a type) but even by those standards, Seo Ha was such a lovely, quiet person slowly healing.
Tantai Jin (Luo Yunxi in Till the End of the Moon, China)
Tumblr media
Abuse victim/monster/praiseworthy king/xianxia saint/man on the brink - LYX portrayed a character in multiple timelines and many different complexities and did it amazingly. Tantai Jin may or may not win my favorite place on this list, but his performance was hands-down the most glorious thing this year.
Tushan Jing/Ye Shiqi (Deng Wei in Lost You Forever part 1, China)
Tumblr media
If before LYF aired someone would have told me that a character played by Deng Wei, an actor I've always found eminently forgettable, would make it on this list and be in the running to win the whole thing actually, I'd have wondered what weird reality they came from. They somehow managed to make someone genuinely good and kind not in the least boring; I am ridiculously invested in the man who managed to keep his soul after all he's been through.
Yun Xiang (Chen Xiao in The Ingenuous One, China)
Tumblr media
A schemer on a revenge quest, smarter than anyone else in the room but helpless in front of love. Yun Xiang was an adult in an adult story for adults and it was glorious.

Libra or seventh house 🎥✨🦄🐞🍄🪞🗝️♎️⚖️
Here we are starting off with the mask, which I feel very silly slapped. It slapstick kind of film with Jim Carrey, who has a really shitty kind of life, and then he becomes his other character in the mask, which is very labour like balancing out who he really is kind of like the naughty professor, but he takes a potion and he puts on a mask and become somebody else. It’s very funny and lighthearted for a libra like it also hurts like relationships with different types of people. Some of them are dodgy when he falls In love.
Hocus-pocus a bit of a silly one here which is on Halloween trying to hunt for children and take them away. Kind of season of the witches and the relationships between the witch assisted and what they are like and the relationship between the man that they turned into a cat who died And his relationship between them and the children in the film
All these films, now I think this is the most labour of them all black Swan, a very dark psychological thriller of adapting the films, Swanlake and how the girl has to embody both the white Swan and the black Swan. She goes through there psychosis becoming trying to become the black Swan while falling in love with her coaster who is to be the black Swan and her abusive relationship with her mother who doesn’t let her do anything else so put her foot out of place. She then becomes attracted to the girl and they have a lesbian that fling, or do they?
Gone with the wind, classic 1939 film with Clark, Gable and Vivian Lee as Scarlett and Rhett Butler. Scarlett is a spoiled Aries. I feel in the film with a Scorpio rising and probably a Scorpio Mars being her ruler but it’s all about her relationship with these different men and how she really love Ashley Wilkes, a man who is marrying us the best friend shares up and dance with Butler and it is during the Civil War times in America.
Last I have killed Bill I just thought it was a fast pace action film for a libra, and I added it to the list as the action film and dark kind of film for this list. I thought it had a bit of everything and that you could enjoy. actually we have she’s the man with Amanda bynes where she becomes her bar of Sebastian as a footballer where she has to pretend to be him and the things she has to go through is very fun and lighthearted.

Against The World Around Us
Chapter 2
The rewrite
Tumblr media
The sound of heels clicking against the freshly polished wooden floors alerted the maids and butlers of the approaching Queen and her dear friend The Baroness. Breaths were held as the pair passed each who stopped to greet the Queen with a bow each waiting to see the imperial act the way they were told imperials acted: cold and entitled but,all they received was a warm smile and a short greeting made in a soft voice that didn't intimidate them at all. Smiles of relief made it’s way on to the palace workers faces instead of dirty hostile looks she was once sure she would receive.
"See! You were nervous for no reason." Aurelia hummed looping her arm with the Baroness's.
"You can't blame me for being a little nervous.” Omorose huffs gluing a smile on as they passed by a few more.
Rolling her eyes Aurelia let out a laugh "look at you and look at them! Behaving like nervous School children!"
Omorose smiled grew with what her friend was saying realizing how funny the situation was.
“I’m considered an enemy in foreign land! I have a right to be nervous.” Omorose stated in a slight whine leaning into Aurelia's warmth.
"An enemy in foreign land... " Aurelia repeated her silly mood dropping and replaced with concern. "I hope you know you're safe here Rosie " Aurelia said squeezing Omorose's upper arm. Their Journey through the halls towards the Queen's drawing room that held a surprise halted as Aurelia assured her close friend.
Omorose didn't want to offend or worry Aurelia with her thoughts of concern that she forced herself to swallow when she decided to travel into Intacia. She counted the risks, she went over each scenario then she put on a brave face and never looked back.
“Thanks for the reassurance, Lia. It’s just the war is over and everyone is trying to pick up the pieces and I don’t know where it’s going to leave me in the end.” Omorose’s admitted “And I know that sounds selfish but being in my position right now is so stressful,”
“Marriage proposals, pleads to fund imperial campaigns, and people demanding to know which side you are on since a rise of resistance have surged so soon?” Aurelia listed already having some knowledge of what's going on through gossip.
A groan left Omorose’s lips at the mention of all the things she left in the imperial Capitol.
“Please!” She began to beg “let’s not go over those things! I’ve left those things in the coastal empire.”
“Alright …” Aurelia shrugged her shoulders “on a better note I … have a surprise for you in my drawing room!”
Curiosity peeking Omorose’s couldn’t help but to ask “A surprise?”
Nodding Aurelia practically dragged Omorose down the hall and stairs towards said room. Excitement radiating off of her, shining through her smile. Struggling to keep up in her delicate taller heels the Baroness made a few comments and requests for Aurelia to slow down especially as they descended the stairs but all her words fell on deaf ears leading to the Baroness tripping and nearly falling on her face. “Woah!” A voice said catching the Baroness by the waist “You have to be more careful, Beautiful.” They said in a more flirty tone. Before Omorose could show her appreciation to whoever stopped her from falling Aurelia pulled her arm.
“Aurelia can you please slow down!” Omorose’s pleaded turning to glance over her shoulder to see who saved her only to see king Rhett blocking her view
“Castin! It’s good you’re here” Rhett said as he pulled the other man into a hug.
“In your letter you said you needed me,” Castin stated mindlessly returning the hug “Brother.” He added solidifying why he was there despite giving his attention to the woman he saved from falling.
“Ah, I see you’ve met the Baroness,” Rhett playfully nudged Castin’s shoulder.
In disbelief Castin couldn’t help but ask “That’s the Baroness?”
His eyes started on her figure until she finally disappeared around a corner.
“That’s not what I pictured,”
Resisting an eyebrow Rhett gave Castin a questioning look “What? Didn’t expect her to be so pretty?”
A snort left Castin as he rolled his eyes. “So pretty?” Questioned Castin shaking his head not seeing that word correlate with the woman he briefly saw. ‘She’s gorgeous’ he thought allowing Rhett to lead him into the ‘war’ room.
Tumblr media
“Ta dah! Aurelia cheered opening the door to reveal a beautifully decorated cake, a bottle of champagne and a banner that read “Yay! The two headed dragon has been slayed by the sea!” Omorose’s read before turning to a proudly grinning Aurelia with a look that said ‘Really?’
“Oh don’t look at me like that! Your parents were evil.” Aurelia stated as of Omorose’s was unaware. “And you deserve to celebrate being free of them.” She added ushering Omorose into the room.
Eyeing the white cream and fresh berry covered three layered cake The Baroness couldn’t help but to crave a slice of the Berry Chantilly cake
“My favorite! Aw Lia, you remembered!” Cheesing Omorose took a seat as Aurelia threw confetti she pulled out what seemed like no where, the colorful pieces fell and scattered over the floor, table and all over Omorose.
“This is so sweet! I love it Lia, thank you.” Omorose went on, dusting the confetti off her cleavage and the top of her lilac dress.
“Oh no need to thank me. Your whole time here is going to be a good time! I know the sudden responsibility and getting hounded has your head spinning. If I can I’m going to try to my best to keep you at ease here.”
“YOU WANT ME TO GET MARRIED TO SOMEONE I DON’T KNOW!” Screamed the Baroness.
2 weeks had passed since Aurelia made the promise of trying to keep her friend at ease but as problems progressed between the rising Intacia and the fallimg Empire Aurelia had to put her friendship aside and her duties as Queen to the forefront.
Rhett her husband sprung the idea to her four days before she got the courage to bring it up to the Baroness.
"yes." Aurelia stated firmly drinking the remainder of the wine she brought to break the ice.
“You know how I feel about marriage-”
“I do! And I feel that you need to grow up!”
Taken aback Omorose hands found their ways to her hips as she hissed out “Excuse me?”
Aurelia bit her bottom lip mentally cursing herself out for adding fuel to the fire but, she couldn’t take back her words and she wouldn’t even think about doing so.
“Omorose you never give the chance to anyone to give you the relationship you keep telling me you long for! And I think I know why-”
“Why?” The Baroness demanded moving her arms to cross them over her chest. Her body buzzing with so much emotion it nearly felt like a wild fire swept across her.
“You’re scared you’re going to end up like your parents!”
A noise left the Baroness’s lips as she fell onto the soft cushions of the sofa. She knew she couldn’t deny that fact but there was another reason.
“Despite that Aurelia everyone that has approached me has shown me their true intentions-”
“So let me and Rhett pick for you! You can met them and if you don’t like them we can arrange for you to meet other suitors.”
“Do you think this would work? Marrying me off to an Intacian while the Empire rebels against you and Rhett?”
Aurelia repeated the lines that Rhett told her when he was convincing her why Omorose was the perfect candidate for the arrangement.
“You’re apart of a very influential and powerful family! You getting married to an Intacian who is equally influential could bring our people together. Show them that we can be one kingdom.”
“I have my doubts but for you and the potential peace I’ll do it.”
Relieved Aurelia pulled her friend into a hug.
“Wonderful! I’ll let you finish your night routine now. I’m going to tell Rhett.”
By morning Rhett had made his way to his number one pairing choice. Walking into the Barracks Rhett greeted his soldiers until he found his Commander.
“Heeeyyy Rhett? Whatcha doing here?” Castin asked walking back to his room from the communal bathroom. A towel hanging loosely around his waist and a toothbrush in his mouth.
“I’ve come to ask you to do something that could help us bring Intacia and the Empire together.”
That sentence made Castin’s eyebrow raise.
“Maybe we should speak in your room-”
Quickly Castin blocked Rhett from his door not wanting to to see who was on the other side. Familiar with this behavior Rhett disappointingly asked “who is she this time,Castin.”
A nervous laugh passed through Castin as he looked down at Rhett’s shoes to avoid his eyes.
“More like them-”
“Them! Castin your supposed to be a leader and a role model to those you lead and you have multiple women in your room-”
“I’m not on the battlefield I need to release this lent up energy somehow-”
“I think this proposition would be good for you.” Rhett claims shaking his head and pinching the bridge of his nose.
“A proposition?”
“An arranged marriage-”
“No!” Castin cut Rhett off shutting down the proposal. If he was going to be one half of a marriage he was going to be the one to pick the other half of said marriage.
“An arranged marriage to the Imperial Baroness Omorose Fentress.” Rhett went on to say waiting for Castin to shut him down again.
“Aurelia’s friend? That woman I stopped from falling?” Questioned Castin suddenly interested.
“Yes.”
Castin turned his eyes to the ceiling in thought. His toothbrush out of his mouth and his hands securing his towel.
He didn’t see much of her that day but he could tell she was a beauty. He weighed out the pros and cons of the marriage and couldn’t get passed the biggest con of them all.
“She’s an Imperial.”
“We are taking the Empire Castin it doesn’t matter.”
Doesn’t matter.” Castin scoffed.
“It doesn’t! Besides she’s nothing like the Imperials we’ve come across, trust me Brother.”
It went silent for a moment Castin still thinking it over before giving in.
“We’ll look at you getting me settled down like you.” He joked subtly agreeing to the arrangement.
“So you’ll do it?”
“Anything for you,Brother.”
“Good it’s settled then! I’ll make the arrangements for the engagement ceremony! You bring a gift to offer your bride.”
Just as Rhett finished his sentence Castin’s door opened and the stench of last night’s activities followed the three women who dressed scantily out of the room. Each giving Castin a kiss on the lips as a farewell. Stupidly grinning castin said “Goodbye ladies-”
“Castin!” Rhett scowled watching on in disappointment. The stupid grin fell from Castin’s face as he caught his ‘big brother’ figure peer down at him with a look that reminded him of his mother.
“Be sure to get checked out by the physician! Last thing you need to do is give the Baroness something incurable, and maybe try celibacy until you are wed.” Rhett suggested pushing Castin into his room before turn in on the heels of his feet to leave.

CW: 1 bullet point that mentions NSFW
I'm going to rant about the Desmond ASMR universe buckle up:
‐I am annoyingly biased about the war between the Empire and Intacia (partially because I am latin american myself) and everything Captain Dolian said was absolutely on the spot. Like??? The Empire SHOULD be paying reparations and SHOULD be getting a trial for war crimes. I'm pretty sure the war lasted several generations and since the Empire had literal benders on their side I cannot imagine the damage they would have caused to Intacia. There's a *reason* as to why most Intacians feel resentment towards Imperials and y'know what? I get it!!! Rhett and his Queen are way too idealistic, they're gonna withstand a BUNCH of revolutions because uniting the nations after everything that happened is NOT a good idea.
- Talking about uniting the nations, WHY? AND HOW? In the third (?) ep of Castin's series the guy butler guy from the Empire says that Rhett is both the King of Intacia and the Emperor of the Coastal Empire. Is Rhett both at the same time??? Are they gonna truly unite the nations or are they gonna stay separate??
- Why has not the Empire taken over the entirety of North America? I know they're the *Coastal* Empire but that dosen't mean they should only make their territory the Coast. There is a bunch of land that is unoccupied west to what is labeled as the Coastal Empire. Why isn't that land part of the Coastal Empire? Does anybody live there? Is it a no-man's land? I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS.
- How on Earth did Rhett and the Ascendant become King and Queen, respectively? HOW? Did they stage a coup d'etat? I personally have my own theories but how did it exactly happen?
- How advanced is technology is that Universe? They have T.V's and phones as we saw in the last audio, but just how advanced are they?
- How much do the people know about the Old World?
- This is a bit of my own thoughts, but I am 99% sure that the Undercity has some sort of red district. The last audio just kinda cemented that for me. The guy mentioned brothels and it just popped in my mind, I don't know why.
- Talking about the undercity, thanks to the last audio we know that anti-slavery movements are happening in Steelgate (most likely thanks to Cupcake and her speech), and I'm just wondering, how is this gonna pan out? We know there's some slaves that fight in the gladiator arena for entertainment, and that people who are slaves BECOME slaves because they committed a crime (no matter how petty it is as we saw with Warren) Is the justice system in Steelgate just gonna, collapse?
- What happened to Warren's brother? I NEED TO KNOW!!
- Steelgate politics seems like such a boggle to me. It's based on Piltover and Zaun from Arcane, I know that, but the system just seems a bit weird to me? I can't explain it.
One last thing:
I need to know more about Leandra and the classmate that is obviously so prejudiced against Intacians. PLEASE. DESMOND YOU NEED TO BRING HER BACK. I BEG. I'M ON MY KNEES.

Once, in a dry season, I wrote in large letters across two pages of a notebook that innocence ends when one is stripped of the delusion that one likes oneself. Although now, some years later, I marvel that a mind on the outs with itself should have nonetheless made painstaking record of its every tremor, I recall with embarrassing clarity the flavor of those particular ashes. It was a matter of misplaced self-respect.
I had not been elected to Phi Beta Kappa. This failure could scarcely have been more predictable or less ambiguous (I simply did not have the grades), but I was unnerved by it; I had somehow thought myself a kind of academic Raskolnikov, curiously exempt from the cause-effect relationships that hampered others. Although the situation must have had even then the approximate tragic stature of Scott Fitzgerald's failure to become president of the Princeton Triangle Club, the day that I did not make Phi Beta Kappa nevertheless marked the end of something, and innocence may well be the word for it. I lost the conviction that lights would always turn green for me, the pleasant certainty that those rather passive virtues which had won me approval as a child automatically guaranteed me not only Phi Beta Kappa keys but happiness, honour, and the love of a good man (preferably a cross between Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca and one of the Murchisons in a proxy fight); lost a certain touching faith in the totem power of good manners, clean hair, and proven competence on the Stanford-Binet scale. To such doubtful amulets had my self-respect been pinned, and I faced myself that day with the nonplussed wonder of someone who has come across a vampire and found no garlands of garlic at hand.
Although to be driven back upon oneself is an uneasy affair at best, rather like trying to cross a border with borrowed credentials, it seems to me now the one condition necessary to the beginnings of real self-respect. Most of our platitudes notwithstanding, self-deception remains the most difficult deception. The charms that work on others count for nothing in that devastatingly well-lit back alley where one keeps assignations with oneself: no winning smiles will do here, no prettily drawn lists of good intentions. With the desperate agility of a crooked faro dealer who spots Bat Masterson about to cut himself into the game, one shuffles flashily but in vain through one's marked cards—the kindness done for the wrong reason, the apparent triumph which had involved no real effort, the seemingly heroic act into which one had been shamed. The dismal fact is that self-respect has nothing to do with the approval of others—who are, after all, deceived easily enough; has nothing to do with reputation—which, as Rhett Butler told Scarlett O'Hara, is something that people with courage can do without.
To do without self-respect, on the other hand, is to be an unwilling audience of one to an interminable home movie that documents one's failings, both real and imagined, with fresh footage spliced in for each screening. There’s the glass you broke in anger, there's the hurt on X's face; watch now, this next scene, the night Y came back from Houston, see how you muff this one. To live without self-respect is to lie awake some night, beyond the reach of warm milk, phenobarbital, and the sleeping hand on the coverlet, counting up the sins of commission and omission, the trusts betrayed, the promises subtly broken, the gifts irrevocably wasted through sloth or cowardice or carelessness. However long we postpone it, we eventually lie down alone in that notoriously un- comfortable bed, the one we make ourselves. Whether or not we sleep in it depends, of course, on whether or not we respect ourselves.
To protest that some fairly improbable people, some people who could not possibly respect themselves, seem to sleep easily enough is to miss the point entirely, as surely as those people miss it who think that self-respect has necessarily to do with not having safety pins in one's underwear. There is a common superstition that "self-respect" is a kind of charm against snakes, something that keeps those who have it locked in some unblighted Eden, out of strange beds, ambivalent conversations, and trouble in general. It does not at all. It has nothing to do with the face of things, but concerns instead a separate peace, a private reconciliation. Although the careless, suicidal Julian English in Appointment in Samarra and the careless, incurably dishonest Jordan Baker in The Great Gatsby seem equally improbable candidates for self-respect, Jordan Baker had it, Julian English did not. With that genius for accommodation more often seen in women than in men, Jordan took her own measure, made her own peace, avoided threats to that peace: "I hate careless people," she told Nick Carraway. "It takes two to make an accident."
Like Jordan Baker, people with self-respect have the courage of their mistakes. They know the price of things. If they choose to commit adultery, they do not then go running, in an access of bad conscience, to receive absolution from the wronged parties; nor do they complain unduly of the unfairness, the undeserved embarrassment, of being named corespondent. If they choose to forego their work—say it is screenwriting—in favor of sitting around the Algonquin bar, they do not then wonder bitterly why the Hacketts, and not they, did Anne Frank.
In brief, people with self-respect exhibit a certain toughness, a kind of moral nerve; they display what was once called character, a quality which, although approved in the abstract, sometimes loses ground to other, more instantly negotiable virtues. The measure of its slipping prestige is that one tends to think of it only in connection with homely children and with United States senators who have been defeated, preferably in the primary, for re-election. Nonetheless, character—the willingness to accept responsibility for one's own life—is the source from which self-respect springs.
Self-respect is something that our grandparents, whether or not they had it, knew all about. They had instilled in them, young, a certain discipline, the sense that one lives by doing things one does not particularly want to do, by putting fears and doubts to one side, by weighing immediate comforts against the possibility of larger, even intangible, comforts. It seemed to the nineteenth century admirable, but not remarkable, that Chinese Gordon put on a clean white suit and held Khartoum against the Mahdi; it did not seem unjust that the way to free land in California involved death and difficulty and dirt. In a diary kept during the winter of 1846, an emigrating twelve-year-old named Narcissa Cornwall noted coolly: "Father was busy reading and did not notice that the house was being filled with strange Indians until Mother spoke about it." Even lacking any clue as to what Mother said, one can scarcely fail to be impressed by the entire incident: the father reading, the Indians filing in, the mother choosing the words that would not alarm, the child duly recording the event and noting further that those particular Indians were not, "fortunately for us," hostile. Indians were simply part of the donnée.
In one guise or another, Indians always are. Again, it is a question of recognizing that anything worth having has its price. People who respect themselves are willing to accept the risk that the Indians will be hostile, that the venture will go bankrupt, that the liaison may not turn out to be one in which every day is a holiday because you’re married to me. They are willing to invest something of themselves; they may not play at all, but when they do play, they know the odds.
That kind of self-respect is a discipline, a habit of mind that can never be faked but can be developed, trained, coaxed forth. It was once suggested to me that, as an antidote to crying, I put my head in a paper bag. As it happens, there is a sound physiological reason, something to do with oxygen, for doing exactly that, but the psychological effect alone is incalculable: it is difficult in the extreme to continue fancying oneself Cathy in Wuthering Heights with one's head in a Food Fair bag. There is a similar case for all the small disciplines, unimportant in themselves; imagine maintaining any kind of swoon, commiserative or carnal, in a cold shower.
But those small disciplines are valuable only insofar as they represent larger ones. To say that Waterloo was won on the playing fields of Eton is not to say that Napoleon might have been saved by a crash program in cricket; to give formal dinners in the rain forest would be pointless did not the candlelight flickering on the liana call forth deeper, stronger disciplines, values instilled long before. It is a kind of ritual, helping us to remember who and what we are. In order to remember it, one must have known it.
To have that sense of one's intrinsic worth which, for better or for worse, constitutes self-respect, is potentially to have everything: the ability to discriminate, to love and to remain indifferent. To lack it is to be locked within oneself, paradoxically incapable of either love or indifference. If we do not respect ourselves, we are on the one hand forced to despise those who have so few resources as to consort with us, so little perception as to remain blind to our fatal weaknesses. On the other, we are peculiarly in thrall to everyone we see, curiously determined to live out—since our self-image is untenable—their false notions of us. We flatter ourselves by thinking this compulsion to please others an attractive trait: a gift for imaginative empathy, evidence of our willingness to give. Of course we will play Francesca to Paolo, Brett Ashley to Jake, Helen Keller to anyone's Annie Sullivan: no expectation is too misplaced, no rôle too ludicrous. At the mercy of those we can not but hold in contempt, we play rôles doomed to failure before they are begun, each defeat generating fresh despair at the necessity of divining and meeting the next demand made upon us.
It is the phenomenon sometimes called alienation from self. In its advanced stages, we no longer answer the telephone, because someone might want something; that we could say no without drowning in self-reproach is an idea alien to this game. Every encounter demands too much, tears the nerves, drains the will, and the spectre of something as small as an unanswered letter arouses such disproportionate guilt that one's sanity becomes an object of speculation among one's acquaintances. To assign unanswered letters their proper weight, to free us from the expectations of others, to give us back to ourselves—there lies the great, the singular power of self-respect. Without it, one eventually discovers the final turn of the screw: one runs away to find oneself, and finds no one at home.

Scars of Sailor Moon 90's anime: What if
To be clear, it’s been a while since I’ve seen it and that was when they were dubbed and cut for English speaking kids’ daytime TV so shit might be missing, because the episode wasn’t aired, or remembered wrong because it wasn’t ‘appropriate’ for kids and thus cut in a way to make it 'appropriate'.
Now, is there anyone else who wonders what physical scars the Senshi, Tux and episodic victims might have if magical healing weren't involved? Does anyone else wonder if there might be various civilian group gatherings to show support not only for the Senshi themselves but for those who got attacked and subsequently saved? How they know it's all legit due to the similar scars, because some of them were attacked in a different way for the same thing (the Daimons vs Eudial's gun in S; The Amazon Trio vs The Amazoness Quartet in SS; Regular vs True Starseeds in Stars) and it shows on the people who were brave enough to show off what the baddie of the season had left behind on their bodies. Do the Heroes know about them or not? How would their various scars differ from all the regular victims due to various factors?
Read more to find out my ideas on how they'd look.
For 1st S: the girls and M have port-wine stains from the SilMil of their death wounds. Don't think Jed could've left scars with how he gathered energy but Neph could've left marks on his victims since they personally handled his cursed items. Those transformed by Zoi and Kun might have trace characteristics of their monster forms; and the Black Homing Crystal or their personal Nijizuishou could be tattooed on their body, or a tattoo or scarred outline (bald-spot/different colored fur for Rhett Butler (the cat)) of their 'Great Demon' that is believed they were just born with like port-wine stains because of the 'reset' in the finale, to differentiate between Zoi's and Kun's victims.
In R 1st half, girls and M have extra port-wine stains that look like actual scars but realize they're what they died to, wounds she died with (black where the rose vines restrained her and lichtenburg figures all over and outlining a hand on her throat) in Usa's case, when they remember. And leafed vine patterns on those grabbed by Cardians but Usa's and Mamo's are colored blue and pink respectively since they were drained personally by the reluctant Makai Tree. In R 2nd half, well they were mostly trying to take over locations more than gather energy so... maybe... Black Crystallized skin for those who were actually touched? Or nothing other than mental scars, due to the nature of their origin, and thus a simple outline of the Black Moon on the back of their necks? Dunno. ChibiUsa, at least, could have stretch marks due to being unnaturally aged by Wiseman.
In S, it's the shape of the Pure Heart Crystal literally over their heart where it came out, not the center of the chest as is seen in the anime. So, in the event one of the victims had that rare condition where their heart/organs are reversed that's where it can be seen. And if it came out the back, like what happened with Ami, then that's where it is. One can tell how one 'lost' their Pure Heart, whether it was a Daimon or the Gun, due to the size of the scar. If Daimon then it's the size of a Toonie coin but from the Gun it's the size of a closed fist. Minako's looks doubled because she handled her own Pure Heart and did so manically before collapsing. Haruka and Michiru could either have outlines of their Treasures surrounding their Pure Hearts or it's a detailed scar of their Treasures, no Pure Heart to be seen. Chibi's has a shadowy hand-print surrounding hers due to Mistress9 personally taking it while the scar itself looks gold due to Mamo acting as her life support while it was gone. Usa's looks prismatic, like it's literally embedded in her chest when it's not, due to her Pure Heart being exposed thrice, when the extraction was interrupted, when it succeeded and when she forced it out to save Hotaru.
In SS, the Dream Mirror scar is two closed hand spans across in width and fingertip to heel in height. It's the border of the Mirror and the extra scars that go with them that one can tell whether one was attacked during the Trio's time or the Quartet's. Stylized borders and 'shackles' around the wrists and ankles (blue waves for Fish, red flames for Tiger, gray tornadoes for Hawk) denote which of the Trio attacked while solid colored borders and the colored Stone (yellow for Cere, blue for Palla, green for Jun, red for Ves) on the opposite side of the Mirror scar denote which of the Quartet. Usa's is different in that black Aces make up her Mirror's border and 'shackles' due to Mr. Magic Pierrot being the one to 'attack' her. Not to mention the black lines betraying how it had been shattered and the unknown, probably never to be discovered, damage to her brain/memories/personality due to said shattering, what with dreams being products of our brains and all. Because I'm of the opinion that if one's heart can stop due to your Pure Heart being taken then one can become brain dead if your Dream Mirror is shattered. Why else would Fish be so devastated, because dreams can change and evolve or disappear when or if they are fulfilled, when her Mirror is destroyed? Chibi's Mirror is different in that her border is black but the surface itself is a shiny gold instead of everyone else's silver while the 'stone' looks like Zirconia's winged eye. Mamo's eye, the one Nehelania's piece of Mirror pierced, could be bordered by a gold ring if not making him hetero-chromatic in turning the blue itself gold. Usa could have scars on her legs, soles of her feet, due to traveling through/over vines on her way to rescue her family.
As for Stars, those who didn't have True Starseeds could have a 'tattoo' of that flower that contains said Starseeds at the border of their hairline on their forehead. Only the part that hovered there, not the full thing. And those who did have True Starseeds, that hunk of hair that the flower hovered over has taken on the color of said Starseed and is resistant to dyes or regrowing back the original hair color. Some of the women, and poor Mamo, has to weather the comments on their weird choice of color fad since... well, gold on raven, navy blue on blonde, green on brunette and red on ravenette seems... weird, right? Color your whole head, or at least in a Peek-a-boo style, if you're gonna be dying it such a different color at all, jeez! At least for the others they're close, or complimentary, to their original color, if still weird it's only that space of hair that's been colored a bit differently.

BIOGRAPHY
the second son, the spare. perhaps other children would have resented this fact, but august saw its advantages early on. he was spoiled from day one; his mother always said that his brother was germany's son, but he was hers. most princes want for nothing, but it went past that with august. anything he wanted he had, any problem he caused was solved, there was never a scandal large enough to tarnish his reputation if his mother had anything to do with it and scandals he did cause.. his affinity for the hedonistic side of life started in his teen years; where there was gambling, overflowing cups, and beautiful people to take to bed - august was never far behind. (literally been in his whore era for 40 years)
despite being pampered, he still had the same expectations when it came to his education and service to his country. he excelled in his lessons and enlisted in the german army once he was of age. but he didn't find his true talent until he was 20 years old august was fine as a soldier, but showed his intelligence when it came to the tactical aspects of war and it didn't take long for him to establish himself as a successful military commander with a list of victories under his belt
after nearly 20 years of military service, august retired and he immersed himself once again into a life of pleasure unfortunately, pleasure costs money, and the german royal family seems to be running low. he has found two solutions to this problem; a scheme with his nephew to scam and steal from nobles, and a marriage to rose rihannon - a noble woman with a very rich father
wanted plots
lovers! past, present, and future. i dont imagine any of his affairs would have ended on bad terms, because as a mommas boy™  he has a high respect for women. even being a big fat whore, he's always been up front about his intentions and has never been the type to make crude comments - even in the company of other men, no matter the setting
enemies! i feel like you either love him or hate him.. but if you hate him, you really hate him. as it says above his ill and short tempered so this could be anything from an argument over a game of cards or maybe he slept with your wife idk
more to come im sure idk

'Not many movies can go on and on and keep viewers' interest, and not many people have the patience or the time to sit through lengthy films. Long run-times can be a deterrent, especially for those with short attention spans. Therefore, it takes exceptionally well-crafted films to keep viewers invested while the overstretched narratives unfold. However, not every movie can be concluded under an hour and 30 minutes; certain narratives are inherently complex and require more time for thorough exploration.
Thus, Oppenheimer's extended runtime is quite understandable. For films like Oppenheimer (which is still one of the hottest films of 2023), it was necessary to stretch the narrative to delve deep into J. Robert Oppenheimer’s life and the curiosity to know more about the role he played in developing the atomic bomb was enough to keep viewers glued to their seats, enhanced by other compelling elements of the film.
Although three hours is such a short time to cram up someone’s entire life, Christopher Nolan excelled in accomplishing this in Oppenheimer. However, even before Oppenheimer, epic films like The Godfather 2, Seven Samurai, Nixon, and The Irishman had achieved this feat, earning the prestigious title “Masterpiece”. These lengthy films prove that length does not matter as long as there is quality.
15. The Irishman (2019)
The Irishman presents a haunting and introspective look at the underworld of organized crime, weaving a tale of friendship and loyalty between men who live on the wrong side of the law through the eyes of Frank Sheeran, a former truck driver turned hit man. Lasting over three hours and through flashbacks, an older Frank narrates his life as a young truck driver and how he became acquainted with Russell Bufalino (Joe Pesci), rising to the ranks of a top hit man.
As a mafia film intricately woven and richly textured, drawing inspiration from Charles Brandt's non-fiction book I Heard You Paint Houses, The Irishman stands as one of the paramount collaborations between Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro. With acclaimed actors like Pesci and Al Pacino adding to its brilliance, many viewers find themselves engrossed in its 3.5 hours run-time without any complaints.
14. Seven Samurai (1954)
Akira Kurosawa’s masterpiece is one of those timeless, long movies viewers can see and revisit repeatedly without getting tired of its intriguing plot line. With its richly developed characters, along with the narrative's emotional depth and stunning action sequences, Seven Samurai is regarded as one of the most influential and celebrated films in cinema history. Set in chaotic 16th-Century Japan, the film tells the story of a group of seven Ronin (masterless samurai) who are hired by a small farming village to protect them from marauding bandits.
Throughout its 207 minutes, the film delves into the character development of these seven samurai and the villagers, chronicling their first encounter, rigorous training and bonding as they prepare for the ultimate fight for survival. While this action film is undoubtedly brilliant, what really stands out is its deeply engaging characters, each given enough room to shine as the film progresses slowly and reaches its dramatic culmination.
13. Gone With the Wind (1940)
Gone With the Wind is proof that Old is Gold. This emotionally charged movie is one of the oldest American epic romances that never feels boring or outdated. Directed by Victor Fleming and based on Margaret Mitchell's 1936 novel of the same name, it follows the tumultuous relationship between Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler.
The film is set in the pre-Civil War era in the southern state of Georgia and follows as this Southern Belle is exposed to a life of hardship during the war but remains determined to survive at all costs. The three hours run-time is no issue for viewers captivated by its well-crafted plot, irresistible romance, unforgettable lines and moments that keep them thoroughly engaged. Despite the controversies surrounding this epic film, it still matters in this recent time for movie lovers.
12. Schindler’s List (1993)
This powerful and critically acclaimed historical drama is directed by Steven Spielberg and focuses on the efforts of a German businessman in saving innocent lives during one of the darkest chapters in human history. Schindler's List is the story of Oak Schindler, who saved millions of Jews during the Holocaust. The film's narrative unfolds in a series of powerful and poignant scenes, depicting the daily struggles, fears, and acts of heroism of the Jewish workers under Schindler's protection.
With such weighty narrative, the film’s three-hour-plus runtime is quite understandable. However, depending on viewers' perspective, the lengthy duration of this film may be an advantage or disadvantage. But for those who enjoy historical films that delve deeply into their subject and meticulously explore the complexities of its historical backdrop, the runtime of Schindler’s List proves to be an added advantage.
11. Magnolia (1999)
Magnolia is considered one of the best and most touching Paul Thomas Anderson’s films. It is a complex and interwoven drama known for its non-linear storylines and multiple characters carried by its ensemble cast who delivered outstanding performances. The film follows the lives of multiple characters seemingly unconnected to each other, each struggling with their own demons and issues. But as the plot unfolds, their stories intersect and overlap over the course of one eventful day.
Since this is a heartfelt drama that deals with trauma and how individuals search for happiness, it may be such a weighty subject to watch for over three hours. Yet, for those with the patience to sit through it, it transforms into a profoundly moving and touching experience. The film's powerful emotional impact can make time fly, rendering it the fastest three-hour movie for its captivated audience.
10. The Godfather Part II (1979)
The Godfather Part II is one of the greatest films in the history of cinema, solidifying Francis Ford Coppola’s position as one of the best directors the world has seen. Garnering widespread critical acclaim and earning six Academy Awards, the film’s brilliance and quality remains unmatched. Serving as both a prequel and a sequel to the original masterpiece, The Godfather, it unfolds through dual timelines; one delves into the reign of Michael Corleone as the new Don of the Corleone crime family and the other depicting the early life of his father, Vito Corleone.
Its complex storyline is one that certainly has many glued to their screens, not knowing when the three-hour run-time runs out. The Godfather Part II is a treasure trove of memorable scenes and quotable lines delivered by Michael Corleone and these iconic moments have become ingrained in popular culture.
9. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Serving as third and final installment of the epic fantasy film trilogy directed by Peter Jackson, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King presents the final battle between good and evil forces over the future of Middle-earth. Frodo, Sam, Aragon, Gandalf and a host of other heroes join forces to destroy the one ring and confront Sauron’s evil army. Just like The Godfather was a success upon its release, this film also garnered critical acclaim and achieved immense box-office success.
Its remarkable achievement is evident through its impressive haul of 11 Academy Awards, solidifying its position as one of the greatest cinematic achievements in the fantasy genre. The Return of the King stays true to the source material, J.R.R. Tolkien's novel, and the extended runtime makes this possible. It allows for the inclusion of key moments and plot lines from the book, satisfying both fans of the books and newcomers to the franchise.
8. The Hateful Eight (2015)
With Quentin Tarantino’s signature style, original storyline, the sharp dialogue, dark humor, complex plots and intricate character dynamic, many viewers would watch The Hateful Eight for hours without their patience wearing thin. Set in post-Civil War Wyoming, it follows a group of strangers who seek refuge in a stagecoach stopover during a blizzard. As the plot unfolds, the identities of these shady characters are revealed as well as their motives, giving rise to violence and paranoia on the train.
While this film’s original cut was fine as it was, the miniseries version available on Netflix offers an extended look at other interesting moments and offers more insight to the characters too.For those who find it difficult to watch the entire three-hour film in one sitting, the miniseries provides a convenient alternative, presenting each episode with a short 50-minute duration.
7. The Inland Empire (2006)
The Inland Empire is an enigmatic and challenging drama film written and directed by David Lynch. It defies traditional linear narrative structure and the plot is open to several interpretations as it immerses viewers in a dream-like, surreal experience. Centered around the actress Niki, the story takes a disconcerting turn when she adopts the persona of a character in a film, blurring the boundaries between reality and a nightmarish world.
The audience, too, finds themselves entangled in this weird and perplexing journey. Since the film is full of disturbing and powerful imagery, viewers may find it impenetrable even after almost one hour into the narrative. This bizarre and fantastic film is certainly not going to appeal to everyone. However, for avid fans of David Lynch, particularly those who appreciate equally surreal film Eraserhead, this may be an extremely rewarding experience.
6. Titanic (1997)
This iconic film will, of course, make the list of long movies that are worth watching. Set against the backdrop of the real-life sinking of the RMS Titanic, Titanic follows the fictional characters of Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet) as they embark on a fateful and ill-fated romance aboard the luxurious ship.
Its storyline based on a historical event, its touching and original musical score, impactful themes, powerful performances of DiCaprio’s and Winslet’s performance, and masterful direction by James Cameron all contribute to the film's reputation as a powerful and unforgettable cinematic experience. The gripping and tragic love story in this 1997 blockbuster has captured the hearts of viewers worldwide. Even today, it remains an emotionally resonant tale and one of the saddest love stories ever told.
5. Nixon (1995)
Nixon provides a compelling and refreshingly look into the life of one of America's most enigmatic and controversial presidents, including his contentious policies, paranoia, and abuses of power. Throughout the film, Nixon's complex personality and inner demons are explored, including his insecurities, thirst for power, ruthlessness and vulnerabilities.
This biographical drama directed by Oliver Stone does not fail to depict the Watergate Scandal and other crucial events of that political era. Given Nixon’s polarizing public perception, many anticipated an annoying or dull narrative about him on screen. However, Stone deftly crafts a tragic story that somehow pulls viewers into this complex character’s mind, allowing them to understand his bitterness and paranoia during the three-hour runtime. Anthony Hopkins’ exceptional portrayal as President also played a huge role in elevating the film to the status of a true masterpiece.
4. Ben-Hur (1959)
Directed by William Wyler, the timeless epic religious film, Ben-Hur, is deservedly one of the most honored films in history, winning 11 Academy Awards out of 12 nominations. It is based on the 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ by Lew Wallace. Set in ancient Rome during the time of Jesus Christ, this emotionally charged film follows the journey of Judah Ben-Hur, a Jewish prince who seeks vengeance against his childhood friend who betrayed him and condemned him to slavery.
Despite its lengthy runtime, Ben-Hur is a tale that mesmerizes and entertains its viewers, scene after scene, as they follow Ben-Hur’s journey. Amidst its glory and beauty, it also presents a poignant human story of struggle which resonates deeply with the hearts of its viewers and keeps them glued to their seats, eager to witness the hero’s final victory. From its fine acting, touching storytelling, cinematography and iconic scenes, Ben-Hur is unquestionably an all-round giant epic film.
3. The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
The Wolf of Wall Street is a compelling and satirical take on the greed and darker side of the financial industry during the 1990s. It is directed by Martin Scorsese and based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, a stockbroker who engaged in rampant corruption and financial fraud during the 1990s. Throughout its three hours, it documents the rise and fall of Jordan Belfort, brilliantly played by DiCaprio. DiCaprio's outstanding performance garnered critical acclaim, adding to the film's allure.
Spanning three hours, the movie remains engaging and enthralling, making time seem inconsequential as it documents the captivating journey of Jordan Belfort. In this dark comedy, Scorsese holds up a mirror to the society, critiquing the insatiable desire for wealth and riches. The film strikes a perfect balance between memorable scenes, drama and comedic moments, making it entertaining and easy to watch, regardless of its length.
2. Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
Directed by David Lean, Lawrence of Arabia is based on the life of T.E. Lawrence, a British officer and adventurer who played a significant role during World War I in the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire. Lean’s brilliant direction and pacing manages to keep viewers on the edge of their seats as this film presents a perplexing character study to one of the most enigmatic historical figures.
While it may not be completely historically accurate, Lean’s rendition accomplishes what many other tales on this inspirational warlord fail to do. It offers an inner sight into the man behind the deeds, dispelling the violent disarray other stories have often portrayed. A long movie that is truly worth watching over and over again, and Peter O'Toole's remarkable portrayal of Lawrence is nothing short of exceptional.
1. The Right Stuff (1983)
Following key characters Chuck Yeager, Gus Grissom, John Glenn and Alan Shepard, The Right Stuff explores the challenges faced by the first men in Space for America. The story follows as these patriots undergo rigorous physical and psychological testing to determine if they have what it takes to become astronauts during a time America space program was struggling to meet up with Russian’s own.
For those who relish films based on true legends or even the beginnings of Space, this film’s three-hour-long runtime would not be a detractor to enjoying the film. Alongside Scorsese’s Raging Bull, it is recognized as one of the greatest films of the 80s and also earned four Academy Awards. Directed by Philip Kaufman and based on Tom Wolfe’s 1963 novel, Tale of the Mercury Astronauts, The Right Stuff is an exciting and complex teeming with memorable scenes and brilliant performances from its wonderful actors.'

5 characters from your favorite books whose real ages are hard to guess
As we enthusiastically leaf through another book, we vividly imagine the appearance and character of all the heroes of the story. But sometimes film adaptations of literary works turn out to be so memorable that we involuntarily replace the existing image with what was shown to us on the screen. And we unwittingly add extra years to the character or, on the contrary, make him younger.
Severus Snape from "Harry Potter"
Tumblr media
Snape once attended Hogwarts with Harry's parents, so when the young wizard first appears at school, the Potions professor is relatively young - only 31 years old. The filmmakers invited Alan Rickman, who was 54 years old at the time of filming, to play the role of this controversial character. Therefore, on screen Severus looks more experienced and sophisticated than he really was.
Ellie from "The Notebook"
Tumblr media
In the novel by Nicholas Sparks, at the beginning of the story, the main character, Ellie, is 15 years old. The creators of the film adaptation decided to add a couple of years to her so that the girl would be a little more mature. So they cast Rachel McAdams, who was 24 at the time. Considering that the main events unfold 7 years after the heroes met, such a decision is completely justified.
Elinor Dashwood from "Sense and Sensibility"
Tumblr media
In Jane Austen's novel Sense and Sensibility, Elinor's older sister was 19 years old. But in almost all film adaptations the girl was played by older actresses. For example, Emma Thompson was 36 years old at the time filming began. Thanks to this, the creators were able to achieve a more authentic image of the reserved and reasonable Elinor, which the young actress would hardly have been able to create.
Rubeus Hagrid from "Harry Potter"
Tumblr media
Hargrid in the film version looks quite young for his age. According to JK Rowling, he was born in 1928, which means that by the time he met Harry he was already 62 years old. Actor Robbie Coltrane, who played this role, was only 50 years old. Perhaps the filmmakers decided that Rubeus aged a little differently than ordinary people, since he was half giant.
Ashley Wilkes from "Gone with the Wind"
Tumblr media
At the beginning of the novel, young Scarlett invites her neighbor's son Ashley, with whom she is hopelessly in love, to run away from home and tie the knot. At that time the young man was 21 years old. However, in the film he seems much older, which is not surprising - the actor Leslie Howard, who played this role, was 45 years old. Therefore, the on-screen relationship between Scarlett and Ashley looks ambiguous - a wise man carefully refuses the eccentric girl. The audience gets the feeling that Wilkes was the same age as Rhett Butler, although in fact the difference in the characters' ages was more than 10 years (Rhett was 33 years old).
By the way, the appearance of literary heroes also sometimes changes when transferred to the screen. Some differences are not noticed by the attentive public, while others are simply noticeable.

About that last post (the 'why men no longer try harder after we criminalized sexual advances'). Tbh this makes me sad that apparently majority of society DOES play this game because I legit, honestly don't want relationship any time soon, I don't play hard to get :s So I feel like feminists that antagonized men "trying harder" kept women like me in mind (or were like me themselves). Those who LEGIT want to be left alone, whatever is the reason. It could be somethig impossible to change with persuasion too, like being asexual/lesbian but not trusting this man enough to say, or having life-changing bad experience. In retrospective I feel like what happened was emotional reaction of protecting the minority (and projecting *individual* experiences on humanity in general cough cough) at the cost of messing up majority. Like majority liked that "game" but now men are scared and women who don't know of feminist stuff feel unwanted and unattractive. And say that 'real' men went extinct xD I notice the 'saviors' make this same mistake not even first time - start with good intentions and descent into vigilantes. And it is ALWAYS trade of 'minority for majority' even though majority MAKES the society truly function. I wonder what could have gone differently in this situation if at all? Like... how *to* cover people who do NOT play hard to get? Like, was there a way to go less destructive? Or it is one of those things you just let people solve themselves via properly communicating?
The pickup artists call it the "shit test": women being evolutionarily hardwired to want to make potential mates jump through hoops to see how committed they are to sticking around, so that when they choose to go make the beast with two backs and a baby pops out, they're hopefully less likely to be either stuck raising it alone or eaten by a tiger while 8 months pregnant and unable to run away very fast.
So on that level it's understandable. The problem is, with the arrival of feminism and women's ever-increasing political influence the past hundred years (along with other things, such as the introduction of cinema and TV and celebrity culture and social media as something to continually compare one's own life to), the hoops that women are putting up for the men to jump through have been getting more and more dangerous and impossible to achieve.
Women in their tens of millions hungrily guzzle up the fantasy of a Rhett Butler or a Christian Grey, all while at the same time marching and voting for harsher and harsher penalties for any man who actually behaves like the man of their dreams: It's the ultimate shit test, in which any man who attempts to live up to the female fantasy will in all likelihood have his life utterly destroyed on the whims of the same women who request it.
An ever-increasing number of men have decided that price is just too insanely high to risk everything on - especially since the quality of what women are offering in return has been continually worsening - and are just dropping out and walking away, choosing the quiet life of VR goggles and endless porn.
So, through this mix of politics and shit tests (and hypergamy), we've essentially reached the point in which women as a group, for the first time ever, have collectively priced themselves out of the sexual marketplace.
